>Sorry about the delay. Internet issues. Previous thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/25875846/

>Once, there was a boy who would be king, and his wolf. The boy broke a promise to marry, but went to a wedding nonetheless. The wolf sensed treachery, but the boy ignored it, he had eaten salt and bread. He had thought none would break the guest right. But they did. Boy and wolf died, the wolf's head stitched to the boy's corpse. But, from that, a king lived.

>Current dice pool 5 monstrous, 3 noble.

You could sleep. Not that you needed it, but the option was there. You aren't sleeping though, and neither are the men watching you. Beric shook your hand- he would not betray you, but you worry him. You hear their whispers even so far from the main group. Monster. Cursed. Abomination. At least they gave you some rabbit to eat. During consumption, you found to your irritation that whoever stitched your head on to your bed did not match the neckholes properly. You can still feel the itch of some meat caught between head and body. You're still hungry.

You sit at the edge of the firelight, in the shadows, on a boulder, surveying the band before you. Still loyal to Beric. Very quiet, experienced, you see careful eyes cast to the edge, smooth changes of watch, bows strung and unstrung with practice. But too few, too ill equipped, too hungry, and not meant to stand and hold a line. Frustration. Memories of battles won. Undefeated, in battle. But a loser in war.

Someone approaches. A smell of wine, fire, and priestly garb. The one called Thoros. The one that spoke merciful words for you. Something about him causes distrust. He approaches, intoxicated. Some liquid courage to approach the King in the North at night.

"Robb!" The robed man comes up to you, swaying a bit on the rough ground, "Just the man I was looking for," A poor joke, "I was wondering, if you had some time to talk, er, or write I suppose?"

>>
>>25916853
I'll be posting here in a moment, unfortunately I've got my own quest to run, but I like your stuff, it's good stuff. I'll see what I can do to keep up Robb's winning streak...

We can't ever lose a battle.
>>
>>25916966
Sit. You wave to the rock next to you magnanimously. Some part of you is irritable at this, like anything else that delays you from pursuit of crown and vengeance. Freys, Boltons, Lannisters, you repeat it silently.

"Robb?" Oh yes, the priest, "I reasoned that, that, that somebody should come, and treat you like a person instead of letting you glower and stew on a rock," Thoros gives a tight lipped grin at that. You emit a low growl, unwilling to be mocked, which causes Thoros to raise a hand in apology, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Suppose with all that happened you'd be in no mood for jokes."

Some laughter. Both you and Thoros glance to Beric, talking to a man. Seems to be Harwin.

"He's a good man, Beric," Thoros pauses, looks down, "He won't give up the band to you," Thoros looks over, worry plain on his face. He's afraid, but honesty has caused him to speak here, "He hopes to cooperate with you, but I don't imagine that that would satisfy you. We had your sister Arya here, for a time," Thoros takes another drink from his wineskin, looking carefully at your face. You aren't baring your teeth, but you do feel a well of anger rising within you, "She escaped though. We had intended to ransom her. If we had known-"
"Where?" You growl out, unable to keep the question from your mind.
"With the Hound, Sandor Clegane perhaps, he had her first, or perhaps she managed to run off somewhere else in the Trident."

You're not sure whether or not to care. It's not related to Freys, Lannisters, or Boltons. And she was a girl of the Stark line, couldn't pass on the name- no, no, no, she was part of the pack, that was all that mattered-
>>
"I don't know what raised you," Thoros is speaking again, a blessed interruption, "But I wager that your purpose is to seek bloody vengeance. Which is your right- what was done to you and yours calls for nothing less, and you have the means," Thoros stands then, "But please, don't drag us in to it. We're not your bannermen, Stark," Thoros looks sympathetic, even as his voice sharpens, "Just sympathetic. We'll go and see what we can recover from the river for you, and perhaps reunite you with your sworn men, but I beg of you, to leave us out of whatever terrible plans you have. "

The red robed priest stands, wiping the dust from his back, and then gives you a nod, "No disrespect, my lord. Just a request."

There are a great deal of Beric's men here. To be sure, you had nothing to fear from ten men, twenty even, but enough, and even your monstrous strength could be overcome. You feel a great and terrible anger at the audacity of this holy man to tell you who and what you were to command- but right now, you were in no place to teach him respect. But perhaps there would be something else you could do. Rest until morning, and the river search, or make a show of strength? Or something else?

Make a show of strength. remember those blue eyes from the man that you had bit... They saw so far off and watched so intently... it enraged you but you can't get them out of your head.

There's something to that.. We should give these men blue eyes, or at the very least show the Red Priest that you will not be undermined...

Hell, it doesn't even need to be a big thing, they just need to harass the men of the siege.

Can we get that map, OP?

Sorry, I'm being impatient.

>>25917537
Here's roughly where you're at right now, downriver of the Twins.

You currently aren't sure how to give men blue eyes. Some part of you however would like to see such things, while another part of you shivers in hate at the thought of them.

>>25917652
Right now, or in the morning with the rest of Beric's men? You don't feel exhaustion at least.
>>
>>25917690
now, wolves are mostly nocturnal creatures(iirc), so its all the better.
>>
>>25917690
Might as well go now, then. One can be so much more productive when one does not require rest.
>>
>>25917803
The Red Priest totters away, back in the range of his fire. Feh. You can settle your score later.

Let the men sleep. You rise from your dusty stone, and stalk off in to the night. You can get to work.

It takes time for your eyes to adjust after staring at the fire, but soon you are surprised at how much you can see with only the moon's illumination. Rough and broken land, you clamber down, walk past the rock and dirt until you're at home again in the grass and trees, back down among the watered lands. You breath in deep, smell small frightened prey, stag spoor, the too rank cooking fires of the men that you're leaving in the distance behind and then, just barely on the wind down by the river, a familiar smell. You perk up. Your sister. A fellow pack mate.

Nymeria, that's the name that floats to your mind in confusion, but what use is there for names when it comes to kin so close? Another tangent, you shake your head, she's down by the river. Pursue! But wait, some part of you hesitates- Nymeria is not alone. The wind is thankfully in your face- though your pathetic body might blunder and have no sense for stealth, at least your scent won't have been picked up yet. And your form is not what it once was. To go quickly might get you an ally, or might frighten your kin. Uncertainty. So frustrating.

This isn't our pack, we leave now alone and look for ours.

But if the vote comes down to staying with the men, I say we challenge Beric for leadership. We're King In The North, we don't take orders from some heathen priest.

Okay, howling it is. Writing.
>>
You creep cautiously forward, smelling your sister on the wind. Your eyes flicker around, you don't believe you're noticed yet. You decide to give her fair warning and let out a howl to her.

Silence, save for the noise of of crickets in the reeds. You growl in frustration. Did she not hear? Then you hear a howl back, uncertain, poorly voiced. It speaks of sorrow, confusion, and fear.

Seems something vexes your sister that isn't you. No immediate danger, but there is concern in that noise. A few other wolves pick up the call, but they're far from you or your sister. Apparently, Nymeria is alone at the moment. At least you've given her warning. Sounds like she's down by the river side.

>>
>>25918324
Move towards her, but slowly, carefully. Give her time to process, we must smell freaky as hell to her, being both Robb and Grey Wind (not to mention dead)
>>
You dash forward, fighting feelings of joy and concern. An ally! Kin! Someone that might understand, or might not. The grass gets long here, you splash among the reeds, among the shallow water and mud forcing through. You smell her as you get near- and smell something foul. Old dead. Something water soaked and fish chewed.

You push through the reeds, and come to a dirty shore where you see your sister wolf standing, whining, above the corpse of your human mother. Nymeria raises her shaggy head, and gives a low bark, and backs away in confusion. Strange. She's not acting right. The direwolf lowers her head, and turns it, looking at you in confusion- but you think you see some recognition in her eyes.

But your mother. Your gaze returns to her. Throat, split open. Wrinkled, awful, bloodless skin. The dead are supposed to look serene. But in her corpse, you see no peace, jerked at an uncomfortable angle, dragged on to the shore by wolf's jaws.

You knew, some part of you deep inside nastily coils, you knew she wouldn't survive.

No. This is not your mother. You feel a hate arise, and start snarling.

Eh, you got a six so I'll give you this- you know that actually Tully funeral rights call for the corpse to be set on a boat set on the river, and then burned. Kind of like a small scale viking funeral.

For a moment, you are disbelieving, and wish nothing more than to tear the corpse apart limb from limb, throwing the remnants in to the river. This debased thing should be removed from the world.

No. That is not what a king should do.

You approach the corpse, and at this, Nymeria finally acts a wolf, crouching and growling at you. You ignore her, and reach carefully under your mother's knees and neck, and lift her from the shore. Nymeria's growls fade, and she whimpers and whines at the sight of it. You walk past. She follows at your heel.

You know what your mother's family would want- you idly reflect on descriptions drilled in by maesters. But that was not practical. A proper funeral could wait until later. For now, the best you could hope for was for her corpse not to be ravaged by crows or wolves.

You walk from the river, Nymeria padding behind, and choose a spot high and dry, underneath a tree split by lightning. As good a spot as any. You set her down, and put your cold, hard hands to the task of tearing up grass and dirt. You are somehow unsurprised when Nymeria joins you. A few curious wolves gather around, but a growl from Nymeria causes them to fall back.

It takes hours, but for now, you don't feel the nagging fury and hungry desire to seek revenge. Finally, considering it deep enough, you carefully set her down in the hole, hands folded, what little hair remained combed in place. You regret that you don't have something to cover her, but the dirt will have to do. Nymeria watches mournfully the whole time, though you can see her focus waning. She is making a clear effort to watch.

By the time you finish, you can see the first hints of daylight on the horizon. Nymeria is barely able to keep her agitation from showing, but she stares at you now. You can go back to Beric's men, you suppose. By the time you get back, they'll be awake to help you hunt along the river.

Perks!

Basically, force multipliers for the King in the North, or abilities.

Currently, you feel you have four choices.

>[ ] A King is Never Unarmed 1 - You get claws on your hands. Fairly simple, killing men by causing them to bleed is easier than bashing them with your fists. Acts as a multiplier for killing on brutality checks.

>[ ] Unnatural Voice - You can speak now, though the voice is disquieting, and naggingly not your own. Still, at least this way you can address your armies.

>[ ] Words Without Wind - You can speak to one person at a time mentally. They know it's you speaking, but aside from the one person hearing your words, no one else can perceive your communications. No compulsion, but you can be heard.

>[ ] Cold Heart 1 - You remove yourself from worries about your family. Permanently. No more worrying about emotional checks regarding matters of your father, mother, brothers, or sisters. Increases worry from normal humans though.

Also, if you can think of other ideas that fit thematically, please speak up as long as they're not ridiculously powerful.

>Sorry guys, internet cut out there, and is still being shitty. Tethering woo. I'm gonna go yell at Charter.

You hold Nymeria's gaze for a moment. No, not just a wolf. The pack around Nymeria circle about you.

You need a court. Loyal bannermen. Where better to start than with kin?

The direwolf shies when you turn to it. There's something else in Nymeria. She's certainly not acting like a proper dire wolf, exactly. Words are not enough. Especially with kin as close as this.

Sister. You stretch out, try to press the word in to your sister's mind. The wolf recoils, in shock, crouches low, but doesn't growl. It seems shocked by the presence in her mind- but not hostile.

Follow.

Nymeria cocks her head. But she relents, nods happily. Brother. You can see Nymeria's wolf like nature return, the traces of hesitation and uncertainty fading away. Nymeria slinks away from you, but apparently something held over. Loyalty. She sniffs tentatively, before bowing her head.

The wolves follow suit. Rather unwolfish, but you aren't arguing. You have the start of an army.

Now, to impress Beric.

Additional perks for the King?
>>
>>25928462
That's a good idea.

Should be rough themes between Bestial, Cold, Nature, and Kingliness, in my humble opinion. Things like improving your strength/speed generic stuff. Cold, maybe get the white walkers ability to project enough cold to break metal. Nature, eh, shape shifting type stuff, some warging themed stuff? And kingliness, I dunno, ability to dominate others?

I'm bad at this.
>>
>>25928485
no no, thats good. Four trees of development.

So, how about this.
Bestial: Perks for the King in the North himself, mainly shifting the body from man to cthulu-esque beast, like rending claws and stronger/larger form, but making you more inhuman and terrifying against men.

Cold: Ice, snow and winter itself bends to your wishes. You can cover the land in snow and conjure terrifying blizzards to turn your enemies to statues of frozen blood. Of course, you become as frail as ice, but I doubt anyone will reach you.

Nature: the trees and the forests bend and listen to your plight, ages past since they last listened to one of the children of the forests, let alone a man who could act as such. Presumably, you'd be able to learn from the land, but the cost would be that you lose true contact with the people you're suppose to rule.

Kingliness You are the !KING! and you are STONK. A beast that walks like a man, for all your terrifying nature, you are more man than beast, and able to rally men to for cause.

So maybe those Anon?
>>
>>25928485
Okay how about a 2D axis grid for the abilities with Noble-Brutal and Warg-Other.

So for example the Words Without Wind perk we picked up would be Noble Warg, A King Is Never Unarmed would be Brutal Warg, raising the dead as servants would be Noble Other, shattering weapons would be Brutal Other.
>>
>>25928485
How's this:

> Shadow and Fire
R'hllor's perks tree. Most of his powers center around duality between light and darkness - you can cloak yourself in shadows, but only after standing surrounded by fire, and you can use fire powers only after you've been in the darkness. Most of his perks allow obviously supernatural feats, but come at the price of your humanity. The other part (passive perks) turns you into a God King, perfect ruler with incredible charisma and persuasive powers, but devoid of humanity.

> Cold of the North
The Other's perk tree. Mostly passive perks, in contrast to R'hllor. Auras of cold and fear, unearthly resistance to metal, being unnoticeable in the fog and snow. Makes you ridiculously strong, fast and agile, but you become an anathema to the living world, and you turn vulnerable to fire, light and obsidian. At higher levels, you get active powers over cold and undead - raising wraiths, throwing around ice storms and such.
>>
>>25928555
>>25928576
Okay these sounds nice but I am little worried we're heading into high magic territory, remember that ASOIAF is very magic light world.
>>
>>25928576
Not to crazy about R'hllor related perks, I think we should stick to Old Gods for shapeshifting and mental abilities and Others for necromancy and cold.
>>
>>25928576
Yeah, but then you'd have to add in another tree for possible worship of the Seven.

Maybe
> The Seven Blessings
The Faith of the Seven's perk tree. It balances the other two trees with both passive and active perks by focusing on which aspect of the Seven you take blessings from. So, the Warrior gives you active fighting benefits, the Father better kingship, the Stranger actual magic etc.

>>25928596
Maybe limit it to passive perks then? So regeneration and strength, but with numerous weaknesses that come from them? So a weakness to dragon glass or fire or whatever.
>>
So how would brutality/nobility dice tie into our perks?
>>
>>25928576
>>25928628

I think that we should only get to choose ONE of the god-magic related trees for the King. Having Rh'llor, the Seven AND the Others empowering the same guy would get kind of super crazy. And I'd like the tree choice to be made by our actions in the world rather than an open vote or roll. What the King does will mold him and bring him to the attention of higher beings.

Also, shouldn't there be an Old Gods tree too?
>>
>>25928596
Most of the powers I did in >>25928576 are examples of what we can do at high levels - I doubt we'll be able to throw ice storms around until Robb devours a dragon or something. The powers should become unlocked after completing milestones - the harder the milestone, the better power unlocked.

>>25928627
I was thinking of using the old D&D alignment axis for this. Just replace Good and Evil with R'hllor and the Other, while the 7 stand as Neutral in the middle. Likewise for the Law / Chaos axis - replace them with Kingly and Bestial, with Man in the middle. But now that I thought about it, that won't work.

>>25928652
Maybe God-specific perks are inside the Kingly / Bestial tree? You know, there's a perk related to R'hllor that's inside the Kingly tree, but to buy it, you must get R'hllor's blessing at the cost of losing the perks from the other Gods?
>>
>>25928627
I don't necessarily think we should have Shapeshifting or Necromancy but stuff like permeating a Bone chilling-cold or just being more damn unerving than we already are is stuff that could be Implemented without breaking the feeling that this is an AU to ASOIAF.

>>25928669
Stuff like what your thinking is stuff that DOES NOT occur in the ASOIAF world it is the stuff of high magic and that shit does not fly in universe.
>>
>>25928669
We can still work in an alignment, we already have the brutality/nobility thing going on, we just need the other axis. >>25928570
>>
>>25928724
Well, the brutality / nobility axis is kinda related to the human / beast duality.
So, an axis that details whether we're something divine (this is actually a clusterfuck for the god perks) or abominable (the Other)?
>>

The problem I see is that there are just way too many gods.
We got ressurected by the Other evidently (if cause our victims' eyes to turn blue is any indication) and by birth and worship we're tied to the old gods. No need to get the Seven or the Lord of Light in there, that just overcomplicates things.
>>
>>25930393
Fair enough. But I don't think we turned that guy's eyes blue - they were already like that.
And if we're going by the Gods, maybe just have the Other and the Old Gods - the rest of them just regard us as an anathema. We can pray to them, but they turned their backs to us.
>>
>>25930408

I agree with this right here.

We're something dead, outside of R'holler's influence.
We're obviously more kin to the Other and the Whitewalkers, or The Old Gods.

And the seven aren't even real gods. They have no influence other than superstition.
The Old Gods have displayed their existence by the children of the forest and the greenseers.
R'holler through the obvious prophets, and command over shadow and flame.
The Other? Fuck, that's just as obvious.

Stick to our guns and what's closest to us. We're going to need to kill that red priest as soon as he turns fire against us, or sees into the fire.. I don't think R'holler's going to tolerate our presence around one of his chosen prophets...
>>
>>25931252
Despite the evidence of the blue eyes from one of our victims before, we don't know for certain that our nature is wholly Other in origin.

There are plenty of stories regarding the gods, both old and new, gravely punishing those who break guest right. It happened in the riverlands, so for all we know we could be the instrument of the Seven.
>>
>>25931528
We'll find out.
If we're Vengeance incarnate, we're probably an instrument of the 7. If we're the Others plaything, we'll soon find wraiths following us.
There's just too little info from which we could make something concrete. At the moment, all the theories are equally plausible.

>>25932050
Yeah, we weren't. We're cold, we have black hands.

It's either The Other, The Old Gods, or a mix of the two..

Wait a second...

The Wolf's head has amber eyes, and we bled when our stitches were cut..

Our head has been touched by the Old... We have worg-like powers...

Our body has been touched by The Great Other.. Cold, dead flesh...

Well, it had said the warm blood on our neck could have been from the guy.. We need to verify that..
>>
>>25921140

You back, OP?
>>
>>25932212
So... One half was raised by the Other, the other by the Old Gods? Kinda unlikely.
Maybe they didn't complete the spell in order to see what happens - no sense in giving us our full powers back if we're going to end up betraying them. As we grow in power, we're going to become more alive, our stitches will heal, we'll be able to swallow properly and so on.
>>
>>25921140
>Will be back hopefully soon.

You could give us a time frame to look at.
>>
>>25932050

No, we weren't.
>>
>>25933012

I don't think that would be unlikely if they're separate influences.

It would be the case that they fight for control.
The Gods of the Green vs. the Cold god of Death.

It would explain why our eyes aren't blue. I'm pretty sure anything touched by the Other get black hands and blue eyes according to their condition. And the power to communicate mind to mind is an obvious Green God power.
>>
>>25933425
>It would explain why our eyes aren't blue.

Working title-Scourge, a roleplaying game of noble savagery for two or more players.

Once upon a time, there was a fair and noble monarch. They ruled with kindness, justice, and honor.

But that soveriegn is dead; brought low by the betrayal of cowards and schemers. They celebrated in their halls; drank your wine, mocked your body, slew your family.

You are not a king anymore. Now, you are THE SCOURGE. Half man, half monster, you exist for a singular purpose, vengeance.

Reclaim what was yours; your home, your crown, your vengeance.
>>
>>25933719
If it's the Other who raised us, we could stitch us back together, but I guess it'd be more inorganic - with ice instead of flesh and bone.
And we'd emit a deathly cold all the time. Then again, maybe we're just beginning our descent into a white walker.

Also, if we're slowly returning to life, I guess we're going to begin feeling our wounds soon enough.
>>
>>25933749
Characters creation is bare bones at the moment, one person compared it to fiasco- Scourges (the vengeful dead) are given five stats, designating two brutal and two noble along with the prerequisite humanity/insanity stat, and a pool of 12 points to assign them to. Strength/Brutality (str), Cunning/Wisdom (int), Grace/Force (dex), charisma/enthrallment. The scourge then associates a person, idea, cause or object with their stat.

Dice associated with brutal designations can only be used in brutal situations, such as interrogation, fighting, general destruction. Noble die can only be used in noble situations, such as negotiations, healing, etc. Successful rolls are 5 or 6, with more difficult situations requiring more successes.
>>
>>25933855
Die can be flipped from opposite alignments, but it has draw backs. The action can be reversed by triggering the characters association with the stat. Flipped die also have a cool down period before they can be used for their original purpose. The scourge can burn a die for an automatic success- burning your die however is harmful, with a character with zero die fading away, becoming a white walker, etc. Die can be replaced by taking from the humanity stat, but must be associated with a new quality, as the scourge literally tears themselves apart to stay longer in a world where they should not exist.

Maybe you'll die. Maybe you'll just fade into obscurity. Either way, I would see a total loss of dice putting your character in a situation where you are completely and utterly useless, unable to affect the world in any significant manner.

Maybe there should be an X-number of flips before burning a die to the whole scheme? It was something that was being discussed.

In the original thread, Rat cook mentioned that there should be only one monster, and that other PCs should take the form of their courtiers. I'm not sure if that'll be true for the final version of the game, but we did come up with stats for human PCs.

They start out with the same stats as a scourge, but are allowed to designate as many of them as being noble or brutal. These remain static, and cannot be flipped from their alignment. They have only six points to distribute, and instead of humanity have a vitality pool to draw from. They may still burn die, but their vitality replenishes over time.

Example: Joseph the guardsman can have Phys 2/Ment 0/Soci 1. He can start off as a particularly rough-at-the-edges sort of fellow, all three of the dice (2 Phys dice and 1 Soci die) as Brutal. He fights hard and dirty if need be, and he tries to intimidate when he has to talk to others.
>>
>>25934003
>>25933981
Hm. Well like I said it's still just ideas to be kicked around. I saved the thread and can link it if anyone wants to read it themselves.

I really like the idea of perks you guys have been coming up with. Maybe we could tie it into origin? Different abilities manifest if you are resurrected by the light of Rhollor, or by the Seven to avenge a wrong, or an unholy combination of science and magic like Ser Robert Strong.
>>
Maybe if we get better and better at certain things, the dice get upgraded?

For example:

Starting Rolls - 3d6

Intermediate Level Rolls - 3d8

High Level Rolls - 3d10

etc. etc.

Maybe there's a perk for swordplay - an untrained roll is 3d4, a trained roll is 3d6, an expert is 3d8 and the master is 3d10.

I'd think that would be DM discretion.

>>25934123

I'm also tellin ya, the Old Gods don't forgive such wrongs and the seven are BS unless you can give me an example from the book where they have a real presence.

R'holler and the Great Other are obvious as hell.
The Old Gods in the Green seers and Bran's story.
What of the seven? Priests of R'holler burn their shrines and suffer NO repercussions.
>>
>>25934440
Well, I guess we could include a milestone mechanic for it.
Say, you are inexperienced with the sword. You can begin to train yourself, and after spending some time and EXP, you unlock the cheapest perk (trained). Each upgrade requires you to do something better with the sword and spend more EXP for it - so to receive the Master, you have to defeat the Brotherhood by yourself.

As for what perks are available - depends on the DM. Jeanne d'Arc can't get training in guns, while Tesla could.
>>
>>25934526
The seven are either defunct or superstitous at the point in ASOIAF the books take place in at least most peoples opinion's, personally I think it's a little more based around peoples actions instead of an overarching deity getting shit done for you.

An example would be maybe Jaime Lannister or prehaps Sandor Clegane.

>>25934543
U think this turning into to much of a mechanic's thread like 4e
>>
Examples of Scourge characters from the books:

Ser Robert Strong- the corpse of Ser Gregor Clegane, animated by dark science and magic. He does not need to eat or sleep, and has incredible strength, but seems to have no free will and does not speak.

Lady Stoneheart- the corpse of Catelyn Tully reanimated by the light of Rhollor and the desire for vengeance against the Freys for the red wedding. No compassion, cannot speak in anything more then a whisper because her throat has been cut, and her body has undergone decay.

Beric Dondarion- Leader of the Brotherhood without battles, killed in battle, and resurrected by the fire of Rhollor several times. Everytime he comes back he forgets something, bearing a mark of how he was killed. Passes on his fire to Catelyn Tully

Whitewalkers possibly? Men and women killed and resurrected by magic from the north. Lack of motor skill, will continue to function and try to kill even when dismembered. Weakness to fire and dragonglass. Perhaps an example of a Scourge could be the Snow Queen, who was human enough to seduce.

Possibly but we don't actually have enough information actually say if that really happened or not, also I think I should stress that we really don't want to make this mechanic's heavy or Fluff breaking.

I was thinking more like what FFG did with their Warhammer 40K RPGs than 4e. You know, get a level, buy perks for the EXP you earned and so on.

Idea - if the player suffered a critical failure and is almost sure to die, he can sacrifice one of his dice to avert the disaster.
That way, you only truly die if you want to, or if you're out of dice.
>>
>>25934768
That could work if we are say plotting out a Homebrew Rpg but since this is a quest I think we should keep it light and fluffy so as to not get bogged down in mechanics, which brings me to your second Idea which is very simple and conceptually Intresting: in short I like it.

There are a lot of ideas being tossed around right now, why don't we put down what we'll know for certain about the system.

success or failure is determined by rolling d6s. higher then five is normally a success. Certain die can only be used in "Brutal" or "Noble" situations, but can also be flipped to be used as their opposite alignment when a trigger phrase/memory is brought up.

Dice can be burned towards auto successes, and can be lost as crit fails. Die can only be flipped a certain number of times per action/scenario

When you loose all of your dice you die
>>
>>25936229
>but can also be flipped to be used as their opposite alignment when a trigger phrase/memory is brought up.

I don't get it.
>>
>>25936483
The guy in front of you had something to do with your mother.
Your mother memory is currently at Noble (she was a calm person) but you can turn it to Bestial (she never liked you).

Kinda like that. Each dice represents one aspect of your personality - and each has both a positive and negative side.
Basically, to stay alive, you need to hold on to your memories (dice) which both have a Noble and Bestial aspect.
>>
>>25936483
A scourge thinks of a certain event or person or thing, etc. to flip a die. Robb, for example, can think of his mothers brutal death to flip a die to brutal or remember how she was in life to flip the same die to noble.
However, others can do that too by bringing up the same subject. If a Frey brings up his mother and how she would be ashamed while he is fighting Robb, the die is flipped from brutal to noble, and he looses it for the fight. If an opponent makes a snide remark about his family in negotation, bringing up his mothers death, the die flips from noble to brutal and again Robb looses the die
>>
>>25936624

Ah okay.
>>
>>25936624

>>25936710
The real question- are die linked to stats or do we just have them?
>>
>>25936229

>Use of Brutal dice
*Combat
*Torture/Info Gathering
*Intimidation
*Being Seen as more Monsterious in certain situations
>Use of Noble dice
*Diplomacy
*Gathering Support/keeping Support
*Being seen as less monsterious in a certain situation

Some suggestions for Perks to Op:
>Herald of winter
In your mere presence there is an unnatural cold that seeps to the bone.
>King of Wolves
Wolves bend to your will with more ease.
>King of Man
your retain the sense command you held in life, men will follow your command easier.
>Unnatural Revnant
You move without mortal sound,no leaf stirs,no foot falls where you tread this is a personal effect not something affecting those who follow you
>>
>>25936813
Those sound nice.

I was thinking of maybe having some perks that allow us to see and hear through the eyes of our followers, maybe even speak through them. Yes, even through wolves, with the right perk. Later on we get full possession.
Another could be related to our predatory nature - we get more health back from eating stuff we hunted down personally, but at the cost of being more prone to frenzy. This includes humans.
We could also throw in something like Chameleon's skin - we become more apt to blending in outdoor environments the more time we spend in them - our fur becomes white and thick if we're spending time in snow, and turns dark when we're in forests.

Maybe we unlock more bestial aspects the more we advance? For example, if we defeat the Lannisters, we can devour an aspect of theirs - the Lion - and get some of its powers - improved Nobility and such.
>>
>>25936813
There should be neutral situtiations where you can use Noble or Brutal, but favoring one over the other gives you different results for failure and success.

Noble success nets you allies and responsibilities, noble failure leads reputation of weakness and honor. Brutal success gives you unwilling allies who act out of fear rather then loyalty, brutal failures give you a reputation for your strength and also savagery

Can perks be related to background? How you come back determines what's available.
>>
>>25936933

If we're going to follow this, I'd say go down the way of King of Wolves and King of Man.

Have Nymeria and the regular wolves harass the Lannister/Frey supply lines (which they sort of were anyway in the books) while we sow terror on any patrols we come across.

Once everyone of the Frey spawn are dead, we turn our attention to the North and Bolton.

>First off, I'm impressed this thread still exists. Second, I apologize. I could babble out a long ass story about what happened, but you're probably more concerned with the King in the North. So, writing.

You can hear the howls, as you walk back to Beric and his brotherhood. They spread like fires, to your left, to your right, behind you, as kin call for kin. Wolves peel away from the pack following you, only to return for more. Nymeria ranges around the edges of the pack, like a shepherd, snarling and nipping to keep them in line. You smell them, hear them, a great and abundant confusion, a hungry mass. Your army still follow though, which is what you needed.

You climb up the hill, and sense some hesitation from the wolves. They can smell humans on the wind as well, fire and cooked meat. Dangerous things. Nymeria keeps them in line though. It doesn't take overly long for a sentry to spot you, and raise a shout, an alarm. "Beric! Beric, you should see this!" You hear. Yes. Beric should see this. This was the point of this demonstration, was it not?

By the time you reach the top, a false light is starting to grow about you. What must they see, you wonder, up there among those rocks. A raging sea of gray, here and there glinting with eyes? You can see some of them, standing black against the reddening sky, crouched low, pointing. You hear a few shouts of confusion, calls to rouse. You won't be constrained this time to fake politeness, or modesty. The king has his army this time.

Your boots crack a few twigs in the rough path of the road, and as you reach the final ascent, you can smell Beric, Harwin, and Thoros, the Red Priest too. You rise the final few steps, and now you're staring, muzzle to eye with them. The three stand there, half dressed. Adrenaline has banished the last of the sleep from their eyes.
>>
Harwin is sweating, his skin shining with fear. Thoros a hand up on his forehead nursing a hangover, you judge from the wine you can scent, looks downright terrified. But Beric, Beric looks sad and cautious.

"Hail friend," He starts. He glances beyond you, as you hear Nymeria's heavy padding foot steps coming to a stop next to you. You can hear the panting wolves sliding out and around the camp, to cage them in a ring of eyes. Beric casts a gaze out to the wolves issuing about the camp. He clears his throat tentatively.

"Thoros had told me you had left camp in the middle of the night. I had worried about you, but eventually decided against following you. Everyone grieves in their own ways," He looks out at the ring surrounding him, "I, I don't suppose you could at least tell me if they're friendly or not? Harwin, go get charcoal and paper-"

"Only if you are."

Beric freezes mid word, but Harwin continues walking away. Thoros, more in tune with his old friend turns and looks at Beric, "Beric? What is it?"

Beric very slowly turns to you, unease set on his face, "That was you, wasn't it?" Beric shakes his head, and waves away Thoros's pleading for an explanation, "We have nothing but peace on our minds regarding you milord- what gave you the impression we were not?" Beric approaches, pleading in a low tone, "You are among FRIENDS, Robb." His lone eye keeps your gaze

Your wolves stay out of the range of the fire light, and to the credit of Beric's men, they make no hostile moves either- swords are at the ready, arrows nocked, but not a single string has been drawn, and not an inch of steel is unsheathed in the weak light. No sun yet shines over the hill that you're at the base of. In this ill light, a man's heart fears far easier.

>To speed up conversations, unless you have particular points in conversation that you want to make, you can tell me your objectives and roll your nobility or brutality pools for it.

Beric for his part looks relieved, if confused.

Nymeria, for her part, you sense irritation, hunger, but acquiescence. She snorts in irritation, before trotting off after the wolves.

"Well, that's a relief Robb, though, would you mind sending them away? I don't imagine we'll be going back to sleep, but I think it'd be a comfort to the men," Beric glances out at the sea of eyes. Thoros for his part looks intensely irritated.

"Would either one of you mind telling me what in the bloody hell is going on?"
Beric gives his best shaky smile, "Well, Robb here has found a way to talk. Less words, and more, ehh," he waves his hand in between the two of your heads, before giving up, "Skipping the air, I guess. Which is a relief," He chuckles, a forced chuckle, "I didn't want to tell Lord Robb that his chicken scratch was hard to comprehend."

He's doing his best to use humor to defuse the situation. Mocking you. Some part of you bristles in a fury at this. You are the King in the North.

Thoros frowns, remains silent, gives a worried glance at you. You suppose coming back with a swarm of wolves like this has impressed them of your power. If nothing else, Thoros should hold his tongue in the future.

Beric's intent was to go along the river, see what they could find. But, buoyed by your new troops, perhaps you could persuade him to go on a hunt instead?

>The sight of us drove Thoros back to drinking.
>>
>>25945080
As Beric and his men prepare, your wolves melt away to find their dens, frustrated at their unsuccessful hunt, but with no reason to associate you with such. Nymeria leaves last, giving a meaningful look. She is kin, she won't be far, and she'll bring the wolves when you call. More loyal than men, wolves.

Beric and his men are rattled by your demonstration of lupine force, but Beric seems to have a skill at calming the soldiers, and quickly rallies them together in the task of searching the river side for goods or remains to recover.

It's a bust. Here and there, you find a mangled corpse, or a sheet, or some other garbage, but nothing of use, nothing of worth. It's frustrating, and even Beric's men feel it too. A great deal of meaningless muck raking.

As you walk away from the river, morning wasted, making for a village where Beric knows he can get supplies, you smell something on the wind.

You growl a bit to yourself, before stopping. Beric's in the lead. You're still a good distance away from the village, it's just on the horizon. Looks normal, not like a problem.

But you smelled something out of the ordinary on that wind. Something that wasn't your standard peasant or villager. And then you heard a noise like a shifting of steel, and a smothered yell.

Ambush.

This presents an opportunity. You're sure it's Freys, these are Frey lands. Killing the servants of Freys would be satisfying. But, if the leadership of Beric's band were to be cut off, that would give you an opportunity to step in. Or if Thoros were to die, that would be another advantage. He could go missing in the chaos.

Dishonorable, a part of yourself thinks. Vile, wretched, terrible thing to think.

Honor was what brought Robb to the Twins, and 'dishonor' means that Frey lived, while you two died a part of you, the piece that wishes for the crown more than anything, whispers.

Opportunities. Warn them? Let them walk in? What to do.

A part of you screams in frustration, but another piece of you is unwilling to turn on pack, no matter how tenuous they might be.

"Trap," You growl out. A few men glance over to you in surprise, but no real reaction beyond that. Dense, stupid creatures. Damnable wolf mouth. You roll your eyes, and think to Beric, "Trouble in the village ahead. Tell your men to stop."

Beric halts turns to you, "I'm sorry?"
"Freys," You growl, stalking past him, "Trap."

"I'm going hunting," You think to him, "Tell your men to hold back for a while. As soon as they reveal themselves, strike."

You stalk forward to the town while Beric shushes his men, and sends them to tree cover. A few groans, but they follow suit. You are please though that Beric is proving able to follow orders. Would be better if his men followed your orders, but he has proven cooperative, if not entirely loyal.

You stalk toward the village, ears out, listening, hand on your sword hilt. Just an ordinary man with a dire wolf's head on his shoulders, don't worry about little old me. A few chickens cluck, and flap away from you, as you approach the collection of huts gathered around the Septon's shrine. Through the smell of fish guts, you can smell men. You even hear a few whispering in confusion as you approach the village's limits.

A man stumbles out of a house, pushed. Cap and robe on, and terrified eyes bugged out staring. Village elder. Unarmed.

"Wh-Who are you...?"

You smell the air. The old man is utterly terrified. You glance at the hut behind him that he was pushed out of. Whoever this was in charge of the ambush would be in there. They knew something was wrong.

"A-Are you in some kind of costume?" The old man is still speaking. An annoyance, "We, we were expecting our good friend Lord Beric- di-did you see him?" The old men becomes painfully aware of what you really are when your eye turns to him, and then back across the town.

Twelve men here, in the village. Four in the house the old man was pushed out of, two in the stall you had passed on the way to the center man's house, one on top of the roof of the elder's house, five more behind their little church. They'd probably have more, out in the woods to close the net.

"What manner of monster is this?" You hear whispered from the elder's house. You hear a muffled cry. A hostage. Should you care?

Who are you to care? These are Frey lands. Frey peasants. Beric can cry a river for all you care.

You look at the old man. He seems to finally understand. Run, you think to him. Run along, and you might live. You need someone to pass word of what you'll do after all.

You draw your sword.

The men in the elder's house seem to understand, as the elder slips back, falls, and starts scrambling away, "I don't care if it isn't Beric, kill it!" An arrow catches you in the arm, another in the breast. You don't let it stop you.

First the men behind you. They stand and move forward, swords out, covering one another. Chainmail, nice shiny swords. Men sent on a hunt, not just guarding a wagon full of fish and biscuits.

"The fuck is that then?" One whispers as they approach you.
"I dunno, but it's hit, get it now while it's weak!"

Still fools. You turn slowly, letting them underestimate you. The first man raises his sword with both hands. You draw your sword then, cold muscles stronger than they ever were in life. Good steel, Beric gave you- it passes through the man's arms cleanly. You kick the screaming wretch over, and disembowel the other while he backs away, trying to get a grip on what he just saw. There it is. Bedlam. You hear screams, shouts, and suddenly everyone is moving a great deal faster as they realize now that it wasn't some manner of waking dream, or some ridiculous costume. The elder sprints past, whatever relative left in his house forgotten.

Another arrow. The man on the roof. Irritating. He pulls back the draw string in a hurry, shaking hands pointing at you. The five behind the sept come running across the way towards you, axes and hammers up. Them first. Another arrow catches you in the back as you walk to the five. You hear from the roof top, "He don't care sir! He don't care!"
>>
The first swings from the side, leaving him an opening you could have exploited even at the Red Wedding. Your hand catches his axe, and your sword catches his throat.

The second swings at your neck, but you learned your lesson earlier. You grab the axe from the first, and block his blade, giving him a kick to the stomach which sends him off his feet and gasping in the dirt. The third man slices open your belly- your guts spill out, but it doesn't stop you from stabbing him in the heart. That didn't even hurt. You dully wonder if there's anything that would hurt you, aside from the stitches. You throw your axe at the laggard fifth man, reveling in the crack of his ribs, and arrest the fourth man's swing with your blade. You push the blade down to his crossguard and get close to him. He tries to head butt you. Brave. You maul him. He shrieks, let's go of his blade trying to fend you off, leaving him open.

He makes a disgusting flapping noise with his cheek as he screams his last. The man you kicked is still on the ground, trying to rise when your sword catches him in the temple. You take a quick stock as you turn. Yes, that was the eighth arrow that just got put in to you. With a snarl, you heave a fallen sword at the pest. It misses, but the archer yelps and hides.

You overhear the conversation within. "You, run to Lord Frey!"
"They had to have heard the screams!"
"They're waiting for Beric's men to run to them, they WON'T come unless someone tells him!"
"You do it!"
"Me? I've got a bad leg!"

You approach, bloody blade in hand. A Lord? Excellent

You kick open the elder's door. A man actually in some refined looking mail, a droopy mustache stands at a table. A pox scarred man behind him, knife in hand, mid threatening. A third, sword up, standing from a chair. A fourth holding a gagged woman with his knife. And a little girl, in the corner. The man with the woman immediately heaves her between you and him.

"Now, look here, you come any closer and I'll-"
>>
>>25946752
>"He don't care sir! He don't care!"

Let's be sure to leave a few mutilated survivors left once this is all done. One crazed madman won't be believed, but when dozens of terrified Freys pour in all saying the same thing our tale shall grow and those we face will dread our coming.
>>
>>25946873
I like this idea. Let the Freys and all who support them grow fearful of even sleeping at night.
>>
You hold the man's gaze behind the hostage as you stab your sword in to the rising man's eye.

"I'm warning you-"

You step in to the room, as the gurgling man whose head is wrapped around your sword is dragged along. The man with the woman in front of him steps back. The mustached man sadly draws his mace, and the man with the knife backs away, looking for some way out.

"I, I really will!"
"Please, gods, no, just let me go," You hear the woman whisper. Frey peasant. You twist your blade. The creature at the end of it gurgles, but doesn't scream. Pity. You pull the blade, hearing the wet crack of skull.

The mustached man with the mace steps forward, "I'll not die a coward," he says, looking at you. Good for him. He raises his weapon. You bat it aside with your hand, thrust your blade home in to his belly. He gasps, leaning over it. You see the man with the knife to the woman's throat is starting to pale. He's starting to realize the truth.

"Please, don't come closer," He presses the knife to her throat.

"Ah Hell, I was never on their side!" Pox face falls to his knees, clasping his hands together, "Please sir, believe me!" The mark on his tabard says otherwise. You kick the mustached man off of your blade. The poxxed man looks up, trying to find something to stay your hand. You swing down, tidily split his skull.

The house is silent, aside from the noise of running blood. The woman has stilled, eyes shut, pushed back against the man. The man holding the knife to her throat stares at you. Seems to be thinking. Swallows hard. You turn, blade out and walk to him.

"Fuck this," The man's eyes narrow, "I'm not dying alone."

He slits the woman's throat. You slit him from neck to groin.

The house is silent now. You hear a man in the bushes out back. The little girl in the corner is staring up at you, with pathetic tear stained eyes. Another Frey peasant.

As for the man in some better-looking mail, we'll keep this one alive if we can. He's a good canditate for terrified witness after we relieve him of a few of his fingers.

You glance around. Everything was dying except for the child. You turn, consider her, while idly rolling your intestine around your hand, and pushing them back in to your stomach under your clothes. These would need replacing. Once good clothes, the battles had rendered them unsuitable for a king.

You turn to the little girl. She doesn't look at you. She's dully staring down to the woman on the floor. You glance over to the woman. She's still got a mote of life. Eyes clouding, starting to drift off. Lips trying to shape something. Staring at the little girl. A glance back to the girl. She's trying her best to stay very still. Very composed. Still not looking at you.

You lean in. She shuts her eyes. Still doesn't look at you.

"Your Lords broke the law. Now they suffer the Gods' punishment."

She can yet live to pass on that information. You stand, step over the river of blood running from the woman, and walk out the door in to the sun.

You hear the archer crawling, flailing behind the house. You walk over, pass the bushes (Some sort of crop?), and see him crawling in the dirt, fists full of grass he had torn up in his panic. He had landed on his leg wrong. The foot was at a funny angle. He was gasping, crying, sandy colored hair, a youth.

"Stay away!" He rolls on to his back, shaking knife in hand, still trying to push back with the good parts of his body, "Just, just stay away! I'll call out to them! The soldiers out in the forest, they'll come if I call! You, you just stay away, or else they'll come after you!"

A Frey soldier. What reason could you have for letting him live? Your flesh is filled with his arrows. Pay him in kind.

To tell our tale, some part of you advises, to sow dread in the hearts of those we seek vengeance against.

But you already have two! A part of you screams again. Two! A third would be superfluous!

Really, that's more in-line with King Robb when he was fighting the Lannisters. We're avenging a much more grave crime, that of breaking guest right and outright betrayal.

Perhaps take his eyes. No enemy under our care ever sees us again, but they'll always hear our howls.
>>
>>25947763

"Stay back!" A knife. What a joke. You sheathe your sword. The boy wavers then.

Freys. You let the words enter his head. He jumps, in terror, "Wha, what is this?"

You place a foot on his ankle. He shrieks jerks it away, but that only makes it worse. You clamp it down, pin it to the ground like a rabbit.

Freys. You think to him again. He lashes out, slices at your leg. You grab his hand, twist until he lets go of the knife.

How tedious, some part of you thinks, but no. You keep control.

"Stop, stop saying that!"
Where are the Freys. You add punctuation to every word with a press on his ankle.

He takes some time to stop shrieking, get himself under control again.

"They're in the woods!" He waves to a line of trees. You glance up. No sign of them from this distance, but there's a goodly amount of fields between there and you. Your vision is good, but they might be trying to hide.

How many men are with him? Knights? Bowmen?

"He, agh, he has two knights with him! Twenty bows, twenty foot!"

Sizable. Then again, Beric's band were sizable as well. You glance back to your own side of tree line. No sight of enemies there either.

Who leads them?
"Lord Petyr Frey!"

Petyr Frey. You bare your teeth, happily. Petyr and his brother had greeted you before the Red Wedding. Grey Wind had tried to kill them. Robb Stark had stopped him. Not this time.

"I can tell you more," the man underneath you pleads, "Whatever you want to hear!"

You reach down, pick up his knife. Not too dirty.

You release his foot. The man relaxes, before your foot slams down on his neck, pinning him in place. You lean in close.

Remember the King in the North, you advise the man, and you might yet live.

You are sure somebody must have heard him, the way he wailed as you work the blade in to his sockets to cut the retina, and loose the eyes. It is hard work, to not kill him.

We surrounded Beric and his men with a sea of wolves.
Maybe not hundreds, but it's still a lot, and I doubt anyone expects wolves to attack their camp at night.
If nothing else, we can use the wolves to hunt down anyone trying to run away from us.
>>
>>25948714
Yeah Op if your still taking votes I like this.

The number has never been confirmed rightly but i think it's safe to say we have more than anyone has likeley seen in a thousand years.

Any horses should be a priority target. Any man running of foot is dead meat, not even a question about it.

We take 'Lord' Frey's head personally.

Do we sent his corpse back with his head stitched on his torso?

We need to hit around 500 before that's technically true.

You stand. The man shrieks incoherently, hands over his eye sockets. You grab the hem of his shirt, wipe the blade clean of blood, and push it back in to his scabbard, and walk back out in to the town.

There is still life here. But none that dare to show themselves. You look over at the bodies, then glance to church. A nice white wall.

You grab two bodies and make for the church's facade.

It takes time, and a third body, but you splatter the message up on the wall. "Guest Gifts for the Freys."

You leave the corpses where they lay and stalk back to Beric's men.

His men are hiding well, and the breeze works with them. With the wind at your back, you don't even smell them until you're a few dozen yards from the lines. In the shade of the trees, a shadow detaches from the rest of the group, scarecrow Beric. He approaches with a brow raised. "Arrows? For me? You shouldn't have. Do you need help with those?"

"Not really," You think, as you idly start picking them out. No barbs this time, thankfully.

"Yes, we heard the screams from over here," Beric glances up, "Ended awful quick. Ten minutes, must not have been many?"

"Not many," you agree, "Only twelve." Beric seems a bit off put by that, but you didn't have time for his nonsense, "More importantly," you forcefully think to him, "There are a further forty or so men outside in the wood."

"Damn, forty men?" Beric glances at his men. A quick headcount shows that there are thirty six men with you. Light irregular soldiers, "How do you know?"

"Asked one of them," you think, pulling out the last of the arrows. You consider the blood. Black. Not a hint of life. Yet, you feel your belly, it is sealed. Curious condition you're in.

Thoros comes up, grumpy and irritated, "Oh good, another one sided conversation. What's this about forty men?"

Beric sighs, turns, "Apparently, Robb here ran in to some men-"
"I heard the screams, Beric, tell me something I don't know."
>>
"Right," Beric rolls his eye, "At any rate, Robb, asked, and apparently there were only twelve in the town."
"Told you he was good," Harwin butts in with a smile. Thoros shushes him with irritation.
"Get to the point Beric, do we have forty heavily armed Frey men about to land on us or not?"
"Well, that depends," Beric turns back to you, "Did you let the one you asked get away?"

"Of course," you think with some irritation. Not necessarily just at the question, but at the memory of letting him live. Beric sighs, shakes his head before you butt in with aggravation, "He does not know of your presence, just mine. I needed him to spread word."

"Spread word? I- actually, I'd rather not ask, did you see Havelof? He was supposed to give us food today. Old man, rather short, bent back?"
"Just let me know when you're done,"Thoros appears to have given up on following along, and is sitting on a nearby rock.

"He lives," You think to Beric, "The Frey apparently were going to use him to get you in to a trap."
"Hm," Beric shakes his head, "It seems we can't feed from here then. The Freys will punish this town if we get food from here."

"The Frey in town are dead, I saw to that," You think to Beric. Beric shakes his head.
"No, it's only luck that they only saw you. Thank you, by the way for leaving the witness. That'll help the story. But if we get involved? I won't see Havelof and his people suffer. We can find food elsewhere."
"You can fight and win against the rest of the Frey. They can't punish when they are dead."
"I'm not," He looks back at the rest of the men and whispers to you, "I do not wish to risk my men's lives for this when we can simply walk away, Robb. You have to understand, we're not an army. It's different from when you were a King."

You've never lost a battle. But Beric seems content to be timid. You could try to convince him...Or force the matter on him. At any rate, the Frey are not going to sit in the woods forever, not without a reason.

How many men does Beric hold command of?

Either way - inform him of the fleet of wolves you have at your disposal.
>>
>>25949329
I say let the matter lie, Beric after all has been doing this much longer then us.

>>25949353
somewhere between 30-50 men I think.
>>
>>25949329
Let it go. We'll hunt the Freys down ourselves.
We'll stalk them by night, and then disappear, until they are mad with fear and do something stupid.

"You have men. I have wolves. If we hunt together, war together, we will win. Easy."

That's two for playing the wolf card.

If you want to try to convince him, roll 3d6, best of three.

Let's go power ranger wolf force.

I second this.

Ask any true northmen/rivermen to join us in our vendetta, but we're not sticking around while our enemies son is within our grasp.

"Beric," You look him in the eyes, giving him a hard look, "We can win. Easily."

Frey scowls, "It's not that simple, my men are good but the numbers are-"
"Remember the wolves," You wave a hand out to encompass the forest, "The woods are the ideal terrain for them. It won't be just your men against his. The wolves will come too, when I call."
"Wolves come out at night," Beric points up to the sun, holding its position above you, "May I point out how distant it is from night?"
"Give them a reason to stay."
"You want my men to distract them until nightfall?" Beric shakes his head, "Dangerous, dangerous and, and pointless!" There is a note of anger in Beric's voice. Bold. Bold and foolish.

Thoros looks up at this. He looks at you with concern- but you raise your hand. Peace.

You are angry. He defies a king. But, he is a warrior. A warrior who has fought long. Perhaps too long. You incline your head slightly, respectfully. He fears for his soldiers. And for the smallfolk.

"Beric, tell me honestly. Do you believe that the Frey shall not repeat this feat?" You point to the village, "How many more villages do you seek refuge from? How many packages left by grateful peasants? If I know, the Frey shall know too Beric."
"They, they can't prove it-"
"They have all the proof they need right now," You point to the arrows, "These arrows were intended for you, and yours. They failed at this village. Do you think they'll blame themselves? Or a monster out of a fable? No. They'll blame the small folk they put in harm's way. If it doesn't happen here, it'll happen in another village, the next time you seek to eat, or get new boats, or stitch a cloak, or have your men visit family."
>>
Beric can't seem to find your eye. You press the attack.

"Forty Frey wait in those trees for Beric and his men to arrive, to kill them. They heard the screams. They'll be impatient, and when they don't find Beric? What do you think they'll do?"
"Fine!" Beric snaps. Then, with a bit of composure and regret, "I know you're right. Wolves?"
You step closer, and nod, "More than enough wolves for the Freys," And you, but you leave that part unsaid. He's smart enough to figure that out.

Beric purses his lips, nods, "I'll draw them off. Least I can do for Havelof after all he's done for me. We'll keep them guessing in these woods until nightfall."

Thoros groans. Beric gives a tight grin, claps Thoros on the shoulder, "Come on friend! Another glorious battle to protect the small folk awaits! You were the one that liked the tourneys so well after all."
"Yes, but back then I didn't have to worry about getting you up again, you did that yourself," Thoros grumbles, but doesn't resist being led off by Beric to join the rest of the men.

Good. Beric is skilled- he can keep the enemies distracted until nightfall, you're sure. Is there anything you shall do to prepare?

"I'll support you in this," You think to Beric. Beric seems genuinely happy, and claps you on the shoulder. The look you give him immediately makes him regret it, but he still seems happy to have your help.

"Jack-Be-Lucky, Harwin, Notch, Likely Luke, Mudge, Lem," He rattles off a list of names, variously nicknames, and insults, and men step from the shadows to stand before Beric, as he finishes, "Merrit, alright," Beric manages to summon up some inner strength to smile his gap tooth smile at the motley crowd before him, sixteen men in all, "I know you sneaks would filch my kit if I let you out of my sight, so I'm going to have to drag you along while we play at being wolves with our good friend Stitchneck here," A few chuckles. You tamp down the irritation with in you. Morale was more important here. Still, you give a warning growl. Beric waves you away, "But the most important thing right now, is that we have a bunch of reeking Frey camped out in the woods opposite of this village. We're all hungry, right?" A chorus of agreement, "We're all sick to death of meat that's more weevil than flesh, right?" Vigorous agreement, "Well gents, time to earn your keep! All we have to do is keep that lot of bridge minders lost in the woods. Pretty damn easy, eh? Dennett," A bushy head perks up, "Soon as you see the Freys chasing us, get to town, make sure they're alright. We'll try to be along by nightfall, but if something goes wrong, we meet at the Old Stones, got it?"
"I hear you."

"Good," Beric nods, "Grab your bows, and get ready. We're hunting quiet."

A long, needless speech by your estimate, but it seemed a tradition to these grubby huntsmen. They act quickly, gathering bows, arrows, and supplies- you even see one of the men snatching up the arrows that used to be you. Soon, they fall in step behind you and Beric, and you creep through the undergrowth making for where the Freys were supposed to be.
>>
You wordlessly take the lead, and the men seem alright following you. Probably easier on the mind than having you at their back. You for once feel utterly in tune, your eyes easily adjusting to the light, seeing movement. You smell the horses first- fragrant creatures. Only three of them. You hold up a hand, beseeching quiet. You and the brothers crouch down low to the ground, and creep forward. As you march forward you come to a rise in the forest among a line of old, mossy trees, and can get a proper vantage point, you can see an argument is developing between the men on the horse, regaled in shining mail. A young man. Petyr Frey, covered in warts and pimples, he looks nervous underneath his helmet, and repeatedly pulls at the chainmail around his neck. An older man with a beard is chiding him. The third, a man looking about Peter's age waits nervously at the edge. Meanwhile, all the rest of the Frey foot and archers were sitting on the ground, weapons and in some cases armor left nearby. You can't be more than four dozen yards away, yet they can't see you.

"My Lord Frey, decisive action is what is required on the field of battle-"
"You heard him!" Frey's voice cracks in his shriek, before he regains his composure, "There's none of Beric's men here!" You can see Frey is struggling in his gauntlets to write a message, "We need orders."
"A costume!" The bearded man shouts in irritation, "It's a trick, Petyr, and your father would be ashamed to see you falling for such a simple ruse."
"A trick, Ser Reeve?" Petyr asks, and then shouts again, "A trick?! Only one man came back, and he came back without EYES!"

You can see the footmen looking at the confrontation nervously.

"Bandits can be cruel, milord," The other young man pipes in.

"I don't care," Petyr mumbles, scratching at his paper, "I need guidance."
Ser Reeve looks up to the sky, "My Lord Frey, either give the order to retreat, or give the order to attack, we are wasting TIME sitting in the woods!"
>>
>>25950019
Wait, is this day or night?

If night, signal your fellow pack mates to howl from the woods.
>>
>>25950041
It's daytime. I guess we can give a howl as a distraction, so when they start to panic and follow us, Beric and his men have a clear shot at their backs.
>>
"If I go out there now, we fall in to the trap of this, this-"
"We have forty trained men, my lord," Ser Reeve hisses between his teeth as Petyr pushes the message to the other young man's hands, "We go to the village, root them out of their hiding spots, and if we do find what that man described, we can go back then-"
"No, no," Petyr shakes his head, "We tell father what happened, and then he gives the order one way or another. He can't blame me if something goes wrong then!"
Ser Reeves shakes his head, and mutters something under his breath, but otherwise seems to stop talking. Petyr Frey seems satisfied. The third man canters off, evidently to speed a message to Ryman.

Beric looks at you. Mouths: Cut out his eyes?

You don't speak. It's still day time. And apparently, at least for however long it takes for a message to get to Ryman, the Freys aren't moving. Close to ideal.

>At this, I have to leave it for now. It's officially 3:50AM, and I gotta sleep. Sorry guys. Pick it up on Saturday I guess.

Yeah, I'm sorry about that. I sincerely hope it doesn't happen again. At any rate, have a good night, and thanks for keeping this thread up ridiculously long.
>>
>>25950053
See you on Saturday, then.

>>25950057
Fair enough. We really could've used a diversion here - smart tactics is how we win battles.
>>
>>25950053

Look at Beric and say, "He was going to kill a child and a message had to be sent." Then, move away from the group and howl, letting them have clear shots at the Freys.
>>
>>25950087
Aye, but to create a more efficient brand of terror, and get it to art, one must tailor the plots to the situations.
Thats why a wolf howl in the night is so terrifying, because its untraceable and unknown, you can't find or track it, you're just left huddled against a guttering light as the eyes of the wolves surround your camp, whereas its not nearly as effective during the day.
>>
>>25950138
I'm not arguing about it not being as effective now than it would've been during the night.
I'm just suggesting that we need to create a distraction so we can exploit their fear against them. Say, we could follow that messenger alone, rip him to shreds, and then pick off the men who came there to investigate his screams. You know the drill - divide and conquer.
>>
>>25950090
We don't have to justify ourselves.
>>
>>25950283
We are a KING.
>>
WE haven't hit bump limit yet have we?

Want to talk stats
>>
>>25952349
We hit it about 23 posts ago.
Shoot, we have some time before this thing autosages.
>>
>>25952389
Well right now we have six die we can roll- two noble, two brutal, and two neutral. But figuring out when we're rolling the noble ones and when we're rolling the brutal ones are kind of up in the air. Why not attach the die to stats so we knowb what we're rolling and when we need to use a die that is currently being used as.

Also, we need to come up with memories to attach to the noble and brutal die
>>
>>25952561
I liked the idea of every die representing two sides of something that was important to Robb - like his mother, both caring and strong as steel, his sisters - loving yet suffering a terrible fate and so on. If we're having neutral dice, those should represent some skill Robb mastered or something similar - something that's neither noble or brutal.
>>
Rolled 6 + 4

>>25952561
I don't think we have neutral die. We can flip them, but right now I believe it's a 3-5 split in favour of brutal.

Which I'm fine with, since for now we seem to commanding armies of wolves more than men. And aside from perhaps the Blackfish once the siege is lifted (if indeed it has started already) we won't have any sort of viable armed force of men in the near future.
>>
>>25952678
Yeah, I kinda like having Brutal/Noble dice only.
We could call Brutal something like Bestial, and it'd cover actions such as sneaking, hunting and such - basically instinctual actions.
Noble dice represent our humanity - our knowledge, our diplomacy, and so on.

If we're going to throw in Neutral dice, let those represent memories we let go - they mean nothing to us and are only a void inside us.
We're basically a revenant - if we don't hold to our memories, we lose ourselves.
>>
>>25952715
So why don't we associate our die with things then?

Six to distribute, three noble three brutal
