Hello /tg/, it's me again. Over the past two evenings, I've been running a civilisation thread using the OP image. The first session lasted a healthy five or so hours, while the second a tiring seven. The link to the previous threads is here:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Civilisation%20quest

And I'd just like to make one thing clear; I am not going to abandon this. As far as I'm concerned, we keep going until the Children of the mountain rule the world or are wiped out entirely. If /tg/ loses interest, I'll stop. But I don't plan to just give it up.

For those of you with sharp eyes, I've modified the OP image slightly. Mainly because there is a thread using it, but also because there were a string of complaints about Skaven struggling with technology even though this isn't WHFB. Consider it fixed.

When the new scouts returned, they related the layout of the dwarf area as best they could. They said there were two entrances, one large and one small, on two different sides of the mountain. They had dubbed the mountain ‘Gold find’ in honour of the shiny new material. The dwarves kept everything they owned underneath, only using the surface as somewhere to make fires and dump waste. There were great piles of shattered rock littered throughout their territory, higher than a troll. Goats and other animals were abundant there, as the dwarves seemed to hunt very little. The larger entrance was a huge affair, larger by far than the temple. The great doors were wood inlaid with a black hard material, called ‘iron’. The smaller entrance was rarely used and only located by accident. It was a small door, not big enough for a troll and far higher up than the other entrance.

In the days that followed this new, Gronk ordered new weapons forged and a training regime to be implemented. He had Moruk’s goblins show the other slaves their new found skills, even as Moruk demonstrated his to the trolls. Moruk was faster and stronger than any of the bull trolls, easily spinning away from every attack they made. He took on three or more of them without much trouble and soon adapted to using a club while fighting. The new clubs had slabs of sharp rock in place of tips, like large flints. Ragnar said they reminded him of ‘axes’ a human weapon. These trollish ‘axes’ were undeniably deadly, cutting great chunks out of whatever they were directed against.

Lizardfolk nigga, in the fucking tundra.
>>
>>25912745
Read the OP, this is clearly not a new thread.
>>
It seems there is no interest for the Children. I wonder if my thread is late, or if there's another civ thread somewhere, maybe on /b/.
>>
>>25912734
Alright, lets Hunt for more Mountain goats, and try to research some more troll technology.

Also have we interacted with the dwarfs yet?
>>
>>25912846
Drat, I forgot to post the summary. If you want a comprehensive understanding of what has happened, read the threads. I understand that that's very time consuming however, so I'll write a short summary.

After his victory over the Skull Eatas, Gronk decided to take over their home, as well as rule their tribe. It was in this new home that a shaman named Ragnar found him, and offered to tutor him in the magics of the earth. Ragnar's lessons helped Gronk immensely with his fire magic, but he couldn't seem to master earth magic. It was also around that time that Gronk's scout, Moruk, returned. He brought news of a weakly held human city some days travel south of the mountains. He also said that there was a new camp of goblins, probably looking for those taken as slaves in the first thread.

The last actions of the previous thread were all about preparing for war.
>>
>>25912734
Make a chest plate for gronk out of the gold we got, and then make as many axes as possible.
>>
Damn, this is weird. We had at least five people playing the first thread, and way more on the second. Either way, I'll write the update.
>>
>>25912895
Ahh alright, then to war it is! I suppose trolls are not too thrilled about armor are they. Of course we'd need something to make the armor out of and a smithy...Oh well.
>>
>>25912961
Ah, there's one veteran at least. So, producing troll technology is agreed by both of you, but you want a golden breastplate. You know that it will be no use in a fight?
>>
>>25912984
Yes, for armour you rally need metal. However, there are no better armour smiths than the dwarves, and there are some only a few days away. Whether they are forced to produce things for the Children or bargained with, the idea is viable.
>>
Kill-kill dwarf-things! Eat dwarf-meat! Get shinies!
>>
>>25913003
A deal with the dwarves could benefit us quite well, however if we're more inclined to war we can just take slaves. Hell we could even bump every goblin slave who helps us fight into second class citizens.
>>
>>25913035
>>25913006
>>25912961
I need a decision for the second action.
>>
>>25913035

No talk-plan with dwarf-meat! Eat-kill!
>>
>>25913057
There's something not quite right about this troll... I can't place my finger on it.
>>
>>25913051
Look-find west of Big-rock. Learn-know what is there so we can take-kill things!

OR

Go back south. Kill-capture goblins. Put under supervision of loyal goblins. Use as meat-shields for battle with dwarves
>>
>>25913051
Go south and check out the situation
>>25913057
But we could have fully armored trolls with greatswords running around.....Would Goblin equality earned through combat work?
>>
Z: Make the gold chest plate.
E: Continue training melee, making sure they're used to hitting dwarf sized things.

I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of activity. Sometimes these things take a while to start up.
>>
>>25912988
Yes, but gold is soft so a sword could get stuck in it, and it's more a display of his status.
>>
>>25913108
Little goblins are smallest children of Big papa! Little ones must earn places.

Can we have goblins carve statues and stuff as a free action? They'd be of us, of course. If not, cave paintings and carvings on every inch of our "Palace"
>>
>>25913093
We already know that west of big rock is the dwarf mine.

>>25913108
We'll go with that as it was suggested by both of you. I'd also like to mention that goblin equality was brought up in the last thread, and revoked completely.

>>25913126
Glad to have you with us, though I think we're going with scouting and producing more axes this turn.
>>
>>25913139
Hmmm. Alright then forego the though for now, if some do happen to kick major ass in the future I'll bring it up again but I digress the thread.
>>
>>25913137
Carving could be done as a free action, but the goblins won't do it without being ordered to. They don't really like the trolls much, with the exception of Tak-Tak and Moruk's elites.
>>
So pleased was Gronk with his new axes, he had enough made for the entire complement of fighting trolls. Wood and stone was gathered from the surrounding lands, all under the supervision of Ragnar. Using the elusive earth magic, he bound the two materials together, negating the need for any form of sediment or binding. Some time was devoted to attempting to teach Gronk the binding, but earth magic still escaped his grasp. His language was more than sufficient for the task, but he lacked the power. After several failures, Gronk flew into a rage and stormed out of the temple. He returned after a day, and no-one was stupid enough to remind him of the axes.

Moruk was once again dispatched south, this time on a short term mission. He was to locate the goblin encampment he stole the gold from and assess their strength. It was likely, said Ragnar, that they would have doubled the guard after Moruk’s last visit. Extra caution was advised to the head strong young troll, but he merely grinned and set off. Upon his return, he said the camp was twice as large as the last. From his view point, he had spotted several beings that were definitely not goblins, one of which was as large as a troll. Gronk grinned, knowing that the tribe too had grown since those days. It seemed clear to Moruk that the camp wasn’t moving anywhere, as they had started to erect wooden walls and dig large fire pits.

A. Hunt goats.
D. Train fire magic.

Specifically, it'd be cool if Gronk learn how to squelch large fires with his magic.
>>
>>25913421
Aha! Yet another old hand.
>>
>>25913423
I'll go with this as well.
Also, is mating a free action?

What is everyone thinking so far? Get the goblins on our side (aka enslave) and take the dwarfs? Also are we looking to enslave the dwarfs? We could use them!
>>
>>25913465
gobbelins are easier to break mentally. dorfs are strongwilled. i say goblinslaves, dorfdinner

Train fire-magic
Train air-magic (fire+air=bigger fire)
>>
>>25913465
Mating just happens, but very slowly. Don't expect cubs often, and expect them to take a long time to grow up. If you look at the OP image, you'll see that trolls have 'abysmal' for breeding. This is my wave of representing that.
>>
We need-need earth magic. Dwarf-things live underground, yes-yes? Earth all around dumb-dwarfs. Eath-magic can kill-cruch all dwarf-things! Gronk and Ragnar can kill all dwarfs and take mine!

Also, have Ragnar start teaching some of the other trolls earth magic too! Only we and Ragnar can use fire-magic, but trolls are of the earth! Every troll should know earth-magic, so say Big Papa! With all trolls knowing little earth magic, they can amplify Big Papa, make him strong-mighty.

Put those down as research and training
>>
>>25913465
Earth-magic can take dwarfs. Kill most, leave some. Make weapons. Then, when we have good weapons, strong-sturdy armor, we kill-capture all goblins. We will be the King of the Mountains!
>>
>>25913500
Most of that's not viable, I'm afraid. Gronk is the only one to show an ability to wield magic, and Ragnar only knows earth magic.

>>25913493
None of the current gathering know air magic, and researching it's not really possible.
>>
Back as well,

We should go smash these gobbos and add them to our existing goblins as more slaves!!
>>
>>25913355
We must eat ragnar, to gain his power he has tought us all he can, this is the only use we have for him.
Also worship big papa.
>>
>>25913536
Arrait
Train firemagic and train for war then. Next turn the littlest ones will feel the power of a fiery mountain
>>
>>25913561
This. It seems like we can only use magic if we eat a magic user.
>>
>>25913536
RagnarQuiz
Earthmagic, sure.
Has he been more specific as to what types of spells/effects he can conjure?
Need info for clever warmagic ideas
>>
>>25913620
This question will be asked, and hopefully answered in the update.
>>
>>25913500
hey folks, hope you dont mind me joining so late?

in my opinion, as trolls, we should send a squad{?} of trolls, maybe a few goblins to smash up the goblin camp, then we could hunt/train while we wait for their return.

>>25913465
also the idea of enslaving the dwarfs sounds like the best thing to do, although it may be hard resisting killing the little stunts, they are the best craftsmen.
>>
>>25913714
also not just smash the goblin camp up, obviously take as many as we can as slaves
>>
>>25913714
I´m a bit sceptical to use goblins vs goblins, they might stab us in the back...
How about sending our goblins together with moruk to raid the weakly held human settlement, while our main force of trolls take out the goblincamp?
>>
>>25913747

I'm worried that this might be seen as an affront to Moruk, who would very much want the glory of participating in the larger battle.

But I agree that we should be careful about sending gnomes after gnomes.
>>
>>25913747
While weakly held, Märlas is still a city of several hundred inhabitants. Their guard will not equal this number and they have weak walls, but sending Moruk alone may be a suicide mission.

>>25913777
Gnomes? Maybe you mean goblins?
>>
>>25913747
I agree, we should simply use our trolls to smash the remaining goblins- remember we have to put the fear of the big papa in them- and using slaves won't do that.
However, I'm not for touching the humans yet- we should keep our small numbers together for now.
>>
>>25913777

>goblins
Type, and forgot my name.
>>
Have-got idea! Give immunity from being eaten to every goblin who is parent of five babes! Then, take babes, give to loyal goblins. Teach-tell babes that Big Papa is papa of all of them. Babes become loyal, obedient. Will not need parents when they grow up.

Will take long time, but is good idea, yes-yes?
>>
>>25913777
i think it is important to make it clear to moruk, that it is Gronk, Big Papa who is boss here.
Moruk will do as he is told, complaining means endind up in Gronk`s stomach, together with Ragnar
>>
>>25913747
thats true, i do like the sound of that more
(to be honest i had forgotten about the settlement...}
but yes, id send the goblins for that, then the trolls take the camp.
id recommend trying to snag up at least a few of the humans, if not for slaves then for something to nibble on. same goes for any livestock found in either the goblin or the human settlements.
i mean the settlement must have cows or sheep, and the goblins seem to be digging in, so who knows what they are herding over there {if they are herding at all that is}
>>
>>25913798
here, sorry.
>>
>>25913795
I`m not proposing taking the city, just raiding the outskirts. leave some gobbelin arrows(and perhaps corpses) at a selected few farms.
try to create a hoomans/gobbelin conflict, as well as gather some hoomans for interrrogation and tech info
>>
>>25913884

also, where we at with the votes?
>>
>>25913895

>>
>>25913839
NO-NO! Cannot take-eat cattle with trolls. Send goblins for that. Humans know goblins around, but not trolls. Will not supsect anything other than goblins if goblins take sheep-cows
>>
>>25913795
im still pretty new at this im sorry if i mess some things up..
but can we divide forces? not by much, but like we said send the goblins for the humans, and the trolls for the goblins. what if we took maybe two at the most three of our largest bull trolls and had them leading the goblin charge on the humans, this way Moruk isnt alone, and the goblins will have a bit more pep in their step on the account of not wanting to be eaten/beaten/mauled/ext...
>>
>>25913934
Why not send Papa to kill crush goblins? Papa hasn't fought since dumb-chief was eaten!
>>
Most probably as a way to stroke and repair Gronk’s damaged ego, Ragnar suggested that he demonstrate his divine mastery of fire in front of the whole clan. Somewhat grudgingly, Gronk agreed. The trolls were all summoned to the temple, pulled off hunting and scouting missions to witness Gronk’s power. Murok was especially interested, not having ever seen the Big Papa wield this arcane force. In his heart, Moruk didn’t truly believe he could. He kept it well hidden, but he wasn’t entirely sure whether Gronk was as godly as the tribe seemed to believe. Gronk began by hurling fire balls of varying sizes across the temple, scouring marks into the walls. This cured Moruk of any doubts he might of had regarding Gronk’s magic. Slowly but surely, Gronk worked through all the spells he knew, ending on a high note. Privately, he had worked on creating constructs of fire. Now he unveiled his work in the form of a burning troll, which he held together for almost a minute before it dispersed.

>Cont.
>>
>>25913978
After this display, an awed silence gripped the temple for several minutes. It was broken when Moruk roared out Gronk’s name. The tribe soon gathered their voices to his, and this barbaric choir made pebbles on the floor vibrate with the force of their devotion. Moruk then ran to the exit, bellowing that they must fetch tribute for their glorious leader. The temple was soon empty, apart from the goblins, Ragnar and Gronk. It was now that Gronk choose to broach the subject of Ragnar’s powers. While a little hesitant with some of his answers, Ragnar told Gronk his most serious limitations and strengths. In essence, he could affect wood, stone and earth. The larger the quantity of the material he was trying to commend, the harder it was. Shattering the gates of the mine would be beyond his power, but forcing them to open might not be. When Moruk and the trolls returned, they were laden with goat carcasses and breathing heavily. Within a few hours, they had gathered more than the tribe usually did in a week. Personally, Moruk was trying to make up for his private doubt.
>>
>>25913978
Did we ever give the goblins a private place to get their freak on?

It's not special treatment. It's making it where they don't hate us. They're different. Letting them have their culture and their traditions aren't special treatment. It's letting them be goblins. They can't really be trolls man. They just can't. They aren't big, they aren't strong, they don't regenerate. Let them have their ways and we'll have ours. As long as they're still useful to is then it's fine. Just make sure they dig the holes big enough for a troll to fit comfortably.

Both need a bit of support before I put them through.
>>
>>25914412
Why would they tell our children we're evil?

We'd be giving them a place to stay, protection, privacy. It'd be mutually beneficial. They make us shit, we keep them from getting their shit kicked.

i addition, i feel that the goblin masses under our control are pretty vast, i think we should have them elect a chief, have him talk with us {still pretty low on the food chain, and still essentially slave labor but it may boost their moral "thinking" they have a choice with what we have them do}

Three important missions were undertaken in the following days, two of war and one of peace. Firstly, Gronk dispatched three of his most faithful bull trolls, accompanied by Tak-Tak, to talk to the Dwarves. On one troll’s back, the gold was carried in Moruk’s sack. They were being sent with the strictest of instructions to trade the gold for metal axes, to be copied in size from the tribe’s current arms. The trolls were there to protect the gold, carry the axes and show the strength of the tribe, while Tak-Tak was there to do the talking and keep both sides of the meeting calm. The little goblin had been feeling forgotten and unappreciated since Ragnar arrived, and even more so when Moruk’s goblins returned. They paid no attention to him and didn’t acknowledge his authority in any way. But Gronk had promised that would all change if he was successful in securing the axes. He would be chief of the goblins once again.

Back at the temple, Gronk was organising the tribe into war formations. In one, he placed Moruk and his goblins, as well as the most promising of the other goblins. In the other, he organised all the bulls, himself and Ragnar. This group would smash the new camp, restocking on the slaves and reminding the world who ruled these mountains. He was sending Moruk on a mission towards Märlas. He would raid caravans and outlying farmsteads, primarily using the goblins. Whenever one died, their body would be left as a sign of who had done this. It was Gronk’s fervent hope that the inhabitants of Märlas would blame the goblins, and not seek further into the mountains. It would also serve to gather information about the south lands and gather supplies.

The other group would raid the goblin camp as soon as they could make it there. Gronk would start the night attack with a rain of fire, Ragnar supporting by destroying as many of their fortifications as he could. It owuld be a bloody night followed by a red day.

>>25915132
It took half a week’s travelling to reach the site of the camp, but when they did it was a sight to behold. Since Moruk had been there, they had raised their walls far higher than before. To the south, there was no wall and to the north was a gate. There was tree no cover to the south, so the tribe couldn’t sneak close that way. The gate looked large and heavy, but Ragnar believed he could open it. One of the young bulls had a different plan. This specific young bull was named Grellak, and was Gronk’s first born son. Although this meant little to most troll’s, being the first son of the chosen of the mountain placed serious pressure on a young troll. Now he believed he had found a way to prove his worth. His fur was a light creamy colour, not dissimilar to the surrounding snow. He believed that he could use this advantage to sneak towards the gate and open it alone, allowing Ragnar and Gronk to save their strength for the battle.

Should Gronk listen to his blood, or the shaman?
>>
>>25915221
Have our firstborn sneak in, and cause a distraction while the gate is opened. We get both that way.
>>
>>25915221
none! position our main force in the south where there is no wallz, when we set fire to the walls they will come to us, if we charge into the burning camp our trolls will be at a disadvantage
>>
>>25915221
have him sneak in, when he sets for it, tell ragnar and everyone to stay ready. if grellak fails, you are charging in and ragnar is responsible for opening the door.
tell ragnar you are sure he could do it with his power, but you want to see what your first-born is made of.
>>
>>25915277
Gronk sets the fires, Ragnar keeps their gate closed with his magic, they will have to retreat south, or burn to death
>>
>>25915277
Why burn the camp? If we leave it intact, we can use it as a little second settlement in our growing kingdom. Also, it might be better for farming, being out of the mountains
>>
>>25915306
burn camp means they flee, have no cover, and has to meet us in the open field where we will slaugther them in hand to hand melee
>>
>>25915306
It's covered in snow, it's clearly in the mountains.

Can you guys try and abide by the perimeters for once? Mostly I love the way you come up with inventive solutions, but this is an important choice. It will affect how the tribe sees Gronk and Ragnar, particularly the power balance between the two.
>>
>>25915336
In a field they can swarm us with their numbers. Inside the camp we can force our way to chokepoints where we can slaughter them as they try to push us back.

>>
Grellak set off, keeping low and moving at a steady pace. He had clearly spent much of his life creeping up on things, not that Gronk had paid much attention before now. It was undeniable that the boy was good. Gronk almost lost track of him once or twice, but managed to follow his progress until he reached the gate. Once there, the troll slowly dug his claws into the wall. Very carefully, he began to climb. The wall was about twice his height, so the climb would be a short one. His fur was a completely different colour to the wood though, so he was painfully obvious to see. As he reached the top, he dropped out of sight. Gronk nodded to the trolls, and they all set off at a run. Whether he succeeded in opening the gate or not, they would be discovered. The time to charge was now.

Moving faster and faster, the war band covered the distance in a matter of seconds. As they neared the gate, it began to open. It wasn’t a fast movement, but they were opening, pushing against the built up snow bank. Then they stopped. As the trolls arrived at the gate, they saw blood begin to pool and spread through the snow through the gap. Gronk gestured to the gate, which had been opened only a little way, and several trolls strode forward. They dug their claws in and heaved, pulling it out at a steady rate. Inside the camp, someone or something gave a bestial roar and a tumult of voices joined it.

BLOOD FOR THE HORNED RAT! BLOOD FOR BIG PAPA!

Gronk greeted their roar with his own, and called back the trolls. Now he looked to Ragnar. The shaman rolled his shoulder and stretched out one hand, claws extended and pointing at the gate. With a creek, it shuddered. Ragnar twisted his neck to one side with a cracking sound, then thrust his hands forward again. They convulsed once, the tore from their hinges and fell backwards. Ragnar had clearly hoped to crush whatever had killed Grellak, but only succeeded in crushing his corpse. Some metres from where the gate had fallen, a lone figure stood in front of them. It was as tall as a troll, but less bulky. On its head, two horns curled up down. It’s body was covered in gleaming metal armour and it bore an double headed axe in its hands. Blood still dripped from the axe, and its eyes were fixed on Gronk.

All around it, goblins and humans were spilling from their tents in disarray. Some bellowed in shock and ran back in, presumably to fetch weapons. Others took one look and fled. Gronk was glad that Moruk was down in the foot hills, on his raiding mission. He would likely catch any who ran.

With a few words, Gronk summoned a cloak of fire around himself. Where once this would have seemed a mighty achievement, now it was mundane. In one hand, he hefted his axe. It seemed primitive compared to the one the beast carried, but that beast wasn’t Gronk. With a cry that seemed to shake the very mountains themselves, Gronk charged. All around him, the Children of the Mountain charged with him. Ragnar made a gesture and muttered something under his breath, and the nearest humans screamed and fell. Their shields had splintered and impaled them. Then the shaman joined the charge, opting to resort to the traditional troll way of dealing death; strength and fury.

As Gronk approached the creature, he brought up his axe for the first blow f the duel. As it came down, the creature’s axe flew up to meet it. The blades met and it was clear which axe was superior. A large chip was torn out of the stone of Gronk’s axe. For a few moments, they circled and traded blows. While the creature was well armoured and had a better weapon, Gronk was bigger, stronger and was wrapped in twisting, coiling flames. As the fight progressed, Gronk’s axe had chip after chip hacked out of it. As the two combatants shifted, the horned beast suddenly switched to the offensive. It span it’s axe in a pendulum like movement, up and round it’s body. Then it hacked at Gronk’s side, the momentum of the movement granting it far greater strength. Gronk moved his axe to block it, but the metal passed clean through the stone without slowing down. It buried itself in the Big Papa’s torso, almost the entire axe head hidden in Gronk’s guts.

The pain seared, but it was not the pain of fire. Almost as soon as it began, the troll nervous system shut it down and began the healing process. Instead of trying to pull the axe out, Gronk grabbed the beast into a bear hug. When held close, the monster started to scream, Gronk’s cloak of flame cooking him inside his armour. It head butted Gronk and kicked with its powerful legs, but the marked one was resolute. For the crime of wounding him, this creature would burn.

The beast, however, had its own ideas. Still thrashing, it reached to its belt and drew a knife as long as its arm. With one swift movement, it plunged the blade into Gronk’s shoulder. With the muscles cut, Gronk’s grip loosened and the creature broke free. As it stumbled back, it was clear it had been a wasted effort. Its armour was red hot and its fur was still on fire. It staggered around a little before falling to the ground and lying still. Gronk grinned. Fire was truly his most loyal ally.

Pulling the axe out of his side and the knife from his shoulder, Gronk bent down over his fallen foe. He used the knife to slice through the straps of the rapidly cooling armour, before plunging the knife into the creature’s abdomen and digging around. Blood and visceral gore pumped from the still warm corpse, splattering Gronk’s arms and chest. After some moments of searching through the pulped mess, Gronk tore out the creature’s heart. Holding it above his head, he roared out his victory as the blood dripped onto his face. Then he stuffed it into his mouth and ate it. The rest would be consumed later, but there was no doubt who was the victor now.

Free from his combat, Gronk surveyed the battle field. Although taken by surprise, the humans and goblins had held up surprisingly well. Many had died in the first few minutes, most without reaching their arms and armour, but now they were working together to bring down trolls. There was little use of fire, but many trolls were injured enough they had to stay down to recover. Off to Gronk’s left, Ragnar was fighting several humans with metal broad swords, and was being pushed back. To Gronk’s right, a troll had just fallen and three goblins were poised to hack off its head.

Snatching up the bloody, metal axe from ground, Gronk leapt towards his fallen brother troll. With one sweep of the axe, he slew two of the goblins. The third hurled itself down, avoiding the follow up knife slash. It was a temporary victory though, as Gronk merely stamped it to death instead. On the ground, the troll looked up at his leader with eyes clouded by his own blood. He felt his body knitting itself back together and thanked the Big Papa for his life. Originally a member of the Skull Eatas, this troll hadn’t truly accepted Gronk as his chief until this moment. Now he knew that there was only one being fit to rule the mountains; Gronk the Marked.

Ragnar gave a cry of pain which made Gronkäs head swivel towards him. The shaman had raised his hand to try and use magic, but a human had severed two of his fingers. The distraction had proved enough for another to plunge a sword into his chest. Ragnar had ripped the man’s head off, but still faced three men in metal armour, only now he had only one usable hand.

>Decide Gronk's actions (Save Raganar, Kill one human and leave the rest, toss a casual fireball at them, etc.)
>>
By the way, this fight sequence is coming to an end. Soon we'll be back to the normal style of play.
>>

save the shaman
he might be important later
>>
>>25917491
Fire ball. kill and eat ragnar, make it look like an accident.
>>
>>25917579
We can eat him to gain his power, we have learned all we can from him, he's a threat
>>
>>25917491
Kill-kill! Wrap axe in fire-magic, then slice-burn human-meat!

We will have saved two invdividuals, one to keep the skull eatas in line, the other being ragnar who will be more loyal now. Also, he will be more humbled I think. Besides, losing two finger-claws is no big-bad thing for a troll
>>
>>25917580
>kill and eat a troll
>in the middle of a battle
When the other see his mangled corpse, covered in tooth marks, we say 'it was the human'.

Eating him is viable, but it won't look accidental.
>>
Rally whoever is close by to save the shaman. Crush the humans within our grasp!
>>
>>25917614
They'll grow back pretty quickly, but it's a painful process.
>>
>>25917614
Not right now ofcourse, leave the eating till the battle is done, say it is a way of honoring him.
>>
>>25917619
We must keep Ragnar alive for now. He will die when he is no longer useful. We could use him to teach others a bit of common-speak.

Also, if possible, snatch those two fingers for eating. We might be able to gain an inkling of his power from those fingers, and start quaking earth-dirt
>>
>>25917491

Save Ragnar. He's done well enough on his own, and I'm willing to gamble on him being a powerful and loyal ally in the future.
>>
>>25917665
The options when we took ragnar in were to kill him and eat him, or keep him and eat him later, he must be eaten, we know his words, we just need his power.
>>25917676
The entire thread agreed with betraying him yesterday.
>>
>>25917491
I like how in this fight we've got decisions. I was the one who said "Bite off his willy!" last time :P
>>
>>25917491
grab a big weapon/wood/stone and throw to the ones attacking ragnar. then go kill some of them, that should give him enough time to heal and get back into the war.
>>
>>25917712
>he must be eaten
NO.
if we decide not to eat him, then he does not get eaten. simple.
and thread was never in agreement of eating him.it was just discussion and never a vote.
>>
>>25917715
Yes, I had a very specific vision for the last fight. I wanted to make sure everything happened exactly as I planned it, but I realise now that it alienated the players a bit. Next time I do a boss fight, I'll write most of it out before hand then let people interact with the finishing sequence.

>>25917712
When was that? I don't really remember.
>>
>>25917770
>>25917712
Scratch that, I remember now.
>>

Straight up save him. This new axe should let us cleave and tear and make it impressive. We have become a goddamn ballistic missile made of flesh, fire, and fury.
>>
>>25917790
And to think you wanted to bargain with the dwarves.

It seems to be 7 to 1 in favour of saving the resident shaman, so motion passed.

I don't really know what you want to throw at them. An axe?

I agree with the rest.

The axe works. We could always retrieve it.
>>
>>25917905
Fine throw the axe...

>>
>>25917977
thats why i proposed throwing a big wood, stone or some weapon (not our superior axe) around us. even if they hit ragnar a bit, he wont be killed by them
>>
>>25917977
charge in
>>
>>25918023
Unless you throw it so hard it cuts off his head, it's unlikely to kill him either way. I was more thinking that you might miss entirely and look a bit silly.

>>25917991
Support for a full frontal charge?
>>
>>25917977
Fine charge in with the axe.
>>
>>25917977

In that case, charge in with the axe and fight back to back with Ragnar. We don't want to risk appearing incompetent after all this success.
>>
>>25918047
lets roll the dice and take our chance. where is the fun otherwise. in this mess of a war in a crowded camp, even if we miss them its likely to hit something. and we can save ragnar afterwards in either case. if he dies, he wasnt strong enough to live, so can become our strength instead.

I really wanted to play skaven. So, now I'm acting out the inner skaven in Gronk.

Now, write-tell story OP!
>>
Another mighty howl escaped Gronk’s blood matted lips, and he sprinted towards the injured Ragnar. His axe sliced down like the avalanche that removes a whole settlement. One second the human was standing over Ragnar with his sword raised, the next he was folded over himself on the floor some metres away. His torso was partially caved in and his breast plate had a rend in it. The other two backed off, trying t keep their heads when faced with a blood drenched troll wielding an axe almost as tall as they were. As Gronk hacked the head off one, the other tried to run. Gronk was about to give chase, when a spear flew past him and impaled the man. Looking back, Gronk saw Ragnar’s hand upraised and felt the tingle of nearby magic. Ragnar nodded his thanks before collapsing into a healing sleep. He would awaken after a few minutes, but the battle would be over by then.

All around him, goblins and humans were dying or being knocked down. Trolls that had been previously downed were picking themselves up and rejoining the fight. As the last fighting humans died, a cheer rang out from the mouths of all conscious trolls. The battle was won, now it was time to count the cost and tally the loot.

>Should the prisoners (and minotaur body) be taken back to the temple first, then some trolls sent back to retrieve the weapons, armour and supplies

or

>Should the weapons and valuables be scavenged, then the prisoners be taken back.

Prisoners first, then supplies.
>>
>>25918307
>Should the weapons and valuables be scavenged, then the prisoners be taken back.
Weapons.

We can always take more prisoners. Leave some to guard them.
>>
>>25918307
Prisoners/maybe-slaves-maybe-food should be taken back first. Extra weapons and armor are really handy, but not exactly critical for a troll. We don't want any survivors fleeing and letting people know the storm that's going to break. Not yet.
>>
>>25918346
Prisoners can run away, weapons can't.

Prisoners.
>>
>>25918411
These trolls are due a celebration. If we leave a few behind to guard prisoners, they wont exactly be happy, and they won't very good at something so passive. Weapons we can leave unattended and every one of Poppa's chiluns can share in the glory.
>>
>>25918463
What was wrong with your last post?
>>
>>25918485

I misread the question. I thought we were sending a few back with the first choice, while everyone else stayed to guard the second, rather than the other way around.

Same choice either way.

It took Gronk less than an hour to marshal his trolls and the prisoners into a marching column. By that time all the trolls were either upright and moving, or dead. The casualties on the troll side of the engagement were very low. Only Gronk’s son and one other troll had died, the latter from being beheaded by a human long sword. The goblins and humans, however, had lost almost sixty men and almost as many had been taken prisoner. Most of the bodies were left, only those who had died in worthily were dragged back to the temple. Among these were the Minotaur, both trolls, the humans who had fought Ragnar and a goblin that had carved out the eye of one of the trolls with nothing but a dagger. Some few weapons were quickly scavenged by the trolls, but most were left where they had fallen.

When the party reached the temple, the prisoners were forced into one corner and guarded by a few of the trolls. A great feast was held that night, with many carcasses devoured by the trolls. Gronk himself ate his son and the Minotaur, and something else. While no-one was looking, he chewed and ate Ragnar’s severed fingers. Maybe now he would master the magic of the earth. The next day, life would be resumed as usual, as Moruk and Tak-Tak were yet to return from their respective missions.

maybe i'll see you. maybe wont. i shouln'd drink this much.

Should the prisoners be given equal rights to the current slaves? Or should the slaves be made superior to them for now?

Choose two actions.
>A: Hunt/Gather (Mountain goats, Goblins and small hominids, Wood, Stone)
>B: Worship (The Big Papa)
>C: Scout (N, E, S, W)
>D: Research/produce, via goblin slaves or Ragnar (Troll weapons, Troll technology, Magic)
>E: Train (Melee, Ranged, Other)
>F: War (specify who/how/where)
>G: Diplomacy (specify who/how/where)

>Children of the Mountain
>Big Papa: Gronk the Marked, Great Devourer, Ash eyes, Fire stopper and Flame fist.
>Shaman: Ragnar Stone Gobbler, master of earth magics.
>Scout: Moruk the cunning, expert fighter and hero of the goblins.
>Population: 54 Trolls (8F, 42M, 2M, 0F cubs)
>Slaves: 48 Goblins (10F, 25M, 7M 6F children)
>Prisoners: 34 Goblins (30M, 4F) 23 Humans (22M, 1F)
>Magic known by Gronk: Fire ball, Fire armour, Fire weapon
>Gronk’s Equipment: Bear skin cloak, Metal axe
>Troll Technology: Rock Bags, Primitive axes
>Goblin Technology: Stick throwers, spears
>Resources: Wood, Goats, Stone (Goats produce meat and milk every turn)
>Food: Abundant , ubiquitous if the slaves are also on the menu
>>
>>25918864
>the slaves be made superior to them for now
D and B
>>
>>25918901
Research/produce what specifically?
>>
>>25918864
Slaves should be made superior to them for now.

D & B research magic. CUZ ZAP MUTHAFUCKA.
>>
>>25918864
>they should be superior for now.
>B: its only fitting after that war.
>E: train melee for trolls and ranged for slaves.
>>
>>25918901
Sorry about that. Research Weapons
>>
>>25918864

First slaves should be the only ones with privacy rights for now. Let the others know their place for a while. And maybe we should keep the gnome and human slaves separate for the most part.

B. Worship the Big Papa.
C. Scout past the destroyed goblin encampment. See if there's any reactions nearby.
>>
>>25918964

God damn it. I mix up gnome and goblin in the same damn post.
>>
>>25918864
Worship the papa,
Also the prisoners must prove their loyalty... perhaps the female human can do that in another way.
>>
>>25918962
I will just elaborate on that score; weapons cannot advance without access to a smithy or equivalent. Without a smithy, some advanced tools and some metal, you've gone as far as you can with weapons.

Another friendly reminder, Tak-Tak was sent to get axes from the dwarves. If he succeeds, you've got axes. If not, you've got a perfect reason to attack the dwarves.
>>
>>25919044
If he suceeds we attack the dorfs with axes, also trolls should pronounce dwarf as dorf.
>>
>>25919064
But I'm not a troll, I'm some form of all seeing story teller. Feel free to pronounce it that way though.
>>
>>25919044
Then I change my vote to train in melee
>>
>>25919095

I'll go with that too, since there's not much interest in scouting.
>>
>>25919095
>>25919121
This swings the vote to a consensus on worship, and three votes on train melee. I'll start writing the update for that, but it's going to e the last I'm afraid.
>>
>>25919156
Well it's been a good thread.
>>
>>25918784
Make tak-tak the Head slave in charge of every slave. Therefore he gets some incentive to stay as a slave for the trolls appealing to his base desire to become chief. This also comes to the added benefit of seeing the trolls as protectors of his people instead of just captives
>>
>>25919199
Good idea but Tak-Tak is somewhere near the dwarf mine right now.
>>
>>25919247
once... or if he gets back...
>>
>>25919273
Precisely. No point giving him titles if he never makes it back.
>>
After the great feast, Gronk made an announcement. He decreed that all those slaves that had been taken in the first raid were now considered to be superior to the new arrivals. Only they were allowed to use the breeding tent, and only they were allowed to use weapons. He also had the stick throwers moved to the other end of the temple from the prisoners. While not deadly to a troll, they could be painful nuisances. The days following were thick with feasts and worship. The traditional way of worshipping was to bring gifts to the Big Papa or to shout his name from the highest point of the mountain. A new idea was brought forward by the young bulls, who wished to display their strength and skill before Gronk. They spent time wrestling for his amusement, sometimes until one troll was a bloody mess on the floor.

The rest of the time was spent honing the tribe’s already formidable combat skills. Hours were spent using the weapons that had since been retrieved for the ruined camp. Most were too small for trolls, but some of the larger weapons were used to replace the stone blades on the tribe’s axes. This made the weapons lighter and sharper but somewhat less secure, as Ragnar was unable to bind the metal to the wood as he had the previous versions. Some days the higher ranking goblins were taken out into the snows to train with the stick throwers. They quickly became frighteningly accurate, but were still slow to reload. Ammunition was not a problem, as many bolts had been recovered from the ruined camp.
