Wearing his new bear skin cloak, Gronk spent much of the next few days listening and talking with Ragnar. Tak-Tak was now almost obsolete, as he knew almost nothing about magic. His only skill was his knowledge of the common tongue and troll speak, and Ragnar is a better translator. Gronk’s studies progressed much faster under his new teacher, but earth spells seemed to elude him. Try as he might, he was unable to manipulate the power. On the other hand, his studies in fire magic were proceeding in leaps and bounds. After only a week with Ragnar, he was able to create a cloak of fire that didn’t burn him and a club that burned like an inferno.

Deciding to make sure he knew more about the dwarves than they did about him, Gronk dispatched several trolls to scout out the area around the mine. He also issued strict instructions that they were not to hunt while in the dwarf’s area, in case it gave away their presence.

On the day before the scout’s left, the prodigal son returned. Moruk swaggered into the temple, flanked by four of the goblins sent with him. He looked far bigger then when he had left, and bore a thick, rope like scar across his torso. Slung across his back was a bag, similar to those used by the tribe but made of softer, stronger material. It contained bars of a shiny material Moruk and Ragnar called ‘gold’. Apparently it was valued quite highly in the south lands. Moruk had many tales of his adventures, claiming to have gained the scar from a human with a burning sword. Each of the goblins he had brought back looked lean and hard, as fearsome as a goblin can be. They all had stick throwers and goblin sized swords. Moruk said they had taken them from a goblin encampment they had found some way south of ‘Ead Smasha. They had crept in during the night and stolen the gold and weapons. These goblins were clearly fanatically loyal to Moruk, as they had chosen to follow him rather than rejoin their own kind. This goblin encampment was thought to be the replacement for the one raided so very long ago. There were still many scores of goblins in it, seeking their enslaved kin. Moruk also confirmed the presence of Märlas, the human city.

The trolls are going to war!

Looks like train melee and research weapons. This will be the final update.

When the new scouts returned, they related the layout of the dwarf area as best they could. They said there were two entrances, one large and one small, on two different sides of the mountain. They had dubbed the mountain ‘Gold find’ in honour of the shiny new material. The dwarves kept everything they owned underneath, only using the surface as somewhere to make fires and dump waste. There were great piles of shattered rock littered throughout their territory, higher than a troll. Goats and other animals were abundant there, as the dwarves seemed to hunt very little. The larger entrance was a huge affair, larger by far than the temple. The great doors were wood inlaid with a black hard material, called ‘iron’. The smaller entrance was rarely used and only located by accident. It was a small door, not big enough for a troll and far higher up than the other entrance.

In the days that followed this new, Gronk ordered new weapons forged and a training regime to be implemented. He had Moruk’s goblins show the other slaves their new found skills, even as Moruk demonstrated his to the trolls. Moruk was faster and stronger than any of the bull trolls, easily spinning away from every attack they made. He took on three or more of them without much trouble and soon adapted to using a club while fighting. The new clubs had slabs of sharp rock in place of tips, like large flints. Ragnar said they reminded him of ‘axes’ a human weapon. These trollish ‘axes’ were undeniably deadly, cutting great chunks out of whatever they were directed against.
