Except maybe you aren't Anomaly? Today is the day we figure out what to do with the timeline.

See, the problem is that Anomaly just skipped several months of the timeline after getting her head cut off. This is a problem because another dude has been running Fire Daemon Quest off-site, which runs in the same setting at the same time, and we've been working together to try and bring the two timelines together at some point. Except now FDQ has *months* before it catches up with TDQ.

So. Before the quest can continue, we need to figure out how that works.
>>
>>25893639
Yeah I figured we'd have to sort something out regarding that. So what's the plan then?
>>
The idea that was first batted around would be that Tallorn could just take over as being the main character. He is much easier to play as, since the audience built him to be a character who does stuff they actually know how to use rather than all kinds of sneaky indirect shit that has typically been extremely unpopular in actual play despite all the support it got at chargen.

On the other hand, people who are actually following this quest (judging by archive votes we've either got an extremely dedicated samefagger or a lot of lurkers on this quest) have never even heard of Tallorn before. It would be one thing for him to show up and Anomaly to be in the exact same situation, unaware of what's happened with him and in need of being caught up. It's another to be dumped into a story halfway through where this guy you've never heard of is the main character.
>>
So what's the question here?
>>
>>25893840

Mostly "do we switch to Tallorn as protagonist or not?"
>>
>>25893988
Yo TM, figured I'd throw up my name in case anyone has questions about Tallorn and whatnot.

I'm Vis, the dude TM mentioned was running FDQ offsite.

I had an idea that you might like. Why don't we let people run as Tallorn for the period when Anomaly is down and out from being beheaded, and then let them decide which protagonist they prefer at the end of the affair? That way they can figure out which of the two is more favorable.
>>
>>25893988
Well, personally I wouldn't like to abandon Anomaly, dementation is a fun as hell power, even if you think we haven't got a clue how to use it.
>>
>>25894066
Who is this Tallorn fellow, and how does he tie in with Anomaly?
>>
>>25894306

Tallorn is the daemon of the volcanoes in the region. And yes, there are volcanoes in the region. You'll see some of that once you get into the more mountain-y parts of Margell down south. In any case, he's a daemon peer of the Sun who was Anomaly's ally in the last war against Dominion. Released from his oubliette recently, he's been bumping around Tulivinen trying to hammer together the old alliance. He ran into Olberek, freed Goralin, a Stone daemon of the mountain range who broke Stone's usual neutrality policy to side with Tallorn since their concepts are so closely linked, and he has recently brought down the hellish fury of Razag ontop of himself so he's heading for the hills last I heard.
>>
>>25894306
Good question. Tallorn's a Sun Daemon that Anomaly worked with a couple hundred years ago before she got locked away by Razag. He's Daemon Peer of the volcanoes within the vast mountain range that pretty much bisects the continent.

Tallorn's pretty ancient even by Daemon standards, being several million years old due to the nature of his concept spawning when this world was still in its formative stages of tectonic movement and such. Alongside him his friend of Stone named Goralin has watched over the peaks of the land, also a Peer like Tallorn. Those astute readers among you might recognize Goralin's name way back from Guille Fortress in TDQ, as Girdin made a bet with him regarding the war between alliances.

Since Anomaly sided with the Sun Alliance back during the first war for Dominion's control of the land, Tallorn/Goralin and her worked together to hold back the tide alongside other Peers from the alliance. However as you're aware, this eventually failed when everyone was hunted down by Razag. Tallorn was imprisoned within the mountain range a hundred years after Anomaly was defeated on Dorrik.

As for Tallorn himself, he's a natural leader to many Daemons within the alliance and well respected for his honorable views and strategies with Goralin at his side as friend and advisor. Tallorn once possessed a great deal of power due to his age and practice of his abilities, but he lacks the breadth of Talents that Anomaly possesses due to her being a Noble.
>>
>>25894531
Well isn't that convenient. Oh well, I suppose that's the short version of what's actually happened in FDQ though.
>>
>>25894531
To expand upon this in any case, there's a few things I'd like to add. Tallorn defeated the vast majority of Koril's forces that were sent after his party in Tulivinen and is currently fleeing the area due to Razag's impending arrival at hearing that particular piece of news.

Tallorn's committed himself to trying to do something bizarre and unheard of before as well. That would be uniting Sun and the remnants of Sky in the region to gain the edge that Sun lacked in the last war against Dominion. To this end, he sought out the Peer of Decay imprisoned in Tulivinen and managed to broker a ceasefire between the two alliances for the time being after some tense negotiations.

For that reason, Tallorn has been considering using Anomaly as a mediator between the two Alliances due to her neutrality, though he despises working with her due to her whimsical and errant behavior. Goralin's much of the same mind. Last he heard from Olberek, she was headed to Margell to stir up trouble, and since he knows some of his Sun vassals are locked up in the mountains there he figured he might as well kill two birds with one stone.
>>
>>25894744
That sounds pretty neat. If it'll help keep the timeline in one piece I would mind Tallorn being the temporary protagonist.
>>
>>25894869
wouldn't*
>>
>>25894744
What sort of talents and powers does Tallorn have that makes him so different than Anomaly though?
>>
>>25894935

Anomaly's big Talents are Tenebriety, Obfuscation, and Dementation. This makes her a stealth character first and foremost. Tallorn's big Talents are Pyromancy, Celerity, and Majesty. So he's a combat-oriented type with leadership skills as utility. Since most of Anomaly's successes have come in fights and most of her failures have come in stealth and intrigue, this is probably a lot more optimal for the audience.
>>
>>25894989
Now that you mention it, it does seem like that's the case sometimes. I really don't want to drop Anomaly as the MC, but seeing what this daemon is like might be a refreshing change of pace I admit. What all needs to be done then?
>>
>>25895104

The consensus seems to be that switching to Tallorn for Chapter IV would be neat, so we'll probably do that. In which case all that really needs to happen is for me to work out a good way to get started that introduces players who have otherwise never heard of Tallorn before into who this guy is, who his friends are, and what he's getting up to.
>>
>>25894066
I wouldn't object too loudly to a temporary switch.
>>
>>25895273
That dreadful feeling of another hiatus is creeping up on me. How long will you need this time OP?
>>
>>25895312

The entire quest is planned out, in its entirety, right now. The point of the hiatuses is to make sure I don't get exhausted with running things, not because I need a lot of time to figure things out. So give me, like, an hour to think of an introductory scene for Tallorn that'll introduce his friends one at a time (the way they were in the original FDQ) rather than all 3 of them at once.

I'll go ahead and say quest officially back on at 18:00 server time. Unfortunately that doesn't give us a ton of time to run before I have to leave, but oh, well. With an easier character to play with we should pick up speed anyway.
>>
>>25895345
Okay OP, apologies if I sounded insulting there. I understand how easy it is to burn out on things.
>>
>>25895345
Alrighty then. It'll be neat to see how this pans out.

I'll be around on the IRC if you need to clarify anything for the transition regarding Tallorn and co.
>>
Where exactly IS FDQ being run? Are there any archives of it?
>>
>>25895810
I've been running it on the IRC channel for a couple of people that have been interested in the idea. It was originally just run as a test drive of the concept of a parallel quest while TDQ was on extended hiatus.

I have a 133 page Word Document archiving the entirety of Chapter 1 that I can upload somewhere, but it isn't super organized and probably will be a pain to navigate because of that.

Option's still there though if you're interested.
>>
You are Tallorn of the Fiery Peaks! Released from your oubliette by an eruption that killed enough stuff nearby, you are now in the Mire, a vast stretch of swamp in Tulivinen. Once, this place was one of the last strongholds of the Sky alliance in the region, but now you have hammered together an alliance, however temporary, with the Primordial Enemy to repel the upstart Dominion from the region. You are millions of years old, a diabolic creature made of obsidian with veins run through with lava. Though living, your form is devoid of flesh.

And previous followers of FDQ may notice the implication of being devoid of flesh is that you cannot really Fleshshape yourself back together no matter how many powers you quicken. So we need to do something about that, first off.
>>
>>25896301
In FDQ, it was my impression that Vis' interpretation of powers weren't always the same as yours. Any difference we should be aware of. Also, it might be useful to run over the powers Tallorn have for those who weren't in FDQ.
>>
>>25896301

Okay, so here's what we are going to do about this conundrum. I have rolled up a random other Fleshshaping power. You can either keep Regeneration (called Mend earlier) or instead take:

>Chimera: You can combine different creatures together, though the results may be unpredictable.

For reference:

>Regeneration: You can regenerate your flesh.

Note that that's your flesh only. There's an upgrade that lets you do it to others, but that's a whole separate power.
>>
>>25896406
Does Chimera make whatever the hell you combine your minion, or do you need something else for that?
>>
>>25896406
How does chimera work, practically speaking. You just pick any two creatures you have around and mash them together to make something new?
>>
>>25896406
For anyone wondering what the heck TM is on about, he's clearing up the issue of Tallorn not being affected by Fleshshaping. During the Chapter End the players picked up a regen power from their newly-quickened Fleshshaping Talent with the express purpose of keeping it as a defensive power.

Since it no longer works as intended, it needs to be swapped out lest we have a useless power.
>>
>>25896387

I'm working on converting the sheet right now.
>>
>>25896460

Take two animals, mash them together, and hope something good pops out. It takes about eight hours to combine them. You can continue adding more creatures to the chimera for an extra hour each, although going past two gives ever-increasing odds of creating something horribly unstable.
>>
>>25896544
On a scale of 1 to 10, how much would a Nature daemon hate you for practicing this power?
>>
>>25896579

Depends on the daemon, but on average probably around a 5 or a 6. They'll be extremely suspicious of you just for having it (most peers don't have powers quickened from enemy daemons to begin with), and warping animals like that is usually their schtick.

That said, Tallorn is not Anomaly. He's a high-ranking daemon in the Court of the Sun, so Nature daemons have to give him some benefit of the doubt unless they're of similar rank or they're real mavericks.
>>
>>25896646
Well, here's the thing. We can hang on to Regeneration in the fanciful hope that we get extremely lucky with our Minor level of choices per chapter and get the "Use it on others" upgrade.

Or we can drop it and take Chimera in the event that there's some odd situation it'll be useful.
>>
>>25896517

And conversion is complete. Behold, Tallorn:

Tallorn of the Fiery Peaks
Rank: Common
Talents: Pyromancy+, Celerity, Majesty, Clarity-, Fleshshaping-
Powers: Fireball (Pyromancy), Burning Hands (Pyromancy), Radiance (Pyromancy), Catalyst (Pyromancy), Fireproof (Pyromancy), Dragon's Breath (Pyromancy), Too Fast By Half (Celerity), Lightning Precision (Celerity), Marathon Runner (Celerity), Charm (Majesty), Suggestion (Majesty), Extraordinarily Persuasive (Majesty), Piercing Gaze (Clarity)

Fireball: You can shoot out a bead of fire that becomes an explosive blast spreading out for dozens of feet in all directions.

Radiance: You glow with a fiery light whenever you will it.

Burning Hands: When you will it, your grasp is white-hot, melting armor and incinerating your enemies.

Dragon's Breath: You can produce a continuous stream of fire. Not necessarily from your mouth.

Fireproof: You are immune to all but the most extreme heat.

Too Fast By Half: You are about half again as fast as normal, giving you a decisive edge on mortals.

Lightning Precision: Your agility and precision are able to keep up with your speed, so you suffer no loss of skill when moving at high speeds

Marathon Runner: You can keep your Celerity powers active for days at a time.

Charm: You can make someone your friend just by looking into their eyes.

Suggestion: You can force someone to follow a single spoken command so long as you have eye contact with them. They will remember hearing the command.

Extraordinarily Persuasive: Your Majesty powers can affect daemons as well as mortals

Piercing Gaze: Your eyes can pierce magically induced darkness or blindness and mundane obstacles.
>>
>>25896447

I think there's a word missing from this question. I don't understand it. You need to have both creatures to combine them, if that's what you mean?
>>
>>25896747
Oh cool, we didn't get much changed around. Fireball seems to be stronger while Suggestion got a fair limiting condition slapped on it.

Does Radiance still emit actual flames from our body or is it just a lightshow?

Marathon Runner affects our base stamina for non Celerity stuff too right?

By eye-contact does that mean you have to be in visual range, staring them down, or something else?
>>
>>25896772
His question makes perfect sense. When you use it to create something, will it obey you, or have you just made a weird creature you can't necessarily control?
>>
>>25896850

Oh, right, that. No, unlike most Fleshshaping powers, a Chimera may or may not do what you want. Standard practice is to take a mortal who already likes you (either a pet who's loyal or a sentient who has reasons to answer to you) and combine it with something else, making sure to keep the head of whatever it is that likes you.

>>25896845

Radiance is just a lightshow.

Marathon Runner means that your running stamina is proportionate to your max Celerity speed, but you still need to sleep just as often and it doesn't change the speed with which magic drains you. It does mean you take slightly longer to wear out in battle, assuming you aren't wounded.

Eye contact means your eyes looking at their eyes.

Also, I left Catalyst out entirely:

Catalyst: For an extra investment of energy, you can make your fires burn hotter and expand even if they have no fuel with which to do so.
>>
>>25896963
That could still be useful if we, say, fused a mortal with a bear to give a follower some brawn and tankiness. Might be useful somewhere down the line perhaps.

I'd say we take that over Regeneration since we cant bank on the use it on others upgrade showing up with just one pick per Chapter (for the moment).

So then, we're in the Mire.
>>
>>25897025
I agree, we should take this one instead of hoping to eventually get something that will allow us to heal others. As useful as that would be, actually getting it anytime soon is a slim chance.

The Mire. A place that blurs the line between ground and ocean. Piles of mud home to dull greenery stick out of the murky waters only to vanish into their depths again at a moment's notice.

You've overcome most of Koril's lesser daemonic forces, leaving Dominion's grip on the region weak, their armies scattered. It doesn't take a genius to deduce that Razag will come in response, however. Your small army of daemons has scattered, some heading to the coasts to try and locate the still-imprisoned Water peer, some into the depths of Tulivinen, to head amidst the trees there, others headed up towards Arkas to hide in the mountains and perhaps disrupt things there. You and your pack will head towards Margell.

Razag isn't just going to wander around randomly hoping to bump into you. He'll be tracking you, and you'll be his highest priority target. If he catches up, you don't stand the slightest chance of victory, especially not when you're wounded from the previous battle.

>travel together, or split up and meet at Margell?

>how do you plan to cover your tracks while moving?
>>
>>25897475
We need to talk to Goralin, because his tracks will be the easiest to find. Goralin at least needs to head back to the mountains where he can find sturdier rock to lose pursuers in familiar terrain. Alternatively he could make for the ocean and travel to Margell underwater where it's unlikely that they'll be able to pick up on his trail with so many of Koril's underwater forces being dead currently.

Ask Goralin for his thoughts on which of those two options seems preferrable, and then we can decide if we want to send any companions with him.
>>
>>25897475
Does "your pack" still include the same daemons from the end of FDQ? If so, I guess anyone who wasn't there would need to have those introduced in that case. As for covering tracks, perhaps moving through the mountains would help? The friendly stone daemons there can probably help out with tunnels and such to make us hard to follow. Just gotta hope they won't tell our pursuers which way we went, then.
>>
>>25897653
>>25897584

We're getting to those guys.

Goralin, however, your greatest ally, the daemon of the mountains, is a horned stone humanoid whose skin is covered in webs of obsidian. "I know the mountains better than the shores," Goralin says, "but none of our group is a Water daemon who might know the shores the way I know the mountains. And Koril needs only one aquatic daemon of his own to track you through the waters. We cannot hope to have destroyed all of his forces in the battle. I recommend the mountains."

Goralin and you have a curious kinship. He, the daemon of the stone of the mountains, and you the daemon of the fire within them. The destruction of one concept would be the destruction of the other, and thus he stands with you despite being a member of the nominally neutral Court of Stone.

>wat do?
>>
>>25897888
"I thought as much, perhaps we should all take our chances and travel together through the tunnel network beneath the mountains. Your subordinates should be able to reshape and confuse Razag's trail enough to lose him and his allies...hopefully."

"That of course leaves the question of whom Sierra has gotten around to freeing. Last I heard, she was at the Twin Peaks trying to free those irritable two vassals of mine from their prisons. Leading Razag right to her without warning would be folly. We should consider how to inform her, and by extension Beskir and the others."

I've made reference to a few Daemons that haven't been mentioned yet, but played a vital role in FDQ. Sierra is a Common Stone daemon that is a fervent follower of Goralin, and is currently trying to free as many Sun Daemons as she can.

Beskir is one of our most loyal vassals, the first and probably only vassal she's managed to free since. He bumped into us and we told him to kick out the word about the ceasefire between Sun and Sky so as to not cause any conflict without us around.
>>
>>25898015

And I actually need to go now. We'll try and sort all this mess out next time.
