Another eve, and another tale of the Akuma, Faefnir.
I'm going to need tea for this one..

Our story as it has been told thus far!

Members of Faefnir's family!

And Faefnir's current parameters!

Last time, in our tale...

Faefnir met with the Good Doctor and the Noah of Dreams, The Mad Alice. Questions were asked, and much was answered.
However with all said and dine, Faefnir certainly does feel as though his... odd way about him may leave a bad taste in the Doctor's mouth, causing him to refrain from saying much more of his thoughts..

With Morgan joining the family for tea, Faefnir took it upon himself to discuss the possibility of the church basement with the corrupt Priest James, leading to the introduction of the two Demon-nuns, Josephine(Jacqueline) and Elizabeth(Lisa).
With their aid they hunted the vagrants of the Lakeside, procuring a living test subject for Noah Morgan.
Faefnir however, had a keen interest in the gypsies for whatever reason, and gambled his way into their group with his disguise of Rickton.

With the tasks assigned by the Noah done, the three meet up with the family in the coming evening.. Which could have been the worst possible mistake he could have made.

With Jacqueline and Madeleine meeting and having rather.. similar personalities of the Tart orientation, the drinking floor of the Lady's Rest quickly turned into a striptease contest between the two sensual demons..

With Morgan leaving to start her work right away, Faefnir takes this opportunity to capitalize on this predicament by taking "bets" only to slip out of the encore upon the winner being called.

Visiting Kama in the Family's rented out rooms, Faefnir finds that the demon has an existential crisis to work out.. Faefnir talks her down with kind words and some of his own tears..

Oh dear Akuma, why do you feel so?
>>
You put a hand upon her shoulder and keel next to her, looking up and into her eyes as she begins to calm down, at the very least she's not crying the black tears that you all did in mourning for Ivan... you wish he were here right now.. Your heart heats up with your desire for revenge.. It's only with a deep breath that you calm that feeling and focus on the here, and the now, on Kama...

"Kama.." You begin, and she looks at you, biting her lip to hold back her confused tears.
"I don't think there is any sure way to do it Kama.. Sure, I can make it look easy now and then.. But I've had to try and fail a lot.. I'd say.. that being a leader is a lot like being a mother.. right?" She nods to you, titling her head a bit in the consideration of it.

"Y-yes, that sounds like it w-would be true."
You nod, decisively to her," Yes, indeed, it is true then. You've said it now. Do you think I made a good leader when we first met? When we had first gotten together?" She shakes her head slowly at that, and you continues," Of course not, I barely had a clue what I was doing and suddenly I was the leader, I don't even know why. But here we are, and I've gotten better at it every day along with making sure we're all happy, for better or worse, and even working out my own identity... It's not easy, just like losing Ivan wasn't easy... I still miss him.. I still wish he was here... I couldn't have become what... Who I am now without him watching my back. Hell, I'd be dead if it weren't for him..." And now your oil tears flow.. "We'd all be.. Kama..." hers have started as well, her chest heaving as the oil drains from her eyes slowly.. the most poisonous tears..
She nods her head, acknowledging her name.
>>
"All of these parts of you, all of these desires. There is no reason to choose just one. Look at them all and we'll be here for you to help you. Embrace all these parts of yourself... Remember that you're not just a mother, like I'm not just the leader. I'm also the baker, the friend.
Pursue your other interests, and remember us... you'll be just fine.. The children? The children can take care of themselves. I've seen the way they look at you. They love you, but just the same they're not helpless."

Kama stops her sobbing and looks at you with her eyes wide open.
"L-love?" She touches your cheeks with her hands and stares into your eyes," They... Love?"

You freeze yourself... Uncertain of why you chose that word.. Why.. that word... You rise from your kneeling before her, and she looks up at you, a faint smile appearing on her face," I think.. I know what I want to be called..

"Well then Kama, what is your name?" Your voice is almost flat, stoic. To hide the confusion running through your processors.

With that faint smile,
" Claire. I'd like to be called Claire."
>>
So I've been wondering....what was the special ability of that Level 2 Centaur we killed? It's not like we're ever going to find out now, so...
>>
I've been thinking.

Being surrounded by so many tarts, shouldn't we pick up pie baking?

>>25861235
Maybe we could ask where did that name come from.
"You know, I believe that Claire is a very beautiful name. What inspired your choice?"
>>
>>25861281
We revealed it when we were all sharing stories about what we knew of our hosts' lives.
>>
>>25861270

Ice-Blast Flames

THe blue flames spread and cling, spreading frost and lowering the temperature of what they touch. Upon activation they explode into intense heat, causing horrible damage due to the shift in heat.

It's why our dear Madeleine nearly died despite her heavy armoring.
>>
>>25861310

And yes, if you had somehow befriended it, the ability would have been VERY useful against the Asher..
>>
>>25861310
Yeah, I had actually considered approaching the Akuma to recruit him, but REVENGE comes first.
>>
>>25861281
Well we can do pastries, maybe pie will be level 3.
>>
>>25861327
Can't very well befriend someone who destroyed the family's possessions.
>>
>>25861373
Under what classification of baked goods does pie come under?

>>25861327
It says under the Creation Oven's description that "effects are boosted from level 1." Is the difference abstract, Duke, or is there an actual 'mechanical' difference in power?
>>
>>25861403

Bread's boost was quantifiable as +1 to strength.
It's now +2.

The Baguette is a touch more abstract.

You dream that night again...

You return to that same decrepit wood with the pitch black's sky torpor disturbed by the stars shooting through the sky in arcs and circles of light trails.

The wind blows through the trees in an eerie discordance and the children of shadow have seemingly gone to rest as they are not in your sight.
You hear a song press through this place, words a hollow echo, and no music playing.

Two moons sit upon the sky as before, in either horizon, one a hollow, pallid moon, the other a shining white covered in blood. You notice that they've risen from the last time you were here.

The two figures that were by the black water are not there this time.

>[] Wait for the dream to be over..
>[] Investigate the black water.
>[] Enter the wood of the Shadow children.

Cool. We could get an effective level 4 Strength now.
>>
>>25861441
Duke, I am not sure if you already answered that, but I have a question for you regarding the baguette's power.

Does it only heals and reopen physical wounds?

>[x] Investigate the black water
Due to the fact that all Japanese ghost stories feature water, I'm going with this
>>
>>25861483

Yes, only the physical. you could assign the emotional/mental to another recipe if you'd like.

>>25861508

Ox, and elephant... Further levels begin to resemble non-mammalian.
>>
You look at you human-like body, only to realize that you, yourself are shrouded in shadow.. here.. you aren't even Jacob, or Rickton.. as you look your hands over. The thought occurs that you should try to transform.

You feel for your burning heart that allows you to burn out of the pitiful human flesh, the chainsaw fangs that you could use to tear it asunder.. Yet you feel neither of those things here.
It frustrates you.. Finally in the effort, you conjure a tongue of flame before your visage. The light from the flame is soon extinguished by a harsh wind however, a dark fold shutting out the pitiful flame.

You've never felt this powerless.

The song carries on, though you can't even begin to make out the words. It seems to come from all around you, yet nowhere in particular all at once.

>[] Enter the wood of the Shadow children... Where have they gone?
>[] Wait where you are for this to end... You're scared..
>[] Investigate the pond, is anyone there?

I'd prefer to avoid water, I don't trust it.

I assume that at level 10 we become Asura from Asura's wrath.

It's a dream, nothing can harm us.

>[] (Other) Cry out and sing sing a baking song and move through the motions of making bread too like a dance
>>
>>25861637

>>

>>
>>25861637
[X] Enter the wood of the Shadow children

Hopefully there is still someone there.
>>
I think we should keep what's happening in our mind, the dreams, feelings, and desires, a secret. It would only needlessly worry the Duke if we told him.
>>
>>25861637
>[] Investigate the pond, is anyone there?
>>
You look about this strange place and the hissing wind, the skeletal fingers of the dead trees moving so slowly in time to the gusts... You resolve that you are not okay with this.. You never realized that you weren't powerful here.. Not even the doctor knows about this dream.. not even the doctor..

This? This is unknown..

You seek whatever comfort you can and begin to try humming a baking song only to find you can't quite remember one right now. Did you ever learn one? Surely James Bool had sung one.. or Claire knew one?
Your humming begins to unconsciously follow the tune of the song in this world, and suddenly the discordant music becomes louder.

You look to the wood. They had watched you from there before... You creep forward, and deeper into this alleged rabbit hole. Twigs snap underfoot, and you swear that the branches reach for you.. It takes some time, but eventually the light fades.. Not even the moon can reach you in the thickest part of this wood.

All is dark.

And then a thousand pairs of glowing eyes snap open suddenly. Wide, gleaming grins soon following.

The song becomes so much clearer.

"One was two and two became one.
Yet this time, is that all our fun?
Devils dance till the night's undone."

The faces swirl around you, these children are playing, dancing in the pitch black.

"Innocence a lie,
it causes us to die
Why, oh why...
Wh.. .. .hy..."

The song of the children grows faint..

".ne ..is ..me "

The eyes fade, the music stops, and suddenly you feel yourself falling again, seemingly forever as before...

Your eyes snap away, and your breathing is panicked once more.. These dreams... Why.. Why are you having them?

You look about you, the bed you sleep upon. Madeleine and Schwere are sleeping soundly next to you, Armbrust upon the floor.
Likely it's Kama, Wendel, and Kralle in the other room.

With a look outside, it's an early winter morning the sun's not even up yet.
Your mechanical body doesn't feel tired from the sudden rise..
>>
You need to think of things to do today..

Working a different bakery each day or by week may irritate the bakers. better to just learn from one rather than seem like you're trying to steal their secrets.
>>
>>25862444
Maybe we could use our disguise as the Asher brother, take off the armor, and use that form for the other bakery. We can learn from two places without arousing suspicion!

Unless of course we use a different identity.....

'Course, currently, that just means we can bake at two different bakeries.

I guess their suspicions are actually founded.

bad idea. our asher disguise has been compromised. we have no idea if the crimson cross in this town recognizes Asher, but i don't want to take that chance.
>>

We can totally get a different disguise AFTER we've finished wooing the gypsies, though.
>>
>>25862529
well, yeah. but I think for now we will have to make do with just one bakery

Rising from the bed, your grace allows you to leave without disturbing the other demons in the room. You vaguely recall the time that none of you really slept.. Seems those times date back to when you were all level one.. Yet.. even Armbrust, that's still 1.5 as you recall, is on the floor...
The demon jolts up to sitting, regarding you with a calm expression and a nod,"Sleep well, Faefnir?"
"About as well as any of us really sleep." You say with a roll of your eyes and it's just then that you notice.. Madeleine is ... snoring?
You stare at her a moment, her breathing pattern sounding more like the sawing of logs than what should rightly even BE a snore..
you'll have to tell her about that later.

"Oh, right." You look at Armbrust, realizing that you hadn't spoken with him since yesterday morning," How'd getting into the guard work out? They put you in?"

Armbrust nods carefully, and looks just below your eyes," They want me to return today, though they appreciated my endurance and aim with a crossbow.. I'll need to work on my skill with a cudgel and sword though. Then, the sword is more for going to war rather than stopping thieves. The Crimson I drank with last night is the captain of the guard, as it turns out the Crimson are not tasked with the entire guard of Florin. I'd suspect that it is the same for London and other places... Though, the Crimson overview the guard. food for thought Faefnir?"

You nod slowly, thinking about that... If the guard's alerted, they'll report to the Crimson... but there would be a delay.. And the Crimson wouldn't be responsible for petty crimes with their focus on rooting out demons and apostates.. "Thank you for the information Armbrust, good work as usual."

The demon nods his head, poorly hiding a small smile,"Of course, it is my duty after all."

You leave the room properly and knock on the next one over, opening once you hear a "Come in."
>>
>>25862550
Yup, Armbrust is totally Dutiful.
>>
You see Kama in the room, looking out of the window and out to the lake, the children are still in bed.

"Last night, are you okay?"
Kama doesn't look back to you," Yes, I'm feeling a lot better. Though I am getting that particular itch.. Think the guard would mind if I took of some drunkard's legs?" She punctuates her question with a mad giggle.
"So long as you're keen to not get caught Kama, I-"
"No, no, that's not my name remember, you need to call me Claire. That's my name now, okay? Say, what is a Kama anyway?" She turns back and looks at you, her previously motherly expression gone, her eyes look nearly crazed, like that of a madwoman.
"That, I'm not quite sure... I hope you don't plan to have that kind of expression in public.."

She covers her mouth for a moment, focusing, and pulling it away, the expression of a gentle mother upon her face once more."Ah, is this better, Jacob?"
You nod, "Yes.. that's a lot better. We don't need people to think that you're some kind of insane woman tugging Kralle and Wendel around."
She looks a bit disappointed now, her head down and her eyes looking up at you,"You said they can watch themselves right? Ka- I mean, Claire needs to have her own fun.." Her smile slowly shifts back into that nearly mad look.

>>
>>25862633
Why don't we bring her along with us and ask one of the sisters (Lisa, probably) to help her scratch her itch?
>>
>>25862687
I mean, the two sisters have probably gotten quite skilled at disguising their murders underneath the Crimson Cross' watch. It'd be good to have 'Claire' learn under them for a bit.
>>
>>25862633
I have an Idea. let's take her with us to the church. Let's see how Morgan's experiment went.. if they didn't go so well, and the subject is still alive, maybe we can ask her if the subject needs the lower part of his legs.
>>
>>25862699
that is also a good idea.

You let out a sigh and beckon Claire forth. She cooks her head and walks over to you with just a hint of hesitation, her expression is still a plastered on version of madness.
You grip her cheeks, much to her surprise and knead them with some force.
She presses her eyes shut at the unusual handling," W-what... are.. you.. doing?"

"Fixing your face again," You say plainly, only letting go when her face looks "normal" again.

She touches her cheeks," That kind of hurt.."
"I'll do it again if you show me that face again, you're coming with me today." And turn to leave, expecting her to follow.

"But." She says, and your vision snaps back on her.
"But nothing, we've spent little time together, i'd like to get to know you... Also, your getting a bit bad with your expression."
She fixes her face immediately, and you smile," Good. Come on then." She follows without further complaint.

You hear "Bye, bye Momma Claire." From Wendel and Kralle.

It's time for you to go about your day, Kama in tow.

You and Kama soon find your way to the Graveyard and the church, Edward slowly cleaning off the graves, his expression dead, likely the Doctor's already been in.. you smile..

Claire leans over to whisper into your ear,"Hey, that little old man is a bit ugly isn't he? Why are you smiling at him Jacob?"
You raise your hand to quiet her and whisper back," He is a new addition to our family, a gift from the Doctor. We'll check up on him after our visiting Morgan.

As you make your way around the fence of the graveyard, you soon see the distinct sheen of the red armor of the Crimson, standing before the doors of the church.
Panic sets inside of you for a moment..

And yeah, that would be a good reason for why we would want to enter the church.
>>
>>25863192
exactly, or we didn't know she lived here and we ran into her and had a mini-family reunion.

either way, it's easily explainable
>>
>>25863192
'Course, we may not want to say that Claire lived here. Maybe we should say that we heard from one of our other relatives that our cousin, Claire, had gone to Florin and we, together with our sweetheart, had decided to go there as well so that we could support each other in our new lives.

Then say what Bakanon said about coming to the church to plan our wedding with our sweetie.

There. Cover story.
>>
You look at Claire intently, you can see the nervousness upon her face entirely visible... That will never do for the subtlety required here.
"Claire, look at me."
Her eyes meet yours and you speak slowly and steadily,"' Act normal. We have nothing to worry about if you stay calm and relaxed." She nods at you, almost entranced.
"Yes, Yes, I just need to stay calm. It'll compromise us, yes?"
"Yes, yes, very good."

You grab her hand and the two of you walk right up to the church, your own poker-face on, you hail the guards," Why hello there! What's going on here?"
The Guard to the right answers, a woman, though you wouldn't be able to tell,"The Lord has arrived to speak of funeral preparations. The Lady of the estate suffered a terrible accident the prior evening... A tragedy.." She seems to be keeping something from you..”If you sought to speak with the priest, it will have to wait.”
Your eyes go wide and you run your fingers though your hair in embarrassment with a sigh that carries warm breath," My cousin and I were actually going to speak with Pastor James about a wedding.. My, that is terrible to hear, truly terrible.. What happened?"

The guards both look at the each other through their visors, their shoulders stiff," I'm afraid that I am unaware of the details. It would be improper to gossip of this tragedy." The woman shifts in her armor uncomfortably, as though to work out stiffness.

You feel Claire tremble slightly in your palm with slight excitement and you give her a squeeze to relax her.

You hear nothing from within... Though the Lord is right through these doors...

"Excuse us then, we'll wait for the Lord to be finished, I'm sorry for disturbing your guard-duty." You bow your head politely and pull away Claire, whom looks back to the guards.
"Goodbye, gentle guards..." She says with an almost haunting voice.. A nervous circuit runs through your body at her compromising tone.
You squeeze her hand and pull her away with a bit of hurry.
"We'll be visiting an old friend in a graveyard."

The guard calls back to you," Take care. And remember, that the dead stay dead." The woman says with a clearly icy tone to her voice.

The two of you walk around to the back of the church's rather large graveyard, to find the older Gravekeeper, Edward, recently stopping in his task to regard the two of you with as dead an expression as you've seen.
"Hello there Edward... Do you remember me from yesterday?"
The gravekeeper isn't breathing.. He nods, though it's slow and mechanical. Stopping and stalling. The rest of his body and its movements seems to do well enough, having practiced action. His voice almost groans out,"He..llo... th..ere... De...mon?"

Claire frowns at him with a sheer lack of amusement," Hey, were we all this stiff... and.. weird?"

You stare at the man in turn.. He reminds you of Ivan when you first met him.. Though possibly even more stiff. Could this have to do with his age? Perhaps how long the dead had been away?

How odd...

>>
>>25863595
>the dead stay dead
Is that a common thing that the Crimson say? It'd be a weird thing to say to us. So it'd make more sense if it was some sort of motto they tell the populace of the towns they protect.

>[] Command him to keep his cover as a human (REMEMBER TO BREATHE) and to restrain from killing unless Faefnir or one of the sisters, Jacqueline or Lisa,

We can have Claire take Tucker out to the roads north (what direction did we approach the town from? Opposite of that direction) for a little hunting. We can train up Claire's team as a mother. Make her the trainer of any newborn Akuma we acquire on our adventure.

>>25863666
He's unlikely to have chosen a name for himself yet.
>>
>>25863595
"Not quite this stiff Claire, but you did have a few kills under your belt before I actually met you."

[X] Ask his name, or give him one. Introductions are in order.

I think Gruft would be a good name if he hasn't chosen one for himself, it means Crypt/Vault/Grave/Tomb.

Afterwards tell him that he is a member of our Family now and that he should kill, but command him that he MUST maintain his cover and keep his kills under the radar. Ask him his weapon and specialty, tell him how to properly kill, make sure he knows to breathe.
>>
>>25863595
Tell Claire:

"Yes, Claire. I guess you could say that this is how Akuma children are like."

Then we can segue that into having Kama take him out to the roads to hunt for people to kill; mind you, we should have them target roads that aren't part of a main trade route. We may have to consult with the sisters first on hunting locations.
>>
I'm not particularly inclined to let this one join the family. They may be a useful pawn, but a family member they are not.
>>
>>25863595
let's just ignore him for now, don't order him to do anything with the crimson order this close, if he suddenly leaves right after talking to us, it'll look suspicious. and if Claire leaves with him suddenly, after we said she would wait here with us, it'll look suspicious.
>>
>>25863724
I don't understand your reasons.

That is to say. I think you have horrible reasons.

He's newly minted. He needs to be trained. Think of him as an investment.
>>
>>25863728
It's not as if anyone is suggesting we order the two of them to go out hunting right this very moment.
>>
>>25863595
In hindsight, I wonder if Jesus became an Akuma in this setting.
>>
>>25863761
well, quite a few are suggesting that he go off and hunt by himself right this moment. that'll also look suspicious. I'm just saying nobody leaves until the Lord is done with his business and the Crimson Cross leave.
>>
>>25863811
Alright, let's just say it clearly then.

No hunting until after we finish our business here and the Crimson are out of sight.
>>
>>25863773

Logically, after his death, if someone called him back with Adam's power, he would be be in another body.. the real question would be if he'd fall and call back someone else..
>>
>>25863838
agreed
>>
>>25863838
Also, I just realized that the reason the Crimson are with the Lord must be to stop anyone from approaching him and eating his bread....

We could talk with Kotomine later on. The Lord will probably regularly visit the church to make the preparations for his wife's funeral. So we can hand Kotomine some of our bread (making sure that he understands HE should not ever eat it) to offer to the Lord....
>>
>>25863863
>and eating his bread....

I did not mean to say that. Huh. I meant to say "and making sure no demon tempts him"
>>
>>25863870
Now why would we do a fool thing like that?
Our bread is far superior to any lordly loaf.
>>
>>25863890
Obviously. That's why I said it was a mistake.
>>
"Not quite this stiff Claire.. Though I suppose you could say that this is how Akuma children are like."

You clap a hand on the shoulder of the new demon and get in close with a friendly demeanor.
The thing starts to growl at you, with a viciousness as though it doesn't recognize you.
"Calm down." You whisper with the same command you've used with Claire, and the growling stops abruptly.
With a smile," Good, now what is your killing method?"
The demon looks at you carefully, slowly working out your question," Weap...on... Cold... Very... Cold...." The demon grips its shoulders and pretends to shiver.
You nod, " And your name?"
The demon slowly shakes its head back and forth," Ed... Lis...No.. I... Don't..."

You nod, "Right, you don't have one yet, do you? You'll get one yet, don't worry. Now, for my next order.. You will go back to your home and stay there till nightfall. Do your work here at night. Kama here will pick you up, and the two of you will hunt together, discreetly... Understand?"

The demon nods," Hide.. Night.. Hunt.. with... her..." it points slowly.
"Good. Oh, and remember to breath."
It suddenly takes a deep gasp for air, realizing it hadn't been breathing at all. Some recognition enters its eyes at that, and it gives you a faint smile," Thank... you..."
It begins to walk away to a shack at the far end of the graveyard.

Claire pulls at your arm," You did that to me, didn't you?"
You look to her, the expression she wears.. is one of intrigue, amazement. "Yes, I've done it to you when you couldn't handle yourself. The young need to respect their elders."

Claire nods a few times, a smile on her face," Yes, yes, the young need to respect their elders.. That's interesting... I'll be hunting with that one tonight then?"
>>
>>25864055
I'm not sure of the kind of ideas we've just planted in Claire's head....
>>
>>25864055
"Indeed you will. Do make sure it's discreet.

Teach him well, in many ways he is still a child. Try to keep him out of trouble, I'm trusting you with a very important task, far too many Akuma die young."
>>
"Yes. I'm counting on you to raise it into a fine killer. Hunt away from Florin and on a road different from the one we came in upon." You instruct Claire carefully, and she nods quickly.
"Yes, yes, you can count on me Faefnir, I simply can't wait..."
"You can."
"Yes." She goes a bit quiet.. Being so strict with her isn't much fun...

You enter the largest Mausoleum in the graveyard, marked by "Florin" across the top..

This... is likely the one that Morgan would be using for space... Now.. who could bear the name of the Town?

You shrug it off, and push the way open with a bit of strength, descending down stairs to go into the ancestry chamber. You see Morgan, studying a bound individual by candle-light. Foul magicks hang upon air, thick with the presence of Dark-matter.

Upon a slab of stone, the vagrant that Jacqueline had abducted is there, bound and with his Cranium cut off, the grayish pink of his brain exposed, and the man still alive, breathing calmly.. Likely just as sedated by whatever forces the Noah's conjured.

She looks over to you with a raised eyebrow, almost ignoring the subject as she reads a book in the faint light,"Ah, hello there Faefnir, come to visit, have you?"

You bow before her," Yes, my Lady. I was concerned for your welfare, and the nature and progress of your study..."

She flips a page of the book in her hand and roughly jams a finger coated in dark matter into the brain, causing the body to convulse, and an arm to raise,"This is the nature, I seek a way to control humans with dark matter. If we can plant such seeds in humans, we'll have less need of demons such as yourself... That is, at least for infiltration. We'll never stop needing you as weapons.." She looks up to you, eyes meeting yours with a smile," Though I'll always be fond of your presence, Faefnir.. And that is only if my study yields fruit.. " She twists a finger in the organ, and the smell of piss and shit fill the room.
>>
"Oh my, he's dead." She smiles," I'll need a new one to practice on..." Morgan's eyes remain locked on you,"And some way to dispose of the body...

I am curious about what Prestige does. Duke implies there's some sort of hint to its capabilities in Smoke Magic's description.

Oh yes, this. Quickly. After we finish up disposing the body, we should share with Morgan the contents of our recent dream.
>>
>>25864454
After that we should probably give Morgan a peck on the cheek and tell her about our dream. Part of the reason she's here in Florin with us is to investigate why we're so odd.

If we're at all aware of the Devil's Luck presence we should inform her of that as well. She likes us a lot, it should be safe to tell her.
>>

You sigh," Well, as I'm here... You're done with him right?"
Morgan gives you a coy nod.
"Alright, if you'll stand aside, Lady Morgan, I'll dispose of this body..."

She steps to something of a corner within the tight space and you take a short breath as you partially transform with your human facade flaking off like ashes. Your maw grabs the body by the head and you pull back carefully, locking your chainsaws in place and running them to pull the body down your throat as you ignite your furnace heart at full blast, baking the body at first to perfection, and then to the point far beyond crispy. You gather in all of the resulting smoke and horrible stench. Within ten minutes you feel the ashes of his bones within you along with the condensed smoke for later release.
>Ash 5/5
You return to your form of Jacob, and Morgan and Kama are both smiling madly.
The Blonde demon hops up and down before you," Oh, oh, oh, you really did that, you killed him!"
You raise an eyebrow," What? He was dead on the way down, I-"
Morgan chuckles," Surprising that the younger one can tell... I just pressed him to release his bowels, the man was actually alive. Oh, to think, he must have felt everything, while being unable to scream.."

You smile madly yourself, chuckling, at that," Morgan, you are indeed a delightfully cruel creature..

Also, guys, what should we save the exp for?

>>25864886
I just realized that if the Lord turns into an Akuma, he'll be too...simple. To properly disguise himself. We may have to leave converting him towards the end game. Maybe once we've decided to leave this town, we could convert the Lord into an Akuma, slaughter everyone, and once the Lord has gotten enough of an identity, we can put him into place as a puppet leader who would refuse Crimson Cross presence for their failure to protect the town.

>>25864911
Yeah, let's go with that.
>>
>>25864911

it'll be hard to bring a new subject with the Crimson cross nearby. tell Claire to stay here and wait for the crimson cross to leave, then go introduce her to Jacqueline and Lisa. see if they would be interested in taking her with them as they go acquire a new test subject.
>>
>>25864900

>>
>>25864911
actually, they may be able to handle it until we're more familiar with town
>>
>>25864940
we could wait until the crimson cross leave
>>
>>25864886
I have to vote against that. I'd prefer for Morgan to get better at what she does and make him into an infiltrator that way. The lord as a Level 1 will be noticed immediately.
>>
>>25865000
Oh, that's much subtler than my plan to cover his conversion through the slaughter of the town.
>>
>>25864934
The Lord's speaking with the Duke's man already. We're not the only operatives here with the means and motive to spawn additional Akuma.
>>
>>25865026
You mean Pastor James?

Yeah, see, this is why I believe the Crimson Cross is surrounding the Lord. To make sure he doesn't succumb to his grief.

Anyway, IF Pastor James succeeds in subtly pushing the Lords towards making an Akuma (like you're suggesting), that goes against our best interests.
>>
You recall your odd dream from the night.. the shadow children... the song... You feel.. as though you should bring it up with the Lady Noah..
"Ah, Morgan.."

She gives you her attention, even as she cleans up from the messy works," Yes, Faefnir, what is it?"

You work out what you'll tell he with.. some thought and finally spill it out... "I dreamt again... I dreamt again, and this time I remember the words to the song I heard.."
You tell her all of the details and she looks at you, appraising.
"Faefnir.. the Doctor had told me.. that there were indeed odd things about you.. It turns out.. That he's only changed his physical design... the programming is meant to be a touch more subtle overall... Though.. not in what's happened with you..

Faefnir, Akuma are Adam's eyes, ears, legs, and arms. He can look through the eyes of each... and every.... single... one." She enunciates those words as they roll from her tongue. She bids you forward, and to sit upon her table.
You oblige her and she begins to run dark energy across your body.
She continues,"Except.. for you... and your family..." She stops the scanning, or whatever it is she's doing.
"What is it, that you think this means?" You ask, concern bearing upon your voice.

Morgan stares at you intently... Saying nothing...
>>
>>25865000
Then we should procure a new experiment subject ASAP.

We may have to defy the lady Noah.
>>
"Faefnir, go in front of the church and begin your self destruction sequence. Take out the two knights of Crimson that guard the Lord Florin." She finally says after some time. "This is an order, and Kama." She stares at the other demon who's eyes have just gone wide," You stay right where you are."

You begin to protest, yet your words are cut off by Morgan's," Begin, now. Once more, this is an order."

You rise, your body defying you, yet your mind still conscious as you turn, walking forward like a toy soldier, Kama can only watch you pass.

"No, no, no... Morgan, stop this, please!" She begs, despite the stasis of the Noah's absolute order.

Morgan is silent, and you can no longer see them as you head up the Mausoleum's stairs..

An internal timer starts within you...

The anger you have for the Asher, the need your family has of you.

The bread that you've yet to bake.

These thoughts force your movements slower.

Ivan would be pissed if you ended this way...

You look up, and you see the shine of the crimson armor... The thirst in your heart for vengeance.. A life you still need to live...

Through sheer force of will, you halt your legs, and hard for a moment... You stand there.

You resist the order...

The clock in your heart reads..

>"01:37"

You hiss through your teeth,"I will not kill, simply because I am made to. I will kill for those that have come to rely on me..."
Throwing your head back, you speak softly,"Lady Maitora, I'm afraid this is one order I must decline. To many depend on me to do my work, I am your tool but if God is to perish I must fight to become more... So much more.."

The Crimson guard looks over to you, tilting her head," Excuse me? Are you alright?"

You point at her with a fierce smile," Yes! Yes I am! I am quite well!"
With a spin on your heel, you begin to return to the Florin Mausoleum.. The self destruction timer promptly reset, You're fuming, livid at Morgan.
How dare she order your death? As if it were nothing... How dare she... How DARE she...

But this is hardly any way to treat someone who swore himself to you as your personal monster when he rescued you from the stocks and the Asher.

This is indeed the choice to be made...

You can resist the Noah's orders.

The Earl cannot see or listen through your family.

This is the start of Faefnir's tale... because he can now choose his own destiny.
>>
>>25866016
I say we stop being their tools and only work towards the goals we've already decided on. Others however seem to be content to remain as their tools.
>>
>>25866045
then we shall cease being tools, and be allies in the war against God
>>
>>25866045
we will of course continue to do the doctor's work. but we will not follow all orders blindly
>>
>>25866045
We work as allies, as opposed to tools. We're above the common akuma, and are therefore able to take tasks they can not normally perform.
>>
>>25866045
We are fully committed to the Noah and Adam's war of dark justice, but we will not throw our life or the lives of our family away for this. We will all live, we will all have victory
>>
>>25866016
Neither. We are tools, but blind servitude is unbecoming. Wrath, however, risks making us seem more dangerous than we really are.

We are the Akuma that came back. We should be nonchalant, but insistant that she not try this again.
>>
>>25866016
I feel that we should stop being their tools as they obviously tried to kill us. Thank the ever hate gods that get got a good roll.
>>
>>25866069
we must take care not to outwardly show our new-found independent-mindedness, before we have enough power to at least escape eradication should the noah decide we are too dangerous, and need to be destroyed. let us act the tool, and be the ally.
>>
>>25866045
The Cursed God will be brought down. We may be weapons of war, but we will not be simple tools like the previous generations of Akuma. Not mindless, but filled with will.
>>
>>25866016
We can't divorce ourselves entirely from the Noah, such a thing is impractical at best, the others of our Family can not exactly do as we do, and we require the Duke for such a thing. It just isn't a possibility. But given that we can resist them they can't fuck with us too much, we have enough independence to fuck their operation up something fierce.

They have plenty of tools and look where that's gotten them, they're losing. Another couple tools would not change that.

I say we work for/with them, we help them achieve their goals and they help us with ours, we are even friendly, polite, and caring. We want the same thing as they do. But we are more than a tool, we are Faefnir, we are an ally, not a slave, a friend, not their doll. We do not obey blindly, we act on our own initiative. If their plan is stupid we tell them so, if they wish us to die for a plan we consider not worth it we refuse. The Doctor keeps making us Family from those we prepare for him and we keep on aiding him in his war against God.

And Morgan we can continue to be friendly and affectionate, but it's on equal grounds now. I think her name may be Morgan now to us, not Lady Morgan, or Noah Morgan, we don't need titles to address an equal.
>>
>>25866164

Type faster, Duke! This is a dramatic scene!
>>

I thought the implication was clear.
>>
>>25866566
Aren't the levels linear?
>>
You take a deep breath and press on with your fury in some kind of check, descending into the crypt, you can hear the sucking in of breath as a result of the two women's surprise.

You stand before them both, Morgan's eyes wide at first, betraying her disbelief, yet relaxing into her usual calm and collected demeanor."I believe... you have words to say to me?"

She seems to be waiting, as does Kama, though the demon seems to be at a severe loss right now.

You give a small, polite bow, before standing tall, your eyes steady and unflinching, it would be your voice that betrays your anger this time," Morgan my dear, I am indeed shocked that you would order me to leave you defenseless, to leave my family defenseless." You turn to the side and adjust an out of place candle, pacing slowly around the slab that exists in the center of the room, moving past Kama at the stairs.
"You and your family hardly have the... luxury of tossing assets like myself aside. Yes, as you can see... I can resist your orders if need be." You circle around to the woman's back, her body stiff, unmoving.

You place your hands upon her shoulders and whisper into her ear," I am different, I dream, I care..." You apply a gentle, massaging grip, and her body arches for a moment," Perhaps I even love?" You put yourself on the other side of her face," You have gotten the results that you wanted."
You let go and walk away from her once more, circling the stone table once more," But, this is hardly the way to treat someone sworn to your service.. The one that rescued you from the stocks.. and the Asher."
>>
>>25866579
It means that there was one or a few who managed to get to Level 4.....and then no more level 3's came after....

I'm sorry. I thought it was clear.
>>
>>25866552
Hold on a sec.

We don't know what happened during that war.

There is the possibility that some level 4 Akumas freed themselves from the Doctor's control, possibly through inocense shenanigans.
>>
>>25866630
Why would you come to that conclusion at all? It's just so utterly disconnected from what was being stated.
>>
You stop at Kama, looking her over, as she's still unable to move. You place a hand onto her cheek and pinch them apart," Please Kama, make a better face than that."
Kama smiles at you, her expression relaxing,"It's Claire, Jacob." Her body seems to be able to move again.
"Right, that it is. Thank you for reminding me Claire. wait outside, will you?"
The Akuma nods and leaves promptly.
Morgan stares at you incredulously," Did you just.."

You look at the Noah with an amused grin yourself, you've actually calmed down quite a bit," I suppose I did. I must tell you however.." You approach her, standing before the slab," God must die, Ivan must be avenged, the crimson order must be eradicated, and I will NOT throw my life away on a SINGLE insignificant act."

Morgan's lips are pursed for a moment, though she lets words escape nonetheless," Does that mean you.."
"I am an ally to the family of Noah. An Ally. and my family are not tools. I will see you at the Lady's Rest should you have words for me tonight.
Have Jacqueline or Lisa run your errand, I've got my own things to do right now."

You turn your back to leave," Faefnir."
She calls to you, emotion in your voice, and you stop promptly, looking over your shoulder to regard her at the edge of your vision.
"What is it?"
The Noah stands there in shock for a moment, yet she finally looks away from you," I.. am sorry.. I'll see you tonight."
"That you will, I look forward to it."

You leave, and Claire does with you.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

After that bit of excitement, Kama has little to say.. what with the clear defiance of the Noah.

You apply for a job at The Warm Morning in the afternoon, the proprietor there being a middle-aged woman by the name of Charlotte. You noted that her shop seemed to have varieties of pastries, you'll have to commit a recipe or two to memory as you work here...
>>
You've got the better part of the afternoon now... and Kama's still at your side.

[X] Snoop about the Lord's Manor

Maybe we can see what Schwere is up to.
>>
>>25866692
Should we get this thread archived now?
>>
>>25866692
>[] (Other)
Could we grab Schwere and go visit the gypsy troupe to give her a lesson in gambling?
>>
>>25866692
check the lady's rest for madeleine. we need to free her, and the rest of our family, as quickly as possible. this is a delicate time, as most of our family could still be held hostage and used against us. To be frank, I don't think this is likely, but we would be fools not to take precautions.
>>
Her reaction makes me think she may have been actually trying to kill us, and not test like others thought.
>>
>>25866734
We're....we're going to lose all our stripper money if we do that....

And Schwere is probably still working, so I don't think playing hookey will be fine.

And snooping at the Lord's manor seems inadvisable. Let Ambrust and Schwere (if she managed to get a job there) gather information for us.
>>
>>25866692
can we work on our sourdough? or save that for the morning. i'm sure Claire would love some
if not gamble i guess
>>
>>25866729

Now would be an excellent time..

>>25866734
You aren't aware of where Schwere is right now..
>>
>>25866776
let's ask claire if she knows

also guys, I feel like I should remind us all that just because we were able to defy the Noah this once does not mean we should make a habit of it. they are very strong, and they have control over a lot of Akuma. So let's try not to get too big for our britches, and generally obey the Noah and the Doctor.
>>
>>25866655

Here is what I gathered:
There are few level 4 akumas left, which are supposed to be nearly as strong as Noah.
The last war devastated the doctor's family and destroyed most akumas.
Morrigan freaked out when she inspected us and then tried to destroy us.
Our free will is probably why she attempted to destroy us.

What if the level 4 somehow akumas turned on the doctor? Such an event would have turned the tide of the war.

This is still unlikely mind you, but my tired brain came to that conclusion.

>>
>>25866776
now is the perfect time to learn new recipes.
first of course our sourdough in tribute the Ivan (big scene, this is the first "real" bread we've made since losing Ivan), then perhaps a muffin or croissant?
>gotta learn to make Devil's Food cake at some point <3
>>
>>25866822
There's no reason for us to secede from them. We just want respect.

>>25866849
Normal akuma aren't able to resist the Noah, no matter how powerful they get. So they'd have to be like us.

But like I said, none of that really follows from what was said.

As for how to deal with Morgan later on; if she really feared us rebelling, just reassert to her our loyalty.

Archived, gents.

Ah, that reminds me... Armbrust's quirk has been clarified as Dutiful.

Schwere's quirk has to do with her habit of losing while gambling...

It also seems like... the favored choice is to go gambling with the gypsies?
Bringing Schwere, if possible?
>>
>>25866894
sure
>>
>>25866894
I know what her quirk is. Learning.

and yeah, bring her along

Oh hey, when we meet with Morgan later, we better ask her not to repeat her order with anyone else in the family. That'd be a bit....disrespectful.

I think it's Reserved since she always seems to be trying to restrain her emotions. Then again she could also be an Introvert.

If you'd like, her appointment with Edward is at night.

Oh boi I just noticed that us being "independent" is fine reasoning for our eventual level 4 forms to be unique humanoids.
>>
>>25866973
I'm going to guess it's honesty. Not having a dishonest metal bone in your body would lead to problems gambling.
>>
>>25866997

I can add reserved, though there's a reason why she keeps losing at Poker.
An emotion she can't keep under wraps.

As you and Claire walk through the market street, it occurs to you that you still have a great deal of money from the.. "display" last night.. And money not earned is money that can thrown away after all..
It strikes you that you still need to teach Schwere how to gamble properly.. You had thought of it before, yet the immediate circumstances kept you from making good on that.

Tonight will be the night that she starts winning.. Err, first...
"Claire, would you have an idea of where Schwere is?"

The Blonde woman puts a hand to her cheek, thinking,"If I remember right.. She should be at the Lady's Rest.. She had tried to get a job in the Lord's study, but something happened yesterday and he won't see anyone.. Must have to do with the tragedy of his wife.." She actually looks thoughtful for a moment..

And you suddenly panic, running on ahead to the Tavern.
"Ja-jacob?! Why are you running?!" She calls out to you as she begins to run in turn.

"Schwere's at the tavern! She's gambling! She's losing money!"

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Schwere was exactly where Claire said she was, and she had been doing exactly what you had thought. You arrived just in time to stop her from betting clothes to keep the game going, she apologized profusely to the men as you made her leave for the gypsy troupe for their gambling.

After changing form to Rickton Asher and stowing the armor somewhere, you weasel your way into the Gypsy's games, where they cheat at every turn, lie to your face, and have their eye on your money.

Schwere begins losing right away, and the gypsies begin to mock her... Actually playing against the mage, you find out that she while she's not easy to bluff, her expressions betray her guilt whenever she lies or gets a good hand...

At least you know where to start now...
>>
>>25867085
She's so freaking earnest.
>>
>>25867091
ahh, but it's endeering.
>>
>>25867085
oh god damnit, she's too damn honest. her quirk is honesty
>>
So where's Claire? Gambling with us?
>>
The gypsies seem to speak more freely with you this evening, even offering you food that you know better to turn down... with the money you've brought tonight, they likely plan to poison you and steal it.

Not that you'd be vulnerable..

Schwere however, is too polite to turn down a few bites to eat... and they begin to give her strange looks as you play into the night.

You at least find out more about the gypsies... The men that have taken to playing cards with you number three, Fonso, the oldest of the young men that speak with you, and Boiko along with his little brother, Bo.

You still don't know any of the women, and they still show some tension around you..
Your words relax them, and you actually begin to feel some kinship between yourself and them.

They let few people walk among their family... Their family being the most important thing to them, as it is for you, likewise..
Outcasts, scorned by everyone accept each other.. Hell, if they weren't just bags of meat and flesh, you might actually get along with this people...

Then again, you don't have to follow the order to take live specimens anymore..

You smile at that, and the bluff that follows wins you a considable sum.. THey didn't even notice that there ware only supposed to be 4 aces... Cheating has its quirks, after all.

In time, you return to the Lady's Rest to meet Morgan there...

You are pleased to find that she's alone, though with the rest of your family minding their own business in an almost empty drinking floor...

> THat's all for tonight folks!

>I'll need to get Twitter so a little bird can tell you gents, I'm not sure when I can next hold Akume-quest... I'm like to say, Wednsaday. Need to check my dear schedule...

Sticking around for a bit longer for proper questions/answers of what I can!
>>
>>25867159

We'll say that she chose to stay behind at the Lady's...
>>
>>25867162
well, I must sleep, it was fun, Duke, hope to see you soon!
>>
>>25867162
I did pose a question which was never answered here:
>>25866280

Perhaps some clarification is in order? it was rather cryptic. I was wondering if the noah clan was as... thinned, as it is now when we were created. I really would appreciate knowing this.
>>
>>25867184
My guess is yes, it was not soon after our birth that we were tasked with finding the Noah Family, I doubt that right after our birth shit hit the fan, the Noah have been losing for a while I think this time around.
>>
>>25867211
it does seem likely.
>>
>>25867020
Honesty
>>
>>25867211

This gentleman's observation is correct. The unfortunate losing streak of this generation? It began with the culling of the last!

This is the chance to right turn this war around, and show those that fight for God, just how vain their cause is...

Oh, it will not be easy... bit at alll...
>>
I must retire now, I thank you for a glorious night!
>>
>>25867275
Thank YOU, most Delightfull Duke.
>>
Sweet dreams, Duke.
