Writeup incoming.

Planting your feet you prepare to create lightning and shoot it at the beast. You start with the slow rythmic movements as always, but for some reason they only seem to draw the beasts attention.

The two tendrils on the Oonagi's face raise up and click together with an arc of lightning between them. The beast roars and opens its mouth as water pours out from a hole below its tongue. The water pouring out turns into a pressurized jet and the facial tendrils are brought into it electrifying the stream.

The jet is of such high pressure that it saws through the water and even cuts a portion of the boat as it heads towards you, fortunately you manage to scramble out of the way - which is when you realize that the blast damaged the main mast of the ship, where the Yu Yan archer still was, and where Lily and Pan were climbing down the rigging.

Not trying to complain, but how rusty do you feel since the last thread?

As the mast starts to topple you rush over seeking to correct it by bracing yourself against it and throwing as much fire as you can, right before you leap though you slip on the wet deck. The fire you throw beneath you only sends you flying into the mast at an awkward angle, bashing it hard and very nearly knocking the wind out of your lungs.

As you plummet back towards the deck, you hear a shouting voice above the deafening noises of the Oonagi and splintering of the mast, it shouts "Maro! take my hand!". Flailing you grab Pan's hand and are saved from certainly knocking yourself out upon the deck.

Lily shouts as the falling mast accelerates, but both Pan, Her and yourself managed to leap out of the rigging and back to the deck without any major issues. The Yu Yan on the other hand ends up having to make a choice between dropping into the water with the mast, or leaping to the deck... she chooses the latter and ends up taking the fall hard enough to knock the air out of her lungs.

Everyone seems safe, for the moment. The Captain is screaming in utter fury at the Oonagi and the boarding party are lowering a boat with Ming in it into the water.

Leaving the rigging you gaze upon the beast... it tracks you with its eyes, facial tendrils waving and sparking.

Taking a deep breath in you root your feet firmly on the ship deck building a small circle of fire in your hands, as the fire grows you let itself climb up your arms. When you feel you have sufficient fury mustered, you start shooting rapid percussive blasts of fire at the Oonagi - aimed directly at its eyes.

The first few blasts strike along the creatures neck, scorching the skin, the next few it snuffs out with a jet of water, creating a brief veil of steam. You let go a great wave of fire to disperse the veil of steam, and continue punishing the creature with firey bolts.

Looking past the oonagi you see Ming Puar shouting at the two men on the boat with her to row harder. Inspired by her desire to take the fight closer to the creature, you run forward and with a short hop shoot pillar of fire from your feet. Staff in hand and fire trailing from your arms you throw a few jets of fire as you drop, kicking and punching, one strikes the creature right in its left eye popping the orb with a hiss.

As you drop within striking range of the Oonagi, it snaps at you, Staff held before you, you wedge the creatures mouth open. Standing in the creatures mouth and holding on to the wedged staff, you hear Ming shout victory as she starts hacking away at the outside of the creature from her boat.

The Oonagi thrashes and flails its head about, you believe you hear it impact the pirate ship with its tail. Your footing is somewhat unstable.

Taking a risk and letting go of your staff, you drop deep into a rooted stance, fire still lingers on your arm from before, and inhaling deeply you draw it out in front of you, working with it and exhaling even more life into it. The fire builds and grows with a life of its own, until you direct it forward into a great flaming blast, it rips through the oonagi searing the creatures insides and blasting the eel-serpent apart.

The destruction is so great and so complete that there are holes all throughout the beast. its jaw slackens and you dive out of its mouth and into the water, where chunks of the creature now float. It is brief seconds before Ming and the two crewmen pull you out.

The crewmen look at you with a mix of horror and awe, and even Ming seems unsure of what to say.

Was consulting MAPS, apologies for taking so long on this bit.

The crew quickly sets to work retrieving the mast and the dead Oonagi, the ship is guided into the cove that the pirates were using as their base, wasting no time the crew salvages what it can and sets about the plan you mentioned. The captain informs you that it will take a number of days to fix things.

The first day of exploring the area around the cove is uneventful, though lily seems greatly pleased by it. Pan seems to be enjoying it as well, you return back to the ship before sunset and find out that oonagi is indeed very tasty.

The second day starts without a hitch... but Pan ends up getting lost somewhere along the line... spending the whole day searching for her you're unable to find her - and you spend the whole night searching too.

Pan is found the next day, but she's quite shaken by the experience, she did manage to pick up an old trail when she was out though and found one of the pirates caches. In its contents you find a few pretty gems and pieces of jewelery, and roughly 900 silver bu, probably belonging to one of the benders you fought - well paid but not rich. You return to the ship and end up eating oonagi again.

The fourth day is special, and you can tell from the moment you set out, you find another old path - but this one is different from the one Pan found... it takes most of the day, but following it leads you to a very old and if you had to describe it - you'd say a sacred place. Exploring it you keep seeing strange little shadows in the corner of your eye, you follow them and are led to an ancient chamber.

Inside the chamber there is a statue with a magnificent but ancient sword in its hands, raised towards the heavens, at his feet coils a winged serpent you know to be a dragon, it has a scroll in its mouth.

who needs middle ground?

You sit looking at the detail work on the scroll casing. Dragons are wrapped all around the metal shell and it's vaguely hypnotizing, it takes some time but you eventually manage to get the scroll out of its casing, and unrolling it... it's unlike any firebending scroll you've ever seen.

Instead of human going through bending motions on the scroll, the scroll depicts a dragon doing bending forms... and not just a regular one, a great one with scales like black stone, sometimes there is lightning in the forms, other times there is blue fire... the techniques depicted are beyond comprehension and absolutely stunning in scope. You begin to wonder about who may have penned this scroll and in what age, its details go beyond anything you've seen before...

Learning the forms depicted in the scroll doesn't look like it's going to be even remotely imaginable for the time being - you're going to need to figure out how to translate them to human movements. Rolling the scroll back up and putting it in its case you tuck it into your robes.

With a moment of introspection you come to the realization that you haven't yet thanked the Yu Yan for her aid in the pirate raid. Asking some of the ship crew you're directed to a small tent she's set up close to the ship.

Approaching the tent you call out "Excuse me, may I speak with you?"

"Come in firebender." stepping into the small tent, you see the woman working on some arrows, waxing the string of her bow and performing other maintenance oriented tasks.
