It's a little after three in the afternoon when you finally arrive at Oorai High's tank tank hanger. Afternoon practice hasn't started yet, but the tanks crews are all readying their weapons of war for practice. However, as you round your tank you notice someone, well, not quite new but unexpected.

You are the Commander of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and why is the blond wannabe British tank commander standing in your team's hanger.

"Ah! Commander Russells. Good of you to finally make it!" She says politely, turning and giving you a small bow. "We should have more than enough experienced tankers to help get the greener crews into tip-top shape!" She smiles at you and turns back, instructing them on how to best bring their 75mm sponson-gun to bear on enemies.

You blink. Well, you weren't expecting this.

>"Wait. What are you doing here?"
>"We might fight against you in the tournement. Why are you helping us?"
>"I see. Thank you, then. Where do you need me to help?"

You stare at the back of her head for a second, trying to put your thoughts into rational order. "Um." You begin, trying to get her attention.

She stops, and looks at you. "Yes, commander?"

"Uh, why are you even here?" You ask, confused. "We might be fighting you in the tournement! We already beat you once, and you want us to be harder to beat next time?"

Darjeeling smiles gently. "We underestimated Oorai's team, Commander. I promise that if our teams do meet again, you will not have it so easy..." Her smile hardens to iron at this. "As for the why, there are two reasons- your team impressed me, of course yourself and Miss Nishizumi are both excellent commanders, but the rest of your team is far better than they have any right to be with as little training as they have." She looks around the hanger. "I want to see what Oorai is truely capable of."

War of 1812 was an overall victory for the USA, no territory was lost or gained, but the British were forced to acknowledge the USA as a sovereign nation that no longer answered to the British Empire and who's citizens they couldn't force into their navy at gunpoint.

Sure, they sacked D.C. and burned the white house, but their superior force was routed by an inferior bunch of militia, pirates and a token number of men you could actually call soldiers at New Orleans.

And as >>25745892 mentioned, those were Canadians.

The British gained nothing from 1812 but embarrassment, while the USA gained legitimacy as a rising nation.

oh, and we rebuilt the burned stuff anyway. Ha!

"...And the second reason?" You ask her as Darjeeling finishes her speech. You aren't exactly sold on the idea of contracting training out to a rival school- especially one that you'd already beaten once and likely had every reason to not allow that to happen again.

"I believe Anzu will tell you the second reason when she's ready for you to know." Darjeeling says with a small smile. "But you should know that this tournement is very important to Anzu, and she has no intention of losing."

"...Could've fooled me..." You mutter. "So, you're helping out Rabbit Team. Where do you need me to help?"

It isn't hard to find Turtle Team- Anzu and Yuzu are both lazying about outside their Czech-made Panzer 38(t). "Shouldn't you two be practicing or something?" You say, a bit annoyed that they weren't at the very least inspecting their tank and making sure everything was in running order.

"Can't." Anzu says, chewing on an apple.

"Rose kicked us out of the tank..." Yuzu says sadly.

"'You two are just getting Momo excited!'" Anzu says, obviously quoting your gunner. "'You keep hurrying her! She'll never shoot straight with you two in here!'"

You frown. "Well then check the engine! Tighten the tracks! DO SOMETHING!" Experience had taught you that there was always something on a tank that needed adjusting, or fixing, or replacing- there was no excuse for them to just laze about.

There was a Pershing, an M-46, and most of the ones I couldn't identify looked like Ex-East German army Russian tanks.

You stop. "Actually, before you do something..." You look over at Anzu. "Why's Darjeeling here?" You think for a second. "Scratch that... Why is Darjeeling really here?"

Anzu looks at you boredly, but Yuzu starts speaking first. "She just doesn't want to s-"

Anzu shuts her up with a look that could peel the zimmerit off a Tiger. "Darjeeling's a... capricious personality- part of the reason I enjoy her company." Anzu starts. "I really couldn't tell you why she offered to help, but I certainly didn't ask for it." Anzu takes another bite of her apple, and continues while talking. "Not that I'm going to turn it down- she's been one of the most successful commanders that Glorianna's had in years!"

You look at Anzu. "And you're not the least bit suspicious?"

"Not at all." Anzu looks over towards Darjeeling as she walks the Freshmen around their tank, still under repair by the automotive club. "Darjeeling's has an honorable streak a mile wide- I've known her for years and she doesn't cheat, doesn't even bend the rules." Anzu smiles. "Kinda gets boring sometimes, but we can rely on her."

You look at Anzu, then over at Darjeeling. If nothing else, Anzu is damned good at reading people. "Right, if you trust her then she's fine. Just... How about letting me or Miho know about these surprises ahead of time."

Anzu looks at you and shrugs. "Didn't even know she was going to be here until she showed up. Capricious, remember?" She slides down off the side of the 38(t) and waves you closer. "Actually, before you go. I was wondering if you could help me with something?"

You're actually taken off guard by this. Anzu almost never askes for help- she just finds a way of getting you to help without you knowing. Cautiously you approach closer...

By that logic, how the hell is Anzu in charge in the first place?
Maybe she just acts the Orkiest. She's definitely got the brutal cunning part down pat.

She's not in charge anymore.

While I might have gotten a bit excited there, I'm not suggesting we gorge ourselves with her blood, only that we find a nifty way to deliver a little bit of karmic payback. I think she might even appreciate someone playing the same game. Something that doesn't compromise our chances winning in sensha-do.

You go and lean against the 38(t) with her. "Alright, sure. What did you need to ask."

Anzu looks around nervously before she starts. "We weren't supposed to win yesterday." She says flatly. "I should say, I didn't intend for us to win." The grimaces. "But we did win and that's thrown a wrench into my plan."

You look at her, completely confused. "What plan?" You say, shaking your head.

Anzu looks at Yuzu. "Tell him."

Yuzu looks embarassed. "The first prize is the sum of one-hundred thousand yen awarded by the Oorai Chamber of Commerce to the school club who is voted to have the best float." She rattles off from memory. "Second prize is the sum of fifty-thousand yen award-"

Anzu quites her with a wave her hand. "The Senshado team needs that money- and my float idea would win easily." Anzu sighs. "Unfortunately, by winning the battle yesterday that was all thrown into the air."

I don't mind the idea of us participating in the anglerfish dance that much. If everyone else is forced to dance, we join because we're all a team. But actually asking to do it just because "hurr it's funny if he does BEEFCAKE!" is stupid.
>>
As you think back, the plan starts coming together- the seemingly random battle against a superior opponent, Anzu's odd choice of punishment for losing. "The cuttlefish dance?" You say, things finally coming together.

Anzu frowns. "The Anglerfish dance- c'mon I named Miho's team after it! It would've had mass appeal- I had Yuzu look at the town's demographics. We'd win easily." She smiles sadly. "Or we would've, but now I've got nobody except Yuzu and Momo to dance. A hundred-thousand yen would've gone a long way towards helping the team."

"So what? You want my crew to do the dance on top of Black Jack for the parade?" You say, half-sarcastically.

Anzu frowns some more. "No- we thought about it but there's enough people old enough to remember the War that having an American tank driving down the main strip would've thrown off the numbers..."

"So then what do you want me to do?" You say, for some reason horrified at what that could've entailed...

"Talk to the girls- they trust you! If you could convince even some of them to volunteer we'd have an excellent purse that we could use for armaments, maybe even a new tank!"

Yeah, this is going to go down well...

Assign the dance duty to some of the non-senshado students then, if only for the indirect support they'll give to the tanking teams. They'll be too busy training and improving themselves to worry about this.

well the same thing'd be bound to happen if the overall quality went up to such an extent. I doubt Oorai in the anime would ahve came up with such interesting tactics if they weren't underdogs spec wise.

They're still underdogs, spec wise. Especially since the other teams are apparently getting upgrades since Black Jack is with Oarai.

They can still be driving bad tanks, just not TERRIBLE tanks.
>>
Absolutely no one will volunteer to do the anglerfish dance. We should just have everyone do the Time-warp or Macarena, just something that won't give them psychological breakdowns.

Do note that they weren't in the body-suits at the time, but to be honest I like the dance in uniform better; swaying skirts and all that goodness.

Is it the volleyball team that we wanted to get a Hellcat for? Because we might be able to put this money towards that if they help out.
>>
>>25752977
A Hundred thousand yen is basically chump change.

It's like, what, $1000 USD give or take a bit. It'll pay for one match's fuel and ammo and that's about it.
>>
>>25753143

It's still better than getting nothing, and seeing how this school's geared up we're gonna need every penny.

Say, does Japan have a lottery like the Mega Millions in place? If we won, even though odds are stupendously against us, that cash would allow us to completely revamp the entire Senshado program.
