The king retreated from the throne room not long after giving you your mission. You can't help but wonder if it was really worth waiting half-a-week to hear the man order you to kill the Crystal thieves and, if needs be, kill the Princess. When he is once more led out by his entourage of guards, Lady Olbessa, the white haired, purple eyed sage, remains, hands foled amongst the sleeves of her robe. For once, however, she does not have a smile, but rather, has something of a pensive look about her. You wonder if she had known of the king's plans for his daughter beforehand. If she was surprised, she hid it well.

"To the east of Corneria, there is a great marsh, known simply as the Witchmarsh. If you can find your way to the centre, there you will see a cave. Inside lives a witch, older than perhaps any other living human. She has long lost the power of sight, but receives visions, still. She will be able to show you the way to the crystal. Although she may take some convincing."

"For your travels, we have prepared a caravan and two chocobo to pull it. We've already put four feedbags inside, so you should be able to keep them tame for two weeks. Besides, we will be able to spare 2000 gil for each of you, for the purposes of expenses, wardgems, potions and such as you need. Your rewards will be awaiting you upon your successful return, but I'm afraid the crown is not able to reach too deep into its pockets for the moment. War is a grave expense, I fear. Finally," she reaches inside her robes and, stepping towards you, pulls a scroll.

"A map of Erelund. It covers the roads, the rivers and most towns and castles, all the way from our border with Tiralund and their port city, Carwen, to Jeles Wall, and the very real wall surrounding the Teremoran keep of Riovanes. I wish you all safe travels. Please, if you have any further questions, now is the time to ask. I'm afraid I must ask you to depart as soon as you can."
>>
>>25684020
"What would the Witch ask for her cooperation? Best to know it now and not when we are in her cave."
>>
>>25684062

"I'm afraid I cannot answer that." She shakes her head gently."I imagine it would be an inconvenience to battle through the beast-ridden marsh only to be sent elsewhere, but honestly, the witch Matoya is our sincerest hope of tracking down Ser Hellond Highwind. We already have scouts asking in every town for sight of the airships, but who knows how long until we'll be able to compile an accurate report."
>>
>>25684138
At least she might not send us out after some silly bauble.
>>
>>25683882
Hell yes, I got off from work just in time.

>>25684062
If she has any idea. But yeah, this, also ask her if theres caravan has booster seats.
I have another question for the swamp witch too. But we'll have that when we get there.
>>
By numbering convention, this thread will be more popular than the last, but the last one will be a superior play experience.

Sage for non-contribution.
>>
>>25684190

(are you a numeromancer)
>>
>>25684186
Seconding the booster seat question, have to get a jab at Shrimpy McOnionk'nigget.
>>
>>25684020
I think we're spent on questions for the time being, if the other warriors have questions, this would be a good time too. I can't speak for them, it would be best we get what supplies we can on our way out of the town.

I think this is goodbye for Horry.
>>
>>25684224
It's a reference, you retard.
>>
>>25684138
I think we should head out as soon as possible. If we head to Deling (which was mentioned as being one of the few airship docks in the area, IIRC), we might be able to get some information on the airships ourselves on our way to the Witchmarsh.
And let's not forget to bring Horry with us; he may not be a WoL, but he's still our friend, and could be damn helpful in a fight. Not to mention in keeping the other party members in line.
>>
>>25684244
Maybe he could teach the O.K. a thing or two about fighting. I second taking Horry along.

>>25684224

Maybe.
>>
>>25684268
>Maybe he could teach the O.K. a thing or two about fighting.
Sounds like a plan; Onion Knights only reach their full potential after learning a wide variety of combat styles, and Horry does fill a niche that the rest of us don't.
>>
>>25684238

(It was a joke. I get what he's doing.)

>>25684186
Olbessa's brow raises in a twitch of confusion as the Onion Knight grumbles something about re-demonstrating her abilities. You wonder how many times you might have to blind her.

>>25684234

None of the others seem to have anything to bring up. Except Shang, who folds his arms, disapproval on his features.

"I came to face this Dragon Knight, not to visit a witch. I ill-like any who would be called 'witch'. The more powerful Augurs of my land can place fell curses on a man."

"To say that the witch Matoya would do no such thing is... unwise of me. Accounts of her vary, depicting her as a benevolent, even humorous character, and others saying that she, too, curses any who set foot in the marsh, that she is responsible for the beasts that dwell there and even that she kidnaps children." Olbessa shrugs. Then she gives a final, low bow.

"In place of His Grace, allow me to express the kingdom''s gratitude in your undertaking of this quest. I wish you naught but success and safety in your travels. May we meet again, soon, brave Warriors of Light."

And with that, she rises, turns and leaves through the back door, leaving the four of you alone now, but for the guards standing outside the door of the throne room. Finally, Ferra speaks up, her voice mousy from under-use.

"I'm not sure I would be able to kill a Princess..." Her distress is visible.

"It does not sit well with a Knight, that is for sure." Agrees Conara, folding her arms over her leathers.

"If it must be done," Shang simply shrugged, fishing his wineskin out from his sash and taking a liberal swig before putting it back in. "I can do it quickly, if need be. If the girl is truly such a danger, perhaps she may even wish it."
>>
>>25684388
Plus it keeps the shrimp out of our hair.

>>25684268
I want to veto taking horry with us, he would be useful, but other than that serves no purpose other than a backup fighter, or heroic human shield

I'd much rather leave him here, get him invested in the castle operations. That way, we have a set of eyes and ears in the castle, if we have a way to communicate with him at long distance this would be great. He's too loyal to betray us, too stupid to realize he should, too Horry to go down like a pussy.
Besides, when that warrior lady comes back, what if she finds out Horry went on some silly quest with the warriors of light and got red shirted?
I've seen the O.K. fight when she's pissed off, imagine if we have to fight someone stronger and taller than us.
>>
>>25684452
I wonder if whisperweed is a thing in this "Earth".
>>
>>25684400
"Right now we need to stock up on curative items while we can. Let us make haste to Matoya's Cave and find where we must go next."

Can we get an inventory and price list of items? We need Potions, Antidotes, at least 2 Phoenix Downs.
What's Ferra's spell list?
>>
>>25684452

Yeah, he could be a backup character. It would be nice to be able to check on him, see how he's developing and how the war is going on his end. Any chance you can make a few sequences where we play as Horry, QM?
>>
>>25684452
I have to agree that taking Horry along with us is a bad idea.
He's literally got no plot armour that the world gives us for being Warriors of Light. Bringing him along only invites his death either acting as our shield or as fodder.
I mean, look at how he went down like a chump mook to Sheng.
Best thing is for him is to train at the castle, get better, and then join his lady love in the war.
>>
>>25684552
Right, we leave Horry, but we need to keep some way of making sure he's safe, can't just abandon our bro.
>>
>>25684483
If whisperweed is what I think it is, yeah, this is a great idea, I'm shadowrun level paranoid about Olbessa, something about her seems not quite right.

If we could somehow get Horry into the palace guard or useful but quiet role, that would be great. Somewhere, that he could be present in the castle, and check on Olbessa from time to time, he doesn't have to spy on her, just be cordial as usual, just see if she leaves late at night suspiciously or something and inform us.
>>
>>25684552
>He's literally got no plot armour that the world gives us for being Warriors of Light.
Warriors of light don't get plot armor; FF5 even has one die and get replaced.
>>
wtf, 4chan, stop putting null in my name and email.

Does anyone know why this is happening, I have to erase it everytime I post.
>>
>>25684499

(Cost 1: Repel, Cure, Antidota, Clarity
Cost 2: Regen, Vox

The party's present equipment, inventory and abilities are available in the 'party status' link shared above.)

"We'll certainly need some antidotes to visit the marsh.. and perhaps some Echo Herbs, should we be silenced and I have not the ability to use Vox,"

Since you seem to have been given leave to exit the castle, you can visit the market district if you like. Besides a Traveller's Shop, there's a Weapon Shop, an Armour Shop and, as you found out shortly after arriving for the first time, a Tome salesman.

>>25684483

If there is such a thing as Whisperweed, you have never heard of it. You do remember some mention of a Whisperwood, however, on the Western Continent.

>>25684552
>>25684585

Do you wish to go see Horry now? The medical tent is right next to the Barracks training grounds.
>>
>>25684608

Horry is probably the worst person in the world to use for spying. He's honest, gullible, naive and trusting. Anyone but him would be a better choice for intelligence gathering. He wouldn't know what "suspicious" behaviour entails.
>>
>>25684608
remember FFIV (or the Sequel) it's what Edward used to help the party against the Dark Elf (or Spy on mind controlled Cecil to fucking prepare.)

>>25684636
Damn, lets see Horry then.
>>
>>25684636
>Do you wish to go see Horry now?
Yes. Let's explain our plan to him and see how he feels about it.
Depending on how that goes, we can work on what to do next, although the first part of >>25684244 sounds like a good idea regardless of Horry's reaction, if anon is right about Deling being an airship port.
>>
>>25684656
>>25684677

You find the red-headed fighter, as expected, in the medical tent. As Olbessa commented, the castle White Mages are comely things, one tall man with short, black sheafs of black hair wearing half-moon glasses and a kind smile, the other a young woman with straw coloured hair and a kind smile, both in the same robes as Ferra. They offer a smile to their sister-of-sorts as you tell Horry or your intentions. At which point, he looks disturbingly similar to a kicked dog.

"You want me to stay here...? B-but I'm no city-folk, Cecil, I told you that... and what about the noble lady? Aren't we going to rescue her?"
>>
>>25684546

(I plan on saying absolutely nothing as to whether you might, at some point, play a different character or not.)
>>
>>25684793

>>black sheafs of black hair
You don't say.

straight sheafs*
>>
>>25684793
We will Horry, we also need you to train up, besides, I think you should rest for a couple days, looks like Shang gave you a real beating, and you can keep an eye on Hoskeep and Ryara a lot easier.
>>
>>25684793
Horry, we're I'm going...well...look, what was the name of that lovely lady you met? You got obligations now, and where I'm going, there's a very good chance I might not come back. If you come with me, you could be in the same straights, and you can't fill your obligations if you're dead in a ditch beside me.

In a quieter tone, besides, I'm more worried about snakes in the grass in our own yard than snakes in a field a thousand leagues away. Do you get my drift Horry? I need someone I can trust to weed the garden while I'm away.
>>
>>25684879
This sounds good.
>>
>>25684879
If Horry doesn't get that, then say, look, I don't want to put all our eggs in one basket, I don't want all the burden to be on OLBESSA if something should go wrong here in the castle, and she has to contact us, it would be good to have someone nearby that can sound the alarm and get in contact with us if something happens while we're away.
>>
>>25684879
This, this right here. If not for the soldier girl, then maybe for the white mage he's under the care of.
>>
>>25684861

At mention of the monk, Horry looks at him darkly. The black braided yin disciple stands, arms folded, watching the trainees at their work.

"So, he's really a Warrior of Light, huh? I don't like him much, Cecil..."

You wonder if that's due to the now ruined shield and bloodied nose. But he's been healed, and is back to full strength now. Sans a shield.

>>25684879

"Gretla...?" His tone softens. But still, he sulks. "She's gone off to war. There's already chance we might not meet again. And what would I say if she came back to find me in the castle walls like some craven? And how do you know if I stay here, I won't get shipped off elsewhere, anyway?"

With surprising resolution, Horry shakes his head.

"No. If I'm not travelling with you, I'm joining the next company marching north and I'm going to fight alongside Gretla, instead, someone who -does- want me."

Horry stands, looping his sword on his belt and picking up his useless shield. Talk of snakes does not seem to mean much to him.
>>
>>25684963
That's probably for the best, stay alive Horry, I'll punch you in the face for that insult on our friendship when I get back with the Grand Crystal of Fire.

finally got rid of those damn nulls
>>
>>25684963
"Horry wait. You're my friend, and I just don't want to see you hurt. Not after Elly"
>>
>>25684963
Perform a facepalm at how dense he can be sometimes.

I need someone here who can make sure we're not all being led into some kind of trap, besides, after what happened to Elly, I just don't want to see something happen to a good friend again.
>>
>>25684993
hmmm, I don't think Horry would know what the hell is going on even if Olbessa was setting up a coup or something.
>>
>>25685038
This. If Horry stayed behind, we'd probably end up having to fight him ourselves if she did turn out to be plotting something.

I still think we should've had him come with us and teach Conara a few things. At least that way we could actually do something about it, should he end up in harm's way.
>>
>>25684993
this, Horry hurt us when we were only looking out for him. Then 180 heelturn and hairflip on the way out.
>>
>>25685114

(Can I get a consensus?)
>>
>>25685147

(I would also like one, and the post quote in the last post was a mistake...)
>>

(I'd go Take Horry, the best FFs had a 5 man party plus all we have is revenge Monk, and two kids.)
>>
>>25685155

>>25685270
>>25685189

You sigh, and agree to take Horry. He immediately attempts to hide the smile on his lips.

"Good. We took the mission together, we should see it out together."

He offers you his friend in a gesture of friendship.
>>
>>25685372
>He offers you his friend
Is that anything like his honor?
>>
>>25685387

(It's his other honour.)

hand*
>>
>>25685396
(And here I was hoping it was that white mage who was healing him.)

Return the gesture
>>
>>25685469

After a hearty shake, Horry joins your party once more, giving thanks to the White Mages as you leave the tent. You make your way around the front of the castle to see the caravan Olbessa has prepared for you. A big thing with a spacious back, a cloth canopy and a seat big enough for two, it will certainly do to carry you, your party and all your belongings. The two chocobo at the front as yellow, docile creatures compared to orange. They gently 'kwee' to one another.

"I shall ride up front!" Proclaims Conara, clambering up onto the wooden bench that makes the driver's seat. But she makes no move to take the reins. Nor do Horry, Shang and Ferra, who make their way into the back, the Fighter lifting the young White Mage up inside. It seems you are expected to drive this thing. Where would you like to go?

>>

>>25685695
whats osmose?
>>
>>25685695
>The prices of those spells
Dang, might as well go with Saber (ifit's what I think it is) would get us Horry and OK's attack up.
>>
>>25685695
Osmose, and saber, 1 phoenix down,

Steel longsword, and leather armor, gotta keep the feather hat.

That was assuming the party page didn't have the 2000 gil Olbessa gave us included in it.

Ferra needs to pick up placate, and we'll get her our last thousand to pick up protect.

Monk buy a couple tents, a couple wardstones, and several potions and antidotes, Conara should pick up a several potions/antidotes, and one tent/1wardstone and a phoenix down.
>>
>>25685749
Like drain, cept with magic
>>
>>25685695

>Horry (500g)

Advise that he purchase a new shield, since his dented one was suggested to not be so useful anymore. I'd feel safer if he had a solid helmet, but a leather cap isn't really anything to write home about.
>>
>>25685749

Osmose is less of a true spell, more of a magic technique. It costs no mana. With Osmose, the user can drain the mana of whomever or whatever it touches.

>>25685764

Saber is a spell cast into a magical staff. From the tip of that staff, a long, thin sword is conjured, evoking the power within the staff. For example, using Saber whilst wielding a Fire Staff would equip you, temporarily, with a brand of flames to sear at your opponents. The strength and durability of sword depends on the staff.
>>
>>25685778

The party page now includes all money given to you by Olbessa. A single tent will work for a party of five, a single Wardstone can be used thrice.
>>
>>25685798
>Saber is a spell cast into a magical staff.
Useless unless we gain a Black Mage or similar, then?
>>
>>25685778
Yeah definitely this, well minus saber since we use swords and it looks to be a Black tome. Replace with spark or thundara
>>
>>25685861

Or buy a staff at the weapon shop. You're proficient with them.
>>
>>25685889
Only if they come in the form of a pimp cane
>>
>>25685778

I'll second this. Don't really need saber since Cecil already has a sword; we can consider picking it up later if/when a staff that is worth using drops and Ferra won't/can't use it.
>>
>>25685778
Then in our case, Osmose, Spark, Phoenix down.
Ferra gets protect, save 1000

Yang, a phoenix down, 2 potions
Give remaining 600 to Ferra
Conara, 2 potions 2 wardstones, give remaining 1000 to Ferra and Cecil, Ferra 400, to total 2000 to buy cura, Cecil 600 to buy the leather armor, and steel Longsword.
Horry is welcome to buyhimself a steel shield and steel longsword, Conara will have enough left to cover the extra 200 Horry will need.
>>
>>25685889
Yes, but we may not always have the mana to cast Saber
>has osmose
WE'RE A RED MAGE, STAVES ARE FOR BLACK MAGES WITH NO DICKS, AND WHITE MAGES WHO NEED DICK
>>
>>25685778

Cecil: Osmose, Phoenix Down, Steel Longsword, Leather Armour total: 2660 gil

Ferra: Placate, you do not have enough to help her buy Protect, but she buys Ration x2 for herself so total is 1200 gil.

Shang refuses to buy a tent, seeing that you have one. Besides that, Wardstone, Potion x 3, Antidote x 2, further buys Rations x 2 total comes up to: 1440.

Conara: Declares she has no more need of potions, but will buy a second Phoenix Down, two Antidotes, a Wardstone and Ration x 2, her total coming to 1950.

And Horry will buy a Steel Shield, costing him 270 gil.

Confirm? Any changes you'd like to make?
>>
>>25685977
>AND WHITE MAGES WHO NEED DICK

>>
>>25686107

>>25686054

(Are we okay with this?)
>>
>>25686245
I'd like to see if we can pool enough to get protect or cura, preferrably protect.
But it looks good otherwise.
>>
(Quick system update. I've decided it's not feasible to expect players to be able to keep track of feeding themselves and their chocobo, given the length of the travels they'll be undertaking. From now on, simply put, 5 gil will be subtracted from the party each night per party member, including chocobo. Some party members [read: Shang] will be able to feed themselves, so they require no fee so long as you're in fertile land. That is all.)
>>
>>25686245
See if we can pool some of the requisitions money from everyone to get Protect or Cura. I would prefer Cura, because it can heal more serious wounds and organ damage that Cure and Potion can't.
>>
>>25686334
>good DMing
>2013

>>
>>25686379
that is a fair arguement, I thought protect would be better in that it might negate taking that damage in the first place, but we may not always have it up and ready, cura can be done after the fact, so yeah, my vote is now for cura
>>
>>25686277
Yeah, but remember that the way this Final Fantasy works, it doesn't matter how many Potions and Cures you have, they can only work as life support for more serious injuries that can only be healed by more powerful spells or a Phoenix Down.
>>
>>25686379
>>25686277

>>25686395
Traps and ambushes are what I'm afraid of.

Sage, how long does a Protect spell last?

>>25686404
Yes, get that 2nd level White spell now. Cura currently has the lead in which spell to get.
>>
>>25686404
Ask the party their opinion.
>>
>>25686412

That depends on the force of the blows. It will stop several arrows, but a few harsh strikes from a warhammer or a single blow from an Iron Giant's cleaver might break it down quicker.
>>
>>25686399
Cura can heal more serious wounds than Cure, so it's still more useful to have.
>>
>>25686448
This right here. go for Cura.
>>
>>25686416

Ferra glances between the two tomes. "Hmm... I think Cura would be best. I am already proficient at providing aid, but if I could heal the injuries that our current spells and Potions would be unable to, then I believe I would be of real help to the party."

Shang nods in agreement. "I can protect myself with my Ki techniques. I need no spell in that sense."

However, Horry and Conara are unsure. The Onion Knight screws up her lips. "... if I had Protection from my foe's blows, imagine with how much vigour I might be able to fight! We are not all Western monks with spiritual armour to protect us! If a blow should somehow slip past my Adamantoise Shell, a second shield would be most welcome!"

[ ] Cura

[X] Cura
>>
(I've also noticed that you are attempting to buy leather armour, which you are already wearing. Horry mentions this to you,and you gingerly place the armour back. You will now have 900 gil left after purchasing the second spell.)
>>
>>25686505
Maybe we wanted to GATTAI them.
>>
>>25686498

>>
>>25686483
>[x] Cura
Conara is too overconfident as it is; giving her Protect would only make her worse and make it much more likely for her to run into danger she can't easily overcome. Wouldn't want her to charge up to Hellond Highwind thinking she's hot shit with Protect up only for him to pierce right through it like he did the royal guard's armor.
>>
>>25686483
[x] Cura because if protect fails, and that Iron giant cleaves your big head in twain, you'll be glad Ferra is there to fix it. Not that an iron giant would ever strike someone as cute as you.
>>
>>25686483
>[x] Cura
>>
>>25686483
Sorry, but even if another shield was there, if you managed to get a serious injury then we wouldn't be able to get you back.
Your safety is what matters here, rather than how well you perform in battle
>>
>>25686483

>[x] Cura

Also, I'm surprised that nobody ever thought of this before (and that includes me):

>Acquire better Black/White Magic
>Find some secret order of Mystic Knights
>Lrn2Spellblade
>Have 1/3 of the hallowed Dual Wield-Flare Blade-Rapid Fire triumvirate
>>
>>25686483

That is true, Conara, but Cure can only heal so many wounds with one application. A protect spell can only work on so many blows, and does nothing against spells. Cura could mean the difference between life and death.

We can always get Protect later, anyhow.
>>
>>25686586

"So you say." She shrugs, not seeming willing to press the issue. And so, the Tome of Cura is bought and loaded into the caravan with the rest of your new stuff. The gang climbs in the back, Conara once again stretching along the driver's seat beside you.

"So, Cecil Pennyknight. Shall we be off and out of Corneria, towards our grand adventures and such?"
>>
>>25686630
"Of that we shall, Conara."
Our first stop will be Calim, and then it looks like we should take the road around Bandit's Wood to Dorter, then follow the river east then turn south into the Witchmarsh.
>>
>>25686679
Calim is on the road to Deling, not Dorter; seems like a waste of time.

We should ask our companions if they know anything in particular about Calim, Dorter and Deling, in an attempt to find the most productive route. Gathering information along the way could prove useful.
>>
>>25686679

Actually, you know of a second path. The way you arrived, a smaller road, not on the map and mostly through farmland. It passes by Sara's Town and another small farming village simply named Fairland, on its way to Deling. To Dorter or Deling, the trip is seventeen days long, but Dorter takes you closer to the Witchmarsh and since there are no roads, the travelling takes twice as long from either.

Which road would you like to take?

[ ] Calim-Dorter
[ ] Sara's Town-Fairland-Deling
>>
>>25686743
Calim-Dorter

Seems pretty straightforward.
>>
>>25686743
Calim-Dorter, the soonee we talk to Matoya, the sooner things can get going.
>>
>>25686743
>[ ] Sara's Town-Fairland-Deling
>>
>>25686743
>[x] Calim-Dorter
Pretty straightforward.
>>
>>25686718

"Dorter is a city of great trade, or so I've heard," you hear Ferra say from inside the caravan. "It's right in the heart of Corneria, taking merchant caravans from all four corners. I'm afraid I don't know too much, however... I've spent all my life in Corneria."

"And I, Mt. Hobusu." Seconds Shang.

"And I, Doga." Chirps Conara.

"And I, Fairland... oh, aye, Fairland's my hometown... my da and ma live there..." Horry rubs at his nose, looking to feel a pinch of discomfort. "I bet it'd be a mighty surprise for them to see me again. As for Deling, isn't that the city with the great big airship dock? You can see it from miles away, though I've never actually been there."
>>
>>25686811
>[x] Sara's Town-Fairland-Deling
We might be able to find some information about the airships Ser Highwind used at Deling. Maybe they even stopped here before stealing the crystal. Hell, we might even meet an airship captain crazy enough to help us for a while.
>>
>>25686811
>[x] Sara's Town-Fairland-Deling
I wanna check out those airship docks
>>
(I'm reading three for each. Perhaps a consensus can be reached?)
>>
Hmm... on one hand, the Calim-Dorter route leads us to a trade nexus of the continent, which could yield to some good gear if there's enough work to be found on the way.

The Sara's Town-Fairland-Deling route allows us to check where Ryara and Ser Hoskeep were heading in particular, and Dieling may allow us to get some info on Ser Highwind's airship type. With there being a massive airship hub there, there's bound to be some international trade going on there, and maybe some not-quite-legal stuff happening as well. Perhaps even some exotic information pertaining to higher levels of magic, or training for those with enough gil?
>>
>>25687004

(Well, you have the deciding vote. Where would you like to cast it?)
>>
>>25687048
Dorter
>>
>>25687048

After much deliberation...

>[x] Calim-Dorter

It's also a huge trading hub. Bound to be some black market stuff going on there with information and stuff... and we must reach Matoya. She knows how to track Ser Highwind, and it's likely that Hoskeep and Ryara are already heading over to Dieling to get some info. We should see if we can get any genuinely new information from the witch.
>>
>>25687141
>>25687114

And so you set off for the path towards Dorter. The journey takes a lot longer than previous times, thanks to the fact it is but a simple pair of yellow chocobo pulling your caravan instead of the stronger, more tenacious orange breed. It takes two days to even reach the Erstspear hunting ground. But the nightly camping gives you and opportunity to train, and you have much to train in. You bought a longsword in Corneria, but admittedly, the sword is a bit unwieldy for you. You're not quite used to its weight. Horry, however, has been playing with them all his life and would gladly train you. At the same time, he could spend his knights training Conara instead. The girl's clumsy display with her sword, as wafer thin as it is, shows just how new she is to the blade. Furthermore, if you let him train her first, that will give you the time you need to learn Osmose. Would you prefer Horry spend his nights on the road training you to use two handed swords or training Conara to use one handed swords?

[ ] Cecil trains with 2H Sword
[ ] Conara trains with 1H Sword, Cecil begins learning Osmose

Ferra is also having trouble deciding what to put her time towards. She has already stated to learn Holy, but that will take her much, much longer than it would to learn Cura. Placate would take her less time, still. Would you prefer she start learning a new tome? If she does, her progress learning Holy will be reset.

[ ] Abandon Holy for now, learn Cura
[ ] Abandon Holy for now, learn Placate
[ ] Keep learning Holy

You can check the progress of learning new abilities/spells in the party status page at any time.

>[x] Conara trains with 1H Sword, Cecil begins learning Osmose

Gotta bring all of our party members up to speed. Osmose will be handy for replenishing MP from enemies, or even from transferring MP from an unconscious friendly to someone who can better apply it.

>[x] Abandon Holy for now, learn Cura

Holy is a holy nuke, period. But she may not even be able to cast it when she does learn it, and Cura will come in handy immediately.
>>
>>25687328
This, she wanted to learn holy on her own iniative, I don't see why she should stop now. Then placate, then cura. It shouldn't take near as long to learn placate as cura or holy.
>>
>>25687279
>[x] Conara trains with 1H Sword, Cecil begins learning Osmose
If she's going to keep being cocky, we need to make sure she can at least partially back it up. Not to mention Osmose would be useful should we run out of spell casts during combat like last time.

>[x] Abandon Holy for now, learn Cura
As powerful as Holy might be, we don't have much in the way of healing right now, relying on basic potions and such, that clearly won't always be enough.
>>
>>25687279

And so, as you spend your time in the back reading through Osmose, chaining together as many of the symbols as you can in a sitting, Ferra does her best at Cura, although she's doing it at a slightly slower pace than you. Meanwhile, Horry teaches the Onion Knight the basics of using a one-handed sword effectively. However, after the first night of training, he requests that she be allowed to use the cheap sword you took from the burnt swordsman back in Bandit's Wood. As he asks this, you see the long gash he sports on his bicep. As Ferra heals it, he explains that Conara's magic blade is able to do some damage even if she misses entirely. You remember the slice of wind cutting at your cape, and loan your sword to him. The next day, your travels resume. Is there anything you'd like to talk about to any of them, or would you prefer to fast-travel through the days?
>>
>>25687496
Ask the group what they know about Artifacts. If they have magic, does it still have a cost? Are there any negatives to the positive effects of an Artifact?
>>
>>25687496
Ask their opinion on Olbessa and the King.

Also, find a little knife or dagger and hand it to Ferra, we need to toughen her up, it may be entirely possible that we're all dead, and she has to do the one thing she believes she cannot do.

Tell her to stab Cecil in the thigh, when she tries, parry her, tell her to try again, then parry her, either she's going to get angry and really try, when she gets to that point, stop her. Or she's going to break, and then we'll know just how far we'll have to build her up. Best to do this during some down time in camp.
>>
>>25687569

From under her robe, the young redhead pulls out a talisman hanging around her neck by a thin, silver coloured chain.

"I suppose this is what one might call an artefact... although it's a rather common one, made by the White Temple. It's a carving of Cosmos, see?" She holds it up for you to inspect. There's not much to see, really, but the shape of a woman in a flowing, hooded robe, her face serene but implacable. "When I'm wearing this, if I cast Cure on myself, I uses none of my mana. It won't work with higher level healing spells, I'm told, but that's useful, isn't it?"

And then Conara clears her throat loudly, laying her legs out across the floor of the caravan.

"When the fairies of the Feymarch told me I was going to be a Warrior of Light, they presented me with four magical artifacts of my own!" She boasts, first tapping the shield attached to one arm. "This is the shell of a day old Adamantoise. It'll be resistant to all kinds of damage! Swords, axes, arrows, naught'll scrape it!"

She tugs at the red scale mantle that reaches half way down her back.

"And this is made of salamander scales, woven together with enchantments! As long as I wear this, Fire will do as much as a duck's fart! And then of course, there's this!"

When she unsheathed that thin yellow blade, you, Ferra and Horry all flinch. But she's mindful of its power by now, apparently.

"Blessed by the Sylphs, you know what this does." She nods, before sheathing it again. You can't help but feel a bit underwhelming, now.
>>
>>25687496

I'm leaning towards fast-travel until something comes up, unless inter-party banter only occurs when we prompt it.
>>
>>25687708

You have no such knife. Unless you want to hand the Sylph Sword to an even more inexperienced girl.
>>
>>25687748
Would sharpening her staff at one end to a point make it less magically inclined?
>>
>>25687791

It's a simple metal rod for self-protection, it has no magical properties.
>>
>>25687800
I guess since it's made of metal, it can do the trick with a well placed blow. We can train her to use it for fighting along the way.
>>
>>25687845

It was part of her training, though to be honest, she's still not very good and is not like to be. She's not very strong.

>>25687708

Two more days pass before you find yourself deep in the thick of the Erstspear Hunting Wood, having camped in one of its groves the previous night. When you ask about the king and Olbessa, Ferra looks stunned.

"W-why are you asking...? Did you think they were... strange?"

"Olbessa was a true lady," Conara interrupts. "Like a queen from some story, wasn't she? But that king... he was nothing like what one might expect."

"Well, his daughter -is- missing," chimes in Horry. Ferra spilled the beans the previous night around the campfire, and he almost hopped on a chocobo to ride north, intending to rescue the princess alone. However, he has since calmed. "But what about you, Ser Cecil? You seem to have somethin' on your mind."
>>
>>25687885

(Sorry folks, but I'm going to have to cut it short for now. I got the last of the house cleaning and packing to do tomorrow, so I swore to myself I'd be off by 23:00 chantime. I should hope to be on tomorrow night, earlier still, but there's a chance I might not make it. In that event, I'll leave a post up saying so and will be around come Sunday instead. Hope you all sleep well, g'night.)
>>
>>25688007

Alrighty, see you then The Sage. Thanks for running!
>>
>>25688021

(And thanks for playing!)
