I think I've found a way to incorporate Juliana's "departure from canon" with the canon. By the end of VC2 all of the leaders of the GRA are gone and all information pertaining to the Artificial Valkyria project was lost with the sinking of the GRA main battleship. Now with Juliana being the sole Artificial Valkria alive, the rest of the world is going to try to obtain as much information and research from her to duplicate/improve the project (this is a bad thing). As she is currently in the infirmary recovering from her wounds, what I suggest is that Lanseal (namely Novak) fake her death, "officially" recording into history of Juliana's epic last stand before succumbing to the sheer mental and physical stress of the Artificial Valkria system. In reality, they mark her records as KIA and give her a new identity. Maybe they keep her at Lanseal (maybe as a staff member?) to protect her from the hands of those still interesting in duplicating the Artificial Valkyria.

Anyways, Julia's side chapter is actually kinda short (I think). We might have time for Tarin's.

>>25666331
You are JULIA BEECH, and currently, you're pretty sure you're in Hell. Well, if you replaced the fire and brimstone with mud and ash.

When the war started, you and your family were pretty sure that you would be safe. After all, Gallia was neutral nation and really had no interest in Europan wars, especially those between the Federation and Empire. Unfortunately, through a series of events you aren't even aware of, here you are, drafted into the Gallian militia and stuck in a trench line across the field from an opposing Imperial trench line.

And you are barely even twelve years old.

Because apparently "children are much smaller, more agile, and faster than adults", and "oh, the enemy wouldn't dare fire on them!", you got the unenviable job of being a courier. You haven't even been given your own weapon to defend yourself with. Even worse, you're in the middle of an offensive, which means men are pressing into enemy lines. Men that need a direct line of communication to the their commanders. And somebody's gotta carry that shit.

"Alright! I need a courier to step up!" An officer yells. "Wire duty!"

Fuck, if there was anything worse than carrying messages, it was lugging a goddamn spool of telephone wire on your back.

Unfortunately, the officer isn't fooled by your ploy. You look up and realize it's Darling. Shit. He's largely caught on to your tricks and makes every effort to toss you out into the frontlines when he can.

"Trying to duck out of your sworn duty again, eh private Beech?" Darling glowers at you. "Congratulations, you just volunteered for telephone duty."

"Asshole." You grumble as he picks you up by the collar and marches you out of your nice and warm little bunker into the cold and muddy trenches.

"Your objective is simple enough." Darling says as two of his men strap the wire spool onto your back. "Just make your way across the field and make contact with the allied troops on the other side."

Oh yeah, simple for him. He didn't have to brave the barbed wire, artillery shells, machine gun and sniper fire, and mines. Friggin bastard. The spool feels heavy on your back. You wonder how you'll ever lug this thing across no man's land.

"Next wave in thirty seconds!" Another officer down the trench yells, and you can see more men stacking up in the trench, getting ready to go over the top. Meanwhile, Gallian shells scream overhead in an attempt to suppress any entrenched Imperials.

>Go now, while the artillery is suppressing the defenders.
>Wait for the other men to charge. You can use them as a shield for your advance.

>>
>>25667595
You decide to wait for the next wave to start. At the very least you hope the MGs and snipers would be more distracted with the soldiers to concern themselves with you. You then hear a shrill whistle in the distance signalling the charge.

With one unified war cry, the Gallian soldiers charge out of the trenches and straight into the battle. You silently count to five and clamber over the trench to follow.

As expected, the machine guns start barking from the Imperial side, sending mud and blood flying everywhere. You try to ignore the falling Gallian soldiers, keeping your eyes and head locked looking forward to dodge anything that might come your way. You can hear metal squealing as the spool on your back spins. Unfortunately, the weight of the damn spool starts slowing you down, and the Gallian soldiers begin to outpace you, becoming small blobs in the distance. Isolated, you start becoming a more enticing target for snipers, and all to aware of the bullet impacts getting closer and closer to you.

Panicking, you leap into the nearest shell crater you can find. You land into an ankle deep puddle of mud and water, and suddenly see that you're not alone in the crater.

"Well hey there." The stranger says. You panic briefly, thinking he might be an Imperial, but you see Gallian markings and calm down somewhat, but not totally. There was a reason he was in this shell hole, after all.

"Hi." You say cautiously, getting ready to clamber out of the hole if you need to.

"No need to be scared." The man shrugs and goes back to polishing his sword. "Just taking a quick break."

"But seriously, what the hell are we doing here?"

"Me? I'm no coward, if that's what you're thinking." Dillon returns to polishing his shield. "I just like going at my own pace. Slow and steady, you know. Just waiting for the right moment."

"Which would be...?"

The first minute or so is rather uneventful, but once the Imps see movement in no man's land, they start zeroing in, and it's only a matter of time before bullets are plinking off Dillon's shield. Fortunately, the shield is big and thick, and DIllon seems to have no trouble hefting it, staying between you and the enemy. The spool continues to spin.

"You know." Dillon says casually, as if he doesn't notice the bullets flying his way. "You never tell me how you came to be here."

"How about you first?" You say.

"Well, not much for me, I just like helping out whenever I can." Dillon shrugs, or at least tries to while lugging that shield. "The army seemed the natural choice for me."

"Yeah well, you could say the I was the natural choice for the army." You say bitterly.

"Ah conscription. An unfortunate necessity in these times." Dillon frowns. "I take it you don't appreciate your lot in life?"

"Really, what gave that away?"

"Look on the bright side of life!" Dillon grins. "We at least have some exercise and fresh air!"

"You... are you even right in the head?" You ask.

"Probably not, but who is these days?" Dillon laughs.

"You've got a point there."

"Get down!" Dillon pushes you down and raises his shield. An artillery shell lands several dozen meters away, showering you with mud debris, though the worst is deflected by Dillon's shield.

"Fuck, do the Imps want us dead that badly?" You scowl.

"Oh no, that was our own artillery." Dillon says with his usual cheerful tone. "No worries. Their aim isn't very good either."

Okay, there was definitely something very wrong with this guy.

And you make it to the first Imp trench with no issues. You give our telephone line a quick tug, and breath a sigh of relief to see that it's still intact. Dillon scans the trench for a second before waving you in, notifying it's safe.

The inside of the trench is... pretty brutal. It's already been "cleared" by your own forces, but the floor of the trench is choked with bodies from both sides. The Imps didn't give this position up easily.

"I think it's time for another break." Dillon says, pushing a dead off an ammo crate and taking a seat.

However, in your search for loot, you grow careless, which proves to be a critical mistake. You hear something behind you, and thinking it's just Dillon checking in on you, you ignore the sound until thick arm wraps itself around your neck, lifting you off the ground.

"Heh, once I'm done with you you'll WISH I stuck you with this!" The Imp grins as he closes in.

However, he stops in his tracks when he sees the blade of a massive sword jutting out of his chest. The Imp just looks at the bloody blade stupidly, not quite comprehending just what happened.

"The only one getting stuck around here will be you." Dillon says coldly, twisting the blade. The Imp gurgles and falls limp. Dillon casually kicks the body off his blade and turns to you.

"Are you all right?" He asks, bending down and reaching a hand out to you.

"T-Th-Th-Th-" You blubber before just breaking down in tears completely, something you could never afford to do in the cramped trenches and bunkers for fear of showing weakness. But you just couldn't take it any more. The death, the destruction, all those close calls. Here, in this empty trench with a complete stranger that you had just met, you just let it all out.

To his credit, Dillon doesn't say anything. He just hold you close and lets you cry it out.

"Be brave, little one." Dillon says reassuringly. "This won't be the last time you'll need those tears."

After what seems like an eternity, you finally pull yourself together. You loot the dead Imp, but all you can find is a revolver with three bullets left. His rusty knife isn't even worth stealing.

"Feeling better now?" Dillon asks. "We must be going soon."

"Y-yeah." You nod as Dillon helps you sling the wire spool back on.

"We will head to the next trench line. It's not far." Dillon points. "However, getting there will be a bit tricky..."

The trek seems uneventful at first. Everything is deathly quiet except for sporadic gunfire and artillery shelling in the distance. Dillon is extremely cautious, checking every corner and nook and cranny for potential enemies, and finds none.

However, no matter how cautious you are, fate sometimes decides to throw a fast one. You and Dillon round a corner and come face to face with an entire squad of Imps. They were no doubt part of a force sent to retake the trench.

"Run, little one!" Dillon shouts, charging forward and slamming into the formation with his shield. Since they were all stuck in the narrow confines of the trench, the entire squad is pushed back. "RUN!"

Looking around desperately, you manage to find a discarded grenade. Without thinking, you shrug off your spool, unpin the grenade, and dash toward the melee.

"Dillon! Get down!" You yell.

Without thinking, as if he realized what you were up to, Dillon instinctively kneels down, the grenade sailing over his head.

Being packed so tightly in the trench the Imps don't stand a chance. The explosion pulps pretty much all of them, with Dillon barely being protected by his shield.

"Thank you, little one." Dillon says, surveying the carnage. "You are much braver than I thought."

"It was nothing" You say, grinning at your accomplishment.

However, your grin melts away when you see something shift behind Dillon. Apparently, one of the Imps survived the grenade blast and has gotten up, aiming his rifle straight at Dillon's back.

"No!" You scream. Without thinking, you run forward and push Dillon out of the way and raise your stolen revolver. You fire all three shots into the Imp, finishing him off.

However, the Imp also gets a couple of shots off. Most of them miss, but you feel a sharp pain in your left shoulder as a rifle round shatters your collarbone. You don't even have time to scream before blacking out from the pain.

When you regain consciousness, you can see the soft blue glow of a ragnaid as Dillon kneels over you, his face a combination of concern and horrible guilt. You try to say something reassuring, but you lose consciousness again.

When you wake up again, you find yourself being carried in Dillon's arms, with the annoying squeak of the spinning spool meaning he's put it on in your place. You try to move but a sharp pain in your shoulder stops you.

"Be still, little one, the wound is serious. Not even the ragnaid could fully heal it." Dillon whispers to. "Be still and rest. You don't need to worry any more."

And the rest of the way, he begins humming a song to you. The lyrics are pretty violent and warlike.... but it's somehow soothing too, coming from him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4K1q9Ntcr5g

However, his song is finally interrupted when he starts calling for a medic.

"Holy shit, what happened to her!?" You hear a gruff voice call out.

"She was carrying wire here, and she got shot by a sniper." Dillon says to him. "She's a brave girl. She deserves to go home."

"With a wound like this, I'd deck the guy who'd say anything otherwise!" The soldier growls. "Thanks a lot."

"Now if you excuse me, I'm needed elsewhere." Dillon then turns to you. "Be brave, little one. I'm needed elsewhere now."

And with that, Dillon disappears into the fog of war.

"You alright, kid?" The gruff soldier kneels over you, wrapping a clean bandage over your shoulder. "Don't worry, Uncle Largo will make sure you get home. That's a promise!"

But you barely hear him. You're too busy looking for Dillon, but he's gone.

Afterwards, you were discharged for the military due to grievous injury, and even got partial disability benefits. However, when you returned home, you had two goals on your mind.

One, you'd find Dillon, no matter what it took.

Two, you'll never go into battle again without at lest several inches of armor plate between you and the enemy.

>So Tarin time it is, then!

You are TARIN, a fifteen year old Darcsen who had the misfortune of being born in the Empire. Ever since you were born, all you've known was avoiding Darcsen Hunts and ambushing Imperial patrols. It's... not exactly the ideal life, but a necessary one to survive in this environment.

However, things have hit a bit of a snag, in that your father, Edwin, and the leader of your group, has been captured. Fortunately, the Imps don't seem to realize quite yet who they've gotten, as there hasn't been any increased security or activity from the police station he's being held in.

Normally you'd never attack a fortified place like a police station head on, but you've got no choice. After all, this was your father being held prisoner. Fortunately, the town has a rather high Darcsen worker population, so it was relatively simple to infiltrate. You yourself are disguised as a regular worker. The plan was to quickly eliminate the door guards, then assault the station in a surprise attack.

However, the only problem is that there's three guards in front of the door instead of two, and all you've got is your knife and holdout pistol, which only has one shot. You'd only reliably be able to take out two of the guards.

But you feel the eyes of your fellow Darcsen resistance fighters on you. The start of the operation all hinged on you. If you felt things were too dangerous, they would back off.

And everything seems to pass by in an awful blur. In one seemingly smooth motion, you grab the guard's rifle and give him a swift kick in the groin, causing him to let go of the weapon. With the rifle in your grasp, you spin it around and manage to see the look of horror on the guard's face before pulling the trigger.

At this point, your comrades have already initiated their own roles in the attack. Several partisans start throwing pipe bombs, molotov cocktails, and other improvised explosives through the windows. Another team of partisans secure the street, which is now empty as people flee from the melee.

Knowing you've only got less than ten minutes before reinforcements arrive, you have to move fast. You take the rifle and any ammo you can find off the slain guards and follow your fellows into the station. No words are spoken. Everybody has a clear role to play. Yours is...

>>25674059
As much as you'd like to personally rescue your father, you assigned task is to assassinate the station chief. While he hasn't done anything in particular to earn the ire of your group, the mere act of killing him would serve to sow confusion in the ranks, which would buy you and your group valuable time to escape. If the Imps had one weakness, it was that they had a very rigid and inviolable chain of command.

As you move through the station, you see that it's less of a fight and more like a full on massacre, as your group as the element of surprise. However, you do hear several spots of prolong fighting where some Imps have managed to set up an organized defense.

Recalling the map of the station, the chief's office should be on the top floor. Moving up the stairs, you see several of your fellow partisans stacked up at the landing leading to the second floor.

"Problems?" You ask.

"The Imps have set up a barricade up there." One of the partisans explains. "They got that hallway locked down tight."

Grabbing a molotov cocktail, you wait for your fellow partisans to put some fire on the barricade, which is merely a pile of hastily erected desks and tables. The Imp officers are forced to take cover, giving you a chance to dash forward and close the distance. You toss the molotov at the barricade.

Well, the good news is that the barricade is no longer a defensive position on the account of it being on fire.

The bad news is that you can't cross it, on account of it being on fire.

The sorta good and maybe bad news is that the station itself is probably going to be the thing catching fire next.

Not something I'd usually pick, but that's how Tarin seems to be doing this mission. Plus time really is of the essence.

Yeah, sorry about that guys, but I gotta cut this session short. Looks like I was a bit too ambitious.
