You are Captain Percius Aurex. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure and to escape your status as a political pawn. For the last ten standard years you've been among the pirate crew of Captain Li Hariso, but now your time has finally come. Now a Captain in your own right, you command the newest addition to the wolfpack's raiders, a 1.4 km ship of Imperial origin. As your officers and crew ready your ship for your first adventure as a Captain, you conclude negotiations with Captain Hariso.

"Seventy-five twenty-five."

Hariso studies you for a moment, his eyes narrow as his gaze focuses. "Eighty-twenty. You're not going to get more with such a low first request."

"Then I graciously accept your offer, Captain Hariso." You exchange a grin and exchange a handshake to seal the deal before continuing. "Were it not for the information I received from one of the Sororitas, I would have tried to haggle for more, but they'll make up the difference." Hariso raises an eyebrow at your words before laughing in an oddly relaxed manner. "You should be careful, Percius. Or have you not heard the stories of those bolter bitches biting off the swords of foolish pirates? They say it happened to old Magos Hall long ago, made him the bitter old coot he was!"

"I'll be sure to avoid such a fate. It has been a pleasure doing business with you, Captain Hariso, but the shipping lanes will not raid themselves." As you rise, Hariso raises his hand to stop you. "One of the better attempts I've seen, Percius. You're quite clever for a noble, but there is the issue of you being one of my captains within the wolfpack now. I'll be taking a five percent cut of your ship's plunder from now on, but if you feel more inclined to not bother hiding things from me, four-hundred wealth beyond that cut will free you from the trouble." The man's tone makes it clear that this isn't negotiable. "Good luck, Captain Percius."

As you are led back to the lighter bay, you ponder your next move.

Let us take a look at the other Iron Monks Containers. It would be strange for all the crates to contain the sapphires...

Also, if we end up accidentally-ing the armsmen every mission, does that mean less loot shares for the crew, thusly more for us?
>>
>>25644012
>>25643997
So, just to make sure I'm understanding this rightly, we've just struck out deal for the percentage of salvage from the ship that we'll be giving to Hariso vs that we'll be keeping for ourselves? And that didn't include the Iron Monk crates, which we're keeping for ourselves?

>>25644181
I suppose we could run the ship with a skeleton crew to reduce the, was it 25% that crew takes? but then we'd suffer penalties to ship things, which we probably don't want. And we've got to otherwise come back to planets or space stations to get more crew that we lose in operations, so yeah. Not to mention what would it do to morale to know that we're trying to kill off as many of them as we can manage just to pad our pockets?
>>
>>25644058
>>25644181

As you'll have to remove the containers from the secret compartment to do this, would you like to lock down the local area to traffic or otherwise maintain the compartment's secrecy from the crew or visiting specialists from Hariso or Wilson's ships?
>>
>>25644256
Loot from captured ship: 80/20 split, didn't tell him about Iron Monks stuff.

His following terms: Hariso gets 5% of your ship's haul, with a buyout of 400 wealth to end it.

Crew share is a fixed % covering everything from the general crew's pay, minor repair costs, resupply of basic supplies in port, fuel for the ship and lighters and just general 'ship stuff' that someone will take care of so you don't worry about it. There may be times when additional funds may be required for it or taken from it, depending on your success. [if you go too long without making a big score, you might find yourself paying to restock supplies or minor parts with your own wealth]

>>25644181

Armsmen will be more expensive to replace than to pay, but they protect your crew population as ablative HP and thus prevent penalties from losing crew.
>>
>>25644343
Okay, sounds good. Nicking up for the hell of it. In this case, let's wait until after our bosses are offboard before we open the crates. Ideally until we're in another star system but somehow I doubt that the majority of the thread would be willing to wait that long, so mayhaps a medium ground of just until they're gone?
>>
>>25644402

They'll leave your ship once you set out for a raid. They're just helping finish up minor repairs and such from the boarding and getting your crew settled/trained a bit where needed.
>>
>>25644549
I vote we block off a small area then, or we rope in some of our more trusted officers to haul the already opened crates into the safe room in the captains quarters
>>
>>25644258

In that case, let us plan a little raid to test the new ship and her crew. We need to know what she's good at and where she's lacking...
Gives us a reference point in regards to improvements and upgrades...
>>
>>25644628
Sounds good to me. We've got a few months until we leave with the rest of the wolfpack to do stuff, right? So maybe there's some piracy to be done in the meantime? We're following a crusade fleet, yes? Surely there must be some supporting elements of an edge force of the back of the fleet that wouldn't be missed should it go missing? Or even just some merchants or what have you hanging around, making with the readyness to set up monopolies on newly conquered worlds?
>>
So.... I know it is a sensitive issue, but it needs to be dealt with sooner or later.
The Sisters... What are we going to do with them?

I still hold that the Angry one will make for good conversation and philosophising and trolling with hats... while the PTSD one, once mentally sound, could make up for our Medicate's lack of human emotion...

That I'd rather not get involved with Kerr... at least with our first impressions being ransoming off two Sororitas...

The lighter flight to your ship is short, but provides you with an impressive view of your ship's utilitarian nature as the pilot cuts the smaller craft's engines and reorients the cockpit to provide you with a breathtaking view. Caseblanco's massive sand dunes are the perfect backdrop for your ship, highlighting the simple prow and the six dorsal macrocannon batteries of your ship in a way that almost makes her look like a mighty cruiser. Only the Raven-class transport and it's five kilometers of overshadowing bulk betray the sense of power your ship possesses in this moment.

Landing in one of your ship's lighter bays, you quickly locate Armswoman Ana. "Round up what is left of third platoon and block off the corridors around the compartment we found our two friends in. I need a look inside and would prefer it stayed quiet." With a nod, she hurries off while you make a bored path toward your quarters to retrieve the keys to your loot. Still not satisfied you've given Ana enough time, you head toward the bridge to check on Keller. Once more finding your friend distracted with some business and a new pot of recaff just nearing completion, you liberate the whole pot a smile toward the lone crewman that notices you. As you slip away, you hear Keller swear loudly. Enjoying a refreshing sip of recaff, you make your way toward where third platoon should have gathered by now.
>>
>>25645302

Emergency bulkheads in the area have been lowered for inspection, though you note that only the one by Ana has completely lowered. "Systems appear mostly functional, Captain. Let me clear a path for you." Grabbing a vox com from her shoulder, she politely nods and smiles. "Captain needs passage, cog heads. Make a hole!" As the massive bulkhead opens to allow you a narrow passage you find the tech adepts of third platoon and a hulking cargo servitor awaiting your arrival. Soon enough you've found that nine of the remaining ten containers all contain the so called 'nebula' sapphires, though none are anywhere near the size of the fist-sized ones from before. With the containers being returned to their hiding place by the servitor, you disengage the final lock and slowly open the lid.

You freeze with the lid only partially open as the bulkhead begins to move once more. Looking over the crate, you see Elise step through the narrow gap before the bulkhead closes swiftly behind her. "News from Hariso, Captain. The slaves have been sold and our cut will be delivered in silver within the hour."

"How did you get past Ana? I'm the only one that should have been allowed past Ana." Rising, you step beside the container as Elise offers a pout. "That is the first thing you say to me after you let Orsola play around in my chest?" You stand your ground against your friend and her stubborn nature, your mind thinking of a dozen retorts.

"Interjection. Container. Omnissiah." Both you and Elise shift your attention to the tech adept staring into the container, then onto the source of the golden reflection that... gold. The container is filled with gold bars.

"Oh Percius, you shouldn't have."

"Well, there goes that surprise... I suppose in celebration of this haul, everyone who took part in the finding and securing of this gets either a Sapphire Or an Ingot..."

"And I suppose you can have one as a belated 'get well soon' gift..."

"Now, I believe that we should keep these crates as emergency funds should we hit turbulent times or find ourselves short on funds for any given reason. What do you think of this idea XO Eberhardt?"
>>
>>25645629
"Oh you know me. Some people say diamonds are a girl's best friend but I figured you wouldn't mind gold." Give a grin and put our hat at a jaunty angle. "But seriously, this will go as standard loot. That means ten percent to officers, twenty five to crew, and the rest for moi."

Oh dear. Somehow there was a terrible accident and he or she was crushed to death under a pile of gold bars.

Once again, I heavily suggest that we keep this as a 'Rainy Day Fund', as it never hurts to have some physical capital locked away....

I thought we made a deal with him that we got to keep what WE found... he only knew about the sisters, but we found the crates with them so......

Rainy day fund.

If we go hauling out secret loot and passing it around, there's a risk the crew will come to believe we have yet more loot hidden and someone might shank us for it.

Besides, knowing /tg/ dice, we'll probably need some extra cash to hire new armsmen or repair damage sooner or later.
>>

>>25645782

"Oh, you know me. Just thought I'd be dramatic." Tipping your hat to a jaunty angle, you give your head a little wobble for effect. "Reserve funds for a rainy day, I think. XO Eberhardt?"

"We should count it first. Well, you strong, uninjured men should. I'll just double check the count." Elise smiles weakly, pointing to her wound. "New ribs aren't exactly ready for me to lift gold around."

You set about removing and counting the gold bars with Adept Orinth, then returning them to ensure the count is correct. "Eighty bars, Captain. Verified twice." Elise's grin at the number matches your own, despite the ache in your arms and back from moving the hefty bars. Adept Orinth carefully seals the container once more before ordering the servitor to return it to the compartment.

"Eighty bars of gold, average weight 12.44 kilograms with deviance of point-zero-zero-three favoring heavy. Total estimated mass nine-hundred ninety-five point three kilograms, possible minor deviance." Adept Orinth's face is unaugmented, but betrays no emotions as he speaks. "I will wipe the mind of this servitor immediately, unless you feel it should suffer an unforeseen destructive incident, Captain."

Twenty wealth, easily. Your mind barely registers the fact that you've doubled your possessed wealth with just this container alone, before even attempting to fence the other eleven.

We need to boost our crew allotment, So that's Frontier worlds, fuedal and feral worlds, and pirate bases.

Frontier for trade and slaves
Feudal for food, trade, recruits and slaves
Feral for slaves, poor recruits, assassins
Pirate bases for armsmen, slaves, trade, allies, and enemies.

Machine? How much for Shark troop transports? Fifty men easy and gear, or less and fortifications, and is workable as an aerospace dogfighter.

Matter of fact, What are our options for troop transports?
Possible armored vehicles as well? If we go on a raid, all the better to have something the locals cant stab or overwhelm.
>>
>>25646687

This is good.
>>
>>25646687

Your crew allotment is full and was formed from a mixture of pirates living [sort of stored, in a way] upon Captain Wilson's ship and some recruits from Caseblanco.

500 Armsmen from across the wolfpack have volunteered and joined your crew. They're a mixed lot, but most have some level of experience and the majority have carapace-armored voidsuits.

Shark assault boats will likely clock in at about 50 wealth a pop before accounting for mark up. They're rare even in the Imperial Navy, really.

Short break for dinner, if you guys would figure out what kind of world, system, or other site you wish to look for, that would be awesome.

Some ideas that I recall being mentioned include:

>battle sites
>ship graveyards [more likely to fall under battle sites in this case]
>Pirate/independent worlds/stations
>almost anything you can think of

Note that anything Imperial is certain to know your ship was lost, and trade with such locations will likely be in the form of you guys raiding it. You currently have 4 arvus lighters for small craft, which limits raid possibilities.

I apologize for the even slower pace than normal. Still a bit distracted by things.
>>

You know where they're not rare? Chaos fleets.. TO THE EYE OF TERROR!

Seriously though, battle sites and/or ship graveyards.
>>
>>25647151

they're even more rare in chaos fleets. They use Dreadclaws.
>>

>>
Wait, when did Privateer Quest change protagonists?
>>
>>25647246
but the shark assault boat is the go to assault craft for the imperial navy in battlefleet...

Ok then, What about Other troop transports, if we find a planet, no way are we going to settle for being able to send down a few dozen men in the course of an hour with no support.

And what about armored vehicles?
>>
>>25647056
Are they that rare? I'm pretty sure that they have to be fairly common, considering the amount of space hulks and wrecks a ship might come across.
>>
>>25647355
I dunno, the Arvus is an average availability, the Aquila is scare, the Guncutter is a Very rare one as well.

Also, here's a retrofitted system ship fitted for short burn warp trips for food or other support between nearby systems.
http://pastebin.com/Pjk87dq2
It looses it's weapons, and replaces them with a ward engine and gellar field.
>>
>>25647341
>>25647355

Sharks are only carried by Imperial battleships, unless that has changed.

>>25647341
As for other transports, there are Gun-cutters, Halo Barges [can lift small armored vehicles], Shuttles and Heavy Lift Shuttles [a sort of catch-all for local production transports].

If you can find a 40k ground vehicle somewhere and either email a link or mention it in a Q&A session of a thread, it is likely available somewhere. The main problem with armored vehicles will be maintaining a craft to deploy and recover them.
>>

If no one else has suggestions beyond 'battle sites' for where you want to try and raid/loot, we'll just go with that, then.
>>
>>25647705
>Godfather toll booth / Bolivian Army ending
But those are entirely different outcomes! One is quite definitive, while the other is at least somewhat ambiguous as to the character's fate.

Anyway, it's a bit difficult to suggest more specific sites to raid this early in the quest, what with not knowing much about the sector we're in right now.
>>
With your rainy day fund secured and hidden, you give the word to wipe the servitor's mind. As the bulkheads slowly retract, you leave the adepts scurrying about the servitor as they offer prayers. "Executive officer Eberhardt, I believe I have some plotting to do for our first adventure. Would you care to join me?" Elise simply rolls her eyes, her left hand removing the jaunty angle from your hat. "Did you ever figure out which way the ship flies, Captain?" "... Shut up, Miss Eberhardt." She'll never let you live that down, it seems.

The two of you soon find yourselves combing through information on dozens of systems and planets in the sector. Elise is quite entertained by your defeat in Assassin and the short tale of Caseblanco that she missed out on, while you find several stories of her home quite interesting after pulling up a world much similar to her own. Well, once. The limited information available seems to suggest that the world was ravaged during something called the 'Third Ionian Crusade'. Pulling up what information you can find on this 'crusade' finds that it was the last of three shockingly short wars against separatists that fairly recently engulfed an entire subsector. In short order, Elise locates your own ship's home: Mechrite. "A high-population civilized world that produced large numbers of machinery. Home of the Imperial Navy's main port in the subsector, 'Faith's Rock', the world was lost along with the vast majority of the naval forces in the sector. Subjected to exterminatus for it's sins, despite." Elise pauses, looking at you with an strangely glum expression. "They doomed the world despite a loyalist uprising seizing the majority of the anti-orbital defenses. Emperor... how could they?"

"A fair point. I must admit, That I had not fully thought that particular plan through to any great extent... I have the name of a man who would be willing to negotiate, though that man is Alexander Kerr... And from what I hear, he is not on particularly good terms with the Iron Monks, meaning that we might be able to use him for information and the occasional job when ship escorts start becoming problematic... So beginning a potential business relationship with a ransom might not be the best course of action...

Although, that Sororita who is being treated, I feel the Medicate may be in need of a more human touch. Orsola is excellent at her work, but I'm sure, as you are aware, she does lack a certain.... empaty...
Then again, I may be putting too much faith in my exquisite taste in Millinery, and my own charismatic charms.... What does my XO think on this matter?"

Elise gives a long sigh as you explain your millinery and charm based plot. "Percius, surely you don't believe that your charms are going to turn a pair of Sororitas to your pirate crew? Did your world not have constant reminders of their unshakable faith and loyalty?" Her hand rubs the side of her brow in a small circle before wiping across her eyebrows. "As for Kerr, I don't see any other way for you to garner his attention beyond the ransom, and it may even be a favorable start. You could have easily killed them or worse, and collecting a ransom isn't the worst of ways to show you're willing to talk instead of attack. I'm afraid I'm not aware that one of the prisoners is being treated, care to fill me in?"

Your XO's brow furrows as you inform her of sister Jessira's condition, her hand moving to her jaw as her finger gently taps at her temple. "Dangerous. The other one is clearly hoping to be ransomed, so long as she believes she has a way out she'll hopefully stay aimed at it. It's what I would do, at least. The other one... for all we know she could harm herself or others blindly and without any warning, even her sister. Or she could be completely passive and just be a vegetable. All I can say is that I don't like it, Percius."

"It seems like you could use some more time to recover. Go rest up, I'll need you in top form for our first run. Wouldn't want you to miss out on the 'Maiden Voyage'." You offer a soft smile to your officer.

"I've had plenty of sleep recently, Captain. I've got your plans to look into and second guess, after all."

thanks for the bumps. If anyone has more stuff to ask Elise or any general questions for the quest, feel free to post them and I should be able to give them a response before resuming later.

I also highly advocate use of sage unless we're nearing page 9 or 10 and need the bump.

What is Percius' favorite type of liquor/spirits/alcoholic drink?
>>
>>25657158

That seems like something the players should figure out.
>>
>>25657158
>>25658478

Well, considering Percius is of Noble birth and seems to consider himself a 'Gentleman of Fortune', he would most likely enjoy a single glass of something (like port or whiskey) in the 'evening' or when he has 'Company'...

He doesn't seem the type to drink often or in quantities...

His preference is most likely towards more expensive drinks, though he will 'nurse' his glass throughout the evening meaning that a single bottle will go a long way...

It is likely that due to time spent in bars that he will have a favoured 'cheap' liquor, probably bottled rather than from a tap...

If/When drunk, he probably splits his time between spinning tales about the grandness of the various hats he owns/has seen, and trying to steal hats from anyone who has them... most likely resulting in him wearing all the hats at once...

Those who know him know of this behaviour, and usually encourage it by 'finding' rather strange hats and encouraging him to wear them...

How does that sound?
>>
>>25658716
Sounds fine.
My opinion doesn't count for much, though. I don't drink alchohol, I just make it.
>>
>>25658804

To be fair, neither do I...

also, I think we should make a character synopsis for Percius. Just a paragraph to give a general idea of his thought process and drives...

so far, all I can think of is 'Chivalrous' and 'Hats'...
>>
>>25658716

your officers all find your obsession with hats a bit odd, but chalk it up to your noble birth.

>>25659066

That is a nice little idea.

While I'm still running around, responses to >>25651956

Well it was voted that we'd hit Site 4, so I suppose we should let the rest of the crew know. As for the sisters.... I am not good with this sort of thing but I guess try to send a message before we go on our raid to the guy we're trying to ransom them too. Let him know the situation, etc. Like Elise said, the fact that we've taken pains to ensure their safety could be a boon in negotiations with him if we play our cards right.

As far as drives go, I don't think we should be too complex - we want to be rich and powerful.
Aside from that, we want hats. And we will resolve any lingering family issues if we get the chance.

As far as his methods are concerned, he likes to be the gentleman and achieve goals/objectives with minimum force and minimum fuss for everyone involved, but he acknowledges that as a luxury.

He will not hesitate to get his hands dirty if that's what it takes. If a little genocide is what's needed to score, then it's time to bring out the genocide machine.

As a side note, I am very much in favor of keeping our name off of the Imperium's shit list, which is why I'm not very fond of ransoming people off. They will just paint a target on our skull.

Speaking of the Sisters... What order are they from?

Forgive my insistance on 'recruitment', I keep having flackbacks..... or rather flashforwards, to Athe.... and I keep seeing the PTSD sister as a long term investment...

>Athe
Athe was not a member of the Adepta Sororitas, nor was she converted to your service.
>>
>>25659787

well then. It seems that I have once more fallen prey to warp-madness....

Then again, I also remember things that have never happened so meh....

I blame all the colours of the warp..... so many colours....

But Athe Was Inquisition yes? She at least had connections with the Sororitas....

Though in my defence I was aware she was not converted to our service....

Either way, I seem to have gone very wrong somewhere.... Apologies for it....
>>
>>25659847

The only information you ever gathered was that she was raised in a Schola Progenium. It was implied her mother may have been a Sororitas.

I'm seeing 1 vote for contacting Kerr and 1 vote disliking the ransom idea.

We're surely off to Site 4.
>>
MS, a couple of questions if you will;
Firstly, Would we get hidden modifiers if we provided actual responses rather than just an action? As in writing what to say instead of 'Call Kerr and ransom Sisters'...
and Secondly, is Percius's story going to be as Crazy as Elesh's?

also, is it only MachineSpirit, Noko, Woodsman and myself here at this time or do we have other anon lurkers???
>>
>>25660319
>bonuses for actual responses

Yes. In fact, they only reason Angry sister even responded to you with a counter offer was due to such modifiers. The more you give me to work with, the better your modifier can be. I'll never penalize your rolls for attempts, but if you give me something that makes no sense after 2 other people read it as well, you'll simply get no bonus.

Percius' story could go either way. The hat thing suggests crazy, though.

Once this tie is broken, I'll continue.
>>
>>25660462
been lurkin and catching the end of your quests for a while, personally i love the crazy hat angle
>>
>>25660462
thanks for the info.

Personally I would like to find out more about Kerr before we attempt contact with him... I don't like dealing with unknowns. Especially when they are the head of a Rogue Trader Dynasty...

Also, does anyone have suggestions for Percius's appearance? I feel like doing some more super shitty drawfagging at the moment, and thought that I may as well ruin his image...
Bonus points to less shitty drawing if a base image see; like this but with x,y,z... is provided...

Known information on Rogue Trader Alexander Kerr:
>His father and Captain Menexel [the guy you killed] served together during the Third [Ionian] Crusade.
>Will allegedly pay ransoms for Sororitas
>'No friend of the Iron Monks or Order of Bloody Tears'
>Likely on/at Folkvangr, or contactable through that planet
>His father saved Sister Jessira's mother and two other Sororitas during some incident on Folkvangr. Iron Monks there died
>"Dynasty's connection to [Folkvangr] will doom them"
>'Kerr' was part of the ciphered notes from Captain Menexel's desk
> Captain Wilson's take on Kerr: "A decent, pious man and enemy of the Iron Monks, his popularity among crusade veterans and Sector Governor shield him from direct reprisals. Continues family's work rebuilding some war-ravaged world, but hampered by Iron Monks. May have had an ill-fated affair with Order of Bloody Tears' Cannoness."
>>
>>25660775
>>25660806

we'd still need a reason to be worth his answering us, and the ransoming of the sisters is the only thing which we know will get his attention...
>>
>>25660885
I meant giving him the sisters without yano making him pay a huge ransom, as a act of good will perhaps, might lead to a good partnership or information.
>>
>>25660937
Ehhh.... I somehow doubt he'd want anything to do with some pirates once we lose our leverage over him.
>>
>>25660961
He's a rogue trader not many of them are completly on the straight and narrow
>>
>>25660937
a fair point...
Maybe a Rogue Trader such as himself might have the resources to provide us with a better value of the 'Nebula Sapphires'...

>>25660961
Also a fair point...

>>25661041
And a Third Fair point...

Judging his characteristics from what we know, I would hazard a guess that while he would not directly employ us for any reason, he would not be opposed to 'buying' materials from us, especially if they might have once been possessed by the Iron Monks...
But he does seem of a Honourable and Noble persuasion, so we can rule out being best of friends with him...

"I'm wounded that you think so lowly of my charms, though I suppose you are simply being objective in the matter." With a sigh, you remove your hat and place it over your heart. "I can hardly be blamed, though. I've been under my own spell since birth." Elise simply shakes her head at your mockery of dramatics, her eyes rolling. "Do I need to get your serious hat, Captain?"

"Killjoy." Returning your hat to it's proper position, you counter your XO's cheeky grin with a frown. "I'll have to request that Lord Wilson's astropath contact Folkvangr and Kerr, unless I want to pay for the services of one. Either way, I'll be giving someone information."

"Folkvangr is in the same subsector as Vectes, I believe." Elise quickly digs through a set of data slates, placing her index finger upon the slate as she reads. "Subsector Ionium. They're even on one of the old trade lanes in the ship's data banks. Two jumps apart. If we're to get a response before we depart, you should have that message sent immediately, Percius."

>Send Message via Lord Wilson's Astropath?

send message via Signor Ferrari's Astropath. Being an Information Broker, he will find out one way or another. at least this way we know what he will find out...

Message is as follows;
"Mr Kerr. I have acquired a pair of Sororitas from the Order of Bloody Tears, They provided you as someone who would care for their return. I would like to engage you in negotiations over their release from my custody."
>>
>>25661351
Can i suggest we include our name in this message, other than that short sharp and to the point I like it,
>>
>>25661351
>>25661392

Also, let's get Elsie's opinion on it. A second opinion never hurts...
>>
>>25661351
>>25661392
>>25661423

"Sounds good, my only concern is the information broker. Is he going to charge you to deliver any response? And I guess it brings up the question of why you're paying a stranger when Lord Wilson is would provide it for free or for less. Is there something behind that I should be aware of?" Elise's voice betrays her worry over the last question.
>>
>>25661530
Hmm good point though wilson did seem to know him the way he reacted to the mention of his name does make me think they arent on good terms, could just be me being paranoid though.
>>
>>25661530

The reason is twofold.
Firstly, I would be impolite to impose upon Lord Wilson in this manner as it would make it seem as though I am only using his resources.
Secondly, Making it easy for the Information Broker to obtain such information could prove useful at a later date when certain things need to be kept secret.
On a different matter, Would you know anyone who might be able to provide us with an accurate appraisal of the Nebula Sapphires? I was given a 'Maximum' Value of 10000 Thrones, but judging by the reaction when I withdrew the Sapphire, I believe that it is actually worth a substantial amount more, though I am not knowledgeable in this matter...

Picking up a spare data slate, you quickly draw up your message for Alexander Kerr and leave Elise to browse through further information as you step onto the bridge. "Alert all crew to prepare for departure in the near future and make sure we don't leave anyone behind. Someone call Ana and Tes to the bridge immediately." Orders received, your crew begins scrambling about the bridge, several speaking into vox units to various parts of the ship. Ana and Tes arrive quickly, and you soon have them off with your message to meet with Signor Ferrari. Standing upon your bridge, you soak in the feeling of command as Advinessa's voice carries across the vox speaker beside you. "Plasma reactor online. Augers online. Gellar field on standby. Macrocannon batteries online. Chief Enginseer reporting all ship's systems nominal with a point-zero-two variance. Ship's machine spirit is eager and awaiting orders to depart, Captain Aurex."

"We will not be departing just yet, Advinessa. It will be a few hours at least."

"Apologies, Captain. Regardless, we are prepared to depart upon your command."

The navigator Erin Veritas steps onto the bridge, soon striding toward you. "Captain, I assume you wish a course plotted through the immaterium?" A hint of uncertainty lingers within her voice, and the thought of your navigator second guessing her ability is frightening to say the least. Turning to the robed and hooded figure, you find that her eyes catch a hint of light in a mildly spine-tingling manner. It might not be so bad if her hood didn't shroud her other facial features...

>cont
>>
>>25662812

"We will be heading to subsector Ionium. Elise is in the plotting chamber, along with the information I believe you'll need."

"By your command, Captain." With a bow, the navigator heads off to do her duty. Kihomi is quick to step beside you as Erin departs, your voidmaster's respectful stance undermined by the grin upon her face.

"You don't have a clue what you're looking at on the bridge, do you, Percius?"

"... I can still have you flogged for being a smart ass, Kihomi."

"How about you save the sweet talk for someone else and I'll grace you with some knowledge, Captain?"

Several hours pass quickly as Kihomi leads you around the bridge, hiding her instructions under the guise of providing a tour of the ship's 'unique' features. By the time a lighter with Signor Ferrari's courier lands upon your ship, you feel confident in your abilities to give the correct crewmen the orders they can actually carry out. Voidship combat and tactics will have to be learned as you go, but Kihomi assures you that she won't allow you to get her killed.

Well, that sounds good. Could we get a reminder of what exactly that one Sister said that he'd be willing to pay as ransom, and what I assume we asked for in turn? Or have negotiations not gotten that far yet? Either way I'd like to know about how much the Sister thinks they're worth.

I assume it's been a couple of hours, since we sent the message and then got a reply, not to mention the trips to and from the planet? Should we prepare for Warp travel or continue negotiations now? I'm in favor of staying another few hours and negotiating, personally. I mean, assuming we don't get drawn into a trap when handing over the Sisters, it's pretty much guaranteed cash in the bank, as it were.
>>
>>25663158

Each message you send/receive costs you $. Ana and Tes may have kept the rate below actually costing wealth for the single message.

No actual negotiations have been begun other than 'I have two souls I wish to ransom' and the reply.

warp travel or further messages are entirely up to you, but there are hours of delay between sending/receiving.
>>
>>25663218
In that case, maybe send a message to agree upon a meeting place somewhere IN SPAAAAACE where we don't have to rely on astropaths, and then make a time to be there? What say you others in the thread?
>>
>>25662985

Excellent. Time to go negotiate with Kerr.
I suggest going to their system and start negotiations over the Vox at longest range. Once a price has been negotiated, we will send a Lighter out to shy of our maximum broadside range, and his people can collect them from there. Once the transaction is complete, we shall collect our lighter and leave for Site 4...
>>
it should be noted that -all- forms of communication that aren't hard-line connections are vulnerable to interception. It is why your crew speaks in both pirate/ship code and not in low gothic on their vox frequencies.

Some ships that stay in the void long enough eventually develop their own languages/dialects, the same with planets.
>>
>>25663311
I'd rather set up the exchange at a neutral location, rather than negotiations taking place in his home system. Might just be my paranoia but.... Yeah.
>>
>>25663371

How about dropping in his system, Voxing him the meeting place then going there ourselves and prepare to scram if things get hot... As I do not believe that his ship(s) will be able to exit the warp, instantaneously target us and fire off a full broadside... If he comes with too much power, we just jump to another system...

Also, sending him a message Via Astropath gives him time to set up an ambush for us. If we drop in, drop the meeting point, then leave for it, he can only try to bring a fleet with him, not prepare an ambush With a fleet...
>>
>>25663426
I just think that we've already shown our hand a bit by letting him know that we have some people he wants. So far he seems to be polite about it, and it just feels, to me at least, that we can afford to spend a little bit to send one or two more messages to agree upon for a meeting place. After that it's a matter of trust that he won't jump in with half of his dynasty's entire fleet.
>>
>>25663371
>>25663426

Ambushes are generally set up around system features like dust clouds, asteroid clusters, planets and other stellar bodies. Only the most highly skilled astropaths with extensive knowledge of a system and incredibly rare systems dare to jump into a system deeper than the extreme edges.

It is practically impossible to purposely be in position to ambush a ship as it exits the warp at a system, even on the most calculated and stable of warp lanes. Now dumb luck might put you in that position once in a lifetime, or it might put you close enough that you'd best have a gellar field active because you're being sucked into the warp.
>>
>>25663542
>highly skilled astropaths

should read 'highly skilled navigators'
>>
>>25663542
>>25663550
Not so much worried about jumping into an ambush in his system, just that we don't know what assets he has, do we? Does he has a few raider type ships always on watch at the halo or so, automated weapon platforms. I'm probably giving him more credit and resources than I should but, I just see it as better to at least try to work out a neutral ground than to bounce in system and act like nothing's the matter. At least send him a message to expect us. Because of what MS just said about it being hard to ambush, plus I doubt he'll know from which direction we'll enter the system exactly, I'd feel comfortable giving him the dubious advantage of knowing we're coming.
>>
>>25663628

I'll agree to sending him a message to expect us in his system...
>>
>>25663651
Sounds good to me. A reasonable compromise. I hope Elise isn't too miffed about us suddenly changing our destination... to keep her and our navigator happy, mayhaps we should still go to Site 4 first then warp in to Folkvangr?
>>

>>
>>25663916

hmmmm... Since Elsie and Erin have plotted a course to Site 4, so we shall go there first. We can make an inital sweep to see if there is anything of interest there, if so then we can come back after the negotiations, if not then to the next Battle Site...
>>
>>25663916
Before.

If we happen upon an Imperial patrol while out and about, I'd rather there not be two captive Sisters on board. Could lead to some very awkward questions.
>>
"Send a reply that we'll see Lord Kerr at Folkvangr, we'll have the additional fee here in a moment."

With the courier taken care of and Lord Kerr vaguely informed of your impending visit, you grab the small vox unit beside your throne. "Attention crew, this is Captain Aurex. All hands to their stations for immediate departure. Report your ready to the bridge as you are."

The bridge bursts into activity as your officers take their positions and crew stations from across the ship signal their ready status. You watch Caseblanco fade into the distance over the next hours, the ship's engines throwing it toward the distant stars with a tangible eagerness. As your attention begins to wane, Erin takes a seat in a plain throne at the bridge's fore. "Permission to prepare for warp travel, Captain?"

"Granted." Gripping the vox once more, you address the crew. "All hands prepare the ship for warp travel. If you're so inclined, offer your prayers as well."

Erin's throne slowly raises upon a massive piston as she manipulates objects around her robes, and you catch a glimpse of her hood being pulled back before she vanishes from sight above the bridge. Elise quickly distracts you from thoughts of what Erin's face is actually like, your XO turning to address you. "Ship is prepared for warp transition, Captain Aurex."

"All hands, warp travel in 10 seconds."

Your guts wrench, roil and twist as the ship seems to lurch. Emperor protect you, you're in the warp.

"Well, I guess she didn't like cards... The deal is for two Sororitas, not one and a half. Though it seems that she has made a full recovery! So that means that she can go into the cell next the other sister.

she has been effectively in solitary confinement, locked away in one of the empty officer/guest quarters of the ship.

Well, find her a less nice place to be locked away.

We can't encourage this sort of behavior!

Oh hey, tvtropes. Haven't been there in a while. Guess it wouldn't hurt to take a look around...

"Tie her up and make sure she can't escape, then visit Orsola to make sure you're alright. After that, consider finding this one a darker hole to sit in for the rest of her stay."

"Is that really called for, sir?" Ana winces as she rubs at the area she received the kick.

"I'm serious about the medicae, Ana."

The remainder of your warp journey is uneventful, though it takes closer to 42 days of real-time to reach your destination. As your ship tears back into reality at the edge of the system. The bridge sits in silence for nearly a half hour as the passive auger arrays stream limited amounts of data. Kihomi is the first to speak, hunched over the main auger display. "Our augers work fine on passive settings so long as there is something out there putting signals out for us to read, but this system seems to only have a lone beacon transmitting a low-frequency 'forbidden' message. If we want to see anything in this lifetime we'll need to actively scan, Captain."

"Won't that give away our position to anything in the system?"

"Luck of the draw, we can't see what is out there without going active."

Data floods into the ship as your augers are switched to active mode. As the main auger display becomes more and more crowded, you temporarily relocate your command to the plotting chamber's table display. Elise and Kihomi join you, marveling at the speed your augers begin displaying the various features of the system and plotting their projected orbital paths. The system's outer reaches are practically barren, only a single airless rock in a lonely orbit. The projected biosphere is home to nearly a dozen asteroid clusters, at least two asteroid belts, and three desolate rocky planets. One of them is the dead world Vectes. The majority of the biosphere's features have collected localized dust, shrouding them partially from your augers at this distance. Two miniscule planets sit in the system's inner cauldron, one of them currently surrounded by a massive solar flare from the roiling yellow star that forms the system's core.

"We should assume we've been detected somehow, set a time limit on our visit here and be gone before any response ships or patrols find us." Elise seems nervous, perhaps first mission jitters.

"A fair presumption. Should help prevent any enemies from catching us unprepared. For now, Gather as much data as we can on the potential resources and facilities here. We have a negotiation to attend to, and the guests are getting agitated in our company..."

scan the shit out of everything, make notes, then off to deal with Kerr...
>>

Kihomi nods. "Better to be paranoid than dead. Unfortunately our augers are specialized for passive detection using other people's signals. Even with a standard auger we'd need to be close to detect a hidden facility, and resources would have to be massive deposits. If we want to be out in a week, we might be able to get a few hours worth of scans in on maybe four features. Two weeks and I might be able to plot a course to swing past eight, maybe nine. Three weeks would likely see any response ships on our heads, I'd think."

"So how many do we want to investigate before we bug out and how long do we risk staying?" Elise checks her data slate with a sigh. "Most of the facilities should have been in the asteroids, moon based ones were likely located quickly and scoured."

"We shall spend two weeks here. Kihomi, try and get as many of the Clusters as you can."

during this time, we should get to know our officers a bit better, maybe do some target practice. see if we can't learn to do headshots which do not damage hats...

... you won't have time to both be the Captain and train skills during the mission. One or the other, which would probably leave Elise in charge if you decided to train.

Let's get 2 posts with 4d100s for scanning, and I'll just roll an ominous roll here...

So question: our current ship is the Partisan-class correct? Where might we find the closest forgeworld able to do upgrades on the ship? Or is it just one of those find out by exploring things?
>>
>>25669158

It is safe to assume any forgeworld in this sector would be very suspicious of an Imperial ship showing up with an entirely different Captain and command crew than what is noted in their records.

Attempting to get upgrades from Imperial worlds is not advised.
>>
>>25669582
Ah yes of course. So a Renegade Forgeworld, Pirate shipyard or anything similar
>>
>>25669896

There are no known renegade forgeworlds in Sector Deus, to your knowledge.

There are several ports of ill repute, including one that has recently earned the ire of a local Adeptus Astartes chapter.

Your biggest challenge is that ship improvements would cost hundreds of wealth due to both your standing and the ports you'd find them in.
