Tom catches sight of his big brother and gives a happy nod as he makes his way to the Hufflepuff table, the students greeting him with open arms, ruffling his hair and patting him on the back.

‘Could have been a whole lot worse’ says Nigel.

The sorting ends shortly after as the first years join their new houses.

The headmaster stands and opens his arms wide to greet everyone.

‘Welcome students new and old to another year at Hogwarts. I’ll keep this brief. Don’t go into the forbidden forest, it won’t do you any good and it’s a whole lot of bother for us teachers. So just don’t. Okay? I appreciate it.’

The headmaster gestures to professor Trib.

‘Professor Olivier has stepped down as Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and Professor Trib here has taken his place. Taking her place as potions master we have a new addition to the school - Professor Alfred Aggins’

A short man with almost childlike youthful features stands and gives a polite nod to the students in the hall. He clasps his hands as if in prayer, bowing now and again as a sign of good faith.

‘You may begin the feast!’

With a flick of his wrist the headmaster conjures the feast for all to eat.

Unwilling to give into the barbarity of the manner in which Olivia chomps down on her food. You take your cutlery and take your time in eating in little increments, savoring the taste while taking delicate care not to spill even the slightest crumb onto the table. As you eat the idea of forming a band returns to the centre of your thoughts in a way no other idea has sparked your interests before.

Is it because of your love of Queen and all things musically muggle? Or is it becomes the notion of spending some quality time with your friends towards a larger goal sounds pretty nice? Both of those are good reasons but the real one, even if you won’t admit it to yourself right away is this; your parents will give you hell if they find out your in a band. It’s just not the ‘to do’ thing for a young pureblood which to take part in. Which makes it even more enticing than it ever would be otherwise!

You giggle to yourself. One minute you’re trying to make a real good show of eating in a ladylike fashion and the next you’re trying to be like Joan Jett.

You finish eating and look to your friends, wondering which of them, if any, has any musical talent. From what Sam told you he’s a decent singer and Nigel can handle a guitar pretty well. Despite the fact that you yourself have no real experience with musical in any way you think it’s worth a shot asking your friends about it.

‘Guys’ you say, they all turn to you as if on cue, noticing the distressed manner in which you try to grab their attention.

‘I was wondering if you want to start a band, you know, something that we could do together during lunch and stuff, would anyone be interested?’

Olivia raises her right hand which holds a chicken leg like she really wants to answer a math’s question.

‘yes!’ she says ‘Definitely!’

‘I’m all for it’ says Nigel ‘I’ll send an owl to my parents about sending me my guitar’

‘Great’ you say, a little bummed that Joel isn’t interested. That leaves Maud and Robert left to ask, but that’ll have to wait until later. You stand with the rest of the students in the hall and file out, following the prefects to your dorms.

You can’t wait to tell Tara and Elise about this!
