Hello, /tg/. It's good to see you again. The week went by so quickly, I almost wasn't prepared for today's thread.

Last time on Digimon Quest, we entered the Digital World itself at long last, and ended up in an enormous forest. We moved North, only to prompt an encounter, which is where we'll be picking up.

As the map fills in, I can see that this forest seems to be on or near some sort of elevated or rocky terrain, based on the texture of the surroundings on the map itself. And, just to prove that theory, I start to see towering rock formations here and there, with trees growing over or around them. Many of them appear to be old and weathered, but some of them have long, crawling cracks up and down their licken and vine-covered faces.

Getting closer to one of them, I can see that what I mistook for cracks at first are in fact carvings- though of what I can't tell.

Then I hear something in the foliage behind me.

I don't know whether we- or I- had been followed, or if it was just my luck that we weren't alone here, but I'm not about to run or hide from whatever that is. I briefly consider calling out to Sally, but the thing in the brush chooses that moment to move again.

I leap to the side, and spin, quickly whirling to face whatever it is that thinks it can sneak up on me. At that moment, out from the underbrush bursts...

Some kind of green, plantlike, humanoid thing. It has a rugged texture to it, and it seems to be in some kind of distress, from the way it's flailing about. Had I moved a couple seconds later, it would have run straight into me. It's now standing where I once was, still waving its arms about and emitting muffled cries of an indistinguishable nature I assume to be anger.

Do I...

I should try and calm it down; we're here to save the digital world, not pick fights with its inhabitants for no reason. Besides, this thing seems to be in distress- maybe I can help it.

I reach out, to try and grab hold of one of its arms, but the flailing around it's doing isn't helping matters. I make a grab, but the limb I'm aiming for moves at the last second, smacking me on the hand. A jolt of pain courses through my arm, and all I can think about is how fucking *solid* that hit was, despite only being a glancing blow. My left hand goes numb momentarily, and I can tell that if that didn't crack something, then at the very least I'm going to have one hell of a bruise later.

A surge of frustration and anger takes hold, and with a snarl of pain, my other hand darts out, grabbing the thing by one of the protrusions on its head, which I'm guessing are horns of some kind. The thing actually stops flailing for a second, and I'm barely able to get a better grip, before it starts trying to run away.

What should I do? I could redirect where it's running, or I could hold on until it gives up. Alternatively, I could call the others over, and have them stop it.

Keep holding and call Sally. She's a witch, she should be able to calm it down.

If I can't get this thing to calm down, someone will be able to.

Hopefully, that someone is Sally. Switching my grip on the thing so that it can't run any further, I call out in the direction I came from.

"Sally?! Zoe?! Aslan?! Hey, would somebody come over here? I've got a bit of a problem, here!"

It takes a couple seconds, but soon afterwards, I can hear the sounds of several people moving towards this spot. Not long after that, Sally and the others come into view, much to my relief.

I let go of the creature, and it starts to run right away...only to smack face-first into Sally's huge palm. The impact knocks it over, where it flails about, trying to right itself without success.

I breathe out a sigh and craddle my hand, wincing as the injured extremeties flex. "Thanks," I gasp out, and Sally's focus immediately shifts over to me.

"Wayne, your hand!" She cries, and immediately grasps my arm in her claws, gently holding it out so she can examine it. Zoe seems concerned as well, bending closer to get a closer look.

I wave off their concerns, chalking it up to a bruise, and try to redirect everyone's attention to the thing in front of us.

Now that I've got a closer look at it without getting punched, I can see that the whole surface of the thing is covered in some form of moss, though I can't see any sort of identifying features at all. Sally can't offer any sort of insight into what this thing is, and the Ogres don't seem to care much at all.

What should I do?

Looking over the thing, I feel that it has to be a Digimon of some sort, but since Sally can't identify it, I'm at a loss as to what it is.
Maybe I should try talking with it...

"Um, are you alright? You were kind of in a panic just now." There's no real response to my words, and after another try, I give up on that avenue of identifying it.

Then again, maybe the digivice can tell us something our partners can't. I pull the cellphone-like device out of my pocket again, and open it up to that menu I remember seeing. Once again, I have no idea what it's saying, but I'm hoping that I'll be lucky enough to find something that will help.

>luck: 15

I scroll through the list, and hit an option at random: it brings up the map function, but now it's scanning for digimon again. The radius it's scanning in isn't that large, so I can't see that far away from our group's location, but I can easily pick out Sally, Aslan, the ogres, and the digimon in front of us. This just confirms that our newest acquaintence is a digimon, something we kind of knew already.

Going back to the menu, I scroll a bit more, and hit another option- A screen with a spinning circle appears, and it seems the digivice has a camera, because I'm treated to a blue-tinted view of the ground under my hand. Hesitantly, I turn the digivice to face the OGres first, and a small bar appears under the circle; it looks to be a loading meter, and when it fills up, I'm treated to a picture of the Fuugamon first, with an accompanying stat sheet, then the same for the Ogremon. I can't understand anything but their names, which are written in English, funnily enough. This is just what I needed, though.

I turn the Digivice to the downed Digimon, and the meter pops up again- only to stop halffway through, while an error message appears underneath. So it can't scan him for some reason.

>well, I know which one I'll be posting now.

It's the moss covering him, I decide, and begin trying to clear it off. The moss is tough, though, and doesn't seem to want to come away from the thing's 'skin', which I now realize is stone. That explains why I hurt my hand, and why getting up must be difficult for it.

Eventually, though, I manage to clear enough of it off that there's a large blanks spot where a face would be-

And there is a face. Two large, yellow eyes open up within two dark caverns, positioned above a chipped, jagged face that looks like it was carved with a crowbar and sledgehammer. Ripping off more of the moss leads to him opening his mouth in an enormous gasp, and I realize that he might not have been able to breathe properly like that. Now able to see, the creature begins to clear more of the moss off by himself, scrabbling away with his stony fingers until the largest patches are gone.

Now that we can see him properly, I point the digivice at him again, and this time the scan goes through. Just as it's about to finish, though, the creature takes the opportunity to introduce himself.

"Phew," He breathes out a sigh of relief, "I've gotta thank ya for that, I was this close to suffocatin' with all the stuff growin' over me!" He holds out a stony hand, what appears to be a smile plastered over his face. "Th'name's Gotsumon, an' you guys are...?"

A quick check of the Digivice's screen confirms that Gotsumon is in fact his name, and that he was telling the truth.

I take the proffered hand(?) and shake slowly, still a bit wary of this new Digimon. Still, I decide to introduce myself.

"I'm Wayne, and this is Sally," I indicate my partner, who smiles cheerily. Zoe waves shyly, and manages to mumble out an introduction for her and her partner. The two Ogres merely grunt, not caring very much about this whole situation. They do seem to be on the lookout, however, and that's better than nothing. Turning my attention back to the small golem, I voice the question I think most of us want answered; "So, what happened? Were you attacked by something? You were pretty panicked."

The Gotsumon blinks in confusion, before laughing and rubbing the back of his head in an embarrassed manner.
"No, no, nuthin' like that. I just took too long a nap, and ended up picking tha worst spot ta do it in. Moss tends ta take advantage of things like that; woke up an' I couldn't even open my eyes, so I ran." He then begins to look about, a thoughtful look on his face. "Don't recognize this place, tho'. I must've wandered pretty far."

Well, now we know why he was like that, and why he was panicking.

I send Sally a glance, and she seems to catch on, leaning in closer to speak into my ear.

"He's not lying, and he seems scatterbrained. It wouldn't be best to rely on him too much, but maybe we can learn something more." Her peace said, she hovers back to where she was floating originally. Zoe sends both of us curious looks, but doesn't say anything. I feel kind of bad for keeping her out of the loop, but then again, she's probably as clueless as I am. Returning my focus to the digimon we just met, however, I decide to follow Sally's advice.

"Look, we've been...called here, for a purpose. Unfortunately, we don't know much about this place, or what we're supposed to do." I explain, and the Gotdumon nods understasndingly.

"I gots ya," he says, closing his eyes and continuing to nod sagely. "I have that exact same feelin' sometimes."

I'm beginning to get the feeling he doesn't know what I mean.

"Like, fer instance, when my elders tell me t'go and dig more holes. Issat my purpose? Issat all I can do? But what else can I do?" He keeps going on, and I've begun resisting the urge to just leave him there.

We need information, though.

"Alright," I say, a bit of my impatience creeping into my voice, "I bet that's a great thing, but what we really need now is information. Can you tell us anything about what's wrong with the Digital World?"

The Gotsumon stops his rambling, and opens his eyes. Slowly, he looks back at me, and then at the Digivice in my hand, as if just realizing something.

"Hey..." He says, sounding a bit suspicious. "You ain't like any Digimon I've ever seen. What are ya?" I'm a bit taken aback by his sudden change of subject, but he's not done apparently. "And how do I know you don't work for any 'a them Rulers, huh? An' if you ain't one 'a them, how do I know they ain't lookin' for ya?" He's completely suspicious of us, now.

"Whaddya mean 'what Rulers are those?'" Then comprehension seems to dawn on him. "You guys really don't know?" We all confirm that yes, we don't don't what the hell he's talking about, and he starts to slowly edge backwards. "I can't say any more. If you guys really ain't from here, and you really ain't takin' orders from Them, then all I can say is go North. Go North for Answers. That's all I can tell ya." "No," I sigh, and Aslan looks to me in annoyance. "Scaring him now would just make him less likely to give us anything. Besides, we want to avoid making

enemies if at all possible." The lion grumbles, but stands down, glaring off in the direction the Gotsumon ran. Hearing a throaty chuckle, I turn to where our

two "guides" are.

Ogremon and Fuugamon know something. That much is for sure. They also expected us to turn to them for answers, judging by their knowing smirks.

"What was he talking about?" Surprisingly, Zoe's the one to speak up, stepping forward in a rare show of confidence. I can't help but feel both proud of her,

and worried that she may annoy the larger Digimon. The Ogremon looks down at her with narrowed eyes, while the Fuugamon mere chuckles mirthlessly.

"He was talking about the reason we left," The red-skinned giant says, before lumbering just a bit further North without any explanation. Ogremon just grins

and beckons us to follow them.

"You'll see why soon enough." He promises, and after exchanging troubled looks with eachother, the four of us follow after the large Digimon.

We walk for about twenty minutes, during which there aren't any more disturbences, before the forest begins to thin out, revealing more and more stone dry

earth between the trees, which have also been growing smaller. By the time we're out of the forest completely, the trees are the size of ones you'd seen in

any park in the human world. But that's not what we're paying attention to;
>>
>>25590554
Before us is a vast expanse of nothing.

There are no trees beyond this point, no grass, no shrubs, nothing. It's all broken and cracked dirt and dust. The skyline has changed as well- rather than the

brilliant hues we'd looked at in wonder, we're now underneath a cloudless, gray-blue. Gone are the vibrant colors, and in their place is drabness.

"What..." Sally is in shock, and is visibly trembling, her eyes wide and looking about erratically, as if searching for something that isn't there. "What

happened to it?" Aslan is shaken as well, though he stays silent, and Zoe isn't looking as good as she was in the forest.

The Ogremon and Fuugamon are no longer smiling.

"This is a Dead Zone," The Fuugamon states simply, as if that's supposed to explain everything. The Ogremon is a bit more helpful, though, and elaborates

as he scans the horizon.

"Dead zones are what you could call the worst the Digiworld has to offer, kids. They're places where everything's just given up, and bit by bit, the world collapses in those spots. It's a slow death, and not everyone's lucky enough to get out before the process is complete." The green ogre starts to walk into the wasteland before us, and when none of us follow, turns back and waves us forward. "And if we aren't quick about this, then we won't be so lucky, either."

We walk for a long time. We walk, and walk, and yet we aren't tired.

Our guides' huge strides out them ahead of us, but not out of sight, and the pace they set is a manageable one. To my left and right are Sally and Zoe, with Aslan directly next to his partner. Neither girl has spoken since we arrived at the Dead Zone. Sally's face is set in a stony, almost angry expression, and every now and again she'll let her gaze sweep back and forth across the desert, before refocusing ahead. Zoe seems to be immersed in her own thoughts, occasionally looking to Aslan or myself, then back at the ground in front of her. Aslan is simply lookinf at the ogres in front of us, and I know that if they were to make any move against us, he'd be the first to notice.

We're steadily heading Northwest, according to my digivice's map, and everything- both on the map and around us- looks the same.

After a while longer, though, I notice something different: there, ahead of us, and a bit to the East, is some kind of tower. It's far away; we're maybe about halfway there, and from this distance, I can't make out any details.

The Ogres have slowed, though they're still moving, and they've noticed the tower as well. both of them spare a look back at us, before looking back to the Tower in the distance.

As we catch up, the Ogremon speaks, his gruff voice carrying an undertone of uncertainty.

"Well, Kid, you think that's what the rock was talking about?"

It probably is, and I can see the others are curious as well.

We're closer to the edge of the Dead Zone now.

[] Yeah. Let's go that way. (Head towards the Tower)

[] No, I don't think so. (Choose another path)
>>
>>25592039
Towards the Tower!
We should be careful though, there may be enemies or traps or something.
>>
>>25592121
Also, maybe ask the ogres about it on the way.
>>
>>25592039
>[] Yeah. Let's go that way. (Head towards the Tower)
>>
>>25592121
Speaking of which, we should try to train with Sally when we next make camp
>>
[X] Yeah. Let's go that way. (Head towards the Tower)

Even if it isn't, it's still something likely to be involved in this, in some way.
Let's be prepared to use those Natural 20's, because I've got a feeling a fight is coming on soon.
>>
>>25592158
Did we pick up a machete or something when we got tools and supplies back on our world? I wish we did. I mean, there's so much we can do without weapons, even if we try to train.
>>
>>25592212
we should have, or a hatchet as a bare minimum. Even with nothing though, we need to learn to dodge, or Sally will wind up getting hurt protecting us
>>
>>25592039

I bet inside that tower is a nice old man who will give us candy and advice. Yup it must be, so lets go to the tower!
>>
>>25592212
We got a knife and such things.

But really, we're not going to be a combatant here - our companion is someone who can become one of the Great Demon Lords.
We won't be physically matching up with that.
>>
>>25592841
Well, of course, but we should at least be able to fend off rookies and not be free food for champions.
>>
>>25592919
rookies I think we might be ble to handle, but not champions.
Look at what Sally can do.
>>
>>25593127
Oh, yeah, I meant "not free food" as in "at least avoiding some attacks and running like motherfuckers in order to survive". I sure as hell know we can't do shit against any Greymon-tier monster on our own, but, you know, not dying the second it fires any kind of attack at us.
Digimons are pretty fucking dangerous. I hope we never get separated from Sally even for a little while, actually.
>>
>>25593252
if we get a gun or bow we can be at leasta bit of a distraction/nuisance to most mons I think

"Yeah, that's probably it." I reply, and Ogremon nods, before heading in the direction of the tower, the rest of us following.

I was wrong about the distance, it seems; it doesn't take us very long to reach the tower at all. Once we pass the edge of the Dead Zone, though, it's as though I've let out a breath I was holding the entire time. There is something terribly Off about that area, and we could all feel it.

Now, we're traveling over grasslands, and it appears to be Autumn in this segment of the Digital World, if that even made sense; the grasses are a bright gold, and the skies are clear and blue. Here and there are hills and rivers, and every now and then we see a small copse of trees- not nearly the size of the ones we left behind. The Tower looms over it all, yet isn't ominous at all. I can see it more clearly now, and what I can see of it is covered in Gold, with the runes that seem to be this world's alphabet crawling over every inch of the brilliant metal.

Soon, we reach the crest of the final hill; before us is the Tower's entrance- a massive pair of Double Doors fit for giants larger than our two guides, yet again covered in Digital letters. As we walk closer, I lean in to speak to Sally, and ask if the letters made any sense to her. She shakes her head, and it seems like she's disappointed. I assure her that it's alright, but by then, we're right in front of the entrance.

For a while, nobody says anything; we just stand there, waiting for something to happen. Just as I'm about to ask if someone should knock, there's a massive grinding sound, and the doors begin to open.

A bright light shines out from within the gateway, and it's nearly blinding to look at.

And then I hear someone speaking. A deep, commanding voice rings out, and seems to pass right through my ribcage.

"Thou who art Chosen, step forth."
>>
>>25593417
I know that speech pattern. I think I do, anyway. I look to the others, wondering what we should do; Sally gives me a tentative smile, while Zoe looks nervous. Aslan seems excited, and-

Both the Ogres are now walking away.

I call out to them, but when they turn around, all they say is,

"We promised to guide you through the Digiworld. Now, you got something better, so we'll be off." With that, they keep walking, though the Ogremon does give us a wave as they pass the crest of the hill.

Well. I turn back to the doorway, and steel myself.

We all step into the doorway as a group, and once again, the grinding sound fills our ears as the doors close behind us.

No going back now.

The Tower, it seems, is more like a temple of some kind; There are statues of several Digimon filling the room, and when I look up, I can see that there is no ceiling for this floor. Or any floor- the whole building is one hollow room, and I can't even see the top, so that means there has to be only one ceiling.

The room is torch-lit, but the light from those flames is white, and expands to fill the whole area. Furthermore, everything I can see seems to be made of some kind of white stone- or maybe metal. I can't really tell for sure.

In the center, there is a large, blue circle made of some kind of gemstone, I think, until it starts glowing. The voice once again reverberates through my chest, and I can just barely tell that it's coming from above us.

"Thou has done well coming to this place...though there were meant to be more."

This, plus asking about the "Rulers" mentioned earlier. And the Dead Zones.
Actually, a full report on "why are we here and what are we supposed to do" would be the best.

And I'm going to bed now; 6 AM here in Europe. Have fun, guys.

>>25593682
still army for us, just a lot less humans. oh, we should ask if our bond with Sally is still holy, since she was sad about that, in addition to what you said
>>
>>25593682
The reason I'm voting for this is because I want to reassure the gods that we are with them, that we've come to help.
And, also, because we might get them to point out how we can contact other chosen.

Also these are apparently gods, Wayne should be nervous, so it makes sense for him to reach out to grab Sally's hand

>>25593731
It's just, the 2 ogres left...
Kind of hard to have an army if we can only get a few special ones.

But eh, hopefully the gods will approve, and might point us towards other recruits.

>>
For a moment, I can't think of anything to say- what could I say? I'm talking to Sally's God, if my assumption is correct. Out of the corner of my eye, I can see that Sally isn't taking this well, either; she's shaking, and is clutching her broom tightly in front of her. I reach out, and touch my hand to hers, still looking ahead. Her flaw comes away from the broom handle, and gently curls around mine- her shivering's stopped, and my own nervousness has abated some.

I take a look at Zoe, and see that she's got one hand on Aslan's head, stroking his fur slowly. She catches my gaze and sends me a weak smile, before we both look up again.

I take a deep breath, and speak as clearly as I can.

"I told you we would come, and I don't break my word lightly."

There's a a hum of...approval, and I can almost see the one whom the voice belongs to nodding.

"Yes, we did choose well..."

So apparently, the voice doesn't think I suck. Alright, then. It's time to answer its other concern.

"There were two others with partners who arrived around the same time we did. Partners you apparently sanctioned. Is there any way we can get into contact with them?"

The voice makes a "hmmmm"ing noise, as if thinking to itself.

"Two, says thou? Two? Hmm." I get the feeling it's laughing at me, in its own way. "Those Two hath nearly arrived, though they shall not be here for a while longer. But Thou hast only met Two... Well..." I can almost hear it smiling now. "Thou shalt see, in time."
>>
>>25595683
I have no idea what it's talking about, but I'm not going to push my luck and hope it answers anything more about that- I know from reading about Greek Mythology that Gods are fickle assholes if you do something wrong.

Then, to our surprise, another voice joins in. Where the first one could be described as dignified, perhaps, this one was rougher, a bit throatier, but still as powerful.

"Two of the Chosen are arrived. The rest, we cannot see. Shall we, then, provide answers to the Two and their companions?"

The first voice hums again.

"Yes, that wouldst do well....Very well, we shall hear the questions of the Chosen."

I feel like everything now focuses on the four of us; now they want us to ask questions...

A Third voice speaks up now, higher pitched and more grating than the other two.

"And you should keep this well in mind... we do not take well to insolence. Ask wisely, Chosen."

And apparently we'd better ask good ones.

[X] "Who are these rulers? And what have they done with the land?"
>>
We don't have much info on what has happened to the land, or who these rulers are.
We might as well make sure to ask about this, since that's what we need to deal with in order to handle whatever has happened to the digital world.

Since, you know, we did say we were not going to break our word about helping them, seems pretty important to ask this, before anything else.

"The Dead Zones," I say, and have to hold back a wince when Sally's grip tightens on my hand. Around me, I can hear the voices murming between themselves. "Those..." I take a deep breath. "Those Rulers I've been hearing about; Who are they? What have they done with the land?" There, the voices begin speaking again.

"The Rulers of the Dead Zones did nothing more than what we have done in the past: They claimed the right to rule. No more, no less."

Something doesn't seem right about that, though.

"Then...they're just tyrants? They didn't do anything to the Digital World?" Their answer comes in the form of a swift,

"No."

>>
>>25596383
>I could do one more.

"Then- then what IS causing this destruction? What's killing the Digital World?"

The answer comes just as quickly as before.

"We do not know."

I share a startled look with Sally, then with Zoe.

If the Digiworld's Gods don't know what's wrong... then who does? A spark of anger wells up within, and I can't hold back my next question.

"Then why us? What makes us so special that we get picked to save a world that isn't even ours?!" I regret asking the moment the words leave my lips, but I can't take them back now. And now that I've begun... "And who are you to just swoop down and tell us what to do?! What gives you that right?!"

There's silence for several moments, then the Second voice begins to laugh.

"I like this one! He has steel in his soul, my brothers!"

The Third isn't so pleased.

"Steel, yes, but no sheathe. His tongue is not in check, and that is just as dangerous as a blade."

The First stays quiet until the other two have said their peace, before it too speaks.
>>
>>25596867

"We shall answer, Thou who art Chosen; Wayne Rogers.

We chose thou because of thine spirit; Thine spirit which didst, until not long ago, shine bright with not a single blemish. But even the small taint we can see dost not diminish thine potential.

And thou," I can feel the voice is speaking to Zoe, now. "Thou art just as special, if in a different way. The potential both of ye chosen hold is tremendous, and we hath need of such a thing; now, more than ever.

What gives us the right to do as we do? I shalt tell you, Chosen:

We are the only ones who will do anything now."

It's completely silent now. Maybe they were expecting another outburst, but when there isn't one, the First voice continues.

"We art not the only powers in this realm...but we are all that remains of those willing to save it."

The second voice now speaks up.

"The Twelve on their mountain have forsaken all hope, and have given in to their desires. Our greatest warriors have abandoned us in our time of greatest need. Those who guard the Tree now follow their own commands, and our leader remains ever silent. We are the last, and this is all we can do."

>And that's all for tonight, guys. See you tomorrow, I hope.

>>
>Sorry this took so long. I got hungry.

The implications of what this all means finally hits me-

We're the last line of defense. A bunch of kids are all these Gods can think of at the very end, and that's all they can do, is bring them here.

"...What should we do?" Zoe asks, her expression one of resolve and determination. It dawns on me that between all of us, my best friend is probably the one most intent on saving the Digital World. "What do we have to do to save you and everyone else?"

I can't help but admire the fire I see in her- it's the most passionate I've seen her in years.

The First voice "hmmm"s again, and the second voice picks up where it left off;

"The slow decay of the Digital World is linked to the World Tree, Yggdrasil- the World Tree that has been dying, inch by inch. Its guardians were helpless to prevent this, and could provide no answers, just as we could not. The World Tree is intrinsically linked to the Digital World- if one suffers, so must the other; and Yggdrasil has been withering. This, we believe, is the cause of the Dead Zones, that kill nearly all life within them as they form. Find the cause for one, and you shall find the answer to another."

The Third voice speaks now, a bit reluctantly, it seems.

"We have not been able to gain any insight from the Twelve On The Mountain, nor do our Twelve Devas answer our calls. And we dare not leave, for fear of deletion- thus, this task falls to you."

"To the West is the Mountain the Twelve sit upon," The Second supplies. "There may be something to glean from them, though we do not encourage you to hope- they have shut themselves off from all problems in this realm, living only for themselves now."

"Now, we will allow one more question, Chosen. Pick your words carefully."

I can only ask one more?

Well, then, it's got to be...

"We do not know for sure- but Yggdrasil's decay has halted for the time being. Now, the tree hangs in a state of limbo, neither decaying, nor healing. When we learn more, we shall send you word." The Second voice answers.

I take that as a sign of dimissal, but when I turn to leave with the others, a Fourth voice calls out, sounding old and weathered.

"Young Chosen...your Partner." Both Sally and I tense up, my hand still held in hers, and slowly, we turn back to face the center of the room.

"What about her?" I ask warily, and the voice's reply is filled with graveness.

"There is Darkness in her- a taint that has spread even to yourself. This was not our intent, Chosen, and so if you will it, we do have the power to set things to how they should have been."

Sally's eyes are wide, and she's clutching my hand even tighter now, but something isn't right. I feel like this is some kind of test- but what for I don't know.

order? everyone has agreed on declining the offer... though >>25606361 might be asking about the taint itself...

but the majority is definately on the 'Deal with it ourselves - Character Progression Point' choice.

I feel that letting the DigiGods fix the problems kind of limits our own growth as a character...

also lets you do a 'Evil Digivolution' episode... maybe even a 'Depression' one, like the one Matt from the first series was in...

>>

Gale, could you clarify the context of this 'Taint'?
>>
>>25607444
>>25607382
essentially, the Gods were offering to switch your main evolution line from Witchmon->Ladydevimon to Witchmon->Angewomon. That was it.
>>
I take a deep breath, and prepare myself for what I'm about to say. Since I don't have anything to look right in the face, it loses a bit of its impact, but I stare straight ahead, and give my reply.

"If there is a taint, then it's my problem...our problem." I correct myself, eliciting a small smile from Sally in the process. "The Digital World is dying, and it would be petty of us to that of you while you're facing this crisis." I pause there, but since I haven't been interrupted or struck down yet, I take that as permission to continue. "Furthermore, there's a dark side to everything, just like there is good in everything. Sally is my partner, my friend, and there's nothing wrong with her.

So if this Taint does turn out to be something, then we'll overcome it, but you won't be touching her." I take another deep breath; I had gotten a little too heated towards the end, something I hope didn't piss the gods off.

To my surprise, a good-natured chuckle is their response, and the Fourth voice, now sounding rather grandfatherly, speaks again.

"Then go, Chosen. There will be hardship ahead of you, but if you hold on to that answer...then perhaps not."

The doors behind us open again, and we hurry through, not wanting to risk anything else. Once they're shut again, and we're once more outside, all four of us breathe out simultaneously. We were all nervous, it would seem, though Sally still has yet to let go of my hand. Zoe doesn't look very pleased with how things went, however- or that's what I think.

For now, we could find somewhere to set up camp, or keep moving until we find somewhere better. We could also take a break here before moving on.

I turn my attention to Zoe; she's the only other Chosen here, and she should have just as much say in what we do next.

"Zoe, what do you think?"

>rolled 1

She turns to me, her face questioning, but then her gaze travels past mine, and locks onto something behind me- Sally. Her expression sours almost immediately, but she still refocuses her attention on me.

"They...told us about the mountain." She mutters, before pulling out her digivice and pulling up the map- I didn't even know she knew how to do that- and pointing behind the tower. "...which is that way." Closing the digivice, she begins to walk, the bag she packed hanging off one shoulder.

Bewildered by this change in attitude, I motion for Sally to follow as well, as I jog to catch up with my friend.

"Zoe, care to tell me what's up?" I ask, but all I get is an angry shrug and an "I don't know. You tell me." Fuck, she's pulling that. Zoe never pulls a "you tell me."

I take a moment to calm myself down, and try again.

"Look, Zoe; if this is about what we're supposed to do, I get it. It's a big deal. It's a really fucking big deal. And apparently, we're the only ones doing anything. I do get it." She slows down a bit. "But..." I step in front of her, cutting off her escape path. "That *isn't* what this is about, is it? That's not it at all." She stares at me in surprise, and I can detect just a bit of relief in her eyes, but then she looks away, biting her lip.

"Wayne, it's...it's not important. I've just...got a lot on my mind, and I took it out on you, alright? I'm sorry about that." She then steps around me, adjusting her bag on her shoulder. "Let's just go, okay? We've got a lot of walking to do."

So, Zoe's not upset anymore, and I only have a slight suspicion as to why, with no real explanation.

Sally rests a hand on my shoulder, a concerned look on her face, and I realize that I must look kinda put out. I give her a reassuring smile, and motion with a nod that we should get moving.

I have a suspicion that Zoe sees this as an equivalent of refusing Sally 'treatment' for an 'illness' she has...

The most direct route to address it would be to propose that since Digimon are made of Data, changing that data could change their personalities, so would she have taken that risk with Aslan. Though I fully expect her to state that she would have taken that risk....
Or we could say that we trust Zoe to know what to do encase things go bad... But I expect her to doubt her abilities in that matter

In general, this situation requires either us learning a lesson from Sally 'Loosing Control', or Sally's 'Tainted Digivolution' saving her and/or Aslan...

Both situations requiring another nat1 to occur...

This of course assumes that Gale will follow the established sub-plot convention regarding this particular event...

either way, TO ADVENTURE!!!

>well, since that proved fruitless...

It takes us into sundown to even get near the base of the mountain; which is probably an indicator of how absolutely huge this mountain is. It stretches on and on and on, going up and up, beyond even the clouds, which is quite a feat, considering how high up those clouds are. The surrounding area is filled with short, but dense clusters of trees and the occasional lake here and there.

We've set up a small, modest camp with our supplies in a clearing, which also happens to be near a lake; the water is clear, but the sand is an odd greenish-blue, discoloring the water further. It's a quiet place, and my digivice didn't show any sign of life while I was using the map, so we deemed it safe for now.

The four of us have set up a perimeter of stones and sticks, and even built a small a bit off from the center, with the tent on the other side.

Aslan wandered off a while ago, claiming that he was going to try and get some food, and Sally's sitting against a tree, smiling to herself every now and then. Zoe's gone inside the tent, and hasn't come out since.

We just sit there, quietly, for a few minutes, enjoying the silence, until Sally edges a bit closer, smiling at me when I shoot her a questioning look. She's no more than a couple inches away, and with her hat and cloak off, she looks a little bit more...normal. More...human.

"Thank you, Wayne." Her voice is soft, and yet so full of emotion.

"What for?" I already know, but I'm not sure what to say.

"For standing up for me. For calling me your friend, not just your partner." She leans a bit, her shoulder touching mine. "It makes me feel special."

She makes a sound halfway between an "uh-huh" and a "hmm," seemingly content to just stay where she is. Her own large limbs drift around me slowly, resting lightly on my back and arm. Then, her expression changes, and the look she gives me is one I can't really decipher.

"But...She's special, too, isn't she?"

Wait.

"...You mean-"

"Zoe. She's special to you, too She's your friend, isn't she?" Sally doesn't look upset, and there isn't any accusation in her tone or words. I can't help but nod.

"Yeah, yeah, Zoe's special, too. We've...we've known each other for a long time." Sally nods at this, and then, after about a minute more of the embrace, she pulls away, giving me a dazzling smile.

"Then you should tell her that, too. I don't think she knows you think that, Wayne." She pokes me in the chest with one of her fingers. "So you need to tell her, too."

I can't really think of anything to say to that, so I nod mutely, and she giggles to herself, before getting up and walking away from the tree, only looking back to send me another smile.

Well.

I stand up, but still lean against the tree, thinking to myself.

Just what exactly was Sally playing at, there? What did she mean by "Tell Zoe?"

The only way to know would probably be to do as she said, and talk to Zoe.

I head over to the tent, catching the smile Sally shoots me from across the campsite as I do, and lightly rap on the fabric of the tent with my knuckles.

"Uh, Zoe?" There's no answer, but I can hear her moving about inside. "Zoe, I...I wanna talk to you." The movement stops.

"...Alright." The tent flap unzips, and she lets me in. She's already unpacked most of her stuff, and I've got a sleeping bag laid out for me to sit on. There's a small LED lamp sitting in the corner, casting its light across the whole tent. Both of us sit across from one another, but unlike the quiet that was so comforting with Sally, this one is just awkward.

Do you only use a roll if it is for the option that majority chooses, or are rolls used independent of the vote in the post?

If second, can we elect not to have our role count unless it is used for the option voted for in the same post?

someone needs to archive this if they have not

Your fingers are clearly not broken.

Rolled 6

[X] "Sally is just my partner, nothing more." Confess feelings for Zoe, don't fuck this up!

Resubmitted to make my vote less ambiguous.

I will second the 20 for next time around, we don't want to fuck up our relationship with either of these wonderful people
>>
>>25616324
Rolls have been done, it is too late.

If you didn't want to fuck your relationship up with both of them, you shouldn't have lead both of them on and then hope the fickle /tg/ dice gods backed your shittery up.

nothing's been rolled, this is the decision we'll start on next thread, if I understand what Gale wrote. And the fickle /tg/ dice gods gave us two additional 20s to use when we wished, so I was seconding the use of one to make it a legit spending

We have 2 Luck 20's, not 2 'Get out of Jail Free' 20's.

You all done fucked up by trying to harem, and Good Luck should not be a way out of it. That would be actually talking things out.

see
>>25610908
they are get of jail free on one-roll actions if we screw up too badly
>>
>>25616511
anon speaks the truth. This decision is the start of the next thread.

>>25616648
The roll was not for a skill, thusly would have been for luck. Gale did say that Luck can be rolled for whenever...

but in general, I suggest spending one of the Luck 20's at the start of the next thread. We don't want to make an enemy out of Zoe...

Ability to speak is not Luck. Rolling for random events while traveling is Luck.

>We don't want to make an enemy out of Zoe...
Then quit being a bunch of autists who expect every npc to jump on board with the harem idea.

next thread is going to start very painfully I think. Let's hope Gale stays with us after each side tries to out-butthurt the other
