You are Captain Numeon Smith of the Knights Inductor chapter of space marines, and commanding officer of the Aprior sector Joint Task Force.

You are currently in transit to your next deployment zone, the hive world of Chalice, which is beset by civil war.

With at least a month in the warp to look forwards to, you are touring the ship and speaking with the various members of your staff.

You have recently been joined by a Battle Magos named Rex Verbal, and a squad of Apriori stealth Terminators under the command of sergeant Sloane.

Your task force stands as follows.

SpecOps: ASIS task force, Eldar Ranger squad.

Air Support: Valkyrie Avenger dropships, Shrike air-space fighters.

Heavy Armor: Fenris main battle tanks, precision rocket artillery.

Infantry Support: Sisters of Battle, Battlesuit Team, Stealth Terminators.

Special Units: Confessor, Tau Commander, Battle Magos.

Old threads here.

You were just talking to commander Vael, who do you wish to talk to next?

Also, I will be writing and posting the after action report from Volkgarod to resolve the story from that world first.
>>
>>25567953
I'd say our eldar ranger, though I suppose he is technically a pathfinder. Of all of our forces, his seem the most likely to suffer from conflicting goals, which makes him the most important one to establish a good personal relationship with.
>>
Is it true that we will come accross Ciaphas Cain later on?
>>
>>25567953
Talk with Crais. Has he had any trouble from the rest of the JTF, and will his Rangers have any problems operating inside of a Hive?
>>
>>25568040
Who said that? Also, the person who brought up the knights last thread deserves a cookie for bringing back old fluff like that.
>>
>>25568046
>Talk with Crais. Has he had any trouble from the rest of the JTF, and will his Rangers have any problems operating inside of a Hive?

We were going to do this at the end of last thread, i see no reason to change the plan now

When the Aprior redevelopment team reaches Volkgarod, they arrive upon a world in mourning.

With a large part of the worlds population dead or wounded, Volkgarod is a world beset by grief now that the gunshots have finally finished echoing. But beyond the grief for lost family and friends, the visitors from Aprior find the people mourning for their beloved leader as well.

Stricken by the plight of his people, the Secretary General's health began to rapidly fail roughly one week after the departure of the last JTF units, and without advanced medical technology to save him he passed away quietly.

As he had no living family or heirs, by Volkgarod law the seat of rulership passed to the highest ranking military officer. The newly sworn in Secretary General Ivan Zhukov has pledged complete cooperation with the visitors from Aprior, siting Captain Smith's example as the chief reason to trust the visitors from the stars with the future of Volkgarod's people.

Though It will likely take decades to repair the damage done by the orks, Volkgarod has at least the chance for a better future.

While we're at the teambuilding spree, we should also meet Kolchack (or have we already? Perhaps he has some knowledge on the hive), Cypress and Confessor-- Cromwell, yes?
>>
>>25568149
Not the best end, but about as good as can be expected. On the plus side, the former Secretary General's slush fund probably helped pay for some industrial assistance from the Apriori.
>>
>>25568194
>While we're at the teambuilding spree, we should also meet Kolchack (or have we already? Perhaps he has some knowledge on the hive), Cypress and Confessor-- Cromwell, yes?

We talked with him briefly, and assigned him to work on the ~necron artifact~ but we should officially welcome him to the ship
>>
>>25568149

You bid goodbye to Vael and go to find Crais.

The rangers have taken over a small barracks in an out of the way corner of the ship, to which you knock a few minutes later.

The door slides open and Crais steps out. Before the door closes you see the dim chambers beyond, the decor distinctly eldar, they seem to have attempted to recreate their home with some degree of success.

Crais watches you expectantly.

"I simply wanted to stop by and check up on my crew, I have not had a chance to simply talk to my people since this began."

Crais nods and leans against the wall, regarding you coolly.

"As I said in my briefing, we are going to be deployed to a hive city for our next mission, and I wanted to check in that this will not be a problem, thus far we have been in open country, where sniping is ideal. I wanted to check on how your deployment will change in this situation."

>>
>>25568245

Do you mean agent Kolchack of ASIS, or Magos Verbal?
>>
>>25568245
You mean Magos Verbal?

Considering where we're going, we need him working on at least these two projects:
Finger Cameras - for power armor, a small camera is built into the fingers of the suit, allowing the wearer to curl a finger around a corner and see what's behind it.

Throw-able Tactical Recon Drone - small spherical robot about the size of a large tomato, capable of self-righting and having spheroidal tracks and a camera. Can be remotely controlled and sends video back to the operator.
>>
>>25568245

Kolchack is the secret service officer in charge of our ASIS team, I believe.
Cypress and the Confessor are representatives of Ecclesiarchy (Aprior branch)

>>25568149

>General Zhukov takes charge
How convenient. Let's hope the new Secretary proves his mettle in a more universally equitable manner.
>>
>>25568106
But this quest has always been about the knights inductor.
>>
>>25568299

Crais nods. "Yes, deployment to certain sections of hive cities can be difficult, tight corridors are not the place for long range marksmen.

However, there are many other places in hives which are more suited to a rangers trade, large open areas and lofty spires. Lower areas are often ill lit, which can aid in stealth even at relatively short distances."

Response?
>>
>>25568334

He means knights as in large Imperial combat walkers being piloted by a marine, an idea for a new unit choice, a less silly version of a grey knight dreadknight sort of thing.
>>
>>25568337
"Thank you; I now have a better idea of how to deploy your team. I will admit that I am not an expert in psker matters, and we have yet to be able to requisition a squad of specialists from home; I am hoping to be able to speak with you on such matter for your advice.
"For example, I know that Eldar have a much greater psychic presence than humans on average; should I be concerned if "allied" Imperium forces have psykers of their own, that they may be able to detect you?"
>>
>>25568371
Um.. I was referring to http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Knight actually. It's a pretty obscure piece of fluff, but they do have remarkably similar capabilities to the riptide, though they were an apocalypse unit only I believe.
>>
>>25568417
This is what I was trying to say.

I like it.
>>
>>25568414

On that note, how does he feel about being deployed in situation when there might be chaos involved.
>>
>>25568444
Oh, good point.
ESPECIALLY if there are Slaaneshi cultists.
>>

Crais thinks for a moment.

"Psychics can present a risk in this way, though it is not as serious as you might think. Contrary to human superstition, a psychic cannot read the minds of everyone in the room with a casual glance, and the mind is not like a book which you can simply parse through at your leisure. To detect our nature one would have to actively be scanning, and an active scan of anyone in your organization would be compromising, not simply us.

To the average observer, our auras simply shine brighter than most, only a psychic experienced in dealing with my kind would have a chance of telling what it means."

TBC
>>
>>25568531

"Good." You say. "Also, it is possible that we could be encountering the forces of chaos on our next deployment, as the situation could be easily explained by their presence. I am aware of the history between your people and the entity Slaanesh, and I would not be doing my job if I did not ask, are you good to deal with this?"

Crais nods soberly. "The prospect of facing the servants of she who thirsts is never a pleasant one for any of the eldar, but this would not be the first time I have battled the warp touched. I know that many fear those who can bend the immaterial to their will, especially amongst your people mon'keigh. I myself have found that there are many things in this galaxy which can kill you, but few of them can do so once you remove their head."

He nods confidently.

"And that is where we excel."

Response?
>>
>>25568584

"Your confidence is reassuring. You've given me some food for thought, for now I'l leave you to preparations.

And... It's good to have you with us."

Those rangers are of Exodite stock, right? Do they have access to webway? Although even if they did, they would be probably unwilling to share...
>>
>>25568642

They are from a yet unnamed craftworld.

The official reason for them being here is out of gratitude for defending an Exodite colony from dark eldar, unofficially...

Nobody really knows, though their home craftworld has not acted against Aprior in the past.
>>
>>25568584
"With our Silencers we have less trouble then most, though there are still a threat. Regardless, we don't have any silencers with us here. "
>>
>>25568584
"Very well, Crais. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst."

I believe we should check in with Cypress and Confessor Cromwell next. Just to make sure that the Sisters have been able to work without feeling constricted.
>>
>>25568584

"With our silencers we have less to fear in Aprior than most, though regardless we do not have any with us now. Your confidence is reassuring, and you have given me some food for thought, I shall keep this in mind during our coming mission. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst, as we say in Aprior."

Crais nods and returns to the rangers chambers.

You decide to speak with your local religious leaders next, and seek out Confessor Cromwell and Sister Cypress. The most devout of your task force have taken up residence near your ships chapel, a relatively modest one by Imperial standards, but the Apriori are a comparatively modest people.

You enter quietly, just in time to see Cromwell finishing a sermon from his pulpit, a mixed crowd of guardsmen, vehicle crews, and sisters in attendance.

TBC
>>
>>25568770

"Our task is dire brethren," Cromwell is saying, "And our burden heavy and hard to bear, I know that the path forwards will not be easy. But this burden is ours to bear, as Apriori, and bear it we must. Why you might ask? Simply because there is no one else to do it, there is only us. We are those who shall bring the light of truth and reason back to the Imperium, to extend the warm hand of brotherhood to all who would accept it, regardless of race or creed.

What I ask divides us? Why in this very room we have humans and tau, sisters and knights, we seem so very much apart, so very different. But I challenge you, I challenge you when next you walk through a crowded market, or sit in a feasting hall to close your eyes and listen.

Listen to the voices and the words they speak, and you will forget the throats they come from, you can scarce tell if they come from a human, a tau, or even an eldar. For indeed the flesh is meaningless, divinity is not bound to a skeleton or a skin, we are luminous beings beyond the temporary constraints of the flesh, and in the end all are brethren, we are all family.

Therefore, let us carry forwards the Aprior way, the way of brotherhood and camaraderie, the way of peace, whenever it can be had.

Thank you."

The room is filled with applause and invocations, and Cromwell bows and steps down from his pulpit.

sorry guys but I am going to go eat dinner and watch a movie with the family, didn't know about this earlier.

>mfw Apriori clap when a sermon ends

Anyway, we could ask the good fellow about his thoughts on the world we recently departed and the aftermath of his mission - does he think Zhukov will make a good governor? - but more importantly whether he familiarized himself with situation on our present destination. Civil wars are always nasty business...
>>
So, besides listening to the rebel's grievances, checking for Chaos activity among both Loyalist and Rebel factions, and having the Confessor lipase with any local Ecclesiarchy groups, what else should we prepare for?

Geenstealers (Though from a meta perspective this is unlikely) and eldar dickery. Oh and Alpha legion.
>>
>>25570469

More jeanstealers? Eldar/dark eldar dickery? Blood Raven Gift Collectors?

I suppose matters will become clearer once we arrive. For all we know it could be an entirely domestic issue, like a feud between merchant families blown out of proportions... I don't know whether this sort of things happen on hive worlds.

"Confessor." You say, walking over, "I am glad I caught you when you could talk, I imagine your duties keep you very busy."

Cromwell nods. "Tending to the spiritual health of the men is a difficult task, but I relish it, no challenge is too great when the well being of my charges is at stake."

"I am glad you are holding up well, I imagine that there will be difficult times ahead. We have succeeded on two accounts now of preventing great civil unrest, even civil war, though now one is raging in full swing. I am unsure of how we are going to rectify this situation, but I know that you are likely to be key in dealing with the locals."

Cromwell nods again. "I agree, much of my task here is to serve as diplomat between you and the more, enthusiastic strains of the Imperial faith."

You nod your agreement. "And for that I am grateful, I know it cannot be easy."

Cromwell looks over his chapel. It is unusual by Imperial standards, small incense burners and tasteful paintings and tapestries. There are no massive golden statues or hovering cyber cherubs here, it is for lack of better words, elegant and simple.

"No it is not." I am a man of Aprior, I have had little experience with the forces of the wider Imperium. My first real exposure was on Volkgarod, a people overcome with fervor and devotion, even zealotry. I know that this is the way of the Imperium, but I still cannot fathom it, nor do I accept it. There is too much to be lost by preaching messages of hate. Those are too easy, too simple to be swept away in the tide of hatred. The Aprior way may be difficult, but I have no doubt that in the end we shall be vindicated."

Has the Confessor faced chaos cultist during his career? On a world so densely populated there are liable to be pockets of chaos, even if it's not the core issue.

"I know. In Dire times people turn to faith, and few times were ever more dire then those following the Emperors wound. Humanity had finally begun to recover from the twin blows of the AI rebellion and the subsequent birth of Slaneesh. The future looked bright, and humanities place secure once more. Then Horus Fell to chaos, and we were smashed back to bedrock once more, this time without our emperor to guide us directly. The hate and fear, the loss that generated is still with us even today, a haunting wound that, in Aprior at least, has finally begun to heal. Hopefully we can spread that to the rest of the Imperium in time, and mankind's future will shine bright once more."

Cromwell smiles.

"Perhaps it is a pity you joined the Knights Captain, you could have made a good preacher in another life. Yes, dire times do drive men to faith, and it is so easy to hate. We are like a starving wolf, kicked and abused, bleeding but still fighting. Howling against the darkness and snapping at any who come near. But that wound was dealt long ago, it is time to heal, time to let go of our hatred and step back into the light."

"Well said." You say, "I hate to bring this conversation down to more practical matters, but I wish to discuss the coming campaign. In a hive such as this, it is likely that we will be facing agents of the great enemy, that the hand of chaos will be in play in some form or another. Do you have any experience in dealing with chaos cults? Any advice that you can give?"

Cromwell rocks back on his heels and thinks.

"I have dealt with several cults in my time, as a spiritual leader of my rank it is my duty to aid in tracking down those led astray by the ruinous powers. I can tell you this, and this holds true no matter what god the cultists follow. There are two major kinds of cultists. There are those who are desperate, who are seeking some kind of release or comfort. These are the ones who have lost their faith in the Emperor as they cannot see his guiding hand, so they turn to deities who choose to act more directly and dramatically. These are the easiest for us to deal with, some of them can be guided back."

TBC
>>
>>25571478

Cromwell sighs. "And then there are the true believers, those who are fully devoted to their patron god, and who have offered up all they have in devotion to them. These usually cannot be dealt with peacefully, they are well and truly lost. Even if they retain their reason they are truly devoted, and many of them have had their minds warped by chaos to where they are incapable of relenting. For chaos warps and twists everything it touches, the ability to reason is lost, inhibitions fade, nothing seems too evil or brutal if it is what the god demands. Some can be saved, many cannot. That is all I can say."

"Thank you, Confessor. I shall let you get on with you duties."

He thanks you and returns to his congregation. You find Cypress not far away, speaking with a few of her sisters, discussing the previous engagements they have faced, and going over the basics of combat in a tightly packed hive city, watching out for corner ambushes and traps, as well as the more normal hazards of the hives. Upon seeing you, she stands and smiles.

"Captain, I have not seen you down here before. To what do I owe the honor?"

"Touring the ship, speaking with the crew, we are likely in for a tough fight ahead."

She nods. "Yes, city fights tend to turn nightmarish, and hives are the worst of all."

She steps away from her sisters, speaking privately

"I am also worried about my sisters mental states. I trust them all with my life, but they have never seen anything like what we are going to. Aprior has no hives, they have never seen the kind of depravity and brutality that they can breed. My order is an optimistic one, I worry about how my younger sisters will handle the experience of walking a hive world for the first time.

"I hear that, it's not easy being the torchbearers for an entire way of life, but I am sure we can do our best. That's all we can do in the end."

You nod, "Yes, all we can do. I have no doubts that we can overcome anything if we stand together."

You say your goodbyes and head down to the manufacturing wing. Whilst the rest of the ship is fairly modular and could be put to more or less any purpose, this sector has been turned entirely over to the admech, and it shows. Everywhere cables run in neat ropes and devices of various unknown purposes dot every nook and cranny. Large robotic arms hang from the ceiling and clusters of mechadendrites stand ready to effect repairs or begin construction on anything the minds of the techpriests might dream up. And there is the head man now, you see Magos Verbal speaking with a few other techpriests.

He finishes his conversation and turns to you, resting his metal hands on his hips. You see he wears a wide belt covered in various tools and electronics, as well as a plasma pistol and a power sword bearing the icon of the mechanicus on its hilt.

"Magos, I appreciate your speaking with me on such minimal notice

Verbal waves a hand. "No need for such protocol Captain, I am not some stuffy drone filing paperwork. I am actually rather glad you came by, I wanted to show you some devices which I believe should aid you greatly."

TBC
>>
>>25572086

He leads you over to an area cleared of any nearby machinery, with only a table covered in various bits of gear, most of which you have never seen before.

"First things first." He says, "One of the more popular devices I have brought, the mark 3 semi-autonomous recon drone AKA the Sparrow."

He picks up a round object, looking somewhat like a squashed sphere. The rounded caps on either side project just outward of a recessed circle covered in cameras and sensors.

"The sparrow is capable of operating on its own, or being remote controlled or simply ordered around, has a power cell which can last for several hours of sustained flight, though landing it can extend the power much longer. Simply activate it and throw it."

He taps a key on the side of the device and tosses it like a discus. It spins through the air for a moment before bouncing up and hovering. At a wave from Verbal it darts off and begins examining the room, taking a moment to study each individual it encounters.

"It will send what it sees back to its operator, and includes visual sonic and thermal sensors. It can also send its data directly to your HUD, ranging from a picture feed to simple highlighting of enemies and targets."

TBC
>>
>>25572205

After that he runs the gamut of devices he has brought. Automated gun turrets, tracked assault drones. Hovering weapons platforms, speedy UCAVs. He even shows you some conceptual work on what he has dubbed "Project Stormbringer". A Valkyrie which has had its entire troop bay replaced with various heavy weapons, meant to circle a combat zone and pour destruction down into the enemies below.

He also goes through various attatchments for weapons he has brought, ranging from night vision scopes to gun cameras and secondary weapons of all kinds.

Suffice it to say, you will have a wide array of choices in the coming battle.

Finally, he shows off the Aprior Jump Pack.

TBC
>>
>>25572289
Swooping Hawks derived jetpack here we come.
>>
>>25572289

"This is a personal favorite of mine." He says, holding up the backpack like device. It is clearly intended to attach to your reactor pack.

"Partially because I worked on the design team, but I must also admit that this was one of the most fun things I ever designed. Unlike standard Imperial packs, the Aprior variant relies mainly upon a gravity modulation field, rather than raw thruster power to attain lift.

An in built gravity generator alters the gravatic properties of the wearer, making him lighter as needed. By lowering the effective mass of the user, the thrusters are needed to serve as only maneuvering jets rather than lift engines.

This makes the Aprior pattern much quieter than normal Imperial makes, and allows the wearer to even jump considerable distances without activating the thrusters.

Be warned however, that the gravity field can have some negative side effects. I advise against turning the field to maximum in high winds."

Response?
>>
>>25572382
Very nice.
>>
>>25572348
While that would be stylish, and probably make the blood angels SO happy it looks like it is not to be fellow anon. Oh well.
>>
>>25572411

Well, the Apriori gained their knowledge of gravity manipulation from looking at tau and eldar tech, as well as old Imperial tech, so it could include some knowledge gained from swooping hawk gear.
>>
>>25572429
It would be the shiny wings that would make the Blood angles happy. They literally add it to their jump packs to remind themselves of their daddy. If it actually flew because of the wings, well their envy would be hilarious.
>>
>>25572382
"What other negative side effects are there? Can it also be used to soften landings? And what is the maximum capacity? Could the field extend to, say, something I am trying to lift?"
>>
>>25572382

"What other negative side effects are there? Can it also be used to soften landings? And what is the maximum capacity? Could the field extend to, say, something I am trying to lift?"

Verbal considers this.

"Well, some users have problems with nausea in a rapidly fluctuating gravity field, though I doubt that will trouble a Knight very much at all. Simply keep in mind that when your mass is reduced you will be tossed around a lot more, recoil will be greater, and hits are more likely to push you about, even send you flying.

And yes, you could use it to soften a landing, or any other situation where suddenly weighing much less would be helpful. The field itself extends, oh, about as far as the end of a weapon you hold in an outstretched arm. Anything inside the field will be affected, anything outside will not. The device is simply not designed to extend its field, though anything and everything inside the field will be effected, regardless of what or how much there is."

Mounting the grave manipulators in the wings might be fun. It would look awesome, but would be an interesting tip of to its nature to the very knowledgeable.

>>
>>25572619
Not really no.
>>
>>25572673

"Thank you Magos, one thing I would request is that you look into any way to dampen the sound of a marine or terminator armor in movement, stealth is key to many of our operations."

Verbal says he will get on it, and thanks you for your time.

You next go to talk to Sergeant Sloane, the commander of your terminator unit.

You find him in the firing range taking practice shots with a bolt pistol at a few hololithic targets. You almost don't recognize him out of his massive armor, though even without it he is large for a Knight. When you enter he draws himself to attention and stows his weapon.

"At ease Sergeant, this is strictly an informal visit, no need to stand on ceremony now."

Sloane relaxes. "I appreciate the visit sir, there's been talk back amongst the Knights about Captain Smith and his task force."

Your eyebrow quirks in interest. "Really?"

The terminator nods. "Don't think that you can be the leading edge of the Knights, nay of Aprior and not be the topic of discussion. I must say that so far the Knights back home hold you in warm regard. Hopefully that will last."

"I can only hope, and strive to be worthy of my brother's praise." You say.

"I also wanted to get up to speed on the capabilities of your stealth systems, I have not served alongside a unit of terminators before. How long can your stealth fields last? Are there any limitations or weaknesses I should be aware of?"

TBC
>>
>>25572845

"Yes, I had wished to tell you in person." Sloane nods, leaning against the wall.

"Heat buildup in the system is the greatest enemy of our stealth suits, too much use and our systems will simply melt down and become useless. The system is good for approximately five or six minutes of constant use before it needs to cool down.

Now, that time is based on a moving terminator, where the field needs to constantly shift and rearrange to deal with a moving body shape, and moving background. Standing perfectly still, against an unmoving backdrop, the system can last for much longer. This makes our unit very adept at surprises and ambush tactics.

Other things which can fault the system are flying debris which can bounce off the armor, this tends to mess up the field and seeing things bounce off of a wall that shouldn't be there tends to raise red flags."

Further questions?
>>
>>25572929
Any concerns being raised at home that I should know about?
>>
>>25572961

"Any concerns being raised at home that I should know about?"

"Well," begins Sloane, "there is the question of exactly what to do with the several thousand genestealers you sent back from Tyrae. Safe to say that you overwhelmed the treatment system a bit, but most are getting through. A lot of the implantees have been treated, but that still leaves, what about eight hundred hybrids at last count?

Safe to say that the hybrid population of Aprior just significantly increased. There's a debate right now as to whether to form a separate community for them when they're treated, or to grant them full citizenship.

Needless to say it's a rather passionate debate. While you may not always be popular in the wider Imperium, know that so far the people of Aprior have nothing but admiration for what you've been doing."

Anything else?
>>
>>25573069
Nope.
>>
>>25573069
They still have a parasitic reproduction cycle. I think any community would not be stable for more then a generation. Anyway, nothing else.
>>
>>25573129
Given Apriori medical wizardry, I'm sure they can come up with something. I don't think most genestealer families have a Magos Biologis trying to figure out how to let them reproduce in a non-geiger fashion.

The guard commander then. After him I think the only thing left is the ASIS or the captain of the ship, who we haven't dealt with since thread one.

You find Colonel O'Niell in an observation deck, overlooking a large training room. On the field below several squads are running through urban combat exercises against a team of hololithic rebels, the simulated enemies putting up a stiff fight against the troopers.

"Colonel." You say as you enter the observation room. "How are you holding up."

O'Niell grins, though you see it is a little forced. "As well as I have any right to. We got our asses kicked hard back on Volkgarod, and I'm not looking forward to a hive fight. Luckily we have help."

You nod gravely. "I know the casualties were bad on Volkgarod, any major concerns?"

"We're the best of the Apriori guard, that's for damn sure. But I am worried about attrition. We are going further and further out from our homeland, and we can't keep getting replacements for our losses from home for much longer, we're already three months out as it is. Sooner or later we are going to run into troop shortages, and we will have difficulty replacing them."

You nod, a grave possibility indeed. Responses?
>>
>>25573523
"We might have to take in imperial troops from shattered platoons and detachments and say they all died when the headcounters come counting. Of course I hope you'll be choosing those with less fanatisicm."
>>
>>25573523
"We can try to supplement our losses with combat servitors, now that Magos Verbal is with us.
"Would we be forced to accept local reinforcements?"
>>
>>25573523
The two main options I can see are to not lose people or find a closer source of replacements
>>
>>25573523

"Hopefully now that Magos Verbal is with us we can use combat drones and other technologies to minimize losses, but it may be necessary to begin to take reinforcements from local forces, or even adopt the survivors of other guard detachments.

This would be a tricky business of of course, so I trust that you will take all considerations into account before 'adopting' any new guardsmen."

O'Niell nods, "Yes, that whole mess could get a bit sticky, but better to keep a steady supply of replacements than lose half the JTF and let some administratum drone think it's a good idea to merge us with a Krieg regiment."

He shudders at the thought.

>>
>>25573848

Hatchet flight actually, you tank unit is Hammer.

You can if you want to, though they have mostly kept to themselves up til now, and seem competent at their jobs.

You haven't talked to Jager yet, and I think he's the only major character you have not spoken to except perhaps the Captain.
>>

nah, they don't seem that important. Lets talk to him if anyone has anything to say, and get a quick intro to the next mission if no one does.
>>

>>
>>25573925

You bid O'Niell your farewells and go to check on Jager. You knock on the door to his quarters and a few moments later he answers. Jager is looking away when he opens the door and starts to speak.

"And what can I do for... Oh Captain!" When he sees who it is he draws himself up a bit.

"Relax Jager, I think we're both off duty." The hybrid agent is certainly in even less of a uniform than he usually dons, wearing sweat pants and a tank top, ripped open at the sides to accommodate his extra arms.

"I haven't come at a bad time have I?" You ask.

"Oh no," He scoffs, "Just surprised a bit, come in."

Jager's quarters are certainly not to military spec, but then he is technically a civilian agent so you make no mention of it. On a wall hang pictures of Jager standing alongside various teams of ASIS operatives, or commemorating some important moment or another.

On the wall screen you see a paused vid in mid action, 'Deff Skwadron' if you are not mistaken, an action-comedy about a group of ork fighter pilots attached to the Green Shadow. The action is currently frozen with an ork about to be launched through a tree on a failing ejector seat, a look of comical terror on his frozen features.

"So Cap, what did you want to talk about?" Jager asks, putting his hands in his pockets.
>>
>>25574158
How are you holding up?

"How are you doing? With the Ultramarines, I couldn't risk you being outed. But our next mission is in a Hive, and I believe I will have to deploy you."
>>
>>25574158

"I just wanted to see how you have been holding up Jager, I know the last campaign wasn't a comfortable situation, especially with having to hide out on the ship half the time."

Jager nods, "Yeah, I was bouncing off the walls in here by the end, there's only so many times I can take my frustrations out on holo targets before I get bored. Oh speaking of which."

He runs and gets a box, claws clacking on the floor. He opens the case and inside you see a set of four hellpistols hooked up to a central power pack.

"Nice right? Verbal rigged this up for me, a nice improvement over the SMGs."

You examine the pistols and find them to be of fine workmanship, Verbal even made custom grips for the lower pair of pistols to fit Jagers three fingered secondary hands.

"Fine weapons, I am sure you will get the chance to use them soon enough, I am quite certain you will see action on Chalice. Your unique talents and senses make you quite adept at tunnel fighting."

TBC
>>
>>25574357

"Glad to hear it." Jager says, nodding excitedly. "Never been to a hive before, but it can't be that much different than your average tunnel network just, you know, more so."

He puts his new guns down and walks over, a little sheepish.

"I wanted to say I appreciate everything you've done for me Cap. I'm doing quite well here now and it's thanks to you I have a home here. I just wanted to know that it's appreciated."

"Think nothing of it." You say, "You have proven yourself to be an able addition to the force thus far, and I have no doubt you will prove yourself in the future. How have you been doing here by the way? Any problems with the crew now that your secret is out?"

Jager shrugs. "Well I get some odd looks whenever too much chitin is showing, but having tau and humans watch each others backs in a firefight tends to put speciesism to bed fairly well. There's been some friction with a few people but nothing I can't handle, you don't get through ASIS black ops by bruising easily."

He pauses, scratching a chitin plate.

"Okay so that phrase doesn't really apply to me, but you take my point."

"I'm glad to hear that you are getting on well, I know you haven't had the best time."

Jager smiles. "Whatever happens out there, whatever wars are fought or world rise and fall, I have a home right here, and that's enough for me."

From the diary of Marcus Colinus, citizen of Tyrae.

We had lost everything in the war, our house and all our possessions blasted into nothingness. We almost lost a lot more. A group of PDF traitors had stormed through our neighborhood rounding people up, taking us to a camp at the nearest base.

A few minutes later, the men from Aprior came swift and devastating, raining from the skies in their gunships, sweeping the compound with gas and gunfire, it was a spectacle to be sure. It was only after we were freed that we learned why the traitors had brought us here, and what they planned to do to us.

I felt sick for days. I watched as the Aprior guardsmen carried dozens of people out of a little fenced area, they looked sick, lolling about on stretchers, bleary like drunks. They said they would do all they could for them, try to cure them of the infection which had taken them over. I hope they can do it, some of my friends were in that compound.

When my family and I returned to our home, we found it half demolished, a sagging ruin burnt away by shells and fire. We had lost everything we had built up over the years, but we still had our lives and for that we should be thankful. A lot of good people don't have that much.

About a week after we returned home, a Knight came to visit us.

We had been busy for that week sorting through what was left of our possessions, and trying to rebuild our house, a slow painstaking process as we had to figure out which parts of the house were still good enough to support weight.

He must have been assigned to the local garrison, or perhaps visiting to check up on things. We saw him coming from a long way away, walking down the sidewalk. Even in camouflage a Knight tends to stand out when strolling down the street. We thought he was on patrol, or perhaps going to meet up with his team, but he came to a stop at our house.

I admit, I was afraid. Had we done something wrong? Something to anger the Knights? We had already proven that my family and I were free from the xeno taint. He stood there, silently for a moment, me and my son to afraid to say anything.

Then he walked over to a pallet of lumber, and picked it up without any effort at all.

"Where do you need it?" He asked simply. I was unable to speak, so I simply pointed to where I had planned to move it, and he carried it over and set it down, next going to move a pile of bricks.

He stayed with us until long after nightfall, helping us to rebuild our home. That's why you'll find a picture of the Knight seal on our wall, in thanks to the brave men and women of Aprior who came to give us our lives and homes back, though they were far from their own.

Now that the war is over, I think I will find a new job working with the visitors from Aprior, helping to bring their advances to our world. Some of their ideas seem radical, but if they produced the kind of people who came to save us it cannot be all bad, I think I will give them a chance to prove their ideas.

I owe the Knights from Aprior that much.

Excerpt from sermon given by Confessor Cromwell of the Aprior JTF, to the citizens of Tyrae, broadcast live from the Midnight Flame.

"Brothers and sisters of Tyrae, I know full well that your hearts are filled with passion, you see yourselves as slighted by your own leaders, put down by those you have trusted to guide and protect you, but hear me when I ask you lay down your arms. Just as you see yourselves as the vanguard of freedom, as the protectors of society from a powerful tyrant, just as you see yourselves as the guardians of society, so do those you rail against.

Your governor is a man in a hard position, faced with a damaged world on one hand, and on the other he must also meet his tithe requirements to the wider Imperium, for if he does not then your entire world would pay the price most dearly.

Your world is a troubled one, let none deny that, but this is not the time for division. Nay, this is the time for brotherhood, for us all to join together in the effort to rebuild this world. By the Emperor's providence, your world plays hose to the Knights Inductor, and their redoubtable allies. Even now the leader of the Knights is bringing your people together to discuss your differences, and reach a solution which improves the lives of all, not only of some.

I implore you to follow in his footsteps, and to begin to heal the wounds of hate and paranoia with the balm of compassion and brotherhood, for we are all the Emperor's loyal followers, and in His great name to we strive every day."

After giving it some thought, I have chosen to implement a more in depth system for choosing and modifying your gear, an extension of the system for choosing weapons. Like with the weapon system, this is a fairly straightforward slot system, with various choices and limited slots for options like special ammunition, grenades, and deployable devices.

At present the slots stand as follows.

2 slots for primary weapons, this includes all bolters except pistols, plasma guns, SAW, stormlas and Avenger minigun.

2 slots for ammo types where appropriate, usually for the bolter. This slot includes standard bolts, meaning that you cannot have standard bolts and fletchettes and tear gas. Note that every bolt weapon which uses different types of magazine has two slots, so you could have two types of lethal ammo for your rifle, and two types of nonlethal IE painful ordinance for your pistol.

Weapon mods.

Given that most Aprior weapons have a rail system allowing for modification on the fly as needed. Each weapon will have multiple slots, but some types of mods contradict. IE you cannot have two kinds of scopes on the same gun, even if that weapon has four slots total.
>>
>>25582218

Armor mods, you will have a choice of one armor modification. This includes most any form of special gear directly integrated into your armor, such as a jump pack, shoulder mounted weaponry, or most any other special gear you don't hold in your hands.

While it may not seem to make sense how having a jetpack precludes you from welding a hellgun to your shoulder, I am doing this mostly for balance purposes. As you become more powerful you will likely unlock more mod slots for your armor.
>>
>>25582234
This looks interesting. Oh, and nice stories.
>>
>>25582234

Armor mods.

Jump pack: Rather than relying on brute force thrust like standard Imperial models, the Aprior pattern jump pack makes use of Aprior gravity manipulation technology to reduce the effective mass of the wearer, allowing much smaller thrusters to do the job of larger ones, and increasing maneuverability. It also allows for an armored Knight to jump much higher without activating the thrusters, or in any other situation where weighing less would be useful.

>>25582302
Thanks, I'm trying to keep this thread alive until I am ready to play later, no sense in letting it die and having to make a new one.

Guardian weapons system

Knights are trained to fight in groups, to move forwards as an interlocking offensive and to cover each other in combat. The deep seated instinct that having someone watch your back in combat is absolutely necessary has become quite ingrained in the Knight psyche, not surprising given the degree to which teamwork and group cooperation is stressed in their ranks. Not all Knights however are deployed in large groups, some are sent to action in small teams where they cannot always cover their brothers, or be covered themselves.

Faced with this problem, they turned to a standard Aprior solution. If you can't do it yourself, build a machine to do it for you, and thus was born the Guardian.

Essentially, the guardian is a modified hellgun mounted on a servo arm behind the shoulder. Out of combat the system folds neatly against the reactor pack, in combat it stands up like the stinger of some predatory animal and seeks targets according to a built in fire control cogitator.

It is programmed to attack the closest enemy, or any enemy which its programmed profiles deem as the greatest threat, though it prioritizes enemies attacking the operator who are outside the operators field of vision, essentially watching the users back.

It can also be commanded to attack a specific target if the user desires.
>>
>>25582426

Blazing Shield defense system.

Astartes power armor is among the best defense systems available to the warriors of man, but the minds of the Knights Inductor have identified several major problems facing the design. While small arms fire can indeed cause severe damage to the suit in sufficient volumes, a major threat comes in the form of explosive devices such as grenades, satchel charges, and rockets.

Seeking to counter these threats, the Knights consulted the admech of the primary workshop, and the Blazing Shield was born.

The Shield take the form of a pair of omnidirectional las emitters, mounted on a Knights pauldrons. These emitters identify and target incoming ordinance and destroy them at a safe distance with a precise las burst. This system is extremely effective against thrown ordinance or missiles, though too many objects can overwhelm the system.

While quite effective at its role, it does have flaws. Fired projectiles such as bolter rounds or stubber shots move too fast for the system to react, and it has no effect on directed energy weapons.

Despite these flaws, the Blazing Shield has become quite popular amongst the Knights.
>>
>>25582549
These look shiny. Continue.
>>
>>25582582

These are generic weapons mods which can be mounted on most standard Knight weapons due to the rail system.

Firstly, top rail attachments.

Hololithic sight: Extremely popular amongst the Aprior guard, hololithic sights also see use amongst the Knights and sisters. This sight projects a small targeting reticule inside the casing of the sight, allowing for easier target acquisition over the clumsier iron sights. This addition aids in combat at relatively close range, aiding the user in tracking fast moving targets which would otherwise be difficult to target well.
>>
>>25582722

Marksman scope, top rail slot: This optical scope aids the user in long range marksmanship, zooming in on the target to allow distant shots to be precisely targeted. It includes a variable zoom feature, as well as an integrated rangefinder to help the user compensate for bullet drop in long distance shots.
>>
>>25582764
>>25582722

Am moving on to other attachments, any other scope or top rail attachments suggestions would be welcome.
>>
>>25582784
Hud sight. Projects a picture of what it down the sight to your helmet no matter where you are looking.
>>
>>25582764

Gun camera, side or under rail slot: Knight combat doctrine stresses on the importance of cover, many Knights not even moving from a position of complete security until their safety and success is all but secure. Seeking a way to improve the fighting ability of Knights in cover, the Knights commissioned the Aprior admech to produce the gun camera attachment.

Mounted on the side side or bottom of a weapon, this camera is linked to the Knights HUD, allowing the Knight to target with his weapon without actually having to look at where the gun ins pointed. Knights use this to peek around corners, and if needed fire on the enemy with their normal accuracy without ever having to peek anything more than their weapon from behind cover.

It provides no bonuses in standard combat.

>>25582877
Way ahead of you on that front.
>>
>>25582908

Auspex system, side slot: An extension of the mounted dataslate seen on some Aprior lasguns, the Knights have experimented with mounting a miniaturized auspex system on the side of a Knights weapon. This device is an improvement on the integrated autosenses on marine armor, and allows the user to locate enemies through walls or other types of obstructions, though it is far from foolproof.
>>
>>25582960

Strobe light, side or under slot: Used both in general combat and nonlethal pacification to disorient the target, this bright luminator blasts extremely bright light pulses at a very fast rate, disorienting and temporarily blinding any caught within its cone of effect. Apriori forces wearing combat glasses or other eye protection are unaffected, does not work on all enemies.
>>
>>25582996

Grapple gun, side or under mount: This device fires a rocket propelled dart wherever the weapon is aiming. This dart penetrates into most solid surfaces and deploys spikes to maintain its grip. Trailing behind a thin but extremely strong cable, this attachment allows a Knight to easily rappel up or down surfaces, or to swing over gaps or pull an object closer.

It is also available as a separate item.
>>
>>25583160

Ordinance launcher, under slot. When the main weapon is not quite enough, Knights equip this ordinance launcher. Capable of firing numerous kinds of grenades and other explosive devices, this launcher is often a Knights answer to entrenched enemies or large obstructions.

Can fire equivalents of all bolt types, which are more powerful than the standard type, choice of two ammunition types.

Also can fire seeker rockets to deal with small vehicles or structures.
>>
>>25583224
My recommendation additional grenade types: Plasma (Because the apriori are good at this) and two very expensive special types, Haywire and Null.
>>
>>25583224

Underslung plasma pistol, under slot: Essentially an Aprior plasma pistol attached to the bottom of the weapon, allowing the user to fire a plasma blast as part of standard usage of the weapon. This attachment has proven popular amongst Knights whose combat style precludes them from being able to switch to a sidearm, or who utilize other devices and weapons which disallow the use of alternate weapon choices.

>>25583243
Can you please list the effects of these grenades?
>>
>>25583270

Mini Flamer, under slot: Whilst Knights often consider the user of flamers unethical in war, there are some enemies against which the use of the flamer is seen as acceptable. Usually deployed against dark eldar, chaos forces and tyranids, this mini flamer is capable of igniting enemies and structures, as well as putting down a flaming swathe to block enemies movement.
>>
>>25583344

Mini melta, under slot: Similar to the plasma and flamer additions, this is essentially a melta pistol added onto the bottom of an existing weapon, allowing for devastating close quarters shots against heavily armored targets.

Can also be used to destroy obstructions.
>>
>>25583270
Plasma: Big explosion
Haywire: EMP. Based of off Eldar heywire grenade technology, though obviously cruder and less effective. Very expensive, so supply is limited
Null: Pulse of Null energy, similar in theory to psycannon though manufactured by the Apriori. Devastating to demons, and very painful to psykers and eldar. Very expensive, so supply is limited
>>
>>25583396

Slots break down by weapon as thus.

Bolt rifle: top, side, under.

Plasma gun: top, side

Stormlas: top, under

SAW: top, side, under

Avenger: none

DMB: side, under, integrated top scope

Melta: top, side

Longbolt: none

POD: none

You may notice some new gear here, I will explain these in a moment.
>>
>>25583451

Longbolt: When the DMB is not sufficient for long range strikes, the Knights deploy the longbolt. Firing specialized fin-stabilized long cartridge bolts, the longbolt is among the best Knight portable long range weapons in the Aprior arsenal.

POD: When faced with entrenched enemies, the Knights make use of the POD. Standing for Precision Ordinance Delivery, the POD fires a programmable smart grenade, which can be instructed to detonate at a specific distance. This allows an airburst shell to travel behind an enemy's cover, such as a window or trench, and detonate on their exposed flank.

Can fire both lethal and nonlethal shots.
>>
>>25583451

Ammunition types.

>>
>>25583626
stalker?
>>
>>25583626

You have three grenade slots, each grenade comes with differing numbers of grenades.

Frag and Krak: standard Imperial design, three each.

Plasma: large burst radius, two grenades.

EMP: disables electronics, two grenades.

Null: heavily damages psykers and daemons, neutralizes psychic and warp powers for a limited time. One grenade.

Flash bang: stuns and disorients targets, four grenades.

Tear gas: Chokes and blinds targets nonlethaly, four grenades.

Of course the officers would be aware that such subjects of Emperor exist and are sometimes even commonplace, but what of the men?

But I guessed that worlds of Aprior would not be specifically void of abhumans unless there is a reason for them to. I suppose that's for the fluff writers to determine.

Starting population of the sector was actually relatively small with just a handful of inhabited worlds. Most worlds have been settled after the sector was cut off by a warpstorm for 1500 years. So if there were no mutants in the initial population, then there would be no mutants in the current population. That said, the apriori would probably welcome most varieties of Abhumans.

Right, they're not mentioned, and until I do so you can assume their presence nor not as you would. I think Aprior medical wizardry would do a lot to reverse the worse effects of abhuman genetics, but still I would say that Aprior is as diverse, it's just not necessarily the humans that are the source of the diversity.

You bid Jager farewell and decide to head on up to the bridge to say hello to your command crew.

You find them ready at their stations, and the captain greets you as you enter, offering an informal salute, off duty as you are.

"Captain Smith, to what do I owe the pleasure?"

"Simply checking in Captain Darvis, and wishing to congratulate you and your staff on the superb orbital support your provided in the Volkgarod campaign, we could not have won without you."

"Do not be so modest Captain." Darvis says, "I am sure that the mettle of the Knights could have carried the day, though I am glad that my crew and I could be of service to you and your men."

>>
>>25584822

"Thank you Captain, I should go prepare." With a final nod you return to your quarters, checking over the briefing slate once again, examining hive Primus, your specific destination.

As the worlds primary hive, Primus supports the largest population, approximately four billion souls. It is crowned by the crystal palace, the seat of the governorship of the world, which is handled by a familial monarchy and house of nobles.

Below that is the trade sector, home to skilled artisans and tradesman who work to produce finished goods of varying quality, and is a fairly decent place to live as hives go. Below that is the manufacturing sector where massive sweatshops produce massed goods for use on world and to be shipped off world as part of the tithes.

Below that is anarchic sectors where official law rarely goes, followed by the wretched sump and under hive.

You oversee the preparations of your battle brothers, and the rest of the JTF, preparing them for the battle to come. Hive cities are nightmares of close combat and ambushes, not to mention the natural dangers, if such a word can apply to a man made structure like a hive.

A few days later, you arrive in the Chalice system. Chalice itself lies before you, a dusty brown orb hanging in space.

Your comm officer patches through a call from the surface.

"Hello, this is General Malkil of the Armageddon Steel Legion, protector of Chalice, identify yourself at once!"

"This is captain Numeon Smith of the Knights Inductor chapter of Adeptus Astartes and in command of Aprior sector Joint Task Force. We have arrived to assist in reestablishing order on your world."

"Space marines?" The general says, "I had heard you would be a part of our reinforcements but I had scarce hope to believe it. The situation is, difficult down here. The soldiers of my command have held the enemy at bay for some time, though the conflict still rages. Hive Primus is the keystone for this campaign, if we can secure that then I can reroute my men to other trouble spots on this planet and make some real progress."

"What is the disposition of the enemy?" You ask.

"Hive gangs, mutants and heretics, they're not very powerful but by the throne there seems to be no end to them, and they know the underhive well, better than the locals on our side, we are having trouble eliminating them, and suffer casualties every time we attempt to enter the lower sections of the hives."

You nod to yourself.

"What is the situation in hive Primus?"

"Not good Captain, the enemy has pushed up into districts of the manufacturing sector. We're lucky they're so disorganized, their sheer numbers could have carried the day otherwise."

He is gone for a moment, then returns.

"I have received word that governoress Crilane desires an audience with you, in person at the crystal palace."

"Inform the governess that I will be there as soon as possible. In the meantime, please coordinate with Sister Cypress of the Sisters or Reason, Colonel O'Neal of the Guard, Confessor Cromwell, Magos Verbal and Terminator Sergeant Sloane."

"That is, quite a roster. Very well, I shall bring your people up to speed as best I am able. Also, watch yourself around the nobility, they have long been insulated from the realities of their situation as well as being a pack of vultures in their own right, Malkil out."

Who, if anyone, do you bring with you to the meeting?
>>
>>25585620

Take the Confessor and Cypress with us to the meeting. Deploy ASIS team for them to work their magics.

I'd say Guards that we deploy in defensive role don't need to concern themselves with painful ordnance and just shoot to kill. We can and should keep casaulties to minimum when advancing through civilian districts though. Maybe an offer for any insurgent unit that surrenders to be treated with leniency would be in order? But that's a thing for later consideration.

You vox for Cypress and Cromwell to join you, hopefully you can impress the importance of the situation upon the aristocracy and get something done. You also tell Jager to get down there, assist the guard advance with his team and gather any intel he can about the insurgency.

Standing orders are shoot to kill, no chances, though anyone who surrenders is treated with leniency.

Your units prepared, you depart your ship and head down to the surface of Chalice.

>>25585871

Now is the time to choose your wargear, from the list of options above.

One thing I forgot was a choice of deployable equipment, which I shall go over now.

Sparrow recon drone: A small recon drone which can be controlled directly or simply ordered about, guided by its own machine spirit. It is capable of sustained flight and is about one and a half feet across, it will relay anything it sees back to your HUD.

Satchel charges: A supply of remote detonation charges to blow holes in structures and vehicles, even level them if need be. Can also be set up as proximity mines.

Hawk attack drone: Based on a similar design to the Sparrow, the Hawk boasts heavier armor and lasgun armament, and is somewhat larger, though it lacks the advanced sensors of its smaller cousin, and is much less stealthy.

Choose your loadout.
>>
>>25585956

I'd vote for standard + painful ammo for our trusty bolter and a grappling hook. Maybe we'll get a chance to play some Errol Flynn.

Flechette + painful for bolt pistol. Or would you prefer plaspistol and deliver painful blows with our righteous fists instead?

Frag, null and hmm... flash bang 'nades?

Additional orders for the Magos and the Techpriests:

Please begin modifying some of our drop pod stores in the following manners:

Now that we have terminators, I wish to have a ready supply of pods with Locator Beacons. We can drop empty pods, and engage in rapid reinforcement and counterattacks as needed. Since this will be a lengthly campaign, they will need to be defended. A pintle-mounted stormlas instead of a storm bolter should suffice, along with a solar panel or two as I do not want to worry about ammunition resupply. Fire and forget teleport homers, essentially.

With your knowledge of gravitic manipulation, I want you to look into adjusting some drop pods for use by the Sisters of Reason. In an urban campaign, orbital deployment is a luxury and we should make the most of that edge.
They will have to be trained in drop tactics, but I want that card up my sleeve if we need it.

Regarding vehicles: What is the best way we have to get them on the ground? Thunderhawks?

Your wargear prepared, you meet Cypress and Cromwell in the launch bay. You join them in an Avenger, along with some guard units, while the rest of your brothers load into the thunderhawks and prepare to launch.

Once again the forces of Aprior swarm out of the Midnight Flame like a flock of predatory birds, sweeping towards the war torn planet below. The trip down is uninterrupted, no hostiles rise to bar your path, nor would you expect them to, the rebels here do not seem to possess air support.

The ever present smog clouds obscure the surface, but in the distance you see a shining light which pierces the murky clouds. A spire of crystal and glass rises above the murky soup which shrouds Chalice, catching the light in a thousand facets and shimmering like a great gemstone over the world.

The Crystal Palace, your first sight of the world you are to defend.

You set down upon a warmly lit landing pad, the rest of your forces diving into the muddy clouds to land in docking bays more suited for the task of unloading a massive military force.

A royal herald stands waiting for you, his livery flapping in the breeze, a gasmask over his face to protect him from the choking fumes of the atmosphere.

"Greetings honorable visitors, and welcome to the Crystal Palace, my lady bids you attend her in the royal chamber."

He gestures for you to follow.

You nod and follow the herald in. You pass through an airlock and the herald removes his mask, when the door opens you get your first glimpse of the Crystal Palace from the inside.

You have to admit it is a rather stunning piece of architecture, it shone like a jewel from outside but that barely compares to the vista inside. The walls act as prisms to catch the light and bounce the beams about, refracting them to create stunning displays of color which shift and change as you move past them. Looking out you can barely see the murky clouds below, only an endless blue sky and the shining sun soaring over your head.

Ahead of you is the throne, towering over the chamber on a raised dais, upon it sits a woman who looks to be in her early thirties, though with the nobility it is often hard to tell.

Around the bottom of the platform a few dozen local potentates mill about, the chatter of conversation and the clinking of glasses fill the room.

The herald raises his hands for attention, and the room grows quieter.

"I present Captain Smith of the Knights Inductor, present by the request of Lady Crilane, Governess of our fair world."

The room is all but silent now, the locals looking up at the spectacle at the doorway, the Governess herself acknowledging you from her throne with a sweep of her hand.

The herald bows out and disappears from the room, the governess rising from her throne. She wears a flowing dress of a grey material which catches the light as she moves, sending multicolored light dancing around her as she walks.

"You honor me Captain by your presence, I am glad that so redoubtable a warrior of the Imperium is moved to defend my world from the rebellious subjects which threaten it."

"No task is too large or too small for a Knight." You say, "So long as that task is worthy."

"Such modesty." She says, descending the steps and crossing the floor towards you. She walks across a raised platform, above the milling nobles below. "Surely you must understand what your assistance means to us all."

"I am simply here to safeguard your people governess, my duty is all the thanks I require."

"Who knows?" She says with an airy wave of her hand. "One day they simply rejected my just rulership and began to fight, abandoning their labors and striking against my guards."

You frown. "Have you made attempts to reconcile with them, learn their grievances?"

She looks at you, seemingly puzzled. "They are my subjects, why would I treat with my subjects, they are beholden to me. Would you imply otherwise?" Her cheer has turned a little cold.

"No my Lady, but if we can return this world to peace without butchering its people then all the better, dead subjects are no use to anyone."

Find the most valuable piece of property currently in rebel hands and take it back. The rebels are in control of a genetoria complex supplying power to the rest of the surrounding area.

Interestingly, tactical data being passed down from the locals indicates that the rebels are not seemingly using it in any way, nor have they attempted to shut it off or cut the power. However, techpriests are afraid that if left unattended for too long, the reactor could overload and cause significant damage to the surrounding area.

Local forces have thus far been unable to retake it, as the rebels are putting up staunch resistance in that area.

With nothing else to do, you vox for a squad of Knights to meet up with you and you proceed towards you goal.

Brother Linnaeus is waiting for you.

"Captain, welcome to the hive." He says as he waves you over.

"How bad is the situation?" You ask.

"Not good." He says, "The rebels have taken over the generator, and the priests fear that it will only be a matter of about a day until it goes critical if left unattended."

"How bad an explosion are we talking about here?"

You can hear Linnaeus grimace over the vox. "Bad sir, it would vaporize half the district, do untold structural damage to the surrounding area, and I don't even want to think about what the heat and pressure wave would do in a confined area like this. As for the disposition of enemy troops, the spook knows more."

"Right then." Says Jager, I'll just await your triumphant return then."

You put your arm around him.

"Oh you can't be serious." He says flatly.

"Hold on." You say as you activate your gravity field. It is a curious sensation, suddenly weighing a lot less than you did a moment ago. You flex your knees experimentally, testing your weight. Your squad follows suit, gearing up for launch.

Jager clings to your arm like a lifeline as you bend your knees and launch yourself skyward, sailing high into the air with your reduced weight.

When you start to lose momentum you engage your thrusters and sail up towards the ceiling. When you reach the top you go horizontal and skirt effortlessly along it, you must say you find the experience strangely calming.

Jager on the other hand is muttering something angry under his breath. You look down at him.

"Doing alright Jager?" You ask calmly.

"You're enough to give a man a phobia!" he hisses through gritted teeth.

If there is a way to approach them without being exposed to the heavy weapon platform, we might attempt to do so with peaceful intent. If not, let's just commence with removing rabble from the premises.
>>
>>25589538
Well, you are planning to drop down from above, in to the rear of their defenses, so you could attempt to talk right when you hit the ground, or come in swinging.
>>
>>25589483
We have a helmet on, we're not that derp. We need see how they feel about medical supplies and food. Is their cause political? The governess barely told us anything.
>>
>>25589560
Come in swinging, nonlethal.

Ah okay. Well I for one suggest using painful ordnance, take control room and once we hold it, offer the remaining conscious enemies a chance to surrender. If they refuse, use of painful ordnance is optional.

Let's dance the steps of Emperor!

I support this.

Just saying we're running into this firing from the hip. Enforcing order here too quickly isn't needed. The plant has a day, a few minutes won't matter.

Well, better to have it done in a timely manner, since there may always be surprises. We can't count on the rule of cool allowing us to avert disaster in last second like in a holy wood block buster, can we?

No, wait, OP, don't take that as a challenge. Smooth operation is best operation.

You position yourself above the front door to the reactor complex, and you look to your brothers. You are hanging by your hands from the ceiling, your minimal weight allowing you to hold on easily.

"We move fast and hard, nonlethal wherever possible, but we need to secure this complex so do what you have to."

With one last nod, you push off from the ceiling and begin plummeting towards the rebels below.

State actions and roll to engage, your armaments are:

Primary 1: bolt rifle, holo sight, strobe light, auspex, standard and tear gas bolts.

Primary 2: Riot shield.

Sidearm: bolt pistol, bean bag and standard.

Frag (3), flashbang (4), and null grenades(1).

Look, the reason why I suggest this is because we have tried it many times before and it doesn't fit the character. It's a tough sell, but it least should be attempted. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

And I'm sorry for holding things up.
>>
>>25589737
Really wish we'd taken the recon drone for this. Silent, quick as possible, non-lethal.
>>
>>25589737
Toss some flash grenades on the enemy concentrations on the decent. Half of the squad targets the heavy ordinance that is blocking the primary axis of advance, the other half is going for the command center. Once the guns are cleared allied units are to push forward and help secure the facility. Have our vox caster call for people to lay down their weapons and surrender. Promise that those who do so shall not be harmed.
>>
>>25589749
No offense taken, I love to see discussion in the group. And we are using nonlethal ordinance here, so we can negotiate after we secure the reactor, but most players want to go in fast and loud, so here we go.

Gas'em and move past'em. Use the drone to scout out choke points if we encounter any,
>>
>>25589846
>46

You draw a flash grenade from your bandolier and prime it, throwing it down straight below you. The ordinance hits the ground and detonates, sending rebels reeling for cover. You fire a few bursts of tear gas bolts from your rifle, the thick gas choking a few groups of rebels.

Unprepared for a full squad of Knights to drop from above bolters blazing, the rebel line is in disarray, those who are still up are rushing to get the weapons emplacements turned around or are rushing at you with whatever weapons they can grab.

The door to the reactor complex is right beside you, and the only guards are either choking on the ground or sleeping with welts on their heads.

Actions?

>>25589846
Hawk done doesn't have awesome sensors. :/

Like I said, we could use a Sparrow. Go in Fast, silent, and non-lethal.

get in there. Have half the squad secure the immediate area, and have the guard begin moving up. We have a control room to capture.

Enter the compound and (b)lock the door behind you. With luck we can catch the next group of guards by surprise as well if we're quick enough.

Also, the word is "ordnance", without the 'i'. "ordinance" means "law" according to my dictionary. Sorry about the autism.
>>
>>25589952
Go in carefully, they may have emplacements inside the generator complex.

"Charlie team secure the door, alpha and bravo with me! You too Jager."

You move in carefully, deploying the hawk drone to scout the halls ahead of you. It may not have the advanced sensors of the sparrow, but between that and the auspex on your bolter, you are able to get a good idea of the enemy position.

You come to a halt near a corner, your auspex indicating about two dozen hostiles in the hallway ahead. Their positioning indicates they are likely huddling around a heavy weapon of some kind.

You send that hawk drone zipping around the corner. You hear yelps and cries of anger, and a heavy thumping sound. You pull the pin on a flashbang and throw it around the corner, coming charging in just as the flash dissipates.

Safe to say that, despite their knowing there were enemies in the building, the guards were completely unprepared. You fire a few tear gas grenades and dazzle them with your strobe light. By the time you get to them they have barely any fight left, and you secure them easily.

A few shots from your bolter disables the stolen stubber they were huddling around, and you move on to your objective unimpeded.

Dealing with a few more guard posts in similar fashion, you finally arrive at the control center. While the control panel is mostly gibberish to you, you can recognize a warning message when you see it. Flashing warnings blare about 'pressure buildup', 'containment buckling' and 'failure imminent'.

You decide to put a cal through h to Magos Verbal.

TBC
>>
>>25590358

"Magos Verbal, I am looking at what appears to be an imminent reactor containment failure, please examine the situation through my helmet feed and advise."

You hear Verbal muttering to himself for a few moments before he responds.

"Nothing you can do from here, you will have to go down to the containment system and manually throw the release lever, that will vent the air pressure into the exterior atmosphere outside the hive, and prevent a rupture. I would also advise haste, you have half an hour at most before that ruptures catastrophically."

"I thought we had a day before it blew." You said, already in motion.

"Apparently not, I should like to examine the site myself to determine the cause, once you have finished securing it of course."

You switch off the vox and head into the reactor chamber itself. Your high flying drone gives you a little forward recon, a few dozen rebels have gathered around the pressure release controls, one is ranting at his followers though you cannot tell what he is saying, the hawk's sensors are not up to the task.

They have a few heavy weapons, mostly stubbers, set up in makeshift defenses, most of the rebels are holding lasguns, small stubbers, or large blades and other melee weapons.

Actions? Roll as needed.

Shout to them that the reactor is going to explode in half an hour and we are trying to stop that?

Oh boy.

Better be double timing it then.

Can we use intercom to address those rebels? Do they know they are about to blow up the entire neighbourhood?

Barring that, disperse the rabble. Fire with the drone from a different direction and take them out with tear gas.

You use your jump pack to leap up on top of some machinery and crank your amplivox to maximum.

"Attention! This facility is about to experience a catastrophic containment breach! I must activate the pressure release system to prevent the destruction of this entire district!"

The rebels look at you for a moment. Their leader brings up his weapon and screams at his men "KILL HIM!"

Such a shame, you think.

The hawk slashes through their formation, disorienting them, as you fill their position with tear gas. They fight on even through the choking haze, but quickly succumb to belting waves of bean bags and rubber pellets. You rush over and activate the release valve, the pressure venting through the pipes with a great "WHOOSH".

It seems that you have averted a disaster, good thing you got here when you did. Now you need to get the Magos down here to figure out how this happened in the first place.

I think that's it for me, I'm dead tired and have been doing this all day. I should be on /tg/ tomorrow, but that will be for other things, I need a short break from this quest.

It should be back on Monday. If you have any questions I will answer them here.

Thanks for playing.
