"What of the nobles plotting against us?" You ask. All three have ideas.

Gunther: "Public execution. They're being careful and not getting their hands too dirty, but they still slipped up enough for our informants to catch on. I say we line them up against their front wall and make it quick and simple."
Doyle: "An overt display may cause too much fuss, as might any sort of retaliation without direct proof. The issue is that they're looking to recruit talent from the city's underbelly, and the coinage here is not as easily traced. Gold bars and other such things are common in the criminal circuits, causing some difficulty in finding origins."
Siegfried speaks up as well, "We could take the heads of the household captive. Invite them for a personal meeting, then ply... Interrogation methods to make them confess to their schemes, and name any co-conspirators."

You are Oberst Hans Landa, civil engineer and Oberst of the Third Reich, sent forth by means of a magical gate into a land of magic and monsters. A land of apparent fantasy, but the violence and depravity of which has assured you it is very, very real.

Your dreams have been plagued with awful images the last few nights. Though you gain a full night's rest, or at least as close to it as you've been able to get with the constant demands of managing operations, your mind is plagued with these phantasms of your dreams. Images of dank dungeon cells; rows of vaguely humanoid figures gathered in cathedrals in dark red robes that seemed to stretch all the way to the ceiling; fleets of wooden sailing ships of unknown make and origin, looking either too crude or too elegant to sail upon the Earth's waters, sailing past you as you slowly drown; of pain and suffering endured at the hands of captors that do not speak your language, do not speak any language you have ever heard before.
>>

Today is a day like any other, or, at least, you hope as such. You are gathered with your officers, Siegfried, the Thule Society liaison that has gained quick power as a sorcerer. Gunther, the SS commando and lumbering giant. Doyle, the Gestapo political officer.

All four of you stand around a large table, in the middle of the command center that has been furbished inside of Redding's central keep. The city, though small in comparison to Berlin, sprawls on the map before you. You stare at the crude wooden figurines laid out across the table, representing squads, platoons, factories, ammunition depots, and more. Spanning not only the city you have conquered, but also the surrounding areas.

Albert Speer is soon to visit your locale, arriving with the next opening of the massive and alien magical Gate that brought you to this world, Its activation date draws nearer and nearer, as do the forces of those that would seek to see your operation undone.

You stare at the map arrayed before you. You control a single city, in an entirely new world, a world you have no idea the scale of. No idea the enormity of. You are, for all of your advanced technology, undoubtedly the underdog in this situation. Germany did not become a world power by virtue of being the incumbent, however, and you know that the Reich shall prosper here as it has elsewhere.

It will just require your mind, your greatest weapon, to be applied to its fullest extent. You look around the facility, as a voice pipes up from the side of the command center, an adjutant on one of the radio banks speaking up.
>>
>>25558063
Oh crap the Oberrst is here I'm not caught up on the last thread. TO THE ARCHIVES! LOS!
>>
>>25558071
"Oberst!" The young woman at the station pipes up, "I have a radio report from our outpost near Riverside. They report that the locals have come forth with new information in light of improved relations. There is apparently some sort of campsite or facility of the local Empire to the west of the village. Full details are pending, but from what our people are able to determine, it functions as some sort of research facility."

"Likely why it has evaded our notice for so long." Gunther pipes up, "Still, that's quite a ways away for a strike force from here."

You look over to Siegfried, who remains pointedly silent at your unspoken question of why it was not detected. It may not be a poor idea to let Siegfried take his requested leave of absence... or it could prove very poor, considering something like this slipped your nets with someone as apparently powerful as he is in your coterie.

Siegfried speaks up, "It is likely that this facility is extremely heavily guarded, if it has escaped our notice, and public record."

Doyle nods, "Indeed. However, the fact that they have not come forward to attack could be indicative of weakness, especially against our weaponry."

Gunther seems neutral, "Or it could be that they're biding their time for reinforcements, or simply content to work as forward observers."

Siegfried hums, "Could also be that they have no interest in our conflict. It would not surprise me if conflicts such as what we are engaged in are common in their world, being as feudal as it is."

Doyle: "And what will Herr Speer think if he arrives to find us engaged in the throes of some battle, rather than working to build up the Reich's power here? We are in a tentative position as it is."
>>
>>25558121
Gunther: "A position that's not too tentative, considering the assets we have already."

Siegfried nods at Gunther's assessment, "Indeed, it's not as though we are at a lack of manpower or bodies. Simply stretched a bit thin, but is it not the doctrine of a lightning war to keep manpower moving and engaged?"

Gunther seems a bit surprised at an insight like that from Siegfried. You are too, to be frank.

Doyle: "We have many issues in all directions." He concedes, before looking directly at you. "What say you, Oberst Landa? Shall we address our manpower issues? Consolidate? Continue to expand? We are at a new point of expansion, it appears."

... You can't help but sip your coffee, reaching down to take a sip of the cooling drink.

Sieg Heil all.

I think we should instruct Doyle to arrest the entirety of those two minor noble houses that were conspiring against the Reich. Singular arrests creates resentment against occupying forces, this avoids that and provides an illustration of our power.

Personally I think the families should be arrested during the night in accordance with this policy: (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nacht_und_Nebel)

As for this 'research facility', we can afford to attack it yet. We're still planning an attack on the Fort to the north (which attacked one of our patrols and may be holding some prisoner).

So I vote for consolidation at the moment.
>>
>>25558353
I'll agree with consolidation
>>
>>25558353
I like this plan of action and while we are consolidation our forces we should of course plan to strike at this research base at the next possible moment.
>>
> http://emlia.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=TheFourthEmpire.TheFourthEmpire for additional reading materials.

>>25558353
You look to Doyle, "We should arrest the entirety of those noble houses. It would work well to stop them from getting any big ideas early on." You state.

Doyle nods, "I'll have them arrested. It should do well to keep the families as a whole pacified."

Gunther: "We should strike at night as well." He encourages, "They'll be less likely to be aware at night, and it's worked well so far." He states, though you don't recall giving any orders authorizing night raids. An interesting tidbit.

>>25558353
>>25558462
>>25558533
You pause in consideration. "Consolidation." You eventually decide. "The Gate's about to open shortly anyways, and with the additional manpower we can do well." You remark.

Siegfried speaks up again, seemingly very talkative today. He offers you a thin smile, "If we condemn the families to death, Oberst, after arrest, I could work them into a much weaker version of the ritual I have in mind. It won't be the same as though we sacrificed mages, not even close, but if those families amount to say..."

Gunther speaks up, a wicked smile on his face. "Let's say about forty people total, not counting the house staff, which I could have arrested also by association. People here don't tend to care much about the working class." He adds, his face dipping into a scowl.

"Yes." Siegfried remarks, giving a little laugh, "I could actually create a rather extensive opening. It would need to be carefully timed, however, with the actual opening of the Gate." He states, though how he knows this is unclear. "Their deaths would force the Gate open longer and, with sufficient preparations, I would be able to keep it open for a good deal of time."
>>
>>25558651
Doyle pauses, seemingly a bit uncomfortable, but managing a resolute face. "How do you wish to further consolidate? We hold the city, and while we could add fortifications, we should focus on just what sort of fortifications to add on to what already exists."
>>
>>25558651
Mental note...talk to Gunther about his night-time activities sometime soon, but preferably not in front of the other officers, we have to ensure that we appear to be completely in control at least.

Have the house staff arrested as well, there can be no witnesses to our night raids. The primary aim is to create fear by making people simply evaporate without a trace; that is kind of undermined when servants see our soldiers arresting people.

Have Siegfried use these new prisoners as sacrifices, we need to assault that Fort to see if any of our captured men still live. Have him work directly with Gunther and the SS commandos; these families should simply disappear and even our own regular soldiers shouldn't know what happened to them.
>>
>>25558651
Agree with Gunther on arresting them during the night, interrogate the leaders and prepare to have them round up as sacrifices depending on what we get out of them. We have already given them a chance to resist peacefully and have spared them all the mis-conformts of foreign occupation. We must be merciless and swift, if we are not to be taken as weak-minded fools!

We could also need those extra forces/supplies from the Reich which we get by keeping the gate open for longer. We also need to try out the ritual, we need to know that it works and how much we can rely on it in an emergency!
>>
>>25558665
Focus our efforts on fire defense, if things starts burning, we will be roasted like sausages!
>>
>>25558651

Leave the workers, for now.

Condemn the nobles IF they are guilty.

Contact HQ and see what they can get us in terms of AFVs and half-tracks.
>>
>>25559060
having them killed because they didn't snitch should be considered.
>>
>>25558651
The time has come to authorize the ritual. We have need of more assets then currently available, and we have materials to be shipped back to prove this expeditions success. Gather up the wounded and crippled POW's and add them to the sacrifices, alongside the working staffs of the traitorous houses. An example need be made.

None shall cross the Third Reich. Hail Mein Führer

You make a mental note of approaching Gunther later about just what he's been up to at night to know the effectiveness of nighttime raids.

You debate, briefly, the merits of having the house staff arrested as well. However, you find yourself rationalizing quite well that the house staff not only failed to snitch, but also are likely colluding with their masters. As such, they are every bit as worthy of this nighttime disappearance as any other.

"They had their chance to resist peacefully." You decide eventually, "The house staff will be arrested as well. I want this to be a total disappearance-- not one trace that they were ever there."

Gunther grins at that, "None?" He asks, and you gain a distinctly wolfish impression from him.

"None." You affirm, and you feel a sudden weight on your shoulders. The weight of knowledge that though these people will execute your orders, you are the one that pulled the trigger.

The weight is quickly gone, replaced with a mild satisfaction, euphoric, even. You're settling into the role of a leader quite well. A ruler, even.

Gunther seems to approve, smiling for now. It's mildly unnerving, to say the least.

You sip your coffee again, lost in thought. "Doyle," You remark, looking over to the man. He perks up.

"Yes, Oberst?"

"Fire. This city is far too flammable. See what you can get organized in terms of fire defense. We have a chemical factory, they ought to be able to get fire suppressants whipped up for the locals to use in case of incendiaries or those explosive fireball spells."

Siegfried seems to approve of this, nodding. "While I cannot state that all magical flames can be suppressed this way, it seems that the most common flames conjured by magic can be easily suppressed with your scientific methods."

'Your' scientific methods. You pause at that, but move on.
>>
>>25559276
"We'll have them sacrificed." You go on, feeling set in your path. "One and all." It's only noon, and you're already electing on human sacrifices. A part of your mind mocks you, but you feel confident in this heavy choice.

"What does HQ have to say about getting more half-tracks to move squads around? We have plenty of fuel production going on." You remark, looking over to Doyle.

"Assuming we can send back some of the wealth we procured, in addition to samples of the Mithril we recovered?" Doyle states, "I cannot see why command would be hesitant to provide more materials." He replies candidly.

"While they're hesitant to commit large amounts of resources with the campaign in Poland, if we can show our value, they'll commit more. The presence of Herr Speer will be very... illuminating, I think."

Gunther speaks up, "Speaking of illuminating-- You want to accompany us on the raid, Oberst?"
>>
>>25559285
Do we have any pressing matters to attend to tonight? It might be good to keep our combat skills sharp. Not gunther sharp mind you. Man keeps his blade sharpened to a monomolecular edge.
>>
>>25559285

A good officer knows how to delegate, and I need to try and wheedle every possible panzer, gun, and truck out of HQ so we can go for the next phase of our operation.

Besides, radio contact should be sufficient.
>>
>>25559285
"I think I shall Gunther, especially given the sensitive nature of this operation. You shall of course be leading the raid however, I will simply observe."
>>
>>25559285
"I completely trust your abilities to handle this exemplary, would the need arise you can of course contact me by radio. I would like to meet with the prisoners before interrogation, but the proper abduction will I leave to you."
>>

You have nothing immediately pressing, but you suspect that if you were to inspect the grounds, you'd find a number of things to address or subjects to bring up. There's also the stack of intelligence, military, and local reports, but those can be dealt with sooner or later.

>>25559341
If you wish, you could attempt to get in radio contact with HQ directly, speaking to them through a radio headset in order to press your case.

>>25559503
>>25559341
>>25559321
You are currently torn on the idea of going in person, but it does seem a tempting prospect to keep your combat skills honed. On the other hand, you know you're nowhere near Gunther's caliber. Then again, he's likely able to compensate for that fact...
>>
>>25559549

Delegate like a proper senior officer. This is Gunther's job, after all, we'd just get in the way.

Far better to spend our time getting the resources we need to continue to further the Reich's cause here.

>>
>>25559541
I agree it'd be interesting to observe the men in action and make sure nothing unexpected happens.

You remain torn on the topic.

"I trust your abilities to handle this in an exemplary manner." You tell Gunther, nodding to him. "If I am to accompany you, it would be in a purely observational role, though I would like to meet the prisoners before interrogation."

You pause in thought, looking over to the radio.

Gunther speaks up, "Speaking from experience, sir? I know what you're thinking." He tells you, "I doubt command will give us everything and the kitchen sink, even if they had the time to do so." He tells you, "But I think they'll give us just enough to take the fort. Something that'll cost us losses." He says bluntly, "Technology advantage or no, there's no way we're taking that fort easily. These locals have been at war for a long, long time, if I'm any judge."

Doyle interjects, "But if you do make an effort to personally appeal to command, denigrate yourself to those above you in station, you may be able to receive a bit more than what they'd normally provide. An unfortunate fact of affairs."
>>
>>25559549

Hello?

Bump
>>
>>25559857
Taking the Fort would probably cause significant losses, you're right. But if they don't have our men, we can simply shell them day and night until nothing is left.

As for the command situation, I think we should save a personal appeal for when we really need something ASAP. As we'll be sending back gold and mithril with the next gate opening, command should be pretty happy with us.
>>
>>25559857

We need to get all that we can.

We'll need to get up to 2 batteries of LeFHs, maybe see if we can get some K15s, as well as 3 more PzIVs, some IIs, and pioneers with flammerwerfers. We'll also need flamer-equipped half-tracks, a battery of mortartracks, and infantry.
>>
>>25559941
oh if only this was 1941 we could be using the Nebelwerfer 41.That would get those barbarisch out of that for in a second. Do we have any 88 cannons?
>>
>>25559857

>>
>>25560023

We don't want or need 88s, they're AA guns. We hve LeFHs and K15s. We might get 88s later, but right now we need artillery out the ass.
>>
>>25560070
Wasnt the 88 supposed to be able to be used as artillery, anti-tank gun, and AA all in one?
>>
>>25560095

Potentially, but it's primarily AA and was only found to be other stuff via accident or pressing need.
>>
>>25559682
I'll change my vote here.

Let Gunther handle the raid. We'll simply interrogate the prisoners when they arrive at the concentration camp at the Gate Fort. Siegfried should be on hand to begin the ritual after our questioning is complete as well.

These folks should get arrested and 'disappear' in the course of one night.
>>
>>25560095
the 88 with reduced charge loads was exceptionally good in the indirect artillery role, they were pretty much the dominant threat in normandy during the early days of the invasion
>>
>>25560308
You finally come to a decision after a few agonizing moments of silence, staring in deep thought at the plans.

"I'll put my efforts to buttering up command." You remark, looking over to Doyle, then to Gunther. "I trust you to have this well in hand. I want to interrogate the prisoners eventually once they arrive at our prison camp near the Gate. Siegfried," You state, looking over to the sorcerer, "Be ready to begin the ritual once our questioning is complete." You order the Thule Society representative.

"I'll leave the Keep immediately." Siegfried tells you, giving a curt bow. "I have no other pending matters, so I will take Hans and the incomplete construct with me." He tells you simply. "We will complete the device on-site."

Gunther looks between you and Doyle, "I'll get the men ready, in that case. We'll drill and get weapons in order from the armory." Gunther tells you, turning to leave as well. "I will radio my report once we have the prisoners in custody."

Doyle looks to you, now just the two of you alone in the command center. "Do you wish to go over the rest of the reports, or shall we get in direct contact with command? It may take some time to get all the proper orders done, so I'd recommend clearing off any last matters before getting in touch."
>>
>>25560483
"We might as well finish the rest of the reports before moving on."
>>
>>25560483
"Lets finish of those reports, we might learn of something that could aid us in our dealings with command!"
>>
>>25560562
>>25560533
You look back over the Intelligence reports from your officers:

>Gunther:
>Roman Legions were approximately 6,000 men strong. Legion Fort may have that many present as a garrison.
>Local masons have little initial insight on fortress makeup. Further questioning yielded information that most forts include secret passages for reinforcements in the case of siege, usually trapped.
>Local informant in Guard reports that units tend to function in formations of ten. Could have anywhere from 6,000-10,000 present in fortress.
>Knight Commander Beregen reports having assisted in addressing undead plague near Legion Fort Starbane.
>"Undead" apparently are apparently vampires, some form of semi-decomposed "zombies", and more variants of living persons reanimated into monsters.
>Jaeger scouts report that nearby villages are lightly defended, perhaps fifty to one hundred total militia members and a smattering of military personnel, all armed with basic spears, shields, and other crude weaponry. Four watchtowers at each site, armed with crossbows.

>Doyle:
>Local criminal activities appear organized through central gangster leader-figure named "Rhemult". Resides within Keep district, current location unknown.
>Dissident elements identified in two small noble houses, intent on assisting local outlaws and bandits in harassing supply route to and from portal facility.
>Reich propaganda campaign proceeds apace, posters receiving lukewarm reactions. New informants are more attracted to rumors of vast wealth or under promises of protection.
>Morale appears high, but current opinion amongst the men is in favor of continued expansion in light of recent victories.
>Such expansion may be problematic, however, as additional holdings may prove unwilling to be subsumed into the Reich political and governmental structure.
>>
>>25560605

Get local law enforcement hunting for Rhemult, if only to talk to him. We don't want criminals running in our city and we may be able to offer him limited employment as a low-level local spy for us in Swordhenge.

As well, see what intel we can get on the layout of the Fort.
>>
>>25560605
>Siegfried:
>Magical captives from ambush are reduced to three in number due to unexpected enchantments, seemingly intended towards preventing more complex forms of interrogation or preventing direct capture.
>Three remaining captives, freed of such enchantments, have revealed presence of fifty mid-strength mages supplementing Fort Starbane's troops. Troop numbers unknown, magical elements and regular field infantry intentionally segregated.
>Mages sworn to the Reich as auxiliaries possess weak-to-moderate loyalty under simple examination. Loyalty appears primarily driven by financial gain and search for knowledge.
>Distinct classification discovered: "Magi Arthur" in comparison to other mages. Magi appears to be term used to denote mages of exceptional power and talent, recognized by the Emperor personally. Regular 'mage' runs entire gamut of classifications, skills, talents, and arcane abilities.
>Additional monsters and magical creatures affirmed as existing. Compendium pending further answers from captives and new personnel.

You then go on to the Military Reports, looking over the well-typed documents, mildly pleased at the familiarity of the records. A callback to your time, so long ago, back in Berlin. You feel a pang of wistfulness.

>Gunther:
>Sentries have noted distant movements of creatures identified as "Goblins" and "Kobolds" six kilometers away from the major transit route. Creatures, according to local lore, appear to be engaged in inter-tribal conflict.
>Empire scouting party located two miles away from Riverside. Four mounted riders. Squad on-site was able to neutralize them undetected and with no casualties.
>Visiting merchants noted large troop movements along the area now being stated as the 'Eastern Front'. Our presence appears to have caused a division in attention from forces there.
>>
>>25560719
associating with criminals is not very good for our image. We should investigate, he might working with the empire against us from beneath the shadows!
>>
>>25560807
Arcane Updates:
>Siegfried (of course):
>Magic appears to be a force poorly understood even by local scholars. Magical energy appears to concentrate within all known materials and forces of life.
>An interesting exception is found in machinery and, notably, weaponry made from Earth "Prime" materials.
>Distress of locals seems to originate from virtue that our weaponry does not possess an inherent magical charge, making it difficult to influence directly, if not impossible.
>Exceptions appear to exist for materials such as quartz and marble brought over.
>Research pending into reasoning for this. I am, unfortunately, currently baffled at this development.
>Magic itself appears straightforward to instruct, when properly transcribed, but requires some form of prerequsite 'spark' to be utilized at this point in time.
>Research to overcome this limiting factor is ongoing, but promising.
>Magic appears to have few defining rules to it at this point in time. Its interaction with our materials is exotic, and not fully understood.
>When a bolt of magical lightning was conjured, intersecting the approximate area of a regular lightning rod, the magical bolt suffered only mild distortion, missing its target by a narrow margin. When the same rod was replaced with a depleted marble stone as its tip, the lightning bolt was directly absorbed into it and effectively grounded.
>Research pending.

You have a number of reports, but what in particular would you like to sift through them to look for? Further, under the Intelligence reports, your informers remark that there seems to have been a vast increase in ore purchases along local industry and the economy. It seems there's some crude speculation going on on the merits of your abundant metal weaponry, and metal prices have skyrocketed for the locals. Likewise, there also seems to be an increase in foot traffic, merchants coming for the mutual allure and interest in just what your city is quickly becoming. There's also a certain degree of hesitance to put too much into the city, however, as there's concern over the Empire's reprisal.

From what I see a lot of QMs use twitter now days and it is a pretty useful tool.
Now we just need to capture said Kobolds and goblins for said breeding program. While it might be a quick and easy way for sacrifices we might be able to "tame" some for different uses. Hell they might be useful as irregular troops to keep between us and our enemy since we are not a very melee focused society.
>>
>>25567687
We're breeding nitchmenslichen? Is this with approval from HQ?

Are we gonna use them Auxiliaries or gate fodder?
>>
>>25567708
Probably both or so I hope.
>>
>>25567708
If they breed at such a high rate as we hear why not both? Take those deemed to not be useful for sacrifice while using the others to bolster our own forces.

Though on a side note we could breed and train some for specific purposes other than being canon fodder, but that would have to wait until after we set up the breeding pens.
>>
Forgive me if this is already in another thread, but can we get a status report on our assets?

I was thinking take the old from the young, so as to destroy what every passes as a culture and history for these creatures. Once we have a "blank" breeding population we control everything they know, and can thus drown them in propaganda for whatever role we set for them
>>
>>25568436
Ooh great idea make them completely subservient to the Reich. After all they may be trash but that doesn't mean we can't recycle them into useful trash.
>>
>>25567801
I have a suspicion that weak-minded creatures such as kobolds and goblins would make for poor sacrifices. Our resources would be wasted on such a goal.

I think it's better we start a sort of breeding kennel. We can completely indoctrinate them within a generation, and judging from their size and manner, they are probably short-lived. They'd make useful cannon-fodder and be completely subservient. Imagine the natives' awe when they see that the will of the Reich subdues even the most savage beasts.
>>
>>25567411
It's just that I found this quest by complete accident and have never been on this website before. I find the premise fascinating and it would be far easier and more efficient if I could just monitor a twitter instead of reading people insult each-other.

We have neither the time nor the resources to be attempting a domestication program. The Reich is at the cusp of war with the Empire, in addition to its struggles at home.

If we were at peace with years to spend, it could be a worthwhile goal. We do not have that time. Anything such a program could cobble together in the span of a couple months would be too unreliable for usage in our strategic planning.

>You have a number of reports, but what in particular would you like to sift through them to look for?
One from our scientists on the progress of the linguistics program and if they've discovered anything of interest. One from our engineers on their plans regarding possible areas of expansion.

Hmm, interesting. Is there a local banking system? If not, then I think the creation of the Reich Bank could go a long way to attracting a lot of commerce from merchants after we've smashed the force they are sending to attack us, thereby demonstrating the strength of our leadership.

You currently debate the merits of instituting kennel programs for the goblins and kobolds, remembering the small creatures. As you ponder this, you're left with the knowledge that while such a program could be instituted, it may prove more effective to attempt to persuade these creatures to your cause willingly. They do possess at least some modicum of communication, if they're able to ally with the much larger Ogres that you saw.

Their status as sacrifices will have to be clarified with Siegfried, however, though you suspect that they will be poor in comparison to the full and rich life a human lives. Even non-German humans.

There is no centralized banking system in this area, but a number of smaller banks apparently exist. There is mention of an "Imperial Treasury", but you are unsure of how far that might stretch.

As far as linguistics is concerned, there is nothing unique to report now, though the decoding process is ongoing. The locals appear to speak a language with a few common roots to Germanic, as well as several others, but no clear connection has been made.

As for the engineers, are you looking for new locations to establish outposts, or new facilities to construct? Your own mind is capable of mustering forth both, of course.

"I want the engineering teams to work on ideas for what we need to bring things up to speed. This city will become an industrial heart for our operations, and I need to have them plan out exactly what will do that."

Doyle simply smiles, "Herr Speer ought to take great interest in that." He remarks, smiling faintly.

Open with a formalized greeting and declare our conquest of Redding with only a display of our Germanic might.

Actually a thought that occurred to me is that we need to get the R&D eggheads working on a formal study of the uses and properties of mythril. Imagine mythril tipped armor piercing tank rounds and bullets, able to penetrate even the toughest armor. Or mythril tank armor, how light and fast would a king tiger made of mythril be? Or equipping our soldiers with mythril body armor, able to survive direct body shots. It seems that since magic doesn't work on earth, (or until siegfried completes his studies back on earth maybe finding out different.) that our main export back would be mythril.

As far as supplies go we probably need some more long range weaponry appropriate for a siege. If there are any left I don't think command would mind letting go of maybe a dozen sFH 13. Or if we are very lucky and they like what we have done so far a few leFH 18.
>>
>>25578475
And once again, we need to find a way to perma-open The Gate for this to have any kind of an effect. Otherwise mithril will just turn into another wunderwaffen, flashy and neat, but ultimately too little too late to affect the war.

Though you have not had any personal experience with Mithril, from preliminary reports, your engineering background has given you a number of insights of potential uses. Not only would it be invaluable in terms of armor-piercing rounds and munitions, but its strange properties would enable some truly fantastic creations. Soldiers with body armor made from it would be neigh-unstoppable to small arms fire, not to mention the fact that tanks with heavier layers of this apparent miracle alloy would likely be able to deflect the rounds of even dedicated anti-tank weaponry. Structures fortified with mithril would be practically immune to bombing runs with most munitions.

To say that it would cause a shockwave in the war effort is an understatement.

"Reporting in from the forward operating base of Redding, located west of the emergence point identified as the 'Gate.' We have established a foothold for the Reich." You greet.

"Hail, Oberst." A familiar voice greets, but you can't exactly place it. "We are prepared to receive your report. Have you established an appropriate beachhead?"

"Jawohl, Command." You reply, "While we have taken some losses from local elements, we have taken control of one of the local cities, as well as a township. The government previously controlling them is known as the Empire, and--"

"We are aware of the Empire, Oberst, from previous reports." The voice cuts through, perhaps a bit sharply. "You have engaged their forces and defeated them soundly, yes?"

"We have identified a number of valuable resources. Exotic metals and great treasures, capable of potentially providing the Reich with an unparalleled edge in its engagements." You say, pushing towards your objective. "We have captured some of these resources, but with the losses we have taken, and the manpower needed to keep these areas secure, we find ourselves stretched thin."

There is a pause from the familiar voice on the other end, "You have a number of men, Oberst, that have already been dispatched." It remarks, "Men of great quality and conviction, whose lives have been spent by you to attain what you have so far. Perhaps you should be spending them better than you already have?"

The locals do not have the same technology as us, and we do not get a constant supply from the homeland."

A pause on the other end of the line, "It is the commander's duty to not only cut these losses, but to create a gain from those men's sacrifice." You press on, "Every death here has gained us something." You push.

The voice goes quiet for a moment longer before speaking, just as you're about to say something further. "I expect to see these results shortly, Oberst." The voice remarks, and your familiarity is at the tip of your tongue. "Make what demands you will for now, but you will be doing much more than taking just one city from now on. >>
>>25586245

At the very least, we'll need to bring ourselves up to a troop of Panzer IVs (Three more), another 2 troops of Panzer IIs to allow for a proper Panzerkompanie, along with at least 4 SdKfz 232s.

For artillery we'll need another 9 LeFH 18s and crews for them, and as well, a battery of K15s if we can get them.

For infantry and supply purposes, we'll need at least 3 companies of infantry, at least one mechanized, additional trucks, and tooling to produce our own ammunition on this side of the gate. We'll also need a squadron of Pioneers and associated combat engineering tools for bridging and demolitions.

Beyond that, any additional infantry forces would be useful, since we are critically short and we'll likely be fighting enemy forces between six and ten thousand strong in the next phase of our operations.

"We will need an abundance of actual manpower. In addition to commando squads, we will also need many more actual Wehrmacht infantry and engineering teams. Building materials are always in demand, but we have found a great usage for heavy artillery pieces, particularly the howitzer cannons."

Gas shells could always be produced by your on-site chemical factory in Redding, though obviously great care would need to be taken in transporting and storing them.

Thorton has two squads of your Jaegers currently en route to investigate it, as a potential avenue of invasion for Fort Starbane.

Malloy has not been investigated, though you could amend the orders for the men heading to Thorton to also scout out that area.

I have also heard reports that you are working upon a construct-- some strange magical creation of the locals. Complete it." The voice orders you, "If we have a new weapon we can utilize against the Polish and their accursed allies, then we will employ every means we have to procure that weapon."

Do you have anything further you wish to bring up or mention to Command?
>>
>>25587080

nope we are good, I say we time skip until our forces come through unless we have any pressing matters to attend to
>>
>>25587080

Depending on the time the gate will be open, we will primarily have need of ammunition supplies, artillery especially, and additional vehicles, both cargo, trucks, and armored fighting vehicles.

Another company or two of infantry would also be good to have on standby, we'll be taking a lot of territory soon.
>>
>>25586946
we should talk about it with albert when he arrives.

>>25587080
Tell them that for the moment the use of magic back on earth is an unknown however seigfried will be testing its use when the gate opens next.

Also it might be a good idea to know who we were talking to. maybe fib that the signal is not quite clear enough to know who we are talking to.

>>25587080
Also Obersturmbannführer how go the talks with Rikugun Chūsa? We have high hopes for the IJA expidition.
>>
>>25587156
Like was stated in his thread NO ONE knows about that quest. Im really hoping we dont EVER meet the Japanese one or better yet, it is in another world.
>>
>>25587206

No, see, we'll get rolled by the Katamari that was built in Meta Quest.

Along with the Japs.
>>
>>25587206
thats not what I meant. Oversturm was talking to and helping Chusa with the quest. I was just inquiring how it was going
>>
>>25587156
>>25587251
>Quite well. Though it may be that his quest doesn't take place in the same setting. Could also be that his quest's locale is right next door to your own territory. Who knows? As it is, his own setting is progressing quite nicely in my opinion.

>>25587138
Supply trucks have become somewhat of a staple for reinforcements, but a focus on ammunition will be placed in further communiques to coordinate this upcoming Gate opening.

>>25587156
>>25587116
"We will be dispatching our Thule Society liaison back to test a number of theories on the nature of magic back in our own world. With any luck, we will have an entire domain of new weaponry for the Reich to employ."
>>
>>25587080
>>25587365

Reading the communications, high command seems to assume that we have this world in the bag.

Well I suppose that's because they haven't had a first hand view of magic and the destructive force that it can unleash.

None-the-less, we will need to step up our efforts. After flattening fort starbane, we should move to take Swordhenge.

I wonder if its too late to see if we can get any Metallurgists. The next construction project we should look into is laying own the infrastructure for the industrial scale mining and processing of Mithril.

The only other concern are the Nautilus shipyards. We don't have any ships that could counter a naval attack.

Anyway, there isn't really anything we could mention to high command that I can think of.
>>
>>25587712

These are MEDIEVAL ships.

A fucking 2cm FlaK 38 or a quad-mount would tear them to shreds.
>>
>>25587897

What I mean is that we don't really have eyes on the river.

Since it's decided that we are going to flatten fort starbane instead of taking it.
>>
>>25587897
>
we have a werbelwind flakpanzer already. That enough can tear any wooden structure to shreds
>>
>>25587955
>Since it's decided that we are going to flatten fort starbane instead of taking it.
As in literally flatten to the last stone or just kill everyone inside and take it over?
Will it be a surprise attack or will we attempt another persuasion to surrender?
Prisoners?
>>
>>25588080
with the ammount of forces there they will not surrender. better to open up with a heavy barrage of artillery fire then mop up.
>>
>>25588080

They intentionally took prisoners to later torture and execute.

Our arrival announcement will be a 2 hour barrage from our guns followed by an armored assault.
>>
>>25588283
>They intentionally took prisoners to later torture and execute.
Hmmm, this is bad. Who knows what volumes of information a single on of our men have already given them.
>>
>>25587712
Your science staff thus far has a wide range of experience, but a dedicated metallurgist (or team of them) could be brought over as well. Your geologists have a fair degree of experience with metallurgy, however.

You could attempt to see about building some small boats for naval duties to go upriver, but that would be up to you in terms of constructing the small wharf and its associated qualities.

>>25588283
>>25588185
>>25587955
>>25587712
>>25588503
As for plans for the fortress, you have a number of options you could pursue, including attempting to dispatch your Commando team on a rescue mission, albeit obviously one with a high degree of risk. If siege is your choice, however, you are likely best waiting for these reinforcements.

With that being said, shall you end the conversation with Command, and proceed with any other business you may have in mind?

>It may be best to think of an itinerary for the rest of the day, of things you may wish to review, plan, or discuss with others.
>I will be returning in an hour or two after dinner.
>>
>>25588559
We ought to get some snipers and Commando's to surround the fortress and tell us of any movements. Shoot anything that looks like a messenger trying to leave the base with information from the interrogations (if it's not already too late) or warn us of troop movements.

No one enters, no one leaves.
>>
>>25588559

Well the only thing I can think of doing is getting someone to find local knowledge base on mythril usage.

Finding out how the locals mine, refine and forge mythril will be productive towards our own research.

Although since the mines are closer to Swordhenge. I guess the libraries are going to be located there.
>>
>>25588776
>>25589108
You elect to end the conversation on that note.

"This concludes my report." You say, "I will update you as the situation develops, Command. Over and out." You finish, putting the headset and handset down, looking back to Doyle, who has patiently observed.

"I want to find out how the locals mine, refine, and forge mithril." You state, to which Doyle only smiles.

"I have already had the knowledge gathered for when we gain control of the associated mines. I suspect that will require us to conquer Swordhenge first, however." He informs you, "Considering its status as a nexus of power and potential enemy attacks."

You contemplate the merits of having snipers and special forces lay siege to the Fort, harrying messengers that might carry potential information regarding your own forces, but it's clear even to you that such forces would likely be hunted down by the defenders once the tactic was realized. A valid option, but one with its own risks if not properly executed.

Laying the handset down, you now have an abundance of time in which to carry out any last-minute strategic decisions before the evening rolls around. Already, Gunther is likely preparing his men to arrest the associated families.

Considering that it's almost two o'clock already, a late lunch would likely be in order.
>>
>>25590674

Question, we do have those stuka parts to complete that golem right?
>>
>>25590816
You currently have them placed in your orders for the incoming reinforcements as a priority, so they'll be one of the first things through the Gate.
>>
>>25590674
>You contemplate the merits of having snipers and special forces lay siege to the Fort, harrying messengers that might carry potential information regarding your own forces, but it's clear even to you that such forces would likely be hunted down by the defenders once the tactic was realized. A valid option, but one with its own risks if not properly executed.
Though there's truth in this, I guess it boils down to who is king of the forest, our commando's or their rangers or whoever they have.

In any event, we could use this tactic to lure them out and kill a good portion of them inititially. How nice would it be if we managed to pull out a column of these guys and mow them down with a well placed machine gun nest?
>>
>>25590843
>That 'twas I.

>>25590880
You could arrange for just such a tactic to be employed if you wish, though your Commando squad is off with Gunther, as well a couple Wehrmacht squads that will be enlisted in securing the traitorous aristocratic families. They could be pulled aside for you to enact this course of action, however.
>>
>>25590880
Well, assuming we have the manpower and we can consider our men in the fort expendable (i'd rather not, but you know) here's an idea.

Get some special forces to surround the castle and snipe messengers or anyone that tries to escape. Have a heavy force follow up behind.
If they move out with their army, have the snipers pull back while picking them off skirmishes until the main force catches up and we annihilate them.

Or if the rats stay in, surround the castle with the troops and dig in with machine gun nests, barbed wire, and potentially trenches. Then start picking off anyone or anything the pops their head out of the walls.
>>
>>25590979
But we don't have the manpower, we'd be divided between smoking out the nobles or sieging the fort.

We need to decide if the nobles escaping or if the risk messengers from the fort escaping are a bigger threat.
>>
>>25591017
Whatever info they got from torturing our guys is more dangerous than whatever the nobles could say (since it wouldn't be that different than what's already probably known about us). They might already know about our numbers, how our guns work, what makes us tic. We'll lose the pretense of magic and awe.

Focus on that fort.
>>
>>25590880
No need to place our men in danger like this. We shall simply wait for our new artillery peices to arrive and then impress Herr Speer with a week-long firework show. One which will see Fort Starbane reduced to the ground.

Speaking of artillery, here is a complete list of what we ordered from command:
>Thule Society replacement for Siegfried
>A battery of either 15cm sFH 18's or 15cm sFH 13s (depending on how nice command is), with a batch of timed/proximity fused shells.
>A troop of 3 Panzer IVs
>Two troops of 3 Panzer IIs
>4 SdKfz 232s with the associated crew
>Squad of flamethrower-equipped Pioneers (riding in above SdKfzs)
>Squad of SS Commandos (also riding in above)
>Two companies of Wehrmacht infantry
>6 Opel Blitz light trucks carrying food, ammunition and medical supplies.
>Squadron of 6 Ju 87B-2s (for parts)
>1 Mechanized Company of Wehrmacht Soldiers riding in Sd.Kfz. 251s

That should be everything.

>>25586373
The requisition of chemical weapons would probably have to be approved by the Furher himself.

But beyond that, I'd rather not have chemical shells around gathering dust here, its just another variable we have to account for. If we need them, we can always sacrifice the prisoners at the Gate labour camp and get some via instant reinforcement.
>>
>>25591143
>No need to place our men in danger like this. We shall simply wait for our new artillery peices to arrive and then impress Herr Speer with a week-long firework show
They'd surrender by the end of the day no doubt, if there'd be any left. These castles aren't designed to defend against strikes from the sky, much less explosive shells.

But the big risk is letting info escape to the empire such as >>25591094.

Think, beyond snipers, if we can move up a SdKfz with a decent machine gun, preferably behind some kind of tree line if possible, we can effectively seal them in by mowing down anyone that tries to leave the castle gates.
>>
>>25591218
Hmm, that's a good point you're right.

According to the map, the fort is bordered by rivers (2 small and 1 large) on basically all sides, forming a natural barrier of sorts. Even beyond this though, I agree with you that we'll have to cordon off the Fort and then sweep it for survivors after that artillery barrage is complete.

Just to be safe, we should probably send more than just a single SdKfz. I'm thinking probably two or three entire companies; just to be safe. Local intel did say that the Fort was riddled with secret tunnels after all, there could be multiple points of escape.

>>25590674
>Laying the handset down, you now have an abundance of time in which to carry out any last-minute strategic decisions before the evening rolls around.

It seems like our evening will revolve around planning this Fort assault with our military commanders.

If you desire, you could move your snipers from their sentry positions in the city to launch such a harrying effort on Fort Starbane, but it should be noted that your last excursion too far out was met with an apparent ambush, according to the Jaegers. A small group such as that might face much less of a risk, but the risk does remain, however.

We should probably work on that before Speer shows up, actually. Lord knows we don't want him showing up and getting the impression we're wasting the Reich's time courting ladies. Do the courting before he shows up and it'll just be something that's happening, no?
>>
>>25591759
He's gonna inspect us right?
We ought to plan a nice little inspectors welcome, a band playing as his staffcar arrives this side of the gate or Redding, with the traditional inspection march.

Maybe not as a mount, but to present the Fuhrer with a dragon as a pet would be nice.

So yer a curt introduction and get straight to work should be best.

>Advancing to evening.

You begin to work on strategy not only with your conquest of Fort Starbane, but also your eventual reception of Albert Speer. The lanterns flick on in time, and you find yourself buried deep in your maps and charts as, elsewhere, a small convoy of half-tracks are dispatched to two separate residences, two separate noble houses that are about to be entirely disappeared in the course of a single night.

Gunther, standing atop the back of the vehicle, has a downright feral look on his face as he beams at the distant houses. The locals, having grown accustom to the presence of such strange metal beasts, duck aside as the treads tear across the pavement and kick cobblestones in all directions.

He made no noise beyond what the vehicle had, their approach surely noted already for the sheer volume of it. As such, he let out a wicked laugh as the armored vehicle plowed directly through the front gate of the estate, the two men standing on watch near the front door flinging themselves aside as the armored prow forced the gate open. The headlamps scoured the courtyard even as the treads tore apart the carefully tended grass.

There was shouting in the local language, words being hurriedly exchanged. Gunther simply gave another laugh as he hurled himself over the edge of the vehicle, the other commandos in his transport joining him. A pair of trucks rolled up outside of the house, the squads inside dismounting as they followed in his wake. Clutching his machine gun close, he swept the muzzle over the courtyard, honing in on the house. He could see eyes peering out at them. He could smell and taste the fear that perforated the air, the fear that was quickly turning to danger and anger. They had been betrayed, but these folks would not go down lightly.
>>
>>25593765

A good idea honestly. We need to keep up our upgrading.
>>
>>25593767
He could hear the broken shouting of the Wehrmacht riflemen as they pointed their guns in the faces of the gate guards, placing them under arrest. A lone gunshot as one shouted something back, clearly trying to resist. Gunther paid them no mind.

His boots seemed to make the ground quake in cohesion with the rumbling engines as he stormed towards the front door. He didn't need eyes, his instincts screamed at him that there were men behind and above the recessed entrance. A barbican. His gun whipped upright as he strode towards the front door, clutching it in his bulging biceps as he emptied a three-second burst into the ceiling over the doorway.

The screams of the house guards as their feet were shredded was rich indeed, the droplets of blood staining his uniform as he reached the front door. His lips peeled back in a smile.

"By order of the Oberst, you are all under arrest! Submit or die!" He demanded, watching the rest of his squad stack up around him. Trenchguns, carbines, and more. The future Commando potentials had been taken with him, the Wehrmacht soldiers chosen specifically for their inclinations towards violence and extreme savagery.

He heard nothing in reply, but his ears told him of the breathing on the other side of the door, told him of the beating hearts he would be able to rip out, after so long of only indulging in nightly raids upon local criminal dens. He was tired of restraining himself.

He leveled his gun at the doorway, gently feeding the ammunition into the savage weapon as it bucked against his grip. Hot lead perforated the door, the brickwork, and the men-at-arms braced for his intrusion. He could smell their blood as it was sent misting into the air, and he felt nothing but satisfaction when the door fell back, its hinges severed by his continuous stream of rounds. He heard screaming, gurgling, and gasping initiated all at once.
>>
>>25594108
He watched as a pair of Wehrmacht infantrymen surged in on each side of the doorway, their rifles sweeping the corridors. Unfortunately, their approach was quickly stopped, crossbow bolts skewering one of the men clean through the eye, his lifeless body dropping to the ground. The other three returned fire, the rest of the squad pouring through, but they were in out in the open of a very large lobby seemingly designed to stop attackers. The winding stairwell was host to a group of four men, two behind lightly glowing tower shields, the other two ducking out of cover of their comrades to fire off crossbow bolts with dizzying accuracy.

Two more men went down, one of them killed outright, as Gunther advanced inside. A quick burst from his machine gun confirmed his suspicions: The chain of bullets pockmarking the metal of the tower shield, but only serving to push the wielders back.

To the right and left were two more formations of the same setup, the nobles apparently having used their time to prepare well. A crossbow bolt whizzed towards Gunther's head, the massive commando weaving his head aside as he kept up his chain of fire.

"Grenades!" He called out, letting his gun rest on its sling as he grabbed one of the stick grenades strapped to his chest. He quickly primed and lobbed it up the stairwell, watching with satisfaction as the formation exploded. Another grenade went off to the corridor on his right, turning one of the shields and its bearer into a fine mist, the fragments peppering the walls.

More men piled in behind him as he began to advance towards the stairwell. Several floors up, a lone aristocrat stood, an aging man that had long since awaited his death. He stared at the pearl-inlaid handle of his ancestral sword, the runeblade pulsing with the power of generations of bearers. An unbroken lineage back to the age of kings.
>>
>>25593767
Oh shit, is it Gunther quest time?
>>
>>25594120
He looked over to the distant shadows, to the long, beaked mask of the man perched atop a chair, sitting on it like a cat... or, more aptly, like a hound. The smoky glass of his beaked mask obscured his eyes, and his leather bodysuit was complimented by the curves and subtle bulges of the armor sewn within.

"The Emperor shall keep his promise?" He asked the man.

"The Emperor always abides by his word." The stranger replied, their voice oddly monotone, almost genderless. "Your daughter shall be freed of Imperial custody and a new Estate bequeathed to her."

"Good." The aging noble remarked, clutching his blade in one hand now, assuming a classic warrior's pose. The fighting was nearing closer, but he dared not use the escape tunnel within his Estate. He had chosen his side, and he would die for it.

"Use the passage here. It shall lead you to the streets. The invaders have sent their strongest to fight me-- their leader shall be unprotected." He said, looking back towards where the stranger had been perched. There was only an empty chair.

>Back at Redding Keep.

You rub at your eyes as you stare down at the maps laid before you. The various officers all speak to one another, a small party in and of itself, with a flurry of discussions. This must be how the leaders of nations feel, herding armies of cats.

Your thoughts are interrupted as you sit at your desk, situated within the throne room. The other officers continue their bickering on, currently in the midst of a discussion about the merits of putting a minefield around Redding's perimeter wall to deter siege weaponry. An impractical solution, but one they're still discussing at great length.
>>
>>25594120

That better be some uber magical shields, because there's no way normal shields would resist rifle bullets.
>>
>>25594186
Your thoughts are interrupted with a strange, foreign thought: Something is approaching. Something magical, and something dangerous. You see nothing, but you find the piece of paper you're writing on, a little pad you had been doodling upon as the conversation eventually made its way out the door, covered with a note written in your own handwriting.

>REAPER'S HAND

You heard that somewhere before, but where?
>>
>>25594280
Call for guards. Full squad to surrond us. Don't let him touch us.

>>25594108

>>25594186
Da fuck Gunther!

We ordered a strategic raid, not an armed urban assault. Silence was to be the operative word, these two families and their retainers were meant to simply disappear into the night, leaving their neighbors wondering what happened. Now its looking like we won't have any sacrifices at all. Our subordinate has done too far and has directly contradicted our standing orders, he shall be punished for this.

>>25594386
Second this. Place the the Command Post into lockdown, but keep the rest of the castle at normal alert status; we don't won't the whole town awake (if they aren't already) to witness our botched raid.
>>
>>25594719
Preferably not too extreme a punishment and delegation to some manner of assault squad. He may not be able to lead professional commando raids anymore, but he'll make a good attack dog. Hopefully his successor will have a more level head.
>>
>>25594719
Maybe give him speech and hard time but end it with him being our official raiding party leader.

We might want to send him on that rescue mission after this.
>>
>>25595196

Yeah this. If we do anything we should make him head of the attack dogs instead of commandos. I honestly don't think he would mind this.
>>
>>25595196
Try to make it sound less like a demotion and more like a re-evaluation, the benefits of a highly trained loyal attack dog are high.
>>
>>25594719
Not only that, but we wanted them ALIVE.

Call for Siegfried. NOW.

You remember the torrent of thoughts from when you first passed through the Gate, the word coming into your mind. You lock your jaw as you abruptly stand up, slamming your hands on the desk.

"Quiet!" You abruptly boom, looking around the command post. "Get a squad of Wehrmacht up here! I want this room in lockdown." You abruptly ramble off, everyone pausing as they look at you as if you grew a second head.

The sensation grows stronger as you look down at the words, then up, a bit of panic creeping into your voice. "What are you all standing there for? Well? Get a security detail up here!" You repeat, gesturing pointedly at the doors of the throne room.

As you gesture to the side door, your eyes go wide as you spot something out of the corner of your eye.

You may not have time for that security detail as you see the throne behind your desk abruptly shift. Its facets crack as it seems poised to fall apart.

You're not sure what it is, but part of you already knows what's about to happen. "GET DOWN!" You abruptly shout, your glance backwards evolving into an abrupt tuck-and-roll. Military men to the last, the officers, for the most part, duck at your shout of urgency.

Which is what saves most of them, as the throne and part of the floor under it flashes in a brilliant display of red before exploding. Fragments scythe like shrapnel across the ceiling and over the room, your roll behind your heavy wooden desk shielding you from the fragments of floor and chair.

You can't help but feel a small, instantaneous mote of pride for avoiding taking the throne for yourself as a chair of power. Unfortunately, that note of pride ends as you see the rest of your officers. Of the dozen assembled, you can see the remains of two of them, hit by the explosion. One is right next to you, half of his face taken off by a chunk of exploded rock, his brains oozing onto your pant legs. The other, a Hauptman, is laying on his back on the central table, the paper skewer from the top of your desk driven clean through his heart. The rest appear only lightly wounded, but are dazed. Of the adjutants, two are dead, the remainder slumped over their stations or across the ground in various states of injury. The radio station has cracked and broken glass everywhere, as well as being peppered with fragments.

And dazed does you no good, as you see a blur abruptly materialize atop your desk, perching on it like a bird of prey. A hooked mask, looking like the mask of a plague doctor that you saw in a Berlin museum so long ago, stares across the room. You can't see the eyes or the upper half of the face, but you see the glint of mithril on his lower legs and forearms, visible through the seams in his leather bodysuit. A bandolier of large knives are wrapped around his torso, and a myriad of colored vials sit at his waist.
>>
>>25597372
You hear someone shout, "ASSASSIN!"

That someone abruptly ends up with one of the daggers in his neck, one of the Wehrmacht guards stationed outside of the command post. Having moved inside, his only reward was an oversized knife through the neck, arterial blood spraying over his uniform as his rifle dropped from his limp hands. His compatriot takes aim, and you see the assassin move with blinding speed.

You keep your eyes scanning for something better as you reach for your sidearm, drawing the pistol into your right hand. You're not going to die here tonight!

Others seem to have similar lines of thought as another officer draws his own sidearm in seeming unison with yourself, the two Luger P08s blasting away at the man's back. You raise your aim slightly, hoping for a lucky shot to the head, as the other door guard sweeps his rifle's butt at the assassin's face.

Said assassin pivots on his knees, his body ducking low as his right leg sweeps up in a roundhouse kick that seems to defy gravity. Your bullets whir through the air, peppering the assassin from behind even as the other guard goes down. You watch blood shoot from his torso as your rounds clip his shoulders, one of them actually scoring a lucky hit along the side of his neck, blood pouring rich and thick from his wounds.

Five rounds down, three left. Your compatriot empties the last of his magazine as the others only now begin to regain their wits, but even for his neck injury, the assassin just completes his spinning kick with a sickening crunch, his foot caving in the temple of the other door guard on impact. His body pirouettes, and you can see blood, black blood, staining the leather around his neck and upper torso, a few holes showing where a lucky round managed to pierce clean through his torso. How he's still upright is a question you can't quite answer or figure out right now.

What you can figure out is how to get upright, having used the recoil of your gun to get yourself squatting against your desk. You see the hole in the floor behind you, as well as a trench gun-- carried by one of the officers-- flung down next to the radio console.

You feel your lungs burn as you run for the trench gun, the assassin reaching for something on his belt. You don't see what it is, but you feel relieved to hear the familiar, welcome shouts of a squad of men coming up to assist.

Shouts that are cut short as the assassin flings the vial behind him into the stairwell. You hear glass break, and the insidious hissing of gasses, the foul smell of death and decay reaching your nostrils near-instantly, such is its potency.

You grab the pump gun by its strap, stumbling slightly as you hear the first of the screams from the stairwell. Agonized screams. You don't have time to contemplate that, however, as you yank the weapon into your grasp.

Your opponent seems to know the danger you now pose, however, as he reaches for another large knife, one that looks more like a chef's knife than something you'd use in a fight. He promptly rushes right for you, ducking low, that curved mask almost touching the floor with its beak, his eyes obscured behind opaque glass.

You yank the shotgun up into your grasp, your heart hammering, your brain screaming with thoughts so fast that it actually seems to hurt. The assassin seems indifferent to this, however, as he yanks the arm with the knife back, lunging into the air as you fire the shotgun from your hip. The gun bucks in your grasp as the assassin is caught mid-air, his whole body coiling inwards to crash into the radio console. Sparks fly in all directions as you attempt to scrabble away, raising the shotgun to fire a second shot.

You don't even notice until you click the trigger the thin knife jammed into the muzzle, somehow materializing there.

You also don't notice, until you feel something wet against your chest, the growing pool of blood from the knife buried in your stomach. The assassin, moving quicker than your eyes could track, seems to materialize from the air. His opaque lenses reveal nothing human, nor does his blood. His face is pressed against your own as your shotgun abruptly explodes in your grasp. Your hand burns as the barrel erupts in fire and shards, the force of the explosion kicking the gun out of your grasp, the strap slapping your arm as the explosion takes effect.

Whether by sheer providence or an oversight by your foe, he is placed between you and the detonating shotgun, the weapon's full force striking him in the back and side. His body careens away as the thick knife remains buried in your stomach. Your hands shake as you watch the assassin, his mask cracked in numerous places, duck back and away. The screams outside go abruptly quiet.
>>

The assassin's mask begins to fall aside, the left half of it abruptly falling down, revealing the pale, scar-stitched head underneath, totally devoid of hair. This man isn't even human: His only visible eye apparently replaced with some sort of opaque green glass. You abruptly shout as all the agonizing emotions seem to funnel their way through you, your limb snapping perfectly straight as you pull the trigger, propelling another round forward. You watch as it strikes the assassin, only now beginning to move again, square in the throat.

His entire body convulses as the bullet gives him an abrupt tracheotomy, your voice coming out in a guttural shout. You feel something shift in your grasp, the P08 seeming to shake of its own volition.

The second shot rings out, striking the assassin square in the chest. Though he is still wearing the vest, you feel both shock and satisfaction as the round seems to not only penetrate the breastplate, but also with enough force to knock the assassin clean off his feet, sending him straight into a file cabinet. He reaches for another vial on his person, but you stare down the sights.

Your anger clarifies into something cool, black, and sharp within your grasp, personified by the pistol in your hands. You take aim at his head, not even needing to really look down the barrel, knowing your shot will be true.

You fire again, one last time, the gun unmoving in your firm grasp. You don't see a bullet emerge, but instead a streak of pure black lightning, the assassin's eyes going wide as his head is driven into the file cabinet, the pistol in your hands glowing white hot with heat. The killer's body jerks violently as his head is put at a 90 degree angle with the rest of his body, his mask crumbling away as his body goes limp. You hear the clatter of boots as a Wehrmacht squad in full chemical warfare kit storm inside, rifles splayed in all directions.

It's only then that you recognize the pistol in your hands, warped with heat, is burning the flesh of your hand. You drop it to the ground, the knife in your belly still stuck there, then to the wounded and dying around you, as well as the dead.

You look to the men, a wild look in your eyes, a look that seems entirely inhuman in the reflections given by the broken glass scattered around the room. The dangling lights, damaged and flickering, dance morbidly as you yell at the men.

"Get Dr. Klein and Siegfried in here now!" You boom, "And get these bodies moved. I want that dissected." You say, indicating the assassin's buried body. The soldiers don't even pause in enacting your orders, your presence alone seemingly terrifying enough.

"Some sort of gas weapon killed one of the squads." One of the soldiers informs you, as a medic rushes over to tend to the knife in your stomach. You recline back against your desk, setting your burnt and cut-up hands on your lap even as the blood begins to pool.

"Siegfried is already gone." One of the wounded officers pipes up, only now beginning to recover his wits. "Left a couple hours ago for the Gate facility on your orders."

You scowl, looking at the hole where the assassin emerged. You stare daggers at one of the riflemen looking at you. "GIVE ME A GRENADE!" You shout.

The man recoils away from you as you affix him with a hateful stare, but he cooperates, even as the medic protests you using your hands. You stain the rod of the grenade with your blood even as you prime it, promptly flinging it down the dark pit the assassin emerged from. The ensuing detonation kicks smoke up in your face, but you hear nothing more, letting the medic resume her tending to your injuries.

"Get a squad down there!" You demand, "Get me Gunther and--"

"Radio's down, sir." One of the riflemen remarks, looking to the damaged radio array. "It'll take us at least a day or two to get it back in working order, with so many senior staff at the Gate."

You simply shake with anger, even as a pair of men begin to set up rappel lines, all of them donned in gas masks now as they prepare to scour the hidden entrance.
>>
>>25598927
Calm down.
We can't lose composure, we don't want to freak out the men. Dispatch our orders by men on foot or in vehicles. Gunther is still on his mission. By the time it takes for us to get word to him and get him back here it won't do much good.
Besides, he is probably dealing with the ones responsible right now anyway.

If anything I think this recent event makes getting Gunther back here even more urgent. After this attack I am quite alright with sending the attack dog to go rescue the troops in starbane with an added objective of cause as much damage as possible while escaping.
>>
>>25598927
As an added note, the enemies brash use of chemical weapons would almost guarantee we could get the gas shells we wanted.

I can't think of anything that would be more effective against a primitive army than launching a bunch of those into their camps at night....
>>
>>25599048

>>25599048
Or the fort?

Have them all wake up dead, no need to even shell the place.
>>
>>25599048
Bah, I want to shell the place into oblivion.

We don't need the Fort, we're not going to occupy it and the fact that the natives will be able to see it burning late into the night will act as effective propaganda.

Don't fuck with the Reich.
