You are Captain Numeon Smith of the Knights Inductor chapter of space marines, and the commanding officer of the Aprior sector Joint Task Force. You are currently deployed to the icy world of Volkgarod, where you have been battling the orkish hordes there for several months.

Your techpriest Kalec has finally located the underground lair of the orkish horde, but it is too deep for an orbital bombardment to destroy. Joined by your allies amongst the Ultramarines, you are preparing now to launch your strike against the heart of the orkish plague infecting Volkgarod.

Your task force stands as follows.

SpecOps: ASIS task force, Eldar Ranger squad.

Air Support: Valkyrie Avenger dropships, Shrike air-space fighters.

Heavy Armor: Fenris main battle tanks, precision rocket artillery.

Infantry Support: Sisters of Battle, Battlesuit Team.

Special Units: Confessor, Tau Commander.

Old threads here.

Before the content starts, I am going to be talking for a few minutes about the standard kit of the average Aprior guardsman, to build the setting a little and let players come in.
>>
>>25491992

The Aprior pattern lasgun has been described before, but I shall do so again now.

A refinement on the standard lasgun design, the Aprior pattern lasgun incorporates several important design features which set it apart from most such weapons. Firstly, a variable power selector allows the weapon's output to be modified by the user, varying from nonlethal scorches, to standard lethal shots, to powerful overcharged shots.

Another addition is the universal rail system, allowing the easy modification of the weapon with the inclusion of various devices on the top, bottom, and side rails.

Some common additions are various sights and scopes on the top rail, grenade launchers and shotguns on the bottom rails, and laser sights on barrel side rails. Another popular addition is a small ruggedized data slate on the side of the weapon, which can serve as a map, command aid, and advanced communication device.
>>
>>25491992
You know what I'd like? A shoulder-mounted lasgun running off of our suit's power supply, and which we can aim using our suit's HUD.
Or would that draw too much power if used in conjunction with our StormLas?
>>
>>25492068

That's not the one we're producing for local guard, is it? OR if it is, is it as rugged as standard imperial design?
>>
>>25492068

Aprior society places a high value on sentient life, and as such the armor of their guardsmen is the genuine best that the sector can afford to field.

The product of further development on standard flak armor. The limb armor remains much unchanged in protective quality or material, though it does incorporate strategically placed slats of solid armor. The chest piece however has been replaced with a more rugged hard armor piece, similar to full carapace armor, offering much better protection to the vital organs.

The armor also incorporates powerful vox gear and networked data links, allowing commanders to keep tabs on their units in the field by monitoring their data sets, rather than waiting for direct reports.

Each soldier is also issued with eye gear, which serves a dual purpose. Obviously, this is to protect the eyes from shrapnel or dust, but it also ties into the Aprior dedication to battlefield data networks.

Taking the form of wraparound glasses, larger goggles, or full face masks, each form of eye gear incorporates a hololithic heads up display, feeding the soldier battlefield data such as current objectives, the location and position of squad mates, a smart linked reticule for their current weapon, and their current ammunition reserves.

These glasses also serve to modulate incoming light, both protecting from blinding flashes, and compensating for low or no light situations.
>>
>>25492169
Local guard version is based off of the Aprior pattern, but has wooden furniture rather than synthetic and lacks the bells and whistles, but the central mechanism is basically the same.

>>25492142

Possible, but that would mean that you would aim it with your eyes, meaning that you would be firing your primary weapon at something you're not looking at.

You would be better off attaching a secondary weapon to your primary weapons rail system.

What if we used a servitor targeting system, such as a servo-skull?
>>
>>25492249
This seems unnecessarily complicated.
>>
>>25492249

In that case, why not just have murder-servitors?
>>
>>25492274
Perhaps.
I was going for an independently targeting shoulder-mounted lasgun to further make a Knight into a weapons platform.
>>
>>25492222

Of course, citizen, but first, may I see your ID papers? Praise the Emperor!

>>25492213

Hmm... while it's nice to have a more efficient gun, we should be mindful of where we are. Volksgarod gun should be tough as a kalashnikov, not sophisticated but difficult to maintain like whatever the good citizens of Merika are using.
>>
>>25492295
Gun-servitors? We need the Battle Magos before we can make them.
I was thinking of this as something that our current AdMech support might be able to cobble together.
>>
>>25492194

The standard Aprior guard squad is meant to be a general purpose fighting force able to deal with most situations without requiring the addition of a specialty unit. As such they carry a wide variety of weapons suited to the various tasks they may face.

A standard Aprior guard squad is 15 individuals. Of these, two are designated marksmen, armed with the marklas. Two are support troopers armed with the SAW, and between one and four carry Aprior plasma guns, depending on the level of resistance they face.

>>25492249

Doable, but you would need the attention of a Magos or techmarine rather than a simple techpriest, and it would take time to perform the needed modification.

>>25492222
I thought we left the Kommandos back in Aprior?

Are we ready to begin?

>>25492304
The Aprior patterns actual internal workings are quite reliable, it's the fancy external gubbins like hololithic sights and data slates that have a habit of breaking if you hit them with too many rocks.

Are we ready to begin?
>>
>>25492302
That might be an option on the marauder or crusader power armors, we don't know. Side note, we should trade designs of our less heretical innovations to the Ultrasmurfs in return for Artificer power armor, since we have so few of those.
>>
>>25492330
I think we've got 3 players now?
I suppose we could begin.
>>
>>25492330

Also, I would like to state how major military assets like the Fenris tanks and the rocket artillery work.

Rather than sending them to specific locations, it can be assumed that any decently sized JTF guard deployment has these assets on location, unless it is impossible for them to be there, or they were ordered not to go.
>>
>>25492330

Everybody check in as you arrive so we know how many players are here.

Last discussed plan was to bomb shut all but two tunnel entrances and then take one while the Ultras take the other, tanks in first then marines then everyone else in order of general badassery.
>>
>>25492385
Sounds about right.
>>
>>25492385
The Sisters were coming with the Knights, but I think we were divided on whether the battlesuits should stay on the Flame, or if it would be safe for them to deploy to the surface to support the Guard holding the entrance used by the Knights.
>>
>>25492417

What are we doing with the battlesuits?

Any other issues to resolve or are we ready to begin the operation?
>>
>>25492385

sounds good enough.

I'd keep battlesuits in reserve should a crisis arise on the surface, but it would be better to not have to deploy them. We're not the only ones with eye in the sky.
>>
>>25492507
Keep them up on the Flame but ready for orbital drop. They might be seen by the Ultramarines' Strike Cruiser, and we should keep them in reserve.
>>
>>25492507

Also, I have to ask. Why the heck do the same two people still lurk in ambush every day to downvote the threads the instant they hit the archive? Is this really that bad in everyone elses eyes? Or am I missing something?

It's kind of sad really.
>>
>>25492542
>>25492519

Right, battlesuits and Vael are retiring to the Midnight Flame to stand by on deep strike, commencing operation now.
>>
>>25491992

The better part of the next day is spent preparing your forces for the coming assault on the subterranean orkish stronghold, recalling Knights and Ultramarines, armored units and battle sister squads from across Volkgarod to take part in the great assault on the ork lair.

Adonis has been with you in the command center for most of this time, overseeing the redeployment of his forces in preparation for the assault as well.

Finally your forces are prepared, arrayed in vast columns streaming through the icy tundra towards the target tunnels, tanks leading the way.

You encounter some orks along your path, or rather you encounter the smashed remains that your spearhead of Fenris tanks leaves behind.

After a few hours of riding you reach the target location some distance from the tunnel mouths. You pop the hatch on your Rhino and gaze outward from atop the giant APC, off to your right Adonis does the same inside his cordon of Predators.

You check the orbital recon data, it seems that everything is in place for your final assault. You activate your vox.

"Captain Adonis, are you prepared?"

"Indeed, my Ultramarines are ready to carry the Emperor's swift justice to this heart of xeno filth."

Well that was clear enough, and you switch channels.

"This is Smith to all units, the operation is a go, I repeat operation Skyfall is a go."

TBC
>>
>>25492776

A few moments after you speak, you look up to see a constellation of falling stars hurtling towards the ground. The shells strike in a vast pattern many miles across, hammering into their subterranean targets like meteors.

You watch the reports on your slate, watching as the tunnels are destroyed one by one, and several shells put over the main base for good measure. Great plumes of snow and pulverized rock fill the sky for as far as you can see, some blast waves so close that they reach you as a stiff wind.
The scream of the Shrikes passes overhead, and you see Hatchet flight passing overhead, dropping precision munitions at the tunnel mouth ahead to clear your entrance to the subterranean ork hold.

"Forwards!" You vox, and Adonis adds a rousing "For the Emperor!" As your two armored spearheads dive directly into the flaming mouth of the tunnels, luminators flashing on to light your path through the dark passage.

TBC
>>
>>25492904

The tunnel is fairly wide for a natural formation, three vehicles driving abreast, but the size of your advance makes it feel quite small, the line of armor stretching back behind you for as far as you can see. Up ahead is the constant flashing and booming of the Fenris guns, but so far you have yet to slow down and the tankers have not reported any major problems, so they must be finding the surprised orks fairly easy prey.

Your advance continues unimpeded for about half an hour, and your slate tells you that you should be fairly deep, dropping off past the point of thermal scan range at least.

Then the lead element of your convoy voxes back to you.

"Captain, I am seeing what appears to be a widening in the tunnel, it appears to be opening into some kind of large chamber, please advise."

Actions?
>>
>>25493046
Check with the ultrasmurfs, don't want to get to far ahead of the advance
>>
>>25493046
Slow down the advance so that we can catch up.
Form a firing line.

Vox Captain Adonis, see if they've reached the same situation, and coordinate a simultaneous advance.
>>
>>25493129

"Captain Adonis, my column is reporting what appears to be a widening in the tunnel ahead, we are possibly reaching a chamber of some kind, are you seeing anything like this on your end?"

"Our scout column is reporting something along those lines, at what distance did your techpriest say we should reach the central nexus?"

"He did not know." You reply, "We have been unable to get scans this deep into the complex."

"Damn, though it seems we have reached at least the outskirts of the primary complex. How do you plan to advance your forces?"
>>
>>25493253

we should strike simultaneously
>>
>>25493253
Have the APC's link up with the tanks, and then have both Knight and Ultramarine columns advance simultaneously.
>>
>>25493309
>>25493272

"Armored spearhead," You say, "Tanks first followed by the APCs, move in fast and secure the area, crush any opposition."

You take hold of the pintle mounted storm bolter.

"My plan as well," voxes Adonis, "Strike before the enemy has a chance to react to our presence."

"All units, advance!"

The Fenris tanks spit gravel from their treads as they launch forwards, your APCs following close behind, the sisters Rhinos and the chimeras behind you.

You experience a strange dizziness when you burst out of the small tunnel into a much wider cavern, the dark ceiling stretching high above you. The armored column fans out to maximize firing patterns, and you look ahead to see a cluster of orkish buildings erected in the passage ahead, as well as a spread of orkish vehicles charging towards you.

It seems that your presence has finally elicited a response.

Roll to engage the enemy, roll out of 100, low is good, best of three.

"Engage targets at will!" You vox, "Maintain formation and break straight through!"

The armored spearhead of the column forms up and rushes ahead, the APCs struggling to keep up with the lightening advance.

The thunder of the guns echoes around the chamber, making it seems though the battle is much larger than it actually is, though it is large enough.

To your left an ork truck is reduced to a greasy fireball by a Fenris, and off to the far right you can see an island of moving muzzle flashes, Adonis and his company on the prowl.

A team of orkish bikers penetrate the tank line and rush you, but a few precision bursts from the storm bolter chew them apart in fairly short order, and you move on unimpeded.

The crude orkish war machines are now match for Aprior's finest it seems, and you break through the vehicle skirmish line barely slowed down.

Ahead of you rises the towers of the ork forts, now a little singed. One crumples in half when it loses a good chunk of structure to a Fenris shot, another twists and crumples sideways, half melted by a prolonged burst from a chimera multilaser.

Ahead of you looms a scrap metal wall stretching between two towers, the driver voxing you.

"Captain, going around this wall could expose our flanks to the enemy."

"Then don't bother." You respond.

The Rhino surges forward as you pour fire into the fortification ahead of you, finally the forward edge of the hurtling APC slamming through the crude fort. The scrap metal and wood pulls at you as you break through, but you maintain your balance.

Turning back, you see the great structure crumple and fall.

TBC
>>
>>25493755

Apart from a few scattered remnants, it seems that the ork forces have been crushed under a solid wall of tank treads, unprepared for the sheer brute force of the assault which faced them.

Apart from some expended ammunition and needing a fresh coat of paint, your force is none the worse for wear.

Ahead of you yawns a vast open cavern, side passages splitting off like snake runs in the rock.

How do you proceed?
>>
>>25493833
Send out three strong in offense and have the rest of our forces secure and dig in in the cavern.
>>
>>25493833
We'll take one half of the cavern, the Ultramarines the other.
Do any of our Knights or Sisters have jumppacks to get a view of the cavern from a higher elevation?

Have one Knight squad assist the Guard force coming in behind us to dig in and cover our flanks, and watch those side passages, as the rest advance carefully.
>>
>>25493854
three strong?

Who do you mean?
>>
>>25493875
No jump packs at the time, but there is really nowhere up to go, most everything is on the same general plane here.
>>
>>25493876
Three strong columns.
>>
>>25493833

What does our topside surveillance say? Or are we too deep in already? Are those passages towards the tunnels we sealed?
>>
>>25492346
>I think we've got 3 players now?

Fourth checkin in!

I'm not adverse to trading with the ultrasmurfs - what can they offer us, though? Vehicles, perhaps?
>>
>>25493971
Main passages from the surface are sealed, but you are too deep to tell where these side passages go from surface scanning.

They could lead nowhere, or they cold go off to other ork positions trapped in the blocked tunnels, though every inch of the tunnels observable from the surface have been pulverized.

Leave on Knight squad to dig in with the guard whilst the other marines and sisters press on ahead?

Confirm plan of action.
>>
>>25494006

Probable items of trade could include power weapons, thunderfire canons or other gear.

Adonis is unlikely to trade major artifacts for new guns, no matter how shiny, but weapons for weapons is more believable.
>>
>>25494008

I hate splitting up. I suppose we could leave some of our forces behind to guard, but we might need every gun when we arrive to the heart of the waagh.

What we could do is booby trap at least some, or almost all of the passages. Except the ones we'll be taking forward, naturally. Send out some scouts beforehand, perhaps.
>>
>>25494008
Yes, 1 squad of Knights to reinforce the Guard on our flanks, advancing forward with other elements.

I wish we could recon ahead with a Guard rover or some Guard on motorbikes.
>>
>>25494086
Guard bikes were an option at JTF creation, but they were not chosen by the original players.

I say this a lot...
>>
>>25494006
according to one of the pieces of writefaggotry
>At current rates of use, we will have no more suits of Artificer armor in about three centuries.
So presumably we'd be interested in some of those.
>>
>>25493755

"Slow down everyone, those side passages could be ambush positions, Delta squad hang back and assist the guardsmen, set traps and explosives in the side passages to forestall any flanking attacks.

Everyone else form into three advance spearheads, maintain close enough distance to support each other and move together, Adonis take the right, JTF take the center and left, I'm in the center point."

Your armored units shift around in the cavern and form up, advancing slowly and cautiously down the cavern towards whatever awaits you, the guardsmen checking in at intervals to report their mine laying progress.

TBC
>>
>>25494258
Your slow cautious advance proceeds unabated for some time, until once again you see the crude glimmering of orkish 'civilization' shining from around a corner in the passage.

Inching your Rhino around the corner, you see sprawled before you what can only be the central nexus of the orkish WAAAAGH on Volkgarod, a teeming ork city awash with light and frantic movement.

It lays deep below you, built on the bottom and up the walls of a truly massive chamber, if natural this must be a geological marvel, a bowl whose diameter could be measured in miles, with the orkish city at the very bottom clawing higher towards the dark ceiling.

Directly before you stands another orkish facility, it appears to be a bridge control from what you can see, and it's needed. The path abruptly stops ahead of you, ending in a sudden jagged cliff where the stone broke away.

It seems that the orks have taken advantage of a natural choke point, or perhaps made one themselves, and built a drawbridge on the far side, nestled mostly flush with the ice and rock tunnel which leads down into their stronghold.

TBC
>>
>>25494452

"Captain Smith, it seems we have reached an impasse."

"Indeed" You say, looking for some path across.

"Can your scouts find any method of crossing the gap?"

"Give us a few moments."

The line is dead for a few minutes.

"Captain, my scouts have reported that there is a tunnel which should lead around the side of the gap and into the ork gatehouse, but it is too small for the vehicles.

I plan to lead a strike through this tunnel and open the gate, would you do me the honor of accompanying this strike Captain? The orks shall surely fold before us both."
>>
>>25494452
Is the bridge the only way to get into position to shell the city?
Knowing Ork psychology, wouldn't they be more likely to lower the bridge in order to get to our forces and krump them in a foight?
>>
>>25494544

It appears to be the only way to get down there. The city is outside the range of your guns, and you would only do minimal damage to them at this range.

The orks may not know of your location yet, or they may be under orders to keep the gate shut for some other reason.
>>
>>25494504

Oh we'll definitely want to make use out of that narrow tunnel alright, and make our fight there a stuff of legend.

Are orks aware of our position now, though? Can we begin pelting the city from this... ledge, or whatever it is we are on? Are we exposed to retaliation?
>>
>>25494604

The tunnel you are on has turned into a trail along the side of the bowl, your left is open to the air and the city lies below you, out of range.

Your vehicles would not survive the descent down the steep slope.
>>
>>25494635

I worry that there may be some larger guns here we aren't equipped to handle in the heart of orkdom on Volks.

>>
>>25494670
There is nowhere for an assault bridge to go, the ork bridge is the only way across and it is sealed tight.

Your ranger team is with you, disguised as guardsmen with their rifles wrapped in camouflage netting to disguise their shape.

Waiting for more supplies would take time, and remember basically all the JTF not bust with holding the line or fighting off other orks is here, there are not many other groups you can call.

>>25494684
No such vehicles have yet been spotted, though there have been some large tanks.

Moving to assist Adonis as plan of action.
>>
>>25494670

Hmm... snipers... should we risk calling on our Elf friends as well? They might come here, bag some headshots and get lost before the Emperor's Finest notice.

>>25494684

Emperor alone knows what they've brought with them on the trash can that they landed here. Which reminds me, did we bring along some sort of nuke to leave in the middle of Ork settlement when we get there?

"This is Smith to all callsigns, I am to accompany Captain Adonis through a side tunnel to open the gate for our forces to advance. Once we do so, do not wait for us, flood through and hit the orks where it hurts, come down on them in a river of steel and crush their hold into the dust."

You change frequencies.

"It would be my honor to accompany you Captain."

You meet up with Adonis near the tunnel, the entrance is festooned with orkish sigils, you think they mean something along the line of 'frak off' though the intricacies may be lost in translation.

Adonis awaits you with his command squad, and you accompany with a similar sized fireteam. Brother Lykos accompanies you, and you see that Knight Linnaeus has followed Adonis, his Avenger minigun waiting expectantly.

Adonis' armor gleams even in this dim light, holy vestments reflecting the orkish torches as pure gold. You by contrast seem to shift in and out of existence in the shadows.

What weapons have you brought with you?
>>
>>25494892

I'm guessing we'll be seeing some close combat, so it's Hammerzeit! and those SMG's ... what were they called, SAW?
>>
>>25494892

>>
>>25494892
I'm sticking with Stormlas and bolter (marksman variant if possible), bolter pistol, and shock maul.
>>
>>25494978
Agreed. We'll go with bolter, plasma and shock maul.
>>
>>25494955
The SAW is a Squad Automatic Weapon, a large belt fed machine gun modified to be held like a big rifle.

Your bolter also can fire flechette rounds.

You could also take a riot shield and your maul if you wish for CQB

>>25494978
Well there is the Avenger minigun, which does not so much fire a stream of large bullets as it does a steel jacketed laser.
>>
>>25495016

I was planning to introduce the DMB Designated Marksman Bolter, slower rate of fire but more accurate at long range. Not a sniper but longer range than a normal bolter.
>>
>>25495041
Is this question of loadout going to be locked in for the rest of this operation, or just for this fight to take the bridge controls?
>>
>>25495020
I am okay with any loadouot knowing that we have some high rate heavy hitting weapons to mow down orks
>>
>>25495096

That depends on when you are able to make it back to the convoy to restock weapons.

You can have two primary weapons, one pistol and your maul.

Riot shield counts as a primary weapon.
>>
>>25495118

So, SAW, DMB, plasma pistol, maul?
>>
Rolled 90

>>25495158
Drop the pistol for riot shield.
I am of the opinion that we should not be the one bearing the heavy support weapons, as we will realistically likely be knee deep in orks, but opinion seems to be against me on that, so I will let it go.
>>
>>25495200
Shield is a primary, you cannot swap it for the pistol, and you'll probably need the pistol for shooting.
>>
>>25495118
The only problem with the Avenger is ammo, and the need to reload.
I'm also concerned with fighting alongside the Ultramarines. Friendly fire may be an issue as they charge into melee. Finally, we need to take the control room intact.

Primaries: Stormlas, riot shield
Bolter pistol loaded with flèchette.
>>
>>25495221
I second this loadout.
>>
>>25495221

Bolt pistol or plasma pistol? Are there any downsides for the latter, if we have the laser for longer distances?
>>
>>25495264
Bolt with flechettes will shred in close quarters, the plasma is less effective against hordes with the slower rate of fire, but more powerful against a single large target.
>>
>>25495221
Any objections to this?
>>
>>25495320
I have none
>>
>>25495339

Having swapped your bolter for a riot shield, you heft the reassuring mass of ceramite beside you as you walk over to Adonis and his company.

"Interesting choice of weapons, you Knights certainly are an odd chapter."

"We try." You say, tightening on the shield.

Walking towards the tunnel mouth, Adonis draws a bolt pistol and power sword, his retinue drawing their various weapons as well, one individual disdaining ranged weapons in favor of a pair of crackling swords.

The two Captains take point, you holding your shield before you, your methodical tread matching the pace of Adonis' purposeful strides. You begin to hear what sounds like orkish speech in the tunnel ahead.

"Oi, whys we jus' sittin' here when deres humies in da tunnel ta foight?"

You hear the sound of on ork smacking another.

"Cus 'da Boss says so ya git! He's got a plan to deal wif dose humies, you'll see."

Adonis readies his sword and quickens his pace, but you hold out your arm to forestall him, to his consternation.

There are an unknown number of orks in the next room, probably guarding the door, state actions and roll as needed.

"Hold your ground, marines! Wait till you see the whites of their eyes in their ugly faces!"
"Fire! Blunt their charge"
"Counter-CHARGE. Poke the pig!"
"Now, fall back! Armored company, we're leading them to you - provide covering fire!"

You activate your auspex to try and get a better idea of how many enemies are in the next room, but you cannot entirely tell their exact disposition.

You are fairly certain that at least six orks are in the next room, surely no more than a dozen.

"We shall draw them out." You say, "And attack when they are disorganized.

Adonis frowns a bit, but sees the sense in your idea, and hunkers down in a corner.

You raise your pistol and strike the butt against your shield, the dull ringing echoing throughout the chamber.

"Oi, wots dat? Fingzog, go take a look."

You hear muttered curses as the ork shuffles closer to you, finally coming around the corner. His eyes light up with panic and rage before his head ceases to exist. You waver your smoking bolt pistol towards the tunnel mouth.

"Forwards! Into the breach!"

You storm out into the room, Adonis and his team hot on your heels, as you fire into the surprised gate guards. These orks seem fairly well armored for their kind, thick plates of crude metal bolted together, and it resists even the razor darts your pistol launches, though they do succumb to close range shots.

"OI!" Shouts one "Dere's HUMIES in da base! Close da' gate ya stupid git!"

You see an ork diving for a lever on the wall, and though you cut him down, his severed arm still holds onto the lever and brings it down.

You hear a muffled 'krump' behind you, and you can already tell the tunnel behind you has been collapsed.

TBC
>>
>>25495673

Adonis and his retinue surge past you, the Captain himself carving apart a trio of orks rushing to join the fight, but the sheer number of greenskins pouring into the antechamber means that some get past them.

Your pistol clicks empty as you gun down another ork, so you holster it and switch to your maul, swinging furiously at the onrushing mass of greenskins boiling into the room like so many disturbed ants.

You crush the skull of the first one, break the arms of the second, but there are simply too many. You feel one greenskin cling onto your shield, another parrying your maul as you fight to knock them off.

Then you see him, an ork a bit bigger than all the rest, rushing towards you brandishing his axe, grinning in savage glee.

You shake free your maul, but too late. The greenskin grabs your armor by the neck guard and raises his axe, bringing it smashing down onto your helmet. One hit, two hits, three. By the fifth you are on the floor, your HUD flickering and sparking, the right half dead altogether.

You see the ork raise his axe again.

TBC
>>
>>25495745

"GET OFF OF HIM!"

Out of your left visor, you blearily see an armored form tackle the ork. You recognize it as Knight Linnaeus, his Avenger spinning angrily. The ork roars in anger and swings at him, but Linnaeus parries the blow with the side of his avenger, holding down the trigger to chew off the orks arm.

The ork charges, but the Knight is ready. Linnaeus plants the smoking, spinning barrels on the orks chest and levers him up, mashing the firing studs again.

The ork is chewed apart in a shower of gore and viscera, and Linnaeus turns the shrieking minigun on the rest of the room, sweeping through the orks one group at a time.

Finally, with one last swing of his sword, Adonis finishes the last ork in the room. Only then does he notice you, and rushes over, Linnaeus already at your side, easing off your battered helm.

"Captain! Captain are you all right?"

You feel something running down your face and you realize it's blood, though it coagulates almost immediately. Your right eye is still a little blurry, and you feel like you've been hit by a land raider, but you feel more or less intact.

Response?

>>25495745
Well, never died in a quest I took part in.
It was fun, bros, looks like the Smurfs get the glory, while we die ignobly to the common nob.
>>
>>25495822
You're not dead, just battered. It takes more than that to finish a marine, but you will feel that for a while.
>>
>>25495805
"Slight damage, and I am sure that the techpriests shall have a fit when we return, but I am still able to fight.
"My thanks, Brother."

How badly is our helmet and HUD? Can we reboot it to regain some functions?
>>
>>25495868

Fuzzy and damaged but there, the casing is more or less intact, minus some major dents, but the insides have been shaken around a bit.

The machine spirit is a bit grumpy right now, and is making his anger known by trying to give you a headache with a wobbly HUD that sometimes shuts off for a few moments.
>>
>>25495805

"I've seen better days. I suppose we should've gone with captain Adonis's plan here. But this is no time for rest! Emperor's work is not yet done."
>>
>>25495805

"I have seen better days brother." You grunt as Linnaeus helps you to your feet.

"But I can still fight, though I am sure the techpriest shall have a fit when I return in this armor."

Linnaeus is obviously still concerned, but he keeps it to himself as he takes his position in front of you, reloading his Avenger.

Adonis looks over your battered gear with some worry.

"Are you sure you are prepared to continue?"

"Yes!" You say a little harshly, "A Knight is not deterred so easily, and the path back is blocked in any event, let us complete our mission here, the company is waiting."

That seems to satisfy him at least and you begin to walk up the stairs, Linnaeus doggedly refusing to be moved from his spot right in front of you, and after a while you stop trying.

It seems that most of the orks in the facility had rushed down into the lower room with you, and you move through empty passages and barracks, or whatever those pits were, and finally approach what should be the control room, overlooking the bridge itself.

You think you can hear orks speaking in the next room, how do you act?
>>
>>25495974
Listen in, first. We should try to discern what they are planning.

You gently push Linnaeus aside. He protests but you give him your 'Captain' look and he lets you by.

You sneak out into the chamber ahead, moving with nary a whisper despite your armored bulk. You see a team of orks looking out a large window, observing the gap below. You allow yourself a small bit of satisfaction when you notice that the bright light here, combined with the dark tunnel, make the JTF force invisible from this distance.

You listen in, it seems that the orks are having a disagreement.

"But 'da humies are in 'da tunnels!" Says one, "Hows we supposed ta win wif dem charging right in here!"

His larger compatriot smacks him and pushes him away.

"Don't you know anyfing? Da Boss has a plan, once his mekboys get da rest of those glowy gubbins working then wez'll have all da power we needs to crush da humies and make a real WAAAAAGHH!!!"

Cowed by his overseer's agressiveness, the smaller ork remains silent.

I have to go walk the dog right now, I will be back in about 20 minutes to finish this, no more rolls needed for this scene.

Sounds like we should throw in a krak/smoke grenade combo and then have us and Linnaeus hose down the Orks with Stormlas and Avenger.

Unless this is the control room. Then we should go in with a flashbang and close combat with riot shield and shock maul.
>>
>>25496148
I return.

Content in a moment.
>>
>>25496148

The other orks seem very much persuaded by this argument, and begin howling their assent, the shrieking of their warcry bouncing around the little command room.

In all the commotion, they fail to notice the flashbang clink to the ground at their feet.

The blast sends the orks reeling, blinded and disorganized, blinking the tears from their eyes just in time to see a somewhat annoyed Knight rushing them, shield outstretched and crackling maul raised high.

In a few seconds of angered barks, sickening crunches and comical yelps it is all over, with the control center firmly in Marine hands.

Open the bridge now before something else goes wrong?
>>
>>25496485

>>25496485
Yes. And vox the others what's happening.

Also vox to the columns that they should be on the lookout for anything that looks like a powersource as a priority target.
>>
>>25496485

You search over the control panel for a moment, before deciding on the large red lever. True to form, the gate slams down with all the subtlety of orkish construction, the din reverberating throughout the cavern for a few seconds.

You see the first elements of the JTF advance rolling over the bridge now, rushing off towards the waiting ork hold at the base of the cavern.

"Be advised." You vox, "The orks here spoke of some form of glowing technology, perhaps a power source of some kind. Be on watch for a priority target."

The path behind you is blocked, but there is a path which leads down towards the city itself, and with nowhere else to go you elect to follow it to link up with the rest of your advance.

TBC
>>
>>25496585

You form up with the rest of the group, Knights forming an unofficial guard around you as you continue onwards. Up ahead you can see the exit from the structure, a wide path leading down to the floor of the ramp where your forces wait, though the treacherous slope of rock and ice does not look like it would support vehicles.

Adonis strides past you onto the exit ramp, pistol and sword held aloft, prepared for any threats which might await you, but he seems to find nothing.

The Ultramarines follow their captain down the ramp, and your Knights do the same. Leaving the building, you feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end, it is a feeling you have only had a few times in your life, and it has never been good.

You hear a low growling behind you an you spin about, but see only the open doorway.

TBC
>>
>>25496652

Then you turn your gaze upwards, looking over the door you just exited, and see another opening, almost like a balcony. Gleaming in the darkness is a pair of red eyes.

A heavy metal tromping fills your ears as the owner of the eyes leaps from the shadows and towards you, bringing his several friends in tow, he's a big ork, larger than any you have faced before, though not as monstrous as a warboss.

"You'll pay fer' dis humie!" the nob howls as he charges. Out of the corner of your eye you see Adonis turn and rush to your aid.

The nob swings at you with a great metal claw, but you parry it upon your shield and strike back with your maul, driving a hard blow into the creature's face.

It reels and screams in rage and lashes out at you again, scrabbling for purchase against your shield before you drive it back again.

Adonis and his team, as well as your Knights, lay into the orks which followed the nob down to you, holding them at bay, Adonis dueling with five axe swinging barbarians single handed.

You and the great nob trade each other blow for blow, but the beast seems to be weakening. Each blow you strike pulps flesh, cracks bone, while its strikes are turned aside by hard shield and ceramite.

Finally, you swing low and smash out its knee, driving the ork to the ground, where you raise your maul high and drive it down into the orks face. With a resounding crack the ork drops to the ground and ceases to move.

Turning your pistol to the rest of the orks, you begin to cut them apart. With the sudden loss of their nob the rabble has lost its integrity, and seems panicked and confused. They fall in fairly short order.

TBC
>>
>>25496929

Turning from the field of orkish dead, you hear a slight groan, the ork nob stirring slightly, though it seems to lack the strength to rise.

Adonis sneers and walks over, his bloodied sword ready.

"And thus to all who would attack the Emperor's realm." He says, "The only mercy you deserve is death."

The nob coughs up blood and gives a broken laugh.

"You first humie."

You rush forwards and grab Adonis by the shoulder, flinging him aside. By the time you reach him, the stickbombs are already rolling onto the floor with little clinking sounds. The nob explodes, spare ammunition and explosives detonating at once, the concussion sending you flying across the room, slamming into the ice that makes up the far wall, which cracks under the impact.

Looking down, you see yourself relatively undamaged, the nob's body having shielded you from the shrapnel, leaving only the shockwave to throw you.

Across from you, Adonis is dusting himself off, looking to you gratefully.

That's when you hear the ice crack.

>That's when you hear the ice crack
Oh this is gonna suck!
>>
>>25497034

Weakened by the impact, and the heat of your steaming armor, the ice under your left boot gives way, and you sink to the knee. The ice under your other boot gives way soon after, and you drop down, hands scrabbling for purchase as your feet drop down into an ice shaft.

"Smith!" Adonis yells, diving over to you, taking your hand and pulling.

"Don't!" You shout, but too late. Adonis' forward boot breaks through the lip of ice over the shaft. The Ultramarines reach out to grab their Captain, but to no avail, as he tips forward and tumbles after you into the dark maw of the ice chute.

You twist and turn, are battered and tossed, slammed into the walls of the chute and dropped through darkness. All is chaos and movement, ice walls and outcrops rushing past you.

After a few seconds, though it seems much longer, you stop thrashing about so much and straighten out a little. Thankfully the chute is not vertical, but rather a twisting winding downwards path through the ice and rock, more like an overly aggressive waterside than an elevator shaft like you feared.

After what feels like a brief eternity, you are jettisoned from the end of the chute into a dark chamber, landing with a thud on the icy floor.

A few seconds later, a loud clanking is heard, rising to a crescendo as a tangled blue and gold mess clatters out onto the floor behind you, cursing and fumbling about on the floor like a fish.

Actions?

Also, how many people are still here?

Help Adonis
>>
>>25497203

You rise to a crouch and slip another magazine into your pistol, scanning the room. All you see is blackness. You frown, your night vision in the helmet should be compensating.

Evidently, the machine spirit has been spooked by the trip down the tunnel, and you reassure it with a few gentle pats on your helmet, which seems to work, the room shifting into focus.

The path you came down opens behind you, the chamber you are in appears to have only one other exit, which yawns before you, utterly black and inscrutable.

Satisfied that you are in no immediate danger, you walk over and offer a hand to Adonis.

"Adonis, are you all right?"

He looks up at you, squinting a bit in the lack of light, and takes your hand. You pull him up, looking at the Ultramarine Captain. His finery is a bit more disheveled than it was before, his cape torn in places and his armor smudged and scratched, but he seems in one piece.

"I'm alright Smith, thank you." He turns and looks up the chute which bore you here, seeing chunks of ice tumbling out.

"Caved in." He spits, before tapping his ear. "And no vox either, can't get through all the rock and ice on top of us."

You look over to the passage ahead. "Only one way forward."

How do you proceed?
>>
>>25497340
Proceed with riot shield and pistol forward; we don't know how close contact could be, or in what numbers. We'll take point.
>>
>>25497420
this works.
>>
>>25497420

"I have point." You say, crouching behind your shield as you advance, pistol aimed down the darkened passage.

The night vision in your helmet flickers occasionally, but seems to stay on well enough for you to find your way, picking your way through the dark passages and twisting crevices.

After a while your path starts to become easier to follow, the passage widening out, then becoming almost uniform, though still covered in ice at all sides. You hold up your hand to stop, and Adonis crouches beside you.

"What do you see?" He asks, peering into the darkness.

You don't see anything specific, but something feels, wrong. The passage up til now twisted and turned as a natural passage in the ice would, but now it stretches off ahead of you in a straight line, disappearing into the darkness ahead.

"This place feels, unnatural." You say. But there is nothing else for it, you continue on.

"Be on guard." You add, and Adonis tightens his grip on his sword, poised to throw the blade into glowing life at a moments notice.

TBC
>>
>>25497518

As you go, the passage seems to become darker and darker, despite you increasing the power to your vision systems. Even though you know the passage is almost completely uniform now, some part of your mind insists that it is pressing down upon you like a great weight.

You must admit that you feel slightly uneasy, as if you have missed a step on a staircase but have yet to fall.

"This place puts me ill at ease." Adonis says, holding his sword close, "There is a heaviness in the air, the very warmth of my blood feels stolen away."

You nod, running a hand along the dark ice.

You pause, taking a closer look. You think you might see something under the ice, but you cannot tell for certain through the night vision system.

Do you wish to activate your lights to get a better look?

>>
>>25497637
You kindle your helmet luminators and light up the darkened ice before you. Indeed, the ice is dark, almost black, with only wisps of white and grey over its dark core.

You run your gauntlet over the ice again and wipe it clean, grinding a bit off to see what lies beneath. It's stone, black stone, as dark as a starless night sky. You tap the wall, the thin ice breaking away easily allowing you to run your hand over the real wall beneath its icy covering.

It's not an ice tunnel, it's a hallway, frozen over with ages of neglect. Beneath the ice the wall is made of perfectly black stone, cast seamlessly along the wall for as far as you can see, seeming to soak up the light itself.

You turn and face down the hall again, snapping up your pistol, blood racing in your ears.

But all about your there is nothing but the silence of the tomb.

>Tomb World

You look to Adonis.

"A tomb, I believe we are in a Necron tomb, and if the orks are meddling with things which ought to remain dead..."

You let the sentence hang.

"Then we have little time to loose." Answers Adonis.

The two of you turn and advance further into the darkened hall, the shadows lengthening, and seeming to swallow you whole.
