( I apologize for not continuing yesterday, turns out I've got pneumonia and I've been holed up in my house drugged up on anti-biotics)> Previous threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/25364736/>http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/25380844/You are TK-392, a Stormtrooper in the Imperial army. It’s only been a week since you finished bootcamp and you’ve already seen your fair share of action on your first assignment; bar fights, terrorizing citizens, and engaging rebels along the outskirts of the city you’ve been sent to. Unfortunately it turns out the Rebel’s base was nothing more than a small shack filled with explosives. Out of sheer luck you managed to shield both yourself and your commanding officer before the shack exploded and sent both of you flying back in a hellish whirlwind of fire and twisted metal.Your memories come rushing through in blurry shapes; it’s like you’re watching your life through a holo-vid with too much static. The endless, constant stream of sights and sounds long past is too much for your senses to handle and you wake up. You're on the ground next to the transport a few yards away from the smoking crater that used to be the Rebel’s “base”. You see bits and pieces of smoldering armor and the body parts of your fellow squad mates strewn around the area. You try to lift yourself up but have a hard time doing so, your muscles screaming in protest of your movements. You only have the energy to sit up and rest your head on the side of your transport. Your head is still foggy, you try to stay conscious by thinking about what you should do next.Do you:A.Look for any surviving squad mates close to the crater.B.Try to find your COC.Look for a comm to call for evacD.Get in the transport and drive back to the city
>>25420118Crawl around looking for CO, she shouldn't be too far off. Also, call for evac.
>>25420172Also, considering that the initial 'ambush' by rebel troops was probably just a distraction, the real rebel attack is forthcoming real soon. Better get the hell out of here.
>>25420118B.Try to find your COC.Look for a comm to call for evacWe know that she was shielded by us, so she's got a good chance of being alive. While looking for her we can also look for a commlink.
>>25420118B.Try to find your COSo we can give her the D.
>>25420172I second this
>>25420218I think that field rape is against our training.
Man, fuck Imperial policy, I want to get a cheap droid to open doors for us from now on. Command might be fine with sending us in to die, but I'd rather spend a few credits and live.
>>25420264Seconded, I fucking hate astromech droids anyway so we could just as well get one as a mine detector.
>>25420256Always consensual. My point is that saving her increases our chance for consensual D considerably.
>>25420320I second this as well
>>25420320Fraternization is against military rules.
>>25420118Grab your rifle and fire indiscriminately into all directions while yelling about bantha-humping scum.
>>25420308What about those boxy two-legged ones? Maybe we could get a protocol droid on the cheap?
>>25420476They're kinda gay, though.
>>25420476A Gonk?Power droids. Nobody hates power droids.
>>25420172>>25420211>>25420218>>25420240>>25420381Your thoughts immediately return to your CO's safety, she has to be around the area somewhere and you hope she's alive. You slowly stand up, using the side of the transport to support yourself. You take one step forward and your sides erupt in searing pain; you can feel your ribs moving around with a life of their own. You stop in your tracks trying to fight the urge to pass out.D20 for Strength check
>>25420531>They're kinda gay,That's why we're having them take point, and open possibly booby-trapped doors and walk through minefields.

Rolled 8>>25420579low roll inc
>>25420594>>25420648Woo yeah fight through that shit
>>25420579Do we have bacta tanks in the transport? Get one and pop it, that should do the trick. Get on comms and call for evac while you're at it.
>>25420594>>25420648>>25420658> Rolled 18You steel yourself, using every ounce of will power you have to fight back the pain. You won't let this get in the way of your mission, you have to prove yourself. You take a deep breath and slowly start walking around to search for your CO. The carnage is pretty bad around the shed, you know that nobody else survived the explosion and it would be a waste of time. You head back to the transport and walk to the other side of the road. Your eyes immediately turn to a crumpled shape alongside the ditch in the road and shamble your way to it. It is your CO and she's in rough shape; one side of her face is burnt from the blast and her leg is broken at the knee, the small pool of blood soaking the grass around the wound explaining why the parts of her skin that aren't burnt are pale as ivory. Kneeling next to her you check her pulse, you can hardly feel it.You're not a medic, you're a soldier. You need to get her back to the transport and try to contact someone to give you an evac. What do you do?
>>25420768You were in the turret for most of the time so you aren't sure.
>>25420218Had to do it
>>25420889Doesn't our gear include a first aid kit as standard?Give our CO some first aid to stabilize her for movement. Then we carry her back to the transport and look for a working comm to call for a medevac.
>>25420889Get back to the transport and look for first aid supplies. Patch her up as well as you can and then drive the transport over, hoist her in and evac.
>>25420940Actually nah, moving her is a bad idea. Do what this guy said.
>>25420908Shouldn't that be standard equipment, though? Or maybe some corrupt bureaucrat sold them...
>>25420940Well, yeah, if we can drive the transport, then your plan is best. I wasn't sure if we had the training for it since it was our CO that was driving.
>>25420986You'd think that boot camp would cover basics like that?
>>25420926Unfortunately no; The standard Stormtrooper load out is your Blaster rifle with a few special rounds ( incendiary, stun, tranquilizer), a grappling hook, a short range wrist comm, and one thermal detonator,
we need to get our CO to the transport (after stabilizing), then radio for help. there might still be rebels around, waiting to finish the survivors.after we radio out, see if there's any other survivors, then take care of them as we can with the first aid kit.
>>25420926>>25421020They never did seem to care much for Stormtrooper survivability
>>25421039Which is funny considering how high the selection standards are to become a trooper.
>>25421020>grappling hook>no first aid kitThis makes perfect sense.
>>25420926>>25420940>>25421035Even though you're not a medic you know that moving her in her condition would probably kill her. You don't remember if you saw any medical equipment in the transport but right now it's the only thing you can think of. You make your way back inside the cramped confines of the transport and start looking for anything that could help your CO.D20 for Perception check ( This roll is going to be important, pray to the dice gods for luck)

After you've sent out the distress signal you make it back to your CO as fast as your broken body could take you.You kneel down beside her; she's still unresponsive and her pulse is almost non-existent. The reinforcements won't make it here in time, you can feel it in your gut. Before you can think of what to do next, you hear the haunting sound of her last breath pass her lips and she dies.

I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Stormtroopers, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on the Rebels, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire Imperial Military. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before in this Galaxy, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the Galaxy and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the Imperial Army and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the Galaxy, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, rebel."
>>25421786Channeling our fury against the Rebel scum, on the other hand, is an excellent idea. Let's fall to the Dark side!
>>25421786Too angry to care.
>>25421616Grey Weenie, yo. Fucks us all.>>25421664Rebel scum will pay. If it doesn't violate regs, we should see about getting our (now dead) squad's serial numbers tattooed, maybe on our arm. We weren't fast enough, weren't tough enough. We let the Rebels do this to them. The only way to balance the scales is to kill a dozen Rebels for each of them, personally.
>>25421849Tattoos are meh. No. Taking a memento is fine though.

>>25421934It's okay, we'll take her watch and boots as mementos, no-one will miss those. Also gold teeth if she has some.

>>25421726>>25421727>>25421736>>25421783You feel a little bit of grief towards the dead officer; you didn't know her well enough to get emotionally attached to her; you didn't even know her name, but she had saved you in the bar and you felt it was only right to try and save her in return.... and you failed. You pick up her lifeless body and carry her back to the transport, laying her down on one of the rows of seats. You sit down next to her and try to process what just happened. Your entire squad is dead, your commanding officer is dead, and you're sitting out in the middle of nowhere in a scorched suit of armor and barely conscious. Your heart beats faster as rage slowly takes over and your mind is filled with one thought, vengeance against the rebels. You sit there for what seems like forever until you hear the familiar sound of an Imperial shuttle slowly getting louder and louder. You're adrenaline spent, you pass out again with the thought of vengeance and death on your mind. The shuttle lands and a squad of troopers exits; guns drawn and looking for something to shoot. Instead of enemies they find you, a lone trooper in beat up armor and barely alive sitting next to his commanding officer; defending her even in death. You are transported back to the Imperial prison and spend 3 weeks in a Bacta tank. After you recover you are recognized for your survivability and your valiant attempt to save the life of your commanding officer and are bumped up from Beta squad to Alpha squad. You are also given a new set of armor and as a token of your brutal dispatch of the rebel ambushers your E-11 blaster is replaced with a T-21 light repeating blaster.Enjoy the wargear while I write up what happens next

>>25422236I'm trying to look on Wookieepedia to see if it touches on any kind of medal system the Imperial military has.You do have one thing however; before you passed out you took a piece of your CO's broken comlink as a reminder of your failure to protect her.
>>25422198>T-21 light repeating blaster.I don't think you fuckers realize the ass-kicking potential of this weapon.
>>25422198>fail your squad and your CO>get them all killed>fail to save CO>Command misinterprets events, get promoted and respect from new squadMan, survivor's guilt isn't enough to cover this. Let's get that cheap-ass droid for opening suspicious doors and packages, at least.
>>25422298Just remember, short conrolled bursts. Just enough space to say "Die motherfucker die."
>>25422198Who the hell do we talk to for basic first-aid training? We're going to be pissed when we learn that we might have been able to save her by using our grappling hook's line to slow the flow of blood to her wound.and can we actually pick up a medical kit somewhere or make our own?
>>25422236Bro we don't get any medals until we do something really badass. This is the start of the revenge arc.

>>25422332Purple heart is basically the consolation prize of medals, anon.

>>25422517Alpha squad is one of the more seasoned groups in the city. >>25422560Nonsense, there's no better way to brood in anger than with head full of whiskey. Let's hit the bars, pick fights.
>>25422580Can we just do all of them alphabetically? I admit a bar brawl would be good storywise.

You give your weapon to the Chief Armorer and tell him to make it as powerful as possible. Despite your heated first encounter with the old Ugnaught, he just snorts and gets to upgrading your weapon. After 2 hours he hands it back to you; he put in a bigger power cell and strung more cooling wire around the power pack receiver conduit; allowing you to shoot 40 rounds apart from the standard 25 and increasing the rate of fire exponentially.( I just gave you guys a death machine, every ranged combat roll you succeed will be extremely fatal; even if the enemy is behind cover or is wearing heavy armor.)After that you decide it's time for some R&R and you head to one of the local bars to drink the pain of the last few weeks away. You find a bar that is populated by other troopers and Imperial workers like yourself blowing off some steam. After about 30 minutes of steady drinking you're thoroughly sauced and looking for an excuse to fight. You survey the bar; at the far end you see a group of young soldiers trying to get the affections of a Twi-lek who looks very annoyed. You look to the other side and see an Aqualish drinking by himself; the memory of being beaten up by one of his kind makes you angry and wanting to prove yourself. So what'll it be gents?A. >>25423692Yeah, if concensual sex with an alien is unpassable, raping one is even worse; like fucking an animal.
>>25423772>>25423715fuck, stick with that one
Rolled 18>>25423810Beat up the biggest soldier, then the smaller soldiers, then the twi'lek whore just on general principles.
>>25423715Just go with this one. I also think it's stupid that we are defending this alien scum. It's better if you think of it as us defending the purity of the Empire. No fraternizing with aliens.
>>25423854I approve of this.>>25423733as per this Anon, a backhand should be sufficient if the Twi-lek addresses us with either thanks or an "I don't need help from imperial trash"Bitch, you think I do this for you? I'm keeping these boys out of reach from xeno scum like you. Go cut your hair, hippie!
>>25423870It's more along the lines of you being shit-faced drunk and you think the Twi-lek is your dead commanding officer.>>25423733I tallied up what I had at the time. I'll try to wait longer next time.
>>25423900>Twi-lek>cutting her hair>pic related
>>25423927No worries, if you'd have waited any longer we might have come up with option D and it's still early enough for us to, Iunno, realize she isn't our dead CO and then backhand her anyways
>>25423900>>25424000>dubs then trips>cutting twi-lek hair>option D
>>25423927We're not defending the purity of the Empire's finest?
>>25424029The public doesn't know what we're hallucinating yet.
Man, remember the last time we fought in a bar?You say that the new recruits are a disgrace to the uniform; I say we are for our incompetence.
Don't forget to yell incoherently about bombs, traps, rebel scum, or a combination of all three.
Rolled 14So we'll give our best punch to the big guy, manhandle his friends and bitchslap the twi'lek? Sounds like a plan.
>>25424169It's a tragedy, isn't it?
>>25424183>shake the twi'lek by her shoulders>'WHY DID YOU DIEEEEE?'
Rolled 4>>25424169But look at our rolls, anon, this time we won't, promise!Plus, squad leader is dead, so we don't give a fuck
>>25423715>>25423854> Rolled 18Just before he can strike the Twi-lek, you grab the wrist of the big soldier. He looks around at you and only has time to say " What the hell are you-" before you slug him across the face. The powerful hit staggers him and he falls back onto a nearby table, breaking it and showering him in broken glass and alcohol. The other two soldiers rush at you, one of them hits you across the face while the other puts you in an arm lock. You take another hit from the soldier in the front and fortunately your drunkenness makes you oblivious to the pain. As the soldier is about to strike you another time, you extend your leg and kick him in his nether regions as hard as you can, sending him rolling on the floor crying over his broken thermal detonators. The soldier holding you sees this and loosens his grip for a split second, giving you the room to head butt him. His arms let go of you to nurse his broken nose, you punch him in the face again for good measure and he drops to the ground unconscious." HEY!"You turn around to be greeted with the sight of a DL-44 blaster being pointed at you. The big soldier has recovered from your sucker punch and is getting ready to shoot you.You aren't wearing your armor so a direct shot from his blaster would be fatal, but you did decide to carry your back up blaster with you; an SE-14r. Roll d20 for a dexterity check; let's hope you can shoot through beer goggles.
Rolled 10>>25424213>BECAUSE YOU SUCK XENO COCK AT ROLLING!>>Proof

>>25424318>>25424306Forgot to turn off dice and 4chan fucked with me...Can I use my spaghetti against these disgraces?
>>25424360He takes best of 3.
>>25424414Yes, but still, no rerolls.
>>25424414>best of threeand nobody has rolled higher than an 18, which was the first actual roll responding to his post in question - even if that 10 is counted the 18 is still second
>>25424255> Rolled 18Despite your alcohol drenched nerves your training pays off and you draw your blaster with lightning speed. A single shot reverberates around the bar.The big soldier crumples to the ground; a small, perfectly round hole burned through his chest. You holster your weapon and look around to see if your CO is okay, only to find a Twi-lek staring at you with wide, fright filled eyes." T-thank..." she begins to say, but you cut her off" You're not the commander" "What?" the puzzled look on her face angers you; she tricked you and now she's playing dumb. You strike her across the face and she falls, completely caught off guard. All the other bar patrons are looking at you, completely horrified. You don't like all these people looking at you; you go over to the body of the soldier you just killed, pick up his blaster and shove it into the back of your pants. You then grab a bottle of booze from one of the nearby tables and walk out of the bar and into the night.and so concludes tonights session. We covered a lot of ground this time and you guys did a great job giving ideas and input; I love how you guys are leading the story.Congratulations on your achievements; we are heavy weapons guy now.
>>25424562We are the crazy heavy weapons guy nobody fucks with cause I totally heard he murdered TK-74 in a bar over some alien slutAKA: The best possible role
>>25424562We uh, aren't going to get court-marshalled for this, will we?Or are we going to get the other guy's job if it was better? I mean, the Empire is a huge bureacracy, but they also don't seem to mind just offing guys for screwing up.>What do we need to do to become an Imperial Commando/Scout Trooper?
>>25424562YESSS, I will be following this quest in the future.
>>25424623Hey, he pulled the blaster on us first; his fault he couldn't keep it in his pants while lusting after some non-human trash.
>>25424562Woohoo, that was badass as hell! >" You're not the commander" Man that was total psycho killer line, got me the creeps.
>>25424663>TK-74 SHOT FIRST
>>25424692Tune in next time for Stormtrooper Quest: First Blood Part 2, Rebels Suck Edition
>>25424562Fucking bad ass!I see us being tapped on the shoulder to join the Commandos soon...
Just archived it on sup/tg/. Make sure you keep up so you know what's going on for our next session!
>>25424831When is the next session?
>>25424848I've got to remind everyone that I still have pneumonia and, for those who don't live in the states, this Sunday is Father's day so I have plans for that. I'll try to do it either tomorrow or Saturday depending on how I feel and what I'm doing.
>>25424741No, we don't have the discipline or the self-control to get into the Commandos.
>>25424896This.That being said, one day it might happen. Until then, we'll keep on truckin.
>>25424741Woah! We're getting too ahead of ourselves here. It's only been the first couple of weeks of our first deployment. While 392 has made some advancement through the ranks he's still a greenhorn.
Goddamnit, I get home and now we PTSD guy?And we didn't even get to fuck the CO
>>25424896that comes with experience and surviving, which we will do, I can see us eventually becoming something like Sev, cold, detached and utterly ready to murder everyone in the room at a moments notice.
>>25425015It's not too late yet, if you catch my drift...
>>25424891You should get a twitter to announce next session times, makes it a lot easier to be there from the start instead of trawling through the catalog all day long
>>25425015PTSD guy is pretty good for storytelling.
>>25425106As long as it means we can fuck bitches with no emotional attachment, then its fine by me
>>25425106remember to vote so that this doesn't get deleted.http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?page=0
>>25425106You meant 'pretty good for hilarious freakouts'?
>>25425032We're stupid, we're incompetent, and people are hell-bent on getting him killed before that point. Did we get medpacks so that we can patch up wounds, because there's not a single medic in Alpha Squad? No.Did we get better armor so we can survive? No.Did we get an expendable droid that we send ahead of us? No.What we did, is get drunk at a bar, get into a fight, and killed another stormtrooper.>>25425106If he survives. If you want to hear the story of a PTSD-addled soldier, there's always your local Veterans Affairs office.
>>25425087I've never made a twitter account before, I'll look into it.>>25425135Is there any other site I can upload the threads to so that they won't get deleted?
>>25425208Foolz does automatic archiving of /tg/.http://archive.foolz.us/tg/
>>25425222I've been on foolz before, didn't know they archived it automatically. Good to know
>>25425250They archive every thread. That's why, if you want to find your quest on foolz, you need to make sure that your trip is always in the first post; it makes finding threads easier via finding all threads with an OP post with the trip.
>>25425208archives on suptg only get deleted if they get lots of negative votes, so this quest has nothing to fear>>25425184as long as before we go out on our next op we get medkits, I'll be happy, it just seems really OOC for 392 to not take measures to stop what happened to his CO from happening again
>>25425184I don't think he's stupid or incompetent, he's just a bit of an impulsive loose cannon.Besides, we hardly ever play those sort of characters.
>>25425208>I've never made a twitter account before, I'll look into it.its pretty damn simple, and it means we can bookmark it, then all you need to do is tweet when a session is going to run ahead of time, or when you put a thread upmakes it alot easier to find it
>>25425325Perhaps when we wake up with a splitting headache, a citation, and more survivor's guilt.
Twitter account made and uploaded in description, make sure you guys follow me!
>>25425366right now, he is stupid and incompetent because you morons are playing him that way
>>25425395Well, what do you expect from morons, eh?
>>25425395We're playing him like an interesting character, the incompetence is all /tg/ diceroller.
>>25425325>seems really OOC for 392 to not take measures to stop what happened to his CO from happening againNot just his CO, but himself. He had injuries that needed 3 weeks in a bacta tank; that's some pretty serious injuries and might have been close to death himself. A medic with a medkit would have really helped.
>>25425325I'll make a note of that for our next session. Is there anything else you or anyone still in this thread would like to ask?
>>25425395He's like a western gunslinger. He's not stupid, I'd like to think of him as a pretty smart guy who just doesn't give a shit what happens as long as he gets to kill rebels.
>>25425395>we should play the MC as a robot that is only interested in upgrading his arms and armorYeah no, I don't think that it's us who's the morons here.
>>25422434Survivors guilt means massive risk taking to protect others.
>>25425453>doing stupid shit that has a high chance of getting the MC hurt or dead instead of having him act naturally after a near-death eventNo, you really are the moron here.
>>25425438>He's like a western gunslinger. He's not stupidthey were all stupid
>>25425437Yeah, we're basically using a LMG now, correct?
>>25425483>"Act naturally after a near death event."You know not every MC is supposed to be a self-insert. This was natural for him. He was angry and he wanted to take it out on someone in a bar.You shouldn't get mad when people play characters differently. It gets old when /tg/ plays the same thing over and over.
>>25425467I know a guy I used to work with who had survivor's guilt bad. He was a Seal in Vietnam and went on a mission that ended up killing everyone in his squad except him and gave him a piece of grenade shrapnel lodged in his head. He stutters like crazy now because of it and talks about nightmares constantly. As for the survivors guilt part, the man doesn't have an ounce of self-confidence in him and thinks everything is his fault. It's really sad being around him.
>>25425500Yes we are. According to wookieepedia the T-21 is largest gun the Empire makes that can be carried by a single trooper.
>>25425514This. I'm sure that anon would've enjoyed just a *riveting* evening of getting better armor and masturbating over stats, but rest of us wanted to go to a bar, an lo, there was much fun to be had for all. It seems as if "doing things" somehow makes the character more interesting, who would've thought so?
>>25425568I totally agree (not the anon you're arguing with btw), the 'going to the bar bit' was awesome, the choice of upgrading our already deadly gun to make it more deadlier, as opposed to getting medkits though, that seemed stupid and I honestly hope there is a chance we can pick some up before our next mission.
>>25425568So instead of being concerned with his own self-preservation, and going to a droid shop and having something happen there, you prefer to drive the character to be the most reckless and stupid that he can be.
>>25425623Yes? It ended awesomely, what's the problem here?
>>25425623Maybe surviving that horrible situation when he feels he should have died makes him reckless and stupid.
>>25425603Like I said, I'll make a note of it for next time.
>>25425603Ehh, we can totally pick up some medkits before our next mission. It would be weird if we couldn't.
>>25425623law of dramatic intent
>>25425623He suffers from PTSD and *isn't* concerned with his own self-preservation, that's the entire point of this character. Sometimes the sensible thing to do is also very OOC, have you thought about that?
>>25425639Because the awesome was only because of a very good die roll, not anything else.
>>25425804That's what excitement is about, you never know how it's going to end!
>>25425834>>25425804face it, we're a bunch of gambling addicts
>>25425688Well then, you won't complain if we die in the next thread, right.
>>25425688This is the reason.
>>25425897Ehh, what's the worst that could happen? We're barely at thread #3, no way the MC could die yet.
>>25425942You know that isn't going to happen, you pansy. OP won't kill off his quest when it's barely even begun.
>>25425643Hey, if we had failed that initiative roll against the other trooper, would we have died?Or just suffered a blaster wound and another week in the bacta tank?
>>25425962>>25425946Well, if we're really fucking stupid, he might - you never know, which is the exciting bit.
>>25425946>>25425962Let's put it to the test, then.
>>25425973I'm not an asshole GM; I let the story you guys create dictate my actions. Sometimes I will add in crucial dice rolls like the one in the beginning because I felt like the story demanded it.
>>25425946We could have died in the fight in this bread, or in the rebel thermal det trap from last thread. Good rolls at crucial points is the only think keeping us alive.I like it this way anyway, we're a bloody Stormtrooper, not Vader. Life in the Empire's military is harsh and unforgiving; we'll die sooner or later.
>>25426071But I think you should make the stakes extremely high for each roll, though, to fit with the tone of the game. If we'd failed in the bar, we should have either died or been put into a bacta tank for another week, with a demotion and citation waiting for us.
>>25426091Perhaps, but I don't really think that it's true. I believe that failure at those points would've caused us some repercussion, but the quest would've continued.
>>25426080It's the truth, though. You don't have to acknowledge it if it makes you feel better.
>>25426091Motion seconded, the feeling, at least, of being on the edge of fucking up because we're pushing the envelope is what is making this quest exciting to me. Sure, we'll get coksure and take too many risks, but I expect the OP to be there when we fuck up and give us what we asked for- the price of failure. Maybe not death (unless we've really and truly screwed the pooch), because that means the end of the game, but a damn good setback.
>>25426071Hey, a question about that SEAL co-worker you said had survivor's guilt; did he take any great personal risks, or was he very risk-averse?I decided to read up on survivor's guilt, and not the version presented in movies, and they mostly talk about guilt, depression, and lack of motivation. And suicidal, yes, but not by taking unreasonable personal risks.
>>25426174Oh but I have made the stakes high; the very first roll that failed in this thread caused the death of the CO. That being said I'm not going to go out of my way to kill the MC.How about this; maybe for the next thread I'll add more options to what you can do/say to people in certain situations.Let me use the bar fight as an example; would you have preferred me to give you the option of fighting them, talking to them, or trying to lie to them to make them go away?I want your guy's input on this so I can make this quest as close to what you want it to be.
>>25426282He was a Navy Seal in Vietnam that went on special missions and almost died from one of them, I would say that's taking a great personal risk
>>25426308more options is always good, and even if we go straight for 1 option, it atleast gets discussions flowing about the different options, it gets people thinking
>>25426308Sure, the options are nice, but going by how certain players have been responding, they would have gone for the fight option no matter what. And at that point, death should always be a very real likelihood. We're in a setting, and on a world, where barfights are very much likely to result in vibro-knives and blasters being pulled. Every single fight should have the chance of death.
>>25426346Well yes, but I'm asking about how he was afterwards, not before.
>>25426371>Every single fight should have the chance of death.only if we roll 3 1's in a row, because honestly, I would like this quest to last past the next thread where you will inevitably fuck up
>>254264182 failures should be enough to cause death.Otherwise, there's not enough risk, is there.
>>25426389No, he just went about his business. Second guessed every single thing he did because he was so unsure of trusting his own decisions; it took him hours to get simple tasks done just because of that.
>>25426452>Second guessed every single thing he did because he was so unsure of trusting his own decisionsSounds like he became risk-averse, then.
>>25426362>>25426371So what I'm hearing is I should add more options but keep the high stakes? As others have said before the only thing that's been keeping you alive throughout this entire quest is some damn lucky dice rolls. I guess I'm nervous about killing the character prematurely, especially if it comes across as an arbitrary decision because I don't want to come across as an asshole to you guys.
>>25426468Two different people can react in different ways.Maybe our guys was thinking "if I could have reacted faster, she'd still be alive"bam, risk-taking behavior and twitchy reflexes
>>25426512>damn lucky dice rolls>especially if it comes across as an arbitrary decisionYeah, you need to make it apparent that its our fuckups that get us into a situation where we can die, and then the lucky dice can come out to play. Having high stakes is great, but if we roll low and trip on a gutter and snap our neck, that is fucking retarded. Death should not be a possibility of every single action we take, it should only be a possibility when the actions we take are bad enough to push us into that dark corner, then it becomes fair.Otherwise this quest won't last 3 posts in the next thread.
>>25426512>So what I'm hearing is I should add more options but keep the high stakes?Yes. If players choose to do something risky or stupid, they should be prepared to accept the consequences of their actions. Just because you plan for something to go a certain way, doesn't mean that it will. Of course, because of that, I think that modifiers due to proper planning, preparation, and equipment should be allowed. If the players don't take the time and care for proper setup, then of course they shouldn't get the extra bit of protection that such modifiers grant.
>>25426528He could also go the route of "If I knew first aid I could have saved her", or "If I was trained in detecting explosives I could have prevented it"He could become all "gotta catch em all" towards skills and mission preparation
>>25426667and that outlook isn't incompatible with the "I need to solve the problems faster"he isn't a determinator who will forsake his personality just to become a multiple doctorate holder
>>25426512Death should be a possibility because of our actions, not because of "mah hardcorez diffuculty"
>>25426710No it is not, I never said it was, I said it was one of the many routes he could go down depending on how we play him, 1 threads worth of decisions does not make a man.
>>25426637>>25426632Thanks for the input; I'll keep that in mind when I start our next session
>>25426722Starting a fight in a bar with soldiers should always carry the possibility of death, though. That DL-44 should have killed us if 1. we failed the initiative and 2. we failed a second check to dodge. MAYBE a 3. medtechs get to us in time if we didn't fail by too big a margin in 2.Otherwise there isn't very much consequences for stupid actions.
>>25426512Ultimately, you shouldn't be afraid to put your boot down. Don't bend to the whims of /tg/.
>>25426761If /tg/ gets a character killed, then /tg/ gets a character killed. Don't sugarcoat it, don't fudge the DC to allow for some kind of bullshit plot armor to save the MC. As a GM you need to be firm and put your foot down over /tg/'s whining when their dumb actions get them in trouble.I mean, for fuck's sake, you're even allowing what are essentially 2 free rerolls per action by taking the best of 3. Almost no one would allow that in an actual tabletop game without burning Fate points, and you're allowing it for every single roll.
>>25426796Hurt me more, Snake
>>25426891It's because this is a Quest, and despite how shitty most of them are, storytelling should take precedence over mechanical difficulty. If you're using the textual medium you might as well make it easier to write a satisfying story.
>>25426943>storytelling should take precedence over mechanical difficultyFun should have precedence over storytelling and mechanical difficulty. And part of fun is having stakes and the possibility for failure and loss. And random chance of failure is explicitly made a part of the storytelling process by including mechanics. Otherwise, there's no reason to roll, and each decision should have a hidden success/failure condition.Since we do have dice in this quest, random failure has to be accounted for as a valid consequence. Since "best out of 3" equating to 2 rerolls on every action, that should be more than enough chance for success on even the most stupid of actions for the MC to survive, and therefore death should be a valid consequence for failure.
>>25426782Especially since a DL-44 is pretty much the Star Wars equivalent of a Smith & Wesson Model 29.
>>25426389You do realize evry day life an combat have nothing to do with each other, yes?Throw him in front of a burning house with a kid trapped inside, see what happens.
Holy shit OP you're not sugarcoating this quest at all huh? Also, can we drop the "best of 3" thing with dice rolls? I appreciate the thought but it takes some of the suspense out of it. If /tg/ fucks up, we fuck up. Wouldn't be the first time a stomtrooper died and won't be the last. Also, since our CO died, did you have plans to flesh her out down the road? Was she meant to become a love interest or something? I will admit, killing her off was the twist this quest needed. Niw its got some real potential.
>>25431326the best of 3 is almost a necessity for having multiple participants in a quest, things are already hard enough, and without having a 3 dice pool, this quest will not last past its next threadI appreciate that you're a masochist, but please, I would like this quest to stick around for a while.
