As you crest the final hill overlooking the city of Oorai, you get a really bad feeling about how quiet it looks down there. You haven't heard anything from the I-Go or Pz38(t) teams since first abortive ambush at the pass. You had assumed that the three Matildas and the Black Prince had been the entirety of Glorianna's forces.

You are the commander of the M26A1 Super Pershing "Black Jack" and you're now pretty sure you were completely wrong in that assumption. "Patrick, get on the horn see if you can raise the Volleyball team or the Council, see if they've seen anything down there." You order, forcing calm into your voice. "It's way too quiet. I don't like this."

It really wouldn't be too unlikely for them to had just been out of radio range- as old as those tanks were their radios were nowhere near as powerful as modern ones, and with the hill terrain they might just be out of range. You open the hatch and fresh air bursts down into the turret as you stand up out of the hatch and wave at the History Club's StuG.

Caesar's head appears out of the commander's hatch followed shortly by Erwin's oversized hat and eventually head from the other.

"Nice work on the ambush." You compliment them before looking at Erwin. "You really wear that in there?"

"You wear that helmet in there?" She says, not skipping a beat in commenting on your Patton-style helmet.

It's a bit amazing how I got caught up in this thanks to Only War. Something about the anime irked me...

Right, on to the quest; Let's also get on the horn and warn the others of the 6th tank.

>Once we get into the city split up- I think there might be another tank down there.

Let's not give those Britaboos two kills. Let's make them whores work.
>>
>Stick together and keep an eye on us- it's way too quiet down there.

Yeah strength in numbers, and covering our blind spots

I realized somethign that might happen: Anzu might still make Miho and Co. do the dance for getting knocked out even if we win.
>>
>>25404333
Fifth tank.
And it's only a feeling at this point. So far, all we've seen is four.

Also, who was the first kill? 'Cause the Lee was more of a suicide than a kill
>>
>>25404349
didn't the OP say in IRC there was no fifth tank?
>>
>>25404333
Also, there's quite a bit about the anime that could irk. Namely the fact that Panzergruppe Mih had a liberal application of plot armor.

I still enjoyed it though. After all, more tanks=more better as far as I'm concerned
>>
>>25404378
He said they didn't have 5 tanks.

We saw four already so that means...
>>
>>25404268
>Once we get into the city split up- I think there might be another tank down there.

We have lost contact with our other tanks, until we can restablish contact, assume they are taken out.

The time is: Tanks o' clock
>>

He said that there we not five tanks.

Which gels with the fact that Yukari's defector/friend said that they received three new tanks, the Black Prince and two unidentifieds.
>>

>>

After we split up, we do a check up on current postion every 3 mins (or so) or if we spot any of our teammates and/or more enemy tanks
>>

A big cluster of tanks in a tight urban spaces is more so. Also we get more scouting done this way.
>>
>>25404702
This. This so much.

We don't need to split up to far in any case. just have them move through a street or two from he side of us. That way we can get to their location or them to our quickly if either of us need too.
>>
>Once we get into the city split up- I think there might be another tank down there.
Split up, keep in radio contact
>>
>split up but keep in radio contact. Don't let the Black Prince sneak up ob us.
>>
>>25404702

Seconded. Oorai's a tight enough fit for Jack as it is.

And seriously, I'd like to make those Britaboos work like whores for their kills.
>>
>>25404702
It leaves more blind spots and likely easy sneaking chances.
>>
>>25404812
The Stug is not good at scouting anyway. We should split up.
>>
>>25404818
perhaps but by that logic it would be better covering a blind spot than going out looking for something.
>>
>>25404702
IS there ANYWAY to scan the radio bands? can we pick up the Brit's band?
>>
>>25404857
Stug mostly looks forward, because of its gun configuration. It's low profile generally makes that ok.

We stick out like a sore thumb but have slightly better all around vision (I think). Its really kind of either or, its not an easy choice.

If we only have one radio it's not a particularly good idea. Any time we're off our freq is time that someone could be reporting and we're oblivious. Then, assuming we do find theirs, we'll have to cut back over to our net again to do anything with it.
>>

Thinking about it...shouldn't Miho's tank most likely still be in range? It wasn't go that fast to the city after all
>>
"Stick close- I've got a bad feeling about this..." You say towards the StuG's commanders. "Keep any eye out, let us know if you see anything or hear from the other teams." As they disappear down into the StuG superstructure, you bring your binoculars up and try to get a closer look at the city as you roll down the hill towards it. You can't see anything, of course- the city isn't small and the buildings block most of the street-level view.

A few minutes later you cautiously enter the city's suburbs, mostly thin, tall residential houses with tiny little front yards- there's almost a complete lack of cars or human activity- the town had been evacuated for the battle, but it still had an eerie feel to it. You'd actually never fought in a city before- American tanking had no shortage of terrain far away from cities to use for the sport and thus was largely held out in the country or in already-made Military practice grounds.

"Like we're the last people on Earth." Patrick comments. "Spooky as hell out here."

You're inclined to agree with him.

Sorry, Black Jack is an M26E1, cocked it up in the OP.

E1 was basically an improved Super Pershing. (Similar gun but the ammo was changed to make it easier to load while retaining the same Muzzle Velocity.)
>>
>>25405642
its talking about the improved gun, which was taken from a super pershing and put onto a M26 turret, not the whole tank being an improved "super" pershing
>>
>>25405677
>>25405684
And you're still wrong...
>>
>>25405677
the M3A1 on the A1 is essentially a refined serial production version of the T54 with a different breech block, it is essentially the evolution of the super pershing's gun, so the difference is only in the shells used and the nomenclature.

But regardless, its still not a "Super" series experimental Pershing, only tanks commissioned for the Ordnance Board for the purposes of testing and evaluating were "Super" Pershing's.
>>
>>25405684

The term "Super Pershing" was always sort of nebulous- basically it was any Pershing with the improved T-series guns. (T15E1/E2, T54) These were basically meant to compete with the Tiger II's Long-88 (KwK-43 L/71). The uparmored version that saw combat in WWII was actually just a regular Pershing varient, as it still mounted the older M3 90mm gun.

So yeah, World of Tanks screwed it up a lot all over the place.
>>
>>25405826
and they are going to screw the T26E4 even more, they are changing its front armor to be "historical" because they modeled it wrong, so its going to lose about 12 degrees slope and about 80-100mm effective armor after the space armor changes come into effect

good news is that they are going to buff it in other areas, most likely, improving its penetration to match the long 88 it historically was better than.

also, if you have one and don't want the new changed version, you can sell it for its full gold price

>>
>>25405989
because Boiler plate is very soft and malleable, to be able to flex and hold the pressures of a boiler system, it is terrible armor plate material, it is too low quality and too soft to resist hits.

You duck back into the turret and tap Patrick's shoulder with your food. "Anything from the Lights down in the city?"

He turns back and shakes his head. "Nothing. Might not be in range for them to reply though."

You grimace. "Keep trying and let me know if you get anything from them." Your first taste of urban combat and you already hate it- Black Jack's greatest advantage in every match you'd been in so far had been the ability to find and destroy the enemy from long range. Down here in the city, though, it was anyone's game.

You swear under your breath- you didn't even know whether they had any more tanks besides that Black Prince. "Alright, Rich, head for the Alamo. Hopefully everyone's already ther-"

"Got the I-Go!" Patrick shouts. "Patching them through."

"-No! IT JUST BOUNCED OFF! BACK UP! REVERSE! GET AROUND THE CORNER!" You hear Noriko screaming- from outside the tank, off in the distance you hear the delayed sound of cannonfire echoing through the streets. From the sound of it she wasn't speaking directly into the headset either. "Go! We need to get around it! Shiko, turn! TURN HERE! We can hide and- Into the alley. We have to fit!" Whatever they were fighting it wasn't the Black Prince- it wasn't anywhere near fast enough to get to the city already.

Actually, the idea of the boilerplate wasn't to stop the round completely. Spaced armor acts by reducing the round's energy and/or fragmenting it before it hits the real armor. Even if the round goes straight through the boiler plate it'll still take enough of the momentum out of it that the RHS below it will do a better job stopping it.

Hell, even shit like rubble or concrete does a decent job as long as there's some kind of armor below it.

So, any guesses as to what we're going to be facing in the near future?
I'm going to throw my hat into the ring with Cromwells.
That seems to be what could have been in the other crates. Certainly wouldn't be Crusaders, because I'm 99% sure that St Gloriana already had Crusaders

but that only works if you give enough space between the spaced armor and the hull armor, which the boilerplate, did not do, nor did the concrete, wood logs or sandbags

you need atleast 60-80mm of empty air between the hull armor and the applique armor for the spaced armor effect to be worthwhile.

"Patrick! Get their attention- Ask them what they're engaging!" You should, already gluing your eyes to the commander's periscope and scanning every crossroad. You didn't know exactly where the gunfire had come from- there were too many buildings bouncing sound around- but you had a general direction.

"-Did they pass us? Are they gone?" Noriko askes in quiet panic. "What was it? What do you mean, I thought you knew all about tanks?" She breaths heavily for a few seconds. This would be utterly heartwrenching if it weren't a mostly-harmless school sport- whatever the I-Go was up against completely outclassed it.

"Can't get a hold of them- their channel is stuck broadcasting." Patricks says. You curse under your breath and then you start thinking as you listen to them. It's not a Matilda or a Churchill, and even an I-Go could penetrate a Crusader.

"Patrick- take my phone!" Rachel says suddenly, pulling her cellphone out of her jacket. "They're in the phonebook- see if you can call them!" Why didn't you think of that? Oh right, you didn't have their number.

It takes a few seconds, but Patrick manages to get through to one of the girls phones.

You turn and look down at Rose. "How'd you have their numbers?" You ask, curious.

She shrugs, not taking her eye away from her periscope. "They wanted to hang out." She says casually. "You think you guys are the only people I want to be seen with for the rest of the school year?" You shrug- she had a point.

"It's a Comet." Patrick says from below. "Taeko gave me a description- almost definately a Comet- too large for a Cromwell." While a Comet was certainly not the best late-war tank, it's gun was designed to punch through a Tiger with high velocity rounds, it definately could be worse- you'd tangled with them before.

"Right, get on the horn- broadcast to all tanks to head to the Alamo ASAP." You say. "We'll regroup there and then deal with the Comet." The tank picks up speed as Richard floors it.

The Panzer IV's going to struggle similarly to the 38(t), with it's current shortbarrel gun.

The ride is surprisingly smooth as Richard tear's ass through Oorai nearly at Black Jack's top speed- the pavement actually gave great grip and there was no debris to crawl over or avoid. Meanwhile, you're searching your phone history for Miho's number- Patrick wasn't able to get to her through the radio, which meant alternative means of communications were needed. You find it and dial.

It rings only once before Miho picks up. "Hello?"

You dispense with the pleasentries. "Miho, what's your position?" You say simply, trying to keep your tone even.

"We're about two kilometers outside of Oorai- the track started breaking, but we were able to hide off the road so we're making repairs. What's happening? Did your ambush work? Did you make it to Oorai?" She sounds genuinely worried.

"Ambush worked- killed the other two Matildas. Good news is we made to Oorai fine, bad news is there's a Comet and the I-Go's tangled up with it. Any thoughts?"

She thinks for a second. "If you can out-number the Comet you should be able to take it down or at least scare it off. Otherwise head for the rendevoux- we'll get there but it'll take some time to fix the track."

"Patrick, does the I-Go still have their comms stuck open?" You ask, getting an idea.

"Nope. I told her what was happening and she shut it off." He says.

You smile. "Alright, can you tell them to get the Comet's attention and try to drag it onto... 16th?" You say, sticking your head up to glance at a street sign. "We can take care of it from there."

Patrick relays the idea to them. "They're gonna try..."

"Right, Richard, see this next street? Back into it and we'll pre-sight the street." Black Jack comes to a slow halt before slowly backing into a small alley. You hand off control of the turret to Rose. "Alright, you've got the turret- light 'em up when you see them. Roy- AP rounds should suffice for a Comet."

You stare down the periscope, scanning the street- the Japanese, in all their precision, had marked out this part of the city with nice, uniform blocks that made ranging a simple multiplication problem. And it doesn't take long before your customer arrives.

You don't even have to give the order for Rose to pull the trigger and drop the hammer on it, the armor piercing round arcing out towards the British medium tank- It was moving at a good clip, so it's a glancing blow just above it's transmission compartment, but the impact was still enough to tear away a chunk of the superstructure above the engine and send the Comet skidding sideways into the opposite corner.

"Good hit! Reload!" You yell. The Comet turns it's turret and fires off a single round which sails over your turret before it backs out of wall it had crashed into and disappears down the side street. "Patrick, tell the I-Go crew they have my compliments."

"Um, they're still luring their Comet to us- they just reported it."

Hell.

Make sure to finish off our current quarry though.

No point sitting there, they'll have reported our position. We can leave the StuG but we need to make sure that Comet thinks we're moving.

That Comet we wounded is probably already telling the I-Go's Comet of our position; we'd better be out of here when they come.

Assuming they're maintaining radio contact, our ambush is already blown anyway. Lets get moving and let the StuG have a shot.
>>
if ammo is no problem, why the fuck are we not using nothing but HVAP?

also, why the fuck did we not use HVAP on that Comet?
>>
>>25409407
We get a limited number of rounds per battle. I imagine we would run out of HVAP if we used nothing but.

Also, we did pen, so it's not like HVAP would have killed it if AP didn't.
>>
>>25409407
I think it's because, contrary to popular belief, there is occasionally something as to much gun.
>>
>>25409407
Senshado approved ammo!

Don't know.
>>
>>25409407
Fuck HVAP, if that round had been a HE we wouldn't have to bother chasing it.

Let's finish what we start. At the very least, we'll have taken out one of the bastards.

No sense in trying to run down a tank half again faster than us. Might want to drop Miho a line about the apparent second comet.

Go after the wounded one before it ambushes someone important, Erwin and her StuG will have to [s]rape[/s] gently carress the one chasing the I-Go for us.

I recall a futa doujin where Momo claims she's going to come on Anzu's face.

She misses.
