LAST TIME ON GUNDAM AGE QUEST: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=Gundam+AGE+Quest

Check my Twitter for Updates and Reschedules: https://twitter.com/Crosswire

Your name is Dirk Crocker and your family has reunited. However you plan on splitting up this reunion very quickly with three different missions that will separate you, Scarlet and Dad. You have 20 hours to prepare for the mission and lots of time to prepare. For the most part you are pretty set, however while talking to Yurika while everyone was testing out the Genoriders, your Aunt Rysis showed up and began to chat you up.

You have no idea how she got here, what she wants, and you have no idea whether she intends to kill you or bake you cookies. Not that you’ve ever been able to tell any of those things when she’s shown up before, it’s just this time it’s a little more important to find out.

The only people in the hanger are you, Yurika and Aunt Rysis who is currently standing on a maintenance catwalk suspended from the ceiling and far out of your reach. You are unarmed, but Aunt Rysis doesn’t appear all that hostile.

What do you wish to do Dirk?
>>
>>25379962
"Uh, Hi?"

This should be interesting.
>>
>>25379962
To Rysis:
"Hey, you mind giving me a minute? This is kinda important."

To Yurika:
"Listen. I promised you I'll do whatever I can to save Zeheart, but you have to promise me something in return. I'd ask you not to pilot the Gundam because you're too good for something like that, but I doubt you'll listen to me. So promise me this - please, if you ever need me, find me, and I'll do whatever I can to keep you out of trouble. Deal?"

Rysis, from up top:
"Oh, God, just kiss her already and get your ass over here."
>>
>>25379962
"Auntie! It's good to see you again, I think.

I see that you haven't broken the habit of randomly flirting with boys over a hundred years younger than you. Robbing the cradle much?

Before I go and give you a hug I've got a quick question. Is this a you helping us visit or are you just stopping and saying hi before you get into a Mobile Suit fight with my dad, again?"

After that's answered satisfactorily make our way up there and give her a hug.

"Seriously Auntie, Yurika isn't my girlfriend. Seriously, you should know this by now. I'm obviously playing the oblivious anime protagonist who unwittingly ends up with a harem. Just give it time and all the members will show up."
>>
>>25379962

"Is it christmas already or are you just here to kill dad?"
>>
>>25380095
He does fit that trope rather well, doesn't he?
>>
>>25379962
Does Yurika know Rysis? I'm sure we've told her stories of the crazy lady who sometimes tries to kill Mom and Dad and sometimes buys them delightful anniversary presents, but it's plausible that she's never actually encountered her in person. I know I'd try to get children as far away from her as possible. Probably Dirk's only talked to her before because she keeps breaking into the house before Jake and Mellis can respond.
>>
>>25380095
You know, even if we're not counting the cryostasis, Rysis has to be at least in her fifties. She looks 21, and back in part one she knew from experience that she didn't noticeably age, so probably at least a decade passed between her cyberconversion and her being frozen. And it's been twenty five years since then. You're nearly sixty years old, aunty. Nearly one hundred and eighty if we count the time you spent frozen. Stop flirting with teenagers.
>>
>>25380139
And he's self aware to realize it and make fun of it.

My guess, he'll spend more time with Rena, work on engineering stuff with her, talk to her a lot, eat dinner with her, and after a few "dates" have a moment of realization where he realizes "Holy shit I got a girlfriend and didn't notice."
>>
>>25380293
Or Rena just now noticed Dirk and Yurika and figured out that he already has a girlfriend and will stop messing around with him.
>>
>>25380317
But Dirk isn't going out with Yurika. Why would anyone think that?
>>
>>25380359
She doesn't know that. And considering how Rysis just interrupted a friendly hug, she might get the wrong idea.
Cue Dirk getting awkwardly adorable trying to explain to everyone that she's not his girlfriend.

On a side note, did Zeheart like Yurika, or did he flirt for the sake of the mission, while he actually likes Romary?
>>
>>25380404

Depends. Was Zeheart Glemy?
>>
>>25380443
In this timeline? I guess so.

"Auntie! It's good to see you again, I think. I see that you haven't broken the habit of randomly flirting with boys over a hundred years younger than you. Robbing the cradle much?" you ask with an eyebrow raise, getting a laugh out of your aunt.

"Oh what's the fun in having eternal youth if I can't hit on beautiful young men like you?" She asks, making you cringe a little.

"OK...before I go and give you a hug I've got a quick question. Is this a you helping us visit or are you just stopping and saying hi before you get into a Mobile Suit fight with my dad, again?"

"Oh this is my just stopping by to see what your father and his kids are up to. Me and Travis has been rather bored lately, chopping up Vagan, bombing Federation ships and jaywalking in the colonies is getting a little dull." Rysis explains as you make your way up to her and hug her after making sure she doesn't have a knife.

"Well I guess you can help out if you want..."

"Oh no no I don't to want to interrupt you and your girlfriends time together, besides I think your still far to young for a three wa- Oh you meant with what you and your Dad are doing"

You blush and little and break the hug, shaking your head. "No no! Me and Yurika aren't in a relationship, I'm way to lame to have a girlfriend! Look at me I'm like a walking Nerd Trope that repels every sexy woman besides my Aunt, which is REALLY creepy now that I think about it..."

Yurika actually giggles a little and Rysis shakes her head.

"Surrrrre. Whatever you say Dirky. So, want to tell me what you and your folks have planned?"

Well Dirk? What do you want to tell her?
>>
>>25380624
"We're planning something that, if anyone other than Jake suggested it, would be considered a suicide mission. Want in?"
>>
>>25380624
"It's crazy enough to make even Dad a bit nervous. Interested?"
>>
>>25380624

"Oh, you know dad, Defending the colonies from an elite Vagan X-Rounder squad with a mission to drop the colonies on the earth... Holding the Fedaration line... oh, and a direct Search & Rescue on the Vagen Homeworld...
>>
>>25380624
"Basically, shit's gotten real. We're about to hit the Vagan so hard their grandchildren are going to feel sore."
>>
>>25380624
"Let's see. Defending the innocent, stopping colony drops, capturing Vagan spies, kicking reason in the shins and apparently planing suicide missions that even dad is nervous about. The usual."
>>
>>25380624
"Trust me, if I get a girlfriend, or due to some strange twist of fate end up with half a dozen girls vying for my attention you'll be one of the first people to know. Isn't Travis enough for you?

Knowing me it'll be about three dates before I realize I'm actually going out with someone. My genre savviness only goes so far.

As for what we have planned. It's completely batshit insane, involves fighting on three different fronts at once that being defending against a colony drop, holding the line against a full-scale assault, and striking directly against the Vagan Homeworld, abusing the rules of the universe, my Dad thinks it's nearly impossible, and we're doing it anyway. I don't really even have to ask if you're interested, I know you, all I have to do is wait for you to decide which place sounds the most exciting."
>>
>>25380624
"I'm not entirely sure what Dad's planning, to be honest. Dad claims it involves causality violation, though, so I am staying the FUCK away from it. I think he might have a warp drive. Mom's staying here with Scarlet and Asemu to guard the colony cluster, and I'm heading off to Big Ring for...wait, what am I doing at Big Ring? I think I'm just there to monitor the AGE Builder. Damnit, I think I just lost my protagonism. I have to step up my game if I don't want to wind up dying offscreen."
>>
>>25380904
Big Ring, it's kind of the HQ for Federation Forces and the line of defense between the Vagan and Earth.

This means the Vagans will attack it something fierce and it getting taken out will be very, very, very, very bad.
>>
>>25380673
>"We're planning something that, if anyone other than Jake suggested it, would be considered a suicide mission. Want in?"

"Do dinosaurs enjoy bombing helpless civilians?"

"...No?"

"Well they do in my mind! Count me in!" Rysis says gleefully.

How much information do you wish to give Rysis? She's fucking crazy, you know that and she probably does too. You don't know what she'll do or when, so if you tell her anything too sensitive it might come back to bite you in the ass.
>>
>>25381031
Tell her that she just need to follow Jake and blow up anyone in the way.
>>
>>25380974
Oh, I know what Big Ring is. I just think that Dirk would be having some genre awareness-related angst about not knowing his exact role. This is some heavy shit going on right now. Without a clearly established narrative purpose Dirk might be sacrificed for the sake of drama. He can't allow that!
>>
>>25381031
"You know what? I'd tell you everything, but you kinda interrupted something important here. So why don't you go bother dad for info?"
"Oh, and take pictures of his face when you pop out of nowhere. I need it for that album "Jake shitting his pants" I was telling you about."
>>
>>25381031
I say we pick one of the three missions for her, put her with them, and give her only information pertaining to that location. Tell her that other people are doing boring things somewhere else.

I say stick her with us, Akito, Yurika, and the Magic Schoolbus. We need some backup. Tell her about the mission we're on with Big Ring.
>>
>>25381031
"Sweet. Word of warning, though: Dad kind of implied the ship he'll be using defies causality. So try not to become your own grandmother or anything. And don't become my grandmother, either. Don't become anyone's grandmother is what I'm saying, I guess."
>>
>>25381056
Well, he's going to see Flit about making a nano-AGE Builder, probably is going to fix Akito's head, and run into something that'd force him to accept his X-Rounder powers and begin mastering them.

>>25381081
I doubt that a famous Federation hater like her would be willing to protect the Fed HQ.
>>
>>25381122
True. Throw her at the colonies then?
>>
>>25381081
Uhh, doesn't Rysis still hate the Federation? Rysis+Big Ring=boom. Might be better to send her with Jake or keep her at the colonies. If we send her with Jake, have her wreck any ships under construction she can. It may be an S&R mission, but with Jake along it'll inevitably turn into a sabotage or data theft mission as well.

>>25381031
"Is Travis coming, too, or is he busy organizing OrbitCon? Because the Glastonbury would be really nice to have with us right now."
>>
>>25381141
That'd be the safest thing to do.
It'd be awesome if we could send her with Jake, considering how she already knows Vagan space because she was there, but there's a slim chance of someone noticing her or her turning crazy and risking the entire operation.

>>25381170
Well, sabotage, data theft, bringing meds and food to the Vagan civilians and kicking Ezelcant in the nuts.
>>
>>25381231
Kick Ezelcunt in the nuts? No, no. C-4 enema! Or a dozen det-packs around his cryobed. But, yeah, military sabotage and data theft should be high on the list of priorities.
>>
>>25381170
>>25381141
>>25381067
"Go talk to Dad, It'll take me WAY to long to explain. However I think you'll be best defending the colonies since your not a fan of the Feds and stealth isn't your strong points when you just want to kill stuff...where is Travis?"

"Oh he'll be here in a day or two. God damn weeaboo. He's spent more money on anime and merchandise then he has on his own mobile suit" Rysis shakes her head.

"Anyway, I'll be getting back to what I was doing so...could you leave?"

"Alright, I'll give you and your girlfriend some private time. See you later! Dirky!" Rysis bounces away as you shout after her. "She's not my girlfriend!"

Now Yurika is on the floor laughing, obviously finding your Aunt hysterical instead of psychotic.

What would you like to do now Dirk? Check back on the Genorider testing? Or do you have something else to chat with Yurika about?
>>
>>25381429
Nothing left to talk to her about. Go check up on those riders.
>>
>>25381392
You know what would be really fun? Stealing the Vagan Gear. Some of the supplementary materials say that it's actually a pre-AG machine, not one the Vagans built themselves. Which would explain why SID can combine with it(but let's not talk about the final episode's shenanigans). Anyway, it should exist already. Nothing like stealing the final boss for ourselves two decades before Ezelcant can use it. Of course, this could just end up with us fighting it a generation early and getting our ass kicked, so we shouldn't make it a priority. But wouldn't it just be the biggest possible "fuck you" we could deliver?
>>
>>25381429
"It's not funny Yurika, okay it is, but not to me. I'm never sure if she is teasing me, flirting with me, or just luring me into a false sense of security so she can stab me."

Then go check up on the Genoriders, if Rena is free take her with us so we have someone to bounce ideas off of.
>>
>>25381429
"What are you laughing about? Knowing her, she'll probably call Flit and tell him how we're engaged or something like that."

>>25381485
Is MaG still aboard the Crusader? She could probably use the SENTINEL system to activate that thing and convince it to follow us around.
Or she and SID have a friendly chat when we meet, and SID considers her his grandma.
>>
>>25381577
Ma G's been moved to the Camelot's systems. But that's the ship Jake's taking, so he should be able to route her through if he needs to use it.

On a related note, with the Camelot in dock, is MID going to see his "mom" and explaining that he has a new brother? Because that, and the resulting call to CDACE, could be really adorable.
>>
>>25381645
But Jake isn't taking the Camelot with him, the Camelot is staying behind.
Maybe he has a dummy AI that can work while MaG is away? He probably created a few during the last 25 years, and the Camelot is the Geth prototype.

As for MID and MaG, that would be adorable. One big AI family messing around.
>>
>>25381645
"Dear, it appears that MID decided to add another member to our family."

"SUBJECT MID IS TOO YOUNG TO BE A FATHER. DEPLOYING KIDNAPPER DRONES TO GIVE A STERN TALKING TO."
>>
>>25381722
No, Jake said he was bringing the Camelot, too. I guess he's going to bolt it to the timeship or something.
>>
>>25381771
Pretty sure the Camelot stays behind with Mellis to protect the colonies, while Jake is taking Rena, Desil, Carlos and the rest of the 8 to Mars.
>>
>>25381429
Get the Camelot to either ship over a pair of 180s for experimentation or send the data for them. Then go check on Rena-I mean the Genoriders. Maybe Carlos got over his pun crisis?
>>
>>25381803
Looking at the last few threads Jake says he's taking the Camelot, but the greentext crew roster says it's staying at the colonies. So I'm not sure where it's going.
>>
>>25381858
Jake's leaving the Camelot at the colonies and taking Desil's team on the reality-raper.
>>
We dead?
>>
>>25381577
You shake your head as Yurika continues to laugh.
"What are you laughing about? Knowing her, she'll probably call Flit and tell him how we're engaged or something like that."

Yurika stops laughing and her face turns bright red. The expression is nothing short of priceless and you quickly fall on your ass and start to laugh as well.

>>25381453
>>25381506
>>25381806
You decide to check up on how the testing is going, sending Dad's Crew a request for a pair of 180mm Heavy EM Riles before running into Rena and Asemu as they drive in on their bikes.

"How are they?" You asked, excited as any nerd would be.

"Pretty awesome. No problems so far outside of a few tiny things." Rena comments with a grin.

"Transformation function seems to be a little slow, but it's not going to end up crushing anyone" Asemu gets off his bike and walks over to you. "Hey Dirk...can I talk to you?" he whispers.

"Dirk, want to chat for a drink? All that riding made be pretty thristy besides It'll be a while before we see each other..." Rena gets off her bike and wipes the sweat off her brow.

Well Dirk? Do you want to go with Rena or hear what Asemu has to say?
>>
>>25382785
Looks like it. Maybe Crosswire went off to eat dinner or something.
>>
>>25382875
Talk with Asemu it seems important. Though the temptation is great.
>>
>>25382875
Let's hear Asemu first. It seems important.
"Hey, Rena? Go on ahead without me, I'll join you in a minute, okay?"
>>
>>25382875
"Sure thing Rena, I'll join you in a bit. Just want to check a few things on the bike quickly. Meet you in the (Location)."

Then take a close look at the bikes and look over any data on them while having a private chat with Asemu. See what the kid needs from us.

We'll go to Rena right afterwards and spend time with her nerding out and slowly realizing that dating isn't just for other people.
>>
>>25382875

I'll be over in a minuite Rena, I've got to tell Asemu something before it gets too messed up. Shouldn't take too long"
>>
>>25382875
It's alive!

Talk with Asemu first, then go meet up with Rena.
>>
>>25382875
"Sure, Rena, just give me a second to download the performance data and get these squared away. I'll meet you at the bar. Hey Asemu, you wanna help me with this?"

And then we ask Asemu what's got him so worried. It's not that he has a crush on us, is it? Because we told you, Asemu, what happened that Christmas was a one time thing. We were really drunk, okay?
>>
>>25383015
His sister isn't bad looking though.
>>
>>25383224
Is she around in this dimension? Or is Yurika the only sister Asemu (unknowingly) has?
>>
>>25383288
I wouldn't be surprised if Emily and Yunoa exist, but they've been coerced by Leviathan to work for them.

"Just a minute Rena I need to do some stuff. We'll meet in the cafeteria OK?"

"Sure, just don't go running off and disappearing on me..." Rena leaves the hanger and you turn back to Asemu.

"Listen if this is about what happened last Christmas, I swear it was by complete accident. Scarlet spiked my drink..." You admit, scratching the back of your head.

"What? No I want to go to Big Ring with you. I know you want me here...but I want to go to Big Ring. I have some...unfinished business I've been meaning to do for a while and I may not get the chance to do it after this."

What will you do Dirk?
>>
>>25383338
"Mind sharing what this business is, or at least giving me a vague overview?"
>>
>>25383338
"Unfinished business? I...see. Alright then. Just...try to stay away from Akito for a bit. I've finally gotten him to loosen that stick up his ass and fighting with you would probably shove it right back in."
>>
>>25383338
"Hey, man, I'd love to have you around. But you're better off asking dad about that, considering how he's in command of this operation.."
"Just... Are you okay with hanging around Akito? I managed to talk some sense into him - don't ask how - and I really don't want you two starting another catfight."
>>
>>25383360
>>25383392
"Unfinished business? Maybe...it doesn't involve Akito does it?" You ask.

"No, it doesn't involve him"

"Then what does it involve?"

"It's something very private Dirk, I'd rather not talk about it with anyone..." Asemu looks away from you, obviously not leaving it up to discussion.

"OK, I guess since Aunt Rysis and probably Uncle Touchdown are coming we can bring you along...just don't do anything crazy, OK?"

Asemu nods and you leave for the Cafeteria.

You find Rena is sitting in her usual spot, waiting for you at the table you two sat at last time. She's just finished getting some tea and has begun to sip it when you walk in.

"What was that all about?" She asks.

"Asemu wanted to tag along with us to Big Ring. Nothing serious" You say, looking to see what the Cafeteria has to drink.

What do you want to drink? More importantly what do you want to talk to Rena about? This could be your last time together for quite a while.
>>
>>25383815
Have a coffee. You're supposed to be the lazy one, but you've worked your ass off these last couple of days.
Accidentally bump into the table or something silly, but try to play it cool, like nothing happened.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting. So... What did you want to talk about?"
>>
>>25383815
Get some orange juice and chat with her about how the testing went.
>>
>>25383815
Get some coffee, engineers are fueled by coffee.

Start by chatting about engineering stuff, how the bikes worked, improvements we can make to it and various projects we've been working on. After bouncing ideas off her for a bit and offering input on her Mobile Suit and any ideas she has we'll change topics to the more personal, important stuff.

"Rena, I don't really know how to do this sort of thing, in fact I'm terrible at it. Engineering is so much easier than this, you can just tinker away, and it always makes logical sense. You plug stuff in, look at the physics, and it just works. And now I'm rambling and not getting anywhere near what I'm trying to say.

What I'm trying to say is this. I like you, you're clever, witty, fun, sharp as a tack, and a damn good pilot and I really respect that about you. Also, you're not afraid of grey goo scenarios which is equal parts terrifying and alluring. So, uh, do you want to go out some time after we're done saving humanity? Get some coffee? Go to a park? Do the dating thing?

Did I just stick by foot in my mouth? Should I curl up in a ball of embarrassment? I might need to do that. I just didn't want us to go off in separate directions without having a chance to say this."
>>
>>25384041
I doubt that Dirk is ready for such a move. He's still the cool aloof kid, and he probably doesn't figure that this is a date.
And if he did, he'll probably lose his shit.
>>
>>25384092
I'm not saying this right now is a date, it's saying do you want to go on a date, eventually, in the future, maybe, or should I just go away and hide in a corner. Deadlines can get people to act a bit more promptly than they would otherwise.
>>
>>25383815
"So, um, excited about the infiltration trip? Should be pretty trippy. Dad keeps claiming the ship he's going to use violates causality. So... that should be a fun experience. Not at all existentially terrifying."
>>
>>25383815

I'll back coffee.

"It's hard to believe yesterday started so normally."

Its been 2 days right?
>>
>>25384200
Yep. To think our greatest problem was making a game server in our basement...
>>
>>25384200
When it rains, it pours. I'm starting to think the Crockers are cursed. Did Jack have to deal with shit like this when he was a teen?
>>
>>25384358
Probably. Instead of Vagans he was probably chasing after pirates and investigating pre-war tech.
I kinda want to see Gen-0, where we play as Jack and have the young Woolf Enneacle as a pupil.
>>
>>25384466
That could be pretty cool. Dealing with some hotshot kid who joined the military out of boredom, teaching him to fight in a mobile suit instead of just play games with it, knocking some sense and a responsibility to protect people into him. Showing him not just how to be a soldier, but to be a man. "Portrait of a Young White Wolf" could be a fun miniseries.
>>
>>25384534
(Huh, that would be an interesting little side series. I'll keep it in mind in case we need to leave the main story alone for a little while or something)

>>25383956
>>25384041
>>25384200
You decide to get coffee and sit down taking a sip before saying "It's hard to think yesterday started out so normally"

"Yeah I'm surprised your handling all of this so well. I mean, colony attacked, best friend turns out to be a spy, all hell has broken loose and now you have to leave home. How do you handle it all?" Rena asks.

Well Dirk?
>>
>>25384700
"I build things to stop everything from falling apart." Straight and to the point.
>>
>>25384700
"I build stuff. Building stuff keeps me sane. Most people panic when they feel events are out of their control. Building stuff makes me feel in control of myself and what's around me.

As you know my Dad's an engineer, I literally grew up spending most of my time in a workshop, my first words were 'flux capacitor'. So I look at things as problems, and I know that if I throw enough science at something it stops being a problem. So I just look for solutions.

Granted somewhere down the line I'm going to have a nervous breakdown, but I'll burn that bridge when I get to it."
>>
>>25384772

only if his second words were 'Knuten Valve'...
>>
>>25384700

"Living with my family, you get use to it. Why this one time..."

Anyone got a good Crocker family story?
>>
>>25384700
"Well, this nice girl I met gave me a design for revolutionary nanotechnology, and that's really helped in keeping my mind off the drama."
>>
>>25384700
"I'm just unbelievably cool like that."
"Seriously, no idea. I guess that I just trained myself to be calm and in control all the time - and making stuff makes me feel calm and in control."
>>
>>25384822
That one time we caught our parents "LARPing" in the workshop right after a flight mission. Us and Scarlet ran away from home for most of a day after that one.

When Jake decided to make Gundam scale pancakes using a modifed DDOS rifle, and industrial amount of batter, and a giant metal sheet to act as the griddle.

The fact that both our Uncle Desil and our Aunt Rysis have both tried to kill our parents at one point or another.

Jake explaining the Birds and the Bees using engineering metaphors, it confused the hell out of Scarlet and made sense to us, we never looked at socket wrenches the same way.

When our parents regularly dropped us off at school in cutting edge Mobile Suits, making sure to kiss us goodbye in front of everyone.
>>
>>25384772

> Jake adding something to the pool so that it becomes jello. You ever swim in jello? Don't.
>>
>>25385020
Jake and Mellis are the most obnoxiously lovey-dovey couple. When eating dinner they feed each other, they switch between pet names every fucking week, whenever they see each other after being apart they hug and snog for at least 5 minutes, and they relish doing this in front of everyone.
>>
>>25384700
"I grew up being told stories like this. By the time my mom and dad were my age, they had dealt with mad scientists, insane cyborgs, telepathic warfare, and space pirates. I kind of always expected this sort of thing to happen to me at some point. Which is actually kind of sad, now that I hear myself say it out loud."
>>
>>25385084
I saw them more as being lovey dovey when they think no one is looking and being the classic combative couple when in public.
>>
>>25385084
"You know how my dad proposed to my mom?"

"Apparently, he was avoiding her like the plague for a couple of days, because he was scared shitless of popping the question. Yeah, Jake Crocker, afraid of something. And mom, being mom, got angry and confused and whatever. So, in the middle of some huge battle for some space station, she loses her shit, and begins yelling at him and threatening to punch him until he finally speaks with her."

"And he says that she should do so. She should come over and punch him. Keep in mind, they are in space, in the middle of a battle, and inside their suits. He stops the Crusader, she parks her custom Farsia in front of him. He opens the cockpit, she opens hers and rushes out to punch him. He gets out of the Gundam, gets on one knee and shows her the ring."

"'Mellis Gwendolyn Rosetta, will you marry me?' over all the comms. Then, absolute silence. She stares at him for a minute, and finally says 'Yes.'. And at that moment, that entire space station explodes."

"They stood there for about half an hour, and when they decided to come back to base, their suits flew in together, holding hands."
>>
>>25384822
"Living with my family, you get use to it. Why this one time my Dad installed a Vagan booster into his car and achieving flight. Then there was this one time Mom punched Uncle Carlos in the middle of his wedding because of his atrocious bad pun. Then there was the time Dad tricked Woolf into eating a video camera to see who is stealing his candy and on the same day Mom dropped military-grade goo-bombs on the house of some guy who pushed Scarlet. Then there was that time Dad explained the Birds and the Bees using engineering metaphors,I will never look at socket wrenches the same way and then one time me and Scarlet caught our parents "LARPing" in the workshop right after a flight mission. Us and Scarlet ran away from home for most of a day." You give some more examples to give Rena an idea of what you had to deal with.

"I've always been prepared for the crazy and impossible, so I wasn't exactly surprised when it did happen. It's what I expect to happen that scares me..." You let out a sigh and sip your tea.

"Like what? Exactly?"

"Like these missions going nose up, my Dad dying, my home getting vaporized and the Vagan's over running the Earth. Stuff that's easy to think of, easy to expect. The obvious stuff you don't know that'll happen for sure...but they aren't impossible, not by a long shot."

"Dirk..." Rena frowns and lays a hand on yours...

Now how do you want to approach things? You feel something for Rena. Maybe as a friend, maybe as something more. You know as much about relationships and love as you do...well you know a lot, but this crap is over your head.

What will you do Dirk?

When this is over would you like to see my workshop or get some coffee? We could build something? It might be fun in a horrendously nerdy way?

I'm fucking this up aren't I? I'm not very good at this. Sorry, you're amazing, I mean you're an Ace Engineer X-Rounder who isn't afraid of grey goo, and I'm nothing that special.

>>
>>25385674
"Sorry, I'm getting too depressing. Bad idea to speculate about missions we're about to go on going bad. I haven't had that much actually field experience yet, so I'm stressing over that. I've always felt kind of fatalistic because of my X-Rounder abilities. You ever felt like that after you were recruited? Actually, how were you recruited? I don't think you ever said."
>>
>>25385836
That time travel pass phrase may come in handy if Jake's mission goes bad. I get the sense that the timey-wimey ship would be something pretty scary to Dirk, considering how his X-Rounder abilities have given him a bit of a fatalistic mindset.
>>
>>25385925
Well, his fatalistic outlook shouldn't really be that surprising, considering how he probably had seizures and what not till Jake developed those glasses of his. And imagine what he could have done to his mother, if his powers went out of control for even one moment when she's around. Hell, he probably even caused her pain by simply being near her.
>>
>>25385674
Panic. Say something embarassing and/or awkward. Panic more. Speak in fragments. In that order.
>>
>>25385966
No, I meant literally fatalistic. Dirk's afraid of being unable to prevent the horrible things he can predict happen. Which makes sense, seeing how when he took off the glasses he could predict everything around him with no ability to change it. It's got to be a nightmare to be able to see just slightly into the future, but not be able to respond to it. Like being trapped in glass. So anything that messes with time, that implies that causality itself can just..go wrong, and he'll be unable to do anything about it, would be the scariest thing in the world to him. He could get everything right, save everyone he cares about, and see space-time unravel around him into some new nightmare scenario.

"Well...I was kind of raised to be like this. I come from a pretty prestigious military family. If your a member of the Zarth family you ether have to be a good politician, a good scientist or a good soldier. Since I sucked as politics I aimed to be a good scientist and soldier. I ended up becoming a soldier because of my knack for piloting and engineering. My parents would be disappointed if I wasn't anything less then a member of the special forces, but at least they aren't as bad as the Einus family, sexist douchbags" Rena shakes her head.

"So your family life basically prepared you for the life you live now?" You ask, curiously.

"Yeah, pretty much. My family may be harsh, but they only push me because they know just how much people can accomplish with hard work"

>>
>>25387283
"Well, I guess we were both pushed by our families to be ready for what's happening now. They might be annoying at times, I often just want my Dad to shut up against pancakes, but I love him anyways. I guess we both owe them a lot.

Imagine what a Zarth-Crocker would be like, they'd either end up utterly insane, the most competent person on the planet, or both.

That was stupid, I shouldn't have said that."
>>
>>25387436
AGE builder Gundams have safeguards in place to prevent them from being reverse engineered. Unless you're an idiot like Kio and give away the encryptions like candy, all they can really do is build a shallow replica that doesn't have the software it needs to run.
>>
First >>25387403 then >>25387415

So, Rena is basically nobility? I suppose her family arranged her marriage with some douche who's going to be Dirk's rival?

>>
>>25387528
Zabi family expys.
>>
>>25387478
Or find an Adele. Since appearantly you can reverse engineer the AGE-1 and AGE Builder wholesale from one.
>>
>>25387283
We will have to make Natora have it better in this timeline. Maybe we'll make it so she never gets pressured into joining the military, maybe we'll help her grow a spine. But we've got to do something to improve her character arc. She was just born last year, given her age in Gen 3, so we have plenty of time to shape her life experience to be a better one. Let's try to set it up so Mellis or Scarlet winds up an idol for her to look up to. She can be the third in the line of badass redhead ladies. Though the first to come by it naturally. Or some other means of giving her positive female role models. Whatever we do, she deserves better than she got in canon.
>>
>>25387573
Since when did that happen?
>>
>>25387587
Maybe she isn't born yet in our timeline. And maybe Jake and Mellis have another kid who's gonna hang out with her.
>>
>>25387600
It's a reference to the Treasure Star sidestory manga. Non-canon, but the ship Jake's described sounds a lot like the Treasure Star itself, so it might exist in this timeline. A Federation soldier gets sent back in time to before the war actually starts, and winds up reverse-engineering the AGE-1 from his Adele. Not entirely impossible, given that the Adele is just a stripped-down mass production AGE-1, but the fact that he builds an AGE Device and AGE Builder too is a bit weird. Apparently Ryuji Ryuuzaki is a technical savant.
>>
>>25387528
Considering how AGE politics are based on political dynasties (one family ruled the Federation since forever), they aren't going to like her hanging out with Dirk instead her arranged fiancee.
And that guy is probably some horrible elitist douche to whom Akito seems like a goddamn Saint.
>>
>>25387774
>Non-canon
Careful, that word is unusual when talking about japanese properties since they don't have canon and non-canon like we do.
It also starts alot of Gundam related fights.
>>
>>25387826
We're going to wind up dealing with Olfenoa's kid, aren't we? That would make for a suitable Ace Rival, given that his position would make it impossible for us to do our usual "kill or convert all possible recurring enemies" strategy.
>>
>>25387826
We can point out that our family pedigree has done more in 3 generations between us, Jake, and Jack, than his family has done in its entire history.

Yeah, I know the canonicity of the Gundam manga and light novel series installments are all sorts of debated. I'm still not sure if I should count SEED Astray as really happening in the Cosmic Era timeline, as cool as it is. But Treasure Star is fairly easy to place as not really counting, even without an official declaration of being non-canon. There really isn't a space to fit it into the world as portrayed in the rest of the AGE media.
>>
>>25387960
Dynasties that work their ass off. I don't really have a problem with the Zarths, they aren't lazy about it. But if she ends up having a fiancee who is a useless git, we will laugh at him.
>>

Hell, Asuno already is a dynasty. It's just one that's been trimmed back a lot by Flit being the only one to survive the attack on Ovan colony.
>>
>>25387993
>But Treasure Star is fairly easy to place as not really counting, even without an official declaration of being non-canon. There really isn't a space to fit it into the world as portrayed in the rest of the AGE media.
What? Even counting Daiki meeting Flit, since the Treasure Star's antics are generally separate, it fits in as happening concurrently just fine.
>>
>>25388069
We really need to set up some sort of area that we can govern.
>>
>>25388094
Except Daiki was at Ambat. And eventually traveled into the future and met Kio. Both of those seem like things that are hard to handwave away.
>>
>>25388177
There were plenty of people at Ambat. Just because we didn't see them doesn't mean they weren't there, they were just in a point where the action wasn't focused.
The time travel is abit harder, but not totally unexplainable. Maybe his father left a dairy on how he got pushed to the past and they figured out how to recreate it. Maybe the universe was trying to slingshot his father back, but since his father was gone it caught Daiki.
Seeing as this is Gundam, Bullshit X-Rounder Magic is also a perfectly valid excuse.

You say, not realizing the implications of what your talking about.

"Genetics is only half the battle Dirk." Rena states, stirring her tea. "You can have the genes of a super human, but if you are not raised properly then you will suffer both on a mental and emotional level, wasting a tremendous amount of potential"

"Wow, you sound like you have a thing of genetics."

"Well I originally intended to go into the field of genetics before I realized the people I would be working with were less interested in treating gene related diseases and more interested in bitching about humanity and plotting to create a race of people with superior DNA to humans, thankfully they failed to realize that you can't conjure genes out of thin air. I'm pretty sure all of them are out of a job now...what was that one assholes name? Yamato? I can't remember..." Rena shrugs and sips her tea.

Take a deep breath, and try not to think of all the ways this could go horribly, horribly wrong.

"I like you, I think you're amazing, charming, smart, witty, brilliant, kind, absolutely brilliant, and a damn good engineer and pilot. Anyways, let's move on. See how Scarlet's doing. Have we told Jake about sending Asemu to Big Ring with Dirk?

"Sure...on quick question before you go...are you engaged to be married to anyone?"

"Me? No not really. >>
>>25388971
Let's visit with Scarlet. Then we'll meet pirates and get back to work.
>>
>>25388971
Well, we should inform Scarlet that Asemu isn't going to be staying at the colonies. While we're there with her, the Crocker kids should take their finally-completed Gundams out for a test flight. Do we have any large enough salvage of the new Vagan armor plating to test the weapons on? And we should get her used to the Gawain's high thrust now so we don't have any surprises in whatever battles we have to fight as her.
>>
>>25389163
A test run with the completed Gundams is a good idea. Gotta make sure they're working right. Scarlet needs to get used to the Gawain's speed. We can start testing one of the 180s if we have time. Heaven knows we'll need some reliable artillery weapons soon.
>>
>>25389232
AGE is kind of lacking when it comes to weapons variety. The Vagans have a few specialized weapons systems, but mostly everyone's going for jack of all trades stuff that makes the mobile suits all seem kind of under-equipped. Are there any Federation suits, other than the various Gundam wears, that have a ranged weapon other than that generation's version of the DODS Rifle? And are there any Vagan suits that don't have a chest beam cannon? It all starts to blur together, making the grunt suits seem even gruntier.

"JAKE! I AM COMING FOR YOU!"

"Rysis? Oh, hi, listen, this is a bad time, Scarlet is putting on a play at her school, can we do this later?"

"Oh... Oh, okay, sorry, didn't know that. Can you send me a picture?"

"Sure thing."

"Oh God, look at her, she's so cute!"

"Travis, why are you going out with Rysis? I mean she's crazy and I mean seriously crazy, she has the hots for younger pilots, is erratic as can be, is going to outlive you, might stab you, is a known villain and terrorist, I don't think she's a good cook, half of her is mechanical, insults your hobbies, and doesn't spend a lot of time at home."

"Well, she's hot, she's very hot, she fucks like a tiger, I mean seriously those mechanical bits, I thought she was going to break my pelvis in a good way.

And she's remarkably cuddly once you get to know her."
