You are Sonia Reynard, Attack Wing Leader and Knight of the House of Jerik-Dremine! You command the Third Attack Wing, one of the elite units of the House, composed of fast hard hitting Cruisers, Frigates and a few remaining Corvettes. You and your Wing have gained a reputation for capturing enemy hardware be it through battle or negotiation.

Your ship is an upgraded Tenth Dynasty Royal Guard Cruiser you've taken to calling The Unnamed Guard. It's tough, fast and has twice as many conventional weapons as your previous ship but is more sluggish when maneuvering thanks to it's increased mass. Armor upgrades have removed the ship's weakness against Shield Piercing Torpedoes.

After the first three days of fighting in Operation Typhoon and a few more days of repairs, you returned to combat operations. Given the choice of three assignments you decided it would be best if you avoided the deep strike missions and concentrated on chasing down convoys and fleets leaving other areas. In the process three such convoys were almost entirely captured, including one with a Super Heavy Cruiser acting as a tow ship for smaller damaged craft.

The political maneuverings for ultimate control of the ship have only just begun and you already want to put as much distance from it all as possible.

With a few days for rest and repairs you've put your finances in order and ensured that 6th squadron once gain has afterburners equipped to all of their ships. Frigates have replaced a couple of corvettes in first and fifth squadrons.

Linking up with most of the House fleet you've now proceeded towards the last strong point held by the Warlords. Their massive shipyard is protected by a sphere of asteroid forts, all of which have been armed according to House Lat'tham specifications. Between the asteroids and the shipyard lie the bulk of the Warlord fleet. More than eleven hundred super heavy cruisers and their escorts are prepared to do battle.

Despite their numbers the battle was merely expected to be a hard fought one until they deployed their captured super weapons. You and your Commander already knew the Pirates had some of the powerful Veckron Torpedoes, you just didn't know there would be quite so many. The Admiralty also must have known but perhaps were also taken off guard by the numbers shown.

With this revelation the Faction fleets have halted at the edge of weapons range. They had already planned to lay siege to the fortress line, now you're just doing so for slightly farther away.

Your Wing like other attack units has been tasked with interception of ships trying to flee the area or enter the Warlord lines.

Before sending out some of your afterburner equipped cruisers to help allied attack units in other sectors you picked up a transmission from the shipyard.

"Th---is Ensign Gho---------vice ID 23-----R3Y. If any Faction ships can hear me, the Pirates have an artif------ormhole. They think it's fu----------tional but i--------ot. -----'re trapped and ------ know ----. I Rep--t th-"

Around the same time one of the enemy torpedo ships mysteriously made a run for the lines and jumped out before either side could intercept it.
Huh, wonder what that was about.

>Run the partial service ID through the members of our advance team.
The info does not match up with anyone from your team. It must either be a team from another House, Faction, or a false flag op on the part of the pirates.

After sending out your ships news comes down the chain of command about a temporary cease fire. All ships are ordered to maintain the blockade but not to fire unless the order has been rescinded. It's more than an hour before anyone tries something in your area.

"Detecting a few light transports trying to get through the blockade in our sector." Says Arron.

You send out a flight to chase down each one just in case. If they put up a fight your people will just need to get in close and tractor them.

"New contact, just at the edge of our sector... Medium Cruiser. IFF tags her as a mercenary starship Ruby Light... Holy shit she's charging a Veckron Torpedo for launch."

"A slow charge?" You ask.

"No."

Kavos rushes over and looks at the screen "She's moving to target the Warlord lines."

Looking at the distances and the speed of the Medium you're not sure many of your ships will be able to successfully intercept in time. Especially if you're to hold to the cease fire.

"Arthur, Rasi, intercept that ship and stop it from getting through. I'll try to get fire clearance from Command."

"Understood."
The two upgraded Vengeance types break off from the rest of the wing and drive hard for a point ahead of the larger starship. The sublight drives on both of them light up as the afterburners begin to fire antiprotons into the mix.

"Second and third squadrons, I want you in position and ready to assist our fast attack team if necessary."

[ Or, pursuit music of your choice here ]

While your afterburner pair fly off after the move a pair of your squadrons closer you have

"This is Knight Captain Reynard, I need permission to open fire on a Medium Cruiser that's about to break though. It has a Veckron Torp charging."

The Commander appears on your screen. "I see it, so does the Admiralty from the other Factions. Try to stop the ship without firing on it if at all possible, even if it shoots first. Keep this channel open Captain and I'll try to get you fire clearance."

You don't like where this is going.

"Arthur, I can't get you clearance just yet. Whatever you do, try to keep your crew from being irradiated."

Rasi isn't in as quite a good position to intercept the ship, falling in just behind it. Arthur pulls up along side and locks tractor beams onto the much larger ship. It's difficult going as Ruby light out masses each ship by about ten times. It reminds you of the time you tried to stop Wayward Treasures from escaping by ramming into her bow.

That didn't end so well.

Pulling in closer Arthur rams his ship's shields against Ruby's, all the while in reverse thrust. Rasi finishes catching up a second later and puts his engines in reverse as well.

"Even with the afterburners I don't think we have enough power to stop this thing sir." Says Rasi over the unit com.

"If we match speed close enough we'll be able to get under their shield, just try not to roll off."

"Yeah but what then sir?"

"I have an idea. Captain! You want us to block the launcher so they cant fire or try and spin it out of control with a PIT maneuver against one of it's Wings?"

Both of your pilots attack cruisers ram the shields of the Ruby again, trying hold perfectly still to one point on the outer defensive shell. Ruby's helmsman attempts to throw them off by rolling the ship. It's enough to keep them from getting through for a bit as both of your ships slide back and forth over the shield suffering several minor shield collisions.

The medium levels out for just a moment to change it's direction of roll back the other way. It isn't for long but it buys enough time for Arthur and Rasi to line things up. Both pass through the outer defenses then lower their shields to keep from accidentally bouncing off the hull.

"Starboard side!"

Both pilots drag their ships towards the right wing of the larger starship, occasionally scraping wings and phase cannon mounts against armor plate. Rasi takes position first, around the mid point of the Wing then Arthur gets into place closer to the outer tip.

"Now!"
Both max out their throttle, bow sections and cannons smashing into the wing edge. Because of their angle Ruby's bow begins to turn aside, even with the crew increasing starboard drive output and lowering it from those on the port side.

Once Ruby has turned perpendicular to the fleet line your people throttle down a bit so that the vessel cant just pull a 360 and fly away. It isn't over yet though. Sublight drives switch to reverse thrust and try to keep the ship headed towards the Pirate fleet.

It then that you notice another ship coming in from relative below. It's a heavy cruiser that looks like a bulked up version of the Endeavour class, massing about twice that of Ruby. It's also transmitting a Krath IFF and appears to be operating afterburners.

With the disruption caused by your people, the 2 squadrons you have waiting nearby could reach Ruby just before the Heavy cruiser does.

I was more afraid of the torpedoe suddenly going critical while still in the launcher. If our ships should have enough warning to get the hell away from the enemy in time, if something should happen, I don't mind sending our ships after them.
I'm in the minority anyway, it seems.
>>
>>25381233
>[X] Go after Ruby

We already sent two squadrons over, might as well make use of them. And while the Krath have generally been bros this situation is too hot to rely solely on them.

I'm just glad Ruby hasn't fired her conventional weapons at Arthur and Rasi yet. They are like, far too close for comfort to that ship.
>>
>Yes I've been on a Two Steps From Hell kick looking for music the past couple days.

"We're not taking any chances. Second and Third on me!"

Increasing throttle you nose down towards the ship and your pair of pilots as they try to keep the merc ship from resuming its flight. Your people seem to be rapidly getting the hang of ramming the larger starship, preventing it from turning the rest of the way around and getting a clear line of fire.

"Watch that radiation." Warns Arthur as Rasi gets too close and takes engine damage.

"I've lost one of the injectors Sir, but the rest are still good."

By the time you catch up Ruby is appraoching the edge of her weapons range despite your team keeping her from gaining much ground. She just has too much momentum built up.

"Grab it with tractor beams and tow it back towards our lines."

"They're reducing engine power and charging weapons." Reports Arron. Sure enough you're getting target lock indicators.

"Sonia, I think warhead is past point of no return!" Says Kavos looking between displays. "We need to stay clear!"

"Everyone pull back to maximum tractor beam range but maintain your locks."

Pulling up you see either of the larger turrets on Ruby light up, firing a faint wide beam outwards at your ships. After barely a second of delay a lightning bolt arcs outwards following the channel formed by the beam, hammering the shields of two of your cruisers. Damage indicator for both of them show damage to their weapons but not enough to completely disable them. Their torpedo launchers are still fine, as are the spinal mount weapons as they're protected by more armor.

"Arthur get your ass out of there. Those things only work at close range."

Phase cannon fire flashes out at a dozen of your ships at a time, likely hoping to add confusion to your retreat. It's not working .

"Yes sir, one thing left to do first." Arthur rams the wing of his cruiser into the leading edge of one of Ruby's wings damaging three phase cannon arrays in the process. Rasi attempts the same on the other side of the ship, clipping one of the larger aft turrets before getting out beyond the ship's shields. All together they took down the most dangerous weapons on the aft half of the ship. Both are hit by fire while trying to get out of range though, taking engine damage.

"Once they're no longer taking serious hits Arthur speaks up again. "Sir, neither of us should risk using our afterburners until we've been able to have our drives checked by repair crews. Those Lightning guns are murder to most of our systems."

It appears Kavos was right about the torpedo being past the point of no return. No sooner does the Heavy Cruiser get into tractor beam range than the warhead explodes. A bright bluish shock front expands outwards.

"Pull up!" you order the others, doing so yourself and putting more power to the engines. boy you sure wish you had afterburners on this tub.

The shock front catches up faster than you would have believed, sending your ships tumbling out of control. You and your old friend the seat restraints get reacquainted and displays dim for a few seconds before beginning to recover.

"Report."

"Inertial compensators took edge off of worst of it. Systems recovering. Shields mostly held. No serious hull damage to ships that lost shields, only EMP damage."

"How's that Heavy cruiser?"

"...survived. They are on surface shields now though. Smaller surface area than bubble shield. More aerodynamic."

"Good for them." You feel like you might have popped something non vital out of place but other than that you're fine. Next up you contact the command ship.

"Captain Reynard, I'm delighted to see you're still alive. And before you ask no you don't get the salvage rights to a ship that's been reduced to its constituent atoms, no matter how valuable those atoms may or may not be."

You shrug off that comment. "Are we resuming shooting yet sir?"

"Not just yet, the pirates are having their own problems."

As you help tow the more damaged ships back towards the rest of the House fleet you watch the pirate fleets. There must have been a holographic shroud up before because now you can see a ring large enough to swallow the pirate shipyard whole deep inside their lines. Zooming in there is the occasional flash of light from the ring structure.

"Internal dispute?" Asks Daska. "They picked a great time for it."

The type of fireball you've long come to associate with fusion reactors going super critical blasts a chunk out of the ring structure.
>>
Just after the explosion blue green light begins to emit from the center of the ring's open area. It flickers for only a moment. Its long enough for a tear into subspace to become visible before it fades out.
A few more explosions in the damaged area follow in quick succession before everything goes quiet.

"I have to admit that was anti-climactic." Says Alex over the unit coms. "I was expecting a much bigger bang."

"Thank you Knight Palaiologos but we already had one for today." you tell him.

"I think he was just covering for Mike since he isn't here." points out Thal.

For the moment the cease fire seems to still be holding.

Shallan Space
Navigators Guild Deep Space Monitoring Command

Another day with business as usual. The Navigator's guild didn't pay well for monitoring crews on one of these stations. Nobody did really, but members of the Shallan Military and those of a few other Factions saw the place as a quiet place to be stationed. Far, far away from the pirate raids that had ventured into the Pandora Cluster or the Centri Cluster of late. Occasionally there would be Hune stationed aboard as well, mostly civilians as the guild didn't want deserters or mercenaries on the station.

The main control room was filled with enough consoles and station for fifty crew easily. Half were empty, with all but a few of the filled ones being near the center aisle so crew could talk to each other without having to use personal coms that might be monitored as part of their contract. It never said that there couldn't be conversation on the job, just that they'd monitor wireless traffic.

A red circle popped up on the main display that covered the walls of the room drawing the attention of most of the shift.
"Hey, we have a sensor buoy offline."

One of the few humans present leans back in his chair. "If it's 447 just ignore it. They installed a bad cooling system on the last sweep so it shuts down for twenty minutes every day. We have the other ones nearby covering."

"No, it's buoy 890. I'm filing a maintenance report. As long as Commander Thakima looks at it in the next hour it should be in time for the next shift to replace it. I'll file it as urgent."

"Good thinking."

One of the blue skinned Shallan females speaks up. "Hey, I just lost one of mine... and another one."

"Oh man, if we lose one more the alert is going to go off. We'll be on defense condition for the rest of the day."

Everyone in the control room by this point are watching the displays intently, waiting to see if anything else happens.

>TSTG, might I request a top-down view of the Vengeance-type hulls, sans wings? Just curious as to where the B and C types have those extra bits on the sides.

Sure. The B forward and side views are obviously my attempt to borrow much of the design from the Homeworld 1 concept art.

The original Vengeance type is just a simple cylinder with fins on it and engines on the fins. At first they weren't even sloped near the bow.

The C was an attempt to borrow elements that I found desirable in both the Original and the B. Mainly the aft facing launch bays but also flattening and broadening the main hull slightly at the same time. It also isn't as stupidly bulky as the B.

Parallel to the direction of flight.
Which I'm aware makes no sense. Honestly If I hadn't been so into the space opera style ship planning back in the day all of them would have the engines at the bottom of the ship.
On ships like the constellation light transports and Y-type freighters it makes sense because they land on a planet's surface.

Vengeance Types do not land, except on low gravity moons or in ports with docking arms. Like those docking clamps they had in Mass Effect at the Citadel and elsewhere.

Not long into the cease fire all of the Veckron torpedo launchers on both sides were taken off of active charging. Too much of a chance that one of the weapon might go off accidentally or need to be fired.

After twelve hours the pirates seem to have things approaching a level of control on their side. Any signs of infighting have stopped and there is some shuttle traffic.

Arron, bored starts ticking off things going against the Pirates.
"So, their gate is busted if it ever worked at all and we still have them surrounded. Most of their power base has been smashed, though they have enough to rapidly rebuild if they escaped. The longer the siege lasts the more ships we can call in to strengthen it. What else?"

"We hopefully eliminated the main cloning facility." You add. "The clone troops we sent behind enemy lines were supposed to take care of that so with luck the pirates can't decant them a million at a time now."

"If they did not betray us again you mean." says Kavos.

"I was never entirely comfortable with that plan, hence keeping the heavy strike team aboard until they were gone."

Some time later you get a message from Captain Saputo.

Well, that's be unexpected.
"Any idea why - What's changed?"

"How far do you think we might pull back? I'd hate to let the pirates forces escape and fester in the areas we've cleared out."
>>
>>25389127
>What's changed [their minds]?
>>
>>25388912
"The whole fleet, or just the Dominion forces?"
>>
"Say again?"
"As in leaving. Departing this local group for places elsewhere."

"WHAT?!?" This draws the attention of everyone on the bridge. Which given the extra gunners is quite a bit now. You still have to get used to that.

"Any idea why - What's changed?"

"I don't know more than that. The only details that are really getting around is that every House is making preparations so that there's enough fuel for a pair of week long FTL hops. Apparently they don't want to conduct a lot of resupply until at least that point."

"Then who is going to stop the pirates from spreading out again? I'd hate to let them escape and fester in the areas we've cleared out."

Arron tries to get your attention. "Sonia, you're going to want to see this."

Checking the displays you see a Dominion built Battlecruiser leaving the pirate shipyard and headed for the Factions command ship. It's lacking the add on nacelles filled with drive plates that normally weigh down the versions used by most Houses and get them reclassed as fast battleships. Escorting it are six very new looking ships. Two K-Type attack cruisers, two Vengeance Type C and a pair of Royal Guard Cruisers you assume must have escaped the fall of Lat'tham space.

"I bet you five hundred they all have tons of SP's on board." whispers one of the gunners.
"No bet man."

Over the next few minutes the Battlecruiser makes a steady approach, passing through an opening made in the lines then pulls along side a docking point near Dream's command tower. Must be an ambassador.

The Warlord fleets and armies may yet remain but seeing that ambassador going aboard you get the feeling that one way or another this war is over.
Somehow that doesn't make you feel any easier about the future.
>>
>inb4 not-tyranid invasion
Clearly high command is shitting it's pants and wants this over with so we can all deal with a bigger threat.
>>
>>25389542
So something so bad has happened that the pirates have even opted to negotiate?

Why do I get the feeling we won't be able to start our salvage hobby for a while thanks to this? Also, we hope we get our new ship during our trip to wherever we are.
>>
Was -not- expecting this standoff to end like that.

>>25389739
I'd say since the Rogue Neeran, who retreated "beyond Shallan space" oh so long ago, and have been working with pirates behind the scenes till now, have just backstabbed, double-crossed, or somehow broken ties with the Pirate Warlords (Indicated by the wormhole gate seemingly not working) and begun their comeback attempt.
>>
Well the pirates have their collective balls in a vice given how the wormhole failed and they have nowhere to go. So they will be willing to negotiate. They probably don't know about the new threat but they will soon with the diplomats arriving.

We still have a shitton of wrecks and assorted parts we need to dig through. But it looks like things are escalating quickly so we may not have much time. Hopefully our new ship will get here soon, but the salvage barge and those other ships we have stored away will need to wait.

If the thread is still here after (3?) 4pm tomorrow I'll switch to world building. Questions, comments, feel free.

I know I haven't posted a bunch of stuff on the wiki that people have asked for. More background on each of the Factions being the leading one. I'll be working now on filling in the gaps more on those and other things.

It would help if you could colour code the main factions/races or something. I still have trouble telling them apart sometimes.

Awww, that ship would have made such nice salvage. The chance to interrogate the crew might have been helpful as well.

I hope we go back to Dominion territory now. Just so we can show off our titles and our lametta to that Knight Errant order that didn't want Mike.

On the other hand we will probably have to fight off some sort of massive unexpected alien menace. Who probably have a techadvantage on us. For the record, we should inform our financial advisors to sell our armor stocks as soon as possible. Either the war is over and armor prices fall, or we confront something that likely has weapons that pierce through what the company produces anyways.

I could really use some help finding that particular bit if you know where it is. I've skimmed a few threads but cant seem to find it.

Four years in peace time is standard. Under normal conditions you've now exceeded the time you're supposed to be at the front before before being rotated out.
Word going through the fleet is that your next planned deployment is to only be temporary.
>>
>>25399428

Actually, I'm wondering whats going to happen with all the ships and worlds we've recently secured. If I recall, we have some favor remaining with the Rovinar. Perhaps we could use some of that to get a hand with relocating some of the more choice salvage to more secure areas? Combine that with possibly securing a few of the transports under our personal ownership, we might be able to get a small salvage company going to improve our income!

You have a point. Shouldn't delay just so that a larger article can be finished first.

Major Races/Species of the Factions

Human/Terran
Originating from the planet Earth (despite conspiracy theories saying otherwise) Humans struck out into the stars over two thousand years ago. They make up the majority of the population of the Terran Alliance of Confederated Systems but are not confined to those worlds.

Humans can be found in nearly every part of known space and are adaptable to many environments, though less so when it comes to atmospheric differences.
They are suited to slightly higher gravity worlds than most of the factions. Worlds they cant adapt to or terraform are often settled with underground or sealed habitats.

While certainly far from the most numerous species they are so widely spread it's nearly impossible to determine their actual numbers.

Most stereotypes place them as explorers, scientists or soldiers.

>Could we get a recap of Sonia's skill and how various faction see her?
Skills as follows

**Hand to hand/CQC**
-Legendary
-Special Forces
-Military Training
-Basic
-Civilian
Sonia= Basic/Military Training
Tending closer to Military levels Sonia has lacked time to get really good at this sort of thing. Thankfully when wearing power armor and with a weapon that can cut through most armor this skill gets a noticeable boost.

**Weapons proficiency**
-Legend
-Marksman
-Infantry Average
-Basic
-No training
Sonia= Infantry Average
A good shot but noting spectacular. Modern HUD targeting provides a definite bonus.

**Starship Piloting**
-Elite
-Veteran
-Skilled
-Basic Training
-Untrained
Sonia= Skilled/Veteran
While Sonia has seen more combat than many she still only has a few months field experience. There remains many tricks and tactics she hasn't encountered yet that may prove troublesome.

**Starfighter Piloting**
-Elite
-Veteran
-Skilled
-Basic Training
-Untrained
Sonia= Basic
While a good pilot Sonia lacks the sort of experience in fighters necessary for survival in a prolonged dogfight.

**Shuttle Piloting**
-Elite
-Veteran
-Skilled
-Basic Training
-Untrained
Sonia= Basic/Skilled
Thanks to aggressively pursuing simulator flight training Sonia's skills at shuttle piloting have come up. The only real problem was with specialized atmospheric thrust vectoring systems not found on all shuttle designs.

>how various faction see her?

Most Factions would just see her as yet another corvette or cruiser squadron commander. One among many especially given the number of Houses taking part in operations.
Rovinar and House intel see Sonia as a viable asset, though one with a tendency towards explosive results after the incident with the John Avery. The latest action hasn't been taken into account.

A few dozen Houses are aware that you were one of several officers who took part in the operations on Gesaur. This makes you a potential annoyance to be watched.

House Sulos knows next to nothing about you. This will likely change when they realize one of their Knights gave you vital military information they were hoping to sell to the highest bidder. But screw them, they don't even support the Expeditionary fleets.

House Posat sees you as a vital investor, or alternatively a sucker for tossing money at them. On that note you've received a message from your accountant that you're not really making much of anything in terms of profits off that investment. This may be a result of the poor economic condition House Posat is in and will bear watching.

For the sleeper fleet created by the Factions Alliance you have been labeled as a person of interest. While you are hardly the only person to stumble upon such ships its one hell of a fluke that you encountered the Endeavour. Even more so with the other ship you found being that far off the corner of the map. I mean seriously what the hell.

I'm actually surprised there isn't more buzz from the other players regarding these newfangled lightening guns. Assuming they can be used to knock out systems, we could use them to disable ships without completely neutering their engines, which would make our commander and Logistics a lot happier.

Assuming we could make them small enough, the thought of lightening gun and afterburner equipped Corvettes in our wing makes me giddy. The fast corvette frame seems like it'd be the perfect platform for these weapons.

Hune

A near human species the Hune make up close to the entirety of the Republics population having long ago crowded out all others in their cluster.

The Hune are well known to have made extensive use of genetic engineering several thousand years ago and maintain government approved breeding programs even today. Medical researchers from other species and Factions believe the modern programs are intended -and may even be necessary- for them to maintain genetic diversity.

Hune can survive a wider range of atmospheric conditions than humans and Dro'all can, almost as much as the Kavarians. Nearly all of them tend towards the higher end of human speed, strength and intelligence capability, though not all. Most exceptional or well trained humans can still outclass them.

They are often referred to as 'elves' by Terran civilians because of their pointed ears and other physical differences.

Characterized by xenophobia towards other species those those working beyond the borders of the Republic for long periods will either adapt or learn to hide it.

It has been suggested that they may have borrowed elements of Shallan DNA, though this seems unlikely and the Republic has flatly denied it.

Shallan

The last near human species, Shallans are a blue skinned race that share a startling number of similarities with Humans and Hune. With few exceptions they tend towards being 25% shorter than Human norms and have faster reaction speeds.

Those similatities do no apply to their eyes. Shallans have excellent natural night vision, better than that of any other Factions species. Still they cant see in as wide of a spectrum as some Dro'all can.

The Shallans were the last of the Major Factions to gain spaceflight capability.

>You've heard a few uncreative derogatory statements calling Shallans "midget blue elves." Obviously it would be best if you not repeated that around them.

The downsides of the PPCDG are that it has short range, takes a lot of power and is high maintenance.

>>25400336
>>25400512
Keep in mind you do have some money coming in due to all those ship captures.
Hell, with all of the wreckage it might be cheaper for the House to just give you several of the busted ones.

Getting something to eat then I'll get to work on the skill levels.
>>
>>25400647
>Reminder, most of that was the Rovinar making an agreement with you acting on behalf of your House/Wing.

Would relocation of salvage to areas farther from the Warlord power base for the House not be a wise action for the House? If a few wrecks that Sonia owns just happens to be in there with the rest... seems like a bonus!
>>
>>25400647
>>25400713
We should also remember that we are about to be heading out on another mission and depending on what we are told that favor might come in handy.
>>
>>25400647

I actually have another question on salvage. If the House were to give us a SINGLE ship capable of salvaging and we privately crewed it, what would happen if we gave that ship coordinates of ship graveyards we found on duty? Do those graveyards belong to the House and prevent private salvage attempts, or do we simply cut the House in on parts/ships we recover?

Assuming we get security clearance for our crew so they're cleared to subcontract on such things.

Could work.

To be fair, we were just fighting pirate scum. Was the outcome really in any doubt? Just wait until we get into a real war.
>>
>>25402593

I suspect that they won't stay pirate scum for long anymore. The warlords have enough fleets, ressources and most importantly veckron torps to become a true faction if they give up on their pirating ways. Considering that we are leaving without a fight i guess there will be a treaty.

This treaty will turn them into a legit faction, it will probably slap some fleet restrictions on them and prohibit them from raiding the other factions.

Soon we won't be allowed to call them pirates or warlords anymore, they will become the most respected gentlemen of the Southern Reach League.

I doubt it would be considered a conflict of interest given the way the war's been going.
A better question is do you want to invest in such companies within the House, the Dominion, or Civilian companies in general. DHI can only produce so much a year and it's reactor production can't meet the demands of the entire House Fleet, not with Assault corvette production ramping up.

>how various Factions see Sonia

Most Factions and Houses know of her in some capacity now thanks to the situation in the Coup attempt.
Rovinar and House intel see Sonia as a viable asset, though still one with a tendency towards explosive results.
Intel from other Houses and Factions see her as a person worth being watched. The Terrans have Sonia flagged as a person of intrest that should be monitored as much as possible.

Powerful people in the Ruling House and the Seven know your name. This can be good or bad.

Ferrigold the Fat has taken an intrest in House J-D after your convoy raids. As someone who also survived the Yineput Ballroom fiasco thanks to you, the House has been given a small but notable discout in trades with him.

House Sulos is aware one of their Knights is familiar with you and provided your House with assistance they wanted to charge money for. They've gotten over it as they're more worried about certain groups pressuring them to support to the Expeditionary fleets.
Like other Houses in their position they've been the target of punitive action by Knight Errant groups trying to force them into the war.

House Posat still sees you as a vital investor. Their economy has stabilized though it will likely remain weak for years to come if they continue to rely on short term sector sales and income from armor production.

The Factions Alliance have... sent you a message. It's a short one, thanking you for the assistance with the Vieona and simply asking if you're open to possibility of work beyond the House. You don't have to respond right away.
>>
DHI and the Royal company are the only local ones IIRC. Where are GE, Iratar and Aries based? Am I forgetting any?

The Royal one probably isn't publicly funded. We should invest heavily in DHI since that benefits the House directly.
>>
>>25403622
>Am I forgetting any?
You got all the big ones.

DHI belongs to the House but is unique in that it's one of the older companies around and has quality closer to that of a larger manufacturer like you'd see in one of the Major Houses or a Mega Corp. The Royal shipyards produce equipment primarily for the Ruling House and anything sold elsewhere is as a huge mark up.
Most Houses try to keep a small manufacturer of their own in the event other Houses blockade them and prevent supplies coming in from elsewhere.

GE is one of the largest civilian manufacturers and has a reputation for tough reliable drives. They're decentralized and have manufacturing plants everywhere.
Iratar is the state owned Mega corp that operates the Kavarian shipyards. (Or more accurately the Corp owns the state.)
You now have Admiralty level equipment access with them which means access to their best most expensive stuff.
Aries as you know makes fast ships and engines but they're expensive and in limited numbers.

Tarketta is or was a human corporation and is a competitor of GE. Their equipment is considered to be on par with Iratar's non-military parts. They're assisting the House in operating the shipyard in the Smugglers Run.
>>
>>25403356
So the Factions Alliance want to know if we want a job or at least help them out a little. I have to say I am quite interested in what that might entail.
>>
>>25389542
>The only details that are really getting around is that every House is making preparations so that there's enough fuel for a pair of week long FTL hops.

If we are indeed going to have weeks of down time / time skips I recommend getting some of those neural mapping programs we've been wanting.

maybe offer to pay for the mapping of some of our more 'valuable assets' (Heavy Marines, Bodyguard, Body double, Surviving Injectors, etc)
>>
>>25403356
For the Factions Alliance we should probably ask them for more information in what they would want us to do. Currently we are still doing missions for our house unless of course what they had in mind was around where we are headed.

Are we the only one who got the "invite" in our wing?
>>
>>25403356
I for one am very open to the possibility of working with the Factions Alliance.

Would like to spend at least some of our next available downtime working on unarmed hand-to-hand and hopefully get into identifying and using improvised weapons and techniques for facing armed enemies while unarmed. Gotta get our situational awareness up for next time someone pulls guns in a ballroom.
>>
>>25403356

It seems that groups like theirs have been helping the Ruling House push their agenda back in the homeworlds without getting directly involved.

Close to a day after the cease fire is first called word start to come down through the fleet that an agreement has been reached, and more importantly why.
You get on the channel with the other ranking Knights and officers of the House.

"It's been confirmed. The Neeran have begun an attack on Shallan space."

"Another incusion like at the end of the Faction wars?" Asks Saputo.

"No. They've brought larger ships this time and more of them. Some worlds are already under planetary assault and the Shallans are being pushed back. The home fleets from each of the Factions are attempting to mobilise but other than small response fleets all of the Expeditionary Forces are here in South Reach. The defense fleets are not prepared to be moved several weeks distance so we'll have to relocate and quickly."

"And the Pirates?" you ask.

"They're hammering out an agreement. The slaves and cloning technology will be returned and the Warlords will retain control of this nearest galaxy but not the rest of the cluster. They'll keep everything else they've stolen provided they accept contracts as mercenaries and allow observers aboard their ships."

Kinda been expecting this invasion on the part of the Rogue Neeran, especially since the events on the Vieona.

Very surprised we didn't have to fight the pirates, thought they were too far in bed with the Rogue Neeran - wonder what went sour ((and how we managed to influence the situation enough to earn "Fate Burner")).

Invasion is happening sooner than I'd have thought or liked. Wonder how many of the "Just in case this exact thing happens" sleeper ships have been retrieved.

What kind of engines does our guard cruiser have? It's an older ship but if it uses Royal engines that would be a pain to fix.

It was probably the Neeran's plan to have the factions and pirates veckron each other to bits in preparation for their invasion. Dodged a bullet there.

You stop yourself from outright cursing.
"God do I hate party crashers."

Your superior contemplates this turn of events. "Am I the only one who feels that this, letting the Pirates live, is going to blow up in our face eventually?"

"Most likely." Replies one of the carrier Captains. "The question is can we afford to pass up their help?

None of you answer and reluctantly you break the silence and try to change the subject. "What sort of Intel do we have on the hostiles?"

Winifred punches up some scan data and sends it to each of you.
"Sensor data was sporadic. They're using a combination of jamming and long range cloaking fields to disguise the strength of their forces but it's much more effective this time. The core of their fleets appear to be Neeran super heavy cruisers acting as carriers for planetary assault craft and small starships."

Looking at the grainy image provided it seems a bit like an elongated egg shape, with most of the sublight engines built into the wider end. There are what look to be phase cannon turrets on the outer hull at regular intervals and on the data you've been given there are dozens of spheroid shapes flying out of launch bays along the sides. You're certain they're fighters until you realise the size of the carrier. They're launching corvettes.

Additional data pops up on their corvette design. It largely matches older bits of into on them from the Faction Wars. It's made up of a large sublight drive powering a forward plasma weapon surrounded by fuel tanks, maneuvering thrusters and a belt of armor. Definitely minimalist. Their plasma weapon is thankfully more on the scale of fusion cannons in damage rather than Republic ones. Or they were back then.

>Wonder how many of the "Just in case this exact thing happens" sleeper ships have been retrieved.
This was just one of about ten things they were put under for. Most have been recovered by now, though a few remain.

>wonder what went sour ((and how we managed to influence the situation enough to earn "Fate Burner"))

Butterfly effect. There were several things you did, or caused other people to in turn do. Your strike team helped a great deal though.

Speaking of which, there's a message in your inbox from a Robert Ecord that's been routed through from Tourta. In it he suggests taking a ship that can catch up to the fleet later at FTL (like the EX-K which he doesn't know is busted) and meeting him at a vacation spot. Each vacation spot listed on Tourta forms a map that matches pulsar locations in a nearby dwarf galaxy once scaled appropriately as previously planned. The only thing added were times for rendezvous.

What ship do you plan to send to pick up the strike team? Or will you ask the Commander to take care of it? She wanted the weapons after all.

>how does our fleet see us.
The House Fleet, Dominion fleets or the expeditionary force?

If the latter two its a bit of an "Oh, her."

If the former, some of your fellows are concerned at your being the "great devourer" constantly bringing in salvage and hungering for more. Slightly intimidating.

>What are the internal politics for Wienfrieds position?
She would much rather stay here and help get the administration of the new House territory better under control. But that's not going to happen given that most of her fleet is being redeployed.

If you're trying for her job be advised you'd spend a lot more time as a desk pilot if you were successful.

Turning back to the open coms you tell the Commander that one of your corvettes got a bit lost and needs to be picked up, preferably by a fast ship. You'll send her the location in a bit.
It means you won't be getting the strike team back for awhile but then again maybe they really are enjoying a day off?

In a few more hours time the Fleets begin to get their deployment orders and jump out. Squadrons of Pirate warships are escorted by twice their number of Dominion and Terran Corvettes along with starships from other Factions.

Launches away from the nav stations will be staggered so that waves of ships can act as FTL com relays in mid transit, allowing communications with most of the fleet at the same time.

I didn't expect to need this pic quite so soon.

Epilogue continued.

Pushing the engines 3rd wing arrives at the Nav station just early enough before your scheduled departure that you're able to get in a memory imprinting session. With a few weeks in transit you'll have plenty of time to practice both the things you've picked up and some hand to hand.

The Terran Alliance and the Republic are supposedly making ready for refuling operations at the two nav relays most of the fleets will be stopping at. Well if somebody wants to try for a repeat of the Lat'tham refueling operation you've got your trusty Plasma pistol here ready t- "Shit!"

"What is it?" Asks Linda.

"They still have my Plasma pistol!" Checking the navigation readout you're already into the space between galaxies now, no way to turn back. You'll just have to wait it out for most of a week and hope they've been picked up by a ship fast enough to catch up.

Your sleep is fitfull at best but you are able to get enough to operate through the day and get in your training. The nightmares are still a problem. The most common being you getting killed in some manner or another.
In one you're aboard the EX-K after it was hit by plasma cannon fire. Rather than getting a vacuum suit first you decide to head straight for your quarters to get your power armor. Opening the door you're engulfed by a wall of flame.

You've mostly been ignoring it before now thanks to the sleep headsets. Maybe you should talk to a doctor about this?

The days are tiring with the reduced sleep but you made it through training back home even more tired than this. You can do this, just get some coffee and work through your training regimen.

>or do we simply cut the House in on parts/ships we recover?
This, though there's nothing really stopping you from trying to steal salvage. The House would like to claim all of the salvage in systems they now control but that's next to impossible. What they can do is try to restrict or tax trade options when it comes to those that won't play ball with them.
Also they'd lose a lot of respect fo you if you did just start taking anything you wanted out of there with no contract drawn up.

Clad in your power armor with a marine weapons specialist in power cell armor backing you up, you test fire the X-ray laser. Getting the settings right are tricky, especially when you turn on your camo or used sustained bursts. Anything from improper handling to overheating because it wasn't put back together just right after field stripping can cause problems.

"How do these even survive in the field?"

"This is actually an older model with replacement parts in it sir. Mr Nexi is trying to repair the originals and the current ones aren't as good a match. They should be ready in a few more days."

You keep up the practice with it over the week and soon you're getting the hang of it even with the lower grade parts still in it and mild fatigue being a pest to you.

The hand to hand combat training does not proceed quite as well. You're getting better at the basics and your practice with boxing helps the footwork. Still its slow going.

Their territory was divided up into occupation zones by the larger Houses. Once Yineput III was taken resistance crumbled and soon much of the House surrendered. Their surviving nobility has been found and rescued from the Warlords, along with most of the cloning equipment.

It seems that their leadership made a deal with the Warlords once captured. They were being held by the Pirates for blackmail to help ensure the coup attempt would take place. The pirates would use the captured cloning facility to create more Lat'tham clones. Once the coup attempt was successful and the House had become the next Ruling House their originals would have been set free. There would have been a non agression pact between the warlords and the Dominion, forcing the other Factions to find much less direct routes to enter South Reach if they wanted to continue the war.

It's well into your second week in transit. The quick stopover at the last relay was eventful for some people. A few of the ships in the Warlord fleet decided they'd much rather leave and go into hiding in the local area where they could then start conducting raids again later once things had cooled down.
In response the old High Warlord, who looks to be at death's doorstep, showed that he's still hanging onto control of his fleet. The deserting ships were quickly destroyed without the need for intervention by the other Factions.

While officially the designation for the Warlord forces is still the South Reach League other names like "South Reach Mercenary Guild" are starting to crop up along with some not fit for pleasant conversation.

Letters to the family went out as soon as you hit the NAV REP 2 relay so that's out of the way. Nothing much at home has changed with Mom and sis since before the big fleet showdown. There's been a suspicious lack of your sister getting into trouble lately so who knows what that could mean.

Filling out reports in your office is good for killing time. Especially with all of the after action reports from Operation Typhoon. The House wants to know about everything that you salvaged, bombarded or destroyed. Everyone else was just happy with your reports on what systems had been struck and approximate damage done.

Then there's the medical reports you wanted to go through checking for potential radiation exposure from Ruby Light. There are some suspected exposure cases among some engineering crew on Rasi's ship but the bulk of them seemed fine.

Cant remember what we agreed on before.
>Do you include the locations of the ships you stashed in deep space in your report? Or will you and your people head out and pick them up later when on leave, taking them for yourselves?

>>
>>25421419
>>Do you include the locations of the ships you stashed in deep space in your report?

Voting this. If we keep them for ourselves, we'd have to shell out from our own pocket to repair the damage we did, and the House would be curious to know where we suddenly got some nice cruisers.
>>
>>25421419

I believe we agreed upon mentioning them for House salvage, but never got around to it in-theater.

A thought has struck me... Sonia is one of a very small number of living beings to have encountered our new foe in close quarters fighting. We need to get together everyone we can from that fight, including the Terrans if possible, and get a doctrine together for dealing with their abilities. Those bastards will be devastating in boarding actions, and we're going to need anti-tank weaponry.
>>
>>25421513
Shallan fusion gun seems likely to do the job, someone should try to get them to share the design and manufacturing process with the other factions.

Also with regard to fighting Neerans in close quarters, we may want to get our hands on a set of medium or heavy power armor, as the recon stuff probably isn't gonna cut it in a straight-on fight. Plus then we could maybe integrate a power source/heat sink for the fusion gun like that Neeran we fought had.
>>
>>25421513
Goddamn. With everything that's been going on, I nearly forgot about that fight. It took every trick we had to take that thing down, and there was only one of them!

>>25421577
>recon stuff probably isn't gonna cut it in a straight-on fight.

To be honest, I always saw boarding actions and recon armor adventures as a hobby for Sonia, just like her obsession with salvaging stolen ships from pirates. This Neeran invasion isn't going to be like the fun we've had in the South Reach. This is going to be a Real War, so our ass is going to need to stay in the command chair where it belongs. If we do don power armor in the future, it's going to be when we're being boarded, and only then it's so we can escape while the reactors of our ship are being rigged to blow.

Any medium or heavy suit we could get would be better served in the hands of someone who'd actually use it regularly. If our Marines aren't currently decked out in the best gear we can possibly find, we should work on that instead.
>>
>>25421577
Well the best way to fight them is: Sniper, Traps, Remote Bomb. And obviously anything that brings the hurt from very far away.

Our Recon Armor is nice in that if we are not ambushed by it we can keep away and snipe at them, without presenting a target.

The X-ray rifle ought to prove ok for that. We might want to consider a large caliber Mass Accelerator sniper rifle with specialist ammunition.

The problem is we wont be able to bulrush defenses like we have done thus far and as we seem to prefer, and will have to switch over to setting traps and doing ambushes from afar and using meat shields with weird orders to confuse the telepaths - Sonia can play mind games too.
>>
>>25421643
>If our Marines aren't currently decked out in the best gear we can possibly find, we should work on that instead.

>>
>>25421643
There is a reason Sonia has the very natural adage "Psycho!"

Its something we have been building up for quite a while, from the time we had the first opportunity to boar a ship, and consisted even with our childhood.

Ah those were the days. A small flight on patrols, like a space version of the Aussie Sea Patrols and us almost always taking over the boarding party.
>>
>>25421419
Tell the house. In fact, it might be fun to (s)troll over to the quartermaster or whoever the heck is in charge of sorting out the mess we make and telling them ourselves that there are still more pilfered ships to be found.
>>
>>25421643
>>25421679

Well it looks like we need more explosives and explosive training, scopes and stealth training and other such specialist training for our troops.

We have time on our hands. If only we could get some simulators on some ships of our wing. We could have 24/7 training without risking stuff. This way we wont have any more Infantry/ Marines. No sir. They are all going to be either Marksmen, Medics, Techs, Driver/pilots, Heavy Weapons or Explosives Experts.

I really want our Space Station Back.

Does someone want to add that to the R&D list? It's rechnically research and while I have made a note of it my files have a tendency to wander.
There was another item last week someone suggested for an R&D project as well.

>If our Marines aren't currently decked out in the best gear we can possibly find, we should work on that instead.
Your Marines are currently decked out in the best gear you can afford, and even then only because your House has made a deal regarding front line testing of experimental Power Cell armor.
>We shall not rest until every single person in our wing has been issued power armour.
Be advised the maintinence on those can be troublesome. For every suit of power armor it would be a good idea to have 1 Maintinence Technician. It took awhile for Mr Nexi to pick up an apprentice so that you'd have people to look after both yours and Ecord's armor.

The Power Cell armor that the warlords built is cheaper in nearly every way but was designed and built to be as rugged as possible and easy to maintain. You still need someone who knows what they're doing to keep it in repair, but your techs aren't messing around with micro fusion reactors and their fuel source(s).
>>
>>25421938
>Your Marines are currently decked out
Is that including weaponry? We'll probably need to start looking for heavier ordinance in order to deal with the Neerans PITA power armor.
>>
Well, i think you should all hold your horses. For all we know the Neeran we fought was some kind of super spec ops knight. We can't make assumptions on the equipment of their line infantry. Judging from the fact that their ships don't seem to be that much more advanced than ours i do not think every one of their infantery will be that much more ahead of us either.

Far enough that they will be a pain in the ass, that i am sure, but not far enough that every freaking soldier is wearing a power armor equivalent.
>>
>>25421643

I agree that Sonia needs to stay in the command chair where it belongs in this Real War.

On the other hand, we -did- pick up that nice young lady that can use our power armor. Having a set of say, medium power armor wouldn't be a bad idea in the event we do have to put her and our marines aboard something.

Or we could get her a recon armor + cloak like ours and have a partner in crime when we have to suit up.

Speaking of that woman we plucked from the Infantry, how did she do on that Super Heavy with our armor?
>>
>Speaking of that woman we plucked from the Infantry, how did she do on that Super Heavy with our armor?
Playing it safe most of the time, though she was able to sneak up on a few enemy positions to ambush or flank them for the Marines. She's capable enough and brought the suit back without any damage. She still needs more experience over all and is reluctant to get into melee range.

You decide it would probably be best to file the locations of those ships now while you're making the full reports. Given good condition most of the ships you scattered about are in it shouldn't cost much to repair them, meaning you'll be getting more cash from the House when they're salvaged.

More forms come in including one from House Security requesting you take a lie detector test regarding the death of a private investigator you turned over to the Commander. Looking it over apparently the part where your presence was requested was originally supposed to be mandatory. It must be a lower priority now.

An incoming transmission gets your attention before you can look into it further. It's Svidur.

"Greetings! Your people managed to escape with their prize. I believe congratulations are in order."

You thank him.
>And probably kill him if he had something to do with this new shenaniganry.
"Did you have any part of the ceasefire, ships trying to get us all killed or this new invasion?"

"Goodness, and not one minute into our conversation either. No, or I do not believe so. Though I did help your Knights identify the gate being used to create an artificial wormhole. From the way things ended I assume it didn't work as they'd hoped. Just as well.

>>

"You're welcome."

>What can you tell me about their ships and capabilities?"

"The other Neeran, their corvettes are fast, maneuverable and do not lack for weapon options. Some are cheaply built, ferried into battle on their city ships or by smaller carrier craft the size of your battleships and battlecruisers. Others have faster than light capability. I'm uncertain what improvements they've made to their weapons. Often they would fire large guided balls of plasma which are difficult for larger ships to evade, or a more focused beam more like your plasma or fusion cannon weaponry. If they've run low on fuel they can switch to merely firing a phase cannon.
The larger ships mount heavily armored turrets which use the same weapon as their corvettes. Battleships carry four turrets and have impressive shielding. Similar sized carriers will deploy sixteen corvettes.
I have no way of knowing how many their city ships might carry if they've been completely converted over to military purposes."

>How much did your associated have with the abrupt end of the Republic civil war?
"We did what we could to place diplomatic pressure upon both the Government and the Rebels without getting involved. That was made clear to both of them early on. We did send an ambassador to the Rebels if only so that we could assist in any negotiations between the two. It proved handy. The Factions also tried to convince both sides to negotiate but it fell on deaf ears for a long time.
A group of pirates quite separate from the Warlords began attacking targets on both sides of the civil war. I understand they stole or captured a great many ships before both sides tried to wipe them out. The fact that such a small group could do so much damage and go unchecked because the Republic's defenders weren't unified was a wake up call."
Svidur puts on a bit of a smirk. "I understand most of them escaped with their spoils, but not to South Reach."

>You Pirate! You did not just challenge me to a who can get more ships tally did you?
>Grin
You just challenged your alternate universe self. Or whoever intel found for the job when you decided to go hunt down a cloaked Rovinar ship instead.

So, what is it the Rogue Neeran actually want, anyway?

If I remember correctly, we know they split away from Neeran space and that (at the request of the Neeran [Governing Authority] that lies within Terran Space) the Terrans began to pursue the Rogues. I am a little fuzzy on the ensuing details.
>>
"Where to begin?

My people, the Neeran who currently reside deep in Republic space, migrated there approximately 4000 years ago. Give or take a few centuries. We've lived there in relative peace but have tried to remain distant from the other space faring races and cultures. We do not want to unduly influence anyone or in turn draw unnecessary attention towards us.
The best way to do so lay with helping the Republic and using them to wall off any who might look for us. Helping to end their civil war was necessary not just for our protection but to hinder the warlords as well.

Our city ships are expanded in size to meet our population. This is carried out at regular intervals and isn't especially disruptive. We plan them out long before hand to be sure transportation and power systems can accommodate the growth periods. Some expansions are larger than others but even the largest oldest city ships don't progress beyond a certain size.
Then we simply build new ships for the extra population and begin the cycle over.

When the Republic faltered and nearly fell in your Faction Wars we started building ships, warships, for the first time in a great many cycles. We were prepared when ten years later the Republic entered the Second Faction War and asked for our help. We sent our warships and they gave us their best weapons to help equip them.

And then we lost one. Destroyed with nearly all hands when not one but three Mega class ships rammed it head on at full acceleration.

After the battle was won we pulled our ships back to help guard areas which had already been captured. This was seen as acceptable, we had already contributed greatly in the opening phases of the offensive. The loss of life aboard that one ship had shaken the morale of our remaining troops. The Republic was happy to finish the remainder of the war with just the Terrans and Rovinar for support and for a time the people of our forward fleet were left to their own devices."

If they use minimalist corvettes as effectively fighters... does that mean they have smaller numbers of actual fighters?

Fighter swarms might end up being a key component to victories over these bastards, launching massive clouds torpedoes at standoff range.
>>
>>25423593
Also, fucking up corvettes.
>>
"And this is where the official story diverges from reality I'm afraid. What you may have heard is that the some of our ships left, heading into what is now Shallan territory and began to operate on their own.
That report is... inaccurate."

"In what way?"

"The raids were conducted by Neeran but they were not our people. You see not all Neeran share our philosophical viewpoint. Long ago those of us with with similar beliefs left our home territory and over a period of several hundred years made our way to the Republic."

"And those that remained behind?" You ask.

"Do not share our point of view. Or did not four hundred years ago. They are also far more numerous than us. When our warship was destroyed on the far edges of the Pandora cluster the rest of us knew immediately. There was a detectable signal. We've theorized that a scout ship operating on the edge of our kin's territory were likewise able to detect it.

Since then they've been searching, both for us and those potentially under our sway. Their previous incursions were reconnaissance in force. Now they're serious. Shallan space and the Pandora cluster will likely have to be conquered for them to strike at the Republic.

As long as we exist we're a threat to them. The same can be said of your Expeditionary Fleets, I have no doubt that's why they tried to destroy them. The Factions would never sit by and allow a vital trade hub like the Pandora cluster to be occupied."

>>25423905
Well....that's not good.
>>
You're stunned into silence for the moment so Svidur continues.
"None of this is right of course, leaving you to fight our battles for us. Very convenient mind you but not right. We'll raise our fleets and assist you but that could be seen as just as damning an act. A sign of collusion or guilt by association. Mark my words this will not end well."

You receive a small download.

"Long range Cloaking fields are the one technology our people have an advantage in. We use ours to disguise ships as part of natural cloud formations in nebulae. Theirs can only block out light and were much more limited in range before now. Now they can extend theirs by several of your astronomical units. Still nowhere near ours in range but an improvement. Supplemented with jamming and it will be very hard to find and engage their ships on your terms. Your most powerful electronic countermeasures should be able to penetrate the fields at a distance of 100,000km. It's not much I know but it will have to do for the moment."

>Any additional questions?
>>
>>25424625
I can't think of anything at the moment. We can always get in contact with him in future, right?
>>
>>25424625
If anyone sees that anon from a few weeks ago who said we were investing too much into ECM, tell him I have a hat for him to eat.

Anyway apologize to Svidur for all those times when we were plotting his untimely demise
>>
>>25424625
Ask what is the best way to salvage one of their smaller ships as I'm sure we aren't going to go for crazy and try it on a world ship.
>>
>>25424920
>We can always get in contact with him in future, right?
"I'll leave you an address where you can leave a message but it could be some time before I can respond."

>>25424972
>Anyway apologize to Svidur for all those times when we were plotting his untimely demise
The old Neeran laughs. "You wouldn't be the first. I was actually rather concerned you might draw that rather impressive pistol on me when I exposed you plan."

>>25424982
"Intact I presume?" He thinks for a moment. "You would have to steal it out of dock to ensure the weapon and drive systems weren't irrevocably damaged. They're small ships. Fortunately they only have a crew of two or three."
>>
>>25425492
What about their fighters? With such minimalist corvette designs, do they use individual fighters or simply rely on strong PD with their larger ships?
>>
>>25425492
What kinds of power armor do they use? Do the often board enemy vessels?
>>
>>25425492
>You would have to steal it out of dock to ensure the weapon and drive systems weren't irrevocably damaged

This brings up another concern. At some point we or our allies are going to be boarding Neeran ships. What can he tell us about their layout, internal defenses, and anything else that would be helpful?
>>
>No Sonia, WE are the Rogue Neeran
oh boy, much worse than I thought.

Especially since now the Neeran are coming in force and the friendly ones don't seem to have much in the way of offensive tech.

I sure hope the Sleepers and Terran/Factions Alliance Neeran specialists have been working on ways to beat back this menace.

"You know, last time they used the tracking plasma balls but dialed up the diameter to maximum. Very difficult to evade but next to useless against ships with shields. They do have starfighters as well but prefer to save them for planetary assault work. Quite capable interceptors. And small too. Almost similar to the Terran Needle fighter but with three engines moved into the main body. As far as I know, they lack an attack bomber equivalent."

<-Pic related Neeran starfighter. This is an old image, I haven't updated it in quite awhile.

>>25425651
>What kinds of power armor do they use?
"Armor, yes. That isn't power armor though, not really. They're physically capable of moving the same weight normally found in your heavier power armor with little effort. Though they've apparently made other upgrades over the years if it can radiate heat from weapons fire into nearby objects. What was the other thing? Repulsor Gauntlets I believe they're called. They never had those before either and may have picked them up from the Warlords. Though I cant promise the reverse isn't true."

>Do the often board enemy vessels?
"Ours yes, they could fit the corridors. Rather surprised one of them went aboard a Terran ship. If they have client races they've brought into their empire boarding attempts could be a concern I suppose."

>>25425883
>This brings up another concern. At some point we or our allies are going to be boarding Neeran ships. What can he tell us about their layout, internal defenses, and anything else that would be helpful?
"The layout of their ships have long diverged from that of ours. As for internal defenses they're mostly geared towards detection and containment. A suit of Recon power armor would be able to get past most internal defenses but if you passed too close to one of the crew you would be detected by them. Mind you they likely know of this by now. I have no way of knowing what other measures they might have to fight intruders."

I'm calling the thread here. I will not be running a game next week. When I resume it will probably be more world building for a few threads as I get things in order and actually get around to putting up more wiki articles.

You normally run sessions over the course of several DAYS. A vacation is deserved. Thanks for taking time out of your life to run this quest for total strangers.
>>
>>25427314
Very much seconded. Thanks Tstg.
>>
Were there a couple research projects that never got added to the list? IIRC we had two more ideas, using repulsor gauntlets to launch hand grenades out of the users palm in an accurate arc. And that two section arm mounted mass driver for our power armour.

I think I may have tried to add them to the research list on the wiki but I couldn't find the right page. The wiki really needs an index.

Thank you TSTG.

Your Efforts are by now for me a Staple of /tg/, just like the Battletech Generals. You deserve a Vacation.
