It's early morning - the sun isn't even up yet, although it'll be in a few moments - and for the first time you're not even waking up wishing you died in your sleep. Not even the smallest twinge of a hangover, and you remember having a bit more red wine while Tomoe Mami gave you that haircut you were so eager to get.

She blushed at this, smiled, and then placed a kiss on your forehead. Telling you to get some rest while she cleaned up.

She must have left after doing so. Your file is still on your lap, open where you'd been reading it last. Mami had taken off your jacket, though, and had draped it on you like a makeshift blanket.

...Well, comfortable as you are at the moment, you can't help but feel a bit twitchy. You've...you've got something to do today, right? Something important? Just can't seem to put your finger on it, annoying thing.

You plug that in and nuke what's left of your Mami-made dinner - your stomach grumbling all the while as the scent of syrup-soaked pancake starts to waft from the little oven that could.

...You're actually tempted to finish the plate off right here, right now. But a promise is a promise.

The oven's bell dings, and you take the plate back to your chair, placing the now-warm ceramic back onto your side table. You sit back down, and glance at the still-sleeping form of Midori, making sure that she's not yet awake for what you're about to do - and it's then that you take hold of the rim of your shield. Pushing against it to turn the entire iron plate one hundred and eight degrees to the right, forcing the suddenly-shrieking gears to lock into place.

A heavy metallic click, the crunch of gearteeth crashing together, and time comes to a dead stop. The world, as always, loses its color - reduced to a dull cast-iron gray. Silence fills your ears, along with the sound of your own breathing, and your own blood pulsing through your own veins.

The moment you realize something is wrong - terribly wrong - is the moment that the world disappears. Leaving you sitting in your chair in the middle of a flooded, ruined Mitakihara. Bodies, corpses everywhere, some facedown in the mud and muck, others looking up to the sky, their faces permanently frozen in horror. Not one of them whole - each one torn apart or dismembered to some extent.
