/tg/ I have a problem.

My paladin tackled the BBEG lich out the window, and now he's bitching because I made him fall.

wat do.
>>

For the record I'm dming and the paladin is a party member.
>>
Drop him

I laughed heartily

I get it.

I've already let go of three players and I'd rather not fall back on old habits though.

Tell him that you don't think he understands the gravity of the situation.

Just make sure their expectations for in-game consequences remain grounded in reality.

Sounds like a possible That Guy to me. What kind of player just drops out of the party like that?
>>
>gravity: making paladins fall since before existence

Call a personal foul for the harsh tackle and send him back ten yards.

That should be good for another 2d6 of falling damage.

Well it sounds to me like the parties moral standards are plummeting.
>>

I'm telling you, morals in the whole region are experiencing a downturn.

Wouldn't it be Lawful Gravity?

I imagine the player was pretty downcast. How did the party feel when he dropped out?
>>
>>25335175
I hear they were actually pretty down with it.

Let's not allow this discussion to descend into an argument over technicalities. The topic has very deep philosophical meaning, especially against backdrop of a fantasy setting with objective morality.
>>
>>25335225
Maybe the paladin wasn't regarded very highly
>>
>>25335287
I'd think that any who would have witnessed his fall would have looked up to him, and then down at him as his actions took their toll.
>>
>>25335371
The Lich at least would likely have been struck with a sinking feeling, although the party had low expectations of him.
>>
>>25335468
>>25335371

Well, how would a good DM deal with fallout of this sort of situation? Can it be salvaged and recast into something awesome, or is the best one can hope for just picking up the pieces and hope that things don't deteriorate any further?

I love this whole thread.
>>
>>25329296
Op could you give us a better break down of the situation?
>>
>>25335269

Nah I'm pretty sure it would be lawful evil.

Lawful because of the natural laws and all that.
And evil, because gravity is a soulless killing machine of raw torment and destruction.
>>
>>25335918

I think it's been grossly mishandled. OP took an outset with great potential and then just threw it out of the window.
>>
>>25336014

Sounds like burden of guilt would be rather heavy in this case. But had you considered that divine grace can make your spirit soar?
>>
>>25336014
I am dissapointed you can't get down with gravity. Gravity is Lawful Neutral, it may be harsh, but it brings everybody down, because it is the Law we need to keep things on even ground.
>>
The paladin really should have been on the down low as to the kind of fate that befalls such lofty heroes.
>>
I think I like /tg/ the best when it just decides to make puns.
>>
Is the city going to prosecute? Or are they going to let the defenestration rest?

>kinetic evil

I shouldn't be laughing this hard, why am I laughing this hard!!!
>>
>>25335936

I'd like this as well. OP, just when did the whole event start to take a dive?
>>
>>25336106

You have to find the right window of opportunity.
>>
Was it a lot of pane?
>>
>>25329296

I've heard this tale a lot. I think it was twenty stories.
>>
>>25336210
They released an omnibus of it recently. It took too much paper and everyone already had the books so the business's profits plummeted
>>
>>25336134
We usually have our heads in the clouds but sometimes we take the plunge.
>>
When it comes to fighting liches, nobody gets down to it like paladins. They are very condescending to the undead but tend to be rather two dimensional characters.
>>
>>25336378

I think it's all the pent-up rage Paladins tend to accumulate due to living by a code.

All of it had to eventually break out and get in the open.
>>
>>25336428
Would you say they were stuck up? That they needed to be a little more down to earth?
>>
>>25336456

I didn't say that. I'd say most of them sign up precisely because they want to make the world a better place with a hands-on approach. I'd say that's down to earth enough. Certainly more so than your average cleric who would rather lay the groundworks through sermons that would inspire self-restraint and self-improvement.

But when all's said and done, they both carry a burden that weighs them down heavily. I would not be surprised when, on occasion, they decided to weaponize it by picking it up and throwing it at someone.

It would not even be necessary for ideals to shatter.
>>
>>25336533
I'm not sure the paladin was really the uplifting sort. It seems he'd fallen in with the wrong crowd or else he wouldn't have been dropped into such a situation.

It's hardly surprising then that he lept into action to make the lich take the fall.

Ugh, /tg/ puns about paladins falling.

wanting this thread to have any form of gravitas was a pretty tall order
>>
>>25336680
You could probably benefit from lowering your standards. /tg/ enjoys kicking a man when he's down too much to have high expectations.
>>
>>25336752

That was a low blow. We all know that vast majority of /tg/ enjoys above all else the joys of having moral high ground and admiring those who are even higher. It's why paladin and paladin/fall threads are so popular - everyone knows they have their shortcomings, yet they look up to their crystalline paragon of virtues.

If only more were willing to break through their shell and take this attitude into the wide world as well.
>>
Whenever players bitch about paladins falling I always sigh. The best solution is to hit the pavement and just work toward your redemption.
>>
>>25336842

But how do you regain your lost standing when you've hit the rock bottom? Unless you live in a progressive society, the barriers in upwards direction are insurmountable. How much good can you do once you fall from grace? I don't think it's fair for a person to pay for one mistake for rest of his life. Although I suppose there's always the possibility of the divine power uplifting the poor soul back into service.
>>
>>25336914
You call yourself a paladin, and you earn the right to call yourself that by how you act when things aren't looking up. Pick yourself up off the ground and fight for yourself and what you believe in. It won't be easy, it'll be like walking across broken glass. But as a paladin you have to suffer through the highs and the lows.
>>
>>25336988

I suppose you are right. After all, they do get their powers from on high through virtue of faith, it's only natural that they would press on against all odds. And should they hit a glass ceiling, they just keep pressing until it breaks or is lifted from them.

And if it's not, well, at least they know they've done what they could to redeem themselves from the gutter.

If he didn't make a plans for how he wasn't going to die or those plans fall through... he dies. In a blaze of glory. But he dies.
