Rolling out of the small bed you were provided with, you decide to find Ling Yi and thank him, both for disobeying orders and for taking in refugees last night.

Spotting a soldier as you exit the isolated room provided to you as a monk, you quickly learn that his captain is taking breakfast and had requested to see you as well. Not wanting to let an opportunity pass, you grab your teapot and a small bundle of tea leaves, and follow the directions the soldier gave you.

Stepping into the Captains quarters, you bow deeply. "It is good to see that the virtuous rise early, even when they have been battling blazes all night Ling Yi" you praise the man.

"I did not ever expect to hear myself being called virtuous by a monk, please come and sit and share food with me" Ling scoffs slightly before extending a polite offer.

"It may be impolite of me to ask, but..." Ling Yi begins as you start to prepare tea "I have many questions Master Maro, I barely recognized you as a monk last night, when you passed through the gatehouse I noticed that there was damage to your clothing and finally you returned to me from a direction where the fires had not already spread following a seeming caravan of women entertainers... I was made a captain because I was observant, I must hear your story".

"... She had a fitful night Maro, she was brave when she spoke to Ling Yi, but Gen Xiao Ren thinks it was all she could manage. I that when you returned into the house of white tiles she thought she would never see you again. She clung to me like I was a surrogate for you."

You remember that Pan always had a fierce temper - in many ways worse than your own. It was always safer to wake her with the smells of cooking food and drink than it was to try and coax her out of bed.

Hunger numbs fear as well and you suspect that there's a lot that in her too. Preparing food and drink, you hear your sister begin to stir... you decide to wait and let her wake on her own as you continue working on the few things you remember she liked to eat.

"... Maro? Is that, really you" she whispers with some incredulity.
"Yes Pan it is, come and eat. I would like to hear about how I found you where i did"

Poking at her food in a subdued manner, she starts to explain how your mother Sho had finally found a good match for her and intended to marry her off. The solemn listless way your sister tells the story clashes with your memories of her as a bright, happy child. Pan tells you that she was not even given the name of the family who she was to be married off to. The journey went well and she was excited at the prospect of travel, nervous at the prospect of marriage (fifteen is somewhat young for marriage in the fire nation)... and then raiders attaked the ship, killing all the crew in front of her... the raiders recognized the house insignia upon her clothes and decided to take her to lao len. Pan insists that she wasn't mistreated saying the pirates knew they could sell her for more that way.

Knocking on the door you enter and stopping Ming Puar who thinks you're here to speak to Pan again from leaving, you all take seats.

Okay

You make a few requests for grooming supplies from the soldiers and ask Lily to run a small errand purchasing a perfume for you. You set about sterilizing the tools borrowed, shaving, cutting your hair to proper length and dressing in the appropriate manner.

Pan sits and watches you the whole time providing a strict reminder of Rokans lessons of etiquette. When you err (which suprisingly you do not do often) Pan quickly points it out and you correct it. Lily returns with the scent you requested (Cinnamon and Oak) and watches in amazement as you transform from destitute beggar monk into a proper nobleman.

Stepping back into the barracks, you return the items from the soldiers you borrowed them from... and they barely recognize you, when they do a look of pure shock at your transformation.

When Ling Yi sees you he looks more shocked than even his soldiers, bowing deeper than befits his station towards you. You gather your immediate companions : Ming Puar, Pan and Lily and seek out the House of Fire-Upon-Snow.

As you enter the streets, crowds part for your group. It takes only a short journey to Fire-Upon-Snows house and the steward quickly hurries you into one of fire-upon-snows lounging rooms. A small selection of pipes and tobacco's are brought out for your perusal, as well as a large amount of applepears, Ming Puar takes one of the pipes and pan recommends a tobacco for her, while Lily delicately peels an applepear.

Fire-Upon-Snow finally makes her appearance, in clothes suggesting that she's done nothing but relax since buying out the local stock of applepears.

"So the Monk has turned into a Nobleman... You tricked me that day in the market" Fire-Upon-Snow begins.
