Hey hey hey! Let's have some more VALKYRIAN MERCS QUEST!

Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Valkyrian%20Mercs%20Quest
Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/A6Q0TxtS

Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles

You are JAGER STURMFUHRER, leader of the fledgling mercenary company DEMONS OF RANDGRIZ. In addition to fighting Imps for money and vengeance, you have your own private mission to hunt down Karla, your former fiance who sided with the Imperials and destroyed your home.

You've arrived in the Federation nation of Albion to help defend it against a possible amphibious attack. However, your boots barely hit the deck before you were assigned a mission to break up a spy ring. However, through a chain of extraordinary events, you not only smashed the spy ring apart, but also managed to capture an Imperial u-boat (mostly) intact, which you repaired and rechristened the Vergeltung.

After rooting out several Imp spy rings and fighting off an Imperial amphibious invasion by defeating their leader, Belkan Knight Sir Fleisher, you've decided that it's now time to move on to greener (or at least more profitable) pastures. You and the Demons left Albion for the besieged nation of Ustio, with new gear and squad members in tow.

Your first mission went well enough, routing a platoon of Imperial soldiers threatening the city of Valais' supply lines. Then you destroyed an Imperial superheavy artillery battery, taking pressure off the city's beleaguered defenders and giving them a chance to counterattack. After taking care of a personal mission for Qyburn which involved events and enemies you'd rather not talk about, it is a fresh new day, which means a new mission and new opportunities!

Like always, you wake up rather early, before the sun even breaks the horizon. It's quite a wonder that you manage to get up so early so consistently.

The base is much quieter now, too. The artillery barrages have lessened considerably, and most of the garrisoned troops have actually begun moving out into the mountains to push out the Imperials. How successful they've been, you don't really know. You suppose that's something that you could ask Freyberg.

Well, it's still early. What do you want to do?

You decide to go say goodbye to Artya, as you know she's scheduled to leave today. It had been a few days since you came back down from Somtaw, as you and Sam tried to arrange Artya's transport to Gallia. Also, you had to wait for Freyberg to verify that the partisans that were pestering his supply lines really did stop their attacks like you said they would.

It was a bit of an understatement to say that she had really grown on you and the other Demons. After all, she was pretty smart and resourceful, and was an amazing scrounger. She'd be sorely missed, but you believe that this is for the best. The kid deserved a second chance at life.

You see Sam helping Artya load her luggage into a jeep. You wave at them and they wave back.

"Hey, Cap. Here to see Artya off?" Sam asks.

"Well, of course." You nod. "Can't miss something like this."

"Well, hop in!" Sam waves you over. "The others are already waiting down on the docks!"

"Lies. They would never wake up this early." You narrow your eyes.

"Oh ye of little faith, Cap." Sam laughs.

As you drive down to the docks, you review the important life lessons Artya needed to remember in order to fit in in Gallia.

"Remember, Gallia doesn't use a barter system. We exchanged goods and services with ducats, which are those little coins and papers slips we gave you."

Arty nods.

"And there shouldn't be any Imperials in Gallia. If there are, something is very wrong and you can be we'll be there to fix it."

Artya nods.

"And not all problems can be solved with a rifle or a knife. Gallia has laws against that sort of thing."

Arty cocks her head.

NOT EVEN IF I STAB THEM NONLETHALLY

"No, Artya. No stabbing. Period."

Artya sulks but nods reluctantly.

"And watch out for guys trying to hit on you."

WHY WOULD BOYS WANT TO HIT ME? BECAUSE I'M DARCSEN?

"Uhhh, nevermind."

Meanwhile Sam can't stop snickering.

It's another ten minutes to the docks, where you can see the rest of the Demons milling about. Seeing you approach, they begin to perk up. As the jeep pulls to a stop, they begin swarming Artya and saying their own individual goodbyes.

Ramirez fist pounds the "Lil' Demon" and gifts her a hatchet.

Tarin gives her a respectful nod, reminding her to keep practicing all those CQC moves she taught her.

Brillant gives her a very fancy looking compass, no doubt to aid her scouting duties.

Julia, in a rare moment of charity, slips Artya quite a large number of ducats, warning her to keep it safe and spend it wisely.

Heloise hugs Artya and can't stop crying. Alek and Train literally have to pull her off Artya. She then hands her a bag of her best caramels.

Alek awkwardly shakes her hand and wishes her luck, and gives her a scarf, in case she ever ends up anywhere cold.

Headcase gives Artya an old but sturdy guitar, telling her that music is an important part of anybody's life.

Isolde salutes Artya and gives her one of her spare dueling sabers.

Sam gives Artya a hug and hands her stack of books and papers. Required reading for acclimating to Gallia, as well as study material for Lanseal's entrance exam. You took a look at it yourself, and were shocked at how detailed it was.

Then it comes to your turn. Artya looks at you expectantly. Knowing this may be the last time you see her for god knows how long, you give her your last sage piece of advice.

Artya nods, and as a last parting gift, you give her the biggest and strongest bear hug that you can manage, literally picking her up off the ground.

"Good luck, Artya. Make us proud."

Artya nods. She scribbles down on her final note and hands it to you. But there's no words on it, just one, lovingly drawn heart.

Artya waves as she board the ship, and the Demons wave back. With any luck, her ship will reach Gallia without any incident. Plus the sea routes were mostly safe nowadays with the Imperial fleet having bee pulled back.

Finally, the ship disappears over the horizon, and your squad begins to disperse, having other duties to fulfill.

"Hey Sam, I'm headed to see Freyberg. You wanna come with?" You ask.

"Sure!" Sam hops into the jeep beside you. "Gotta make sure he doesn't try to skimp on the payment, after all!"

Driving back up to the main base, you head over to Freyberg's office, which is must less hectic than last time, but still fairly busy. Freyberg's secretary, who pretty much recognizes you on sight by now, doesn't even bat an eye as you stride past her to Freyberg's office.

As always, the general looks tired and overworked, but his shoulders sag in relief when he see's you walk in.

"Ah, good, Captain Sturmfuhrer! I thought it was another of my officers coming in to complain about something." Freyberg sighs. "Please, take a seat."

"Is something wrong?" You ask, crossing your arms. "Last I checked, the war effort for Ustio was going pretty well."

"In a way, yes." Freyberg sighs, sliding his hands over his face. "The momentum is back on our side and we've managed to retake a fair bit of our territory, the Imperials are changing up their strategy. They've pulled back most of their heavier assets and have reverted to small scale skirmishes, similar to what the partisans had been doing to them. My men haven't dealt with this kind of fighting before, and they're getting somewhat... frustrated. Frustration which eventually makes its way back to me."

"So I assume you've got a mission in mind for us, then?" You ask.

Freyberg nods. "Initially, I was thinking of having you train some of my troops in how to handle small scale skirmishes, but now that you asked, I do have another proposal."

"Oh great job, Cap, you just threw away a cushy assignment." Sam rolls her eyes.

"What do you have in mind?" You ask.

"There's a particular area on our line of advance that's proven to be extremely troublesome to us." Freyberg points to a circled area on his map. "My men have taken to calling it Sniper Town."

"So you want to send us in."

"You and your men should have more experience to deal with this." Freyberg says. "Every day my men are delayed is another day the Imperials have to consolidate their positions. I'll even double the normal rate as a bonus for the extreme hazard."

At the words 'double' and 'rate', Sam's eyes light up.

"Aha! AHA!" Elizabeth grins. "Ooooh, this is perfect."

"Good news?" You ask.

"Well, mostly. The good news is, I managed to get the dirt on the sniper. Intercepted her radio signal and got her codename, which I managed to trace back to an existing AIS intel report."

CODEX ENTRY UNLOCKED

Elsa "Striker" Konig
SNIPER ACE
BOUNTY: 2000 credits dead. 4000 alive.

Hailing from the harsh and rural western edge of the Empire, Elsa Konig was trained from birth to be proficient with a rifle and to move unseen. For a girl who relied on hunting to survive, such skills were a necessity.

Elsa caught the attention of the Empire when she was hired as a guide by an Imperial Prince. Impressed by her skill, the Prince inducted Elsa into the Imperial armed forces as a sniper. In the years leading up to EWI, Elsa quickly made a name for herself in the Empire as one of the Emperor's top assassins, often putting a swift end to local rebellions with one well placed bullet.

During EWII, Elsa picked up a nasty reputation since she made it a habit of always shooting the second man in line whenever she came upon an enemy patrol. Using these demoralizing tactics, Elsa has been able to stall entire offensives on her own.

Her only discernible weakness is her apparent reluctance to reposition, though she will flee once it is clear her position is compromised, which has always made it difficult to eliminate her.

Currently has at least 40 confirmed kills to her name, not counting any of the clandestine missions she has undoubtedly taken within the Empire's sealed borders.

"Interesting." You say. "Thanks for the intel, Elizabeth."

"No problem, Captain."

"Hey, can you do a favor for me and round up the rest of the Demons? We'll be leaving for Sniper Town as soon as we can arrange transport."

"Got it."

You look at you watch and see you still have a bit of time, so you decide to go visit Qyburn to see he's finally finished that special project of his.

Going back to his workshop, you see that Qyburn is absolutely ecstatic, judging from the way he is rapidly waddling toward you.

"Ah! Captain Sturmfuhrer! Right in the nick of time!" He exclaims. "I must show you the pinnacle of my work!"

"This doesn't involve chemical weapons or anything like that, does it?" You ask suspiciously.

"Of course not! This is something I know you would appreciate!" Qyburn leads you to the back of his lab, where you see that old tarp you had seen before. With one smooth motion, Qyburn pulls back the tarp. Revealing... a thing...

"Qyburn... what the HELL am I looking at?" You gape.

"My newest invention, the Buzzbomb!" Qyburn says happily.

>>
>>25311681
>What the hell is it?!?!
>Qyburn, have you been getting enough sleep?
>>
>>25311626
You have no idea how they operate do you?

Sniper teams require shittonnes of intel on their theater to work in properly, they need to know troop dispositions of both sides, terrain and all sorts of other useful shit so they can move around and get the shots they need to unmolested.

Snipers gather loads of intel, and are given loads of intel, their job requires it, so of course she would know plenty, consider the intel she would have, especially as a favorite assassin of the imps, as a bonus to the bounty for taking her alive

Besides, we might have other options. Like an artillery barrage.
Hmm, I wonder if Qyburn and Elizabeth would have any suggestions on how to deal with a sniper?

"I assume it makes big boom?" You guess. You honestly have no clue what this contraption does.

"Oh yes. Enough to level at least two city blocks." Qyburn gives a mad grin. "Thanks to my contacts, I've manged to get access to Theimer's notes, as well as the blueprints for the ISARA biplane. Amazing minds, the two of them were. Shame they died so young... Anyways, the Buzzbomb uses the same concepts that make powered flight possible. And instead of the propeller engine they devised, I developed what I call the ragnite pulse engine. I bit more unstable, but much faster. It will be able to carry a ragnite bomb hundreds of miles to its target! Accuracy might be a problem, though. I haven't had a chance to test the gyroscope guidance system..."

You just nod blankly.

"You.. have no idea what I just said, did you?" Qyburn asks.

You shake her head.

"Alright." Qyburn sighs. "In layman's terms, it's a flying bomb. Give me a set of coordinates and I can program to bomb to fly right on top of it."

"That's...amazing." You whistle.

"Yes, but it's a terrible chore to fabricate. I won't be able to make too many of them at a time."

"Well, anything you can get counts." You say.

Yeah, we should definitely talk to Alek and Tarin before we set out.

In terms of the actual plan, I'd say, bring Alek, Tarin and maybe 1 other scout, have 1 of the scouts lure the sniper into breaking cover, and have Alek force her to reposition, then we can cut off her escape routes by using precise artillery bombardments of certain areas, and herd her into our stormtroopers

You decide to have a discussion with your resident sniper and your best scout. After all, maybe they'll have some ideas on how to take out Elsa.

"Alek, Tarin, I need to discuss something with you two." You say.

And you explain about Elsa and the information you gleaned from her dossier. Tarin nods sagely as you talk, while you see Alek grow paler and paler.

"Sounds tough." Tarin says. "But doable. I've taken out snipers before."

"I haven't!" Alek wails.

"Man up, Alek, you knew this had to come sooner or later." Tarin retorts.

"Hey hey, let's keep this civil." You warn. "We want a way to take out this sniper. Alive, preferably."

"Well, that's a lot tougher then." Tarin frowns. "Usually the best way to take out a sniper is overwhelming firepower... or another sniper."

"Yeah, but this one cuts and runs at the first sign of trouble. If we miss, she's in the wind."

"Well, the first thing we need is bait." Tarin says. "Snipers always look for targets of opportunity. Officers, specialists, gunners, anybody who might be special in some way. Then we'll have Alek and a scout element out in the field. We wait for the sniper to take a shot, and we triangulate her position and hopefully manage to neutralize her then."

"A-and if I can get a good look at the town, I can narrow down the possible positions she might be hiding in."

"Good, we've got a plan, then." You nod.

"The question is," Tarin frowns. "Who's going to be the bait? Me and Brillant are the fastest, Sam and Isolde are the most heavily armored, Ramirez has taken out his fair share of snipers and know how they work, or there's you, the officer."

>I think we can use [specify] as the bait.

You feel a bit guilty about breaking your promise to Sam not to take crazy risks, but this was for the mission, not for your own personal crusade. So you acquiesce to Sam's demand.

"All right. give me an extra set of armor plates and hope that our target doesn't have a habit of aiming for headshots."

Soon, you're donning an amount of armor normally reserved for lancers. However, it does make you feel a bit safer, if not insanely uncomfortable. Shit, was this how Sam felt all the time?

"Heads up Demons, we've just entered Sniper Town." The truck driver warns you. "Continue at your own risk."

You all dismount the truck and get your first good look at Sniper Town, and immediately figure out why it got the name it did. Apparently, the town liked to have lots of tall towers and multistory buildings, making it a sniper's paradise. Elsa could be almost anywhere.

"Okay Alek, time to put that sniper training to use." You say. "Go for it."

"Okay.... I think I got it." Alek says. "If she's a hunter, she's only going to be in a few places. She'll want to be in place that has at least two escape routes, so we can write off the towers. Too easy to get trapped in one of those. I think I've narrowed it down to four locations."

Alek brings out a map and points them out.

"She either be in the church, the hospital, city hall, or the northern mountains."

"Okay, then we do this." Tarin draws a line through the town. "We'll take this route through the town. That way, you'll only ever be in sight of one or two the positions at most."

"Alright." You nod. "Are you sure you'll be all right by yourself, Tarin?"

>Considering those can blow holes in tanks
Not really.
A .50 BMG round or a comparable 12.7mm round can penetrate a tank, but it has to be a shitty, early model tank. Anything from about 1943 on is going to bounce that shit and laugh in your face. And only Anti-Materiel Rifles are chambered for those. The three most common calibers for modern sniper rifles are 7.62x51 NATO, 7.62x54r, and .338 Lapua.
And WWII-era sniper rifles usually fired the same round as the standard infantry rifle of their nation of origin, and were often just said rifle with a scope.
Germans used KAR98Ks, their standard rifle.
Russians used Mosin-Nagant 91/30s, their standard rifle.
The Japanese used Arisak Type 99s, their standard rifle.
Americans used Springfield 1903s, which were the standard rifle before being replaced by the M1 Garand.
And so on.

It's risky, but you decide to set up position in one of the southern towers. That way you've got eyes on all four possible sniper positions. However, the tradeoff is that Elsa would have a line of sight on you as well.

You settle in and start ranging in on the various target areas. Elsa probably had months to do this, and you only have a scant few minutes to catch up.

"This is Jager. We are proceeding with mission." You hear the Captain announce.

You take a quick glance below and see two tanks and several indistinguishable figures moving through the town's narrow streets.

"Tarin, are you in position?" You ask.

"Ready and waiting." She replies.

Tarin had snuck into the center of town beforehand, using her skills to stay out of sight of not only the suspected sniper hide spots, but pretty much all of the other possible ones as well. She was definitely very careful. Ideally, she'll be positioned an equal distance from all four points.

And now it was just an agonizing game of waiting.

Anti-tank rifles were massive, and not really any good for engaging human targets. Too hard to adjust aim on the fly. They weren't really even a rifle. They were pretty much a miniature cannon, only called "rifles" because they could technically be carried and operated by one man.

You are Tarin, and you are on the hunt. Working with Alek, you've tracked your target to an abandoned hospital. According to him, she's on the east side of the building on the third or forth floor. It's now up to you to either neutralize her or flush her out.

You creep slowly forward through the cracked and dirty halls, long abandoned ever since the Imperials invaded. Dirty bandages and other medical waste choke the halls and floors, disturbing your finely tuned sense, but you push through it.

You carefully sneak your way up the stairs, careful not to try and give away the slightest sound at all.

You manage to parry Elsa's stabbing attack with your rifle, he blade carving a deep gouge in the wooden stock. You then whip around the butt of your rifle again, smashing Elsa in the side of the face. Elsa staggers backward, stunned and bleeding, and drops her knife. Suddenly, to your surprise, she drops out of sight.

You run forward and realize that there was a hole in the floor that leads directly down to the second floor. This was her backup escape route. You see Elsa scramble off a pile of mattresses that had been set up beforehand and she tries to stagger away.

It's something we got recently. Does double damage if near death, if I remember it correctly.

Don't what tricks she has down there. For all we know she has a SMG just waiting for herself down there and we be jumping right into the line of fire.

Inform the squad. Everyone move in and secure the escape routes from the building. She's looking to bug out, we have to catch her before she disappears.

"Captain, the target is in the hospital! Currently tracking her. You need to get here before she gets away!"

"We're three minutes out, Tarin, hold out until then!"

You take a running leap out the window, and by some act of providence, Elsa is just at the right position where instead of just doing a roll to absorb your fall, you transition into a flying tackle. Elsa's body absorbs most of the impact and knocks the air right out of her. As you get up, she tries to reach for a dropped pistol, but a distant CRACK and the pistol shatters like glass.

You give the back of Elsa's head a nice hit with the handle of your knife, stunning her. You look up in the distance and manage to see Alek in his sniper position, giving you a thumbs up. Apparently his comms were down or something, which was why he wasn't replying.

Meanwhile, Elsa groans and tries to crawl away, but you grab her by the hair, pull her head back, and press your knife against her throat.

"Just try it, bitch. I've carved up meaner Imps than you." You growl.

At that point the convoy rolls up, armed and ready for action, though they're a bit deflated on seeing that it's already over.

Jager takes one look at you, and then at the downed Elsa before nodding.

"Good job, Tarin."

"Alek deserves as much credit as I do, sir." You say, handing Elsa off to Ramirez and Brillant, who drag her away.

"I'll be sure to tell him that." Jager nods.

>CONTROL RELINQUISHED

All in all, you think the mission went pretty successfully. Nobody was seriously hurt, AND you managed to capture Elsa alive. It only involved you getting shot twice and Alek nearly losing half his skull, but things went well. Qyburn's trauma plates obviously proved their worth.

"You gave us a scare there when you didn't respond on comms." You say to Alek as your squad loads prepares to load Elsa into the truck.

"Yeah, well, Elsa managed to shoot off my headset. A few more inches and it would've been in my head." Alek grins nervously. "Guess I lucked out there, huh?"

"No, not luck. You were just better than her, that's all."

"But man, I don't care what Tarin says, she was pretty damn amazing." Alek continues. "I saw the whole thing, chasing Elsa through the whole damn hospital and then doing a flying tackle on her from the second story."

"I'm sure it'll make a great drinking tale." You laugh.

Unfortunately, your mood is disturbed when you hear a sudden commotion behind you. It seems word of Elsa's capture has already spread, and there are about twenty to thirty Ustian soldiers gathering around you, with angry looks on their faces. And their numbers only begin to grow.

"Heard you managed to capture the Striker." One of the Ustians, a big burly sergeant, steps forward. "That true?"

"Depends." You narrow your eyes suspiciously. "Why do you want to know?"

"That bitch killed a lot of our friends." The sergeant says, pointing an accusatory finger at Elsa. "She deserves to pay for what she did."

"And what do you mean by that."

"Look, you're mercs, right? It's all about money for you. Whatever Freyberg is going to pay you for her, we'll double it." The sergeant pulls out a rather large wad of credits. "Half now, and the other half when you hand her over to us."

Also, while Elizabeth got the *dossier* on her from AIS, that's because Elizabeth is an Albion spy.

I don't think it necessarily means that the bounty is ONLY for the AIS.

And if it is? Then we simply don't hand her over to AIS.

Give her to Fryberg and Ustio instead. Simple as that.

Jager has been shown to be a rather honorable sort who while damn good at war doesn't mistreat prisoners, keeps his word, and doesn't tolerate that sort of bullshit.
>>

>>She stays with us. Deal with it.
I also seriously doubt that they'd have enough to even match the fee, let alone with the 2.5 multiplier. Also, since the handing would be now, what was the point of even offering half now and half in about 30 seconds?
>>
>>25315440

Adding to this it is more pragmatic as well to let her get scared then when we defend her she will be much more willing to talk,
>>
>>25315419

I doubt she'd so easily spill her secrets.

>>25315443
That's ridiculous.

They might expect/order her to fall on her sword WHEN SHE IS CAPTURED, so as to avoid giving away information...

... but if she escapes (especially if she manages to kill an enemy officer or two) they'd STILL kill her? ... Really?

Er. Is that how the Empire operates in VC? Because that just seems like bullshit to me.
>>
>>25315455
this, if we make her see us as the only thing keeping her alive, she is all the more likely to cooperate willingly

"She stays with us." You say, politely handing the wad of credits back to the sergeant. "Deal with it."

The sergeant glares daggers at you, obviously not happy with your decision. "You some kind of Imp lover?"

"No. In fact I don't really like Imps that much at all. But what I do have are standards. Standards that prevent me from indulging vengeful men like you."

The crowd of disgruntled Ustian soldiers has gotten larger know, and they're beginning to press toward you. You hear some of the Demons behind you nervously arming their weapons.

No, she very well might. "Fine, do what you want." He grumbles, sulking off.

"I'm just doing my job." You say sternly. "I'm not doing this because I've taken any particular liking to you."

"Understood." She says glumly as she's led into the back of the transport truck.

During the drive back, Alek recounts to the rest of the squad of Tarin's exploits, seeing as how she wasn't exactly the storyteller type. There's lots of gasps, whoops, and cheers as the convoy slowly made its way from Sniper Town back to Valais.

Throughout all this, Elsa remained silent.

It's already well past nighttime when you return. You turn Elsa over to the base lockup, though you make sure to post have Ramirez and Brillant keep an eye on her and set up a rotation so at least two Demons would be with her at all times. After all, it wouldn't help you at all if some disgruntled Ustian soldier managed to sneak into Elsa's cell and exact blood revenge.

also, we should have a nice quiet talk with the general about how we should get a nice bonus for preventing his men from committing war crimes

Really close to being a flat out threat. The best method I see is going to her cell with some good food handing it over asking how she is if her injury is any better. Then mentioning we will try to keep her away from anyone who wants to hurt her but the more she can tell us the more we can do it by giving info to them. Jager's military man he should understand the basics of this type of interrogation.
>>
... Actually... I've been thinking...

Do we know if there's a Belkan Knight operating in this area of the war?

I forget if we were already told that early on or not.

If we don't know yet -- but possibly suspect -- then asking Elsa what she knows about any Belkan Knights would be something we'd want to do.
>>
>>25315811

We've already handed her over to Fryberg.

Plus, I don't think Jaeger has enough authority to flat-out keep Elsa from the Ustian army, really.

The matter is kind of out of his hands here.

fuck yes
>>
>>25315837
seeing as we haven't handed her over yet, and we are completely separate from the Ustians and are here merely as mercenaries, we can do whatever we damn well want, the only reason we haven't burned the place down to make a fighting arena for our epic incoming fistfight is that we would probably get charged for the property damage
>>
>>25315850

I thought "base lockup" meant we'd made our way back to camp -- a camp which is in an Ustian city or Ustian encampment.

So the Ustian army would be right next door. (And in fact we're setting guards to make sure they don't get a chance to sneak in for revenge.)

>>25315858
>We are a mercenary, she is our prisoner, seeing as we have not yet handed her to the general, we can do whatever we please with her.

Mmm. But I doubt we'd let her go or something. Not only would we miss out on a lot of money, but we'd piss off a contractor who wasn't whatshisname-the-Albion-spy-dude. Also, it might result in releasing an incredibly deadly sniper.

>>25315837
>I don't think Jaeger has enough authority to flat-out keep Elsa from the Ustian army, really.

Keep her as our prisoner, she is an extremely valuable intel source and can be used as a bargining chip at a later date if we wanted to ransom her off.

>whatshisname-the-Albion-spy-dude
I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that only the dossier that Elizabeth got on her came from AIS, not the bounty, it makes absolutley no sense for a country hundreds of miles away would issue a bounty for a sniper whose bullets could not even reach their territorial waters if she tried.
>>
>>25315891
>worth it
The intelligence we can get from her, while helping us and our allies, can be sold off on the grey market to various intelligence services who pay top dollar for such things. If we can get her to spill the beans and think that she would be better as our prisoner and not the Ustians, she would make sure that whatever she gave us would be worth more than the bounty.

>>25315837
>Plus, I don't think Jaeger has enough authority to flat-out keep Elsa from the Ustian army, really.

Our mission was to eliminate the Sniper threat, which we did.

While true, to me this is more about who can provide the better profit, the bounty or Elsa? as I said much earlier in the thread, I'm inclined to believe we could sell the intel and other resources we can get from Elsa for much more than the bounty.

Think of it this way, the is an assassin, a covert operative, they cannot work within the confines of a normal command structure and supply train, she much have caches or other resources hidden all over the place, and have knowledge that would make some people keep throwing money at us until we told them to stop it.
>>
>>25315891

We can personally interrogate her about knights for one. We can also get info about the war front and the likes from a imperial view point. We don't have to give her up right now after all.

Fryberg I don't think should get angry. Sniper is out of the way. We can also report some of his troops seem to be slightly...lynch mobby. Which given the unlikelihood of his own men reporting that he might be able to Install some discipline with these guys.
>>

Or rather a small group did, but they were the only Ustian servicemen we communicated with anyway, so whatever.
>>
>>25315923
This, intelligence agencies literally have unlimited budgets for hard actionable intelligence, and with the federation feeling the pain on all fronts, we can bleed them dry and they won't bat an eyelid.

>>25315945
It would not matter if we couldn't cash in the bounty if her intel is more valuable.

This missions pay was the reward for neutralizing her, the bounty was a bonus, and her and her intel is a bigger bonus, I say we take the bigger bonus.

Like >>25315955 said, the bounty is only 4000, but we just got paid what, 7500 for neutralizing her? We could easily match the bounty by selling intel to the Ustians and everyone else fighting the imps
>>
>>25315972
throughout our whole southern vacation, the Ustians have been utterly useless, and while I feel sorry for Freyberg, if it was not for our direct intervention, Ustio would have fallen already.

>>
>>25315972
Yeah, at no point have the Ustian's shown they can be capable and honourable soldiers, I'm betting that if we hand Elsa over, the moment the guard turns his back, she will be set upon by the mob.

It was just the guys being terrorized by the sniper that acted like this. And if I understand correctly, it was very much common for snipers to get a rough deal in war if they were captured.

>Bled them dry.

They where willing to spend 2.5 times normal pay. They wouldn't do that if it would bleed some totally dry. There is still money here.

I believe they said that while well funded their home forces weren't the most skilled... and apparently not the most disciplined.

yep, I think Jager is the honourable sort who would not like that fate seen upon anyone, enemy or not, you do not want to get taken alive if you are a sniper

While there may some left, think about it, imagine you are Freyberg, you troops are shithouse and undisciplined, the Imps are advancing on all sides and it looks like there is no hope left, then all of a sudden, a kickass merc company rocks up in your harbor and says they will take any job, no matter how hard, as long as you pay well.

I don't think the general would even care if he bankrupted the country just to fund the Demons staying an extra day or two if it meant his country was still his own at the end.
>>
>>25316043
I'm a bit worried about that honestly.

We're good, but its probably only a matter of time before their lackluster troops do something dumb and get one of our men killed. We've been operating mostly solo so far, but eventually they'll give us a mission that involves working alongside more of those those not-so-skilled not-so-disciplined troops, and thats when shit has the potential to go bad.
>>

exactly, A-Stan is a prime example of this right now, Coalition spec ops led the way, all by themselves at the beginning in '01, they kicked arse and pretty much won things by themselves, but then as things scaled back and they started working with the locals, shit got out of hand, I mean, whats the fucking point of trying to help the country if you cannot trust the locals supposedly fighting along side you, I can't go 2 weeks without hearing about how the ANA has been involved in fuckups with country X or country Y.

I would hate to see that happen to the Demon's, they are a spearhead unit, not a police force.
>>
>>25316043

Remember the Albion reserve forces? The really really old dudes? Those guys were even LESS impressive.

>>25316052
Yeah. I just meant that "wanting to get revenge on a sniper" is something common to most armies anyway, it wasn't just an Ustian thing specifically. It's not exactly the sign of unusually poor discipline.

...

... Basically, I'm trying to say "Yeah the Ustians have poor discipline, but the sniper incident is very likely to have happened in just about any other army anyway."

Mostly, we haven't gotten much shit from the Ustian army, really. Except for the guys who directly had a grudge with a sniper (and who backed off after we warned them) they haven't been a pain in the ass.
>>
>>25316073
We just got to give them a speech how if any of our guys have an ''accident'' the demons who sunk an infamous battleship, the ones that held off an invasion.... We're going to turn our wrath on them, their loved ones and anyone else they know.
>>
>>25316095
>they haven't been a pain in the ass.
Because we have been smart enough to stay away from their incompetent ass'
>>
>>25316106
While that may help avoid 'incidents' it wouldn't do wonders for our reputation, which is important as a merc company, I'd rather we pack up and move on before it gets to that point.
>>
>>25316073

Not too worried here. The demons are hyper elite mercs the type of missions they will typically be sent on is different then the normal troopers. While they may be Undisciplined they are fighting for there homeland and that is a massive edge to morale. We can trust them to handle things that normal infantry do. It doesn't take a massive amount of skill to hold a line and at least they are better support then the homeguard.

Though yeah once we get a work back to back with these guys mission we will want to get ourselves in a position where if they screw up we don't get harmed.
>>
>>25316116
I don't think it would hurt our reputation to let people know we don't take kindly to backstabbing and respond quite furiously. It seems almost a given really, don't it? But I agree I'd rather avoid it all together.
>>
>>25316148
Its not backstabbing I'm worried about. Its them doing something derpy on the battlefield and having their mistake get one of our men killed.

Provided we keep landing these SpecOps type missions its a non-issue, but the more we keep thrashing the Imps in the small engagements we excel in, the more they'll want to force a decisive battle.
>>
>>25316116

Depends on what you mean by Rep. Higher ups will want to hire us if this gets out because they know we want take bribes to cut though the chain of command. Which is something you really bloody want in a merc unit. I don't think our rep in the common army of this nation will go up though.
>>
>>25316171

Fuck I need sleep won't take bribes.
