Hey, /tg/, let's play a game of Mornington Crescent.

Since we're anonymous, we're playing Docklands rules; no successive captures allowed and line intersections are wild (otherwise multiple players could lay claim on Bank, leading to all players' being trumped). Remember, for this variant, diagonals count double and stations south of the Thames are immune to the rule that restricts lateral play.

I'll start: Cockfosters.
>>
I floop the pig.
>>
>>25300550

That's too complex for a relatively fast-moving imageboard. We should go with Old London without all the unnecessary and bothersome frills worked in.
>>
>>25300579
Fair enough. I reiterate my first move, but note that in Old London, Cockfosters would be in Knid.
>>
Alright, moving out from Watford.
Lets get chugging.
>>
>>25300550
Do remind me old chap, under Docklands rules was it illegal to skip two stations in a row, assuming you could land on them?
>>
Bermondsey. Cockfosters is now boxed.
>>
>>25300651
I am pretty sure you can but only as long as you have sufficient coal at the depot and are traveling downhill.

We play Mornington Crescent like, once every six months or so.

What is this thread
>>
>>25300597

Are you certain? I'm pretty sure that was not case in Vanilla. Although I'm not sure whether this issue has been resolved in first or second Rebalancing Errata. I suppose we can solve any conflicts as they arise. Very well, then, let's take the route to Paddington

>>25300662
Okay, I'm going to call High Barnet here. That should shake up this deadlock a bit.

>>

>>
Oh, oh! Just a few moves in, and I am eerily reminded of the legendary match of that fritz devil, Hauptmann, had against the Britain's best in '68. You have my attention, sirs.
>>

Ooh, risky.
>>
Edgware, and run for bust.
>>

>boxing this early in the game
>for a shit-tier position like that

You're both plebs. I engage at Chesham. I'll remind you that de Havilland's rule is in effect.
>>
Elephant and Castle.
No one expects them to come from the Bakerloo line.
>>
South Kensington; hopefully will manage to avoid the Circle Line loop...
>>
>>25300726
No-one agreed on de Havilland, you arse-felching codswallop.
>>
>>25300726
>de Havilland's rule

Arse, then hmm...

I guess I'll have to shunt over at Harrow-on-the-Hill and take the stacking penalty.
>>
>>25300726
I think I'm going to have to give up High Barnet - thank you for breaking that deadlock though, I think you're undervaluing the long-term implications of locking down Cockfosters like that.

I'll move to... Morden.
>>
King's Crass Street Pancreas to Waste Monster.
>>
>>25300747
>>25300753
Someone's called double arse, but I bet you it's samefag. Can we move to dismiss double arse?
>>
>>25300726
>de Havilland's
I hate that thing.
But given we're under Docklands rules, that means I can invoke the Bansfield maneuver and thus, I take King's Cross.
>>
>>25300759
Has someone invoked the Battersea pollution rule again?
>>
I'll start at Stratford, taking the Docklands.
>>
>>25300747
Really? I always thought it was simply inherent in both Docklands and Old London variations, or was that just a regional rule peculiar to my area?
>>
>>25300768
I think that's fair for now. I think it's not so much samefaggery as an accidental second cheek.
The arse remains one-cheeked for now, I agree.
>>
>>25300768
Double arse isn't applicable anyway. Second millennium revision prevents it when no one has used Piccadilly yet.
>>
>>25300797
I suggest we motion to spanked cheek to clear this up.
>>
>>25300576
The pig is dead!
>>
>>25300793
Crap. That's WAY too early for a line to be taken. I think we need to try and block off the vertical.

Monument.
>>
>>25300796
It's one of those common near-religious disagreements regarding the Kilharney Schism.
>>
>>25300782
looks like it. I guess I'll go to Notting Hell, passing South Keen Singtown
>>
>>25300800
>Piccadilly

A-ha, I was in a right quandary there as to what to do but now I know!

St. John's Wood.
>>
Damn it people, I refuse to play until the National Synod properly consider the dramatic impact the opening of the London Overland circle has on the game!

Until then, I declare you all anathema.
>>
>>25300746

>South Kensington
>Avoid the Circle Line loop

YOU FOOL
You've just boxed in the entire centre of the board!
>>
>>25300806
You can't spank cheeks while you've got a dead flooped pig.
Thank you for that ruling, MYCROFT
>>
>>25300834
Anathema smanathema.

I disavow your castigation and obstructions.
>>
>>25300831
Clever girl.

Chesham to Harrow-On-The-Hill. I believe this brings the current lateral state from Yan to Tethera?
>>
>>25300839
Nah, Metropolitan's still open.
>>
I'll be claiming south wimbledon from my little nest in Morden, now.
>>
>>25300843
Damn that pig!

Can we at least roll the cheese?
>>
>>25300820
Ah, we'll be fine. Where is he gonna go, the London City Airport? We never agreed to use Seville's 3rd, therefore barring all airports and seaports from the game.
>>
>>25300866
Hm... Baker Street.
>>
>>25300834

Once we start playing overground, we'll get that bastard who blocks off one whole side of the board with the DLR. It's never any fun.
>>
Golder's Green. Which, for the moment, at least, means I'm the King Rat.
>>
>>25300824

There was no schism, just a bunch of heretics that decided that Regula Brunel should not apply to them when somebody snatched Green Park from under the nose of their spiritual liege.
>>
>>25300882

... Hammersmith you cunning stunt.
>>
>>25300860

Hmm, good point.
As long as no one takes Embankment early on I guess we'll be fine.
>>
>>25300550
Surely you can't assume that there'll be the requisite 15 players? And besides, how will you manage Nidd? That's a terrible rule. We should play the Charing Cross version.
>>
>>25300876
That's a good point, but what about the piers? Surely they're fair game even under Seville, and mighty dangerous too, especially if Waterloo & City is uncontested.
>>
>>25300896
Oooh. Tricky.

Let's see... I invoke Hartleby's Maneuver and shuffle to Kensington. I believe this places you in Knid?

>>25301016
It is in play, but it's subject to Farnsworth's Shackle. Some buggery about charts and all that. It's best avoided, unless you happen to own a Crescent die- which, sadly, /tg/'s diceroller does not support. You'll know if you have one; it's the truncated cuboctahedron with the asymmetric faces, and if you're a real purist, it'll be ivory.
>>
>>25301025

Ah, ok. That should break up things inside the circle line a bit then.

>>25301050
We could just assign numbers to the sides.
The diceroller does support arbitrary dice at least.

Guvna', who in their right of mind would spend a whole turn dillydallying for the negligible bonus summoned travelers provide? Are you perchance mistaking this game with that confounded "magic" tomfoolery?
>>
Right my boilers are running smooth and the coals are collected, I shall use the Grand Whistle maneuver to clear the path through Paddington at the cost of 3 then 2 speed on my following turns.

Those bears have to go.
>>
>>25302358
Mute isn't handicap seat allowed. You're accosted by train security.
>>
>>25302371
I invoke the station sandwich rule. Your use of the word 'perchance' sends you back four stations.
>>
>>25302371
You forget that reinforcements are incredibly powerful near some stations, such as Paddington and Russel Square. Of course, it can easily backfire as seen here >>25302194
>>
>>25302369

Since when was it legal move for a player to roll for service staff intervention? I don't think first Cromwellian Reform package allows any such thing. I raise objection to the Ministry of Infrastructure.
>>
Rolled 1

>>25302371
Not to spread fear, but I think he's preparing to use an Ondsyzeki Masterplan. I'll move to Stockwell this turn, just in case.
>>
>>25302374
Don't forget you take an additional speed penalty due to the exterminators taking care of the ants.
>>
>>25302409
Haven't you read the latest Queen's errata? It's fairly new so you might not have seen it yet but it allows for this.
>>
>>25302401

Paddington Bear does not fall under category of reinforcements, it's an Elemental Force from the Folklore Supplemental.

>>25302400

Damnation! I knew I should have been more careful in phrasing that.
>>
>>25302369
>>25302378
As if I wasn't prepared for that. I sacrifice my Moleman token, letting it take the fall.
>>
>>25302442
Still makes him eligible to be used as reinforcement, as long as you succeed your Bear Lore test.
>>
>>25302452
Molemen have Vanish, you can't use them to circumvent Legal or Infrastructure actions taken against you.
>>
>>25302468

Only if you use the term very loosely. Only a fully controlled entity qualifies as a reinforcement. Which Bears are not, even if you ace the test. It's the same mistake as if you claimed that Thomas the Tank Engine was a legal engine.

I fried the Mars bar and gave it to them, legally making them count as Scottish.
>>
>>25302501
Not the guy you're arguing with, but succeeding at a Bear Lore roll makes them fully controlled for one turn, during which they are a Reinforcement.

Not that one turn lets you do very much with the bonus.
>>
>>25302524
IRISH are the ones who don't retreat. It's like you people have never played before.
>>
>>25302533

There is a distinction between "Is fully under control" and "obeys every command", especially if you cross-reference it with how Elemental Force behaviour is regulated, with a forced roll for unshacklement.
>>
We're getting a bit legalistic here. Want a "what I says goes" roll?
>>
>>25302577
Unshacklement is a bullshit rule anyway, we all know it's on the edge of being errata'd.

>Not playing by the book
>Being upset by playing by the book

It's a mark of a gentleman to dodge and bend rules without getting caught, not complain about them being enforced.

And that's how while you've been busy arguing, I chalked up the Chalk Farm
>>
>>25302647
>chalking up the chalk farm
So old-fashioned.

I play Graffiti Bomb on your train.
>>
>>25302683
Excellent! You've left Oxford Road wide open. I multitrack drift in.
>>
>>25302700
>multitrack drift

You have to spend a turn bringing in Tourist Swathes to pull that one, sir.

It may be gentlemanly to bend the rules, but there is sport in catching you at it, too.
>>
I play Mind The Gap on Mornington Crescent. A dick move, sure, but under the 2008 revision I get the -2 penalty.
>>
>>25302766
YOU IDIOT THERE ARE MOLEMEN IN PLAY

I play Rat Infestation on Mornington to keep the tunnels full. God DAMN you, I wanted to save that card.
>>
>>25302729

Actually, that was a different person. But as a sign of fellowship and sportmanship I shall expend my token of Proms to aid the fellow creative player out.
>>
Mornington Crescent.

Thanks bro now I can...

>>25302832
Awww man, I only needed like two more moves.

Btw, it's obvious how you did it of course but it's pretty bad form to not explain your move to get there.
>>
>>25302832
Damn. Well played, folks. The same again three months hence?
>>
>>25302902
I'll be there, mate.
>>
>>25300746

I went from South Ken to Piccadilly Circus and back again today, it was fun; I bought some comics and a dove from Forbidden Planet, and an ECW cannon and King Charles I from Orcs Nest. I had a nice hot chocolate and slice of carrot cake in the Costa Coffee on Shaftesbury Avenue. A lovely day out in all :3

I take the connection from Brent Cross to Shepard's Bush, then prepare the line for a move to Camden Town (Charing Cross branch).
>>
>>25302867
Obviously he used his Rail Laying card to bridge through the Molemen tunnels. A masterful play, for those who've never played before.
>>
>>25303080
Oh shit, game over.

What a shame, I guess Mornington Crescent is a game you can't predict.
>>
>>25303246
Wait, weren't we playing 1775 Alexander's Revised Edition?
>>
>>25302832
You're lucky I never drew a Lost Luggage card, or I'd have gotten there long ago.
>>
I invoke the Wimbly Wombly Benediction and start tunneling too the right somewhere around St Johns wood.

This isn't over, I envoke Who's Rules. Someone roll to place the police box.
>>
>>25304877
I rolled pi, so three blocks down from London School of Economics on the 14th of march.

God damn it if it were the Ides of March I could have used the Roman Gambit and arrived at Mornington Crescent before the game began.
>>
I don't know what is going on.
>>
>>25304877

Oh, don't be that guy. I know you're technically allowed to reverse time and say the game never happened, but it's just poor sportsmanship.

This thread is really making me miss London
>>

It's now or never.

I'm taking Victoria Cross. Now recover from THAT gentlemen.
