Predator Quest: Episode 28

You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to investigate breaches of forbidden knowledge by clan Weyland on the planet Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known in the human tongue.

__________________________

As you crawl deeper and deeper through the facility's ventilation system, you notice more and more armed personnel patrolling the halls. At last, you come to the bottom of a large central air shaft extending far above you, perhaps all the way to the surface. Several massive fans thrum rhythmically throughout, circulating the air.

Along the bottom ring, you find ventilation access to other parts of the facility. They are labeled, going clock-wise, Operations, Storage, Armory, Barracks, and Lab. You perform a second scan for the source of the distress signal, but it seems to be far below where you're standing.

Where do you go:

A. Operations
B. Storage
C Armory
D. Barracks
E. Lab.
>>

A. Operations. Maybe some interesting info.

>>
>>25293405
>>A. Operations.

You Step into the ventilation shaft which takes you through the operations section of the facility. Your teammates follow behind you.

You slow your crawl as you hear two guards walk past your position below you. Your keen mask sensors pick up their conversation.

"So what do you think is jamming our comms?"

"No clue, man. But we're blind down here. Know what I heard from the gearheads? No AA, no radar, and no sensors. No link to HQ either."

"Shit, that's rough. Can't wait to bag the fucker that's responsible for this."

You quicken your pace as they pass by.

The passage opens wide in front of you and is split into two directions.

The left is marked "Security Station" and the right is marked "Command Room".

Which way do you go?

A. Towards the security station.
B. Towards the command room.
>>

>>A. Towards the security station.

You turn and proceed towards the security station. You stop in front of the ventilation opening overlooking the large, electronics filled room. Several large arrays of monitors show what looks to be footage fed from security cameras around the facility.

Four human guards sit in front of them, eyeing each feed carefully.

You listen carefully to their conversation.

"You think it's another one of those things?"

"Fuck, I hope not."

"Well who else could it be? We lose contact with one of our surface team and all of a sudden, bam, everything's jammed."

"Shut your mouths, you two, and keep looking. He's in here somewhere."

With that, the guards return to sheepish silence.

Do you:

A. Stealthily exit the vent system and deal the with the guards. (DC: Medium-Easy)
B. Remain still and use your vision mask to zoom in on those monitors, to see if you can spot anything.

>>
>>25293840
>B. Remain still and use your vision mask to zoom in on those monitors, to see if you can spot anything.

You zoom your vision mask in on the sets of monitors, and begin to make a survey of the facility.

You focus in on one of the feeds in the lab section. You distinctly make out the silouatte of a Yautja restrained in one of the operating benches.

Do you:

A. Retrace your steps and head to the lab area.
B. Stealthily drop in and dispatch the four guards. (DC: Medium)

>>
>>B. Stealthily drop in and dispatch the four guards. (Critical Failure)

You slowly slither out of the vent and drop silently to the floor below, while still cloaked. Your teammates follow suit. Once all three of you are in the room, you raise your wrist-blade and jam it square into the back of one of the guard's head.

Beside you, Sharp-Strike impales one with his combi-stick while Burning-Scythe dispatches another with a quick twist of the neck. You grip the shoulder of the last guard and trust your blade into the back of his neck.

He twitches for a moment, and somehow, by sheer luck or willpower, he slams his fist on the alarm in his death struggles. Red warning lights suddenly flash, and a loud alarm begins to blare.

You hear shouting and footsteps pounding down the hall.

Do you:

A. Turn head back into the vent.
B. Hold your ground and defend the security room.

A and mine the room as we leave
>>
>>B. Hold your ground and defend the security room.

You extend your combi-stick with a flick of your wrist and adopt a combat stance.

The door slides open with a whine and dozens of metallic balls bounce into the room. A splie second later, they explode. Some are filled with chaff, whcih fill the room with small metallic flakes and disrupting your cloak. Others are filled with blazing hot smoke, which blinds your IR. Still others release sharp EMP pulses which temporaily renders your targeting systems inoperable.

They are preparing to charge.

Do you:

A. Burst out of the room and fight away from the chaff and smoke. (DC: Medium-Hard)
B. Stay where you are and take them in melee. (DC: Hard)
C. Try to return to the ventilation systems.

>>A. Burst out of the room and fight away from the chaff and smoke. (Pass, VS. DC 16)

Not wanting to be trapped, you take the tactical initiative and rush outwards, You skewer the nearest guard through the chest and turn deftly into the hall way. Behind you, you hear the thrumming of Burning-Scythe's plasma pistol as it discharges into another.

You turn and see several rows of disciplined guards arrayed in perfect formation, guns at the ready, near the end of the hallway.

You howl in defiance. A shout of "OPEN FIRE!" sounds from their ranks. You suddenly feel dozens of needles thumping into your body. You look down, and pull the projectile from your waist. It resembles a small syringe.

You suddenly feel a heavy fatigue threatening to overcome you.

You sink down to one knee. You look up and notice the guards reloading their rifles.

Do you:

A. Charge them with everything you've got and try to close in melee. (DC: Medium-Hard)
B. Order your teammates to break out while you block the hallway as best you can. (DC: Easy)
C. Try to take out as many of them as you can with your spear gun. (DC: Medium-Easy)

You gather your strength and howl in defiance. You throw your combi-stick forward and impales their command through the chest. In three bounding leaps you're upon them, and cut two down with your wrist blades. You wrench your spear from the commander's corpse and draw an arc across the hall, slicing two more soldiers in half.

A fist suddenly slams you in the chest. You turn to face a synthetic. He puts a knee into your belly, draws a pistol, and puts two more darts point blank into your waist.

You slowly feel the strength draining from your body.

Suddenly, the synthetic's head explodes in a burst of milky fluid. A human, draped from head to tow in a black bodyglove slices into a second synthetic with his knife while firing a burst of slugs into several guards with his sub-machine gun. He pulls the knife from the synthetic's eye socket and flings it down the hall, killing another guard.

He takes something from his belt and jams it into your chest. You feel something enter your body and your head suddenly clears, the lethargy slowly draining from your body.

Several more guards thunder down the hallway. The black-clothed human fires a burst towards them.

You raise your spear gun and plant a spear solidly into the chest of an oncoming guard. The human empties his magazine into a second guard, and draws his pistol.

He points to you, and says, in heavily accented Yautja, "Too many. You - go. I, hold. I, follow."

You step back and fire two more spears, while turning to join. Burning-Scythe and Sharp-Strike.

You notice Sharp-Strike has taken a bullet in his left leg, and is limping as a result.

The human begins to fall back as well, as more and more synthetics begin flooding the hallway with lethal bullets.

The human draws something from behind his back. It's a long cylinder. He smashes his palm into one of the ends. The entire facility suddenly quakes, and the lights are suddenly extinguished. A moment later, they are replaced by a dim red hue.

The human leads you into nearby room and smashes the locking mechanism with the butt of his pistol. He looks down, and notice blood seeping from his shoulder. He's wounded.

"Yes," he says. And proves it by standing up. There's a noticeable limp in his gait, but he's able to keep a good pace.

You follow Mickey through one of the rear passage ways, which curve around the security room and leads straight into the lab.

As you come to the next set of passageways, you slowly lean outwards from cover to notice several sets of patrols pacing ahead.

Whatever has the most consensus, players will argue things out though.

>>B. Take Burning-Scythe and assault the patrols head on. (Pass, DC 9)

You signal Burning-Scythe. He raises his plasma pistol and acknowledges. The two of you erupt from cover.

He charges up his shot and fires, catching two synthetics in its burst. You take aim and kill a third with your spear gun before the rest reacts.

They raise their rifles and begin to fire in your direction. Burning-Scythe fires a few bursts of plasma-bolts over their heads while you push forward and advance. You rise from cover and take another down with your spear gun.

Burning-Scythe takes down two more with his pistol as they turn to flee.

You signal your team, and together, you push forward.

You stop in front of a bulkhead gate, solidly shut. Mickey examines the locking mechanism. "Damn!" He speaks in his human tongue. He turns to you, and says in Yautja, "Locked. Only way in."

You examine the door. You suspect you may be able to cut your way in.

Do you:

A. Try to cut it open with your disc. (DC: Medium)
B. Try to pry it open with your spear. (DC: Medium)
C. Have Burning-Scythe try shooing it with his pistol on full charge. (DC: Medium-Hard)

Most popular. If he sees two options getting an equal amount of votes, he calls for a tiebreak.

Speargun has anti-armor rounds. Spear is tipped with a miniature plasma explosive (and it's only a light combi-stick we were gifted by Jackal-Of-Carrion).

Our chainsaw disc is probably our best option (we do have another heavy disc too)

>.A. Try to cut it open with your disc. (Pass, vs. DC 10)

The disc hums as the blades begin to spin. You depress the saw edge into the thick door. White-hot sparks burst forward as the spinning blade makes contact. You slowly press the disc into the metal, and fortunately, it manages to cut through, though with some difficulty.

You slowly draw the blade downwards, and begin to cut the door apart.

"Incoming!" You hear Sharp-Strike roar. A round suddenly pings off the door next to your hand. You turn to see several synthetics taking cover on the far side of the passage.

You estimate it'll take you another minute to cut down the door.

Do you:

A. Pause and deal with the intruders first. (DC: Medium)
B. Continue cutting while your teammates hold them off.

B wins. No roll needed. Writeup incoming.
>>
>>B. Continue cutting while your teammates hold them off.

"Hold them off!" you instruct your team, as you put your attention into cutting the door down.

Beside you, you can hear the crackling of Burning-Scythe's pistol, the chatter of Mickey's gun, and even the occasional whine of Sharp-Strike's plasma-caster.

You patiently make one full revolution with your disc. You bowl your shoulder into the center of your cutout and the heavy plate falls over.

You stash your disc and turn. You check to see if your targeting systems have rebooted from the EMP, and after making sure it has, begin to fire at the assaulting guards.

"Go!" You roar.

Your teammates duck behind you and enter through the hole you have cut out. You fire two more shots and duck through to the other side yourself.

Do you:

A. Continue your way down the passage ahead.
B. Throw a few mines around the broken door.

You forget that they have synthetics that would gladly set off the mines if ordered to do so, possibly screwing our only exit.
>>
>>25295891
>>B. Throw a few mines around the broken door.

As you reach the other side, you thumb your mine dispenser a few times and scatter several mines around the entrance. Wasting no time, you continue to press forward.

You run past a series of sterilized rooms, you notice a variety of specimens trapped within, in various states.

Suddenly, as you glance at a room on your right, a black beast leaps towards you, and smashes itself against the glass wall between you and it. You see several more hard-meat drones running within.

"You've got to be fucking kidding me, " you hear Mickey whisper under his breath in his native tongue.

You see a panel nearby, and a button labeled "Emergency Specimen Disposal".

Do you:

A. Put a remote mine on the glass wall.
B. Hit the button.
C. Leave it and keep going.

You slam the button with your fist. Several sentry guns drop down from the ceiling and begin to open fire on the drones beneath.

You waste no time in watching the results.

In front of you, Burning-Scythe stops next to the last room in the long hall way and shouts, "Here!"

Simultaneously, you hear a series of explosions trigger behind you. You glance to see several figures advancing down the passage.

Burning-Scythe slams his wrist-blade into the door and pries it open. You rush inside to find Ashen-Blade stripped and strapped to an operating table. he looks to be unconscious.

You take your disc and cut the metallic bindings holding him in place. Mickey rushes over and gives him a shot of antidote.

Ashen-blade stirs, and slowly sits up. He looks around, and shakes his head. "Three-Claw?" he mutters.

"We must go," Mickey tells you, and points to the passage outside.

Ashen-Blade takes a few steps and shakes his head, attempting to clear it. "Where's my gear?" He asks.

"Somewhere in the lab," Mickey tells him.

B. Tell him you need to escape the facility first.

>>A. Try to track down Ashen-Blade's gear

"I'll look for it," you tell him. You switch your vision mask to tech mode, and find a strong signature down a secondary hallway.

"Wait here," you tell your teammates.

You quickly cross to the other side and sprint down the hallway. You follow your tech vision which leads you into an adjoining room. As you enter, a bullet suddenly pings off the door frame.

You look to see a terrified scientist holding a pistol at you. His heart is beating quickly, and his hand is trembling hard.

You rush to his position, grip the pistol, and tear it away from him. You leave him to his pathetic mewling as you track down the source of the tech emissions. You find a large storage chest to the far wall. You slice through the lock and pry open the lid to find a full set of war gear neatly cataloged. You slam the lid shit and hoist it over your shoulder.

As you turn to leave, you notice a series of data chips sitting on a nearby desk. They are video recordings of experiments. You take the most recent one and play it back with your monitor.

To your horror, you realize you're looking at a recording of Ashen-Blade, strapped to an operating table. A Weyland scientist is pressing what seems to be a hard-beat facehugger onto the warrior's face.

The recording ends there.

Your spine chills. You look at the date of the recording. It was less than seven hours ago. If you can get Ashen-Blade to a surgical pod, quickly, you may be able to save his life.

You quickly make your way back to your team.

>>
>>25296333
Seeing something like this I wouldn't be suprised for Three-Claws to just go pure full on hulk smash with anger.

I recently re-read an AVP novel and a bunch of unblooded lose the blooded warriors taking them on a hunt, so they act stupid and kill all sorts of everything - including humans which are restricted solely to blooded warriors (unless special circumstances like sharp-strike), and they take trophies from them. Upon a blooded warrior finding them with human trophies in their possession, he gets so angry that he beats the ring leader to a violent death the second he notices the trophy. He them proceeds to murder all the other unblooded who took trophies as well.

Temporary Incoherent Rage is a *very* yaujta experience.

>>
>>25296502
agreed.
>>
>>25296502
pretty much this, we need to leave as little evidence here as possible yet get to our ship as fast as possible, that means killing this scientist and running the fuck out of here throwing mines every which way

The only way Ashen-Blade will live is if we get him to our ship's medpod fast enough, while destroying evidence here on the way out would be good, we might not have the luxury of time here, we still have our ships awesome guns and torps we can reduce this facility to a crater with, so as long as we get Ashen-Blade to our ship ASAP we're good
>>
>>25296502
But there's no honor in that.
>>
>>25296571
Now is not the time to fuck around worrying about honour, we are not here on a hunt, we are here for Ashen-Blade and info surrounding his mission and its results, if we fuck around with honour and take too long he will die.

Right now, we are not a hunter, but Opredator, we have no care for honour or trophies, there is only the mission, and not even swamp tentacle FIS can stop us.
>>
>>25296502

This scientist needs to be interrogated. We may get information on other WY facilities where they're doing experiments on yautja, and other scientists that need to be eliminated. And if we know how they did the implantation process it could improve the medpod's success.
>>
>>25296571
Yaujta are about honor in the *HUNT*. This isn't a hunt here, this is a rescue operation and we've been sanctioned by the clans to terminate with extreme prejudice. Wey yu is fucking around with things that they shouldn't be, and despite several anons around here wanking about 'honor', yaujta see it as perfectly acceptable to BEAT A LIVING BEING TO DEATH for either A) challenging him, B) being too stupid to live, C) fucking around with things he shouldnt, D) pissing you off.

And I mean 'living being' in the context of 'member of the same species as you'. Normally yaujta would ignore something like a harmless human, but "I was really, really, *REALLY* fucking angry after I saw what they had done" flies as a perfectly justifiable excuse to practically *every* matriarch, who usually has to listen to someone complain that a master hunter beat one of their children to death for not listening to him over something.

Yaujta are as a rule, generally not very merciful.
>>
>>25296603
>And if we know how they did the implantation process it could improve the medpod's success.

THEY STUCK A FACEHUGGER ON HIS FACE

WHAT IS THERE TO UNDERSTAND?

We gain very little from keeping these humans alive, all it does is take away valuable time we need to save Ashen-Blade's life
>>
>>25296603
We don't have time to fuck around with that. Chestbursters can pop FAST, especially if the host is under stress. Any time spent trying to get info out of this schmuck is time for the embryo to grow.
>>
>>25296603
You're being kind of retarded here. There is nothing important to gain from an interrogation of this scientist that we could not datamine from a synthetics head, furthermore dragging the scientist around slows us down when TIME IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO SAVE OUR FRIEND BEFORE A PREDALIEN ABOMINATION POPS OUT OF HIS CHEST AND KILLS HIM.

And there's nothing fucking complex about the implantation, they stick a hugger on his face while he's knocked out.
>>
>>25296623

Hence we grab the scientist and hightail it to the ship. Once we get the chestburster out of Ashen-Blade, we can interrogate the scientist and throw him out the airlock when we're done with him.
>>
>>25296571
There is even less honour in getting Ashen-Blade killed because you thought this was a hunt when it is instead a mission sanctioned by the empire.

When your matriarch sends you on a mission this important, you have no care for ANYTHING other than the mission, and what is the mission?

Rescuing Ashen-Blade alive is the fucking mission, and I am not going to sit by and let you make Three-Claw fail his mission and get his friend killed because you were worried about 'mah honor'

FUCK YOU ITS SPELT WITH A 'U'
>>
>>25296639
Yeah - lets take a prisoner in a hostile facility and worry about dragging his slow ass down and trying to give us away at every fucking opportunity when time is incredibly vital to us. We don't need him, he doesn't serve a purpose, you're being a fucking retard.
>>
>>25296639
>Hence we grab the scientist and hightail it to the ship

Which will take more effort than merely grabbing Ashen-Blade and running the fuck out of there.

Why the fuck can't you understand this? We cannot spare the time or effort to even give a sidelong glance to a fucking queen that bursts out of a wall as we run the fuck back to our ship.

If we do not devote every single iota of energy we have to saving Ashen-Blade, that chestburster will pop, and our mission and friend will die with it.
