"So as soon as they approach the ambush point here-" Momo points to an area of the same canyon you and Miho had decided on earlier- "We'll open fire and annihilate them all at once!" Getting caught up in her excitement she slams her fist into the projector screen, nearly knocking it off the wall. "It's foolproof! Victory will be ours!"

You are the Commander of the M26A1 Super Pershing Black Jack, and you really hate powerpoint presentations. Also you're pretty sure than Momo has no idea what she's doing. Class President Anzu had gathered the commanders of the various tanks together to discuss strategy for tomorrow's "practice" battle against St. Glorianna's Girls School. Besides yourself and the student council, Miho, commander of the Panzer IV Medium tank, Ceasar and Erwin, who'd evidently decided to share commander duties of the StuG III Self-Propelled Gun, Azusa Sawa, the freshman commander of the M3 Lee, and Noriko Isobe, commander of the I-Go, a so-called Japanese medium tank.

You raise your hand as Momo ends her tirade/strategy pitch.

Momo looks at you, her monocle seeming to glare as much as she is. "What?" She askes, clearly annoyed that someone would question any part of her plan.

"What happens if we don't decisively defeat Glorianna at the initial ambush?" You ask simply. "Hell, what happens if we inflict no damage at all?" It's an honest question that any competant commander would ask.

"What?" She says, her face turning red in the process.

"What happens if things go wrong?" You clarify. "What you've described is an excellent plan, but a plan that needs to go off completely without a hitch and, in my experience that has never happened. Ever."

The room is silent for a moment as Momo glares at you, seemingly seconds away from combustion. Anzu is the one who finally breaks the tension. "So, you've got a better idea?"

You stand up. "Right, so before you called, me and Miho were putting together a plan." You look over at her and nod her up to the projector screen. "Okay, honestly she came up with a plan, Yukari told us what sorts of tanks we'd be looking to face and I gave some input on how to fight those tanks. Miho, wanna elaborate on everything?"

Miho blushes furiously, clearly not comfortable with being in the spotlight. "Um. Ok, so... It starts with an ambush similar to Momo's plan, but higher up the ridge, this gives us an easier escape path and the ability to pull back towards Oorai if..." She goes on to effectively, if a bit quietly, explain the plan, from the initial ambush, to you and the StuG's secondary ambush, to the city fighting and even the Alamo. You try to add in points here and there.

Azusa raises her hand. "Um. What's the Alamo?" She askes sincerely.

"It was an American battle, where only two hundred Americans defended a fort from a much larger Mexican force for nearly two weeks." Miho recounts from your description.

You point up at the area of the map Miho had designated the Alamo. "Here we've got a good defensive position so even if we're out numbered, we'll be able to hold them off and force them into a bad engagement."

Azusa nods, sitting down before raising her hand again. "Did the Americans at the Alamo win?"

Miho looks at you. You aren't about to lie to her, but you don't have to tell her the complete truth. "They held the fort for two weeks against superior numbers and killed or wounded hundreds of Mexican soldiers in that time."

The answer seems to satisfy her.

God dammit they were Texans! Texas didn't join the United States until 1846. The Alamo was in 1836. For ten intervening years it was "The Republic of Texas"!

You look over at Miho. "So, you said Darjeeling prefers infantry tanks?" You ask her, obviously moving the conversation towards a discussion on Glorianna's tanks.

Azusa's hand shoots back up and you look at her. "You know, this isn't a classroo- you don't have to raise your hand for every question." You say with a grin.

She looks down embarassed. "Oh, um, sorry. But, what are infantry tanks?"

Miho smiles patiently. "British tanks were developed in two basic types- cruisers were fast but poorly armored, while infantry tanks were slow with lots of armor. Darjeeling prefers the latter- last year she fielded several Matildas and a Mk. VII Churchill." She explains.

You start where Miho left off. "We've got reason to believe that she might be broadening her interests though- it's possible that she's gotten some more advanced Cruiser tanks, either Cromwells or Comets." A quick google search brings some relevant pages up on the projector screen. "That means either a High-Velocity 75mm or 77mm Seventeen-Pounder. In case you guys aren't aware, thats a major-can of whoop-ass they can open- even Black Jack isn't immune to a Seventeen-Pounder."

The girls in the room look nervous.

HESH is better for general utility in the current operating environment, and APFSDS only suffers a very minor drop in power in a rifled gun.

You immediately see the morale drop when they realise what they're up again. "Relax. The guns are scary, but honestly not all that scarier than the Eight-Pounder the Churchill will have and their armor suffers for it- they might be able to take us out, but we take them out just as easily."

Miho picks up on your intentions and nods enthusiastically. "If we work together, and perform our rolls there's no reason we can't take any tank they bring to the table." This seems to encourage the rest of the commanders.

"Exactly!"

Azusa begins to raise her hand, but jams it down again before blurting out "But what about the Infantry tanks?"

Miho answers the question promptly. "The 75mm on your Lee, the StuG and my Panzer IV are all capable of knocking out the Matildas from the side or rear. Of course, the Pershing's 90mm is an overmatch for almost anything they'll bring so long as we keep them from knocking it out first."

Proactive scouting and relaying enemy positions hopefully should be enough to have the Pershing dictate the pace of the engagement.
I certainly hope this choice doesn't mean to imply that the Garupans would have to sacrifice their tanks to block shots meant for Black Jack.

An M2 Browning can reliably penetrate an I-Go at 500m - For comparison, most infantry battles were fought at ~100m, a marksman usually shot at 300-500m, and medium range for a Sherman or a PzIV was about 1km.

I could anally devastate an I-Go with an M2 Browning and some bushes to hide it in. If I got close? Yeah I bet I COULD penetrate the armor with an M1911, or if not that then probably a Mosin or an SMLE.
>>
You nod. While it was important to recognize that everyone had a role within the team, even the Volleyball Team's I-Go, they also had to realise just how crucial Black Jack would be in winning- If Black Jack were to be knocked out early in the fight it would be hard to imagine a way that Oorai could win the battle without him.

"As much as I don't like to be the center of it all, Miho's right-" You start. "The longer my Pershing is alive and firing, the more likely we are to win. I'm not saying jump in front of shots for us, but keep an eye out for us- I can't see everywhere at once."

Miho smiles again, starting to look a bit more comfortable in her new leadership role. "Above all, everyone- Have fun. Senshado isn't about winning, it's about doing something you love."

Unlikely. .45 ACP has shit penetration. This is actually a strength in law enforcement and personal defense applications, mind, but it makes the odds of it penetrating 6mm of steel pretty low. Maybe if you put it right through a a join in the armor, but even then it likely wouldn't retain sufficient velocity to be dangerous to the crew inside.

You suddenly realise something- this entire meeting Student Council President Anzu hasn't said a single word, which is highly out of character for her. You look over at her and she's boredly looking out the window, chewing on a piece of dried sweet potato. You decide to be nice and proper about how to get her attention. "Council President, do you have any thoughts on Miho's plan?"

She gazes back over towards you and Miho lazily. "Hm? It's a great plan- Momo you're out. Miho's our new chief strategist." This is the point at which Momo breaks down crying, with Yuzu quickly coming to comfort her. "...But, I don't think there's enough at stake here for either of you." She smiles and chill runs down your spine. "If we win, Miho will be overall commander of the Oorai Senshado team from here out." Miho blushes bright red again. "But, if we lose, Miho and her crew will perform the Anglerfish Dance during this week's New School Year parade."

The room hadn't exactly been loud before- most of the side discussions had been kept a whisper- but for nearly ten seconds all sound seems to be sucked from the room- even Momo had ceased crying mid-sob. Miho looks confused, Anzu looks lightly entertained and the rest of the room shared looks of horror.

You look around, completely confused. "So wait, what's the Anglerfish Dance?"

>>
>>25255422
Kannagi was about this goddess who popped out from some tree. For some reason or another, she has to gather faith from the people to survive. But that's not important.

The author introduced some evil guy who apparently was the main female's past husband. Cue otaku rage. I recall some pics of the manga getting shredded by the irate idiots too.
>>
>>25255401
Maybe if they didn't lock themselves in a tiny broom closet and watch cartoons all day, they wouldn't be bitter virgins. I watch anime, and I'm not a virgin because I make a point of going outside and interacting with people.
>>
>>25255508
Being a virgin or not is irrelevant. All that matter is you can function like a regular human even with your hobbies. Apparently otaku can't.
>>
>>25255533
Well, acting like a normal person does help the virginity thing a lot.
>>
>>25255294
Rich is going to bust a nut if we lose and he gets to see Saori dressed like that.
>>
>>25255508
It helps that US culture basically teaches us things like past boyfriends and what not are NORMAL.

In contrast with japanese culture, they focus on one true love/etc, stuff that appears charming until you find out they're applying it to real life.

can't say how much better a normal japanese person is about it, though I suspect such things are escapeism for the seeming reality that marrying a japanese woman will cause her to transform into a iron-fisted tyrant that will horribly emasculate you. (and putting even most dominating western girls to shame)
>>
>>25255183
Dude, this "quest" is basically the show expanded with male interests.

Roll with it and enjoy instead of whining "B-but I know the outcome!"

>>25255623

>>
>>25255584

Hmmm, yes and no. Culturally, a Japanese woman is conditioned to run a proper household, so yeah, one might kinda looks like she's emasculating her husband. But her situation is even worse, for any problem within the couple wil be laid squarely at her feet. Japanes traditionalism is kinda... extreme (to us westerners at least)

Not so sure about that judging from what tends to be in japanese fiction:

Shounen series where females are either A) marginalized if not powerless or B) all dying to get in his pants.

The awfully high amount of rape in japanese porn both Live action and manga

Not to mention even during JAV consensual sex, the girl sure as hell doesn't look like she's enjoying it (doujins are a bit better about it... a bit)

Ooarai's team needs the beatup to stop mucking around and get serious with both training and tactics, and actually learn how the hell their tanks are actually supposed to function. This part is alas only hinted at in the series, with a quick "Gambatte!" scene at the end of episode 4, with 5 focussing on Yukari's spying mission. Yes, it keeps the pace of the series going, but at one point, one has to drive the point of "Stop with the nonsense" home!

If we win:
>Huge morale boost for the school

>Could possibly use momentum to roll over into our match with Saunders
>We get to see Darjeeling do the Anglerfish Dance

If we lose:
>Ooarai is humiliated
>Anglerfish dance later used as rallying cry later with Pravda (maybe)
>As an alternative, our team does this dance and drop the panties of every single woman on the carrier in one swift move:

>>25255820
Indeed it does... and it does explain why he has an element of wildness now. (The man tiptoes the line between H and non-H if not put 1.5 feet over it)

It makes me wonder about japanese culture and how things are connected:

So pandering to the Japanese audience means moeshit, shounenshit, shitty females, rape, or any combination.

Almost enough to make me wish for them to pander to the (seen as nonexistant) western markets, but really that'd just be FREEDOM! and whatnot. Seems to me it's kinda like Hollywood and Big Media and Big Gaming - They want proven moneymakers, not what's new and different and original.

My point remains this: >>25256002

Hentai/Shounen is for weak female leads and all that traditional shit. A bit is fine, but when all you write is "Weak female needs strong man to save her" or "Female wants the dick, doesn't want to admit it" then that's about the same as just drawing titties and way-too-short skirts. You might draw good titties, but you've clearly never seen good lingerie (Or even better, a tasteful and elegant dress) which makes it oh-so-much sexier.

When you fall back on "What Works", you destroy creativity. Aku no Hana has an awful awful art style, ugly as stinky sweaty balls, but it's also completely distinctive from it's contemporaries, and I gotta give them credit for that.

This also carries over into why I don't like the current moe trend. Schoolgirls in sailor uniforms, shows that can be summed up with "Cute girls doing cute things" or "What happens when nothing happens". Twenty minutes of kawaii-uguu or going over to Friend-chan's house isn't Good. It might be fun to watch, you might enjoy it, I'm not saying you--Wait, yes. Yes I am saying your favorite anime is shit. Not because it's low quality, it's not, but because it's bog-standard and unoriginal. Vidya has the same problem - Explosions and Cool Stuff are not a substitute for good writing, creativity, and character development. I'm not saying that all change is good change, I'm saying that change is good and stagnation is bad.

Yeah it'd be one thing if it was a part of a thing but not when it's overly dominant. It's interesting how the Slice of Life Genre mutated from Azumanga Daioh (the original) to yuri fodder moeshit with something else tacked on or reference flooded (Kyoani's handling of Lucky Star)

But your point about change is spot on.

to be fair, kyou ani's adaption of lucky star improved it. god damn that 4koma was dull. the yuri may have been tropy and the references cheep, but it filled up what was an otherwise complete boring monotony.

I prefer normal SoL than yuri fodder soaked in references.

THough to be honest, Lucky Star is likely the basis of what passes for modern SoL. As comparing the two, AD seems to be better balanced than LS.

>yuri fodder moeshit
Except Azumanga Daioh had a lesbian more blatant than most girls in series loosely described by that string of buzzwords you call an argument.

There is no such thing as 'current moe trend'. It's the same now what was when Azumanga Daioh aired.
You just started seeing yuri where there isn't any. That's called 'yuri goggles', and let me tell you the ones this board wears are more powerful than /u/'s. Quite an achievement, I say.

I wasn't commenting on how bad it was to have male characters. I was commenting on the breaks of canon that had to occur for that to happen.
And before you argue that the dudes are necessary to prevent yuri faggotry, the actual series had neither.
You could've perfectly had the MC of this quest be female, which would be canon approved, and it would only be yuri because YOU, the players, made it so.
And the QM would've obliged. Some fault is with him too.

Why are you so butthurt about people having fun on the internet? You don't like this quest's premise and settings? Okay, fine, no problem! But please, keep the fuck out of here, and stop shitting the thread up!

Besides Kaori (Who was likely a follower fangirl than one that wants to get in their pants), there was no such sign that there was anything being particularly pushed.

Lucky Star on the other hand, emphasized two characters which also made a VERY popular yuri couple at the expense of everyone else. One thing I couldn't fault KyoAni on is how subtle they made the subtext.... well until the OVA which it proceeded to go about it with the subtlety of Nanoha StrikerS (or "What subtlety?")

The manga itself on the other hand has no such issues.

The difference between yuri fodder and yuri goggles is how the show staff handles it. GuPQ is a case of the staff trying their best to avert it, thus seeing yuri in that is yuri goggles. Yuri fodder is the opposite, adding subtext that while overlooked by the unwitting adds fuel to the fans' fire, or in StrikerS' case, all but tell you they're an item.

>Something with only girls
>Not attracting /u/'s legions

That's like having something with 99% attractive males and not expecting /y/ to storm the story.

In short in such a scenario, it'd have ended up yuri and there wouldn't be much of anything that could be done about it.

I can't decide if that should be arousing or disturbing.

One series that never legally saw the light of day across the pond that was pretty awesome was Minami-Ke.

Maybe all the cross-dressing scared people off...
