You are Captain Numeon Smith, commanding officer of the Aprior sector Joint Task Force, which has just arrived in the system of Volkgarod. Your latest mission, to cleanse the world of the Ork invasion which has blighted it and make safe the world once more.

You have just arrived in system, and the vox is filled already with cries for aid, though the local forces do not yet know of your presence.

your task force stands as follows.

SpecOps: ASIS task force, Eldar Ranger squad.

Air Support: Valkyrie Avenger dropships, Shrike air-space fighters.

Heavy Armor: Fenris main battle tanks, precision rocket artillery.

Infantry Support: Sisters of Battle, Battlesuit Team.

Special Units: Confessor, Tau Commander.

Content will begin momentarily.

We're going to want to filter through those transmissions, and begin orbital surveys of the planet to identify Ork concentrations before we nuke them from orbit.
>>
>>25241202

"Captain." Captain Darvis says.

"We are monitoring numerous vox signals from Volkgarod, though I doubt they are being directed at us purposefully."

"Put them through." You say.

Darvis nods and pushes a few buttons on his lectern, the vox swiftly becoming awash with overlayed vox transmissions.

After a few seconds he narrows them down to a few transmissions, clear enough for you to get a general picture of what is happening on the surface.

"Enemy forces have breached the defensive line!" Shouts one.

"They have broken through!" says another, "The capitol has been breached!"

"Hold the line, not one step further." A third growls.

Darvis analyses the signals for a few moments more.

"Sir, I have pinpointed the source of the signals, the majority of pertinent vox transmissions are issuing from a single place, presumably the capitol. Using their vox signals as a beacon, we can deploy there immediately, via dropships, gunships, or drop pod."

Questions? What is the disposition of your forces? General orders?
>>
>>25241380
You are still too far out for a direct bombardment, you may attempt such action when you draw closer.
>>
>>25241384
Have the Shrikes do a pass over the capitol as we return a vox transmission, and have the Knights, Sisters, battlesuits, and tanks be ready to drop.
Knights in drop pods, others in dropships and gunships.

"This is Captain Smith of the Aprior Sector Joint Task Force, responding to the distress signal from the Volkgarod system. Please prepare for orbital support and reinforcements."

Can our sensors get any readings on where the Ork horde is located and if we can support with orbital batteries?
>>
>>25241499
Are you in the drop pod as well?
>>
>>25241384
Do orbital scanning indicate enemy emplacements capable of engaging our landing craft. If so, have our elite units drop pod or Valkyrie in to disable them to clear the way for the guard. Otherwise, Sisters of battle, battlesuits, ASIS, Rangers and knights will deploy by thunderhawk, dropship and valkyrie to support critical portions of the main line while the rest of our forces deploy from dropships.

I assume that dropships are more vulnerable to enemy fire, so we shouldn't deploy them directly on the front lines.

Also, somebody find someone to give us a situation report
>>
>>25241553
how did I just spoil all of that?
>>
>>25241591
No, the players have just made all the correct choices up to this point.

I am actually surprised how they picked what was always the exactly correct decision to any given situation.

They also got some very good roles where it counted.

My three guesses as to what's happening:

It sounds like a group of 40k people are having fun the way another group doesn't like.

Then again, it could be the anti-quest fags too, who usually hit newer/younger quests to try and troll them away.

Also it's Summer.

"Launch the gunships, follow the signals to the capitol and get in fast and hard, I want any Ork AAA eliminated to make way for the dropships. Have a squad meet me at the drop bay, we are leading the way.

And get the Shrikes in the air, use them to screen the battlefield. Get someone important on the vox, I need to know the situation down there!"

You leave Darvis to his work and rush through the halls to the drop bay, your senior staff peeling towards the launch bays.

You arrive to find your fire team already strapping in.

"Captain." You hear the cool voice of Lieutenant Reed, the tactical officer on your vox.

"We will be in optimal drop range shortly, in the meantime I have the local commander on the horn sir, patching him through now."

A moments static is replaced by a somewhat frantic voice, the heavy Vostroyan accent clear.

"Hello! Hello, this is General Ivan Zhukov of the Volkgarod first army to, whoever you are. Our situation is very grim down here, these monsters have breached our defenses and are in the process of storming the capitol! Tell me, how many men did you bring to the fight?"

"This is Captain Smith of the Aprior Sector Joint Task Force, responding to the distress signal you sent. Please prepare for orbital support and reinforcements. Hang on general, help is on the way."

The lights in the pod go red and with a thunderous bang you are launched out of the Midnight Flame and into the cold depths of space.

You lead your brothers in their pre-battle rites, asking for wisdom to see the true path, and the strength to see it through.

You plummet into the atmosphere, shaking and battered by winds. Your descent smooths after a minute or so, and soon the retro rockets kick in and you are slammed into the ground, the doorways slamming open with a loud hiss.

"Knights, move out." You rush towards the sound of gunfire, leaping through a window and into a building as you go.

Climbing to the top of the structure, you get a good look at the fight unfolding beneath you.

A few squads of Volkgarod soldiers have dug themselves in behind sandbags and the bodies of their dead comrades, and are desperately fighting against a small horde of Orks charging at them.

Small being something of a relative term where Orks are involved of course, and it seems like they are about to be overrun, their autoguns and two heavy stubbers serving only to blunt the charge, but they do not seem able to stop it.

Neither side is currently aware of your presence on the rooftop.

"Knights, grab cover and ready up."

You slide into cover as your brothers crouch as well as they can behind chimneys and small walls.

"Light them up." You say coolly as you draw a bead on the Ork nearest the guard post.

To the soldiers fighting below, it must seem that the charging Orks brain simply exploded, bits of skull flying everywhere.

One of your brothers throws a grenade into the charging mass, another slagging an ork with a plasma gun. The defenders take heart at this sudden assistance and pour in the fire on the charging Orks.

The horde slows for a moment, many orks looking around, but they seem to loose interest again as they see the soldiers firing back.

With a deafening "WAAAAAGH!" the orks charge once again, shooting massive pistols with terrible accuracy as they charge towards melee range with the soldiers below.

State continuing tactics and roll to continue the fight, be advised that the surviving orks are growing near to the defenders post.

"Knights, lay down suppression fire, I shall distract the brutes and lead them away from the battle, cut them down as they are distracted."

You rise from cover and charge down the rooftop, leaping across to the neighboring roof. From there you drop down behind the orkish horde and swing out opening fire on them.

"Light up the night!" You bellow at the top of your lungs.

None of the orks seem to notice you.

You continue firing. "Come and face me if you are brave enough, only cowards run from a fight!"

Two orks take notice, one looking to the other.

"Shouldn't we go 'krump 'im?"

"Nah." Says the other, "Deres more humies over dere!"

They are about to leave when you issue your final challenge.

"GORK IS BETTER THAN MORK!"

The horde slows for a moment, the ones towards the back turning to stare at you, red beady eyes narrowed in anger.

"I fink hes roight." Says one before another shoots him in the face.

"GET 'IM! WAAAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!!!"

You empty the rest of the magazine into the onrushing hoard, most of the orks now chasing you down.

You have successfully drawn the attention of the screaming orkish horde, what was the next part of this plan?

Run. Fast. Now.
But really, run very fast away from the horde, stretching them out so that the Knights can cut them down.
>>
>>25243160
Which books have a good example of how Orks think or act?
And don't they change from one book to another?
>>
>>25243160
Orks were originally based off of English rugby hooligans, and basically nobody actually writes orkish dialogue, so I improvised.

What would you suggest to improve the style?
>>
>>25243061
"Knights, covering fire!"

You turn and run from the onrushing mass of orks, firing a few shots over your shoulder as you run.

You stop every few seconds, firing a few shots and throwing a grenade or two.

You see that the orks left at the guard post have been dealt with by your battle brothers, who are now firing into the rear of the horde chasing you, so preoccupied with avenging the slight to their gods that they do not notice their dying brethren.

There are a little over one dozen orks left, and your back is to the buildings at the end of the street, the windows and doors are no obstacle to you, but drawing the orks inside would cut off your brothers line of fire.

How do you proceed?
>>
>>25243334
Is it possible to go through a door, through the building, out the other side, and then circle back to lead the orks back towards our brothers?
>>
>>25243423
Considering previously seen methods used by the Knights for breaching buildings, that is most doable.
>>
>>25243440
Then let's do it.
>>
>>25243458

You leap through a window and charge across what had once been a bar, smashing through the wall like so much cardboard. You breach the next two walls in similar fashion, skidding out onto the next street, which is mercifully free of orks.

You are about to circle around to lead them back into the killzone, when you hear a great commotion in the bar behind you.

Turning, you see that the orks are attempting to follow your path through the walls, but the small openings you left leave them bottlenecked as they try to follow you.

You hear shouted profanity, and a few gunshots, the first ork pushing through the hole towards you.

You raise your bolter and shred him, regaining their attention. Using their choppas to hack their way towards you, the pursue again as you dash off around the building.

You come back into the first street just as the final ork squeezes through the hole, it shouts profanity and tries to run back after you.

As you approach the guard post the local soldiers and knights open fire, the last ork dropping dead a few feet behind you as you approach the sandbags.

The soldiers stare at you, eyes wide under their steel helmets, equal parts awe and dread.

How do you proceed?

You set one boot on the sandbags before you, raising your smoking bolter in one hand, the light of the iron grey sky casting your shadow over the troopers before you.

"The Cavalry has arrived."

"Who," the squad leader chokes, "What?" he continues to mouth words but cannot seem to find his breath.

"I am Captain Smith, of the Knights Inductor Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes, and commander of the Aprior Sector Joint Task Force. We are responding to your distress call. Where is the next fight?"

After a moment, the soldier got on his bulky vox and shakily calls in his situation to his commander.

"There is a battle... with the invaders at the opera square, some of your..." He looks you up and down, "People are already there."
>>
>>25243786
Who was it that landed at the Opera Square?
Have all groups radio in their location and situation.

Have the Midnight Flame and other ships arrived in Geo-synchronous orbit and can they provide a map of the city?
>>
>>25243786

Because I felt it would be wrong to pop thread up with just saying "second".

Keep calm and carry on.

Anyway, do we have some sort of tactical overwatch from our ship above? What's the situation on the opera square? How many orks there? Any convenient choke points?
>>
>>25243786
You then receive a vox call from elsewhere in the city, you recognize the voice of Cypress.

"Captain, we have made planetfall and engaged the enemy near what seems like some form of theater about half a click from your position. We have linked up with local forces and are facing heavy resistance, I request your assistance.

You hear the sounds of bolter fire over the vox

"Advise that you fall back sir, it seems that you are in enemy territory."

As she speaks, you check your slate as a map of the city glows into existence.

Vael and the battlesuits are supporting several teams of guardsmen near the Imperial outpost, Cypress and her sisters have linked up with a few knights and local forces.

The ASIS team and rangers are roving the firing lines striking targets of opportunity, and your armored and infantry groups have formed a rough ring around the center of the city, with the Orks controlling the outer sections of the city.
>>

>>
>>25244003

>>25244003
Alright, let's have us and our squad of Knights make best speed to Cypress' position.

We should tell Colonel O'Neill to have Guard troops begin making planetfall to support the tanks.

Have the Shrikes provide air support.

And can the Midnight Flame strike at Ork controlled territory outside the city, or is there too much of a chance of civilian casualties?
>>
>>25244103

"This is Captain Smith to all forces, fall back and consolidate defenses with local forces."

You wave for your Knights to follow you, the local soldiers deciding to follow along as well as you proceed.

You have a few minutes march to the battlezone, and it is thankfully free of orks. You arrive at the Opera Square to see it consumed in fire.

You easily pick out Cypress standing tall on the battlements, brothers and sisters pouring fire into the massed greenskins below, gunfire and orkish war cries seeming to compete over which is loudest.

You are currently on the other side of the battle from your people, with the orkish mass between you and the defensive line.

be advised that current assets include the Shrike fighters as well as being able to call upon the battlesuit team. More JTF reinforcements are being landed in the city center as you speak.

>>25244171
At present, the impenetrable cloud cover prevents orbital targeting. If you were to plant a targeting beacon groundside then the 'Flame could fire from high orbit with fair accuracy.

You activate your vox. "Hatchet leader, this is the Captain, requesting priority airstrike 75 yards north of my current position, clear the horde out, be advised friendlies in the area. I am lasing the target."

You activate the laser designator on your helmet and wait for a few moments.

"Roger Captain, Hatchet five inbound."

You hear the distant rumble build to a great shriek as the fighter flies over, precision munitions raining down into the orkish horde below, bits of ork flying this way and that. The horde is bloodied, but far from broken.

Roll to engage the enemy if that is your choice.

"Knights, open fire on the leader!"

You and your squad open up on the leader, bolter fire screaming downrange towards the large ork. But between the range and the chaos of battle, most of the bolts impact around the nob rather than on him, although a few do tear deep rents in his armor, possibly injuring him.

He turns and sweeps the area with his beady eyes, settling on a likely place and rushing towards it, not that far from your position, dragging his personal squad with him.

You turn to your allies.

"Secure this area, that nob may find us before we can link up with allies."

The Shrikes continue their attacks on the ork horde, and between the pounding of the tanks and bolters and the continuous airstrikes, it seems that they are wavering.

Suddenly you hear a scraping off to the side. Turning, you see the ork nob and his, what, his honor guard? approaching, peeking through destroyed windows, the nob bludgeoning them along whenever he thinks it is needed or he needs a laugh.

Clearly the Nob has a powerful lucky charm on his body. We need to loot him after he eventually dies!

Either that or he becomes our nemesis.

is the winner anyway

"Team, go to ground, avoid contact."

You slowly slide back down the rubble slope out of the line of sight of the nob and his party.

Your Knights perform adequately in their bulky armor, but some of the local soldiers, weary as they are from constant battle, and some loose stones and bricks fall down the slope.

The nobs head perks up, and he begins to advance in your direction weapons at the ready, jogging forwards with his men lagging behind.

He seems very excited at the prospect of imminent battle, but he has not yet seen you or the locals.

They will be upon you in seconds and your attempts at concealment have yielded to them the high ground.

Describe your next action and roll accordingly.

Do we have some proximity bombs? If so, give him the Mon Calamari treatment while continuing to move away.
>>
>>25245590
Coordinated attack with a decoy.
Throw a grenade somewhere off to the side. As soon as the Nob's attention is on the explosion, have all everyone focus their fire on the Nob.

Oops, forgot the dice.

going with this one

"Knights." You vox from the safety of your helmet.

"Prepare to engage."

You draw a grenade and prime it. Careful to not expose your arm, you chuck it over your head towards the approaching orks.

You hear the gentle ping of the grenade impacting.

"Oi, lookit dis!" You hear one ork say exitedly, "I found a gren BOOM."

With the explosion you and your team rise as one from cover and open fire on the approaching orks.

With no cover to hid behind the orks have little chance against your concentrated fire. The nob makes it closest, crawling forwards after you shoot off his knees before you end him with a single shot to the head.

Looking up, you see that the battle blow has mostly concluded, with a pack of Fenris tanks running roughshod over the retreating greenskins.

"Captain." You hear Cypress vox. "You allright? the greenskins are retreating back to their holds in the outer city and we're holding the line here, but we're still getting the JTF landed. I don't think we're ready for a major offensive just yet."

You hear the howl of a Shrike passing overhead, and a few distant explosions signal another pack of dead orks.

"Come on over Captain and get settled in, it seems that we are under siege for the time being."

Anything to say?
>>
>>25245976

Make a quick check for targets of opportunity. Like other Nobs who might have fallen behind. But don't pursue (too far). We should meet the boss and get briefed on the situation on strategic level.

>>25245976
Understood. See if we can't get the planetary governor and the head of the PDF along as well.
>>
>>25246046

>92
>you picked wrong vox channel and the governor now think you want to dispose of him

just kidding.
>>
>>25246041
You take a few shots at some fleeing orks as you walk across the battlefield.

When you arrive at the battle lines you see Cypress standing atop a pile of broken masonry directing a group of gawping locals to clean up a pile of mangled ork. As you approach, she turns to you and signs the Aquila.

"Captain, good to see you in once piece after this reception."

"Certainly a hot landing." You agree.

"Well, now that he is not in danger of being ork food, the planetary governor and the local general wanted to talk to you as soon as possible."

She points over her shoulder to a large building with colorful spires reaching for the grey sky.

"That great pile of masonry is the palace, I can handle things here."

Anything else to say here?
>>
>>25246159
damn, took of my name by mistake, its me guys, not the pranksters from before.
>>
>>25246159

Remain safe, and stay alert. We don't know how extensive Ork infestation is yet.

(or do we? I certainly hope they don't have gargants buzzing around... or what are those titan-class things called.)

Let's meat... er, meet the one in charge here.
>>
>>25246246
what he said.
>>
>>25246246
You march through the destroyed streets towards the palace, passing busy JTF members and awestruck locals.

You eventually reach the palace, and the guards admit you to the large structure.

You are escorted down through stairwells entirely too small for your great bulk into a bunker deep below the palace itself.

There another pair of shaky guards admit you to the room beyond.

It seems that you have reached the command center for the defense of the capitol. Crude vox gear line the edges of the room and paper maps are strewn across the central table. Numerous junior officers man the vox gear while a number of senior officers, distinguishable by their number of medals and large pointed hats, watch over the map table with bewildered expressions.

All around is the buzzing news of the newcomers to the battle, an unknown friendly force with weapons unlike any before seen.

You take a step forward and gently clear your throat. The room goes dead silent.

"I am Captain Smith of the Aprior Joint Task Force, who is in charge here?"

After a moment, everyone points to a man behind the map table. He wears a military uniform like the rest, but with no medals or rank pins. He wears a rather large mustache and has a pipe in his mouth.

"Governor, me and my men have come to aid you in this time of crisis, I require a local officer to liase with my forces to ensure smooth operations here."

"It's Secretary General actually." He says, remaining cool unlike his subordinates. "and General Zhukov here will be most satisfactory in this endeavor."

"Excellent." You say, I shall need to know the whole story."

>>25246493
From what General Zhukov tells you they have been being pushed back at a punishing rate for months, ever since the ork rocks crashed into the planet from an unknown origin.

Lacking the technology to overcome the orks numbers, the Volkgarod army decided to match numbers with numbers, turning out its massive forces to attack the orks. This meatgrinder tactic has slowed them down, but they still pushed into the capitol itself, and it was only your timely intervention which prevented a complete rout.

Looking ahead, there are still a great many orks in unknown locations around the planet, entire cities have gone dark, and the ork forces still have you trapped within the city itself.

Any other questions to ask, I think I am winding down for the night unfortunately, the boss needs me to be at work really early in the morning so I can't be up till 11 like usual, and I need to think about where this campaign is going before I write myself into a corner.

Any questions now asked will be answered to the best of my abilities.
>>
>>25246493
Secretary General Stalin?
If he tries to initiate a purge among our personnel, we glass the capitol.
>>
>>25246651
Evocative of him, but 'General Secretary' was the nametag of a very supportive constructive player a few threads back, and I try to include player names in the story where I can.

As for purging, you shall have to wait and see how things develop in future chapters.
>>
>>25246639

Will it help if we take ship's guns and give the Ork meteorite impact area a once over?

Other than that, we should find an adequately defensible location from which to commence our attack. Any special geographic features we should know about? Like mountain passes, large rivers...

In any case, I'm going to go to sleep as well. Cheers for the action, OP!
>>
>>25246639
What are the largest Ork life forms seen so far?
We can likely do orbital bombardments of abandoned cities and of Ork concentrations between human-occupied areas.
What is the status of the Imperial outpost, and has their astropath provided better estimates for when other reinforcements will arrive?
>>
>>25246778

The outpost has not received any specifics, but you know from Aprior command that an unknown force has been mobilized to assist, although you do not know who is coming, how many are coming, or when they will arrive.

>>25246764
Lacking any satellite networks, the locals do not know the exact location of the impact, and the ever present cloud cover prevents you from locating it from orbit.

A full planetary map is being built from the local maps in the hololith, you will be aware of any important geological features before your next action.
>>
>>25246849
Why do I get a sense that the approaching Imperial reinforcements will be more trouble than the Orks?
It's going to be Black Templars, or Sisters of Battle, isn't it?
>>
>>25246849
Can our Manufactorum make surveillance satellites in a timely manner?

If so, we should build a few.

Mainly, though, we need to consolidate the capitol & search for the warboss of the Waagh.
>>
>>25246849
During our orbital drop, was there any Ork AAA?
If I remember my Ork fluff correctly, Ork WAAAGH's have to reach a certain maturity before they rediscover certain technologies and weapons.
>>
>>25247195
Our next two requisitions need to be Silencers and that Tech Magos.
The Silencers so we have a FUCK YOU! to any Warp fuckery, and the Tech Magos so we can get some obvious tech upgrades like recon drones and maybe a Trooper exoframe that we can dress up as a Knight and use as a decoy.
>>
>>25247251
Tech Magos definitely seemed like or next logical upgrade, along with Bombers (air superiority is best superiority).
>>
>>25247195
Perhaps, but a major problem is that the world has a very thick cloud layer, making direct visual observation from orbit difficult.

Something to think on in the coming sections.

>>25247203
Some AAA, but it was swiftly dealt with by your SpecOps elements and Shrike airstrikes.
