You are Captain Numeon Smith of the Knights Inductor chapter of space marines, and commander of the Aprior sector Joint Task Force, which has just finished securing the world of Tyrae from the threat of a genestealer infestation.

Currently you have been invited to a formal reception by governor Varan, to celebrate the worlds recovery, and to show the people that the war for their world has largely come to a close. You are just preparing to leave now.

Your task force stands as follows.

SpecOps: ASIS task force, Eldar Ranger squad.

Air Support: Valkyrie Avenger dropships, Shrike air-space fighters.

Heavy Armor: Fenris main battle tanks, precision rocket artillery.

Infantry Support: Sisters of Battle, Battlesuit Team.

Special Units: Confessor, Tau Commander.

Sorry for the late start, work kept me an hour and a half longer than it had any right to do so, I will be posting some content momentarily.

Strip that bastard that hid critical information from us of his rank and privileges, confine him to quarters, and call home for a replacement.

Lets get going.

Deciding to attend the function, it's good to keep friendly ties to the people and government after all, you send word to have your armor prepared to appropriate standards for ceremonial use.

About an hour later you head down to don your armor, looking over the state of the faithful set of wargear.

The suit has been stripped of all camouflage paint and reduced to polished ceramite, gleaming white/grey in the light, with the Knights Inductor chapter emblem emblazoned on the shoulder once again.

Donning the suit and affixing a few magnetized medal ribbons, you set out for the palace.

As you walk, everywhere about you is an air of festivity you have not seen before on this world, the streets filled with vendors for fried and frozen treats, banners waving merrily, children racing through the crowds of citizens out for the night.

It seems that the capitol has taken the governors banquet as permission to throw a party of their own.

You reach the palace after a few more minutes of walking, and the palace guard, their fine uniforms restored but steel in their eyes, salute crisply as you enter the compound.

You walk through the palace halls again, the grim faces of previous governors mostly obscured by festive banners. You notice one face identical to that on the statue that pinned you in the broodlords lair, and grimace slightly at the memory.

When you enter the throne room you find it transformed. The great room suddenly seems much less empty, filled as it is with dozens if not hundreds of energetic party guests, many of them wheeling about on the dance floor.

The herald at the door raises his staff and strikes it three times onto the marble floor, and the room grows quiet.

"Presenting Captain Smith of the Knights Inductor, commander of the Aprior Joint Task Force."

The room bursts into applause, hundreds of smiling faces looking up at you. You wave somewhat awkwardly in return, and they resume their various activities.

The governor awaits.
>>
>>25224218
Any specific actions before you speak with him, or anything specific you would like to say?
>>
>>25224231
I must confess about a specific fault of a man I was with in the last few days...
>>
>>25224231
No, let's go up to the governor first.
We can mingle with the other guests afterwards.
>>
>>25224231
We should find and thank the PDF general. Other than that I can't think of anything for us to say. Mind you the Order of reason's light might want to establish one of their orphanages/recruiting centers here but it's not our place to bring that up.

You walk over to governor Varan, who smiles as you approach.

When you draw near the foot of his throne he goes do draw himself up, an attendant rushing over.

"Oh get off!" he scoffs, waving his walking stick, sending the attendant scurrying. Leaning heavily on his stick, he shakily rises to his feet, grunting slightly before he limps over.

"Captain, I know you must be tired of hearing this, but I wished to thank you for all that you and your men have done for this world. I'm not talking as the governor, but just another citizen of Tyrae grateful to those who came to his homes aid when it was needed."

He reaches out his hand, and you gently clasp it in your armored fist.

Response?
>>
>>25224352
"I am only too happy that our aid was in time, and that we were able to do as much good as we did. A solution to the true problem is always better than just a temporary fix, after all."
>>

"Duty unto Death."

"I am only too happy that our aid was in time, and that we were able to do as much good as we did. A solution to the true problem is always better than just a temporary fix, after all."

Varan nods, looking out over the crowd of guests.

"Yes, quite a spectacular turn of events, I had never expected this world to truly recover from that damnable storm. But now I think we have may not only recover, but even thrive. And to think, we have the genestealers to thank for it." He laughs.

"There was never a need for thanks governor, I only did my duty as I saw it before me, and I will carry that forwards until the day I die."

Varan nods, but smiles again.

"No need for such grimness now Captain, surely even Astartes must enjoy themselves sometimes. Go now, enjoy the reception, it has been far too long since these halls heard laughter."

Talk to general next?
>>
>>25224492

what did you plan to talk about?
>>
>>25224527
Thanking him for his excellent service mostly. Maybe talk about the differences between our men and other guardsmen he's seen.
>>
> Varan
AAAAAARGH QUICK KILL HIM BEFORE HE MIND CONTROLLS US INTO JOINING CHAOS

>>
>>25224527
Talk about how the PDF plans to recover and operate moving forward. How the populace views the PDF; surely their perception has improved.
>>
>>25224559
I don't get the reference to that one.
>>
>>25224492

You briefly scan the crowd before you recognize general Kiersen, the PDF commander, currently sipping amasec and listening to the live singer.

"General Kiersen." You say politely, and the general turns to face you.

"Captain, I'm glad you could make it, I feared your duties to your men would prevent you from attending."

You smile as best you can, "Nothing too serious to keep me from showing my support for the governor and his people. I also came to thank you for your service to your world in this time of crisis, your dedication to your duty has been exemplary."

"Thank you my lord." He says a bit weakly, seeming to buckle a bit under the praise of an Astartes. The silence stretches until you break it.

"How do you plan on moving the PDF forwards after this general, certainly your people must be more well loved among the populace now."

TBC
>>
>>25224527
I got nothing in particular
>>
>>25224635

"Well our reputation certainly has improved, and now that the root cause of the problems facing us are being dealt with I am hopeful that people will stop venting their frustrations on us.

We have implemented a civil preparedness training program as your people suggested, and it seems to be off to a good start."

He fixes you with a thoughtful gaze.

"I must say Captain, that of the few guard regiments I have had the pleasure of interacting with, yours is the most, unique.

Your men are very well trained, highly disciplined, and their gear would inspire envy in the heart of the finest Cadian. And I must say that they are very, diverse."

You gaze at him questioningly.

"I was surveying the aftermath of one of your battles and happened to see a wounded guardsmen being tended to by his companion.

The wounded man bled blue if I was not mistaken, and I saw his skin, a tau I believe."

Your gaze hardens a little, but you let him continue. The general does not speak for a long moment.

"So there I was, standing alone in the aftermath of battle, smoke and rubble around, seeing a human tending to a wounded tau as though they were the closest of friends."

TBC
>>
>>25224772
oh shit son!

You really do love those cliff hangers dont you Storm Raven?
>>
>>25224772
"But then." He continued, "A curious thing happened. I blinked, and I could only see a guardsman tending to his wounded comrade. A most curious development indeed."

Kiersen smiles a little, mostly to himself, and lets out a light laugh.

"I have heard a few rumors about the Aprior sector, some good some bad, some I didn't even know how to define. But I don't put much stock in hearsay, I trust what I can see. And all I saw was a guardsman who fought and bled for my world, and for that, he has my thanks."

Kiersen reaches over and picks up a second goblet of amasec, handing it to you.

"To the guard." He says, raising his glass.

"To the guard." you respond, and the pair of you drink.

Anything else to say, to Kiersen?

>>25224815

>>
Yeah there really isn't much to say. Though I am enjoying this wind down and aftermath chapter.

We should see how our little entrepraneur tech priest is doing with his tank contract.
>>
>>25224837
You finish your drink and separate after a final farewell.

Walking through the throne room, you look over to see Techpriest Kalec standing to one side of the party, speaking to another man. Kalec is holding a glass of champagne in one of his mechadendrites while he energetically gestures with his hands.

As you walk over he pauses his conversation to wave hello.

"Kalec." You greet, "You seem to be enjoying yourself this evening."

"Quite so Captain." He says, leaning back against the railing.

"I was just speaking to mister Abrams here about his world's future relationship with the Aprior sector."

"Indeed." Says Abrams, "Your homeland has a great many things to offer Tyrae. After the repairs to the infrastructure are completed, we can begin working on actually upgrading production. If we do out jobs right, Tyrae may be looking forwards to a new era of prosperity."

"I am pleased to see everything is working out for you both." you say.

"Your assistance has been noted favorably by the workshops of the Aprior sector, the Fenris production lines have sat silent for far too long, and the number of automated tractors being sold will be a great boon."

Kalec makes the cogwheel sigh of the adeptus mechanicus, whilst also sipping his champagne through a small tube on his mechadendrite.

Anything else to say here?
>>
>>25225093

I think we're done here.

Now, can we actually get something done about Kolchack's complete undermining of our trust? We need a replacement that we can trust not to hide extremely important information from us.
>>
>>25225093
I'd like to make a note to the Confessor that the world has an unfortunate need of their orphanages/recruitment centers.
>>
>>25225150
I believe that the general agreement was to keep him on a short leash and make sure he regretted his actions to the utmost.

My suggestion is to put him in middle management hell for a few months and keep him filing papers all day until he begs us to let him at field work again, but that's just me.

As long as only one person is saying this, I'm sorry but I cannot act without a general consensus on the issue.

As the GM though, I am just going to whisper that while his actions have been questionable, and very much so, he is not going to betray you, and since you have Jagers fate in your hands, it is in his best interests to keep on your good side from now on.
>>
>>25225093
Ask the Confessor if he can get some missionaries to come and effectively cockblock the other, more virulent strains of the Imperial cult from making inroads in the planet?
Freedom of religion is nice, but that doesn't mean we can't wield it as a weapon as well.
>>
>>25225165
You see Confessor Cromwell and sister Cypress speaking with a few local clergymen.

"Confessor, I did not expect to find you here." you say honestly.

Cromwell turns to you and bows slightly.

"Captain, nice to see you somewhere other than a battlefield. I was just speaking to some of the local preachers here, about strengthening ties between our cultures, sister Cypress?"

"We are planning for the Order of Reasons Light to establish an orphanage here, and a recruiting center if these preachers are willing, there have been far too many children left homeless by this conflict, and we must help restore this world in spirit as well as body."

"I could not have said it better myself," Cromwell nods, "The paperwork is already in motion and while we will not be here to see it built, but the youths displaced by this war should be cared for well in the days ahead."

"Yes," nods one of the preachers, "and our two peoples shall grow closer together."

Everyone signs the Aquila and bows their heads.

Any further words, or continue on?
>>
>>25225277

He say's he will do what he can, he does not want to see this world become home to shrieking demagogues any more than you.
>>
>>25225390
nah, we are good.
>>
>>25225093
There's one thing I don't understand. People in our sector were apprehensive about the Fenris. Why? I don't recall anything specific.
>>
>>25225511
The fenris takes longer to train, is more expensive and has like 8% parts compatibility with the Russ.
>>
>>25225390

You wander about the party some more, exchanging meaningless pleasantries with the local potentates, idly sampling a few of the delicacies at the snack table. One of their many distinctions from other chapters, the Knights try to find enjoyment in their food rather than simple sustenance.

You are about to turn away from the table, when you hear a tapping on the glass behind you.

You turn to investigate, to see Jager, grinning as wide as ever, leaning around the curtain.

"Jager, what are you doing here?" You admonish, a little annoyed he came and equally impressed he made it in without being detected.

"Well, I know I cannot attend the party on account of, well you know, but I figured that rather than mope I could take this as an opportunity to aid my brothers in arms."

"Jager..." You groan.

"Well, I was just figuring that since Crais and Vael can't attend on account of their complexion, so I thought I would raid the pantry here and bring back some party favors for our own private celebration."

He crouches there, grinning up at you and after a few moments you relent and pass him a tray of snacks and drinks, which are stripped bare in a matter of seconds.

"Thanks Cap, I'll pass along your compliments to the men!"

With a final two fingered salute, he disappears into the night once more, only the faint clinking of bottles under his trench coat marking his passing.

I believe that is everyone, anything more to say before you depart Tyrae?

The compatibility issue is part of the reason you are hauling around a mini-manufactoria in your ship, so you can make the parts you need to repair your unique vehicles.
>>
>>25225557
Nah. Where are we going next?
>>
>>25225548
I'm actually surprised there's any compatibility between the Russ and the Fenris (or between a Russ and a Baneblade). I'd have thought the only things they could exchange would be nuts, bolts, and small caliber ammunition. They can't use the same engine, and they have different sized guns, so why would they have any?

The party winds down to its eventual conclusion. You bid your fond farewells to the governor and his staff, and return to your HQ with Cypress and Cromwell in tow.

Upon your return you check in on the staff you left behind, and find Vael and Crais being entertained by a somewhat drunk Jager doing shadow puppets with all four hands.

Your time on Tyrae winds down just as predictably, with replacements for your lost brothers and soldiers arriving, bringing the JTF up to full strength. After a total of two months pass after the end of the conflict, you receive word from high command that it is time to move out, and to report to the Midnight Flame for your next assignment.

The HQ is torn down with the same swift efficiency with which it was constructed, and everyone loads back into their various transports. You sit back in the same thunderhawk which first bore your to Tyrae, and watch the world shrink through the armorcrys viewport, until you are once again within the familiar surrounds of the 'Flames landing bay.

I bring unfortunate news.

It seems like some furious troll has gone and archived this thread under 'sue marines quest 7'.

If the one responsible is here, then I would like to take this opportunity to respond.

That you would spend your time harassing a group of quest players, enjoying a little /tg/ homebrew, to the point where you obsessively mock and deride and shriek and cry over something which literally cannot ever affect you, then I have nothing but pity for you.

I cannot even begin to understand a mind so shallow and petty as yours must be, to devote themselves to such a pointless endeavor only to prove themselves an ever greater bastard in the eyes of the playerbase.

Did you hope to accomplish something, to see me shrieking in rage and crying about how you cannot understand my vision?

This juvenile attack is so pathetic and petty I cannot even spare the passion to get worked up about it, you have simply earned the calm dispassionate disgust which accompanies the kind of mess I wipe off my boot heel.

>>
>>25226565
Alright, let's see our next assignment.
>>
>>25226565
Looking at the slate, you see that the world you are to be deployed to next.

It seems that the next world the JTF shall visit is called "Volkgarod", a primitive world where the inhabitants have only rediscovered the internal combustion engine in the last century.

It appears that the world is being threatened by an invasion of Orks, and they have called for aid from any nearby Imperial forces.

Being one such force, you are instructed by Aprior high command to move to Volkgarod and defend its populace against the Orkish invasion.

Questions?

>>25226585
I understand the sentiment here, and I am aware that this section did come off as a crushing victory for the Knights. This was a situation for which they were well suited, a disagreeable, but fairly levelheaded populace with grievances that could actually be answered, and an enemy force over which they had martial superiority.

This is not going to always be the case however, as in future the players will be faced with tougher odds, internal conflicts, and disagreeable allies, as well as recurring villains where I deem appropriate.

I will try to avoid this becoming a boring curbstomp in the future, let the players have this victory, it will make it all the sweeter when I bring down the hammer. 'cackles'.
>>
>>25226725
Honestly, don't waste your breath with people like that.

Anyway, my main question is known or suspected allied units, as well as whether we get any additional reinforcement choices.
>>
>>25226725
In preparation for the next mission, will we be granted additional resources?
A ship designed to handle pin-point orbital bombardments was one of the things we wanted, and that fits with KI doctrine when dealing with Orks; long-range engagement with no efforts wasted on negotiation.
>>
>>25226784
>>25226782
No additional support is available from Aprior at this time, a reinforcement ship would take a month to reach here, and then several more weeks to go to Volkgarod, and the locals do not have that much time.

The natives are of Vostroyan stock, but their colony ship crashed on the frigid world and they regressed technologically. Their most advanced personal weapons when last inspected were primitive stubbers, although they had figured out fully automatic firearms by now.

There are some rumors floating around the Munitorum of further reinforcements being on their way to Volkgarod, but they are both an unknown quantity and far off, you are the first responders here.

As for >>25226585, my personal motto is 'be nice to other people, they outnumber you seven billion to one.'

Further questions before you embark?
>>
>>25226862
nope.
>>
>>25226862
No questions. Better we get there and get new intel, rather than making plans with stale intel.
>>
>>25226862
more questions can of course be asked on the way there.

You hold a briefing with your senior staff, informing them of the sparse information you have been given, going over basic anti-ork tactics in case anyone needs a refresher.

Following that, you instruct Captain Darvis to make way, watching from a viewport as Tyrae slides away from you as you launch forwards into the outer system and eventually into the warp.

In the years to come Tyrae would recover, both economically and spiritually, with the JTF's influence taking the form of a more robust economy and infrastructure, a more informed citizenry, and a more transparent government.

In time Tyrae grows very close to the Aprior sector, economic and military ties cementing the bond between the Tyrae system and its massive neighbor, leading to Tyrae adopting many similar policies as Aprior proper in time.

None of which concerns you at the moment however, as you are currently en route to Volkgarod with about three weeks before you arrive in system.

Do you wish to do anything specific or speak with anyone until you arrive, or stick to the usual 'train hard stay sharp' shtick?
>>
>>25227000
Ask the techpriests if they have anything in their Manufactorum that can allow a Shrike to launch an orbital targeting beacon as part of a missile.

Orks are one of the threats where KI doctrine fully endorses the use of orbital bombardments. I'd like a way for us to take advantage of that, and of our rocket artillery.
>>
>>25227087

You proceed down to the mechanicus shrine in the bowels of the ship, asking a junior enginseer if they know where Techpriest Kalec can be found.

She direct you to him, and you find Kalec busy fussing over a damaged rangefinder.

"Techpriest Kalec." You say respectfully, wincing a bit when Kalec jumps and sparks shoot out of the device, but he doesn't seem to care.

"Captain!" He greets you, waving with a singed sleeve, "What may I do for you?"

"I had an idea for a tool to increase our efficiency in long range engagements, after the somewhat, lack of accuracy during the Tyrae campaign.

Would it be possible to load a targeting beacon into a missile, to be launched from a Shrike?"

Kalec muses, gentry stroking the cables emerging from his head. "A warhead to guide other warheads, an intriguing notion, I shall see what we can do sir."

"Thank you, I shall let you get back to..." you look at the smoking sparking mess of cables behind Kalec, "your duties." You finish a little belatedly.

Kalec nods and returns to his work, and you excuse yourself.

Any other interjections?
>>
>>25227215
No, I think that's it. Let's get to the next area of operations.

Oh, wait, something I forgot. These people just re-discovered the internal combustion engine; how do we communicate with them? We have to physically go there and talk with them?
Do they even have radios?

And what will they make of all of our advanced tech?
>>
>>25227288
There is a single outpost of the wider Imperium on Volkgarod, mostly an administrative post to oversee the worlds minimal tithes, but it does contain an astropath to link the world to the rest of the sector.

They know that more advanced tech exists, but it will probably seem like space magic to them.
>>
>>25227315
Continuing on in a moment.
>>
>>25227372

The weeks in transit pass fairly uneventfully, aside from training on the firing ranges and leading your brothers in their daily rites there is little for you to do. Your skills as sharp as ever, you take a little time to talk to the crew, finding them to be in good spirits following the successful campaign and eager to once again rush to the aid of those in need.

The fateful day arrives at last when you are to arrive in the system housing Volkgarod. Everything plays out in an eerie feeling of deja vu, with troops checking over their kit one last time and moving to their assigned transports in preparation for real space transition.

TBC
>>
>>25227519

You again find yourself and your senior staff sitting in the conference room overlooking a hololith of Volkgarod, awaiting the transition so that you may speak with the local government.

While you wait Jager uses his extra limbs to carry a few trays of steaming recaff, passing the mugs around the table to murmurs of thanks.

Then, with a wrenching feeling behind your eyes, you emerge back into realspace, your vox suddenly lighting up with distress calls from the planet below.

>>
>>25226585
Ignoring the fact that this thread is a thematic mess. And it is, its a total mess. It really should've been played as a parody of 40K instead of playing everything straight and everything isnt really played straight since no one finds the RMs the least bit questionable and you've tried to make out the Imperium to be the good guys despite the fact they are either the second or third most actively malicious faction of the entire setting and the Space Marines are the worst of the worst of the Imperium.

Anyways, ignoring all that, its still mechanically a bore. There is literally no wrong decision we can make and everything plays out perfectly for us. Nothing bites us in the ass and everything pays off in the end. Since Storm Raven killed off all suspense, there is really no reason to read the threads anymore.
>>
>>25230422

It played out perfectly because as I was sitting here reading the suggestions I kept thinking 'wow, they are choosing to do the exact right thing for this situation, every single time.' I always thought out the outcomes of various major decisions, such as using more force to subdue the populace or replacing the governor, but instead the players chose to take the path which would play out the best for them.

There were quite a few wrong choices which could have been made, but the playerbase made the choices which led to the easiest path to victory, and I wasn't going to go back on my original idea of how it would play out just to screw them up because I thought it was too easy.

And yes, you were on fairly easy mode for this first mission, with a world ready to accept you once they saw how good you really were at what you did. This will most certainly not be the case going forwards.
