Actually I think there's merit to attempting it at some point in time (honestly I quite like write-ins, they give me something to work with that I may not have ever considered viable at that point in time), Just be prepared that if it's a room made of wood you'll probably end up setting everything on fire. If it's a room made of stone you'll do a bit better.

Ever hear of a Fuel Air Explosive?

You fill a room with flammable gas or liquid (spread it around in fine droplets) and then light it.

The resulting explosion sucks all the air out of the room and the force of the air pressure can actually rip your lungs out of your chest cavity.

Same thing happens in space, you don't hold you breath because the difference in air pressure will pull your lungs out.

I think Maro needs his lungs in his chest.

Stepping forward with staff in hand you being to launch some probing attacks, three quick bolts of fire are met with swift vortexes of air - it seems he's fought firebenders before.

He shoots a small sphere of air (without a bell, you note with relief) that you counter with a quick burst of fire - you're momentarily distracted remembering ren zhao's teachings, air and fire are almost complete opposites - more so than fire and water, unlike absorbing bolts of flame and directing the heat elsewhere you must meet every gust or blast of air with a small explosion of your own.

As you launch more attacks between each other, testing each other out you begin to have a dawning recognition that this 'Song' is probably the best airbender you've ever faced.

With three running steps forward you jump and kick two flames at him, and land breathing fire at his face and for once he finally seems flustered enough to have lost some momentum - although not actually be harmed.

You step in swinging a heavy blow with your staff - and song barely dodges, sliding out of the way with grace that only airbenders can manage.

As Song realizes the fight is quickly turning into one of martial arts skill he reaches into his sash and pulls out a small iron fan with one hand and out of the sleeve of the other hand emerges what looks like a small two pronged sai - it's strange you've never seen a weapon that looks like it before.

You step in thrusting with the staff and manage to deal him a blow in the shoulder, he leaps back clearly favoring the limb holding his fan - it seems you've genuinely hurt him either dislocating the shoulder or breaking part of it you're not sure. Song grins evilly at you and then smacks the two pronged jutte against the fan... and a humming begins to happen. You immediately have a sinking feeling about this.

Instantly disliking the humming coming from Song's fork you dash for the edge of the roof, as song raises the fork the humming turns into a horrifyingly loud and shrill whining. You're almost off the roof when the projected shrieking of Songs fork catches up with you, instead of a graceful dive off the roof slowed by some firebending at the bottom your instead just drop.

Luckily you get off the roof before the stone behind you explodes. As you roll to your unsteadily to your feet from a painful drop you look and see Ming Puar remove an arm from man wielding deer horn knives with an upward stroke, and then she quickly spins he guandao back into a downward stroke the man futilely attempts to block - Gen Xiao Ren slices through the mans knife, his arm, his chest, and straight out through his leg.

You look around and realize that there's actually quite a few bodies from her efforts here and that man seemed to be the last of the thugs guarding the opium den.

Then Song appears at the edge of the roof... and he holds the advantage of high ground now. He taps his fork against his fan again...

Your ears hum from Song's attacks, your back aches from the unslowed seventeen foot drop on to hard ground. You drop into a rooted stance and draw in the power you need - separating the positive and negative energies. You take a stomping step forward shouting into the hurricane, you touch your fingers together and then there's pure white light directed at Song. If I remember correctly Airbending is based off of Baguazhang, which is an internal style rather similar to Tai Chi, or Taijiquan.

It's based a lot on circle walking and circular footwork, which consists spiraling around an opponent while facing them side on, and constantly moving to the side of attacks. It has strikes that flow from the rotation of the core out to the extremities, and a focus on smooth movements flowing from one to the other.

It has a lot of flexibility in terms of what weapons to use and covers the gamut from throws, joint locks, and close in boxing, to longer range striking moves and evasive movement.

Also, it looks very pretty and smooth, just like Tai Chi, very flowing and good for exercise, but it's an extremely brutal martial art, just like Tai Chi, based on hurting and breaking people in nasty yet effective ways.

In my headcanon the language of the setting is a bit of a mix of chinese, japanese and korean. If you took out the tinny sounding bits (more particular to the female) and got Maro and Flame-Lily to sing together they'd probably sound like this. Maro sounds a bit more melancholy though
