Predator Quest: Episode 25

You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to investigate breaches of forbidden knowledge by clan Weyland on the planet Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known in the human tongue.

_____________________________________

You sit restlessly on the bridge of the captured flagship. The enemy is closing in. You wait a moment, and, as planned, the mysterious frigate Kraken-Slayer enters foldspace. Shortly afterwards, your own foldspace drive engages and you are once again on your way home.

The last leg of your journey is uneventful, thankfully. You stop only once to send off the traitorous executive officer and a few of his comrades. You expected some protest from Flame-Mantle, but it seems he's mostly interested in Night-Star. Ever since he arrived on your ship, Flame-Mantle has spent most of his waking hours questioning the traitorous Night-Prowler fleet-master.

At long last, almost a week later, you arrive at Yautja Tertia, your home.

>>
(cont)

You hail the orbital station, and give them your identification codes. There was some confusion as the station master demanded to know where the original owner of the Night-Prowler flagship was, but Flame-Mantle gave an access code which suddenly silenced all questioning.

You dock the ship and the human vessel in tow beside the station. You exit, and are greeted by a large security detail lead by the station master. He and Flame-Mantle have a hushed exchange of words. He then turns to look at you.

"I've taken ownership of the Night-Prowler vessel along with the prisoners. Thank you for your service to the empire. You're free to go."

You look at your teammates, who gesture helplessly.

Do you:

A. Dispute with Flame-Mantle and tell him custody of the vessel and Night-Star should go to you.
B. Tell him you need Night-Star to testify his actions and stand trial.
C. Thank him and leave.

>>B.

"A moment, Flame-Mantle," you tell him. "I need Night-Star to testify and stand trial. It's a matter of honor. He tried to sabotage my mission and kill my friends."

The seasoned warrior clicks thoughtfully. "You have ample evidence on hand to prove his guilt. I trust you understand my desire for haste in this matter. I MUST have Night-Star properly questioned and interrogated and no amount of delay is acceptable."

He motions the station master, who escorts your team out of the docking ring.

Your mentor puts his hand on your shoulder. "Well, let's go talk to the matriarch."

Do you:

Your mentor agrees. You and Steel-Arrow board your own personal ships, which were moved to their own docking bays, and ferry the team to the Cloud-Viper space port below.

You dock and secure your ships, make way to the space port courtyard. You're stopped by four Night-Prowler warriors. Their leader points to Quick-Shadow and holds up a sigil. "Quick-Shadow, you're under arrest by order our Matriarch. Come with us."

Quick-Shadow steps forward and examines the sigil. He turns to you. "It's genuine. I'll have to obey," he tells you.

Steel-Arrow steps forward. "What's this about? What's the reason for his detainment?"

"Night-Prowler business. Mind your own," the warrior responds.

Do you:

A. Protest and demand to know why.
B. Vouch for Quick-Shadow and tell them it must be a misunderstanding.
C. Let Quick-Shadow decide.

You confront the Night-Prowler warrior. "Quick-Shadow is part of our mission. He is a part of this team. I'll need to more details on the charges and circumstances of his charges."

The warrior steps closer to you and bares his mandibles. "I will say this again, Cloud-Viper. Night-Prowler business." He gestures his companions. "Restrain him."

They take out restraining nets and begin to move toward Quick-Shadow.

Quick-Shadow reassures you. "It's alright, Three-Claw. I was planning to see my Matriarch anyway."

Do you:

A. Pick a fight with the Night-Prowler
B. Let Quick-Shadow go
>>
Predator quest, did we give those Night-Prowlers the shuttle we promised, or did the arrival of Flame-Mantle break the deal?
>>
>>25189306
A, with the explanation that we're understandably suspicious of Night-Prowler right now due to Night-Star. We'll go along with the justice of the Empire, but we need some assurances that they represent it.

B, but this isn't done by any means.
>>

Is there some precedent for what you can legally do when you're suspicious whether authority is legally granted? Is there such a thing as asylum offered from one clan to a member of another?

>>B. Let Quick-Shadow go

You turn to Quick-Shadow. "You would know best, but be careful," you tell him.

Seeking-Eye walks up to one of the warriors with a raised net and gives him a vicious stare. "Lose the net. Treat him well, or I'm going to sharpen my disc on your spine."

The warrior growls at his threat, but discretely lowers his net.

You watch as they escort Quick-Shadow into a nearby shuttle.

Your mentor charters a shuttle and together, you make your way to the Cloud-Viper palace.

"You're late," your matriarch tells you, as you are led into her office. "Do you have a ship?"

"Yes, we do. There were some... complications," your mentor responds.

"Yes, I'm sure there are."

Do you:

A. Tell your matriarch about Night-Star's defection.
B. Ask your matriarch what she has planned exactly for the human ship.

>>A. Tell your matriarch about Night-Star's defection.

You give a detailed recount of your mission, along with Night-Star's betrayal. Your mentor hands the matriarch a holo-chip. "Recordings," he tells her. "Some from my mask, some from Three-Claws."

The Matriarch picks up the holo-chip and with little effort, snaps it in half. "I know," she tells him. "I've been informed this morning by agents of the Empress herself. My orders are for discretion. Let me make this clear - you will not speak of this to anyone. Not your clan mates, not your friends, ideally, not even to each other. Things are in motion and the turbines are turning. We keep our mouths shut and focus on our mission. There are things happening here which are far beyond my influences. Now, all of you, I need to demand secrecy from you, by proxy of the Empress."

Do you:

A. Agree.
B. Dispute and tell her this is important information which everyone involved with the mission should know.
>>
>>25189978
It's essentially "nigga" moments, and full outright violence and no one cares as long as you don't kill anyone outside of a sanctioned duel.

Permissions for duels can be between individuals (like wuxia martial arts written contracts that allow for potential death without fault), or granted by mentors ( we would be in the position of choosing whether sharp-strike is allowed to duel at the moment) or by matriarchs (ours has say over if we can or not - if it's important enough that we ask her).

At least that's what I've surmised, there's no real material on it.

>>A. Agree.

You gesture acknowledgement. Slowly, your teammates each agree to be discrete, though none of you are happy about doing so.

"The Night-Prowlers arrested Quick-Shadow," your mentor tells the Matriarch. "We had to let him go."

Your matriarch thinks about this for a moment. "Not surprising. The Night-Prowler clan is in a tough position right now. Their matriarch knows something has happened, but has no way to ascertain exactly what. Quick-Shadow is her only source of information, so of course she'd want to question him at the first opportunity. "

Do you:

A. Ask if she thinks Quick-Shadow is in any danger.
B. Ask if she thinks the entire Night-Prowler clan has defected.
>>
>>25190481
A
>>
>>25190481
>A. Ask if she thinks Quick-Shadow is in any danger.

Both. A, asking if he might be in danger, and B, asking if there's any chance Night-Star's corruption goes to the top of that clan (hence why he might be in danger).
>>
>>25190481
A.

Oh man, can you imagine the shit storm Night-Prowler is going to be facing as a clan...and if they did defect all together...exterminatus on Night Prowler incoming

Both, because B explains why we're concerned about A. Though it's also possible the ones who arrested him were corrupt and the matriarch isn't.

A, explaining that the ones arresting him might be corrupt, and B, explaining that the matriarch might be.

>>
>>25190535
>>25190532
>>A.

You ask her if she thinks Quick-Shadow is in any danger.

She gives it some thought. "It depends how deep the cancer within Night-Prowler goes, I suppose. No, I don't believe he's in any immediate danger, as practically, he's far more valuable alive as a source of information, if nothing else.

"I'll keep an eye out for him. But enough! Let's discuss the next step. We have a problem."

She raises a holo-screen and places it in front of you. You recognize the warrior in the display. It is Ashen-Blade, the hunter who spent much time with you at the market.

"As you know, Ashen-Blade's mission is to make contact with one of the humans whom he hunted with before. We received a transmission from his ship two weeks ago stating contact was successful. Then, we tracked his ship all the way to Fey'lenn, and that's where the signal ends. I have no idea why he set course for Fey'lenn."

She taps the holo-screen. The display changes to a dissection of a distress signal. "Two days ago, we received this. It comes from Fey'lenn and contains Ashen-Blade's personal signature. We'll need some time to extract the information we need from the human vessel you've captured and to make the proper modifications. In the mean time, I need someone to respond to Ashen-Blade's distress signal."

>>D. Ask all three.

You ask Burning-Scythe if he'd like to join you. "Yes," he tells you, "of course, and you should know better than to ask."

"Seeking-Eye?"

"It doesn't feel quite right to leave Quick-Shadow behind like this, but yes, I will come."

"Sharp-Strike?"

"It would be -ah, yes, please," he responds.

You acknowledge, and head for the space port.

You find a team of Cloud-Viper technicians already waiting for you, by order of the matriarch. Together, you work hard to overhaul and repair your ship long into the night.

One of the technicians asks you to fill out a load out requisition form.

Your munitions bay can hold 12 missiles.

A. Fission torpedo - high yield unguided atomic warheads rated at 2.5 megatons. (Takes up 2 missile slots each)
B. Disruptor Torpedo - Releases a concentrated E/M pulse which overloads electronics and control systems, temporarily disabling them.
C. Seeker Missile - Highly agile missiles with excellent turn rate designed to chase down and destroy small craft.
D. Sentry Mine - Small, stealthed, mines for use in space.
E, Rocket Pod - Fires multi-purpose, unguided rockets which excel in penetrating armor.
>>
>>25191023
Anything but A (or D since it includes A).
>>
>>25191023
>C. Ask Sharp-Strike if he'd like to join you.
He could use the experience.
>>
>>25191067
Hive runs are a very specific thing. A huntmaster can supervise say as many as 20 unblooded (generally with another blooded per 10 unblooded) in order to give them their blooding rights. Sometimes a blooding right is a far more intimate thing like in avp or what we did with sharp strike (he got to travel with *five* other blooded warriors by himself, some of them holding special clan ranks - an amaZing honor, now he just needs some trophies and he can start getting females). Sharp strike got to hunt humans even which is normally a privilege reserved for elite blooded warriors.

But for a hive clearing to count for the blooded warriors instead of just being a joy hunt they need to set out with declaration of specific intent.
>>
>>25191043
sadly no I joined the quest late so that is my only fis pic
>>
>>25191225
For use on Fey'lenn:

1 A (2 slots): One Fission torpedo, for when it's the only way to be sure.

4 B: Disruptors are so wildly useful.

4 C: So are seekers.

None of D; we won't spend much time in space.

2 E: Armor penetration could be useful, but they're unguided.
>>
>>25191225
>E, Rocket Pod - Fires multi-purpose, unguided rockets which excel in penetrating armor.
Four of these.
A. Fission torpedo - high yield unguided atomic warheads rated at 2.5 megatons. (Takes up 2 missile slots each)

I wonder did any of the human crew survived on that ship we brought back? We did kill all the military personnel but gave no fucks about other crew member, if they tried to do even rudimentary survival someone might have survived and is now on a Yauta core world. >>
>>25191391

Looks good. Let's escort Sharp-Strike to the armory, and give him a tip about how to get at the better supplies. Pass on our mentor's advice.
>>
>>25191391

You hand the technician your requisition form, and a short while later, the munitions are delivered and loaded into your ship. You and Burning-Scythe spend the night looking over your ship and testing its various systems to make sure everything's fully functional.

Once the next morning rolls around, your ship is ready and so are you.

You close the hatch once Burning-Scythe and Sharp-Strike are both on board, and signal Steel-Arrow. He gives you the all-clear, along with Seeking-Eye, and your two ships take off in tandem.

You emerge from fold space a distance away from Fey'lenn a few days later. You scan the system with your sensors. "Six human destroyer, a battle-cruiser, and some sort of orbital defense platform" you tell Steel-Arrow. "They've stepped up the security."

"Will be hard to make orbit with all those ships," Steel-Arrow tells you.

Do you:

A. Suggest one of you try to lure a few ships away.
B. Suggest you both try your luck and stealth past them.
C. Suggest you try opening fire on the battle-cruiser
>>
>>25191391
2 fission, 2 disruptors, 4 seeker, 2 rockets was the consensus I though... Unless you've altered our deal and we should pray that you do not alter it any further.

We'll also need to remind sharp strike that he needs to bring back some damn nice trophies for mistress of ships (if he ever intends to borrow from her were not exactly setting the best example of 'what state we return ships in' and armory lady).
>>
>>25191546
>B. Suggest you both try your luck and stealth past them.

You brief Steel-Arrow about the magnetic mines sprinkled around high orbit, and suggest you try to cloak and sneak by the ships.

"Right. Let's split up," he tells you, "Less chance of both of us getting caught."

You agree.

You engage your cloaking systems and slowly throttle forward as Steel-Arrow peels off to approach from the other side.

You are careful to avoid any of the destroyers head-on, where their detection is most sensitive.

You slip past the ships with ease, but now must deal with the cloud of magnetic mines. Do you:

A. Remain stealthed and try your best to navigate through the minefield. (DC: Medium-Hard)
B. Fire a disruptor torpedo to disable the mines and gun your engines forward. (DC: Easy)
C. Set your turrets to auto-track, decloak, and run straight past the mine field. (DC: Medium-Easy)

You nudge the ship forward and gently guide it between the magnetic mines. The task is nerve-wracking but you manage to find a path where the mine density is lowest and thread through.

You manage to make it to low orbit without being detected.

From the other side of the planet, Steel-Arrow reports having done the same.

You attempt to trace the source of the distress signal, but it's simply too weak. The fact that it's still being broadcast gives you hope, however.

Do you:

A. Fly a low patrol around the planet in an attempt to find signs of Yautja tech.
B. Infiltrate one of the human installations and find out if their orbital surveillance picked up something.

"... but it's also going to light you up on every sensor on the planet," you tell him.

"Yes."

"Right," you tell him, "Let's keep that in mind, but fly a few low altitude patrols first. We might get lucky."

Steel-Arrow agrees. You lower your altitude and begin to sweep the planet with your sensors.

You continue your search pattern for well over a five or six hours. Just as you begin to give up hope, you find something - a trace of plasma emission coming from one of the large floating islands.

You begin to head in that direction. The emission is faint, but it is persistent. The flying island is quite large, and you're not able to pin point the exact spot. The island seems to be uninhabited.

Do you:

A. Find a place to land first and survey the surroundings.
B. Ask Steel-Arrow to broadcast a localized E/M ping just over the island.
>>
>>25192250

>>
>>25192256
B if and *only* if we see absolutely no signs of any other technology on the island.
>>
>>25192256

>>A. Find a place to land first and survey the surroundings.

You tell Steel-Arrow of your findings, and tell him you'll land and take a look.

You perform a terrain scan of the island, and to your surprise, determine large pockets of marshy quicksand camouflaged by thick vegetation.

You find a thick patch of tall trees which should do well to camouflage your ship, and set down. You keep the cloak running and open the hatch.

Do you:

A. Ask Burning-Scythe to stay with the ship.
B. Ask Sharp-Strike to stay with the ship.
C. Take both with you.

Burning-Scythe and Sharp-Strike line up behind you as you exit the craft. The ground beneath is firm, but just a few minutes of walking further reveals a large patch of marshy ground. Sharp-Strike pokes at a patch of grass before him with his combi-stick. The spear sinks effortlessly into the ground, and as he lifts it out, becomes covered by a foul smelling ichor. As you extend your gaze, you can distinctly notice the ground subtly undulate. You check your scanners. The source of the plasma emission is somewhere beyond the swamp.

"Not to alarm you," Burning-Scythe tells you, "but I'm pretty certain I just saw something moving underneath the marsh."

Do you:

A. Try to find your way around the marsh.
B. Try to find your way through the marsh by hopping between islands of firm ground.

>>
>>25192564
>>A. Try to find your way around the marsh.

"Consider me alarmed," you tell him. "Let's find a way around."

You turn parallel to the swamp and attempt to find a path around it. You carefully scan the terrain before you with each step. Suddenly, your scanners pick up something metallic ahead.

You gesture to Sharp-Strike and Burning-Scythe. Together, the three of you peel away the thick vegetation to reveal the corpse of a synthetic. It is most certainly dead, from a large wound through its chest.

Burning-Scythe examines it with a trained eye. "A Plasma-caster did this," he tells you.

You continue forward. You notice a sudden change in terrain to the marsh on your right. Further scanning indicates a straight strip of metallic ground, about two hunters wide, extending from your location to somewhere deep inside the swamp.

Do you:

A. Walk along the metal bridge to find out where it goes.

You continue forward. You spot something clinging to the side. You bend down and examine it. It's the arm of a local Na'vi. It has been sliced off with a sharp weapon.

Burning-Scythe takes a few steps forward and scrape away some of the vegetation covering the ground. He points to a charred dent. "Plasma explosion. There was a battle here," he tells you.

You acknowledge, and instruct Sharp-Strike to be on his guard.

The folks in the background aren't that critical (and would likely make it unnecessarily difficult without adding much); the important bit is Peri and Ssen in the boat, with Mage's light, and the pseudo-circlet and hood.

And thank you *very* much for considering it.
