First thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/25030626/

Welcome to the second installment of Blacksmith Quest! Your name is Alaric Tyvin and you are currently working under Master Smith Urist, a Dwarven smith of some repute in the city of Belerin.

But before we get started, in response to the feedback from the first thread, I've made a few retcons and some updates. We'll see how they work and I'll make any changes if necessary.

>Overhaul of the job system
>Instead of the first roll, we will be taking the best of the first 3
>A few retcons regarding Alaric

More information in the next post, and then we'll kick off with the quest!
>>
>>25172321
First up, some changes to the smithing and job system.

>Ores will have to be processed into rods or ingots.
>We will be keeping track of how many rods/ingots of each metal you have available.
>Each product will use a certain amount of rods or ingots, sword and smaller or thinner products will use rods, heavier and larger pieces of equipment will use ingots.

>Instead of basing success on the first roll, I will be using the best of the first 3 rolls.
>Jobs will be given to you in a different format, stating the information. Based on the difficulty of the job you can choose to accept it or reject it (you may reject a maximum of 2 before Urist makes you do it).
>Each job will have a deadline; short, medium or long, more on that later.
>Each job will have a modifier to your roll, based on the metals used, the products and the deadline-vs-amount of metal needed. You will be made aware of the modifier when the job is given, if you succeed with a very harsh modifier you will gain more experience.

>The job deadlines will consist of 'ticks'. A short job will have 3 ticks, a medium will have 5 and a long job will have 7.
>Each 'tick' constitutes an action. Forging the bars will be 1 tick when you're on the job, unless you have the metals already and you don't need to forge anything. Basic smithing and finishing will be 1 tick also. You will unlock other finishing techniques as time goes on, which will require the use of more than 1 tick.
>If you have spare ticks left over, you can use them up to improve the general quality of the product. 10% of any secondary rolls will be added onto the running total, which will determine the quality (you roll a 50 on the first smithing roll, you use another tick to do some more smithing and roll a 60, 10% of the second roll is added onto the total, bringing the score up to 56.

1/2
>>
>>25172417
>You will process 30 rods or 20 ingots for every day you spend forging. You can mix and match.
>You will have a lot of artistic say in the process, if you want to gild a sword you will just have to make the necessary roll and, if you want, give a little description of the work.
>Any items you end up making perfectly, or deemed unique, I will dedicate a whole post to just going into more detail about it. You may end up with a hall of fame for all your masterwork items.
>Ore is infinite, as long as you have access to it. You currently have access to the ores necessary to make bronze, iron and steel.

And a retcons about Alaric.
>You are no longer a Journeyman. You are an Apprentice.
>You studied for a year under Master Helbrecht before he died, you then travelled to Belerin to find a new Master. Urist is your current Master.
>Your accommodation is sorted, you currently live under Urist's roof, and you stay in a spare room. It seemed unnecessary to rent a house and to keep track of your money spent.

I think that's about it. Let's get to it.

House of the Iron Sun
>>
You manage to wake yourself up after the harrowing ordeal the night before. Who knew armour required so much work?

You head downstairs and Master Urist is already getting the forge worked up for the day ahead.

He notices you come in and strokes his beard "listen laddy, ya really helped me out yesterday, I've been looking through the jobs and we've actually got a little spare time on our hands". He continues to poke the coals in the forge around a little bit more.

"I'm just gonna try and catch up on some forging today, go on and take the day off!" You stand there bemused, you don't really know what to say.

"Are..are you sure?" you enquire, "this isn't some sort of test is it?" You start to look around the room nervously.

"Nah laddy, just go outside, get some fresh air, have a look around the city. Ya haven't been here long so you might want to do some sight seeing".

Well that's that. No work for you today, what's the plan?
>>
>>25172516
Mostly to account for our lack of experience. It's easier to establish 0 as a baseline, instead of trying to account for what skills you might have already learnt in 4-7 years as an Apprentice.
>>
>>25172566
>What's the plan?

Maybe we can introduce ourselves to the other smiths?

Make friends, get tips and maybe do a favor or two for experience?

Any smith you want to visit in particular? Or should we just do the rounds and visit them all?

>>25172696
Nice
>>
Howver tempting it may be to get smashed, ripped, ratarsed, munted, hammered, sloshed, or just plain drunk, it may be an unwise plan.

So, instead, I suggest we go take a walk around the city, see what other smiths there are, see what they're doing, and see if we can meet other apprentices, and see what we can learn. Some of them will undoubtedly know about guilds or other groups who might be able to further our career over the years. Makes sense to learn what's in the city, and a clear head is essential for that. And it makes a better impression.
>>
>>25172729
>Or should we just do the rounds and visit them all?

Visit them all.
>>
>>25172736
>>25172633
Well it looks like you've got a full day ahead of you, you decide to visit the other blacksmiths and see what life is like for the other Masters.

After that, who knows?

Right, so who's up first?

>El'Galia
>Feldane
>Anamman
>Van Gan
>>
>>25172780

What do each have a Specialization in?

I know El'Galia does jewelry, but that's about it.
>>
>>25172780
That Elf chick
Forgot her name
>>
>>25172810
Regardless of that, we should probably thank her for helping us with that plate armor
>>
>>25172810
El'Galia does mostly jewellery, she has the skill to do other pieces of work, as shown by the help she gave you and Urist yesterday.

Van Gan does a lot of fortification work, due to his ties with the city Guard, and his size helps a lot as well. Mainly does things like cannon repair, and iron work for doors/walls around the city.

Feldane's speciality is armour, he is also a dab hand at engraving.

Anamman smiths iron and steel like no other, using techniques from his homeland to improve the quality and aesthetics (aka. Damascus steel)
>>
>>25172780
>>El'Galia
we didnt properly say thanks for helping us out on that massive job

>>
>>25172780
Van Gan was the armor guy, Anamman sword guy, El'Galia jeweler and Feldane some kind of a faggot I guess.
>>
>>25172877
im not, she expressed doubt about her abilities in regards to armorsmithing, if we're going to commission her to make us some armor when we have the money, it would help if shes not scared of the task, maybe after saying thanks she could give us the basics of engraving/fine work
>>
>>25172864

Then let's go for Anamman first.
>>
>>25172864
Anyways, start with El'Galia but don't spend much time with her, her dainty skills aren't of much use to us yet. Visit Anamman next and learn some damascus steel tips.
>>
>>25172923
this, lets say thanks to the nice lady and go learn how does STEEL!
>>
>>25172937
>and go learn how does STEEL!
sorry, let my beard type that last post
>>
>El'Galia it is.

You head down the road and look out for El'Galia's shop. You've decided to thank her properly for helping you out with the big armour job the day before.

You grab a couple of flowers from a local shop on your way there, you want to show how grateful you are and decide that flowers are the perfect thing.

It's not long before you are at the shop, a lovingly decorated home with a few bits and pieces of equipment outside. You can hear the sound of a hammer lightly tapping away around the side of the house.

Hiding the flowers behind your back, you walk around and peer past the wall, you see El'Galia leaning over a small worktable, tapping a large piece of silver with a hammer, a chisel, and a selection of other tools you've never seen before.

"Ahem" You 'cough' loudly so as to get yourself noticed, El'Galia immediately looks in your direction and you pull out the flowers and hold them out.

"For me?" she gasps "I love them!" She takes them off you and smells one of the flowers.

"I just wanted to thank you properly for helping me and Urist out with the job earlier on, Urist says thanks but he's obviously not a flower-person." El'Galia beams at you and offers to show you around.

>You charmer you.
>>
>>25172981
>and a selection of other tools you've never seen before.

you have piqued my curiosity
>>
>>25172981
Thanks but no, we have better things to do.
Let's go solve the riddle of steel or something.
>>
>>25172995
>>25172981

Ask how she has been and what those tools are.
>>
>>25172981
>and a selection of other tools you've never seen before.
Do we really want to find out?
>>
>>25172981
>is this a what do?

tell her not to doubt herself when making armor, we made something in 2 days what should have taken weeks

try to learn what we can about fine inlaying and engraving/script/scrollwork but dont spend too much time here, we have places to be STEEL to learn
>>
>>25172981
Let's check out her tools out of professional curiosity. There's always something you can learn from them.
>>
>>25172981
After showing you around the place you and El'Galia manage to sit down at a table outside. You can tell it's been professionally made, it's a completely different type of wood to the trees that grow around the city and it's adorned with all kinds of floral patterns and engravings.

"So, how have you been?" She asks as she tied her hair back into a ponytail.

"Well I'm getting used to working with Urist, but he's actually given me the day off, so I thought I'd try and get some tips from the other blacksmiths." You talk over the table, El'Galia blushes a little as she realises she was the first person you went to.

"Well, I'm sure I could help you out, I know you've got a lot to learn about engraving!" She gets up from the table and starts to walk over to the craft bench. "Hey, I wasn't that bad" you shout over to her.

"Yes you were, now come over here and I'll give you a quick run through of what I do." She turns back towards the bench and lays a number of tools out.

>After a while she's given you a few lessons on engraving, what each tool does and the best way to use it.
>+1 to engraving skill

>Want to talk about anything else, or should we carry on with visiting?
>>
>>25173063

Other than ask what the other tools are for, I say thank her for the helpful tips and move on to Anamman.
>>
>>25173063
Nah, we'll thank her for the tips and head to Amman's workshop.
>>
>>25172995
I'm being deliberately vague as I have no idea about engraving.

>>25173020
You'll unlock inlaying at a later date, she wouldn't just teach it to you straight away.
>>
>>25173063

>>25173093

>>

Then move onto Anamman!
>>
>>25173135
HEY, you named this blacksmith quest, of course we're going to focus on them, we could go back to planning how to get the Elf to grow a beard...
>>

>>

>>
>>25173081
>>25173083
"Right...I think I've got all of that" you make a few more indents in the piece of practise wood El'Galia has given you.

"Anyway, thanks for all of the help El'Galia, I'll try to practise whenever I get a chance." You put the tools back onto the bench, El'Galia looks thrilled that you've enjoyed the lesson so much.

"It was my pleasure Alaric, if you need any more help just let me know, OK?" She smiles at you, her eyes glint slightly in the sun. "Well I better be off, I've got a few more people to see today."

You part ways with El'Galia's shop as she watches you walk off, you head back down the street and decide to pop into Anamman's smithy.

Sooner or later you find yourself at the front of his workshop, a big open plan space filled with all the tools of his trade. Anamman is right in the middle, a white-hot blade in the tongs in his hand. He quickly plunges it into a bucket of water and steam rises up and billows out of the shop.

As he pulls the sword out you notice all the whirls of grey and silver running throughout the blade, the sun catched off each and every one, given the impression that the blade is almost made of flowing water.

"Ah welcome effendi!" He lays the sword down onto the anvil and walks over to you, the height difference immediately becoming noticeable.

His hair descends down his back in dreadlocks tied together with iron and steel bands, his earrings jingle as he walks towards you and you notice the details carved into the bangles and amulets that adorn him.

"So, what can I do for you today?" His deep, smooth voice echoes slightly around the workshop.

Dozens and dozens of engraving tools. Onglettes, Spitstickers, chisel and parralell, Diamond and Square gravers. Push gravers and all-steel hammer gravers, engraver's hammers, and light ball-peins.

Sharpening guides and hones, scribers and calipers, and drawn wires for inlaying into the engraved lines, copper, bronze, silver and gold alike. Burners for heating the wire and annealing it, and agate burnishers for polishing gold, brushes for cleaning the swarf, and measuring tools - measure twice, cut once, you are taught....

"I'm hoping to get a better understanding of the whole blacksmithing art, I've heard that you produce some of the best steel in Belerin and, if you don't mind, I'd like to know how to do it" You ask Anamman.

He twiddles the small dreadlocks he has formed his beard into and looks at you, almost sizing you up.

"Of course effendi, just watch carefully and try to keep up." He immediately gets to work by selecting a number of different strips of metal, lines them up evenly and ties them together in a block with a small length of wire.

"Essentially the pattern on this type of steel is due to the different levels of various elements within each of these metals" He taps the block on the anvil, just to drive the point home. "When we layer them like this, and then proceed to forge the blade, the pattern emerges."

"However, the improved strength of the steel is due to a few tricks back from my homeland" He strides over to the forge which flickers with a light blue glow.

"Here's where the fun begins" He bends over the forge slightly, your about to tell him to be careful and watch his beard when he starts speaking to the coals in the forge.

"Calcifer, it's time to wake up".

The blue flame flickers and moves within the coals and you hear a muffled, yawning sound.

Suddenly the flame bursts into life and 2 'eyes' appear in the fire. "Is it morning already? Boy, I'm starving!" The flame expands in size, and 2 limbs made of fire grow from the main body and stretch out.

"Oh hey, I didn't see you there, it's not often An-the-man gets visitors" The flame speaks at you, the words coming out of a hole that has appeared in it, essentially acting as a mouth.

You stare at it dumbfounded and speechless. "OK, so he's a mute, well that makes things a bit difficult." The fire adds a hint of sarcasm to it's tone.

"No I'm not mute," the words finally leave your mouth, "It's just....what are you?" You remember to shut your mouth once you're done, you can't just stand there like a gawping idiot all day.

"I'm Calcifier!" The fire grows in size and then shrinks back down, to about the size of a grapefruit. "The great and powerful fire demon!" He seems a bit full of himself.

"I think I've heard that name before...Calcifer". The fire moves around in the coals, "Well that's quite possible, it's all to do with the nature of spirits, demons, genies and the like."

"You see, when we 'die' we simply shuffle off onto another physical plane, an alternative world or an alternative universe. We have an innate knowledge of this, but no memories of our former lives. Except our names of course" Calcifer explains this to you with a notable tone, like it's talking to a child.

"So I may have been a contender in another world, I could have been an important spirit and that would have somehow been 'transferred' over to this world, in books or myths or legends." Calcifer seems to lose himself in thinking of what greatness he's been up to.

"But enough about me, it's time to get to work. You might want to stand back for this bit." It's at this point you notice Anamman is now standing a few feet away from the forge, you quickly step back as the fire demon springs into life, quickly filling the entire forge with flame.

"I discovered him back in my old smithy back in Al'k'Azir. It was a particularly cold winter and I came back to the shop and found him tucked away behind the forge, trying to keep warm, and he's been with me ever since."

It takes a while but Anamman eventually gets a sheet of metal, one solid piece hammered into a rough blade shape. The impurities in the metals have given the blade that characteristic flowing look, the swirls in the metal reflecting Calcifers light.

"You see, this secret is known in quite a few places, it's purely for decorative purposes." He runs his finger over the bumps in the metal. "But having an intelligent fire does help the process somewhat."

"He's never usually this nice to me, you know" Calcifer pipes up from the forge. Anamman throws a couple of pieces of scrap metal into the fire and Calcifer gobbles them up greedily. "But he does eat a lot." Anamman whispers to you.

"That's awesome, thanks so much for the help Anamman!" You are delighted that you've learnt this art from the man himself.

"You are welcome my friend, pop by again when you feel like it!" He chucks another small piece of metal over to Calcifer, who again eats it up.

"Thanks for the help Calcifer!" You shout back into the corner in the room. "No problem kiddo, I like meeting new people." Calcifer answers back.

You get back onto the main path running through the town and run through the list of places you want to go in your head.

You end up deciding to go to the mining Consortium in the city, it's where Urist gets his ores from.

After a short while the Belerin Mining Consortium is in front of you, you step through the double doors and onto the main floor. It's quite a grand building, there's a lot of marble statues and decorations dotted around the place.

You walk up to the main desk and a pretty young girl is sitting behind it, she looks up at you and smiles.

"Can I help at all?"

She pulls out a rather large book and starts thumbing through the pages. She asks where you are working and you say that you are studying under Master Smith Urist.

"Well our job here is to basically try and buy the ores from the mines, we have a number of prospectors who's job it is to check the purity of the ores, as well as some more people to check in this building."

She looks up your records within the tome on her desk, "so far you're only getting tin, copper, iron and coal, those are pretty much the big 4 that we order, however we do have a few more, choice, ores available."

"Are you able to tell me more about those ones, or where we get the ores from?" You ask her, she looks up as if trying to remember something.

"Well, we buy from so many different mines around the continent, it's a bit pointless telling you all of them, so we'll just get to the good stuff."

"Most blacksmiths in the city will get those main four; tin, copper, iron and coal." She holds up four fingers. "Others will order gold and silver, for things like jewellery and other decorative work, I assume."

"Every so often we get a couple of ambassadors from the other Kingdoms that auction off a large selection of rarer ores. We had the Elven Hierarchy last month that were selling some mithril, and a see-through metal I've never seen before. The Dwarven Emissaries sold us some adamantite and a few other really strong materials, you should have seen how many people they had carrying the ores in here!"
>>
>>25174246
Tell her that you have a 'ore spot' in your heart for her, ask if she wants to go on a lunch together?
>>
>>25174246
"But they probably have knowledge of some other metals that they don't want anyone else knowing about." She mentions casually.

"Is there anything else you wanted to know?"
>>
>>25174246

This! >>25174268

Also flirt, try to have a show and tell game with her! She shows us samples of the mithril and special ore, and we will show her whatever she want to see
>>
>>25174246

We must rob the next Dwarven caravan which carries adamantite and set up hegemony over the other smiths by offering everything just like them except better because it will be adamantite infused.

"Do you have any of the other ores around? I'd like to take a look at them if that's OK" You ask her and she gets up from her seat, "Absolutely, just follow me."

She eventually takes you to a small room, filled with plinthes with glass cases on. Each case has a lump of ore in it and a small plaque in attached to each plinth, giving a little description of the ore.

"Knock yourself out" She says and starts to turn back around.

"Actually there was one more thing..." She turns back around and tilts her head ever so slightly.

OP, I really like you and your quest.
And I really want you all the best in this endeavor. But I personally find your writing to be a bit... dry? I suppose you are trying to sound non-chalant and keep down purplish prose and doing something else instead. And you post a bit slow.

I'm trying to give constructive criticism here, so don't get offended. I'll give you a few pointers, if you will take them:

>Do your homework.
If you prepared what kind of ores those are and if you had it pasted somewhere you could have typed half a post simply by copy-pasting info about them and surrounding it with a little fluff.

>Make up little bits of the world that you think might be important and write them down.
So if you ever need extra padding, you can just reach for it and throw it in for good fluff.

>This one is old but: Show, don't tell.

>You look around at the glass cases, which ones to do you want to look at?

I'd do this more as
>The room is decorated by several see-through glass cases with shelves and small velvet cushions which hold the ores. Under every ore there is a little nametag. The rarer ones have their names in ornate gold lettering which draws your eyes to them.

Once again, trying to be constructive here, not disrespectful.

>My roll is the roll that shall pierce the heavens!
>Shame it was wasted on reading, but you're going to read the fuck out of these plaques.

-Mithril-
There's a large grey lump of mithril within the glass case, streaks of light and dark blue run right through it. It sparkles immensely in the light. Mostly processed by the Elven societies, it's tougher and more durable than steel, but very limitied quantities are produced.

-Adamantite-
A dark green ore, with an almost rectangular shape. Mined solely by Dwarves, they clearly want to advertise the fact that they are the best, and not hide their secrets away like the Elves do. Incredibly durable and strong, mostly used for the fortifications of the main Dwarven cities.

-Orichalcite-
Appears as large chunks of a reddish ore, once processed it will have a variety of shades, from light pink to blood red. Mostly used for decorative purposes, it was said that a lost city was once built from this mineral. Very valuable due to its rarity.

-Dwarvenite-
A large, dark grey lump of ore, with numerous formations on its surface. It's not entirely known how these formations are made, but they appear as thin 'strands' clumped together. The Dwarves discovered this a few hundred years ago and immediately told everyone about it. Incredibly durable and strong, the Dwarves claim it's as stubborn as they are.

-Ithildin-
In this case there is no ores or metals, but a map. You look closely and see that the paper has a number of runes on it's surface. Ithildin is actually one of the secret ores that the Elves originally refused to reveal, it's a mix of mithril and silver ores, which result in a fantastic light silver colour mixed with light blue. Can be beaten and processed into thin sections, much thinner than gold leaf, and can be used for many more applications, such as the runes on the map in front of you.

You get back onto the main street and start walking past the shops. You walk past Van Gan's smithy and notice it's completely empty, but the forge is still going.

The door on Anamman's shop is wide open, his hammer is lying on the ground. El'Galia and Feldane's shops are the same.

You look up the road and see Urist's workshop, a large crowd of people has accumulated around it.

Suddenly Urist comes flying out of the shop, the crowd manages to dodge the Dwarven missile, and Urist lands on the floor with a huge thud.

You sprint up the road as fast as you possibly can and help Urist up. "It's about time you showed up, as you can see we've got our hands full." He motions towards the shop.

You peer in and see Van Gan and Anamman almost wrestling with a gigantic humanoid, easily 9 feet tall. You can see Feldane placing a small piece of wood into the forge and the whole place lights up.

The titan in the middle of the workshop shines brightly as the light glints off his metal skin. Van Gan and Anamman, no spring chickens, are really struggling to keep a hold of him.

You help Urist back up and he stomps back into the shop, "Listen up ya bloody metal bastard, we've got to do this, there's no other way!" He shouts towards the metallic giant.

You step into the shop and notice the construct is missing an arm, several bits of metal and wires poke out from it's shoulder, it looks like it was removed rather violently.

"What's going on?" You shout towards the group of smiths. Urist is the first to speak, "He came in here asking for a new arm, and when he realised that it was basically surgery he started getting all violent!"

The metal man, whom you think is a Warforged, stops struggling for a little bit. Anamman releases his grip but Van Gan doesn't let go of the towering colossus.

You step up to the Warforged and it leans in and suddenly speaks, "How would you feel if you had to have a new limb grafted onto you while you were awake?"

"What exactly are you, and what happened to your arm?" You ask the creature bluntly, but politely.

"I..." the giant starts to talk and Van Gan lets go, the Warforged shrugs his shoulders slightly and stands up to his full height. It's a very impressive sight. "am a Warforged, we are a race created a long time ago to assist in a battle that never took place, and now we are inhabitants of this world, just like you."

"And as for my arm, well, a dragon got it." The Warforged looks around the room, trying to avoid any more questions.

"Well, I've certainly never done this, and I don't think anyone else here has either" You hold out your arms and look at the other smiths. None of them do anything and even Calcifer pops up and shakes his head.

Van Gan steps out of the workshop and dissapears down the road, leaving everyone staring at each other. After a little while he comes back with a few, rather large pieces of steel.

"Need build metal like arm." He tell you.

"Yes, we already know that" Feldane tells him, He quickly shuts up once he realises the death stare that Van Gan is giving him.

"Not just arm. Bone. Muscle. All metal" He lays the pieces of metal onto a workbench. He points a very large index finger at you and says a single word.

"Work."

Working on a construct is essentially surgery. There is no anaesthetic, so unless you have something to stop the pain (which you don't) it's going to be quite an ordeal.

El'Galia is going to work on the muscles and nerves. It's quite a fiddly job so it's best handled by someone who doesn't have gigantic hands.

Van Gan and Anamman are going to try and restrain the Warforged, so they can't help with the job. Van Gan will be giving you advice.

You, Urist and Feldane are all going to be working on the main arm and hand.

Due to the size of the arm, you Urist and Feldane put massive amounts of effort into it but it is just not enough.

The finished product comes off looking mishapen and malformed, slightly larger than it should be and covered in rough hammer marks and dents. Calcifer starts to laugh at what a shit job this has turned out to be.

Rule 1 of being a smith.

Measure twice, cut once.

Rule 2: Plan it out first.

Rule 3: Never jump into working without a layout table already marked out with all the components chalked into it.

this is'nt backsmithing. it is'nt the work of smiths. its the cobbled together mess that no master smith would ever allow. Nor a journeyman, not even an apprentice who's been through more than their first week of making stuff would know this.

(and for the love of god, why the hell would the one person who knows what they're doing be the one not doing the work and instead be holding down a warforged. You're in a bloody foundry. You'll have 100 tonnes of chains used for hoisting steel ingots, and a score of anvils that weight 1/4 of a tonne each. Who in their right mind would try to hold a war machine down by hand, when they have that. Does Van Garn not speak much because he suffered a terrible head injury and is infact no longer all there in the head?
>>
>>25175810
Would've been great if you'd said that BEFORE we made the rolls.
>>
>>25175748
I think that its pretty clear by the first toll we dont know what we're doing.
By the second roll, its obvious we're completely out of our depth.
By the third roll, if we've not worked out its all gone ppearshaped, we dont deserve to be called Apprentices.

No way is that going to be going onto the warforged - to the extent that we should walk away if the other smiths insist on it...

So we go with >>25175663, and kick Van Garn into doing this right. If he's a Master Smith, then he needs to be leading this, to ensure we do it right.
>>

I would suggest we dont even start working on the warforged, till we know what we're meant to be making.

>"Working on a construct is essentially surgery."

Do we try surgery with a sledgehammer and meat cleaver, and halfway through go "oh, hand on, this is'nt working is it?"
Or do we make sure that we're doing it right, with the right tools, and with the right techniques before we apply them to the patient?

Particularly if we conveniently point out to Urist that it may be prudent to do a good job of this, and take more than a few hours, as there may be much more such work to come in time.... Lucrative work for all involved.

We've got till 7.00, assuming we want to not meet our prospective love interest covered in iron dust and sweat. I suggest we take all day to get the preparation and the planning, and the practice needed to do a good job.
...then we can go have a good job of a different sort in the evening.

I'd offer my fiction writing services to this in a heart-beat. It seems like OP is a bit overwhelmed by everything and could use a hand.
Not like I have better things to do these days.

You know who else could use a hand?

Alright anons, somethings popped up and I have to go, so unfortunately Blacksmith Quest will be grinding to a halt today.

I'll try and get another thread raised tomorow (or I'll see if this one if still here) and pick up where we left off. We'll have a do-over of the Warforged smithing scene and have a date with the ore chick.

I'll archive this, so just in case it falls off page 10 I can look back at it.

the threads got 83 posts until autosage, so it could stay alive, but might not be worth it

Slow posting is unfortunately quite common against quest runners. Some are much slower than others (because they don't nudge their participants when they're getting incredibly sidetracked or distracted)... It's part of the writing process usually
