You are Agent Anon. One week ago you were involved in an event in the online game, "The World" in which your mind was drawn into the game itself because of your nemesis Hamelin combining an AIDA seed with the Epitaph "Magus The Propagation". You managed to avert total chaos by charging into the operation's folder with your companions and defeating the AIDA Epitaph with the help of your imaginary friend.

Since then the World's servers have been offline as CC Corp likely tries to fix the damage, but that is not the surprising thing. The really surprising thing is how well CC Corp was able to cover it up.

However any investigation into the mas were shot down, with one particularly strong case getting personally being put down by your new department chief. You went in with your partner to get the pleasantries out of the way and then left.

The question is how did you spend your week away from "The World"?

The complexities of the message and the existential meaning are different, but to me it means you have to break through the overwhelming despair of your own existence in order to find life itself, and if you are crushed by the existential weight of life you can not really live.

>[x]Offline meet: (Who?)

Haruko, explaining why we trust MANIA, Snark, and the rest of the people she doesn't seem to like very much. Hopefully, this will make things clearer on why we choose to trust them.

Shimabuku/Yonchoobon (if possible), getting him up to speed on what's happened. And how we totally kicked Hamelin's ass.

Attempting to get in touch with Luna's player. She needs a RL contact in case things get hairy, and also just needs RL contacts period.

>[x]Hung out with sister

Making sure she was OK, and maybe subtly getting her to play the World less and less? Also because our newly-acquired emotions behoove us to get to know her better so she'll have better support in case things go sour with the parents.

>[x]Worked out and trained

We're no he-man, and Hamelin's dead, but there's no telling if CC-corp suits will come for our heads. Being skinny can also mask high-cholesterol problems, which can plague people if they don't exercise properly even if they have low body fat!
>>
>>25161604
I think that's actually the most realistic option. We stayed at home and jerked it to porn. Seconding for humor's sake.
>>
>>25161567
Go to a public library or somewhere else with free internet, and try to do some research.

Like research the connections between the Epitaph of Twilight and the first version of the World, look up who made the game in the first place and ideally see if there are any recordings or videos of interviews with him, like some way of hearing his voice.

Also search for "Aura" "Morganna" "Kite" "cursed wave" etc in conjunction with the Epitaph of Twilight and the World.
>>
Also, once we go back online, does anyone else want to have a nice sit down with some tea and chat with Snark? Get a better partnership going?

[X] Hung out with sister.

Time to dig into Agent Anon's origin story.
>>
I think it might be best to avoid our sister, since Hamelin got pretty close to figuring us out.

But if we do have to, might as well make sure no one in our family had anything to do with the first version of the World.

Since Anon is 25, he'd have been 18 at the Morganna incident right?

I second the social link stuff with >>25161769.

Like tell Haruko that MANIA heard everything, and also tell her what we and MANIA did after she stormed off earlier, with her not killing Deevon or whatever and investigating Kite.

Just a way of showing that we are inclined to trust her, though we understand that Haruko may have some doubts.

>>
>>25161876

>>

My vote. And uh, can we catch up on sleep? I have the hunch we're going to need it.

You spent the majority of the week meeting people and discussing things. You first took Haruko out to some cheap yakisoba bar thing, you honestly have no idea what it was and the food was greasy enough to warrant a war crime but she liked it.

You tried to explain why you trust MANIA, Snark, and everyone else she doesn't seem to trust.

"Anon, they are emotionally screwed up in ways I can't even begin to explain." She replies after taking a chug of her beer while watching a baseball game.

"They are not that damaged. Besides, MANIA at least has been nothing but supportive." You say as the umpire makes some strange gestures which elicit cries of anger from the patrons, though honestly you have no idea what the hell is going on.

"Too supportive. Pretty soon you will wake up one day and she will have chopped your legs and arms off and will do everything for you... forever." She tells you as she finishes her mug and orders a second

You offer a small prayer to her liver before sighing. "She also knows about us being agents. She heard us when we were talking and I had my mic on. And, when she stormed off that one time she could have PKed Deevon with her AIDA, but instead she scared the crap out of him and then went off looking for more information on her own. She seriously has our backs and yeah, she can be a bit extreme at times but so what? Hell, if we kicked people off the team for being emotionally screwed up then there would be no one else. It's like a requirement for our team." You explain.

She agrees to try and give MANIA more of a chance

You spend the next day searching for information in a public library about the world. You manage to find out the original programmer was called Harald Hoerwick and he made Fragment, but little else. Lots of the records about his life seem to be pretty sketchy as well.
(1/3?)
>>
The next day you go have some ramen with Yonchoobin, him having ducked his manager and sneaking off.

You give him the general layout of what happened with Hamelin and he seems pissed he didn't get a chance to participate with you in the fight. He only lets you go if your promise to call him next time something happens.

You are about to call up your sister to meet with him too, but his manager arrives and drags him off, thus making you have to meet with her solo. You meet her and buy her a pretty nice dinner and talk about her life in general. She is cautious.

"Got to say Anon, it is pretty strange for you to try and be nice. Ah, is Haruko making you do this? Is that it?" She asks as she picks at her food, clearly unsure how to eat some of it.

"No, I just wanted to see how you were doing. Touch base, as it were." You explain as you look over your food, quietly missing your ramen.

"Well, what ever. It is nice to go into town for a change." She mutters finally just eating the food how ever she damn well wants.

"I see you are not so strict on etiquette now." You say making her nod.

"Well after you moved out the parents just slowly stopped caring about enforcing the image of perfection on me. They figured the perfect Anon left, so why should they even bother trying with the screw up." She shrugs.

"Sorry you had to go through that." You say but she just looks at your strangely.

"Why? You had it way worse than I did. Ever since you were a teenager you suddenly started becoming an over achiever and they wanted to try and support you I guess. Well, it doesn't matter." She waves her hand to get rid of the thought.

You try to subtly convince her to cut back on "The World" during the rest of the conversation, but she does not seem to really care, evidently confident the people spamming about the event are just full of it, or trolls.
(2/3)
>>
You spend another day trying to track down Luna's player, but she is evidently difficult to find. You spend the day looking through Pixiv artists who draw frilly dresses, and send her emails, but she is fairly quiet about herself in the real world, and if you wanted to find out who she was you would need to do some serious investigating.

You spend the rest of your days working out and catching up on sleep, your exhausted body actually aching from the constant strain you put it under.

However finally, The World comes back online

You put on your M2D after getting a cup of coffee and see there is a notice posted. "Players will not be charged for the week we were offline, and all current accounts have another month for free! Thank you for enjoying the world."

You frown at this news before signing in.

At once you are transported back to Mac Anu, the domed building towering above you. You look over the update information and see there is a new root town available for players to go to.

>[x]Call up Snark
>[x]Play on your steam bike

Want to go on Mr. Chen's wild ride? With crap handling and an absurdly high max speed?

Then ask him about what he's been doing since the outage. Does The World persist even when offline?
>>
>>25162501
I'm seconding this. Snark loves playing around and this will probably make him somewhat happy.
>>
>>25162501
Good call. I like it
>>
You resist the urge to summon your steam bike and drive around deciding that you have to have your priorities. You focus on the corner of your mind connected to Snark and in an instant he appears.

"Sorry, who are you again? I think I deleted you from my memory to make room for more Game of Thrones." He strokes his chin thoughtfully.

"I'm Chen." You answer deciding that playing along is probably for the best.

"That's impossible. Chen's right here" He tells you before pulling out the handpuppet version of you.

"So you still have the puppet then?" You ask making him nod.

"Yeah, I have grown attached to him." He explains with a shrug.

"So what have you been doing while I've been gone? Does the world even exist when offline?" You ask making him shake his head at you.

"Gee, I dunno Chen. Does the universe stop being there when you stop looking at it? Should we nuke a cat to decide if it was there or not?" He asks.

Clearly that line of thinking will just give you a headache so you change the subject matter. "Do you have any idea how to get the Tarvos core out of lotus?" You ask.

"Of course. I infect her, let the AI grow and become all 'Imma swallow your soul yo' and then we eat the AIDA." He explains

You consider that train of thought for a few moments. You want to have a heart to heart with Snark about what happened between the two of you, but don't know how to get into the subject. Thus you summon your steam bike. "Want to go on Mr. Chen's wild ride? With crap handling and an absurdly high max speed?" You ask, and he has already manifested behind you.

"Let's ride." He commands and suddenly your ears are filled with "Highway to the Danger Zone" as you ride around. You jump and spin, and generally violate several laws about handling steam powered unicycles, aided by Snark constantly trying to steer you into people claiming they are worth bonus points. You spend quite a bit of time before you stop in front of the guild houses and dismount.

What would we like to do? Explain omnipotence to him? Wax poetic on your woe-betided childhood or lack thereof?

How about how to understand each other for dummies? Tell him to lower his bar of expectations when it comes to talking with us?
>>
>>25162679
>[x]So, uh, what's up?

I know that we were able to chat a bit after the whole Magus incident, but I think we should talk more and try to understand each other and know each other better. You know, communicate and stuff like that. Prevent the whole thing about assumptions causing paranoia and distrust in both of us and making us both bad people, try to find common ground and interests, other stuff like that.
>>
>>25162679
"So one thing I was wondering. You said earlier that the infected Macha kind of... exaggerated or twisted the emotions the original Macha is supposed to represent, from love to obsession. And I'd guess that also holds for the copies of Innis, Skeith, and Magus.

The thing I was wondering is is that exaggeration a natural AIDA thing, or is it specific to the primary AIDA hive's... personality, I guess?

Like, say you did what you're planning on doing to Lotus, but with Areta. Would your black dots make the same conclusions about Skeith as Prime's did? Or would their interpretation be different, resulting in you gaining a more complete understanding about whatever the fuck Skeith is supposed to mean?"
>>
>>25162687
Do we know how much Snark knows about us? Since he's in our mind does he know about our past, or just what we tell him?

Prevent the whole thing about assumptions causing paranoia and distrust in both of us and making us both bad people, try to find common ground and interests, other stuff like that." You explain but he looks at your out of the corner of his eye.

"Why? What's your angle? Could it be, perhaps, the subjugation of humanity through the dark rituals passed down from Illuminati wizards, taught to their ancestors by the Grays who founded the free mason society and have been subtly controlling human politics for the last ten thousand years, instilling onto them the idea of cheeses being good for you?" He asks.

"Wha- What?" You take a step back and he nods.

"I spent a few minutes looking up paranoia after our discussion last time. Ended up on a site about being above top secret? Which seems silly since top means the top. Humanity needs a better lexicon." He explains.

"So one thing I was wondering. You said last time we spoke that the infected Macha kind of... exaggerated or twisted the emotions the original Macha is supposed to represent, from love to obsession. And I'd guess that also holds for the copies of Innis, Skeith, and Magus. Our AIDA-sense departed when he left, and he DID say he was filling our hole like an Epitaph would.
>>
"It doesn't twist it or exaggerate the emotions. They are already exaggerated to begin with, that is sort of the epitaph's jobs. Collect, analyze, amplify, and observe. AIDA just go in and... simplify it into a manner more able to be understood. The main hive and I evolved the same up to that point. Besides, the mixing the epitaph with the AIDA is what causes them to observe it efficiently, not the 'personality' as you put it." He answers.

"So, about likes and dislikes?" You prompt making him shrug.

"I like fun things. I dislike wasting time!" he answers and you frown.

"That isn't really an answer." You state.

"Shimabuku would get it." He sighs.

"So..you were able to defeat that kite guy all on your own, do you even need to stay in my head anymore?" You ask making him shrug.

"I was able to rip him to pieces this time after consuming several false epitaphs and after he had been fighting a separate AIDA infection to the death. I could manifest elsewhere, but how should I put it." He scratches his head in thought. "If I am not inside you, your insides will rot back to normal at the state they are in. Plus without a general human form I will degrade into a shapeless mass of black spheres, go crazy, then probably start doing bad things. Like not using coasters, and trolling internet forums." He answers with a shrug.

You nod before sending off a message to Shimabuku and Luna. After a few seconds they reply that they are already in the new root town.

You make your way back to the chaos gate and decide to ask him one more question. "Why is your grunty so much better than mine?"

"Probably because of your crippling social inadequacies." He answers before vanishing. You look over the chaos gate locations and select Dol Dona. After a few moments you are warped to a new city. Situated surrounded by green cliffs. You look around the area and see Shimabuku and Luna glaring at each other, much like when you first met them.

"And I'm tellin you it ain't like that!" He shouts in protest to something Luna must have said.

"Honestly, must you shout? Such a vulgar man." She sighs making him frown.

"Yer the classless one you... you... creepy poetry chick!" He counters making her shake her head.

"Your mind must be as rotten as your vulgar body. One such as myself who is a refined member of the noble race of vampires must dabble in poetry to fully express the darkest lamentations of my soul. Truly, if you can't even understand the art of words then what good are you?" She ask making him cross his arms.

"Tch, some poetry. Didn't even rhyme." He objects.

"Poetry need not rhyme, for the twentieth time.' She explains.

You try and focus on the mild headache you get from Shimabuku, but don't notice anything. If you want to see his AIDA you will have to ask Snark or wait for him to manifest it himself. You decide they will probably take a while so you make you way over to the quest shop, looking over the items and other shops as you do, making note of where to buy what.

The city is much more relaxing than the old Mac Anu, s there even seems to be a day/night cycle in the town itself. You amuse yourself by making small talk with some of the players in the city.

You eventually make it to the quest shop and sitting at the window is the familiar duck wearing a globe for a hat.

"Welcome to the Quest Shop! Here is the selection!"

You select night of 1000 fireflies and also the Cat mission before the duck bows to you. You make your way back to Luna and Shimabuku and they seem to be writing something on the ground.

"...So as you can see, the rhythmic pattern is much more effective if you do it this way." he explains making Luna grab the stick he was using to write in the dirt and scribble out what he was explaining.

"You just wrote the lyrics to stairway to heaven, how is that in anyway related to what I was saying?" she asks stomping her foot, her leather boots kicking up a wisp of dust.

"No, like I was saying, greatest song ever written in the history of forever so I figured you could take some pointers." he explains making her well plucked eyebrow twitch.

"The best music is an echoing scream of lamentation of the unlife I am forced to bear. The agony of cold lips in the dark, the heavy patter of rain making it impossible to hear the words, and the water washing away the faint taste of blood on your lips as you pull away, the last feeling of life and love being taken from you once more by an uncaring world." She sighs placing one of her hands to her heart.

"Seriously? How is that classy at all? It just sounds hella depressin'" He frowns making her glare at him.

"That is the point! You can't find happiness in happy things! You have to know agony and sorrow to know true life!" She explains making him shake his head.

"So... when I punch goblins so hard that they fart, I am not really happy even though I am laughing? I am actually depressed?" Shimabuku asks making Luna shake her head.

"And this is why you have no class." She sighs. She then turns to you. "Oh, Sir Chen! Forgive us, we were discussing something and didn't notice you. What is on the agenda for today?" Luna asks while Shimabuku seems to be giving himself an aneurism wrapping his brain around Luna's Logic.

"We have to find that guys cat." You pull out a note which has some blood on the corner. "Θ Bad Kitties knapsack"

You look around at the damaged trees and the over turned stones and see a short vital vista crawling towards you with only one arm, the other evidently being torn away. "You the guys who..." *cough cough* "Accepted my request? Good, uh. I think my cat may have grown a bit since it was a kitten but that... I mean... It maybe ate something bad too so she is sort of grumpy. But I assure you she is actually a proper miss. Just have to give her a good belly ru-" He starts but then vomits up blood and dies.

You plow through the field on your steam bike and ask mentally if Snark wants to come out and talk to them about anything.

"Yeah, no, see I would, but I just figured out how to download apps. I already played the crap out of angry birds, and now I am playing some super hero card thing? Dunno. Thinking of setting up an emulator in here." He answers making you slightly worried as you consider the idea he might put an SNES emulator in your mind

You decide to turn to the two of your companions. "So what were you two arguing about this time? Ironic poetry?" You ask as Luna gently holds onto your midsection as you ride through the field.

"Of course nothing of the sort Sir Chen! We were discussing the idea of words carrying power and things sort of went from there." Luna explains as you see a horse of zombies, each with large cat scratches on them, evidently the disquiet dead born from the cat.

"Yeah, plus she is only happy when she is sad, so it is super weird. She is a weirdo." Shimabuku answers while he runs along side your bike.

"There.... there is room on the front shi-" You start but he glares at you

"Let me do it my way!" He tells you as he performs a flying jump kick

FIND 90k gp FIND: Judgement scythe

You finally manage to find the cat on the furthest island. The great beast rests, basking in the blood of its victims. It's black fur glossy and slight with the entrails of the fallen, and it's demonic claws flecked with bone and sinew. As you approach it yawns, and you see it's great teeth are the color of terror and death, and its eyes a shade of hellfire the likes of which can only be seen in your nightmares. it locks eyes with you and lets out a terrifying meow, the sound of the dishonored dead forever seeking a battlefield to die.

What sort of asshole names their cat "Little Socks"?
>>
>>25165045

>>
Rolled 76

>>25164965

Cats lourve to chase things, but this Cat is probably smarter than your average kitty. More murderous as well. If the belly rubbing doesn't work, we may want to try something else.

If it attacks anything like the predatory cats on TV does, then it will probably try to pounce on one target and shred it; thus, we need to keep if off balance as much as possible. Chen buffs party, tosses attack down and speed down on cat. Luna and/or Shimabuku attempt to bait it with feints, while the other springs in when the opportunity strikes them. Chen will toss out heals and attack spells at range; if the cat decides to attack Chen, have Luna act as interdiction with her scythe and have Shimabuku attempt to punch its flanks.
>>
>>25165015
Voting for this as well with driving our bike into it as a back up option. I'm also tempted to have Snark infect it and have it as a friendly npc that can help us
>>
>>25165067
That sounds good.

I'd say we should probably cast Ap Orv (buff phys attack and defense) on Shimabuku and Luna, and Dek Do (half enemy's speed) on Little Socks.
>>
>>25165118
Nah lets not mess with that.

Although I was briefly worried that the 'something bad' Little Socks ate was an AIDA, but thankfully the questmakers aren't that insanely prepared.
>>
>>25165138
Snark could copy its data then? I just want a giant cat with a funny name as a guardian of our guild hall along with what ever other npcs we have
>>
You attempt to ram your bike into it, but this cat knows nothing of fear or pain, only fury. Its large paw sweeps down and shatters your tiny human form, the only thing holding you together being the universe not knowing how to fully equate the damage this great best does to your tiny human form. Brave Shimabuku tried to perform a flying kick to it's midsection, unaware of the full extent of the creature's power. He is like a butterfly before a tidal wave of lava and is swept away in a hellish inferno as a result. You stand to try and rally your companions, throwing a buff on Luna and shimabuku as the former tries to run forward, but the servant of midnight is no match for the beast from beyond time. You attempt to put it to sleep, something to give you respite from this evil, but fail Little Socks does not sleep, it simply chooses when to not kill.

It lunges forward and bites into you like a tasty Chen snack, shaking its head back and forth to disorient you before throwing you into Shimabuku, your manly bodies held together only by terror.

You take a step back with Luna and Shimabuku before healing the both of them quickly.

"There is something highly unsettling about this cat, Chen." Shimabuku complains as he dodges the large paw before performing a spin kick to the cat's paw, his tiny human leg amusing little socks, but being pointless before the majesty that is she!

You cast Dek Do on the cat, lowering it's breakneck speed to just a little beyond mortal reasoning before Shimabuku starts up his combo on the giant cat. You start throwing out attack spells and impossibly you seem to be driving the great best back.

"Try to keep it confused! Use feints! Luna, Shimabuku flank and hopefully make it difficult to keep it's focus!" You command and they do so. Quickly combined with your attack spells and their physical assaults you have managed to break the cat of hell's rhythm.

You rush before the creature and start laying into it with your magics. You use a poison spell to rot it away from the inside and impossibly it works, likely the result of you making some dark pact with a being from far beyond the world itself. You allow yourself a moment of respite as Shimabuku juggles the cat, little socks clearly amused by your pathetic mortal attempts to slay it as your dark magics do their work. Luna runs towards the beast and starts supporting Shimabuku, slashing the creature of infinite sorrows and launching it into a cave opening.

You leap in the air and summon a spear of earth and launch it at the beast, the wrath of the planet turned towards the being clearly from beyond the stars. As if amused by your paltry attempts it falls over dead. Perhaps as a reward for your attempts before a beast far beyond you? It is unknown, but you know this isn't the last you have seen of the cat, the raging darkness that is its soul only using death as a way to begin dreaming once more.

If it's not too touchy of a subject, perhaps we could ask how her guild is faring?

And also ask them very subtly about how they feel about their AIDAs. Are they feeling OK? Do they notice anything out of the ordinary?

>>25165955

"I am shocked, Shimabuku. You are nearly the pinnacle of manliness (with the exception of Vividor). A true warrior and man cares not of what others think of their dress! They compose themselves with dignity despite how they look, and let their deeds do the talking! After all, who dares to mock the man wearing cat paws if they're soaked in the blood of all those who opposed him! And a cat's hearing is keen, many times greater than that of a normal human's, and its tail acts as ballast so it can perform impossible acrobatic feats, such as landing on said feet after dropping hundreds of feet from the air! But I suppose if you do not wish to fight like and look like a lion with the reflexes and natural weapons to match, that is your business."

But I suppose if you do not wish to fight like and look like a lion with the reflexes and natural weapons to match, that is your business." You gesture dramatically, hopefully making your point.

"Ha ha ha, no, that isn't happening. If you want to be so cat like do it yerself, bastard." He counters crossing his arms.

"Should I point out that Durga is a catgirl and she is possibly the most intimidating of all of us?" You ask.
(1/3?)
>>
Crap, did we inadvertently say something horribly wrong?
>>
"Should I point out MANIA nearly killed me once just to get off while Durga didn't?" He points out making you frown.

"What does that-" You say but he interrupter.

"She is way more intimidating that cat girl with the social issues. Followed distantly by... Snark probably. I should point out neither of them are cat girls in the slightest." He explains.

"Strictly speaking I could be a catgirl if I wanted to. I just have to take on what ever form I want, I just don't want to. This hoodie is comfy." Snark explains from inside your head.

"Fine, then I will give them to MANIA. Then the scariest will be a catgirl and... uh. Actually this is a fantastic idea." You tell him making Luna sigh.

"Idiots." She mutters.

You still have not gotten confirmation from the rest of your group so you turn to Luna. "Hey, how is your guild doing since, er... The Mathios thing?" You ask to which she frowns.

"Several of our guild members are members of the lost I fear. We are trying to enforce some level of stability under Cassius and the new members of the crimson court but... we got hurt pretty bad. I shudder to think what would have happened if we didn't stop it" She explains.

"Any changes since the AIDA?" You ask and shimabuku nods.

"Yeah, that pee thing? Still a thing." He tells you making you frown.

"That isn't a thing. Stop drinking so much, or get your prostate checked." You explain making him frown.

"Tell him Luna! You have to pee a lot too, yeah?" He asks and gets slapped for the trouble.

"Ladies do nothing of the sort, you foul man! I have noticed nothing out of the ordinary, Sir Chen." she tells you before looking away

You finally get confirmation from the rest of your group so you make your way to the field listed.

After a few seconds, in which you hear snark mutter unhappily "But the future refused to change..." you find yourself standing in what looks like a traditional Japanese festival surrounded by stalls and tons of people. Like the beach your weapons are grayed out, and your outfit has changed. Lotus and you are in Japanese yukatas while Shimabuku is in a Japanese loincloth. Luna's outfit is all black and her hair is tyed up with a white pin which makes her look like she is in mourning while you are in a goldfish pattered blue.

A duck like creature walks up to you and gives an exaggerated bow. "Welcome! Welcome! The festivities have just begun! Play the games you want and if you find a golden ball you get a special prize! Each player can only have one golden ball each, and if you get six of them you get a special prize" He gives an exaggerated dance before pointing out the stalls.

Well this is new.

You wander around for a while, getting a feel for the games before you run into the rest of your party. Areta is in a tasteful pink yukata with white clouds pattered on the side Her hair is left hanging loose however which is a refreshing change from her normal ponytail. Durga is wearing what looks like a similar outfit the shimabuku, the loincloth with the chest wrappings, however she also has a vest and a headband of some sort on. Her muscles tense and swell, and you sort of wish you were in the game again to get a better eye full for it. MANIA is wearing a dark blue yukata with white flowers lining only the bottom. She gives you a brief nod before looking around concerned.
(3/4)
>>
You have noticed the games listed are "Carving game" where you attempt to use a knife or pointy object to cut a design out of an easily breakable tile like substance, a shooting range, goldfish scooping, fortune drawing, Ring toss, water balloon yoyos, and other such common festivities are around you.

A carnival! How exciting! Perhaps a time of respite amongst all the serious shit going on in the background has come.

Although I agree that we should see what MANIA is concerned about.
>>
You decide MANIA being concerned is never a good thing. "Hey, what's wrong?" You ask making her look to you.

"This is... a carnival of some sort, right? I am not certain I know these games." She tells you making Durga do a double take.

"How do you not know these games? Have you lived under a rock all these years? Are you really Japanese?!" She demands in a huff making MANIA tilt her head at her.

"No, I am not." She answers calmly making Durga take a step back.

"Er... then you... you at least live in Japan right?" Making MANIA nod.

"Ah ha! Then you should naturally know the shrine festivals!" She declares proudly as if she won somehow.

"I have no need for any God, so I never saw the point of ever visiting a shrine." She counters again making Durga deflate.

"D-Damn it." She complains making Shimabuku pat her on her back.

"I know the feel... I know the feel." He offers.

"Well, why don't we go around together? Unless anyone wants to run off?" You ask making Durga shrug.

"I don't mind, but it sucks I can only win the top prize at one of them. At the shrines around my old home they have signs warning about me and my family." Durga smiles proudly

"Wow, haven't been to one of these in... I feel like if I say it I will make myself sad." Areta adds. "Hey, should we hold hands so we don't get lost? That is standard here, right?"

You feel a brief surge of AIDA as MANIA becomes more in sync with her character and she grabs Areta's hand quickly while glancing around. "Please." Is all she says while gripping her.

>>
"Ah, wittle MANIA scared of the big bad crowds?" Shimabuku taunts making her glance at him.

"Are you jealous?" She asks making him laugh.

"Me? Jealous? Ha! Looks like you are finally losing your touch." He beams but she just tilts her head.

"I am certain Areta would be willing to hold your hand if you wore pants." She continues, clearly not listening to him.

"Men never wear pants if they don't have to!" He counters loudly making her frown.

"Neither do perverts." She finishes making him clench his fist.

"I lost!" He says as Luna looks at some of the food.

"A custom from my adopted homeland? While this can't compare to the great exhibition during the time of Victoria, I am certain it shall be lovely." Luna comments as Durga starts jumping up and down by the shooting range.

"Hey! Hurry!" She commands clearly already in festival mode.

Let her have her chance to relive her childhood memories. Well, the first person to have a chance.

>>25167493

This too. We're here to have fun, not win prizes. Even if that's not the point of the quest, this is a genuine opportunity for those who have the weight of the world on their shoulders to relax a bit from all of this heavy stuff.
>>
I should say everyone has the chance to play. I am just asking who is going for the big prize since only one member of your party, your group of six, can have the top one.

Does Agent Anon remember any times he went to the festival?

Like maybe early childhood, college, or even as part of a murder investigation or drug sting?

"Snark, you want in?' You ask mentally.

"No way, I see little point in such activities." He replies almost instantly.

"You sure? You helped in the beach level." You say and then feel your skin get goosebumps as the cold night air goes over your skin.

You can smell the yakisoba on the griddle and the sounds of laughter and joy become almost too loud as your ears adjust to the noise and you squint as your eyes get used to the bright torches being used at the festival. "Have fun. If you win something cool give it to me" he commands before saying something about "saving time".

You put the cork into the gun before taking careful aim at the prize. After a single shot goes wild you pretty much have the gun's behavior down as you take aim again. You fire your rifle, the small cork flying freely through the air and instantly move to reload before it even strikes. As the cork hits the large box in just the right way to make it wobble you aim and fire again, your cork hitting the box as it is in mid lean and send it over the side. You think of something cool to say, but realize your knowledge of cool movie lines is limited so think better of it.

"D-Damn you lady! Here take the damn prize! See if I care! I won't... I-I won't!" The vendor sobs as you take the prize. CHEN GETS GOLD BALL.*Can be cashed in later for prizes.

As the others take turns firing you decide to rate their progress.

Shimabuku sucks, but he seems to be having fun with it, so you leave him be.
Durga has already cleaned out all the prizes she wants, clearly her boasting was not exaggerated.
Areta is spending her time trying to teach MANIA how to fire properly and how to look for fake prizes
Luna has evidently managed to win a goth looking doll already

After a few more minutes in which Areta, MANIA, and Shimabuku all failed to get anything you move on. You let Durga lead you where ever she likes and she eventually drags you to the fortune teller's game. In this one you draw a fortune and you get a prize based on what you draw. You can only draw one however.

Your group draws your fortune and they read as follows.

Chen:Don't strain yourself: Average luck
Durga:That which you seek is closer than you think. Good Luck
Luna:Well... Watch where you step. Little luck
Areta:You are working too hard. Bad luck
MANIA:Sometimes thinking about life choices is good too. Worst Luck
Shimabuku: You are a child of God. Everything you try will turn out perfectly BEST LUCK

Shimabuku looks around confused before a mysterious looking shop keeper hands him a small golden ball. "huh, I don't get it but I win?" He laughs as you move on to the rest of the festival. As you look around the stands you see the ring toss is pretty empty so you get along it.

Who will go after the top prize?
[]MANIA, maybe she is good with rings?
[]Areta, She is good at putting things around shafts, ha ha ha
[]Luna, it seems easy enough for her to have fun with
[]Durga, She already has her eyes on a few of the prizes like a mad woman
[]Other, please specify

>Durga:That which you seek is closer than you think. Good Luck

Better not be implying what I think it's implying.
We're already spoken for by Azure Kite

>MANIA:Sometimes thinking about life choices is good too.

Maybe give her a compassionate pat on the back?

As for the rings, I'd say... Luna.

Also, I forget but what class is Areta?

I think we should wear the cat stuff and sneak up on shima while hes playing a game and sound as creepy as possible. If needed see if Snark has any way to make us look/sound scarier.

Sorry guys, need to go to bed now, will try hand at emails, may fail badly, consensus halp and reject crudly made ones or edit if salvageable.

>Ha ha, no way. She is fun to be around, but as for complexity... she seems pretty high maintenance! Besides, who am I to stand in the way of her slightly overbearing love for you? Ah, my turn. What's your type? Are you stringing MANIA along?

My type? I don't really think I have a type.

...I sounded just like a pervert or a desperate person, now, didn’t I?

To be honest, I don’t know about my type or if I’m stringing MANIA along. It’s been a long time since I gave a damn about anything in my life, and that pattern only broke after I signed up for the World.

“All aboard the USS Chen! Impervious Fields Set! Density levels maximum! Black Hole engine ready for ignition!

Destination: school and work. Mission: START.”

That is the lump sum of my childhood and adult life right there. I believe I’ve been robbed.

>... Radishes

Raw? Stewed? Stir-fried? Baked? Salad? Pickled? Steamed in one of those Chinese cakes you find at a dim sum place?

> The complexities of the message and the existential meaning are different, but to me it means you have to break through the overwhelming despair of your own existence in order to find life itself, and if you are crushed by the existential weight of life you can not really live.

Huh. Existentialism. Deep thinking.

If you don’t know despair, you can’t find happiness? Existence is despair, and you must break free of that despair to enjoy life?

Well, I’ve got no idea on what to do besides sing.

Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you

And always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life

C'mon Brian, cheer up!

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the bright side of life

Worse things happen at sea, you know
Always look on the bright side of life

I mean, what have you got to lose
You know, you come from nothing, you're going back to nothing
What have you lost? Nothing!

I believe I have her listed as a rogue. Have to check back to make sure I did not start flip slopping on it, but we will goo with that.

How about we call it here since everyone seems to be going to sleep? We can pick it up again on Monday.

Please don't forget there are greeting cards at the top of the thread. I dislike having to go through them with just one person responding.

Will be around for questions

I'm pretty sure there's an unspoken character limit for these things, though I do agree with the general sentiment.

>Areta
Since when have I given the impression that I have any idea what I'm doing? All I know is that she makes me scared, frustrated, and... happy, and I don't want to make her sad.

>MANIA
Raw?

Do we have enough in-character knowledge to at least vaguely suspect that the chair might be Harald Hoerwick?

How old were we when shit went down in the World R:1?
>>
>>25168562

We'd be 18 based on the age he gave us.

We really need to figure out if we played that shit, or when we started acting 'distant' from our sister.
