You are Captain Numeon Smith of the Knights inductor space marine chapter, and commanding officer of the Aprior sector Joint Task Force, on its first deployment to the troubled world of Tyrae.

After extracting your ASIS team from behind enemy lines, you learn of the genestealer presence on the planet, and have briefed the populace on the threat they pose.

Recently, large segments of the PDF have revolted, revealing their genestealer infection and sparking a civil war on Tyrae. You now must deal with the threat this rebel army poses before they can destabilize the planet and slaughter its citizens.

your task force stands as follows.

SpecOps: ASIS task force, Eldar Ranger squad.

Air Support: Valkyrie Avenger dropships, Shrike air-space fighters.

Heavy Armor: Fenris main battle tanks, precision rocket artillery.

Infantry Support: Sisters of Battle, Battlesuit Team.

Special Units: Confessor, Tau Commander.

As of last thread, it seemed that the general plan was to evacuate the citizens to the capitol and the relative safety of its environs. (please ignore my last post or two from last night, that was foolish and was the blighted spawn of a splitting headache and sleep deprivation.)

If you wish to proceed with this plan you must determine how you are to move so many people out of the combat zone before they are overrun.
>>
>>25158108
Have the genestealer-infected PDF massed in any way? Or are they fighting in a guerrilla force manner, not presenting a concentration of force that can be smashed?
>>
>>25158144
Large numbers are sticking to the cities and are enraging in brutal street fighting with loyalist forces.

Other significant portions have gone to ground and are fighting skirmishes in the countryside, you fear that they are attacking rural areas and capturing civilians to be implanted and swell their ranks.
>>
>>25158176
*engaging in brutal street fighting
>>
>>25158108
I was in favor of the rapid strike plan from last thread. But if other people want to do the siege thing we could do that. I just worry about excessive civilian casualties and economic disruption. I say we have an elite force target known rogue PDF bases one after the other. Hitting them fast and with no warning, and then withdrawing to hit the next one. Eldar scout and support (and disable AA defenses that would compromise insertion), marines and sisters purge.
>>
>>25158176
Right, but, do they have identifiable bases and strongholds?
Or are they a constantly roving, mutable and nebulous force?

If they don't have a center, then there's nothing that we can attack, and the idea of rapid strikes from here >>25158210
is worthless.
>>
>>25158210
I think it was more, 'get the civvies out of the line of fire and then declare half the planet a free fire zone.' than huddle for a siege.

Attacking their bases could be a good idea, but remember that significant portions of the rogue PDF have dispersed, and a number of 'stealer forces were civilians, and so not bound to bases.

Perhaps a combination of these strategies?
>>
>>25158246
They do continue to operate out of the turned PDF bases, and they are likely to have other hidden bases like the one you destroyed earlier, but simply razing these bases will not defeat them, but it will likely deny them access to several important resources like rearmament and repair facilities for vehicles.
>>
>>25158283
Capturing and using these facilities would be best, as it would deny them to the enemy and give us resupply points.
>>
>>25158259
A combination works for me.
>>
>>25158389
but they would be deep behind enemy lines. We are deepstriking critical logistics facilities.
>>
>>25158390
>>25158389
You call a meeting in your command center of your senior staff.

Gathering around the hololith, you summon a map of Tyrae, with far too many red marks denoting enemy positions for your liking. Looking up from the map, you face your commanders and begin your briefing.

"If we are to have any long term success in the campaign, we must first seek to remove the enemy's base of power."

Here you highlight several turned PDF bases with large cross hairs.

"If we were to remove the enemy's access to these bases, then we deny them access to the purpose built military facilities they will need to continue their campaign here. Without them they will be cut off from resupply, and eventually worn down and crushed.

With this objective in mind, we shall form a rapid strike force with the intention of leading deep strikes behind enemy lines to neutralize these bases, holding them if we can, razing them if we cannot.

Any questions so far?"

The tau commander Vael raises his hand.

"Would it not be more expedient to simply neutralize these bases with an orbital strike?"

You consider it, such a strike would be possible, but given the limited accuracy of your weapons for such an attack collateral damage is a possibility, and many bases are near or in population centers, to say nothing of the prisoners awaiting implantation there.

How do you respond?
>>
>>25158542
didn't somebody say we could improve targeting with beacons a while back? How stealthy are the eldar feeling today?
>>
>>25158597
This would aid in targeting, but a large problem is aerodynamics.

Your guns are simply not designed for bombarding ground targets, but a targeting beacon would definitely improve matters.

I would be willing to let the players roll to target, with the beacons granting a bonus to hit, but a miss would put the enemy on alarm and endanger any civilians in the area, but they could be evacuated as you still have JTF and PDF units in the area.

The eldar are as sneaky as always, very.
>>
>>25158542

How centralized are our informations on soldiers' identity? Securing the bases could give us something to base our further investigation into the scope of infestation and make rounding up the infested easier.
>>
>>25158542
"An orbital strike isn't feasible, our ship is designed for orbital bombardment, and a miss could cause catastrophic damage to the civillians.

Looking back on it, this seems to be a terrible oversight on behalf of the Navy, we shall inform the Navy that all future troop transports should have adiquate space-to-ground capability."
>>
>>25158673
You are currently conducting planet wide genetic screenings, and the JTF seems secure for the moment, as is the central planetary government.

The PDF is a mixed bag, but you know which units you can trust, and you have set up public clinics for walk in screenings so that loyal citizens can prove they are not infected.

But yes, the bases could potentially contain useful intel.
>>
>>25158710
Its not an oversight on the navy. The oversight was not equipping us with a space marine strike cruiser or battle barge, who are designed for bombardment.
>>
>>25158710

Or perhaps requisition a support frigate with such capability. Is it reasonable to splice additional functionality onto a vessel with already defined role?
>>
>>25158710
After the 'Flame received all its other upgrades, there was no room left for large canons, it still has enough firepower to fight off other ships though.

Alternatively you could launch a tactical nuke from one of your fighters and skip the whole business, but that would irradiate the area for a long time to come, and there are still civilians to worry about.
>>
>>25158741

How many of those bases are there, and how large forces are assigned to them?

I'm not saying we have to perform multiple simultaneous deep strikes, but how viable is taking them one, or handful at a time with adequately equipped and powerful force?
>>
>>25158751
>>25158752
They sent us to pacify a planet without means of orbital bombardment. Sounds like a pretty big fucking oversight if you ask me. I'm not asking for Exterminatus level distruction, just assigning us something that's capable of shooting stuff on the ground.
>>
>>25158774
I vote we deep strike
>>
>>25158774
Still seems like overspecialization to me, it'd be understandable if they paired us up with a ship that was capable of it, but having the only ship that's pretty much crap at space-to-ground seems like a pretty huge gap.
>>
>>25158805
Yes, we have a really crappy naval component for our ostensible goal, which is showcasing superior apriori tech. I'll get back to work on that component so OP can bring it in.
>>
>>25158808
What about extraction, or rescuing of the prisoners that have yet to be infected? If we're going to leave them behind, then we may as well go with an orbital bombardment or use our rocket artillery to turn the bases to rubble.
>>
>>25158796
There are approximately twenty major PDF bases spread across the planet. A strike force with a rapid operational tempo could seize four or five of them in short order before the rest go on high alert.

Guard forces vary, with the official roster listing battalion strength at many bases, while most others have a couple platoons, and only a few bases have tanks.

Are any additional precautions being made to care for the civilians, or are we simply going to try and avoid shooting them where possible?

>>25158805
the Knights generally do not consider orbital bombardment a viable tactic to solve an internal dispute, and as the GM I am somewhat reluctant to let my players resort to shooting everything from space until they are facing a thread which truly calls for it, like a full scale chaos or ork invasion.
>>
>>25158928
try to avoid shooting them where possible. We'll take the five bases in the most heavily populated area's out from the ground, then bombard the rest from space.
>>
>>25158928
>Are any additional precautions being made to care for the civilians
What about stun-gas chemical warheads on our rocket artillery?
Have we found any stun gas which works on genestealers after all of the research we've done on their physiology?

Are the civilians already trying to get away from the infected PDF bases, or are they being forced to stay there by the genestealers?
>>
>>25159014
No special vulnerabilities, but your standard stun gas warheads should work on most of them, although purestrains are somewhat resilient.

Orbital surveillance indicates that communities near uncontested 'stealer bases have begun to depopulate. It is speculated that genestealer forces have begun rounding up and implanting the citizenry, but those bases with loyalists nearby have been less successful.

People are fleeing the battles, but they do so largely unaided, those units which assist them do so on their own recognizance, no official plan has been enacted, but the JTF of course assists where able.
>>
>>25158928

That sounds manageable. Let's start with the largest one.

Aprior conditioning for "reasonable violence" - think before you shoot - should be enough for a precaution. It's not like we can evacuate civilians who are themselves liable to be infected, without alerting the rebels.

Hm... how's our stock of stun gas weapons? Many of those soldiers are loyal subjects of the Emperor led astray by corrupt officers, aren't they?
>>
>>25159145
You do not know the disposition of infected/not infected in the enemy ranks.

As you were coming to deal with large scale rioting against civilians, you are equipped with an ample stockpile of knockout and tear gas which can be loaded into a number of warheads, but you can hardly gas entire cities, strategic strikes are however possible.
>>
>>25159076
A combination of starting with rocket artillery stun gas bombardments followed up by rapid strikes in force to clean out each base, with Loyalist PDF/JTF Guard units to hold the bases and begin sweeping out to clear out infected.
We'll do this on the 5 bases with the most heavily populated areas first.
>>
>>25159265
Players confirm strategy?

Also confirm which units are broken up, two or three strike groups would be ideal for this sort of mission.
>>
>>25159306
Confirmed, though I am dubious about the holding. Use the knights, the sisters and the battlesuits
>>
>>25159306
Here's my idea:
Strike Force Alpha: 2 Knight Squad, Sisters
Strike Force Beta: 2 Knight Squad, Battlesuits
Fenris MBT's and Rocket Artillery to be divided between the two equally.
Shrikes on-station for close air support once AA defenses have been neutralized.

Loyalist PDF and JTF Guard to follow behind each Strike Group to secure flanks and gained ground.
>>
>>25159345
>>25158542
"Unfortunately our orbital strike capabilities are limited, and many of the bases are near populated areas, rendering such a strike too costly.

We shall form three primary attack groups, the first shall consist of the Knights Inductor, the second the Sisters of Reason, and the third the battlesuit team, each will be supplemented by elements of the JTF and any PDF loyalists in the area. Prepare your teams, we move out soon.

Do you do anything with the ASIS task force or the rangers?

Their priority is to remain undetected, so that we can use surprise as best we can. Also because we cannot afford any of them getting infected.
>>
>>25159527
"We shall divide into two task forces to carry out this operation, they stand as follows, Strike Force Alpha: 2 Knight Squad, Sisters Strike Force Beta: 2 Knight Squad, Battlesuits Fenris MBT's and Rocket Artillery to be divided between the two equally.

Which task force, if either do you accompany?
>>
>>25159583
We'll lead the one without the Tau commander.

We'll go with Strike Force Alpha.
Beta is in good hands with the Tau Commander.
>>

>>
>>25159815
You break and leave the conference room, the various teams loading their weapons and preparing to deploy, you see the battlesuit pilots strapping themselves into their suits before being loaded onto their Valkyrie.

You yourself file into a Thunderhawk with your brother Knights, taking the seat by the door.

As the ramp shuts, you see sister Cypress climbing into her Valkyrie, who waves, which you return before the ramp slams shut. After a moment, the roar of the engines drowns out all else outside your helmet, and you launch into the sky.

Your target is about an hour away, even for the mighty engines of your dropship. You call up a map of the operation on your slate, confirming that you are all in formation, Shrikes flying escort, and that beta force has peeled off to attack their targets.

Do you wish to converse with anyone as you make your way to the target, or proceed directly there?
>>
>>25159960
See how the PDF general is handling the situation.
>>
>>25159960
See how the PDF General and Colonel O'Neill are handling their respective units, and if we'll have enough personnel to effect a takeover of these bases or if we should lower our expectations.
>>
>>25160012
Activating your vox, you request to be put through to general Kiersen and, after a few moments of static, you hear the beleaguered general over your helmet speakers.

"Yes Captain, how may I help you?"

"I simply wished to inform you," you begin, "That the operation we discussed is under way, should all go well then the target bases should be back in our grasp before the sun has set."

"Good, that's, very good." The man breathes a weary sigh, turning to crackling white noise over the vox. "That's the first good news I've heard in a long time."

You wait for a moment before responding, "How bad is the situation general?"

"Bad, It isn't easy for them men. We were ready to defend this world, but not against our own comrades, they cannot trust each other, and it only works for the enemy's advantage.

We are trying to rescue as many people as we can, but we cannot save nearly as many as I would like, so many have simply disappeared. I pray that your mission goes well Captain, this might be just the break we need."

"The battle is not yet won general, do not be so hasty in your assessment."

"I know captain, I know, but we have the noble warriors of Aprior with us, so that has to count for something."

With nothing left to say, you cut off the transmission.
>>
>>25160050
If the traitors were to loose their logistical bases, then it would be very likely that the JTF and PDF forces could push the enemy back and retake lost ground.

Colonel O'Niell is carrying out his duties with admirable efficiency and has overseen many civilian evacuation efforts.

The JTF's blooding has not broken them it would seem, the best Aprior has to offer seem up for the challenge, but the odds they face are stiff and for every victory there is another defeat.
>>
>>25160157
Lets get going then
>>
I was thinking, how difficult would it be to institute the Aprior civil defense training program here?
If every able-bodied civilian knew how to use a lasrifle, then it would help ease the feeling of helplessness, and provide extra firepower during assaults by genestealers.

Whatever do you mean?

------

As you near the target, you vox ahead to the rangers embedded in the area.

"This is Captain Smith to ranger Crais, what is your situation?"

The calm tones of the ranger fill your ears over the vox.

"We have identified the enemy air defenses, and are prepared to neutralize them."

"What form of defenses?" you ask.

"Upward facing flak cannons." From the tone in the rangers voice, the Eldar is not impressed at all.

"And the base itself?"

Numerous infected occupy the base, and we can see what appear to be holding cells to the rear of the compound, I cannot currently see any armored vehicles in working order, though some are dissasembled at the garage."

"Very well, execute the operation." You vox the second half of the command to the entire strike team, the lights in the Thunderhawk troop bay switching to red as you speak.

"Gunners neutralized." Comes the calm word from Crais, and a few seconds later you hear the 'Hawk's engines flare as they jerk the ship to a stop, the ramp dropping.

You are the first to hit the ground, all around are the sounds of chaos as hybrids run for their weapons and the strike force hits the ground running, your brother knights following you down, and some sisters dropping on the roof of the central building.

State destination and general current objectives beyond 'kill everything', if any.

"Second squad link up with the sisters and secure the HQ, first squad with me!"

The Knights charge out after you, a tidal wave of ceramite in urban camo. Knight marksmanship is best any human in three sectors can hope to show, and it demonstrates itself ably here.

Those who fire back are cut down with precision fire, those who cannot run fast enough are crash tackled or left twitching from the hit of a shock maul.

You run forward, maul in one hand, bolt pistol in the other, idly throwing a tear gas grenade through the HQ window as you run past, before swatting a charging hybrid with your pistol.

You round the corner to the prisoner cages. The cages are full of men and women, and sometimes children in all forms of clothing and uniforms, you also see a purestrain.

This particular individual is hastily attempting to fasten the latch to one of the cages. Inside the cage several individuals loll about limply on the floor, gazing off into space, the purestrains ovipositor is still half out of its mouth as it turns to face you.

TBC
>>
>>25160817
Think about it, it's a completely logical move to make. Hybrids are enhanced human beings, and even being female they would still outperform our regular IG soldiers. If we can make deals with daemons, why not the Tyranid? We're not rabid xenophobes like the rest of the Empire.

A most unreasonable rage overtakes you, a hot fire tempered and guided only by decades of training and experience, you fire twice with your bolt pistol, the first shot taking off the hand on the latch at the elbow, the second barely missing the head, but it does send the monster's severed ovipositor flying off into the air.

Shrieking in pain and with blood flowing from its mouth, the xeno charges low at you, you go to fire again but the weapon clicks empty, so you simply let it drop, tightening both hands on your shock maul as you meet its charge.

You clash together like thunderclouds, wretched chitin and gnashing teeth scraping against unyielding ceramite and unshakable resolve.

You duck flashing claws and smash with your maul. You hear something crack. It wasn't the maul. You drive your armored fist into the creature's gut, sending it skidding back before winding up and hammering on it with the maul, smash after smash after smash.

You crack chitin, snap limbs, explode one of its eyes, and in the end all that is left is a whimpering heap of bloody flesh and broken chitin trying gamely to crawl away from you.

You walk over to it and flick it over with your boot, its remaining eye wide with desperate terror as it sees your boot rise again.

With a final stomp you smash in its head, spraying the walls with viscera.

You breathe deeply for a few seconds and rise, wiping off your boot as you retrieve you pistol.

"Check the prisoners and prep for triage, these people need medical attention." You say calmly as if nothing had happened.

They respond admirably quickly after they shake their surprise at the spectacle they had witnessed.

>>25161209
genestealers, at least the ones that are human hybrids, don't TRY to further the hive policy. They're pretty much human infiltrator units who have desires to A. live happy family lives and B. not die horribly.

They act as beacons for the hive fleet, having large families of further beacons to attract them to sweet, life bearing planets. When the hive arrives, they do their VERY BEST to run the fuck away, because they don't want to be eaten. They then try to start life elsewhere, maybe start a family...

We'll have to put an end to this.

No. We're not. Just because you're capable of killing something does not mean that it's not a threat.

Now go to /pol/ and annoy some anarchists with these arguments.
>>
>>25161330
Certainly, but what we're discussing now is the methods. I say we can't in good conscience start killing hybrids, instead we need to sequester them in prison camps and start shipping them back home when the situation stabilizes. It's basically why this quest exists, after all.
>>
>>25161367
We killed the purestrain effortlessly, so we're clearly much superior in fighting capability than them. Ergo, they were not a real threat to us. I don't understand why you try to argue against basic logic.
>>
>>25161405
because you need to read the fluff. Those things are deadly in Melee. We won so easily because we are the MC and we rolled really, really well.

He was a threat, but you rolled for critical, had the drop on him, and had backup if things had not gone well, since you rolled so well I decided to give you the epic curbstomp you deserved, that was the lowest roll in the entire quest.

This is the now the Tau commander Vael, he is a Pretty Cool Guy.

And yeah, I do love these discussions. Interesting that people are now clamoring for friendly 'stealers when they were rioting over the mere option back at the start of this thing, it takes all kinds I guess.

>>25161375
This is an entirely reasonable method of dealing with POWs. But attempting to arrest armed combatants in the middle of a firefight is not reasonable or practical, and those are two great pillars of the Knights Inductor.

-----

You hear a crashing sound behind you and whirl to face a threat, and are greeted with the sight of a large hybrid crashing through the wall before slamming into the ground, the sister who crash tackled him through the wall knocking him out with the butt of her bolter.

She looks up and you see that it is sister Cypress, who grins.

"Command center is secured Captain!"

She rises and dusts herself off, looking around at the bits of genestealer smeared over the ground.

"What happened here?"

Then she sees the cages, her face hardening, and she quickly joins the Knights prying open the cages.

Save for the occasional shot, which soon end altogether, there is only the groans of the wounded now in the air, the guardsmen you brought with you having landed in force and moved to secure the facility.

"We have the place secured sir." The guard sergeant informs you as they finish locking up the last of the hybrid prisoners, the wounded and recently implanted secured on outbound shuttles to receive the care they needed.

A few guardsmen were lost in storming the base, but thanks to your swift action and combat prowess losses were minimal.

Any further actions here, or move onto the next target?

"Nice work everyone, but we are not finished yet, those who are coming mount up and move out."

You assign a few squads of guardsmen to hold the base for the PDF and search for useful intel. As you walk by, you gently tap your fist against Cypress' shoulder, a silent gesture of respect amongst the Knights, and she grins, wiping blood from her gauntlets before going back to her gunship.

You lift off and proceed along to the next target.

The recently infected can be interrogated as they still possess individuality, but would know very little.

True hybrids would know more, but the treatment to reach the point where they can actually communicate and would be willing to do so is so time consuming that the campaign will be over by the time they would be done.

But genestealer commandos were on the original list of unit choices for the JTF, but the original players did not elect to bring them along, and a lot of people in the planning thread got very mad that they were even an option.
>>
>>25161829
So there was no way to see if this base's Command Center was linked to those of the other bases on our list, and if we could remotely disable their security grids?
>>
>>25161797

As you are proceeding to the next target you check in with commander Vael, who has recently taken his first target as well.

It seems that he used the battlesuit team to fly in low and fast under their defenses, opening a beachhead before the enemy could respond and offloading the rest of his force into the middle of the base. They have suffered light casualties and are moving out now.

Any other actions, or attack the next target now.

>>25161868
The local PDF, and by extension the 'stealers, have no such advanced battle networks, and their AAA is in the form of manned flak cannons, so the only way to hack them is with an axe.

They are searching for useful intel though, perhaps they will find something useful.
>>
>>25161829

I would not be surprised if same people now cried for a pet tyranid.

Ahem. I stand by our initial decision of not taking along too controversial specimens like Reasonable Tyranids or Reasonable Daemons. It's enough if the Inquisition tolerates us employing humanoid xenos for now. Perhaps with time the barriers will fade, but for now let's not take black federal agents to the confederacy, so to speak. That would be... unreasonable.

Capturing a patriarch and interrogating it, though... that might hold merit.
>>

>>25161808
I will not allow the jumping of anybody, at this point you are simply developing friendship, and we will see how it goes in the future.

You would have to do something fairly spectacular to make a farseer even want to work with you, let along romance you, so I will say that it is technically possible, but highly unlikely.

No psykers to summon a daemon, and that is against the Knight's beliefs, the daemons you can work with are an incredibly tiny minority and summoning one on your own is practically impossible.

The flight to the second base takes roughly half as long as your trip to the first, and in about twenty minutes you are on the vox with Hatchet leader.

"Gas the compound, I repeat, gas the compound."

"Rodger captain, Hatched flight engaging ground-side targets."

You watch out the windows as the Shrikes kick in their afterburners and fly off ahead.

"All units be advised, gas strike inbound on target compound, seal your helmets before opening the doors."

A chorus of affirmatives come back over the vox, and you prepare for action again. In the distance you can see the flashes of AAA fire through the low hanging fog of gas, but it is spotty and uncoordinated, and does little but pinpoint the gunners location to a quick retaliation strike by the thunderhawks gunner.

The armored ramp drops down and tendrils of lingering gas snake into the compartment as you jump out, armored boots crunching on the rockcrete parade ground.

Around the compound you see the forms of hybrids and 'stealers moving in the mist, some sluggishly, others flailing blindly in the noise and fog, and the shadows of gunships, like great predatory birds through the chem-fog swoop in low.

Roll out of 100 to engage, specify general plan of attack if any, and method of engagement.

You move out, keeping your eyes open for any prisoners to rescue or purestrains to terminate.

you move forward rifle in hand, as the shadowy figures of Knights, sisters and guardsmen moving forward, the coughing shaking forms of hybrids and implantees quickly falling under the weight of charging attackers or the impact of nonlethal ordinance.

It seems that purestrains have a higher resistance to the gas than their more human allies, but without their brood to aid them they are swiftly taken down by your comrades.

You fire a few nonlethal canister bolts towards a cluster of hybrids, shotgun-like spreads of rubber pellets smacking them down to the ground where they lay moaning and writing.

Not seeing any exterior cages this time, you put your boot through the door to the command center, pausing only to slam the but of your rifle between the eyes of a purestrain peeking around a corner, eyes tearing up from the gas.

You and your squad swiftly secure the compound, finding a few chained up prisoners and fresh implantees in a back room, and swiftly shock-mauling anyone who raised a hand against you.

As you come out into the light, the gas clearing away, you start voxing for status reports.

Between the gas, the speed of your strike, and your own abilities, it seems that no lives were lost in this attack, though several injuries take some guardsmen out of the fight.

Any further actions here, anyone you want to talk to on the way to the final target or any other planning which needs be done?

You secure the prisoners in their own holding cells, being sure to gag the ones with sharp teeth, and do a quick check of the cogitator.

You do not have enough time for an in-depth examination, but you do find a log and report left by one of the hybrids which he never got a chance to send.

It seems that they were using human-like hybrids and implantees to round up civilians under the pretense of an evacuation, so that they might be implanted more easily.

You find that most of the victims were being shipped off to another base, and you note that it is the final base you have yet to attack, although several civilians were kept here to be implanted, as you have seen.

Whether they were meant to swell the fighting force, provide menial labor, or as some form of sick entertainment is not clear, but you find each possibility highly disturbing.

To be honest, the recently infected are capable of doing little other than stumble around and follow basic instructions, they are certainly not combat capable.

It is however entirely possible that a warning has gotten out, it is not possible to know. The Shrikes have more ordinance, just not gas and are ready to provide precision strike support, you are also joining up with strike team two.

Also, has the ASIS task force been back in the home country all this time, or is it assumed that they are in strike group beta?

It looks like you have a little time on your hands before they return and you can engage the final base. People are checking their injuries and reloading, guardsmen are recharging their power packs and grabbing a quick meal.

Any actions while you wait, the gas has almost entirely dispersed by this point.

Pesky goblins always eating posts, that was half the reason I was so slow in the outset, 4chan ate about half my posts and I had to rewrite them.

>>25163238
ASIS task force added to task group beta, Jager and Co. happily smacking 'stealers around with Commander Vael.
>>
>>25161829

Aren't hybrids and purestrains completely bestial in mentality, with only the 4th generation hybrids (the ones that pass for human and sometimes are born as Magi) actually capable of human speech? though I believe 3rd generation ones have enough mental capacity to use guns and weapons that are more than clubs/knives

Capturing purestrains and anything but 4th generation hybrids seems pointless.
>>
>>25163240
Can we bring up schematics of the last base and coordinate with Cypress and Commander Vael on how our two groups will assault the base?

Alpha comes in from the south, while Beta comes in from the west. Alpha secures the command center while Beta secures the rest of the compound.
Shrikes provide CAS.
Rangers and ASIS provide perimeter control and sniper support.
>>
>>25163287
When I wrote this I didn't know that particular bit of fluff surrounding 'stealers, but I have chosen to more or less ignore it.

To my eyes we have a union of two intelligent species, and making stupid soldiers seems counterproductive for a race with such good genetic engineering, assume all 'stealers are intelligent for the purposes of this quest.
>>
>>25163327

... I suddenly feel like genestealers are just humans painted purple and put in cheesy 60's costumes.
>>
>>25163315
While waiting for the fighters, you call a conference with your staff in the command center, finding a printout of the final base's schematics.

Cypress and a guard sergeant come in, while Vael and Jager participate via vox relay, the rangers have already headed out to examine the target themselves, but have not yet arrived.

The final base is a bit larger than the ones you have attacked before, and is marked as a brigade headquarters, home to more troops and has heavier defenses, but nothing that you should not be able to breach given the force at your disposal.

"Vael, your force will come in from the west while we come from the south, the sisters and I will secure the central command center, whilst you and yours secure the remaining compound. Rangers and ASIS team secure the perimeter."

"You never let me have any fun!" Jager pouts jokingly over the vox, prompting Cypress to roll her eyes and scoff.

Your plan in place you are ready to proceed with the return of the Shrikes. any last minute preparations before you move out?
>>
>>25163423
Well, this is Star Trek with a thin paint of 40K aesthetics after all...
>>
>>25163476
Reprimand Jager for unprofessional conduct. We're not doing this for 'fun', but to protect people.
>>
>>25163423
The less human they are the more instinctual and bestial they act, but making stupid animalistic infiltrators will never end well.

It would only be a matter of time before a bestial hybrid ran through the streets of a hive chasing shiny objects and blow the entire brood's cover.
>>
>>25163507
"Lock it down Jager, we have a job to do here, this is no time for flippancy."

"Sorry bossman, after seeing what happened here," you can practically hear him shudder over the vox, "Just felt the need to lighten the mood, won't happen again sir." after a moment he mutters, "Frakking genestealers."
>>
>>25163507
More of a "Stow the chatter, Jäger, you'll get plenty of chances to use your SMG's as it is."
If you're going to be like that, you may as well play the part.
>>
>>25163551
Right then. I think we're ready to begin the final assault.
Maybe a warning that there may be a Patriarch here. Capture is preferable but kill it if you have to.
>>
>>25163551
>>25163601
"Besides, you will get plenty of chances to use those SMG's as it is."

The prospect of shooting some more 'stealers seems to cheer him up somewhat.
>>
>>25163636
ready to attack the final target now?
>>
>>25163687
right we are now proceeding since nobody has posted for a while.
>>
>>25163734
With this base secure and all the 'stealers in custody, you pile your forces back into their various gunships and take off, the Shrikes screaming past you a few minutes into your flight.

A few minutes after takeoff you receive a vox call from Crais and his rangers.

"Captain." comes the smooth voice, "We have reached the target and are examining it now. It appears that it has been somewhat reinforced by its new occupants, I am seeing a number of flak guns and bunker emplacements, and a great host of hybrids and purestrains has gathered here, along with a number of prisoners."

"Show me." you order, level voice not betraying any emotion.

"Very well, but you should prepare yourself Mon'Keigh, the sight is... disturbing."

TBC
>>
>>25163816
You hold up a dataslate and patch through the video feed from Crais, which fizzles into visibility a few seconds after you achieve connection.

Firstly you note the guard positions and sandbagged fortifications, a few small bunkers, nothing a few precision shots from the gunships cannot fix, you are about to patch Vael in, when a sight kills the word in your throat.

A number of PDF trucks are parked here, benches set up in the back converting them into makeshift troop transports. In the back of several a number of grim faced refugees huddle, watched over by gun-toting hybrids. Another group is being dragged away towards the other end of the compound.

A terse word to Crais and the viewpoint shifts to follow them. The groups are being led to a fenced off area, where a number of other refugees are chained up. Purestrains walk calmly down the rows of prisoners, methodically implanting each new group as they are led in, the unconscious victims being carried out by hybrids to make room for more.

Not personnel carriers, cattle cars, the whole base has been converted into a processing area for fresh victims.

You shut off the feed and grip your weapons tighter, telling the strike group to prepare for hostile contact, this looks to be a big one.

Proceed with attack as planned?

>>
>>25163986
No, we're gonna go home and pack up, what did you expect?
>>
>>25163986
As planned. Have the Rangers snipe the Purestrains doing the implantations.
>>
>>25164045
Just wondering if there was any change of plans, attack now commencing.
----

"This is Smith to all operation elements, attack is a go, watch your fire down there, a lot of civilians."

You hear the scream of afterburners kicking in as the Shrikes scream forwards, and a few moments later the vox opens up, Crais again.

"The gas has hit the target, as are eliminating sentries as best we can, but the smoke does interfere with targeting at this range."

"Just try not to shoot our people." You say as the gunship swings in, guns suppressing enemy forces.

The ramp hits the ground for a third time and you leap through, a familiar visage greeting you, a compound awash in smoke and the air filled with shouts and howls and gunfire.

Post next move and roll for combat.

Your brothers pile out of the hawk and rush for the nearest piece of cover they can see, firing as they go.

"LIGHT UP THE NIGHT!" you chorus as your bolters do exactly that. You think the sisters have hit the ground somewhere to your right, but in the smoke and fire it is hard to tell.

You crouch low and line up a shot on a purestrain struggling to disentangle himself from the man he was about to implant, a burst of fire neatly chopping the creature apart.

"Advance by fire and movement!" you vox, "First squad with me!"

First squad falls in with you as second suppresses, you advance on the implantation compound. Finding cover, you cover second squad as they rush up past you.

You quickly eliminate the guards and breach the fenced off area, eviscerating the first purestrain you see with a bursts from three Knights, another knight vaporizing an arm with a plasma gun.

The other purestrains in the compound turn to face you, roll to engage them.

>>
>>25164296

The snipers should go after the purestrains, but the bulk of the attack should be directed at the trucks -- kill the guards and whoever of our guys gets to the steering wheel first and isn't impeded from driving by armor, drive off to safety immediately.
>>
>>25164448
>19
The purestrains charge towards you, leaping past their prospective victims to get at you. A blast of plasma fells one in mid leap, and bolter fire tears open another, but there were several in the compound, and they are all rushing you.

You snap up your rifle and shoot one, bringing it down but the rest are upon you now, the compound a whirling melee of slashing claws armored fists and shock mauls.

One Knight is dragged down, a brother shooting the beast off of him with a pistol before he himself is tackled, you smash a monster with the butt of your rifle and fire point blank at another, blasting its thorax open.

You turn your rifle to fire on another bounding into the fight, but it disappears in a sudden cloud of dust and rubble.

Rising from the small crater, a tau crisis suit swings around and blasts a 'stealer in half with a point blank shot, bludgeoning another with the barrel of its guns.

With the sudden reinforcements, you quickly turn the tide and finish off the beasts. Examining your wounded brother you find him alive, but badly wounded, it will likely take some time in a medicae for him to be able to fight again, but he is in no immediate danger.

"Captain." Vael's voice hums through his suits amplivox, "We have secured the perimeter, and sister Cypress has rescued the refugees at the vehicle pool. The enemy has suffered great casualties here and are retreating to the command center, we hold the field."

As if to reinforce his point, a few battlesuits whiz by, practically skating over the ground, storm bolters blazing away at the fleeing xenos.

It seems that the outside of the complex is secured, but the HQ itself is still held.

Actions?
>>
Numeon, Seize that HQ!
>>
>>25164741
Evac the civvies and nuke the place, it's the only way to be sure.
>>
>>25164741

Get the civilians out and do any necessary medevac first. Form lines and surround the HQ at some distance. Illuminate it for bombardment should it become necessary.

Send troopers to make sure there are no underground escape ways.

"Today we bag us a Patriarch. Any volunteers?"
>>
>>25164775
This facility is close to a city where loyalist forces are still fighting, a nuclear detonation would likely endanger them, and contaminate a major population center with fallout.
>>
>>25164794
we don't have proof that the patriach is there.
>>
>>25164799
No, we are not nuking the place.

We will reform the Knight squads and Sister squads, leaving behind the injured for medevac.

We will have the battlesuits blow open several holes into the HQ, so that they won't know which entrance we'll use. Then rush in on one.
Rangers and ASIS to provide sniper support, battlesuits to cover the exits.
>>
>>25164799
Collateral damage is a bitch, but we simply cannot proceed further into that compound. The risks of encountering a plot hook are too great.
>>
>>25164915
The problem is that if we want to avoid the OP railroading us, that's exactly what we cannot do. Nuke the place and leave no plot ends hanging, I say.
>>
>>25164915
agreed.
>>
>>25164794
"Cypress, get those trucks running and get the civilians out of here." you vox.

"On it captain!" her relish at foiling the plans of so vile a pack of xenos showing through.

"Vael, move the troops in and surround the HQ, get some spotlights on it and set up firing positions, nothing gets out."

"Yes sir."

With the troops assembled and the HQ surrounded, you activate your suits amplivox.

"Guardsmen, sisters, brother Knights," You glance at Jager, "and other warriors. We have cornered this pack of the enemy, driven them to ground in their own headquarters.

Look there, look how they cower in what was their place of power a few minutes ago. See how they flee before you. Now our task is to drive these monsters from their holes and end their threat.

Such a task shall be dangerous, who shall volunteer?"

Predictably, every Knight raises their hand as one, as does Cypress and her sisters. Jager also raises his hand, and the SMG clutched in it, a fierce fire in his eyes.

Commander Vael shrugs his battle suit. "My suit will not fit captain, I shall await you here."

You nod and turn towards the HQ, your volunteers falling in behind you.
>>
>>25164915
>>25164951

Better yet - have most of our forces assemble into essentially a huge firing squad around the compound, then make holes until clear path to the most likely location for the patriarch. Then move in closing the circle.

Anything that escapes us will run outside and be mowed down cleanly and efficiently.

Also, do not listen to >>25164923, as that anon is foolish and should not be given any consideration.
>>
>>25164964
The stealers may have grenades and some heavier ordnance inside the HQ.
We can't be complacent and believe that the enemy will only use half-charged lasrifles forever.
>>
>>25164988
>>25164915

So, storm the HQ, or demolish it and count the bodies after the smoke clears?
>>
>>25164981
It's alright, I don't think you need to retcon.

Instead, have Vael and his battlesuits open up holes in the HQ building with their heavy weapons as planned.
That will give the volunteers multiple entry points while providing many avenues of fire for the Rangers and ASIS snipers.

From among the volunteers, those that are injured we will have stay behind to help the battlesuits in maintaining a strong perimeter.

Have the Shrikes on standby to blow open a wall when we call for it.

How come? You've written some grandiose encounter you plan to run us through, but what if we just want to skip off the tracks instead? Why not?
>>
I have a question:
How difficult would it be to institute a civil defense program on this planet like what we had in the Aprior Sector?

Give every able-bodied man and woman basic lasrifle and combat training. Sure, they won't be the equal of even PDF, but they'll be extra firepower when the time comes, and the morale boost from knowing a little bit of how to fight (enough to think they have a chance, but not enough to realize they're pretty much fucked) could help to keep panicking in check.

Full planetary mobilization and genetic scanners at every spaceport are the two things that most of the Inquisition agreed are useful enough to consider for Imperium-wide deployment, so we may want to consider starting some of that here.
>>
>>25165030

"Vael, keep the building covered, we are moving to breach the wall." You say as you begin jogging forward, the other Knights forming a line to either side.

"Shall I open an entry point?" Vael asks, raising his canons.

"No need, Knights, breach that structure!"

you and the Knights begun to run forward, long leaping strides rapidly picking up speed, quickly accelerating to maximum velocity.

A marine in full combat loadout ways over one ton, and can easily outrun a normal human on the worst of days. The sheer kinetic energy of a charging marine is on the order of a mounted heavy weapon, and leaping forward, all of that energy was concentrated in the tiny forward edge of your right pauldron.

The wall of the HQ was reinforced against lasguns and stubbers, even small rockets, but it was definitely not marine-proof, and the wall exploded inwards in a blast of dust and rubble, the Knights quickly snapping up weapons and checking the room, finding it to be clear of hostiles.

TBC
>>
>>25165140
Definitely doable, you are currently airing the Aprior PSA,s and conducting anti genestealer training classes, but a long-term civil defense program would be just that, long-term.

Such a program is well on its way to starting and, assuming the planet is secured, it would seem fairly easy to convince the governor to institute such a program.
>>
>>25165154

You kick the door off its hinges and sweep into the corridor.

"Clear left!" says one Knight, "Clear right!" another.

The strike team fans out through the building, sweeping room by room until the final verdict comes in. The entire building is clear of hostiles, nothing found at all.

You sweep the building, checking the floors for any sign of a trapdoor or secret entrance. You are walking through a store room when you feel the floor give slightly beneath your armored bulk.

Bending down, you see a hairline seam along the floor, and yank it up. Kindling your luminator, you see a dimly lit stairwell descending deep into the ground beneath the base and out of sight.

Can we fit through?

Also, vox the tech-adept, what was his name...anyway, tell him to look on the planet for mineral surveyor companies or groups. See if they have seismic sensors that they use for looking for mineral and resource deposits. They should be able to detect tunnel networks, and they can be used to check for genestealer tunnel networks.
>>
>>25165431
First this >>25165431
then if we can fit through, go down.
Do we have any communication repeaters that we can lay down as we proceed through the tunnel?
>>
>>25165431
Yes you can fit.

"Kalec." you vox, "This is Captain Smith, come in."

After a few seconds Kalec responds, "What may I do for you Captain?"

"We have encountered several tunnels the genestealers were hiding out in, they were not in the plans for the facility we are attacking, you may wish to set up seismic sensors and start scanning the cities for possible tunnel infiltration."

"Yes sir, I'll get right on it." Kalec's clipped response indicating he was switching into buisiness mode.

>>25165422

"Vael, the structure is clear, but we have found a tunnel, move up and secure the entrance, we are moving down to investigate, we may be out of contact for some time, so hold the fort."

"Best of luck Captain."

You nod to yourself and walk down into the dark, The stairwell is dark, not that it bothers you of course, and continue deep into the earth for some time, Before you begin to see light spilling out from the other end.
>>
>>25165524
Better get a grenade ready, and our bolter pistol.
And everyone behind us.
>>
>>25165557
You grab a grenade in your hand, bolt pistol in your other, signaling the team to prepare for contact with a few quick hand gestures.

Moving to the bottom of the platform, you stick to the shadows and peer out into the chamber ahead.

It appears to be a living quarters or barracks of some kind, bunk beds pushed up into clusters blankets all over the floor, at the other end a pair of hybrid guards huddle behind an overturned table with lasguns, peeking cautiously over the lip towards the entrance, but they don't seem to have seen you.

Allright, as much as I love this quest it is 11:30 and I have been running it since 4, and it looks like most of the players have left.

I am going to a friend's birthday party tomorrow afternoon, so I don't know if I can start a thread tomorrow night, but definitely sunday barring any great thread, I think that was the best yet in my humble opinion.

If nobody has any questions I will see you around, thank for playing.

No. If we the players choose to jump off the track, it will be based on an informed consensus, not a mere randumb impulse in the middle of an action, with only justification being "lel fuck this shit, let's open up a used tank shop in the eye of terror" or "I'm too old for this shit. We're not on a mission to find the lost craftworld of the 40000 sleeping elfdar virgins"
