And so I'm finally back from my vacation! Time to get to it and get VALKYRIAN MERCS QUEST going again!

Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Valkyrian%20Mercs%20Quest
Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/h8paJQKq

Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles

You are JAGER STURMFUHRER, leader of the fledgling mercenary company DEMONS OF RANDGRIZ. In addition to fighting Imps for money and vengeance, you have your own private mission to hunt down Karla, your former fiance who sided with the Imperials and destroyed your home.

You've arrived in the Federation nation of Albion to help defend it against a possible amphibious attack. However, your boots barely hit the deck before you were assigned a mission to break up a spy ring. However, through a chain of extraordinary events, you not only smashed the spy ring apart, but also managed to capture an Imperial u-boat (mostly) intact, which you repaired and rechristened the Vergeltung.

After rooting out several Imp spy rings and fighting off an Imperial amphibious invasion by defeating their leader, Belkan Knight Sir Fleisher, you've decided that it's now time to move on to greener (or at least more profitable) pastures. You and the Demons left Albion for the besieged nation of Ustio, with new gear and squad members in tow.

Your first mission went well enough, routing a platoon of Imperial soldiers threatening the city of Valais' supply lines. Now it's time eliminate an artillery battery that's been harassing the city and preventing the Ustians from counterattacking.

"You sure this is the right place?" You grumble, checking the map for what must be the 100th time.

"YES." Sam, Elizabeth, Tarin, and Isolde say all at once. You had all spent the last couple of days brainstorming on the possible locations of the twin Gorgon superheavy artillery pieces. With performance details provided from Isolde, as well as some number crunching between Sam and Elizabeth, you managed to narrow down possible firing positions to one valley. It was actually much closer to the frontlines that you thought it would be, but since they had to lob their shells at high angles to clear the mountains, their choices were limited, which was good for you.

You decided to move out during night, to ensure you wouldn't be seen by any Imperial artillery spotters that infested the mountains. You've still got a couple of hours until dawn, which gives you some breathing room on how you want to approach to the valley. Since this was Ustian home turf, General Freyberg was kind enough to provide you with maps of all the roads and passes around Valais, with quite a few the Imps were sure to have missed.

"Cap." Sam taps your shoulder and points to the mouth of the valley, where you see Brillant and Ramirez approaching from their scouting mission.

"It's pretty much what we expected, sir." Brillant says. "Dense forest, and not a lot of road. We also spotted several Imp patrols, too."

"I don't know if we can take the vehicles with us. Not if we want to stay quiet." Sam frowns. "But we have the relative high ground here, so they could provide us with some limited fire support and keep this pass open as a line of retreat..."

Okay, we'll want to take the bulk of the squad with us, and leave behind a force to hold a position just in case.

So leave Aleksandr, just in case they have other things that come up, the two tanks, and maybe one other.
>>
>>25079726
Ramirez stays to provide anti-lancer/explosives support, the rest of us move in.
>>
Did Julia get the 88mm mounted yet?
>>
>>25079938
Yes, she already has the 88 equipped.
>>
Ramirez+Alek is what I would go for. Stormtrooper+sniper at a good distance just in case it gets too hot.
>>
>>25079964
True, and the sniper won't do us much good crawling through bushes two inches from the enemy's face. Ramirez + Alek seems good to me.
>>
>>25079964
Might also want to equip some plastic Plastic Explosives to a crew member as well. Just because we are on demolition duty and might just get lucky enough to avoid detection for a while.

Another thing is making sure Elizabeth is around to intercept enemy comms.
>>
>>25080095
I assumed Heloise had them, but if she doesn't make sure she does.
>>
>>25079726
"Alek, Ramirez, you two stay here and hold the fort. Alek, can you get a vantage point from here?"

"Well, I can climb a bit up this mountain and get some good line of sight. Range might be troublesome, though. It's a big valley."

"I know you can do it." You assure him. "The rest of you, we're going into the valley. Essentials only. We need to be quick and quiet."

The rest of the squad nods, checks their weapons, and begin to move in. Ahead, you can see two methods of approach.

First, there's the woods. There's lots of cover you can use to hide from the Imps, but it's thick and large. There's actually a very good chance you can get lost in there. Second is an old logging road. From the fresh tracks and footprints, it's obvious it's being used for supplies or patrols. Following it is a guaranteed straight shot to the target, but chances of being spotted by a patrol are much higher, since they'll frequent the road more often.

"We're going for a bit of a hike, Demons." You say. "Tarin, Brillant, I want you two on point. We need to find our way to the target, preferably before sunrise."

Both scouts nod and silently filter into the forest while the rest of your squad follows close behind.

You make good time through the forest. Brillant seems to be in his element, since the Ustian mountain ranges resemble his homeland. He picks his way through the trees and brush to find an effective path.

Meanwhile, the forest is almost completely silent. The leaves and brush do a good job of absorbing sounds, and the noise the Imps and their artillery cause scared away most of the native wildlife.

However, you see Tarin kneel and make a fist, warning you to hold position.

"What do you see?" You whisper.

"Because somebody with more shiny pins than we do said so." The lead scout retorts, obviously just as enthusiastic about this patrol as his buddies. "That's all there is to it."

One of the scouts stops and looks in your direction for a second, tilting his head curiously.

"Hey! Mike! What the hell are you doing?!" One of the shocktroopers yells. "Lets get going and get this shit over with."

"I thought I heard somethin-"

"There's fucking nothing but trees. Trees where we were, trees where we are, and we're going to be walking into even more trees! Just get your ass moving!"

"Fine, fine." The scout grumbles and follows his squadmates, not even giving a second glance back."

You can see Tarin just shaking her head. "Unprofessional."

As you make your way further into the forest, you come across the river. It's not particularly big or threatening, though. One by one, your squad begins stepping or jumping over the river, except for Sam, who stands at the edge of the river with a glum look on her face. You wonder what could possibly be going on when it clicks.

Due to her size, Sam's not tall enough to just step over the river, and her lancer gear made her too heavy to just jump over it.

"Problem, Sam?" You ask, trying not to grin or smile.

"Shut. Up." Sam scowls.

While funny, you realize that you're wasting valuable time. You need to move right now.

"Okay, here we go." You say as you bend down and pick her up, slinging her over your shoulder.

"Hey! S-stop it, Cap! This is embarrassing!" Sam wails.

"Ah, it's not like it's the first time we did this." You grin. Now all you have to do is get across the river. Preferably without getting wet.

You try make a running leap across the gap with Sam over your shoulder, but... you don't quite make it. Whether it was because you flubbed the jump, or Sam's extra weight, you land just short of shore and are rewarded with your boots getting drenched in freezing water. Your shit eating grin suddenly turns into a pained grimace.

"Serves you right." Sam pouts after you set her down on shore. The other Demons are trying not to laugh, whether from the carry stunt or the failed jump or both, you're not sure. A venomous glare from both you and Sam silences them.

Meanwhile, this whole time, Heloise has been kneeling at the shore staring at the water, her face contorted as if in deep thought.

"Heloise! What are you up to?" You ask.

"There's something about this water..." Heloise dips her finger into the water and licks it. "I knew it!"

"What?"

"This river's contaminated with motor oil and gunpowder. I'll bet you the Edelweiss that the Imp battery we're looking for is upriver from here."

The thundering of the distant cannons serves to hide the noise your squad make as they sneak past the 8 man patrol. They continue on their business, loudly clomping their way through the woods on the lookout for intruders that they have already missed.

It's another few minutes before you reach the edge of a rather large clearing. You can see that the Imps have set up a semi-permanent firebase in the valley, with a cluster of buildings surrounding two massive, stubby barrels pointing at the sky. One of them suddenly roars as it vomits flame and smoke, its oversized shell screaming through the air as it heads for some unfortunate Ustian's house.

"Jackpot." You whisper.

Quickly scanning the area, you come up with several possible plans to neutralize the cannons.

Unfortunately, whether it was the difficulty of aiming the shot, or if the Ustian gunners' accuracy wasn't up to par, most of the shots land wildly, failing to hit the Gorgons but managing to make a mess of pretty much everything else around them. On artillery shell scores a direct hit, blowing a chunk off of a Gorgon's front side. Julia's 88mm shell screams overhead, plowing into the Gorgon's track. Mortar shells land on both Gorgons. While not doing much damage to the guns themselves, the mortars do manage to kill or scatter the crews, preventing them from being able to move the guns to a safer position.

However, not every shell hits the enemy. One such such lands perilously close to your position, serving as a cold reminder that you're also technically in the line of fire.

Meanwhile, ammo caches are set off and explode in a cloud of flame, forming a brief second sun. The Gorgons are wounded but not down, and either case they won't be going anywhere for a while.

After what seems like an eternity, the shelling finally ends as Freyberg's guns have to stop to restock their ammo. You notice that as soon as the shells stop falling, Imps are already running back to try and repair the Gorgons and put out the fires. At the rate they're going they might be able to get the moved before the next bombardment is ready.

"Demons! We're going to go in and finish those things off!" You yell.

The guards are still scattered and confused, after all. It should be relatively simple to blow past them.

Your shots don't really do much damage, but it keeps most of the Imps in place while the rest of your squad throws their frag grenades and Sam and Isolde fire off their frag lances. Explosions ripple across the Imp line, basically wiping the defenders out.

Unfortunately, they manage to get a volley of shots off. Tarin takes a rifle shot the shoulder while Isolde take two hits in her breastplate and collapses.

"Isolde!" Sam rushes over to her fellow lancer and rolls her over. She's still alive, for now.

"I-I'm fine." Isolde mutters.

Heloise does a quick check on Isolde. Her armor managed to stop one of the bullets, the other managed to penetrate.

"The wound's shallow." Heloise grimaces. "But it's going to take a while to fix. Tarin's wound, too."

You frown. It's only a matter of time before more Imps start to rally and swarm you, but you can't very well keep pushing with two of your squad hurt.

"I don't think we can do this on our own, Cap." Sam frowns.

"Heloise." You turn to your engineer. "Get Tarin and Isolde patched up. Get them to cover before Freyberg fires he next salvo."

"Got it." Heloise begins pulling out ragnaids.

Fortunately, with the fires and secondary explosions, the other guards don't notice the brief firefight that took place and continue with their efforts to try and save the Gorgons.

Suddenly, you a hear faint noise under the roar of fire and music. Was it... music?

"What the hell is that sound?" You ask moments before Headcase's tank destroyer bursts from the treeline.

"HEEEEEERE'S HEADCAAAAAAASE!"

"Headcase! Where's Julia?" You ask.

"She's still trying to get through the forest with the others. Fenrir doesn't really agree with this forest, apparently."

You turn to look at the Gorgons. This close, there was no way Headcase could miss them. Plus his cannon was powerful enough to completely demolish them with a direct hit. On the other hand, those guns would make great salvage, but that would mean you'd have to eliminate every Imp in the area in order to safely capture them.

You decide to check in on Tarin and Isolde, who are still recovering from their wounds. While the ragnaid has healed the for the most part, they're still exhausted from the ordeal.

"Hey, are you two all right?" You ask, a bit worried.

"I've had worse." Tarin shrugs, and then winces as the motion irritates her wounded shoulder.

"Likewise." Isolde nods in agreement. "A Knight would never succumb to such a minor wound."

You nod. Given both their backgrounds, you have no doubt they're no stranger to getting hurt. However, you get the feeling they're also saying it so as not to worry you.

"Good job on the medical care." You say to Heloise appreciatively.

"Aw, it's nothing. Just twist and pop a ragnaid." Heloise laugh lightly.

"Well, you did a good job anyways." You say, leaning back to get some rest. You knew that even though this mission was over, Freyberg would be throwing another one at you.

Meanwhile, on the other side of Europa, Sir Erik Schnee prepares for one of his greatest and most difficult battles yet.

Politics.

"Princess, why must I attend the Council meeting?" You ask, not even bothering to hide your glumness. "My place is on the battlefield, not a council chamber."

"Because." Princess Karla Hohenzollern says striding down the hall, "I have a special project I must attend to that requires my personal attention. I have no time for Council matters, and you are the only one of my personal guard present."

"Why didn't you just send me to Ustio with Sir Heinrich?" You ask.

"As you wish Princess." You bow. "I shall do battle for you within the council chambers. I will rip their guts out with my insightful words and use them to grease the treads of my awe inspiring arguments. I shall verbally cut them down and rain your agenda down upon them like artillery.

Metaphorically speaking of course."

Karla bursts into laughter at your sarcastic yet blunt summary of what you intend to do. You know this is something she would never be able to do in public, which makes you a bit glad she trusts you enough to act this way in front of you.

"Ah, the searing Phoenix wit. You can make a heated battle out of anything, can you?" Karla says, wiping a tear from her eye.

"But honestly, I know nothing about the Council."

"Just a bunch of doddering old fools who care more about looking good in front of the Emperor than acting in the best interests of Belka." Karla waves it off. "All you need to do is use your position as representative of the Knights to veto everything they try to pull. That's all there is to it."

"What if they implement something that's actually beneficial?" You ask.

"It would be the first time I've ever seen it." Karla shakes her head. "Just... can you please make sure nothing happens? Father isn't quite what he used to be in his prime. I'm afraid one of these days he'll actually listen to what those old fools say."

Spotting is pretty complicated though, you need direct two way communication to all of the batteries firing. They have to space out their shots and calculate the time to impact, and when the shell hits they sound off one by one with the battery name. That's how you know who fired what and how you should direct them on target. We wouldn't have been able to start spotting there without having all of the batteries fire again. And that one was already awfully close..

Anyhow it's clear that we need to designate/train someone for spotting full time since we seem to be relying on artillery a lot. (especially in this particular theatre of operations) Alek maybe since he tends to have the best view, or maybe even Elizabeth if she does a field op with us.
>>
>>25084774
"Why do you hate the Council so?" You ask. As you've said before, you've never really paid attention to the politics of Belka. You were off fighting some sort of enemy or another.

"The Council is a poison that festers in the heart of Belka. For generations they've done nothing but try to undermine the power of the monarchy and the knighthood. I've done my best to stem their actions, but they have their small victories. They cast out Isolde and involved us in that disastrous war with Gallia. They continue to make pacts with the Empire that chips away at Belka's independence. Independence it fought hard for when it was annexed into the Empire."

"How can they be so disloyal? Have they not taken oaths of fealty and honor?"

"That's the problem." Karla shakes her head sadly. "The Council is an Imperial institution. Knighthood is not necessary to hold a Council seat."

First things first, you need to find the squire. Even though you have your pride as a knight, any smart knight knew never to go into battle alone. You suspect he would be waiting near the Council chamber. Sure enough, you find a very young man, more like a boy, practicing sword swings in the courtyard outside the building the Council held their meetings in.

"Squire Williams?" You ask.

"Ah, yes, that's me! A pleasure to meet you, Sir Schnee!" Williams salutes.

"Where's your heraldry, boy? I don't see any." You say, giving Williams a close scan.

"Ah, about that..." Williams frowns. "I haven't been assigned to a proper knight yet."

"Well, we'll worry about that later."

"First things first, tell me what this meeting is about." You say. "I don't like going into battles without knowing what I'm getting into."

"Well..." Williams sheathes his sword and pulls a ledger from his pack. Peeking inside, you see he has quite a lot of them. "There's only one major issue to deal with today. It's about what to do about Belka's Darcsen population."

"What of it?" You ask.

"Well, historically, Belkan is one of the most lenient Imperial states when it comes to the treatment of Darcsens. Since Belka's original laws mention nothing about ethnic heritage, by letter of the law, Darcsens count as Belkan citizens and are afforded the same protections. The Council's current agenda is to uh.... 'rectify' that mistake."

>>
>>25085890

"I don't care much for Darcsens. But to call our laws and statutes of citizenship a 'mistake' is to reveal the Council's true agenda. If we cede to them here, which of our laws and tradition will they deem a 'mistake' next?"
>>

As much as I'd like him to hate Darscens, we can't begin his rebellious character arc if he's glad about what the Council s doing.
>>

"A mistake?" You seethe. "Getting rid of our laws and replacing them with Imperial ones is called "rectifying a mistake" now?"

"Ummm... I'm just repeating what the Councilmen have been saying..." Williams says, back off as he senses the unbridled fury emanating from you.

Truth be told, you don't particularly care for Darcsens, but then again, you don't HATE them to the extent the rest of the Empire does. They've traditionally had their place as armourers and smiths in Belka. In fact, you believe your own tank was built by Darcsen hands.

Still, the fact that the Council was arrogant enough to consider changing Belka's very first laws, written since the age Belkans pulled themselves from barbarism and united as a single nation, was blasphemous.

"Come, Williams. We will make sure this meeting will be an unproductive one for the Council." You say, making your way to the entrance.

"Yes sir!" Williams obediently follows close behind you.

You stride past dozens of posted guards. All them recognize you and do not bother trying to stop you. You finally reach the Council chambers proper, and you find yourself in a large room with a circular table in the center. There are seated 12 doddering old fools and King Priam Hohenzollern IV, supreme monarch of Belka.

"Who are you?" One of the Councilmen sneers.

"I suppose all my heroic deeds and actions are written down in those ledgers and books you carry with you?" You whisper to Williams.

"Yes, sir. The Princess was very specific in what I had to study up on."

"Good man."

>>25086157
"I am Sir Erik Schnee, the Phoenix Knight!" You proclaim loudly and proudly for everybody in the chamber to hear. "I personally ended the Red Scarf Rebellion, slew the Fallen Knight Selphir, defeated the Federation at the Battles of Ludstein, Volgo, Vergha, Salvation Point, and many more. I have escape death no less than thirty nine times and have one six hundred duels with worth opponents. I am Princess and Grand Master Karla Hohenzollern's appointed representative for this meeting!"

The King nods sagely. "I have no idea what any of that means, but it certainly sounds IMPRESSIVE, doesn't it?"

The Councilmen all nod sycophantically, but are all clearly scowling at your presence.

The lead Councilman, Geffen, according to Williams, then stands.

"Now, back to the matter at hand before we were so rudely interrupted..."

Your eye twitches. Keeping true to Karla's wishes was proving harder and harder by the second.

"We must find a way to deal with the Darcsen Problem." Geffen continues. "The Darcsen population has done nothing but grow in the past few years. In fact, our studies have shown that they will soon make up thirty percent of Belka's total population if five years if nothing is done about it."

"It would also help if they weren't constantly sending troops into foreign lands to fight the Empire's wars." Williams whispers to you.

"The problem is that being considered Belkan citizens, Darcsens are afforded legal protection by the government of Belka. I vote that we... change this situation."

>And what will you do to the Darcsens then?
>Why are the Darcsens such a problem for you?
>Let them keep talking for now.

>>
>>25086454

Er, "Have Williams introduce you" won 5 to 3 in votes.

Did Erik just decide to Trombe his way through what the voters wanted anyway? Because it was more like him and/or funnier?
>>
>>25086454

"The Darcsens also make up a useful and valuable contribution to the war effort. They mine and refine Ragnite. They build our warships and tanks, smith our weapons and repair our technology. They work in our factories, producing armaments superior to those made by the Empire. With so many of our non-Darcsen population engaged in warfare abroad, if we got rid of our Darcsen now, Belka's production capacity would crumble, and the Empire is growing increasingly dependent on it as its own domestic industrial base is eroded. I'm sure you are all aware of this fact. I see no reason to change the situation for the worse for all involved."
>>
>>25086454
"I veto."
Arguing with these fools would be like playing chess with a brick wall.
>>
>>25086507
MC probably just started writing before the rest of the votes came in, but that's funnier so I'll chose to believe it.
>>

Oh wait, it was only 5 to 4 in "Have Williams introduce you", not 5 to 3. Even so.

Eh, does it matter much anyway, Merc Command?
>>
>>25086545

I can just see the scene now: Williams starts introducing Erik and he just walks past him, cape billowing, announcing his titles and victories loudly at no one in particular while the councillors wince.
>>
>>25086569

Heh. Yeah, about how I imagined it.

>Have Williams introduce you
>"Introducing Sir-"
>"Erik schnee, the Phoenix Knight!"

I'm too tired and too crap at politics to tell which of

>Why are the Darcsens such a problem for you?

is the paragon choice, so my vote is for whatever that one is
>>
I prefer something like >>25086511 because, even though Erik hasn't cared much about politics, being an EWI veteran he wouldn't be completely clueless about the Empire's stance on the Darcsen issue.
>>
>>25086614

Wish I could tell the difference in tone too.

>>25086511

I like this though. If it's true/accurate in the setting, it might be a good point to make.
>>
>>25086511
I like this one. Give this spiel, tell them that we veto whatever bullshit they're trying to pull, and tell them to move on.

We might not be politically savvy, but we're a knight, we understand the importance of logistics, maintenance, and weaponry.
>>
Hmm, but before we interrupt just to give a speech, maybe we should ask Williams when WOULD be a good TIME to make our speech?

Otherwise they might just get annoyed and ignore us, pissing Erik off again.
>>
>>25086556
Eh, it's not that critical.

>>25086454
"I veto." You say simply.

The rest of the Council just stares at you blankly. King Priam claps his hands and laughs.

"Sir Schnee, if you would just listen to our reasons-" Geffen says as he tries to salvage his speech.

"I veto. End of story." You cut him off.

"And may I know why you are so adamant against this?" Geffen seethes.

"Because I believe in a Belka that respects its LAWS and HONOR. Where the people can trust that their leaders will protect them and vice versa. I believe we are decent enough people to rule this land without having to trod on others." You say.

"Starry eyed idealism, something expected of of Karla's pet dog." Geffen snorts. "That adherence to her principles will be the end of her, some day. Mark my words."

He then strides up to you and lowers his voice so that the King can't hear.

"Go run back home and tell that idealistic whore that this isn't over."

Your hand clenches into a fist.

"Um.... sir?" Williams stammers.

Your punch is so quick that Geffen at first doesn't even realize it. He staggers backwards, absolutely perplexed at how his face feels smashed in and why his nose was bleed profusely.

"YOU WOULD DARE CALL THE PRINCESS A WHORE!?" You roar with righteous fury. "This man has insulted the honor of Princess Karla Hohenzollern in my presence! He has called her a whore and as her knight I have sworn an oath to defend her honor!"

Then. you physically pick him up and drop him on the nearest desk you kind find, sending wood splinters flying everywhere. Behind you, you notice Williams facepalming and apologizing to Karla over and over for failing her.

Unfortunately, since the chamber had no windows, you really couldn't throw Geffen out of one, so you had to make do. You stand Geffen back up, and strike him in the face as hard as you can. The blow sends Geffen tumbling over his chair and leaves him sprawled across the table. The other Councilmen are too shocked to be able to do anything, and are left frozen in their seats in fear.

King Priam, meanwhile, claps and laughs. "Oh, this performance is quite excellent! Encore! Encore!"

You suspect you now know why Karla is afraid of leaving her father alone in these meetings.

"You know..." Williams says meekly. "Technically if somebody sullies the name of your lord, you have to challenge them to a duel before physically assaulting them."

"Dueling is a form of respect, Williams, and this man deserved none. Remember that." You say coldly. "But... just to be polite..."

You walk over to Geffen's body, pull him back up, and say, "You do not insult the Princess of Belka in her palace without consequence, dog. By the ancient traditions of the Round Table, I challenge you to a duel!"

Geffen's only answer is a bit of drool and blood dripping from his mouth.

"It seems my opponent has forfeited his right to duel." You say, glaring at the rest of the Council.

The Councilmen can only nod rapidly in agreement with you.

"Good. Now, if there are no more matters to discuss, this meeting is adjourned. Milord." You bow to King Priam before marching out of the meeting chamber.

"The Princess is going to kill me..." Williams sighs.

"I'll take responsibility for it." You assure the young squire. "Though knowing her, she'll probably find it insanely funny."

Sure enough, Karla DID find the whole affair insanely funny. She also completely demolished you in a punitive duel, though to be fair you let her win that one.

"So, what did you think of Williams?" Karla asks as she pulls you up from the floor, still smiling from how your graphic description of Geffen's unfortunate accidental fall.

>Take in Williams

"When I swore the oath of knighthood, I promised not only to protect the Princess and the Belkan people, but also to shoulder her burdens in the field of battle. The Princess cannot fight alone, she cannot be expected to inspire the prople by herself. Me and my fellow knights have been happy to share this burden in the war effort, on distant battlefields, seeking glory and fame."

"But now I see that all this time as we have been fighting, we have neglected to take on our responsibilities on the home front. There are battles to be won here too, dreary battles in the Council chamber, with these damnable Imperial bureaucrats that would see us turned into a puppet of their throne. I have sworn a vow to the Princess and I will uphold it. I will fight by her side, to keep Belka safe from enemies foreign and domestic. But today, I was sorely unprepared."

"Williams! You seem like you've been in the loop for a while, so I am requisitioning you as temporary squire. I need you to go down to the main library and fetch me texts on Belkan and Imperial law, as well as every treaty and agreement signed between our countries. A knight cannot risk his life needlessly fighting on unfamiliar ground. If you provide good intel and advise me on political matters, I will take you on as my squire permanently. Learn the sigil and words of my house. They may come in handy for you later on."

"I take the training of my squires seriously, Milady. There is no need to worry."

"It will be done." You bow. "And where will you be?"

"There is business in the Empire I must attend to." Karla says. "Be careful out there, Erk."

"Of course, Milady." You say, wondering why Karla is being so secretive all of a sudden. So secretive she wouldn't even trust telling her personal guard. Well, that would be a problem for another day.

Jaeger has a lot more control over his hot-blood. He tends to stay calm and professional until he needs to yell at things or get into a fistfight with a knight.

I think Karla prefers Jaeger's more controlled and refined hot-blood over Erik's constantly boiling blood that is always ready to explode.

pretty much this, she could have had standing orders to capture everyone and her troops killed them all, we dont know

>>
>>25087441
>>25087452
I've been personally going a forgiveness over romance route. That's just the kind of thing that never really gets completely buried.

Also, I think people are trying way too hard to paint her in a sympathetic light every time the attack gets brought up. It's very wishful thinking.
>>
>>25087480
I do not habor a needless hate, but I feel romance is out of the question in light of such a thing. Jager may still care but I don't think that bridge is going to be entirely rebuilt.

that the thing, we know nothing about it, and we will know nothing about it until we talk to her, we've caught glimpses of regret and longer from Karla while playing as Erik, and now she is doing secret stuff secretly, towards what? we have no idea, and at this point guessing is pointless

that said, I always like a happy ending, and I'm hoping things go well for J&K
>>
>>25087535

Tbh, this is what I think when people start talking about Jager getting back with Karla.
http://youtu.be/JpQNw46Sl24
>>
>>25087546
It'd be one thing for your significant other on the oposing side to be a mere soldier forced to follow orders. It's entirely different to lead a force that burns your family house down if not worse.

I have no issue with helping her free herself from her country's position or looking out for her. I doubt it's much more than that will happen as the whole thing likely created an rift that prevents any romance. I doubt either of them could just forget about that event.
>>
>>25087546
It's more the whole "we're going to conquer the Empire, become the new Emperor, and ride on our throne tank with a naked Karla in our lap" part that I find ridiculous, the romantic situation is just making it even more hard to take seriously. Though I do feel this situation is a little bit more grim than the VC canon ones.

>>25087539
I personally don't see how them not getting back together invalidates the possibility of a happy ending. It's just the most most obvious route to take.

I don't know, I won't be upset if it happens, but it would really stretch my suspension of disbelief. It feels more like It'll be because anon wanted too more than any kind of logical progression, if you ask me.
>>
>>25087594
>I doubt either of them could just forget about that event.
oh i don't doubt that, it will always be something between them, but i do hope that their romance is salvageable, they seem like the kind of characters that could fix things, although it will most likely take along time

and then there's the plan to conquer the empire using Karla, which will most likely involve a political marriage with Jager so he can rule the world while belka gets its independence
>>
>>25087617

I'm pretty sure we said that part about Karla and the Empire just to mess with Elizabeth.
>>
>>25087652
Except people talk about it all the god damn time, even before Elizabeth even asked us about it. Just look at this post: >>25087624
>>
>>25087617
>It feels more like It'll be because anon wanted too more than any kind of logical progression, if you ask me.
well this is /tg/ and it is a quest

and while the whole
>"we're going to conquer the Empire, become the new Emperor, and ride on our throne tank with a naked Karla in our lap"

is exaggerated, i reckon we can still pull it off, while not being ridiculous
>>
>>25087617
>"we're going to conquer the Empire, become the new Emperor, and ride on our throne tank with a naked Karla in our lap"

I find this plan exceptionally absurd as Jager up to this point was not a man of particularly great ambition. I doubt he'd want such a thing to run.

As far as the happy ending matter, I can imagine that in a likely cause the two find happiness with other people

>>25087624
I don't think they could exactly overlook it.... nor do I think such things should be able to be overlooked

>>25087669
I don't think such a disregard for logical progression would be allowed.
>>
>>25087652
oh no, we were totally serious when we came up with it, and when we told liz, we knew it would be taken as a joke, which makes it all the better when we bring our plans to fruition

its kind of like a super villains plans, but plausible within this setting if we do it right
>>
>>25087681

... I don't think most people are serious about that.

Some people might repeat the grand, supervillain-scale, plan for humor and emphasis, buuut... I kinda doubt we're actually really PLANNING towards something like that.

Hell, I'm not entirely sure that Jaeger doesn't want to HURT Karla as bad as she did him!

Really, I think revenge is a strong motivation and emotion here.
>>
>>25087677
>I can imagine that in a likely cause the two find happiness with other people

I doubt it, there was so much between them, and they both think about it pretty damn often, hell, I think Karla is secretly acting towards them getting together again, and Jager still has a lot of conflicted feelings about it, as well as question to ask when he confronts her.

To me, it seems plausible that they could get back together.
>>

>Really, I think revenge is a strong motivation and emotion here.

I don't think that would fit Jagers character very well, I mean, it totally works for him to use revenge as motivation and to drive him towards a confrontation between the two, but I think he's too much of a kind hearted soul to go through with it.

>I'm expecting the flames of vengeance to eventually die down
so am i, it fits his char really well at the start, but when the journey is nearing its end, i think many a thing will change

I feel his feelings are mixed between the anger and his affection. Thus while he wouldn't carry out any vengeance, I doubt he'd be able to forget about it either.

You mean the things with its heroes choosing non ambitious post war fates for the most part? Among the heroes of the games, ambition isn't likely to be found and this likely extends to the demons.

Oh no, I could totally see some of the Demon's settling down well

I meant that there is very little evidence displayed that anyone on the entire planet in the VC setting understands what logical progression could possibly mean

I'm more for a subtle kind of redemption. Say, we get Erik to slowly realize how the Empire is screwing Belka over and how the Princess is suffering under its demands. Then, his instinct to take action and take the fight to the enemy will drive him to do what he believes is right.

And then, as Jaeger, we recieve a request to assist the Belkan Liberation Army in its struggle against the Empire and its lapdogs. I think it would be a very nice scene to get the final battle with Karla in the ruins of HER home. Regardless of how that battle will go.
