The place, Aprior, the city Imperius, capitol of the Aprior Sector.

You are a veteran sergeant of the Knights Inductor space marine chapter, who stand as stewards and guardian over the sector.

You have been summoned to the Knight command center here in the city on unknown grounds, the man on the vox was very vague, and you are currently walking there along the sidewalk through the bustling city, with more than enough time to reach your destination.

You are currently wearing your off duty fatigues and are not armed.

Your actions?
>>
>>25078256
Grab the closest woman and arrest her for being overly lewd.
>>
>>25078256
Check the local news?
>>
>>25078256

Well dress to kill. We're being summoned to high command, right? Slap on some uniform and hurry off. Don't keep the chaptermaster, or whatever our superior is called, waiting.
>>
>>25078352
Walking by a public vid terminal, you look over to see a newscast from a local station, fairly popular on this continent.

The main story being covered is a protest elsewhere in the city, seemingly revolving around a former Tau national being elected to a management position in the local government.

The city police are standing by, but it appears that the protest is remaining civil, though passionate on all sides.
>>
>>25078411
seconded
>>
>>25078446
Tau?
TAU being in this city?
PURGE THEM ALL.
>>
>>25078446
You also hear mention of a smaller story, concerning the Aprior Sector rejoining the Imperium at large, although it is mostly speculation and debate about what exactly this means for the future of the sector.

After this the station switches over to a live broadcast of a Squig-Ball match, and the news stops.

Contemplate on reasonable conduct of our citizenry. Give credit to our reasonable public education service.

Keep calm and keep walking.
>>
>>25078456
>>25078411
Apologies, you are already in the necessary uniform, and were on your way there, you have enough time if you wanted to deal with anything on the way, or investigate anything, but you are prepared for your meeting, whatever that meeting turns out to be.
>>
>>25078509
Nah, lets get to the meeting. Unless the we know one of those NCO's who knows everything, in which case we should contact him for an informal briefing.
>>
>>25078509

Ah, I misread. Very well then. Let's not dillydally, though. We're not a murderhobo that has time to plunder vacant NPC homes and fulfill 5 sidequests before carrying out his main objective - we're a responsible officer!
>>
>>25078503
You continue walking through the city, you are currently in the entertainment district, given mostly over to shops, restaurants and theaters, with the buildings broken up every so often by a park by design.
>>
>>25078557
Hit a strip club to help us think. It is the most reasonable course of action.
>>
>>25078557
>>25078553
The shops around you carry goods from across the planet and beyond, on your way you pass a store specializing in Tau imports, mostly clothes, art, and a few other cultural artifacts.

Ahead of you the Capitol building pierces the sky, a shimmering spire of steel and glass, you walk towards it, leaving the bustling city behind you.

Also, you need a name.
>>
>>25078594
Frank Smith.

Alpharious.
>>
>>25078632
Omegon.
>>
>>25078618

Sounds reasonable enough. I support this.
>>
>>25078594
Numeon, 1st company captain of the salamanders pre heresy, and commander of Vulkan's personal guard. Given the history between the two chapters, it's probably a fairly common name.
>>
>>25078674
Interesting and fluffy name. I'll take it.

After you enter the building, the attendant behind the desk looks up in surprise, but quickly suppresses it.

After you tell her your business, she directs you to the correct elevator, and you head of to your destination.

>Numeon Smith

concurrence players? I think it fits fairly well.
>>
>>25078732
I preferred Alpharius.

Alpharius Numeon.

Sure, why not.
>>
>>25078732
I find it okay.
>>
>>25078761
Don't you mean Nomegon?
>>
To your momentary surprise, the elevator goes down not up, and it seems to go down quite a ways, given the fast speed of movement and the time it takes, when the door opens you are greeted with what seems to be a fortified bunker complex, the tiled floors and potted plants doing little to distract from the study construction of the bunker.

Around you numerous functionaries hustle and bustle, carrying papers and personal cogitators off to parts unknown.

None of them seem surprised at your presence, it seems they get enough Knights down here to not be surprised anymore.

Speaking of which, a marine in full armor is standing across the commons from you, and waves you over.
>>
>>25078801
go over and say hi
>>
>>25078632
thank you captain obvious, but what's our individual name?
>>
>>25078850
As you approach, you notice the black trim on this Knight's armor. That, combined with the sudden pressure behind your eyes, allows you to recognize him for what he is, one of the Brothers of Silence, a blank.

"Are you Seargent Numeon Alpharius Smith?"

He asks in a deep, measured voice.
>>
>>25078882
"No, I'm a sergeant, not a seargent."

"Excellent, you have been requested by the Chapter Master, follow me."

Without another word he turns and walks off into the depths of the facility.

After a while, the functionaries disappear, and the office plants are replaced with bare rockcrete and steel doors.

you pass through a checkpoint, and your identities are confirmed, then you pass through another, and finally a third, this one operated by fully armored marines rather than Aprior PDF.

Finally you view your destination, dark wood double doors bearing the Chapter crest of the Knights Inductor.

Your escort opens to door and motions you in.
>>
>>25079103
Walk in.

piece of advise, you'll probably get more responses if you don't end with blatantly obvious choices like these ones.

yes, brother alpharius, yes i am. how goes your end of the infiltration into the chapter

>>
Inside, you see a comfortably appointed office, a soft carpet on the floor, a painting of a woodland scene on the wall, the scent of cigar smoke hangs lightly in the air.

Behind the hardwood desk, under the Imperial Aquila, and just beside a carefully painted model of an Avenger gunship, sits Chapter Master Zakis Randi, wearing a simple uniform with the Knights Inductor insignia on a unit patch on his shoulder.

looking up from the report he was reading, he smiles wearily and motions you to sit down in the Marine sized chair opposite him, as your escort stands respectfully by the door.

"Sargent Smith, thank you for coming, I suppose you are wondering why I've summoned you here."
>>
>>25079221
Yes, Yes I am sir.
>>
"Here's the long and short of it, put simply, our chapter, and this entire sector, face a potential crisis. Put simply, The rest of the Imperium has finally decided to remember that we exist, they already sent an Inquisitor here to judge us, but it seems that we have won her over and earned a stay of execution."

He frowns slightly.

"Make no mistake, the Inquisition does not approve of our ways, but they have decided to wait and watch, the Munitorum on the other hand, demands action with its usual bureaucratic determination."

"They have called upon the Aprior sector to send out a force to join the Imperial Guard"
>>
>>25079221
Actually I was wondering what the price of a new pair of shoes would be. My current pair have seen better days and need to be replaced.

But while I'm here, yes I have a slight interest in why I'm being told to come underground to this bunker of unidentified purpose and size

Isn't everything technically a chapter holding and thus immune from the tithe Sir?
>>
>>25079363
"Unfortunately not"

He sighs, dropping his dataslate on the table.

"Remember, we may stand watch over the Aprior Sector and recruit from here, but we do not rule it, the unit will be formed. But where others in this sector see a cause for panic, I see an opportunity. A chance to give the Munitorum what they want, and prove wrong every Inquisitor who doubts our way of life."
>>
>>25079424
understood
>>
>>25079424
"We are forming a fighting force unlike any other that the Imperium has ever seen, a unified force of Aprior Guardsmen, those allies who have joined in our culture, and the Knights themselves, a Joint Task Force of all races and creeds living in the Aprior Sector."

He picks up his slate again.

"On paper, this will be listed as an over strength guard regiment, in reality something much more. But I can still see that you are wondering how you fit into this."

He places a small hardwood box on the table, and pushes it over.

Opening it, you see a pair of rank pins, denoting a Captains rank.

"You are going to lead the Aprior JTF, congratulations on your first major command Captain Smith."

In the background, you vaguely hear the Silencer snapping a salute as you look at the shining silver pins.
>>
>>25079363
>>25079424
There's also the matter that claiming the entire Sector would instantly earn the enmity of the High Lords -- they're not fond of planets trying to rules-lawyer their way out of their responsibilities. We're lucky they haven't demanded a millennium's worth of tithes from our time in isolation.
>>
>>25079520
A quick tour of the Aprior Sector Legislative Assembly revealed that the governments of the Aprior Sector followed the same general pattern: a few elected bodies and officials who squabbled and bickered and, somehow, made policy, like most Imperial representative governments – hardly surprising, as the Knights Inductor had played an instrumental role in establishing many of those governments, too. Legally speaking, the Knights ruled every world in the Aprior Sector, as they ruled the Aprior System, and it was their fleets which had settled every other world in the Sector, but in practice, they limited their rule to the Aprior System proper. As the Sector had been settled in a time when the Warp in the region was especially turbulent, the Knights had decreed, as part of the Aprior Sector Charter, that all star systems should be able to survive on their own, and advising that every world be as self-sufficient as possible. This extended to the Sector's governments: generally, each system looked after itself, and while the Legislative Assembly was the ruling body of the Sector on paper, was little more than a military and trade alliance, and a cursory glance through their records had turned up nothing out of the ordinary – a fuller investigation would come later, but they didn't seem to be trying to hide anything.

To find the major deviations from Imperial norms, Rightina would have to investigate the organizations which held the real inter-system power: the Adeptus Mechanicus, Internal Security, and the Knights Inductor themselves.
>>
>>25079504

just a sec, 4chan ate my post again.
>>
>>25079504

"This is for you."

He hands you the slate he was using.

"It contains dossiers on the various assets you can choose to add to the JTF alongside the standard guardsmen and Knight forces, make your choices and prepare to head out, the Munitorum waits for no man, not even a marine.

If you have any other questions ask them now, if not then brother Severus will show you to an office where you can review your information and make your choices."
>>

No further questions.
>>
>>25079535
what is this for? I love that story too, but dont clog up the thread please.
>>
>>25079578
Are my objectives to try and harmonise with existing imperial forces and introduce them to our ideas or is it an effort of secrecy in what our sector does differently to the imperium at large?
>>
>>25079592
>Legally speaking, the Knights ruled every world in the Aprior Sector, as they ruled the Aprior System, and it was their fleets which had settled every other world in the Sector, but in practice, they limited their rule to the Aprior System proper
>>
>>25079612
"The Imperium is vast and diverse, so I'll leave the decision of what to reveal to what world up to you, I trust that you will make the right judgement. But never forget that the eyes of the inquisition will be upon you, prove that the JTF can get the job done as well as any 'pure' force they care to throw into the grinder, and they'll get off this sectors back."
>>
>>25079535
I'm aware that the Knights are listed as the owners of every planet in the sector; I mean that trying to claim that they are all Chapter recruitment worlds *with the intention of exempting them from the tithe* would be...counter-productive.

Between the Tyranids and the Dark Eldar, our current forces have enough to deal with without me resigning away their leader.

Besides, this is a new kind of fighting force, it needs a new leader, one free from old patterns of thinking which might bog things down.

I have absolute confidence in you, I wouldnt have picked you otherwise."
>>

Thank you sir.
Time for troop selection.
>>
>>25079862
You exchange salutes and leave the room, brother Severus leading you to an unused office, here he leaves you after a final salute, and you look over your slate.

The Chapter Master wasn't kidding, in addition to the standard deployment of guardsmen and Knights, it seems like the Aprior JTF could include everything from Orks to Eldar to Genestealers, and, you have to reread this a few times, a daemon?

It would seem that the choice is entirely yours to make.
>>
>>25079924
can we get a list of choices and how many we can take for each slot?
>>
>>25079924
same as last thread right?
Spec ops: Eldar, ASIS task force
Heavy vehicle: Fenris, Rocket Artillery
Air support: Valkyrie avenger, Shrike
Infantry support: SOB, battlesuit team
Special units: Confessor, Tau commander
>>
>>25079924
How about we start things nice and vanilla -- humans, and aliens who could plausibly fight alongside humans (Tau and Eldar). Do we have any information about where we're being shipped to, or what we'll be fighting there? If we're going against Orks, maybe we could bring along some Orks who will disrupt enemy operations.
>>
>>25079953
Swap out the SOB for the stealth termites and we got a deal.
>>
>>25079924
agree on two (2) choices per unit slot.

New additions to the SpecOps unit type.

Aprior Sector Internal Security (ASIS) task force.

Led by a veteran ASIS operative, this small team is the leading edge of ASIS in the field, they bring their investigative and unorthodox combat knowledge to the front, team is composed of various humans and xenos, for clandestine operations.

Kroot pack

A team of kroot warriors brought with a group of Tau defectors, who decided to put down roots with the Aprior sector, and now hired onto the JTF. They are expert outdoors-men, decent marksmen, and brutal close combat fighters used to low profile skirmishes and rapid attacks.

But instead of sister grab stealth termies. We can always go for the heavy support if things go to pot, also some veterans to confer with would be helpful.

>>
>>25080680
Ah right, my bad. Ship now
>>
>>25080698
no problem.

You depart the capitol building and eventually the world itself, a swift shuttle ride taking you up through the busy skies of Regius and into the cold quiet of space.

A growing speck of light in the distance soon grows into a ship, which you recognize as an Aprior pattern troop ship, although it seems to have been modified for the task ahead. across its smooth prow is emblazoned "Midnight Flame"

You slide smoothly into a hangar bay and step out once it has finished pressurizing.

Stepping out, you examine the orderly but mostly empty landing bay, until the sound of boot soles ringing on the metal decking draw your eyes. A man in his mid 50s, wearing a naval uniform is walking towards you, as he draws near you notice his rank badges, the ships captain, flanked by an executive officer.

He comes to a halt and snaps a salute.

"Captain Smith I presume, welcome aboard the Midnight Flame, I am Captain Darvis, this is commander Carter, my first officer. How may we assist you sir?"
>>
>>25080789
"Well, Lets get our troops settled in, then we can begin planning. Lets make sure we have all perspectives at our meeting."
>>
>>25080853
"Right sir, the units you requested should be along in a few days, but in the meantime we can get you settled in and give you a tour of the ship."

The Captain and his Second in command take you on a tour of the ship, explaining the vessels capabilities.

"I'm sure you noticed that this is not an ordinary troopship, it has been specially modified to serve as the mobile base for the JTF, everything we'll need is here. The Flame is capable of launching and receiving our aircraft, providing for the dietary and medical needs of all members of the force regardless of race, and even contains a miniaturized Manufactoria, all packed up nice and neat in one of the troop ships, enough to make any of the spare parts we might need when operating far from home.

But this, is the best part."

The Captain escorts you into what seems to be a conference room, a large hardwood table with an inbuilt hololith sits at the center of the room, with numerous dormant pict screens around the walls, rows of benches ring the room, with a large marine-sized seat at the table for you.

"This room has been specially warded by the Silencers themselves sir, entirely impervious to any form of psychic surveillance, no need to worry about being spied on here."
>>
>>25080789
"See that their are no problems getting my men on board and call all the senior members to the planning chamber." (Presuming there USA chamber for military planning on this vessel) "Also send me an orderlies with all the details on this ship so that I may utilise this ship to its fullest extent"
>>
>>25080960
The plot fairy was right!!!
>>
>>25080960
"Good to know. Any idea where we will be first shipped out to?"
>>
>>25080960
Big grin
"I like it."
>>
>>25080960
after that you are shown to your quarters in the marine section of the ship, and settle in, the Captain and his officer returning to their duties.

Stowing your belongings, you settle in to deal with organizing the task force ahead of you.
