You frown at the foreman of the airship yard as he glares down at you, crossing his arms across his chest.
"Foreman. I own this place now. That means you will give me the full details of your operations, a full client list, your honest evaluation of the quality and size of this operation as compared to others, any rumblings of discontent you may have heard amongst the workers, and the names of all senior staff, starting with yourself."

He sighs.

"Fiesty little one, aren't you? Are you certain there isn't someone who's supposed to handle this sort of complicated business for you?"

The damn foreman still isn't taking you seriously. Even though you waved the deed to the entire building and adjacent airship yard under his nose not five minutes ago.

> How will you handle this?
> Intimidation- Scare the foreman into submission with threats, whether against him or his employment.
> Mindfuckery- Dominate or otherwise manipulate him and force him to take you seriously.
> Soft touch - Agree that maybe you shouldn't be running the place personally and send a servant to deal with the foreman in your stead.
> Appeal to emotion - Try and convince the foreman that you're harmless and giving you the information will get you out of his hair faster.
> Other?

You are Isabella Katarina Markova, twelfth of the line of Carmilla, thirteen generations from Dracula, the First. This places you with enough blood and power to make you a minor noble in Shadescast, the city of the vampires, and possess your own castle- which does not necessarily have sensible geometry, and which is not always in the same place. Though your physical appearance is that of a young girl, you are actually three and a half centuries old.

You spend your time responding to requests from other vampires for lore, and holding tea parties and other social events, both with humans and vampires. On occasion, you indulge in adding one or two of them to your collection of porcelain dolls…

Recently, you were attacked by a human vampire hunter who managed to temporarily kill you. Upon rising from death, you captured him and left him in the tender hands of your doll collection... but first he managed to majorly deface your castle and burn a portion of your library, including some hard-to-replace texts. Signs point to him having been hired by a rival vampire... and one who was here, and managed to take one of your dolls.

Currently, you are working to turn the mayor of Mark into your soft, gooey servant. The process will take one or two weeks more. You also intend to invest in the airship trade- a process speeded considerably when the chattel you acquired to raise money were vastly overvalued by a vampiric noble by the name of Blackford. As a result, you own his airship yards in Mark, and now only need to exert your control over it in person… which is why you're here today.

Wait wait wait. Claimining ignorance in this would give us a buffer between worker discontent and us. Let's break down adorably and then consent to have an intermediary who will take care of dealings for us. Preferably somebody ugly and unlikeable.

>Claimining ignorance in this would give us a buffer between worker discontent and us.

Are we going to keep the bad conditions and maximize the profit or will we try to improve things?
Going from previous threads, I don't think anyone will care about their well-being but usually /tg/ tends to go "benevolent" route when playing evil characters. I'd like to improve the working conditions but that is just my inner moralfag speaking.

Anyway, I think your suggestion is better than mindfuckery, we shouldn't resort to that before we exhaust other options.

It is not necessarily not evil to improve working conditions. It is on the other hand a clever thing to do to make sure things work out for us in the long run. And vampires are all about making things work in the long run.

It reasonable though. Okay you have filthy slaves who will do anything for you. Thats a profit. But making filthy slaves not be filthy slaves but some higher form of life will eventually give even greater profit. Thus making the lives of our filthy slaves better actually makes our life better as well.

Well if our characterization so far is any indicator we don't give two shits about the workers. That said wide scale labor revolts would be a problem and we should probably work to avoid them. Really depends on if we care more about the profits or the expanding influence the shipyards provide. Either way minimizing our publicity is probably wise at this point. The nail that sticks up and all that.....
>>
>>25053038
>>25053046

If we're going to try to make their working conditions better, then we shouldn't set up a buffer between them by letting someone else handle this. If we keep shit as it is, then yeah, sure lets distance ourself.

You beckon the foreman with one finger, and he leans down towards you, humoring you for the moment.

You whisper into his ear.

"You know what? I think you need to learn your place." Your voice drips with acid.

He gives you a nonplussed look.

"Go find your father, little girl."

"I don't have one."

"Neither did I. Suck it up."

You growl under your breath, and then whisper directly into his ear.

"If you keep speaking to me in that way, do you know what will happen to you?"

The foreman shrugs, clearly not caring.

Leaning close, you scream at the top of your lungs directly into his ear:

"YOU WILL BE FUCKING FIRED, YOU INCOMPTENT MORON EXCUSE FOR A FOREMAN! I HAVE NEVER SEEN A LESS INTELLIGENT, LESS RESPECTFUL, LESS AMUSING SERVANT EVER IN MY LIFE! YOU WILL RESPECT ME, OR I WILL FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL, IS THAT CLEAR?"

The concentrated blast of vocalized hatred, distilled from three hundred years of working with incompetent minions and idiots who don't take your childlike form seriously, catches the foreman off guard and he stumbles backwards, clutching at his ear. You follow him, not giving him a chance to recover.

"STAFF! BLUEPRINTS! CLIENTS! TEA! NOW! OR YOU WILL BE OUT ON THE STREET AND I'LL GIVE YOUR JOB TO MY PET CAT! IT WILL DO A BETTER JOB THAN YOU ARE!"

Stumbling away, the foreman merely nods vigorously.

"DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!"

He nods some more.

"SAY YOU UNDERSTAND!"

"I- I understand!"

"SAY MY NAME, YOU MORON!"

"I understand, uh, uh, boss!"

"GOOD ENOUGH! NOW, TEA! BLUEPRINTS! STAFF! GO!"

The foreman hurries away out of shouting range as you gradually recover your composure.

The assembled airwrights are staring at you with rather alarmed expressions on their faces. You have an urge to just rip their faces off for staring at you…

Roll Masquerade + Discipline to recover from your little outburst.

Despite your darker urges running closer to the surface than normal, you manage to clamp down on them; though you can't stop wanting to kill them to stop them staring at you, you do manage to remember that this sort of plan usually ends with everyone in the world dead so that there are no witnesses.

You settle for yelling at the assembled shipwrights, crossing your arms across your chest to prevent yourself from thinking about carving out their chests.

"WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT? GET BACK TO WORK!"

The screaming seems cathartic. The shipwrights promptly duck their heads back to their work, lest they attract the wrath of the screaming little girl who apparently owns the whole building. Fortunately for them, the foreman has returned, bearing a cup of tea in one slightly-jittery hand and a mass of blueprints and files in the other.

"Clients."

The disheveled foreman passes you the tea… Which you refuse, forcing him to awkwardly set it down on a nearby desk. Rummaging in the mass of documents, he passes you a small piece of paper with the current clients on it.

It would appear that the full capacity of the shipyard is being used at the moment; the five ships outside are apparently the extent of business at the moment.

> Continued
>>
>>25054247

The pair of fighting craft are both Sword-class frigates. They have a forward carronade that shreds enemy canvas with dozens of flechettes, and a pair of flamethrowers that spit burning oil to cause fires aboard enemy craft; both appear to have been commissioned by a privateering group under the command of a Commodore Shizu. Though Privateer's Writs are handed down by the crown, any well-off noble can acquire one, so while this is lucrative, it's not a real military contract, alas. The schedule puts their completion a month from now.

The larger ship that fills most of the airdock is a Galleon-class trading ship. Massive, slow, and unarmed, these large ships are usually protected by escorts. This one appears to have been commissioned by a local trading consortium to bear their wares south and west. It'll be done in about three weeks.

The smallest ship is a Shard-class runner; a devil to control due to an unusual placement of helm, but in the hands of a skilled pilot the fastest and most nimble thing in all the sky. A specialty craft, it is actually built from the gas-bag down for the lightest possible construction; a Shard runner will never touch the ground during its entire career. The one outside is nearly complete; the Foreman says it'll be done in another two days. This one was commissioned by Earl Blackford personally, and he'll likely want to inspect it in person before buying.

The final one has no formal class; apparently it's a pleasure craft, what the workers disparagingly refer to as a "junker." About the only thing that's remarkable about it is that it's quite sturdy, so that if the noble sets it down a bit hard it won't care. The record sheets say it'll be done in a week for delivery to a Lord Harnshama.

You nod, satisfied with the records, and hand them back to the foreman.

Interceptors? Interesting. If things ever go completely tits up with the whole politics gig I suggest we have a fleet of these ready so we can transition smoothly into VAMPIRE SKY PIRACY QUEST.

>Earl Blackford

who's this guy? Can we use this opportunity to get more connections?
>>
>>25054374
He's the fellow we conned into selling us the shipyard in exchange for our slaves.
>>
>>25054287
Seconded

>>25054374
He's the vampire we got the yard from
>>
>>25054343
Hey, Dracula did it. Only on the ocean and with less piracy.

>>25054374
The vampire we bought the shipyard from.
>>
>>25054385
Oh, right.

We didn't con him, we just made a good deal. Don't remember anyone suggestion to con him outright.
>>
>>25054260
Costs. How much does it cost to build an airship and how much are we charging?

I'm thinking we commission and build our own small trade fleet, funded with slave-gold.

Also, this question isn't really directed at the foreman, but who is Japchingland at war/hostile with? Who do those privateer contracts license you to hunt?
>>
>>25054260
Let's take a look at the books. We need to know how profitable the shipyard is before we start diverting resources to build ourselves an airship.
>>
>>25054403
A very, very good deal. Blackford basically lost his shirt, but everything was above-board.
>>
>>25054343
Secondeding. Let's look at the profits next
>>
>>25054260
Those are some broad timetables. We should look at worker efficiency, safety and protocol, see if we're losing steam somewhere in the process.
>>
>>25054395
Hey, just wanted to say thanks for an awesome story. Its really well thought out and well written.
Its certainly my favorite adventure I've ever seen on /tg/
>>
>>25054428
Alucard, why did we introduce ourself as Isabella Blackford when we got here?

Why are we pretending to be his relative, is there some reason we can't admit to owning the deeds ourselves?
>>
>>25054480
Did we? I don't remember giving the foreman our name.
>>
>>25054428
I just hope it doesn't come back to bite us. I don't think anyone wanted to rip-off a more powerful vampire.
>>
>>25054275
>epic level mass hypnosis powers?
>"Who cares, it's been there forever.... Oh fuck, why is it bombing us? It's never done anything like that before!"

The ultimate weapon that everyone just overlooks.
>>
>>25054515
If I recall, he was worried about worker unrest in the shipyard and was glad to trade it for our slaves.
>>
>>25054564
Considering other shipyards are considering unions and shit, he probably didn't wanna deal with that.
>>
>>25054514
Yes, in the last thread when we first got to the office.

I just read it and got caught up here so I couldn't ask earlier.
>>
>>25054514
Aye, we did. I assumed it was a typo
>>
>>25054616
Wait, what?
Uh.
Yeah that'd be a mistake.

Our surname is Markova.
>>
>>25054411
>>25054443
Profits then.

>>25054469
Aw, thanks.
>>
I don't think we need an airship at this moment.
>>
>>25054736
"Books."
The foreman hands over the accounting ledgers, which you quickly peruse. It would appear that the shipyard is making a decent profit- not by any means hand-over-fist, but hardly floundering. It's enough that your salary as executive officer will neatly finance a few small acquisitions over the coming weeks.

> Currently the airship yard is passively generating 2 Holdings per week.
> What next?
>>
>>25054775
The sooner, the better. But yeah, I think we lack the funds to really start building one. We should wait a few days for this to get us rich, then we make some.
>>
>>25054801
A few days for a company to make you rich? You're not Apple or the Hudson's Bay Company, my friend.
>>
>>25054789
Dang, OP, you take long for such a small and relatively unimportant update.

I think we should look into our finances/balance/whatever much deeper. I'm pretty sure the previous owner simply handed everything over to somebody else, in such situations it is not unheard of supervisors stealing money by cooking up the books.
>>
>>25054840
I was distracted, sorry. I do have a life upon occasion.
>>
>>25054838
Well, not rich. I meant, a few days for us to get enough money to justify mking one.
>>
>>25054789
I'd like to know the costs of building the airships.

If we could fund the construction of our own little trade fleet with some slave-gold, we could pull in some serious wealth.

Also, sitting at the head of an international trade company is a great way to gain power and influence.
>>
>>25054840
Its fine. We'll get our accountomancer to look them over at a later time. Inform them that we'll have our own accountant double check soon.
>>
>>25054862
well, okay

>>25054887
Seems good idea but I'm pretty sure slavery is not legal around these parts and we wouldn't want to ruin our reputation by using these assets here to do it.
Better to keep doing it like we did before.

Also, Isn't this the same city as the mayor which we're trying to gain control over? We need to be patient for 2 weeks and then use him to get advantages.
>>
>>25054789
Lets have a look at the HR reports, hopefully accomppanied with salary statements etc
>>
>>25054900
We'll have that accounting firm we hired look at them.
We aren't trusting the books to him yet.

Also, we really need to mindrape him to learn that magic. It's useful as fuck.
Even if we do train him to serve us, he's only a mortal, he'll be gone in a few short years at best. This magic could serve us well for eternity.
>>
>>25054887
You recall the prices listed in the client ledger.
Small merchant ships and frigates cost about as much as a decent house. (5 Holdings)
Large ships and specialist ships can cost as much as a decently sized estate or small business in and of themselves.
(10 Holdings)
Of course, these are only for ships that blueprints already exist for. Unique ships may cost tens of times more if special techniques are developed for their construction.
>>
>>25054995
We currently have 18 Holdings available, 4 of which only exist due to sorcery and which will require passing off as legitimate.
>>
>>25054995
That's well within our budget if we save a bit. Let's begin planning immediately to purchase a small merchant fleet with a small armed escort.
>>
>>25054933
>I'm pretty sure slavery is not legal around these parts

Not an issue.
>Kidnap hobos from Eyesocket.
>Sell in Shadescast.
>Keep leftovers for hoboflesh projects.
>Use gold to fund trade fleet in Mark.
>>
>>25055031
Of course, the airship yard has limited capacity; it can only build a total of six small airships or three large airships at once (Large airships count as two small ones.)

This means the air yard is currently full, and will be for another two days unless you want to default on a contract.
>>
>>25055031
But what are you trading with that fleet? And don't say slaves, we have a reputation here.
Or do you just want a to make general trade company and leave the specifics to a subordinate? Which also works.

>>25055064
Ah, okay. That works. Though I'd like it if that profit wasn't so dependent on the dice rolls, we got a good deal before just due a roll, what insurance do we have that the next one wont be exact opposite?
>>
>>25055097
No, of course not. We're a fucking vampire. We know patience.
>>
>>25055031
I like it.

First, hold off on any big projects in Mark of 3-4 weeks when the Mayor is our BFF.
Any projects we make here can only benefit with support from him.

Spend our time for the next few weeks rounding up some hobo-slaves.
This will let us build up our funds and let us work on our hoboflesh projects.
>>
>>25055097
Two fucking days?! Well fuck all I waited over three centuries for this but two more days is bullshit.

Yea. I think we'll deal. Besides we need to make some more money before we can drop it on a whole fleet. We can trade in whatever is being traded. Up down or sideways, the market always holds promise. Let's ask Mr. foreman what gets traded on the docks.
>>
>>25055168

After this inspection, I think we should do a small time-skip. A week or so.
>>
>>25055031
We'd need more contacts to actually start the trading part of this. And I don't think any merchant would actually want to rent a fleet. What we could try is to expand by either bying other yards or by improving and expanding the current one. Then we'd need to market ourselves to a merchant house or guild or even the crown to get bigger and better contracts. But that is all further down the line
>>
>>25055113
>general trade company
Yes. We will build legitimate business empire.
(and shadow evil-business empire)

>what insurance do we have of profitable dice rolls?

None. If we get a bad batch that doesn't sell well, we use them for hoboflesh project and try and sell the next batch. Simples.
>>
>>25055097
What does the Victorian empire thing think about slaves?
>>
>>25055265

IRL, hadn't they outlawed slavery by the time the Civil War started?
>>
>>25055237
We'll become both! We'll be the Wal Mart of the vampire world! YEAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

That also happens to have monster mooks. They got rid of those when they canned the 'greeter' position.
>>
>>25055265
Grand victoria feels that holding slaves in some barbarian colony is distasteful and unfashionable, and in the heart of Victoria itself it is unconsciousable and unthinkable.

Indentured servitude is popular, though.
>>
>>25055305
>Indentured servitude
So we could capture a bunch of hobos from Eyesocket, draft an indenture contract for them, give them new clothes and sell them as workers in Grand Victoria?
>>
>>25055219
>We'd need more contacts

I think it's time to look into our witch-napping project from earlier. That could help with this.

>Wait until the Mayor is conditioned to be our BFF.
>Use a little suggestion on angry workers in the pubs to start a drunken riot.
>Use riot to cause lots of public damage, including witch-burning site.
>Present ourselves as Noble patron of the city and offer to fund the repairs as a gift.
>Set up secret illusion charms and teleportation circle at new witch-burning site.
>People see and hear witches burn.
>Real witches are teleported to drop off point for us to collect.
>We apprentice/sell/use for flesh-beasts/whatever.

As a new young heiress, this sort of thing would be completely expected of us. Nobles donating public works or funding events to win favour is standard and it will net us good will and contacts.
>>
>>25055406
Yes, but you might well raise a few eyebrows by doing so.
>>
>>25055305
Look at >>25054464.
>>
>>25055413
I thought that project was retarded.
When we mentioned witches, the Mayor said that there haven't been incidents in years. All that investment and planning just to get shitty witches (after all, they got caught) at average one per year?
>>
>>25055468
Years? Nothing like that long. He said weeks when you last met.
>>
>>25055422
We are rather drifting a bit far from the current moment.

I'll do this shortly if nobody has anything else to do at the shipyard at the moment.
>>
>>25055498
Really? Well, I guess I'm wrong then. Maybe I misread.
Still, I think it is too much investment for little gain when we could just go around and kidnap them ourself.
>>
>>25055520
I thought that was what we pretty much agreed to do.
Yeah, lets do that.

Also, we might look into complaints and problems we might be having.
>>
>>25055521
But we would need to find them....
>>
>>25055468
He said there haven't been any witch reports in /weeks/.

Also, I fully expect most of the 'witches' to be no such thing. If we do get a few with potential every now and again, great. Even if we don't get any, the other benefits still make it a good idea.

The political good will and contacts this could give us will be useful.
The best contact, however, will be with the Witch-Hunters themselves.
If we can get our foot in the door with them, we could get our hands on all kinds of insider information.
>>
>>25055538
You note the turnaround time on your current projects, and ask the foreman about what might be slowing down production.

He says that the main issue is they don't have enough people or facilities for people. The night shifts are too spare, mostly as a result of only having the one bunkhouse nearby; and they don't have enough specialists, resulting in the specialists essentially completing one ship and then going on to the next, slowing all construction as parts of the ship built around their systems wait for the specialists to arrive.

You also remember overhearing that some of the workers had had an offer from another air yard in the area that didn't use store credit, and decided to take it. The Foreman might not know or might be hiding it, but for whatever reason he hasn't mentioned it… and since his workers are missing you'd bet it's the latter.
>>
>>25055633
> What do? Chastise the Foreman or continue asking about other things?
>>
>>25055521
Yeah, but then we'd have to hunt them down.

Operating in Grand-Victoria under the noses of the Inquisition and Witch-Hunters that are also hunting the same people and will ask questions when their prey starts vanishing.

They would, of course, try and follow the trail - the trail leading to /us/.

With this plan, they catch the witches for us. Everyone sees them burn. No one suspects they got away. No one asks questions. No one comes looking for them.

Also, we should use flesh-shaping to give them all new faces. (the ones we keep alive anyway)
We wouldn't want someone catching a glimpse of a witch they recognise and blow the whole thing.
>>
>>25055584
But there is a massive negative aspect you are overlooking. You want to pull wool over head of a magic-savvy organization by using magic illusions and teleporting. It will be a long on-going project and the truth behind it will be uncovered sooner or later.
>>
>>25055633
>>25055645
Chastise him a little. We have to encourage airyard loyalty, especially now under new management. Everyone gets tense and clammy when there's a new boss, so there may be more losses in the shortterm if more workers leave when they find out we're in charge now. This "company credit" system sounds a little iffy, so we might get rid of it in the near future.

I'd ask about our immediate competition, while we're on the topic of people leaving for other airfields.
>>
>>25055645
It might be best to hold off chastising until we're certain on what we're going to do to fix the problem. Sure he's cowed now but if we can fix the problem AND cow him, he'll be our bitch for life.

Or hate us. Either or
>>
>>25055633
Ask him about expanding living facilities and hiring more specialists. Also, tell him to stop paying in store credit from now on and give workers real pay. Improve the living facilities and the cafeteria (if we don't already, provide them with opportunities to buy quick snacks, cigarettes, etc) so that the workers are willing to spend money on them while they are here.
We will invest our money in these, of course.

>>25055645
Do not chastise but mention the thing about workers leaving, perhaps raise the salary by just a bit.
>>
>>25055633
One, cut that stupid store credit thing. It just pisses off the workers and damages productivity for no real gain.

Two, I would be happy to take a reduction in yard profits to give pay rises. The yard its self is just a means to a far greater end.
Our future trading company has for more potential for profit.

Three, fund the construction of an extension for the worker housing. Allow the night shift to operate at higher efficiency.

I think increasing the wages should attract new workers and some more specialists. That should fix itself.
>>
>>25055645
Do not chastise him for this, at least not much. Mention that we heard rumors of workers leaving due to conditions and company pay and how despite the profitability of using store credit it is not a truly viable system in a competitive environment.

Ask how much profit is gained from using the store credit and where it goes to.

Okay, we need three things, first, a better building for people to sleep, second, better pay/conditions to keep the specialists here, thirdly, it's really just part of second, but incentive to workers to live on site instead of commuting.

So transitioning out of the store credit system to an actual wage system, but provide incentive by way of a improved cafeteria, bunks, and cheaper alcohol for them to live on site and increase pay to be competitive.

Also whores, having whores available to the men would improve morale a fair bit. We can acquire whores pretty easily. The money from them can be funneled back to us making back the money we're spending to improve conditions.
>>
>>25055800
Expanding living facilities would cost you about 5 Holdings to purchase a building nearby, but would show an almost immediate uptick in productivity.
Hiring more specialists will probably also cost 5 Holdings once their fully loaded cost of offices etc is considered, and would also quickly increase productivity.

Removing the store credit will reduce our share of the profits by 1 Holdings per week, as workers start buying things that aren't from us. The foreman says it's an old policy and he's not sure why it's still on the books, other than the previous owner liking to line his pockets at his workers' expense.

Raising workers' salary will reduce the profitability of the company, of course. You can give the workers a pay raise if you're willing to lose 2 holdings per week from the yard.
>>
>>25055962
An initial holdings loss now will lead to bigger payoffs down the road, especially by ensuring worker loyalty. Kill the store credit program, and put in the order for expanded living facilities.

Going back to >>25055732, ask about our competition.
>>
>>25055900
Workers can get whores on their own dime. Hell, I'll bet a good number of them have their own wives and families to go home to.
>>
>>25055962
Let's see, I'd say spend 5 holding for the specialist and cut down the credit store, when we get some more holding from the venture buy the living facility. Unless we start getting more holding/week from it at this point we can't raise wage and abolish the credit store while still making a profit.
>>
>>25055962
>You can give the workers a pay raise if you're willing to lose 2 holdings per week from the yard.

But the yard only produces 2 holding a week.

I think you math might be a bit off. If the profit margin was that small this place would have collapsed long ago.
>>
With this foreman, he's skimming off the top definitely.

Dominate his ass, order him to tell us how much he's skimming, get him to forget that, then tell him he gets a pay raise of half his skimming and if he continues to skim we'll have him strung up by his neck.

Use the rest of his money he's skimming to pay the rest of the workers.

The best way to get good quality is terrorise and get honesty from the top down.
>>
>>25056047
If you're serious about investing in this, you can allow profit to go negative and pay in to cover the shipyard's losses.
>>
>>25055962
I'd hold off on wage raises right now. It's still a stage of major transition, so let's not overdo it.
>>
>>25056065
Wait, how do you know for sure the bossman's embezzling? What are your clues?

>rransIt accusative
Captcha wants to know, too.
>>
>>25056057
There are a lot of workers, and the place is only turning a modest profit currently.

Still, 2 might be excessive. 1 makes more sense.
>>
>>25056065
>The best way to get good quality is terrorise and get honesty from the top down.
But that leads to a hostile workplace, and no one wants that.
>>
>>25055962
Buy both holdings for 10
remove the store credit

We'll hold off raising the wages for now, we'll see how these changes will affect the profits.
>>
>>25056073
I'd rather we not start losing money off the bat, we can raise the wage once see a net increase in productivity/pay-off
>>
>>25056115
I think the current agreement is to kill the company credit program, effective immediately. It's a tossup between more workers and more specialists.
>>
>>25056143
>>25055962
I agree with this course of action.
>>
>>25056065
How about we don't jump to conclusions before we actually investigate this?
>>
>>25056143
Sounds good to me
>>
>>25056143
This.
>>
>>25055962
Okay, this place seems like it'd be a great place to launder our virtual holdings through due to the fact that we own it and control how the books are cooked if we so decide.

Use our Virtual holdings of 4, and another real holding to get the building for extra workers, and plan to remove the store credit bit.

>>25056065
We shouldn't be quite that hostile or blatant about it.

Now using some suggestion as we say "Is there anything you have failed to mention? Any corruption or skimming off the top that anyone is involved in? You can tell me, I'm your boss, I should know about this sort of thing." Or something like that ought to be fine.

>>25056045
If they have wives and families to go home to they're unlikely to use the bunks and so on, but the ones who are here probably do want whores. Sure they can find their own, or we can provide whores and remake the money they spend on them while keeping them content to stay on the yard instead of going out.
>>
>>25056194
Actually buy both the new building, and the support for specialists.

Possibly tell people that should productivity improve than wages will improve in lockstep with it to provide incentive.
>>
>>25056112
>>25056130
We don't KNOW the guy is embezzling. Call it a hunch. But that's why we ask in a way he can't refuse.

And, we're terrorising AND giving a bonus. The workers like us for cutting the grift and giving them more money. Foreman doesn't like us as much but won't cheat us due to fear - we would have to him just glanced at the accounts, deduced he was cheating us, and let him get away with half of it as long as he doesn't lie to us.

If he's NOT cheating us, well, we can trust him a bit better.
>>
>>25055962
I recommend we invest the 10 holdings on specialist staff and worker living facilities.

Also, wage increase reducing our income to 1 holding a week.

We should phase out the credit system to time with the construction of the improved living facilities.
Instruct them to sell goods at reduced prices. Workers will still be tempted to spend money in-house that way.
>>
>>25056240
You can sell goods at reduced prices without taking a profit hit, because the way store credit works is by charging the workers higher prices for goods you got good bulk deals on.
>>
>>25055962
>but would show an almost immediate uptick in productivity.
>and would also quickly increase productivity.

Do it. kill the credit system, increase wages and build the housing.

This is not our only source of income and will likely still see a profit anyway. This investment will lead to greater things.
>>
>>25056194
>If they have wives and families to go home to they're unlikely to use the bunks and so on, but the ones who are here probably do want whores. Sure they can find their own, or we can provide whores and remake the money they spend on them while keeping them content to stay on the yard instead of going out.

I think you keep forgetting the image we are trying to keep. A sweet little girl. Though our "little" outburst before might give a different impression to our workers permanently but it wont damage our city-wide reputation. Now providing whores, that is a different matter.

>>25056214
>Possibly tell people that should productivity improve than wages will improve in lockstep with it to provide incentive.
Oh, that's a good idea. Encourage the workers with the promise of raises if this works out.

>>25056240
>>25056279
I still think workers would appreciate having freedom to spend their money more.
....Why don't we ask the foreman? Ask him what would be better, to remove the credit completely or give raises and decrease the prices on company goods.
>>
>>25056231
So we use suggestion instead of Domination, investigate a tiny bit, and then we take action, we don't look before we leap like that.

We only rule by fear when we're outside the house if ruling by sweetness doesn't work.

>>25056326
We can obfuscate the whores being under our direct employ and have them officially under someone else, or have them technically hold some other believable position while in actuality they're whores who service the men.

We'll have to be careful about it, but I think it could be worth it to keep the workers' drinking and whoring in house.
>>
>>25056279
Do it. shit, order the shops to sell goods at cost.
The productivity increase from the morale boost would offset loss of shop profits.
>>
>>25056395
>We can obfuscate the whores being under our direct employ and have them officially under someone else,

No whores. We don't need to.
If men want whores, they'll get whores. Give them the planned pay rise and they'll get all the whores they want.

We don't even need to get involved. It's something people will do on their own with no input from us.
>>
>>25056326
>>25056318
>>25056240
You tell the foreman that you'll fund the new housing and additional specialists, and that he should have company credit phased out; the shops should instead sell goods at reduced prices for the workers to encourage them to stay on-site.

> Anything more you want to ask about? Do you want to speak to the workers directly about the pay raises, or let the foreman do it?
>>
>>25056395
>So we use suggestion instead of Domination
Whut? He doesn't know we're a vampire. No threats of domination.

I don't like the whore idea, to be honest. It will only attract seedy elements and wont increase production, in fact, it will distract and may actually decrease the production.
No, we keep our business clean and respectable. I don't care about obfuscation, illusions and other tricks. It just takes one fuck-up to have our reputation ruined.
>>
We're overthinking and micromanaging again.

5 holdings, expand, leave it at that for now.
>>
>>25056480
> You now have 8 Holdings left, of which 4 are virtual.
>>
>>25056480
Speech to the workers?

Inform them in the change of management and our plans for improved conditions and increased wages?

We do need to develop our public persona if we want to become an influential Noble of Grand Victoria. This would be a good start.

Let's do it.
>>
>>25056480
>>25056504
Yeah, I think this is enough for now. Unless somebody has a great idea.

Oh yeah, don't forget about checking the books more thoroughly. Either by taking the records with ourself or sending a servant (I don't think we can trust Mr Twitchy right now, we don't have him under our complete control)
>>
>>25056480
Ask the foreman to show us around.

While we are out there we can ask some of then "how much they are being paid" and be all shocked and everything.

Get to know a couple of the engineers a bit too.

We don't want to just hear everything from the foreman.
>>
>>25056480
We'll want to look through the books ourself, and if we don't find anything run them by our resident economic guy.

But for right now have the Foreman take us on a full tour and then speak to the workers ourself about the pay raises.
>>
>>25056547
We hired that accounting firm/law office/something back in thread 2.

We can have them go over and manage the books.

We're already paying them, might as well put them to work.
>>
>>25056604
Oh right, lets do that.
>>
>>25056604
Actually, you just have a reccomendation.
You could say that you got your servants to hire them off-camera though; there's plenty of time for that to have happened in.

I'd like to go, plan on having our accountant (magic one or hired one) go over the books at a later date. I'm also anxious to see what that one doll has been up to since our departure. Because you know, BRUTAL DOLL.

Investment firm if I recall correctly, but they'd have accountants.

Iirc, it just cost us 1 holding, right? Yeah, lets do it.
>>
>>25056667
Yes, 1 holding.
>>
>>25056624
Oh? I thought we hired them.

Well, we'll need their services so we should do that.

We will make accountants appear through the power of retcon.

Hired then. 7 holdings left, of which 4 are virtual.

I dunno man, I dunno.

It's tour time and then we get to speak to the workers.

You nod to the foreman, and ask him to tour the airship yard with you.
Workers nod in deference to the foreman, and, once your status is explained, to you. You ask around, but find nothing new; few of the workers seem willing to actually complain to the owner of the air yard about their problems. You wonder what kind of firing practices Earl Blackford had to make them react like this…

Finally, the foreman calls together the workers so that you can speak to all of them at once. After introducing you as the Lady Markova, new owner of the plant, he surrenders the balcony to allow you to speak.

> Generic encouraging speech time, I assume. Roll Masquerade and Acumen to get the workers on your side and wanting to work harder.

How do you measure the worth of a man? His wage? These are but the simple convenience for the company, a shackle that once bound you to their service by forcing you not to have a choice but be dependent on a company that terns you into easily replaced slaves.

No more. I understand there has been disquiet among workers. The voices of the masses lashing out and trying to find freedom. So long as you work for me I shall give you a fair wage, enough for a man to live, grown, and prosper. I do this not out of kindness but practicality. I desire nothing more than motivated workers who are happy, and give it there all for this company, and want to see it grow.

Before you were tools of this company, however now you are components.

"The voice of the masses lashing out and trying to find freedom!" says the tiny little girl.

Workers:
> Wait, wat.

I'm going to roll 1d100 to see if they understand what the eff you're saying. Let's be generous and say someone in the crowd has an acuity of 25 and it's a routine (+30) check, so it's a 55% someone will understand. As always, low is good.
>>
>>25057022
>>25057028
Silly Anon, we are a little girl who will give them a fair wage for an honest days work because we understand how valuable invested workers are.

We heard their complaints and their honest unhappiness and seek to change it because we are oh so nice and sweet.

We should have a tea party... that would be so much fun...
>>
>>25057049
Looks like the commies got to them earlier and taught them big words.
>>
>>25057049
Are we the best at hopeful speeches?

Did we accidentally start a marxist revolt?
>>
>>25056959
Use a little bit of our Voice to make them like us more. Not much, just a hint.

"Greetings, I am the lady Isabella Katarina Markova, and I am the new owner of this shipyard. I have loved airships since I was an even littler girl and would like with all of my heart to see this place succeed and grow, and I will need the help of every single one of you here in order to bring about this dream of mine, I am but a child and I can not do this on my own.

I value every single one of you, without you there would be no construction, no ships soaring through the sky, and to that end I have ordered the construction of superior accomodations and have removed the company credit system so you may spend your wage where you choose.

I do not promise to be perfect, I still have much to learn, but I believe with your help and hard work we can make this place succeed, and I promise that as profits increase your own wallets shall grow fat from the fruits of your efforts."
>>
>>25057049
>Go to the shipyard as a little girl business women

>Leave a communist party leader.
>>
You know, we really ought to investigate the commies further.

If they turn out to espouse a sufficiently anti-establishment message, we might be able to manipulate them into weakening the power of the religious authorities and witch hunter types.
>>
>>25057174
Well at the very least it'll make things exciting, and due to widespread worker dissatisfaction it'll spread, the workers will love the fuck out of us, and we'll have ready sources of labor for our expansion into the market.

Though I could see other business leaders getting pissed as hell at us.
>>
>>25057174
To be honest, starting a fantasy USSR with a select group of vampires at the top, fighting against the place that hates vampires while claiming it is because of unfair wage slavery would be an awesome quest.
>>
>>25057076
>>25057004
Don't mind me, I'm just trying to make these two speeches flow together nicely.
>>

While we wait, is there anyway we can make a vampire bolshivik party? I am sort of into this idea now.
>>
>>25057281
>>25057195
It would certainly be a bit different from the classic Nazi vampire thing.
>>
>>25057304
I am still 100% on board with creepy little vampire girl with dolls doing creepy things. But there are a lot of humans. And if we can get the mages on board we would go from minor noble in the vampire circles to one of the more powerful ones.
>>
>>25057281
It should be interesting to try at least, and our hold on the mayor will be useful and if we encourage the word to spread we might just end up with a stranglehold on all labor.
>>
>Wake up at 5:00pm
>Missed four hours of Vampire Doll Quest
Damn.
>>
>>25057345
With a control of the market we can choke out the other nations who do not accept the glorious future of the worker. All the while we slowly make our way up the vampire ranks.
>>
Airship manufacturers unitw! You have nothing to lose but gravity, and your blood!
>>
>>25057281
Well as long as we basically do what the actual commie leaders did and use the worker's desire for equality as a method of putting ourself on top of everyone else under the guise of equality then I'm all for it.

Because manipulating people's desire for fair treatment for personal gain is hilarious.
>>
>>25057417
That is where I was going with it yeah. Plus it fits with our theme of using other agents and manipulation to further our own ends.
>>
>>25057394
And then the secret police start removing dissenters, and we get a nice new supply of 'materials'.

"Hello, everyone!"

You hop up onto the chair they've given you so you can speak over the rail, and you wave cheerily at the crowd.

"I'm the Lady Isabella Katarina Markova, and I own this shipyard now. I've always loved airships, and now I've come to own this excellent place- which means I can now come watch airships be built every day!"

You smile, letting the faint hypnotic power of your voice wash over the crowd.

"I want with all my heart to see this place thrive and grow, like the roses I helped grow with my parents when I was an even littler girl than I am today. To do that, I'm going to need the help of all of you; I'm just a little girl, and I can't do it all on my own."

You let yourself glance momentarily at the foreman, knowing he'll remember that he told you to suck it up when you said you were an orphan. His guilt will bind him to you all the better.

"I want you to know that no matter how heavily the chains of your previous service have weighed upon you, that I'm here to help. I've listened to your conversations, and I know that you want your pay to be something you can spend- so company credit is gone now. New bunkhouses will also be built for the night shift, and we're going to get some more specialists to make this place into the best airship yard in all of Mark- or maybe all of Grand Victoria! I can't wait to see an airship we've made flying in the Empress's fleet, can you?"

You nod and grin as the workers below you bellow a massive YES!

"If you have any problems, if you think something's unsafe, if you need more pay, come to me! I will do what I can for any of you, all of you, because we're all brothers and sisters in our love for the sky. I can’t promise I'll be perfect, but with your help and effort we'll make this the grandest shipyard this side of Ulvenwald!"

> Continued
>>
You guys are looking at the wrong target.

Eyesocket! A single city-state without a country or empire to support them.

All those repressed masses. Chain gangs marched through the streets by jack-booted thugs.

The corrupt Nobility growing fat on the exploitation of the down-trodden poor.

It's perfect.

>Create hoboflesh assassins.
>Create armour-hobo shock troops.
>Build war-fleet of airships.
>Assassinate the wealthy land owners that could oppose us and storm in with our forces.
>Sell it to the masses as 'liberation' and give them shtick about 'freedom for the people' blah blah.

We Overlady now.
>>
>>25057533
The workers below you bellow a roar of approval, and you descend from the balcony to massive cheering and applause. The foreman is looking at you with a new kind of respect, now; you nod your head to him and see the guilt flicker across his face as you go.

Looking up into the now-starry sky, you smile, and cast your parasol back into the crowd, spreading your arms to take in the night, and pirouette once, slowly, casting your head back to take in the night's grandeur.

Watching as the crowd starts to fight over who will get to return the parasol to you, you smile, and step into your carriage. You've left your mark on the workers. They'll not betray you easily if you can keep your promises.

> Where to? There's still a little time before the shops close for the evening.

You also forgot the part where we rule over all vampire kind as an unseen puppet-master
>>
>>25057596
lets not feed in Mark. We can always go to Eyesocket and eat few beggars. No one will care.
>>
>>25057550
To the dress maker, we need to, if you forgive the terrible pun, doll ourself up some more.

We have already set our financial people to look through this place's books, and we'll take a look ourself later if they don't find anything, just in case. The guilt on the foreman's face makes me suspicious.

>>25057596
We'll do that at home most likely, we've got plenty of people there and I'd rather not cause a fuss in Mark. If we really need someone we can hit the forests of Ulvenwald or Eyesocket.
>>
>>25057633
Agreed. Just wanted to see if it was a live or die thing right now.
>>
>>25057550

Have we new livery for our new personal aides/guards/servants?

We might want to order something done for all that hassle.

I know most would be from vamp-town.

Also, any hint on tracking the lost doll? Magic spell to trace it, scry if it is local?

"To the dressmaker's! It's been a long day and I'd like to indulge in my wardrobe."
The reins snap, and the team of horses start to trot forwards. You let the gentle rocking of the coach lull you after your busy day, and almost before you know it you're alighting at the dressmaker and tailors'.
Stepping inside, the woman at the cashier bows to you, clearly reading your rank in your mannerisms and apparel.
"Evening, Milady. What does milady desire for her wardrobe on this fine night?

> Standard clothing: No Holdings expenditure, just clothing what makes us look different and gives minor stat boosts.
> Custom-Tailored clothing: Requires an expenditure of at least 1 Holdings, can be made to our exact specifications as we desire, likely gives larger stat boosts or additional utility over normal clothing.

Eh, it's a foreman, not the boss, he does not own the means of production, he's just slightly higher up on the grunt ladder.

FRIENDLY REMINDER TO WOULD-BE COMMIE SCUM:

THE VAMPIRE AND THE MOB ARE NOT FRIENDS. TO BEFRIEND THE MOB IS TO ANGER THE VAMPIRE.

WE ARE NOT THE ONLY VAMPIRE, AND WE ARE NOT THE ONLY PARTY WITH A STAKE IN THIS TOWN OF REVOLUTION.

BE WARNED THAT THIS WILL NOT GO UNNOTICED.

THAT IS ALL.
>>
>>25057824
It's one possible way you could proceed, yep.
>>
>>25057817
Both, we'll want some normal clothes to expand our wardrobe. Some more normal, somber, boring clothes that don't stand out.

We'll also want some custom tailored clothes designed along the same lines as our Sweet and Childlike for when we're social, and Dark and Elegant for some certain visitors we receive or when we work with other intellectuals.

For the childlike one we want it to work with our sakura-print parasol, we look very nice in pinks, reds, and white. As always fascinators and opera gloves are a must.

For Dark and Elegant we'll want to go for black and silver, maybe a veil as well.
>>
>>25057858
It is not like we are starting the revolution right now. We take care of business and make slow steady steps. Build a power base and work from the shadows.
>>
>>25057902
Should we get something for our thralls? The ones we have follow us out into the day or we have to sometimes take to company?
>>
>>25057817
We'll take a holding's worth of clothes, if we can get some basic livery for our new guards at the same time.
The dolla can trim them to fit the clothing later.
>>
>>25057858
I think the point is to subvert the communist movement to serve the goals of the vampires, not actually improve the lives of the poor. You know, overthrow the state religion and do away with the witch-hunters so our kind can operate in secret. Political prisoners who are "disappeared" actually end up as snacks in the vampire city. That sort of thing.
>>
>>25057919
Just standard clothing, I'd think.

They're not that important to us yet.
>>
>>25057959
What would you like your servants' livery to retroactively look like?

> I'm leaning towards all-white to match the dolls myself.
>>
Custom outfit to reach the people
>+Masquerade
>+Discipline
>+Acumen
>-Ferocity

This will help greatly in manipulation without magic and allow us to influence as we need.
>>
>>25057919
Yes, yes we should. We'll want them to follow similar color schemes, either dark and professional, or white and very pristine looking, for the men we get well tailored suits, we may need to bring them in later for that or have that taken care of in house, for the women we go for black/white dresses, perhaps with red accents, some sensuality and making them hug our female servant's figures would be good on those.

We want to contrast some with our servants when we're looking sweet and childlike look like a bright and colorful flower amongst the stark white/black of our guys, and to look innocent compared to the somewhat sensual female servants. Contrast is important.
>>
>>25058004
Agreed, but what should it look like. Something that gives bonuses like that would be very good for us.
>>
>>25058018
As a further point, their lives were pretty bad before us. I mean, yeah, we are sort of highly dangerous, but they are no longer sleeping in the streets, no longer in danger of getting killed from rival gangs, we give them food and supplies and we will keep them alive so long as they are useful. We might as well give them nice outfits, and be generally sort of nice that way we mind break them faster.
>>
>>25057989
>all white to match the dolls
Sure. With white top hats.

Guys, we need to get/make a dog.

This dog must be absolutely huge and be the fluffiest, cuddliest thing anyone has ever seen.
People will see this cute little girl and her huge cuddly dog and think it's adorable.
They will see the way it always follows us around and obeys us perfectly and think it is just sooo cute!

Then, on command, our dog will become a mutant hell-beast that strikes fear into the hearts of all who see it.
It will rend our enemies apart with fury and brutality that would make the Blood God cringe.

Every little girl needs a puppy.

Clothing wise I can't think of anything else that I haven't already mentioned. We want a pretty extensive wardrobe so we can always look the part for a given situation, and we want our servants to compliment and contrast our outfits.
>>
>>25058611
Oh, uh. Frilly dress for us with lace and bows?
>>
>>25058611
I don't really have any opinion on clothing so I support whatever was suggested already, even if we're buying several clothes.
>>
>>25058641
We already have a few of those.

Alright then looks like the votes are in.

You smile at the dressmaker, and have her take your measurements for a yukata. You discuss the impression you wish to give- of competence but youth and energy- and she seems to understand what you mean quite well. Deciding that this dressmaker, who knows how to listen to her clients, is worth patronizing, you tell her you'll be sending her some of your servants tomorrow in order to have them fitted for livery, and you select the colors you wish her to use.

You leave the store with your wallet a little lighter, but fully satisfied that you'll be receiving a garment of quality.

"Coachman!"

> You have spent 1 holding. You now have 6 holdings available, of which 4 are virtual.

> Back to the castle, or is there something else you wish to do?

I am the Lady of my castle.
Innocence is my body, and Vampire is my blood.
I have worn over a thousand dresses, unaware of claws, nor aware of stains.
Withstood pain to collect many dolls, yet my hands will never hold anything.
So, as I pray, Unlimited Lace Works.

One thing I was thinking of is could we eventually give our sevants doll parts? Like a fake doll arm with a sword that comes out of it or something?
>>
>>25058859
Back to the castle. Let's see what our dolls have been making while we've been away.

Dolls~!

Alright then, I don't think there's anything else left to do in town.
>>
>>25058888
Interesting idea. Outwardly human servants, but underneath the clothes they are all simply dolls.

I mean, they wouldn't be the same delicate and beautiful dolls we keep in the dollhouse. They'd be made stronger, with less elegence and fragility.
>>
>>25058926
Apart from finding a speaker to lead the eventual workers revolution. But I would rather have someone we have totally broken do that.
>>

> Less Elegance
... What.
>>
>>25058859
Head home and check up on our Dolls.
Let's see what they've made.

After that, maybe head out to Eyesocket and grab some hobos for dinner/fleshbeasts/chattel.
>>
>>25058949
I think he means because the y still look human. Our dolls are more elegant than humans.

Like that Scarlet or what ever we named her. Something like pic related
>>
>>25058949
If they were too elegent, they would be in the dollhouse rather than acting as servants where they might get damaged.

FUCK. OFF. UBW IS NOT COOL.

>>25058859
Return to the castle. Check on how the servants are accliming. Talk to them. Check on the dolls/hunter.

Unless we can drop by the investment firm to have an accountant check the books?
>>
>>25059057
Cool. Already voted up in the archives.

Any idea on a time for the next thread?
>>
>>25059123
It's night time now. We'll do that tomorrow.

Or send a servant to do it. Whatever.
