Predator Quest: Episode 22

You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to investigate breaches of forbidden knowledge by clan Weyland on the planet Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known in the human tongue.

The impact of the massive crate against the lower catwalk shakes the entire foundation violently. The shock wave throws you against the railing, but you brace yourself and remain upright.

Below, Night-Star and his two warriors tumble face first into the metal grating. For the moment, you have the high ground, and their heavy armor hinders their recovery. This is your chance.

Do you:

A. Leap down upon Night-Star and tackle him. (DC: Medium)
B. Open fire on them with your plasma-caster. (DC: Medium-Easy)
C. Throw your disc at them to try to cut them down. (DC: Medium-Hard)
D. Use the opportunity to retreat back to the shadows and regroup in the reactor room.

The doomcaster has finally failed us.

>> Open fire on them with your plasma-caster. (Critical Failure)

You open fire with your plasma casters. A flurry of bolts are loosed from all three of your cannons, and they slam into the targets below, one after the next.

But their armor is simply too thick. The plasma-resistant alloy deflects your bolts with some ease. You overcharge your next shot, and it seems to have some effect, but not well enough.

They regain their posture, and begin to return fire. The deadly counter-fire suppresses you and your teammates, and you are forced to withdraw.

Do you:

A. Withdraw into the reactor chamber.
B. Try to take a shot using your disc from behind cover. (DC: Hard)
C. Try to hold your ground and continue to trade shots with your spear gun. (DC: Hard)

You signal your teammates, and motion for a fighting retreat back to the reactor room. You are halfway there, when one of the enemy warriors burns through his suit's manoeuvring jets to grapple onto the upper catwalk to block your path. He turns and yells at you to surrender. His twin targeting beams begin dancing across your body.

Do you:

>>A. Open fire with your spear gun. (Pass, vs. DC of 14)

You drop to the ground and level your spear gun in one smooth motion. Without much time to aim, you snap off a shot towards the warrior. The dense, armor-piercing spear slams into the warrior's abdomen, through his armor, and into his flesh.

He howls in pain and staggers to the ground. In his panic, he looses a burst of wild plasma bolts which sail over your head.

Seeking-Eye and Quick-Shadow both dash forward. Seeking-Eye slams his disc into the warrior's face while Quick-Shadow slices into his visor's targeting systems with his claws.

You scramble back on your feet, shove the barrel of your spear gun under the warrior's chest, and depress the trigger. A spray of fluorescent blood fountains upwards, and the warrior is dead.

The three of you sprint ahead and dive into the corridor leading to the reactor chamber.

Do you:

A. Take some time and use the remainder of your mines to mine the corridor, and stand your ground here.
B. Take some time and use the remainder of your mines to mine the corridor, then retreat back to the reactor chamber.

The three of you sprint full speed to the reactor room. Burning-Scythe locks and secures the door behind you.

"We can hold here," Burning-Scythe tells you, "They won't dare to open fire with the reactor so close by; a stray shot can kill us all.

I think pulling some reverse psychology might work best - stand right out in the open and project a hologram of ourself somewhere else - let them think we're trying the same trick twice then just rush them when they step through

>>A. Order your team into position using the reactor as cover.

You order your team into position. Burning-Scythe and Quick-Shadow move into position along the far back while Seeking-Eye positions himself near one of the reactor's pylons, close to the entrance.

Do you:

A. Position yourself in the far back, with Quick-Shadow and Burning-Scythe.
B. Position yourself near the reactor, with Seeking-Eye
C. Position yourself forward, flush against the wall next to the entrance.

Get the others to stand back, project a hologram of yourself elsewhere and get a teammate to mimic your voice when they enter
>>
>>25026494
Problem with that: Targeting lasers go through holograms. Their primary weapons are plasma casters, thus if they target us for even a second they'll realize we aren't a hologram and fry us if we're just standing in the middle of the room.

C. Position yourself forward, flush against the wall next to the entrance.
D. Use the holo-emitter to project a yourself to the side while standing in the open. (DC: Medium-Hard)

>> C. Position yourself forward, flush against the wall next to the entrance.

You position yourself flush against the wall next to the entrance and ready your combi-stick.

"Bad news," you hear Burning-Scythe say. "One of their teams en route to the bridge was taken out by our mines, but the other team is being diverted here, to assault the reactor. We're going to have a bit more company."

You decide to check in with your mentor as to the status of Night-Star's flagship. "Still working on it," he tells you, "a few more rooms to go."

You hear a loud crack against the sealed doors beside you, and see a brilliant green dot slowly moving down the middle. They can't risk using breaching charges this close to the reactor room, so they're trying to cut it open with a plasma cutter.

Soon, the door breaks in two, and the first warrior rushes through.

Do you:

A. Wait until he enters the room and tackle him from the back. (DC: Medium)
B. Tackle him from the side and try to skewer him with your combi-stick (DC: Medium-Hard)

You rush forward and slam into the side of the heavy warrior. The momentum of your unexpected charge throws him off balance. With all your might, you grip the combi-stick with both hands and thrust forward. Your spear punctures through this armor and enters his flesh.

You depress the button to trigger your expando-tip. The spear blade explodes within the warrior, and the vented plasma cook him from the inside. He shudders, his armor cracks as the flesh within is liquefied, and he falls, dead.

You glance at the corridor. Night-Star is nowhere to be seen.

He's probably running to regroup with what's left of his boarding team.

You angle underneath his swing and slam into him with your shoulder. He staggers back and instinctively shields his face with his claws. You have managed to gain the upper hand.

A. Attempt to disarm his plasma casters.
B. Attempt to disable his visor's targeting systems

>>B. Catch his left hand and slice it off with your combi-stick. (Fail, vs. DC of 15.)

You catch his left hand as he swings it towards you. Before you could ready your combi-stick, however, he suddenly kicks out with both his legs, striking the side of your knee. You stumble backwards.

You steady yourself to find him in a ready position, combi-stick raised.

Behind you, Seeking-Eye and Quick-Shadow catch up to you, but the narrow catwalk allows enough room for only one warrior.

Quick-Shadow raises his spear gun.

"Shall I?" He asks you.

"Do it," you tell him.

But before Quick-Shadow can pull the trigger, Night-Star suddenly dashes to his right and takes a flying leap off the catwalk.

You watch as he falls towards the loading bay below. At the last moment, you see his suit's jets flare, followed by a muted thump. You see he is alive, but severely injured. He begins to crawl away, far below.

"Their reinforcements have reached the barracks," Burning-Scythe tells you over the comms.

You attach a tether to the next projectile and fire it at the scaffolding below.

You ask your teammates to hold their position, and you take a swan dive over the railings.

The mono-filament tether pulls you tight as you sail through the air, and the reel spins quickly to slowing your fall. You land gracefully, and retract the tether.

Night-Star stops his crawling and pulls himself up. His legs are clearly broken. He leans against the wall, and removes his helmet. You approach him slowly, with your spear gun raised.

He stares at you with his bruised face. "Well. It seems I'm at your mercy. What now?"

"This is Night-Star to boarding teams," he speaks into his comms channel. "We are aborting this mission. Return to the hangar and wait for further commands."

He clicks thoughtfully. "You don't even know, do you? Betray the empire? You dare leverage that accusation against me? Young Cloud-Viper, I am trying to SAVE the empire."

He pauses, and inhales deeply.

"Look around you. Look at this ship. It took the humans 30 years to design this ship. 30 years ago, this entire behemoth was an idea in someone's head. 30 years later it is reality. It took them two years to build this prototype cannon from a fragment of a Yautja reactor. It didn't work, sure, but give them another year and it will. What have we done, Three-Claw? There really is no point in trying to argue with him -- from all his actions it is obvious he can't be persuaded. The only question is whether we kill him now, or if his conspirators kill him later.
>>
>>25028578
C.
>>
>>25028578
A we have plenty of things to fight, humans can't be trusted, it could easily get out of hand, we could kill humans in a sneakier way
>>
They want to toy with the humans like the humans want to toy with the xenomorphs. It will all end in tears
>>

C

We've got what amounts to a full confession on tape. He doesn't need to hear our response.

Although he makes a damn good point about the Oomies and their eventual threat level. I think it might be about time to turn Earth into "Super Happy Serpent Huntland" by sneaking a Queen or two into some remote areas and letting nature take its course. If the comics are anything to go by, humanity WILL lose earth to the xenos at their current tech level, and we can hunt the survivors back to the stone age.
>>
>>25028657
And in a full circle, with the Xenomorphs toying with we mighty Yautja.
>>
>>25028578
Cultural and scientific stagnation is a real problem. But this is one of the dumbest ways to go about changing things. The Weyland clan has as much drive to exploit as they do to understand. Just look at what they did to our hunting grounds. Trying to breed and control the serpents has bit them in the ass Every. Single. Time. Giving them plasma weapons will just make them a threat to themselves and all other humans. There is no possibility of a worthy opponent.

Only thing we can do now is lock him up in a box and hope our superiors can get something out of him.
>>
>>25028674
We're certainly not turning him over to the Night Prowlers.
>>
>>25028674
I get a bad feeling someone on our team is going to end up being a co-conspirator. The whole movement or whatever sounds like one of those shit ideas that lots of people still fall for
>>
>>25028695
...I believe we may have found our nemesis.

>C

You grip your spear gun with both hands and ram the stock into the side of his head. The blow connects with a sharp crack. You check his vitals. Alive, but unconsious.

You see Seeking-Eye and Quick-Shadow hurry down from the passage behind you.

"That's it then." Quick-Shadow mutters.

You open a comms channel with your mentor. "Night-Star is secured."

"Good news. We almost have the flag-ship. Just making a last sweep now," your mentor tells you.

"What do you want me to do with the Night-Prowlers in the hangar?" Burning-Scythe asks you.

You respond:

A. "Let them board the shuttles and leave."
B. "Lock the bay doors. Seal the hanger. Lock them in there.
C. "Order them to disarm and march themselves to the storage room, then lock them in.
>>
>>25028695
yeah that's going to cause a lot of trouble I bet. They're going to want to judge him themselves, and everyone else won't trust them to

C
>>
>>25028708
C. "Order them to disarm and march themselves to the storage room, then lock them in.

Some precautions need to be taken here, whilst we harbor no ill will towards them for following orders, they cant be left to roam about fully armed.
>>
>>25028708
C. I doubt just locking the doors will be enough.
>>
>>25028708
Someone checks the storage rooms first, but C. I don't want Yautja McGuyver jumping up and kicking our ass while we get back home.
>>
>>25028578
C

From what we've seen, Weyland-Yutani's complete lack of ethics and reason leave them a threat to themselves and others.

They could stumble upon a way to take down the empire within the century, if they don't destroy humanity first.

>>25028708
C

It's nothing personal, but we were just killing each other.
>>
>>25028708
C

We need to be sure they can't try something funny. Night-Star's co-conspirators are going to be wanting him dead now that he's been caught, so we can't have a bunch of heavily armed wildcards running around.
>>
>>25028727
>Yautja-McGuyver

That's our mentor right? He got thrown in a cell and before we even knew about him being thrown int he brig he broke out and started to take over the ship.

"Order them to disarm and march themselves to the storage room, then lock them in."

"Right. I'll get on it."

Quick-Shadow nudges the unconscious Night-Star with his foot.

"And what do we do with him?"

You answer:

A. "We should probably throw him out the airlock."
B. "Let's lock him in one of these crates. We'll put a few air holes so he can breathe."
C. "Let's tie him up and throw him in my ship, once the flagship is fully ours."
>>

C
>>

B & C

Lock him in a crate and put it on our ship, then we fly it back cause its faster, while the oomie ship catches up
>>
>>25028764
C. But remove all his gear first. As much as I want to space the fucker, I'm sure it might cause us some trouble back home somehow.

B. "Let's lock him in one of these crates. We'll put a few air holes so he can breathe."

Have someone keep an eye on him. We really really shouldnt put him in our ship...just in case.
>>
>>25028777
Oh yeah, this.

Actually, lets check his gear for anything nice, too.

>Our matriarch arranged for the night prowler fleet to be present in this action

I don't know what's worse. The idea of the matriarch being a co-conspirator, or the idea of Jackal being one.
>>
>>25028800
I highly doubt Jackal is one, judging from his actions.
>>
>>25028812
Did we have anything to go by for Jackal other then a radio message?
>>
>>25028800
>Jackal is the traitor

Pffft no way man. He's been our bro from day one. There's simply no evidence to support him being a traitor.

He's the last yautja i'd expect to turn on us...

>>
>>25028800
if anything its a counter-conspiracy

there would be so many better ways to go about busting the night prowlers asses over this than what has occured
>>
>>25028826
Didn't some other members of our group go over to the flagship to help secure it? We should talk to them.
>>
>>25028800
>>25028763
>>25028740
>>25028842
Caution and skepticism are healthy for a good Opredator. But let's not let paranoia guide our actions. We must be thorough. We must be precise. No one escapes Yautja-justice, and if the tribunal won't deliver, then we will.
>>
>>25028826
yeah we sent another team over there to help Jackal take that ship over
>>
>>25028786
>>B.

You peel off his boarding armor and remove his wrist blades. You drag his body into a nearby crate while Quick-Shadow holds the door open and Seeking-Eye punctures a few holes on the side with his blades. You dump the body inside and seal the doors.

"That's it," you hear your mentor say over the comms. "We've cleared the ship. Most of the crew surrendered. They're in the holding brig now. I'm sweeping the ship for Night-Star's personal files. I'm sending Sharp-Strike back to you now. I'll need Steel-Arrow to help me fly this thing; I can't exactly trust any of the crew. Is your ship space-worthy, or will I have to tow you home?"

You check with Burning-Scythe. "I'll get it home under its own power. But human FTL is primitive. Will take us a good month."

Do you answer:

A. Have the flagship tow you home.
B. Ask the flagship to escort you while you limp home under your own power.

Can we loot the captured warriors' gear during the travel or is it dishonorable
>>
>>25028901
A.

I hate guarding hostiles/dealing with conspiracy problems for extended periods of time in confined spaces.

If the human ship has any sort of tracking mechanisms on it, we should disable them immediately.
>>
>>25028901
A

Lets give the conspirators as little time as possible to run damage control. We need to be back home ASAP.
>>
>>25028932
Actually, what are there any rules for that in situations like these? Are we allowed to take anything from Night-Star? Or does it return to his clan?
>>

A
>>
>>25028963
Well, we've got his honor strapped to our belt. That's a great trophy btw.
>>
>>25028946
Oh thank you, person who thinks! Disable any trackers, we can -not- have the homeworld be found.
>>
>>25028978
A damn good trophy indeed
>>
>>25028929
>>A. Have the flagship tow you home.

You open a channel to your mentor. "You'd better tow us. Human FTL is far too slow."

"Right. Under way."

Sharp-Strike brings your ship into the hangar, and sets it down.

You tell him to secure the ship and tether it to the docking bay.

Burning-Scythe coordinates with Jackal and Steel-Arrow as the two ships are tethered together. The flagship opens its foldspace engines, and you jolt forward as both ships are tugged into the fold.

It will take you 7 days to reach home.
