You are a Magical Girl, and you're on your way to meet an idol - namely, Minase Iori from 765 Productions. It must be said, here, that you're not at all looking forward to this meeting. Not because of any ill feeling toward the idol, it's just...things happened. A lot of things.

And you'll be the first to admit that you didn't part ways with her all that neatly before you left for Siberia, leaving her in tears and in the care of some spoiled kid who shot himself unconscious with your own tranquilizer gun.
>>
>>25010670

You could have handled it better, you think, instead of hiding behind the tissue-thin veneer of professionality that was almost always soaked through with alcohol. Then again, you did need to put your foot down, then. You needed some space to yourself.

But why did you? It was a misunderstanding, after all. Plain and simple. You did something stupid, she overheard it on the phone, and suspected the worst. She acted cold and guarded and angry - and who wouldn't have, in that situation? Was she really coming on too strong, or were you just simply unused to having someone be concerned for you in that kind of way?

You'll have to figure it out later, you grumble. You just need to hash it out with her, and then...you'll let the cards fall where they may. You're Warmaster now. You can't afford to get...caught up in such things. Not with a civilian.

There's no sense dragging someone who still has a life into yours. You'd be sending them to an early grave if you do.

You're currently being driven to the coffee shop that Iori wanted you to meet her in. The car is the usual company car you're always ferried around in - you bet it's the same one that Kyoko fetched you from the airport with - and the driver is the Eversor that helped you with the panties from earlier, Ishikawa Kumatora. She's not as smooth a driver as Kyoko, but she knows her way around. She didn't even need to get the directions from you - she says she's a regular there, and can't resist their strangely-named coffee shakes.

You grind your third cigarette in as many minutes into the ashtray built into the car's center armrest, before lighting up another one. ...It's not like you to be nervous before a meeting like this. It's just Iori, after all. You're just going to clear things up with her. Simple as that. Nothing to worry about.

...If that's the case, then why the fuck do you feel like you're about to do something completely horrible and unforgivable?

[1/2]
>>
>>25010676

Christ, you'd have preferred setting fire to an orphanage instead. No, you wouldn't do something like that - not with good reason, like if it was an orphanage full of zombie children - but in comparison to what you're about to do...

"...We're nearly there, sempai," Kumatora calls from her seat way up front. "Just a few more blocks."

Right. She can take her time, really. There's no rush.

"Nonsense, sempai! This is your coffee date, after all! Sempai's got to be punctual!"

...Yeah. Coffee date.

You glance down at the shield clamped down on your arm.

Hell, even talking to Pinky seems preferable. It's...you should probably talk to her, right? Just to check up on things.

Wanting to talk to Pinky is the king of horrible ideas. She will either annoy the shit out of us or be threatening and jealus as fuck.
And you really want to talk to Iori to clear up stuff after talking to a lovecraftian monstrosity in loli-form?
Are guys lunatics?

And what if she rips us apart again and we have to go to hospital for a few days? The missions were are supposed to do would go either to shit or be delegated to someone inferior to us and cost lives.

You decide holding off on talking to Pinky until later. While it certainly can provide the distraction - nothing else like stopping time to talk to a murderous, insane goddess in a pink dress to distract yourself from your problems - you need to focus on what you're about to do. It's going to be unpleasant, yes, and crying may be involved, but if you want this settled, then you'll just have to grit your teeth and simply go through with it. You can talk to Pinky later, after everything is over. She'd probably gloat over it, but you won't particularly be caring then.

You go through half of your current pack of cigarettes before the car comes to a stop, with the tell-tale ratcheting of Kumatora engaging the parking brake. You glance out the window, and immediately see Iori sitting at one of the outdoor tables, sipping one of those coffee shakes you've been hearing so much about.

The coffee shop's pretentious name - Cafe Coffee - is at least offset by the fact that they seem to be an outlet serving Duncan Hills Coffee, which is alright as far as coffee goes. You think it's a bit too strong yourself, for something to jolt you into wakefulness during dreary mornings, but you tolerate it well enough.

"I'll just wait here in the car for you, sempai, until it's time to go," Kumatora says cheerfully, rolling down her own window and reclining the driver's seat a few inches - what looks to be a portable gaming console activating in her gloved hands. "Take your time, don't worry about me!"

You nod at her, before looking back outside. It seems that Iori hadn't spotted you yet - well, not her fault, the windows are tinted so darkly that it looks like it's night outside. You glance back at Kumatora, and ask her if she wants anything from the coffee shop. It'll be your treat.

[1/2]
>>
>>25011099

"E-eh? Oh...um, one of their Cold As A Forgotten Grave coffee shakes, sempai, if it's not too much! Extra Brutally-Whipped Cream and Cadaverous Chocolate syrup!" The girl quickly volunteers, immediately brightening at your offered generosity. "And please tell them to add extra coffee jelly!"

...Right. You'll try to remember that, but you'll bring her something, guaranteed.

"Thank you, sempai! Good luck on your date!"

Yeah, thanks. You're going to need it.

You pop open your passenger side door and slowly get out of the car - one hand on your cap to keep it from falling off. It's here that Iori seems to have noticed you, and quickly stands up from her seat, nearly spilling her own shake in the process. She waves at you, energetically, positively beaming.

"Chiaki-san! Over here!" She calls, not too loudly, but enough to grab the attention of the rest of the shop's customers - customers you notice are also idols, some of them wearing the same costume as Iori is. A few of them eye you critically with narrowed eyes, while some hunker down with their friends, resuming their conversation in hushed whispers, turning to look at you after every sentence or two.

You nod at her in slow acknowledgement, still unused to the attention but managing at least to deal with it better than you did earlier. They're no Magical Girls, that's for sure - why should you care what the fuck they thought about you? You can talk to anyone you like, even if it's Iori. And besides, she's the one calling your attention, not the other way around - you're not some lovestruck fan stalking an idol. The idol is stalking YOU.

. . .

Right, you need to relax. Maybe...you need to take off the damn hat before joining Iori on her table, eh?

[]Take the hat off.
[]Keep the hat on. It's helping.

And sooner or alter we will need to confess to our friends anyway that Pinky is our fault.

Yeah, from our conversation with Pinky on the plane back, Midori putting Chiaki back together helped our memory a bit. Still fuzzy on some details, but it's confirmed for a fact that we know that Pinky, and by extension her actions, are our fault.

Well, getting Midori and Pinky to meet again might be a bit awkward but it could, maybe, work out.

Getting Mami to meet Pinky might cause certain secrets to come to light.

Then again, as was pointed out, she might blab to Kyubey and then we'd be in deep-shit trying to explain to our boss why his Warmaster never told him she was having conversations with the eldritch abomination that's behind the Golden Weapons case.

At least I think so. It's been a while, so I don't remember it very clearly. I'm fairly certain that that's how it went though; all surviving, but Makoto getting hospitalized.

If the Idolmasters are here, are the Puchis?
Nothing, and I say NOTHING, not even the combined horrors of Pinky, Faust and Kharn's tentacle tongue can match the utter terror of a Harukasan near water.

From what I remember, tons of idols (and waitors, security contingents, etc) died, just most of them weren't named since Iori wasn't that close to them.

That's all probably super classified and she'll get in serious trouble if she publishes stuff based on those events. We might be Warmaster but Kyubey can still over-rule us..

>>
>>25011524
>readers have to read the subtext to pick up how exactly the relationship has changed
As an irregular reader of yuri series, I can say no yuri writer worth her salt will do this.
Readers want to see every step of the relationship, without skipping. The only skip allowed would be after the relationship is consolidated.

A small sigh escapes your lips as you feel more than a dozen pairs of idol eyes boring right into you, scrutinizing your every move. So you won't be able to talk to Iori in private, huh? You were hoping that this wouldn't be out in public, but you did ask for her to pick the location. Somewhere she felt safe. And really, you don't have any call to blame anyone else for this. This is your bed, you made it, now you have to sleep in it.

You make your way towards Iori's table, focusing on the one person you came here to talk to and no one else, your steps calm, deliberate and measured. Just before you reach Iori - just a few steps until you do - you reach up to take the hat off, clasping it by the front brim and levering it off your head in a quick flourish. You reach up with your other hand - just as you tuck the damnable hat underneath your arm - and do that hair thing you did earlier, raking your fingers down its length before flipping the mass of strands over your shoulder. The entire routine taking no less than two heartbeats.

You come to a stop just as your hair settles behind you, a heavy sort of warmth on your back and neck, and you open your eyes to meet Iori's gaze with the most indifferent look you can manage. A look that very nearly fell apart into one of surprise as you see the idol staring at you, her eyes wide and awestruck, her mouth half-open. Her cheeks stained crimson.

...It could be just coincidence, but the chatter seems to have also died away into silence right after you did that.

[1/2]
>>
>>25011561
>Readers want to see every step of the relationship, without skipping
Something out of chronological order can work, as long as you show what happened eventually.

Often when a couple might split up; as if something terrible had happened between the two of them.

Though in this case it wouldn't fit into that relationship quite as much.
>>
>>25011635

"Chiaki-san, I..." Iori blinks again, cheeks burning redder. "I...I sort of had an idea what your new look was, b-but I wasn't expecting...um..." She fidgets on the spot, wringing her gloved hands. Despite Mami's advice for her to wear something a bit more casual to this meeting, her outfit is decidedly an idol's - a silk one-piece gown the color of cream, with frills in just the right areas and a body-hugging contour that blossomed out into a short, puffy skirt that bared the knees and legs. Her hands, encased in silk gloves of the same color, ending at the wrist in nearly-transparent lace cuffs. A rose headband completed the outfit, the petals created from the same material with the same hue.

She looks almost like a bride about to go to a wedding, really. You'd have guessed as much, if it weren't for the other idols in the coffee shop wearing the same exact outfit, with a few differing modifications.

There's an uncertain silence between the both of you, still standing like that - Warmaster and Idol, in an awkward meeting, one waiting for the other to finish her stuttered words, one waiting for the other to speak. You narrow your eyes as you hear a giggle come from somewhere near the neighboring tables, and you clear your throat carefully. Taking the initiative.

How do you start this encounter?

Made it to a thread in time. Unfortunately, not time to stay. Someone do me a favor and remember to ask Iori exactly where the concert for Ruri is being held, later? If it's at the mall, then there's a decent chance that not only will Iori and Ruri's clash, but a good chance that we may get dragged into the third kidnapping mission that was available.

After all the Mitakihara Mall was the last known where abouts if I recall correctly.

"You may be wondering how, exactly, I achieved this new look. The answer is simple.
I died."
>>
>>25011646
Take a seat with her, order something, get her something.

While it's coming, ask how she's been, see if her friends and her have recovered, neutral.

Only start going to deep stuff after the coffee gets here and you can hold it with both hands, and take a swig if you need to stop an awkward moment.

This is good on Chiaki's part, it keeps her being quiet and listening until she can get the nerve to actually speak properly to Iori without spazzing out overly much instead of right away.

She already knows that our line of work is fucking dangerous, though. She saw first-hand our ability to murder the ever-loving SHIT out of people when we killed those rapists, and when we got her out of Kilgore's place.
And she was there when we retired Kirika and lost an arm, as well as when we got it back from QB.
We explained to her that we're in a dangerous business, one that she has no place in, and furthermore, that our relationship was strictly professional, that of a bodyguard and her principal.

We already went over all of that.
So we shouldn't retread all of that, especially when we're in the middle of a damn rumor mill staffed by her peers, and most likely in some cases, rivals who stand to gain from her public embarrassments.
>>

Other than going over the same points in a more polite tone, I really am at a loss as to what to do.

Just, hm...

Small talk, followed by the "I died" comment and "I've had a lot of time to think on this. I realize now that I wasn't very civil the last time we talked, but what I said is still true. I would be glad if we could be friends but I cannot return your feelings. I'm sorry."

Noir is one thing but when even a whiney bitch like iori was very happy for the party to see her fellow idols as they don't meet often anymore. The original im@s backstory should be intact and that the 765 idols are still very closeknit.
>>
>>25011886
But this isn't Idolm@ster.
This is a semi-neo-noir, in the style of Blade Runner.
Without actually meeting and getting to know these other idols, who may not even be from 765 Productions, we can't trust them.
>>
We can make small-talk and inquire about her life/friends now, then get her alone after a little while. Apologize for being so standoffish and not considering her feelings earlier, explain that we were not used to treating people all that well, then calmly explain that even though we think she's great, we're not really suited for each other, and make sure she understands that even though there might be some mutual attraction, we're not letting her down just because it would be too hard, or too dangerous, but because we genuinely want to just stay friends and not go any further.

You manage to work up a small half-smile as she continues to stumble around her words. She must have expected something completely different. Not that you blame her, of course - you've only been gone for half a month or so at least. People don't usually show up after that with hair down to their ass cheeks and eyes that don't look out of place in some ninja anime.

You ask her if if it's really that bad, your new look. It wasn't like you could do anything about it - workplace accident, plain and simple. Her brow furrows at this, in the same look of disbelief that you often get when you try to explain something magical girl-related to someone outside the industry - and it's then that she shakes her head, blushing again.

"A-ah, no, Chiaki-san! No, it doesn't look bad at all, honest! It's...it's just..." She gestures vaguely to you, then to her own hair. "I mean, it took me the best part of a year to just get it to this length, and even then I had to use extensions to add volume...n-not to mention all the treatments I had to go to! But yours, it's..." She shakes her head, again, an embarrassed smile on her lips. "H-haha, I'm babbling here, aren't I? I'm...I'm sorry, Chiaki-san, but it's just really so good to see you again, and...and looking quite dashing, I have to say!" Iori is all but gushing now, looking at you with nothing less than admiration.

You nod at this, and after a long moment of her looking up at you expectantly, you murmur something about looking...pretty, as well.

"Really...?" Iori seems to freeze up at this, cheeks going absolutely red. She looks down, as if finding her shoes suddenly interesting. "A-ah, um, thank you, Chiaki-san..."

>>
>>25012462

The both of you stand awkwardly once more, while the rest of the coffee shop's customers continue to look on. Iori thankfully snaps out of it quickly enough, however. "Oh, where are my manners-- please, Chiaki-san, sit down! The waiter will be arriving in a little while to take your order, and please don't worry about it, it's my treat!"

You were just about to say that it'll be your treat, but it doesn't look like she'll accept that kind of answer, right now. You resort to murmuring your thanks, and just like she said, the waiter came around a few moments after you've both taken your seats. You ordered a Blacker Than The Blackest Black Times Infinity black coffee, no sugar. You also order Kumatora's coffee shake, and request that the waiter deliver the drink personally - after all, the car is parked right there next to the sidewalk, in front of the shop itself. The waiter nods at this, and once more you are left alone with Iori, the silence between the both of you deafening.

...This would go over better, really, if it didn't have such a heavy atmosphere. You find yourself wishing that you chose the meeting place, instead.

You break the silence between the both of you, again, as you wait for your coffee to be served. You ask her how she's been, while you were away. You also ask her about her friends, if they're shaping up alright after the gala. Careful not to say anything too...revealing about your work. There were still other people who had no idea that magical girls existed, after all.

"Oh. I've...I've been fine, Chiaki-san! Like I told you, things have been peaceful since then, and they're doing quite well as far as I know. And, well, um..." Iori gestures to her costume. "We're currently trying to practice as much as we can before Kirishima Ruri-san's concert. It's really short notice, and we're not all that happy about it, but it's a huge undertaking all the same so we're doing our best."

It sounds rough, in any case. Aren't there rules about that sort of thing? Isn't it bad form to just request help from another production agency in such short notice?

Iori nods. "It's usually frowned upon, Chiaki-san, but like I said, it's a really big concert. They're getting help from the other production agencies besides ours, and...well, it's really big publicity. They're pushing it as the 'Concert of the Century', where all the idols sing in one voice, with Kirishima Ruri-san leading the choir." She smiles, a somewhat brittle one, but a smile all the same. "So many people are attending, they've actually changed venues from the Mitakihara Mall convention center to Mitakihara Stadium!"

. . .Well. That does sound huge. You wish her luck with it, in any case.

"Hee. I'll need it, thank you, Chiaki-san." Iori's smile is now one of genuine warmth. "Um, well, in any case..." She ventures forward as the waiter arrives with your coffee, the mug stylized to look like a skull with molded hair shaped like a helmet, and what appears to be a triangular mustache bisected in the middle. "May...may I ask about what happened, really, during your...office trip?" The idol must also have been reminded by Mami not to talk directly about Officio matters. "Did...did it hurt, Chiaki-san, when you had that workplace accident...?"

How do you respond?

Might not be a good idea to give her anything else to focus on other than Chiaki. Don't want to give her another target; even if she doesn't turn into a meguca, she still has more money than sense. I suppose that could work, but we really don't have the numbers needed to cover the entire venue, and Iori might question why we're sticking so close to Kirishima if we're supposed to be handling the entire concert.

By saying that we got assigned to the Kirishima detail, it'll make her more understanding of why we're sticking so close to Kirishima, and why we can't talk with her much, if at all, during the duration of the contract.

Well, okay. Iori's attraction to Chiaki is quite blatant, and even the most innocent of comments about a fellow idol's romantic pursuit could travel far and wide in the industry. Ruri must have specifically requested for Chiaki for a reason, after all, and if not because she assumes that the Warmaster would be the best at the job, then this is certainly possible.

Guys, we really should ask Mami to set a Meguca or two on digging into Ruri's background and current work relations.
Also, >>25012929 is right.
Our past two protection details had the mundane security compromised and turn out to be the actual enemy.
It might annoy QB, but I think we should request heavy Eversor support hidden throughout the crowds, in addition to ourselves on Ruri and the secondary security team on Iori.

Actually, in addition to >>25012648
include "So are there any other idols from your production company going to be there? Or just you?"
I know it's not our job to do Sales work, but maybe we should suggest to QB that he contact the other production companies, at the very least 765, for greater protection given how idols have been targeted more frequently in recent months.

It DOES seem like a good idea to get a little digging done on Ruri, despite all the possibly-unnecessary shadowruns everywhere. This DOES legitimately seem kind of fishy, and it probably can't hurt. We probably have Callidus who specialize in this or something, too.
>>

>>
>>25012747

>>
>>25013139
You didn't explicitly. Just clarifying that, if we mention an assistant, we don't want to make it sound personal. Hell, I'd advise against "my...assistant" and go with "some quick thinking by a colleague." The use of the possessive "my" and a pause convey things that we really don't want to convey.
>>
>>25013139
Actually, Callidus are rare. I remember QB saying that not only are they rare and hard to get (maybe not as hard as a Culexus), but that other Incubators don't make much use of them and so their numbers are very low.
We don't know how big the Callidus section is in the Ninth.

I don't recall this. The only direct support we're getting on the Kirishima detail is Sayaka, and we asked Mami for a second mixed team of Eversor and Vindicare for Iori.
I'm saying that since every security detail we've done for idols in the past 2 months (which admittedly is only 2), the mundane security that was supposed to be our backup turned out to be compromised, so we should have a third team of Eversors hidden where they can provide support to us and the second team if/when the mundane security turns on us.

>She JUST ANSWERED THIS
She said her production company is involved, not the exact idols. We need to know how many additional secondaries we need to worry about.

You tell Iori the truth, here, or as much of the truth that you believe you're allowed to tell her. It hurt, plainly speaking. It hurt in more ways than one. Two of your colleagues didn't make it. Interference from a third party. Options are currently being considered as to how the Officio will proceed. Besides that, well...you're here, aren't you? It's enough for you, at least.

"Ah, I...I see." A brief look of hurt and concern crosses Iori's features, and she reaches out with a hand to place over yours. For the briefest moment, you consider moving your hand away, but you find yourself allowing this to happen - feeling her soft fingers alight on your Soul Gem. "I'm...I'm very sorry to hear that, Chiaki-san. I...I don't really know what really happened, and I'm not going to pry, but...I'd like to think I know about losing a friend." She works up a smile for you. "If there's anything I can do..."

You shake your head. It's...fine. Wounds heal, in time, and the fact that you're still here, still alive, is enough of a solace for you. She doesn't need to worry about you - besides, there's always work to throw yourself into. You won't have enough time to dwell on things too much.

"I suppose so. But...if you do need someone to talk to, Chiaki-san, I'm always here, alright? Please don't hesitate to call on me whenever."

The chattering starts up again, more furtively and insiduous this time, and you clear your throat before nodding. What were you supposed to say then, just throw that offer back in her face or something? She was legitimately looking out for you. Whatever happened here, she was genuinely concerned for your safety and sanity, enough that she could say it in earshot of her...colleagues. You're not sure if that's at all kosher in the idol industry, but you could tell by the stares that there's plotting and scheming going on.

>with Kirishima Ruri-san leading the choir

Aww shit. This smells like a) a trap. Or b) like an incoming bloodbath.

After we are done we need to contact either QB or Mami to:

1) Investigate Ruri
2) Check our Officio Roster for availible Megucas that could be on Stand-By during the Event, if possible someone we know and with known expertise, we will probably need Back-Up for that.
3) Investigate if any bigwigs are somehow affilated to this event that had employed Megucas before, not only our Officio but rival officios too, if possible

Call me paranoid, but this time we won`t be catched flat-footed like with Kilgore.
>>
>>25013306

You use your free hand to finally grab the strange skull-mug by the handle, lifting it off the table and raising it to your lips for a careful sip. The coffee was still hot, but cooled down enough for you to be able to drink without being scalded.

. . .

Rat piss. It tastes like rat piss. You force yourself to swallow the mouthful completely. Spitting it somewhere comes to mind, but...Warmasters don't do that, do they?

In hindsight, you should have asked for sugar. It's nearly undrinkable. It's got a kick, but it tastes horrible.

"Anyway, um...what's this about Kirishima Ruri-san, anyway, Chiaki-san? Why the sudden interest?" Iori asks, leaning forward. You feel a subtle change in the air, as if the other idols looking on are doing the exact same thing. A tightening in the air's tension, where a dozen mouths held in bated breaths.

You glance at her, then back at the well-manicured, fancily-gloved hand on top of yours - and it's then that you place your mug down. Taking the Warmaster Cap that you've placed on your lap and setting it upon the table instead.

You might as well come clean, now, since she'll be finding out tomorrow anyway. You pull your hand slowly from underneath her hand - a gesture the idol doesn't miss at all - and tell her the truth.

You've been hired as security detail.

"...For the concert, Chiaki-san? Well, um, that's not that puzzling--"

Exclusively for Kirishima Ruri.

Iori's face seems to drain of all color, her eyes widening. "...An...exclusive security detail, Chiaki-san?" Iori squeaks. It takes her a certain amount of time to recover. "I...ah...um. Well. Is it...I..." Iori looks like she's at a complete loss on what to say. When she speaks again, there's an edge to her voice. "I...I had an inkling she'd try something like that, but I didn't really think she'd go through with it..."

...Does idol rivalry go to this kind of length? Did Ruri hire you in order to cuckold Iori, or something?

"Please elaborate. Everything about the Request Kirishima made sounds fishy."

Kirishima had now way of knowing that we would be Warmaster.
Yet she apparently has a History with Iori and the other Idols and requested a Warmaster before the Warmaster was officially initiated.

This is a Trap. Either by Ruri herself who might have a Golden Weapon or a Third Party is using her as a bait.
Since we still haven`t heard anything from the Saints since we are here and we killed already two of them, so I guess they are probably somehow involved.
>>
>>25013503
>the Pleiades Saints
You know, their Meguca uniforms wouldn't look out of place in an idol lineup.

And a stadium would make it difficult to get a good vantage point for Vindicare snipers, as well as making it easy to trap the target.

We really need to call Misaka to see if Tiny Pete will be ready by tomorrow night.
>>
>>25013503
>Kirishima had now way of knowing that we would be Warmaster.
You are right, she doesn't. Perhaps she still thinks Kharn is Warmaster.
I can see it. Idol gets a taste of Kharn, is left wanting more. Her schedule unfortunately keeps her away from Mitakihara. Finally she returns and wants more Kharn, so she demands 'the Warmaster' to guard her.
>>
>>25013503

She may have thought that Kharn was still the Warmaster... although given Chiaki's history with Iori, that would seem like too convenient of an excuse.

You narrow your eyes at this. If Iori's reaction to the news was anything to go by, then there has to be something that she's not telling you about the two of them. You should have expected this at the start - you don't know much about idols, admittedly, but even you know what kind of things people can do just to grab the top spot. It's almost comparable to the competitive world of Magical Girls - it's only that idols aren't really meant to kill each other if they disagree. At the very least, your kind has the room to be lethally honest. Idols apparently do shit like this, cloak-and-dagger, getting under each other's skin through underhanded means.

After letting Iori stew on her thoughts - the idol furiously sipping at the remains of her drink through a straw, creating that petulant sound of droplets being sucked into a vaccuum - you ask her about...well, her and Ruri. Was there something between the both of them? What would cause her to ask specifically for you for security detail? This reeks of something personal, or a grudge of some sort. Would it be possible for Ruri to be hiring you in order to get back at Iori?

"I..." Iori grits her teeth at this, before shaking her head. "It...it all started after...well, after what happened in the Hotel, Chiaki-san. A couple of days or so, after I started...um...rooming with you." The whispers grow a tiny notch louder at this, but fades soon away. "Kirishima Ruri-san started calling me, texting me, asking if I'm okay. It was...strange, since our production agencies aren't really in good terms, but I thought she wanted to be friends. We talked for a fair bit, and I even went shopping with her a couple of times. She helped me buy your maid outfit, too, if you remember that..."

Yes. You remember all too well. And then what happened?

"Well, um. I thought it'd just stay there, until she started asking about you specifically, Chiaki-san. I tried to tell her that it's none of her business, but she seems really interested in...well, you and your colleagues, sempai. Magical Girls. It seems she's familiar with them too, but you were the one she really asked a lot of questions about. I tried to answer them without revealing any important information, Chiaki-san, and I promise I didn't tell her anything confidential, but...she was really very curious."

She takes another sip from her now completely-empty cup, and places the container back onto the table. "She kept asking me about you until the gala. I...she stopped contacting me after that. T-then, um..." It's then that Iori's face pales once more. "Ruri called me up one night. Asked me that if I...if I didn't forget about you and stop trying to make you mine, she'd steal you from me, Chiaki-san. And I wouldn't be able to do anything about it."

. . .Seriously? That's what she said?

As I stared down three of the most dangerous people in the Eighth, the only thing I felt was...a deep calm. A sense of purity. Like...for one of the only times in my life, I’d really, truly done something right. Three sets of eyes were fixed on me with a burning, almost painful intensity. Three bodies tensed as time stood still.

“...If yer gonna shit on us, at least open yer fucking eyes.” Mary Sue Springfield. The older of the Springfield Sisters, the two girls chosen on sight by the Demon in the Garden of Madness, Warmaster Marigold. A rising star in the Vindicares, and one of the magical girls that enlisted about when I did. They said she could pick up a handgun and make a snap-shot at a fly three hundred yards away and nail it every time. Asked her to show me once. She called me a pussy for ‘pickin’ a faggot gun’ and did it with a huge fuckoff revolver instead. Same revolver I was going to be facing down any second now.

“...I trusted you, Wendy. What the fuck.” Annie May Springfield. Mary Sue’s younger sister. One of the Officio’s top Eversors, and Miss Marigold’s spiritual successor. Always had an air of nonchalance to her, but when Annie got serious...when Annie was serious, she’d tear someone’s throat out with her teeth for the sheer violence of it. Whole world around her turned into a bloody Hell that made my worst nightmares look like... ...made them look like some of my better nightmares. ...Not as squeamish as most people.

...The two of them together are almost as frightening as Ol’ Batshit. Even I was a little worried, and until about two seconds ago, we’d been best friends.

I'm going against the grain here, but I'd rather let it go right now, and because I'd rather talk it over with Iori in a place where we're not the center of idol attention.
They're all actively listening to us, so this isn't a good place for this kind of conversation.
>>
>>25014006
...Then there was the third. Amber ‘Magical Guro’ Nakajima, whose smile had turned chilling; her yellow eyes devoid were completely of warmth, and they had an unnatural glow that may have even rivaled Annie’s. Amber was a story we told the FNGs even before she contracted at gunpoint a couple of months ago. Used to be an assassin, and one of the handful of normal humans with the balls to hunt magical girls. Had a reputation for cutting them up. Keeping them alive for days, so she could see how we worked. Never stopped smiling, either. ...Eightball’s got a thing for crazy bitches.

I took a long drag on my cigarette, relishing the tension in the air. I could hear both of the Springfield sisters’ hands on their revolvers as I opened my mouth to speak. To explain what had just happened.

Ron. All terminals. Three dora. With Riichi, that’s-

A gunshot rang out, then another. Then a lot more. I kicked away from the table instinctively as my side of it got the everloving hell shot out of it by .45-caliber bullets. The Springfield Sisters moved in perfect time, each blasting away six of the tiles I’d set out in front of me.

“Well now, I thought you needed thirteen tiles in your hand, Wendy. I only see one, ‘n the one you took from me.” Annie smirked down at me, then blew on the barrel of her gun with entirely needless showmanship before tucking it back into her jeans.

“Don’t even know how ta play Chinese Poker.” And across the table, Mary clicked her tongue, doing the same with a little shake of her head. The two exchanged a look, then leaned in to fist-bump.

Nakajima’s eyes narrowed. Recognized the look, from the few times I’d hung around her for more than a couple of minutes. Something had just clicked in her head. She stood up a little bit, then leaned in, all the way over the table, snatching Annie’s tile away from the shattered remains of my side. She slipped it in with her other tiles, then flipped the whole thing onto the table at once, giggling.

“Ron!”

Is 2nd actually the most dangerous of all the missions?
>>
>>25014019
Game night became a weekly Alpha Team tradition, eventually. A way to blow off stress from a week of Ol’ Batshit’s extensive gardening/murder regimen. Wasn’t actually any of Alpha Team’s idea, though; Nakajima came up with it, probably because she was bored. She joined the Eversors right after she contracted, but her reputation – and presumably her on-the-job methods – put anyone off from working with her after about a mission. Started hanging around Alpha Team, since Annie and Mary were the ones that brought her in. Guess you could say she was our fourth member, though Miss Marigold didn’t have any interest in training her. Said she could tell at a glance Nakajima was low-blooded, or something.

We just don’t ask questions when Miss Marigold talks, most of the time. It’s all flowers and crazy incomprehensible Southern bullshit.

...Mahjong was the first thing we tried to play, but it didn’t go over well. I picked it up watching Triads back when I’d just joined the Officio, and I didn’t explain it all that well. Figured Annie’s inner Japanophile would kick in and help, but she didn’t seem to have a good grasp of it either. Poker went a little better, but Nakajima got bored with how much you don’t actually play when you’re playing poker. ...Probably didn’t help that Mary kicked all of our asses at it pretty handily. Mario Kart ended up as a competition between Annie and Nakajima every time we’d pick it up, and Monopoly...

We don’t talk about Monopoly. Fuck Monopoly.

(4/5)
>>
>>25014029
...They were still good times, though. Even if we couldn’t find anything that was fair, exactly. Ended up in a couple of fistfights, but every week, it was a few hours of screwing around with...with my best friends, I guess. Doing normal things. ...Something I hadn’t done in a very long time.

Eventually more people started to join up. Crazy bitches Eightball found. Girls that couldn’t work in normal units. We’d invite them to screw around with us on game night, and slowly, we got to know each other. ...Kind of found each other for missions. Other outcasts to watch our backs. Guess I’d had Annie and Mary since just a couple of weeks after I joined, but...

...We all knew what it was like to be alone. And none of us would have wished it on anyone.

"No. No she won`t. I´m pretty sure I can come up with a bunch of reasons why she is interested in me and none of those have anything to do with love or lust. I won`t fall for her.

That said, Iori, I want us to be on the same page regarding that. You are my Employer and you are my friend. And I would prefer if we stayed friends, if possible."

I think this pretty clear without ourright telling her in her face that we don`t love her around all the other idols.

I also have the sneaking suspicion that the Rape-Otaku-Incident wasn`t some shitty thing that just happened. I mean, come on, how exactly would some shitty Otakus compromise Hotel Security? Why did we never investigate that? You need some sort of wealth to do that. They were paid to pull that shit. How to better ruin an Idol than fucking rape her and get the Rapevids in Television or the Internet.

The world of idols in noir truly is a terrifying one. And not so different from our live after all.

This Marigold character sounds very intriguing. And powerful as fuck.

For the benefit of those who don't follow me on twitter or check my pastebin, and for the sake of completion, here's the second half of chapter 5.

***

Meanwhile, in a darkened room lit only by the glow of a dozen screens, the Seventeenth incubator sat and watched the ensuing scene. The rotund incubator looked less like a cat or animal, as most of his brothers did, and more akin to a clear sack of flour with legs stretched just a bit past its limit. He was so large, in fact, that his enormous girth nearly covered the entirety of the pillow that had been placed atop his desk. The twin prehensile appendages known as the trademark of the Incubators hung limp from his cheeks, just above his mouth, giving the impression that he had an enormous moustache.

The monitor placed directly in front of him showed the confrontation between Tyler and Fredrica, while the one directly right of it displayed only a black screen with bright white text reading "V1 - Sound Only".

"Would those two just get it over with and fuck already?" Holly groaned over the speakers, the sound of typing in the distant background. "See boss, I told you this would happen. I told you! But nope, didn't listen! It's only a matter of time now.”

"I am grateful that you have brought this incident to my attention, Miss Corbin. I'm beginning to understand why my brothers add such violations of privacy to their contracts. However, I hardly believe this fulfils the conditions of your prediction.”

"Seriously? I just don't understand you, bossman," the Vanus sighed. "You spend millions on a state of the art prediction engine, and then when it tells you something SERIOUS, you don't listen."

"Miss Corbin, I am simply taking into account the variables of the human mind," the incubator paused, blinking its crimson eyes as the tape rewound itself and played again. "I apologize if it seems I am disregarding your predictions, but you yourself admitted how outlandish they sounded."
>>
"Has it ever been wrong?" The vanus asked, her voice, for once, coming off as stern and cold.

"Miss Cor-"

"Has it ever been wrong?" She asked again, adding more strength to her voice.

"There is a first for everything.” The incubator's gaze seemed to wander for a moment before snapping back to the monitors. “I apologize, that was rude."

The Seventeenth had always been noted for being far more polite than any of his brothers. He was one of the few who treated his charges with utmost respect, believing this to be the key to optimal results. It had become a running joke among the girls of the Seventeenth - and select other Officios - that Fubey was only doing his best to act more Canadian.

"It's fine, Foob," Holly grumbled indignantly. "You want to ignore the prediction engine, fine by me. See if I care."

"Miss Corbin, I meant no disrepect and I sincerely apologize. However, you understand exactly what sort of measures would need to be taken should your prediction prove correct," the incubator shifted his gaze to the second screen, as if using it to look directly at the Vanus. "Our organization can not afford mobilization of that calibre on a hunch.”

"Ninety-nine point six repeating, Fubey. That's no hunch. I think a point three-four percent chance of failure is an acceptable risk when the fate of the entire Officio is at stake."

"Perhaps," the incubator nodded as his words flowed out into the air. "Perhaps."
>>
With a distinct thump, Fubey rolled himself off the desk and disappeared underneath it. "If I may be so bold as to seek your counsel once more," he began, "what do feel should become of our Miss Volk? As Miss Argente said, it does not bode well for her promotion."

The vanus thought for a moment, leaving only the sound of fingers on keys emanating from the speakers. "I say we just send the video to Odette and leave it to her. Either that or put her on an assignment with Tyler. Make them buddy-cop it up."

"Goodness, I was unaware that you held such animosity for Miss Volk," the incubator replied as he emerged from beneath his desk, riding proud and tall on his Roomba, his fluffy tail swishing back and forth as he clutched the remote in his prehensile moustache.

"Are you- Do I hear-"

"I really must thank the warmaster for her gift. It is most useful."

"She spoils you," the Vanus groaned. She could almost hear the satisfaction in the incubator's voice. "This is why you're so fat. We keep saying you need to go on a diet."

"Incubators are neither fat nor thin and do not require organic sustenance. This is simply the figure which nature has seen fit to bestow upon me."

Hearing that remark, Holly couldn't hold back her laughter any longer. It came out long and hard as she wheezed out a few choice words. "The only thing bestowed upon you is a few too many Timbits, Chubby!"

Later that day, Odette stood outside of the First Canadian Place, leaning against Sleepy Sue and glaring at her cellphone. Fredrica nervously shifted in place in front of her, twiddling her thumbs and fidgeting with the hems of her suit top.

"You want to explain this?" Odette asked, showing Freddy her phone.

The black-haired girl watched nervously as the earlier encounter with Tyler played out before her in all of its glory. She flinched when the two held pulled their weapons and held them to each other's throats and cringed at her own exit.

"I was just, y'know, standing up for yo-"

"Is that so?" Odette interrupted. Her words seethed with rage. If she could, Freddy would have turned tail and run that very moment. "YOU were standing up for ME?"

"Well, yeah, I mean-"

"Are you saying I can't stand up for myself, Freddy?" Odette asked, taking a step closer.

"No! Never!"

"Then why are you trying so hard to defend me, Freddy?" The one-eyed girl asked as she took another step.

"I- I meant no disrespect, warmas-" Freddy caught herself a moment too late. Her eyes shot open in a mixture of shock and fear. "I- I didn't mea-"

She barely even saw Odette move before the shorter girl's hand grabbed her by the collar and pulled Freddy down to eye level. "Listen, jackass," Odette hissed, "because of you, now I have to go and apologize to that cunt. I have to go and clean up YOUR goddamn mess. I have to apologize to the BITCH who TOOK. MY. EYE. Is that what you wanted?"

The former warmaster had a knack for being far more intimidating than anyone her size had any right to be. Freddy could see the fire in her single eye. A chill went up her spine as she noticed the sudden plunge in temperature. The panicking Eversor was suddenly aware that she could see her own breath as the smaller girl's iron grip held her in place. She knew all too well exactly how close Odette was to dragging her into a dark alley and making her wish she could just give up and die.
>>
"I'll do it!" Freddy pleaded. "I promise! I'll do it myself! I'll apologize and grovel and everything! I just wanted to make you happy!"

A sly grin crept across the shorter girl's face. In that instant, Fredrica Volk realized exactly to what degree she had misjudged the other girl. She'd panicked and fallen right into her trap. This was the true nature of an angry Odette.

"Then do it," the one-eyed girl said, holding out her cellphone. "Right now."

"Ri- Right now?"

"Right now," Odette ordered as she began to navigate the device's various menus. "I'll even find her number for y-"

Odette blinked. Her eyes went wide. There was no way...

"Odette?" The black-haired Eversor called out. "You okay?"

It wasn't possible. It SHOUDLN'T have been possible.

The one-eyed girl's mouth hung open. "Oh my god. I am such an idiot."

"What is it?"

Odette shook her head. She didn't want to believe it, but there it was. Staring her in the face. With a pair of unmistakeable dark brown eyes and a long mane of hair that looked as though it had never seen a brush in its life.

"Fennel Vance," she muttered. "I met her yesterday."

"That's," Freddy blinked and wrinkled her brow, "that's impossible. She went missing nearly two weeks ago."

The silver-haired girl nodded. It was a sheer coincidence that she'd accidentally opened up the list of missing girls again. She'd always been terrible with faces. She knew that she knew them, she just couldn't figure out where from. Her voice was muted as she murmured out a simple question.

"So then what was she doing here?"

Alright guys, we've got 4 more pages to think this through, now that we're not trying to get our posts in before Decu starts writing.

Yes, Iori ended up creating an opportunity for us.
But consider these items:
1. we're still in the middle of a group of gossiping idols, who are actively trying to listen in on us.
2. Our rejection is still likely to result in crying on the part of Iori

Waiting till we're away from all of these idols before we break Iori's heart a second time would be better for her.
>>
>>25014219
Is she? When we called Mami while we were in Siberia, we heard someone else in bed with her.
>>
>>25014302
I'm more inclined to think about this will affect her in the upcoming concert. Wonder if we're on a path for her bad end here.
>>
>>25014302
There is no way that a rejection won`t involve crying.
>>
>>25014302

It definitely feels a little cold blooded to just take this opportunity as is.

>>25014341

It will definitely involve crying, but there's no reason to shame her in front of her friends either.
>>
>>25014363
>Nicehatguy
Well, are you going to change your vote?
You still have a chance to change it before this thread falls off the board.
>>
>>25014339
This is a good point. We should wait until after the concert, or after the Ruri contract ends, to cut her off.

>>25014341
Unless we make it smooth. And private. What I DO NOT want is having her rebounding to Garcia after the rejection. I'd rather have her killed. By us.
>>
>>25014388

Well, I don't think we can get a better opportunity than this one. It's unlikely that Iori has any more information on Ruri at this point.

I just hope Chiaki will have some common sense and pull Iori aside for a moment or something.

...Yeah, too much to hope.

Shut up.
>>
>>25014393
What's wrong with having her rebounding to Garcia? It gets her out of our life and puts her into the somewhat safe hands of Garcia and his maid SWAT team.

>>

Really, it's the kinder thing to do. If she hates us for doing it in front of all the idols, she might not turn up at the concert, which is likely to become a bloodbath.

Given how important this is for her and for her company, that's really unlikely.
And the gossip wouldn't stay within the idols; if it got out to the Internet then it could damage her career.
>>
>>25014010

I'm very very very late, but lets do this. We don't want to make a scene here.
>>
>>25014426
She wouldn't be happy with him. She's not happy with him right now.
Remember that date she was going to have with him? And how quickly she cancelled it for us?
There ARE worse things than being our lover, and it's being his.
>>
>>25014732

>>
I think the best option is to let Iori down now, under this intense pressure. It will be good practice for Pinky
>>
>>25014418
>Chiaki will have some common sense and pull Iori aside for a moment or something.
Yeah, no. Not likely.
If you vote for clearing the air now, it's getting done now.

>>25014732
I don't think she cancelled the date with Garcia; that's a dinner date, and this is just after lunch.
>>
>>25014800
>under this intense pressure
But it's not the pressure, it's the consequences of doing it now versus doing it in private.
I agree it has to get done today, but I don't think that rejecting Iori in public, in the middle of her peers, is the right place or time to do it.
>>
Question about the after-quest write-ups. Are they cannon (as cannon as quest can be) or do they have no relation to the quest we are playing and are just a bits of fan-fiction of... someone. Who writes them anyway? Is it just one guy or different people? Is it Deculture under different name?
>>
>>25014964
I can confirm that Wendy Cooldown and FOR SURE archivalfag are not decu

I think they're extra worldbuilding that won't get anywhere near us

>I think they're extra worldbuilding that won't get anywhere near us

I just want to know if those things are happening in Decu's setting and quest. I never read them before the last thread when Deculture referenced the writeup in his last post.
If they are just fanfics made by other people, I don't see any reason to read them but if they are actually incorporated into the setting then they are worth.

Also, do the writes first let Decu read them and then post them or do they just post them without making sure they fit into Deculture's story?
>>
>>25015234
They are canon, and I do ensure deculture reads it before posting. I'm fairly sure that Wendy does the same.
>>
>>25015234
>but if they are actually incorporated into the setting then they are worth.
We know that elements of the Eighth Officio, such as Smooth Alabama Liquid Snake and Wendy Cooldown have been referenced and mentioned in the main plot (their panties, and the gift given to Sayaka).
Also, Chiaki did actually meet Wendy, who even said that she'd pitch in and help when we mentioned that Mami was in danger.

I see. Thanks.

Id there a way to access those stories chronologically without going back to all the threads and searching them?

I'd post Wendy's pastebin but she seems to have them all set to unlisted.
>>
>>25015340

Twitter? Archival posts pastebin copies of the write-ups stories on his Twitter. Wendy does the same, but the Wendy stories aren't chronological order.

https://twitter.com/archivalfag
https://twitter.com/WendyCooldown
>>
>>25015384
That's because the Wendy stories sometimes relate to happenings in the thread
A good example is us discovering Wendy's panties in Kharn's treasure trove and then finding out how they came to be there
>>
>>25015373
>>25015384

Right, thanks.
>>
>>25015426

Yeah, I noticed that. I just brought it up since anon asked for the stories chronologically and the Wendy write-ups aren't in order.

Well, I suppose one could try to put them in order, but it's a hassle, hahaha.

But it's easy to note that today's Wendy write-up mentioned another Warmaster before Mary TASALS, so I guess this would be before all the others.
>>
Went and unlocked all the other listings. Didn't really think about anyone wanting to see the whole thing, haha. My pastebin's http://pastebin.com/u/WendyCooldown (all my user stuff is pretty easy)

Everything in the writeups I do has been run by decu beforehand and is canon, but it's not in chronological order/a coherent story form because I'm ADD as hell and can only get about three pages of a thing out before my brain turns to pudding.
>>
>>25015690
Also at some point I'll probably sit and put everything in a timeline or something, or start numbering them so it's easier.

I do recommend you pay attention, though. This will eventually be on the test.
>>
One more thing that I think bears mentioning:
The idols that are listening in on us now; they've pretty much gotten the entire conversation. Their whispering even got louder when Iori mentioned rooming with us.

They are filing away this conversation, anything and everything we say can and will be used against Iori.
In >>25013306
the whispering intensified as soon as Iori offered to be a confidante.

If we reject her publicly then that's something even better that they'd be able to use against Iori.
An idol looking for friendship and comfort in another girl? Scandalous.
Said idol being rejected, rather than the other way around? Career destroying rumors acquired. Because in the former situation of "How Lewd", an idol could beg forgiveness from her fans and colleagues for not being the pillar of purity that their carefully crafted image is supposed to be.
But in the latter, she didn't even measure up, and was rejected.

I really think it's important that when we do friendzone Iori, that it be done in private.
