You are a Magical Girl, and like the mixed-signal sending idiot that you've always been, you've just indirectly confessed to your subordinate.

A subordinate who, it must be said, had jumped willingly into two overlapping hells, made friends with an insane eldritchian nightmare, shouted down a bloodthirsty maniac and finally died - to save your worthless amnesiac corpse of a shell. A subordinate whose knees you shot out with a desert eagle made out of pure madness, after cold-bloodedly murdering her employers. A subordinate who's made a healthy sideline drawing porn of you - or at least, a character heavily based on your looks and personality.
>>
>>24991467

...Maybe confession was too strong a word for it. You just bought her the wrong boxed lunch by mistake, after all. You just wanted to bring her lunch before the infirmary's well-meaning nurses brought along their tasteless, colorless meals. You brought her the meal that the girls of your Officio considered a polite, shy way of revealing their true feelings to their friends and comrades. The Waifu Special, a boxed lunch that was gaudy as it was unsubtle. Its ingredients shaped like hearts, its case plastered with the romantic iconography. All that was missing from it was a bouquet of flowers and chocolates to really ram the point home.

You can probably blame the fucking hat for this, the symbol of office that declared you the Warmaster of the Ninth Officio. The damnable hat that's been making everyone around you act weirdly, even yourself. You're still not sure what kind of magic enchanted the thing to do so, if it did have any magic enchanting it at all. But as much as you can't help but think that it's just a stupid hat, you also can't deny the coincidence of those events happening while you wore it.

Currently, your aide - Hanegawa Midori, Callidus - is looking up at you in stunned silence. The lunch open at her lap, showing off its contents. Her cheeks the most red it's ever been. You don't even need to guess what she's thinking about, or the conclusion she's jumping into.

...You wish you could hate Kharn to death.

She'll pay for this, one way or another.

You manage to avert your gaze from Midori, completely at a loss at what to say. You try to start something - anything - but an incomprehensible jumble of words tumble out from your lips, making you feel as awkward as you did just a few minutes earlier, when you had to endure the stares of the entire cafeteria.

[1/2]
>>
>>24991467
>Another MGNQ so soon

Jesus man.
>>
>>24991469

Even that was a puzzle. You've never felt like that before, not to your memory. Apathy was something inbred in you - you didn't really care what other people thought of you, only a few had that kind of consideration.

You'd been gawked at and stared at before, but it never really got to you, not in the way that it did in the cafeteria. Was it being in the sudden limelight, the sudden center of attention, by the same people you've always despised? You certainly never thought much of them, even if you worked underneath the same Incubator. What was so different now that you would have stood there like a stuttering idiot had the hat not been in your possession then?

You shake your head at this. Maybe...maybe Mami would know. You remind yourself to ask her, later, when she stops over at your apartment. Maybe she can help you make sense of things.

At that comforting thought, you manage to finally murmur a coherent answer to Midori's silent, questing gaze. An answer that didn't really answer the question as much as it tried to redirect it. You told her about...well, her now-impending mission with Sakura Kyoko.

Midori takes a few moments to reply at this, blinking at you slowly, dreamily, before seemingly snapping out of her reveries in a flinch. "O-oh! Ah, yes, sempai, I know about that. Miss Kyoko came around earlier. Nearly woke up the entire floor with the racket she was making!"

She looks down at her lunch, a small smile curling her lips. "She's really very energetic, isn't she, sempai? Anyway, um, she did tell me that you had me assigned to help her with mission to...look for someone. That's what I remember." Midori nods.

[2/3]
>>
>>24991475

Yes, that's pretty much it. You let out the breath you've been holding. So far so good. And she probably shouldn't call the Eversor with that kind of apellation - it's just Kyoko, plain and simple.

"That's what Miss Kyoko--er, Kyoko told me, sempai." Midori grins. "Ah, she also told me that she can wait for me to be discharged tomorrow before she officially starts the mission proper. I told her that it's fine if I got myself discharged today, but she was really insistent..." She shakes her head. "Is that alright, sempai? I mean, we are delaying the mission start..."

Of course it's fine. You wave a hand as if to brush the matter way. You're Warmaster now. Anything you say fucking goes.

Midori giggles at that. "I...I guess so, sempai. I...thank you for the assignment, too. I was...I was a bit worried it'd be just like the Tenth, again. I was relieved to find out that I'd just be looking for someone, now, and not tricking them into believing that something horrible isn't going to be done to them."

The Ninth's really more of a direct kind of Officio, but you've never heard of Kyuubey asking anyone in his employ to do something like that. Extortion, sure. Kidnapping, maybe. Assassinations and purges? Bread and butter. But nothing like that.

"...That's...thank you, sempai. I'll keep it in mind."

You brush her thanks away, and tell her to eat before she gets an ulcer.

"Hah. Alright. I'll...I'll try to eat, at least." She giggles, here. "But it looks so cute, I don't think I can even bring myself to take a bite, sempai!"

You take a seat on the edge of the bed, before reaching out and snatching the pink packed lunch - and its equally pink chopsticks - from Midori's hands. Quick as a flash, you take a bite of the perfectly-molded rice, inadvertently tearing one of the salmon hearts in half. Chewing quickly and swallowing, you place the lunch back in her lap. stunning her for the second time in a row.

There, you've ruined it for her. Now she doesn't need to feel bad about it. Or do you have to feed her yourself to get her to eat something?

Midori blushes beet red again. "Ah, uh, sempai, I'm--"

You cut off her sentence by doing just that. ...Well, it didn't go as neatly as you wanted to, with a bit of rice sticking to the corner of her lips, but the look of utter surprise on her face as she starts chewing the mouthful you'd slipped into her mouth with the chopsticks is priceless. Maybe just a bit cute.

. . .

And so it begins, Midori's strange lunch with the Warmaster of the Ninth. You're pretty sure this isn't how it's supposed to go - you remember Kharn lounging around in the common room, somewhere, reading a book while a few blonde-haired Eversors fed her seedless grapes - but it doesn't seem to be that awkward. Midori, thankfully, is quiet, not ruining the moment by stuttering nervously or offering half-hearted denials - just allowing you to feed her. Although she did blush harder each time she had to open her mouth for you.

...You couldn't help yourself from doing the old switcheroo trick, where you make to feed her but swing the chopsticks around to feed yourself instead. This got you a few pouts, although you could tell she smiled each time you looked down to at the lunch to take another portion.

[1/2]
>>
>>24991912

It's then that you break the comfortable silence, here, by telling her about your impending haircut, later tonight. You told her that you'd asked Mami for help about your ludicrously-long hair - and she'd volunteered to trim it for you. Midori blinks at this as she chews, and nods as she swallows.

"A-ah. I see. That's...that's nice, sempai." The Callidus smiles, and while she's trying to hide it, the note of disappointment is clear in her voice. "If anyone knows how to do anyone's hair, it's probably Mami-san's. Getting delicate curls like that perfect every time - that's nothing to be sneezed at, you know!"

...But didn't she want to style your hair first, before you had it cut off?

"That's...that's fine, sempai. I can just wait until you grow it back out." She offers you another smile, a bit more natural this time. "Besides, that's really the problem with long hair - it's the reason I try to tie it off as much as I can, see?" She tugs at her own ribbon. "At least, most of it, so it's not as hot..."

Ah. Well. Hmm. If she's sure. But you can't help but notice that you may have disappointed her a bit.

[-50 MIDORI POINTS]

What's done is done, though. You try to keep the conversation going - with the packed lunch halfway done - by asking her what she was drawing, earlier, when you came in.

"O-oh, um. Well." Midori seems to blush again at this. "I...just some new character sketches I was thinking about adding to the roster, sempai. But it's nothing worth showing, really, it's really messy, too..."

You'll be the judge of that. You ask her to show it, and after some hesitation, she does so.

There are two characters here, drawn side by side. The first is a pink-haired girl with rather cute twintails. Her Magical Girl costume - or at least, it looks like one - is what can conceivably happen if a bavarian maid costume and a tutu had too many drinks and fucked on the couch. She's smiling toothily, waving around a staff that looked less of a magical focal device and more of a brutal spiked maul. Magical Mimico, or at least that's what was written underneath her.

The other is a taller, more slender Magical Girl. Long black hair fell from her scalp, down to the back of her knees. Her hands and feet a familiar brutal, clawed sort, but where the obvious inspiration wore something a bit more chaste and reminiscient of a soldier's uniform, this one wore...well. The sort of costume that you'd find in really specialized clubs, the sort with leather and whips and all that. She was even licking a riding crop with a tongue that brought to mind a slender pink tentacle. Horns, curved and slender, jutted out from her scalp, and great leathery bat's wings folded behind her. Her name, Kalashnikova Varya, had an underlined nickname underneath it - "She Who Thirsts".

. . .Yep. Yeah, that's...pretty much spot on.

"How is it, sempai?" Midori looks at you expectantly.

While all of the Midori interactions so far have been pretty adorable, keep in mind that Pinky is always watching. While she's agreed to play fair as far as Chiaki is concerned, that does not mean that she won't be ridiculously green with envy // uncooperative when we meet her again.
>>
>>24992320
Despite them being perfectly edible if peeled and sliced, most people dislike broccoli stalks. The heads (or florets) are the preferred part for consumption.

It's obvious, isn't it?

Midori will attempt to incorporate many healthy green vegetables in Chiaki's diet in an attempt to keep her as healthy as possible!
>>
>>24992305

Nah, didn't mean it had to be a planned decision like that. Well, obviously it's a planned decision for me, but Chiaki can just be her usual grumpy self now only to relent later. It doesn't have to be a conscious choice for her, haha.

>>

Yeah, this. As players, I kind of feel like we're pretty much racing to a Midori end on a stunt motorcycle. And both in terms of "what makes a good relationship" and "what makes a good story", we don't REALLY need to be banging her before the halfway point.

In terms of meta, while it may not be within Chiaki to play hard to get, we might be forgetting that just with her morose and loner personality(as much as some of that has ebbed away), as well as after her last crush went Kenshirou on her, she might not exactly be rushing to jump into a relationship anyway.
>>
>>24992481
FUCKING TIMESTOP
>>
>>24992474
This might honestly be worth trying, not just out of the slim, slim chance for a watermelon end, but if just to do anything to make Pinky less liable to randomly murder the shit out of our main squeeze.

The drawings are fine. Suggest her she can make another versionof her doujin series, one based on more real facts. Like a diary of sorts.

You stare at Midori for a while - longer, admittedly, than either of you were comfortable with - and when she finally breaks the stare, murmuring your name, it's then that you reach over and flick her forehead with your middle finger. Putting enough force into it that she immediately squeals in pain, one hand coming up to rub the spot.

"Sempai, that...that hurt!" The Callidus mumbles, eyes tearful. "What....what was that for?!"

That was for being dishonest with you, you tell her. If she wanted to mess around with your hair so much, she should have said so right away, and you'd have her discharged right this very moment. She'd be hustled off into the apartment the both of you are going to share, and from there she can mess with your hair as much as she likes until Mami arrives.

If she braids it, though, you'll shoot her legs off again.

"E-eh? Erm...but wouldn't that..." Midori's brow furrows here, as she tries to absorb just what you've dumped on her - and her eyes go wide as she finally manages to get everything straight. "...Wait a minute. Sempai, I'm...Mami-san told me I'm getting a room in the Callidus floor. She didn't say anything about an apartment..."

You shake your head as you take the sketchpad from her hands, examining the drawn magical girls carefully. Of course Mami-san wouldn't have known about you sharing the apartment with Midori, because you haven't told anyone else. But she is going to live there with you. There's just way too much room for just one person, and already it feels much too wide and uncomfortable for your liking.

You give the sketchpad back, just as you feed her again. Her drawings are good, by the way. Very accurate. You're pretty sure who she based Varya off from, and you have a faint idea who Mimico's supposed to be. Varya could probably do with bigger horns, though. And maybe shamed magical girls crying at her feet, sobbing about their lost purities.

What, is she going deaf now? Do you need to call the nurse?

"N-no, but..." The Callidus goes crimson again. "Isn't it...a-against the rules, somehow? You're Warmaster, after all, and I think it's bad for you to be seen with...um, someone like me..."

How do you respond?

Quite frankly, I kind of expect it to happen.

I mean, she is crushing on someone who is some sort of badass magical girl that she made up in her mind. She said it herself, remember? She wanted some sort of contrast for her vulnerable lead self-insert.

Since Chiaki is nothing like the iconified MurderMayumi version she made up, it would not be unexpected to be disappointed with the truth about person she is based on.
>>
>>24993014
But she's already seen what Chiaki is really like and still likes her, besides, with the way things have been going on our first day as warmaster we're slowly turning on to the idealised version.

You sure midori didn't have a hand in making this hat?
>>
>>24992549 >>24992551 >>24992558 >>24992638

You take a bite out of the Waifu Special - you have to admit, for a gag sort of packed lunch, it does taste good - before replying that yes, she's correct. You are the Warmaster. The hat - which is safely at the other side of the room, dumped unceremoniously on one of the chairs there - proves it. That means what you say goes, that means you make the rules. She's worried that you'll make yourself look bad to the other Magical Girls? For fuck's sake, your predecessor's Valnikov Kharn. Getting a roommate barely even qualifies when you consider the precedent that Kharn set.

"I...I know that, sempai, but--" Midori tries to start, wringing a bit of the bedcovers with her hands, but you shake your head again and cut her off there. You want her to live with you. she's one of the few people you trust most in this world. You'd feel better, really, with her close by, where you can keep an eye out for her and make sure Jyuubey doesn't try anything else. Besides, you owe her for a few things, things that you may never be able to repay but you'll do your best to try.

It's here that she starts to tear up. Her eyes, wide and uncertain, suddenly glistens as she starts to pull in short, quivering breaths. You blink at this, before putting the nearly-finished lunch away as Midori starts to cry. Burying her face in her hands.

. . .Yeah, okay. You're not good with this sort of thing. Maybe you shouldn't have hit her--

"N-no! No, it's not that, sempai! I..." Midori manages to say between sobs. "I'm...I'm just happy that you're okay...!" She sniffles a bit, before wiping her now-reddened eyes on her gown's sleeve. "B-but, please, you don't have to think you owe me a-anything, sempai, I just didn't want you to disappear from us like that!" She sobs again, but forces herself to look up at you. "R-really, I'll be okay in the quarters..."

[1/2]
>>
>>24993014
She already has been horribly disappointed in us in Siberia, when we gave her the talk about the Full Murderface Experience and told her she needed to get to know us properly before thinking it was at all a good idea to be in a relationship with us.

That she's put up with out abrasiveness, our going fucknuts-crazy on her with Kirika's sword, subsequently forgetting everything about her, and then even after all that unhesitatingly thrown herself into a witch's barrier on her own to save us from our own fucked-up psychoses, and is STILL interested in us, I'd say she knows us pretty well by now.
>>
>>24993047

You narrow your eyes at that, before shaking your head again. Taking a handful of tissues from the box by her bedside, and pressing them into her hands. She's not listening, is she? It's not just because of that, anyway. You trust her, and you want to keep her safe. Because it's personal, yes - and important. You're being selfish here, at the moment, and the least she could do is let you do it.

"Sempai..." Midori's lower lip quivers, before breaking into tears again. This time reaching over and hugging you, crying into your shoulder. Apparently unable to help herself.

You blink at this, and...well, find yourself unable to figure out where to put your hands. You settle for awkwardly patting her on the back while she cried it out. Yes. This is...good. You just hope no one would suddenly burst in on you like this--

"HEY, MIDORIN!" Kyoko all but crashes into the scene, holding what appears to be a box of donuts. "GOT YER DONUTS RIGHT HERE, ALL FRESH BAKED FROM THAT PLACE WITH THE MUSTACHE DUDE! I GOT STRAWBERRY FILLED, WATERMELON DELIGHT, HONEY-GLAZED, BLUEBERRY CHEESECAKE--"

She stops in mid-yell as she surveys the scene in front of her. Namely, you and Midori trapped in an embrace, with the empty Waifu Special loud and proud on the bedstand.

. . .

"Oh, hey, Murderface," The Eversor greets you, her voice nonchalant, except for the BIGGEST SHIT-EATING GRIN on her face. And you hoped that this time she'd miss it. "What's goin' on? Did I interrupt somethin' or what?"

For fuck's sake.

How do you react?
>>
>>24993014
I am also a bit worried that all of this things may inspire or exacerbate the clinginess or jealousy that Midori may have, as it might have been hinted at from Midori's reactions to Mami's interactions with Chiaki. We want her to integrate with the Officio and pull her out of her shell as well. Not sure if inviting her to live in the apartment so quickly is a good idea.

"...We shall never speak of this again."

Changes in your own feelings don`t come suddenly. Especially when love dies. It doesn`t hit you over the head with a baseball bat.

It is a slow decline, you start to see more and more things about the person that didn`t bother you in the past or that you even liked, that turn into something that irritates you with no end. Its starts with the little things, then you get colder without yourself noticing, then come the doubts. And lastly you realize that there isn`t any love left for that person before you, even if you remember it to burn brightly and hot like a pure flame in the past.

>>
>>24993411
>Implying she was serious
>>
>>24993411
I think that's because they were having a little lover's spat with each other at the time, so she was cranky.

That said no-one's characterisation was quite down solidly in the first couple threads anyway.

Theres been abit of a tonal shift since the earliest threads.

I'm not too sure how to take those events, now.
>>
>>24993499
Kyouko was cranky because she was fighting with Sayaka
And protective because they still aren't openly a couple
>>
>>24993499
Chiaki back then was kind of an asshole. She's getting better now. So people treat us better.

Also
>>24993511
>>
>>24993499
I figure Murderface wasn't as close (though they've seemed pretty friendly in flashbacks and when Kyouko talks about the past) and combined with Kyouko being testy regarding their relationship she was just a bit of an asshole that night.

You struggle to clamp down on the reflex instinct of...of, well, throwing down some cooked grenades while diving through the window. Or shooting something and booking it out of there. It's...you're not equipped to deal with this sort of thing, especially when people are looking. ESPECIALLY when you can't just shoot the people looking.

You manage, instead, to look at Kyoko with something approaching desperation, and silently ask her for help. You were just trying to do something nice, and look what happened! This is why you don't do nice things, most of the time.

Kyoko blinks at you, her smile disappearing, before it re-engages, managing to be wider than ever before - and she flashes you a thumbs-up as she walks over. "There, there, Midorin. I'll protect ya from the evil, rapey Warmaster. She's not gonna make you cry any more. I'll kick her ass if she does."

...Evil? Rapey? Hold on one fucking second here...! Can Kyoko just show you were the fuck it says on your forehead, probably tattooed or something like that, "Kharn 2.0"? Because you're pretty sure it's not there!

Kyoko gives you another grin, before shaking her head and pressing an index finger on her lips to shush you. She pries Midori's arms away from your waist, and then shoos you to one side as she takes your place. Patting and comforting the still-crying girl, hushing her, making her calm down.

...Well, at least Midori's stopped crying. Whatever Kyoko's doing is working.

"Yeah, yeah. It's okay, Midorin. You can show me where Murderface touched you in a bad way, later."

You murmur Kyoko's name with as much threat as you can muster - which is admittedly not much, considering the circumstances. The Eversor's grin grows wider, before she cants her head towards the door. "Ya got that meeting to go to later, right? Don'cha need to get ready for that?"

Meeting? But you only have the one with--

Kyoko's one eye goes wide, her smile vanishing.

Oh. OH. Yes. Right.

[1/2]
>>
>>24993530

...Yeah, you do need to get ready for that. You thank her for reminding you. You walk over to the other side of the room and pick up your hat, patting it free of imaginary dust.

"Oh, sempai has a meeting?" Midori finally manages to speak without her voice quivering. "I...I'm sorry about the hysterics, sempai. I just...well..." She smiles at you just as she lets go of Kyoko. "I...just...I didn't--"

You shake your head. Nothing more needs to be said, and you're not taking no for an answer.

...Well, there's probably the thing of her having to wait back at the apartment for you until you get back, but you won't be long, really. Kyoko can keep her company there, while they talk about the mission.

"Al...alright." Midori nods, managing to work up a smile. "Thank you, sempai. This...this really means a lot."

"Oh, cool! I get to see Murderface's apartment, hahaha!" Kyoko cheers as you walk over to the donut box that Kyoko had left on one of the chairs, popping it open. "Oh, go ahead and take one, Murderface! You haven't had breakfast yet, have ya? Or lunch?"

You had a bit of the...er...boxed lunch you shared with Midori. But a donut won't be too bad, you figure.

You reach for one, before blinking and looking at Midori. ...Donuts? She wanted donuts for lunch?

"...I kind of missed them, that's all, sempai." Midori murmurs, blushing again. "I mean, after Siberia and everything."

Huh. Well. Okay. You'll keep it in mind. You turn to Kyoko, and tell her to get Midori discharged after you leave, and for her to take the Callidus to your apartment. You toss her the keycard to the apartment itself, which she catches easily.

"Yeah, count on me! I gotta share the dossier with her anyway, this is a good chance to," Kyoko grins.

You just hope that when the mission starts, Kyoko won't set Midori on fire as a diversionary tactic.

[2/3]
>>
>>24993538

"What? You're still sore about that? It worked, didn't it?" You glare at her, frowning, before she capitulates. "Right, right. Friends don't set friends on fire. I gotcha."

You finally nod, and then make to leave, the donut in your hands. Both Kyoko and Midori bidding you goodbye.

The moment you bite into the donut - you didn't really look when you grabbed it - you realize you've taken the Honey-Glazed one.

...Well. You wanted another flavor, but this is okay too, you suppose.

Where do you go now?

This wasn’t really what I had in mind when I asked Kong to show me around Mitakihara, though it was probably what I should have expected from her – a tiny shack of a bar with no sign or anything, save for a patch of neon in the window that glowed in the fading light of the early evening. The kind smoke damn near poured out of when you opened the door, that reeked of liquor and broken dreams even from outside. It was…cramped. You could call it cozy, I guess.

There were a few people there aside from us, old men slumped over their drinks. Not crying. Old men wrung out of tears, probably. …Bartender was just the opposite, though, a tall, black man with an afro. He had a scowl that I bet he was born with, and one that I figured he’d probably die with, someday. An ageless sort of man.

…A shitty dive bar in a shitty part of a foreign country. I wondered aloud how Kong knew I was looking to get raped. She snorted, and the bartender’s scowl turned on me. Ordered some whiskey, and Kong did the same. …I was seventeen then, and she was younger than me, but the bartender – Charles, I found out later – didn’t ask. Didn’t seem to care. Just offered a gruff, professional courtesy to anyone who needed a drink.

…I hoped my yakuza rape-baby at least came out with a sweet dragon tattoo. Kong forced back a laugh and elbowed me hard, almost enough to send me off the bar stool.

“You really like to bitch, don’t you.”

Wasn’t sure when it became a contest, but after a couple of drinks, we were each eying how much the other was having, and it became a sort of measured contest to stay ahead. Not chugging them – we weren’t fucking college kids, or middle-aged office workers. She’d take a sip. I’d take a bigger sip. She’d match it, then slam the rest down, and I’d follow suit. …The atmosphere really warmed up once you were a little buzzed. It was comfy. And once you learned to speak Charles a little bit, he was an alright guy. According to Kong, he didn’t ask about the people here because he knew anyone coming into a bar like this was having a rough-ass time already. Great guy.

“What happened to your stupid braids.” When Kong asked a question, it was always a demand. …Told her I wanted to look nice to go to her shitty dive bar. Proper fucking member of the Eighth. Diplomacy. Same reason I came in my nice dress. Nice jacket. Nice boots.

“You look like a skank.” …It was a cheongsam, dammit. It was a gift. Christ. Even magical girls could dress up once in a while.

…She was staring at my face.

…Fucking stop it.

“…You should tie it back.” …What? “Your hair. …Put it in...” When Kong started to mumble, I realized something.

She was drunker than I was. Probably shouldn’t have been surprised – she was smaller than me. Probably hadn’t started drinking until recently either; didn’t have to deal with rednecks every day at the Ninth. …A responsible person probably would have cut her off, but fuck it. Liver damage wasn’t a big deal for us anymore. Wouldn’t be the first time either of us made asses of ourselves in public, either. …Still had people in the Ninth calling me Vomit-tan after last time.

…Guess the less roundabout way of saying it…I grabbed the bottle of Kong on the counter and finished it off right there. Fuck it. Kong started to laugh, and in spite of myself, I did, too.

She put my hair up in ponyails. Dunno why but she thinks its really cute and when she smiles I feel a little less stupid about it. theyre fluffy and I look like someone from annies stupid animus. She keeps playing with em and its kind of pissing me off but her face gets really close every time and her breath smells like cigaretes and whisky. theres a little whiskey on her chin this time. charls wont give us any more but fuck him.

The next time she leans in I lick it off because iw ill tell you when I am done fucking drinking charls

and then we kissed. Didnt really mean to but i wanted a cigarette. her lips were really soft, and she froze right away but i didnt. I pulled her in and she kind of fell off the bar stool and onto me, but shes so tiny its not like it was hard to hold onto her.

homu

she made that cute noise again when we stopped, then her arms were around my neck and she pushed me off the bar stool and we just stayed on the floor for a while just like that, until charls kicked us out because hes an asshole

Woke up a lot more naked than I was accustomed to. Underwear was still all in the right place, but...figured I’d be lucky if my cheongsam wasn’t wrecked, wherever the hell it was. ...Even more disturbing was the company. Seemed like we’d made it back to Kong’s apartment in one piece – probably thanks to Miss Tomoe somehow – and we’d...made it back into her bed, too. Both of us. ...Still there. ...Silky black hair was just a few inches from my nose. Kong’s head was buried in my neck.

...She made that noise again as I tried to sneak away. Had to get a drink and some aspirin, but... ...Mostly I wanted to get breakfast. It took a few minutes to pry her off without waking her up, but it was probably worth it. ...She didn’t need to think I molested her or something.

There wasn’t a whole lot in the kitchen. Buttermilk. Flour. Sugar. Baking soda. Eggs. ...She really was into pancakes, so it was pretty obvious what breakfast was going to be. Dug up an apron from one of the cabinets. ‘Tiro Tiro’ on the front. ...Didn’t really suit Kong at all, but it’d do for me. Little frilly, but better than getting batter all over my underwear.

Barely got a chance to start before the door opened and someone slipped into the kitchen, clearly trying to be quiet. I glanced back over my shoulder. Took a guess as to who it was, and...

“Cooldown...san? Oh my, I didn’t expect you to be awake. It seems like you two had a rough night together, so...” Miss Tomoe was as sweet as ever. She didn’t miss a beat, didn’t wonder at what I was wearing. Even kept it quiet. ...I told her I woke up a little early and wanted to get breakfast. She was welcome to take over if she wanted-

“Hmm. No, it would be rude to barge in, wouldn’t it?” Her ever-present smile widened, and I could feel my face burning hot. ...She pretty much saw right through me. “But...I’m not making any assumptions here, but...if you happened to want to make something Murderface will really enjoy waking up to, I can certainly give you a few tips.”

...Yeah. ...Guess I’d...appreciate that.

Get up.

I nudged Kong’s sleeping form. ...Again. And again. Then I just shook her with my free hand. True to form, she rolled away in an instant, snatching a handgun that was under her pillow away and taking a shot at my head. ...Predictable. It shaved off a couple of hairs, but it wasn’t enough. Told her to stop being retarded.

Through bleary eyes she stared at me for a moment, then adjusted her aim. But before she got a chance to squeeze the trigger again, I thrust the plate of honey-and-syrup-drowned pancakes out between us, then sat down on the bed where she’d been sleeping a second before. Like a cautious animal, she leaned in toward the plate, like she was going to sniff it, then grumbled a little as she snatched it away and shoved a hunk of pancake in her mouth.

...Guess I wasn’t that hungry after all. I was pretty alright with licking the mixture of honey, butter, and syrup off of my knife. ...Told her not to overthink it. Wanted something to eat and there was some batter left over.

...That’s all.

Will you be making a long-haired Chiaki Chikuwa?

When we go back to a neo-noir tone, will you keep around the romantic comedy choices just so that they end in failure and loss (of good relations, items, limbs)?

Will Chiaki, with her new appreciation of water, become some kind of water connoisseur? Comparing the relative merits of water from Iceland to water from an artesian well in France?
