You are Princess Lydia Tannhäuser Von Cygnus Gates the third, second in line of succession to the throne, duchess of Tannhäuser, and executive director of the Royal Rocketry Corps of Midland.

It is now turn 21 of the year 714 of the Gates Dynasty. 4 turns before the winter solstice and new year festival. Now that the typhoon season is over, it is safe for you to return back to Tannhäuser, survey and repair the damage, and resume your conquest of space.

You could also head home for the winter holidays, or pay a visit to Ms Kenaway in Merika. It's up to you.

Well lets get to it. Also time to get the team back together.(you know Sir Harkin and prince Orion. Everyone else already went with us right?)
>>
>>24962445
We shall return at once to Tannhauser Island, and begin repairs immediately.
We must not lose our edge in the race.

Harker went home to work on a new aircraft inspired by his spaceflight. His lattest letter says that he's had a breakthrough and will be returning soon.

Orion also went home to visit his mother's island. You haven't heard from him since, you don't imagine they have many telegraphs in the east.

>>24962770
The storm has done a number on the island. The Manor and Blockhouse are okay, but the workship has collapsed into itself and the launchpad tower has fallen on it's side. Several smaller houses in the village have been also destroyed, as well as the bridge between the north and south island.

What shall you repair first?
>Fix the bridges and wires
>Fix the workshop
>Fix the launchpad
>Fix the houses
>>
>>24962924
Fix the bridges and wires first.
2. Workshop
3. houses
4. launchpad
>>
>>24962924
Fix the houses first. The men will respect us more and work harder for it.
>>
Now that you are back home, you may resume your normal budget. You have 38 RnD points to spend. You may spend up to 15 points per facility to conduct repairs.

How many will be allocated to the houses and wiring?
>>
We shall fix the bridges and wires so work can be done efficiently, and then move on to the houses.
>>
>>24963124
How much is required to repair them completely? And what about the RP's we had banked away in preparation for doing repairs?
>>
>>24963166
I decided that giving budget during the away time was a bad idea because RnD points represent manpower and building space as well as money. I will however let you keep the points you did save up from the one turn of budget you did do. So you have 50 points to spend this turn.

Fixing the houses or wires completely will cost 15 points. Fixing the launch tower or workshop completely will cost 30 points. You may spend up to 15 points on each item per turn.
>>
>>24963225
Fix the houses and wires fully. The warehouse fully we can fix the launchpad when we have a rocket ready.
>>
>>24963225
50 RP:
15RP - Wiring and Bridges
15RP - Houses
15RP - Workshop
5RP - Launchpad.
>>
>>24963401
Everyone gets to work and power is restored in a single day. Then work can begin on fixing the houses and workshop. You manage to clean up the launch pad as well, but hold off on righting the tower until you have something to launch.

You also recieve a message from Sir Harker, "AM RETURNING ON TURN 22 stop PLEASE MAKE SURE RUNWAY IS SAFE stop"
>>
>>24963589
Good thing the runway is safe right?
>>
>>24963608
You could allays check!
>>
>>24963682
Yes lets do that. If we don't have any points left to fix it we can message him earlier so that he's not landing on broken runways. We should also prepare a group picnic for our safe return and that of our rocket corps.
>>
>>24963789
There are a lot of derbies on the runway. But you might be able to clean it in time if you hurry (costs no points)

If he's landing a prop-plane, he should be fine, but if he's coming in a jet, he may have trouble from Foreign Object Damage (FOD)
>>
>>24963912
Given his asking for a clean runway, I'm thinking he made a new jet during his holiday and wishes to showoff in common Harker fashion.
>>
>>24964067
Will you reply warning him of possible damage?
>>
>>24964300
If he'll listen we can pass the message to the navy and hope they see him, otherwise before he arrives we can broadcast the message so that he stands informed. Now lets get some people on clearing off the runway.
>>
>>24964300
Yes we shall warn him.
And we shall have workers clear it as best they can.
>>
You warn him, and his only reply is "WONT BE A PROBLEM stop."

You also recieve two letters, one from the Bureau of State Intelligence, and another from Ms Kenaway.
>>
>>24964533

State letter first, not often we get a letter from the government other than Parliament.
>>
>>24964600

This.
>>
>>24964533
State Intelligence first.

Well that settles that. Time for our Professora to get a new student. I wonder how he feels about beaches?
>>
Rolled 1, 1, 6 = 8

>>24964940
Then we shall send a letter of employment to him to come work with us at Tannhauser Island.
>>
>>24964940
>>24965011

Also destroy the letter now that we are done with it by shredding it and burning the remains.
>>
>>24965034
You toss the letter into the fire and open Ms Kenaway's letter.

"Princess Lydia Tannhauser. How is the west this time of year? it's too bad your island got hit by the storms, maybe next year you could come visit my facilities during the storm season? I've been working on a new man-rated rocket and capsule. Once the launch escape system is tested properly, we can start to send our Space Scouts into orbit, and then we can finish our balloon network! Hurry up and get back to work as soon as you can so I can see what you are up to now. I can't wait!
-Your friend, Jakisan Kennaway, First daughter of Merika."

Attached is a photo of her standing next to a capsule, slightly larger than Pathfinder, and equipped with what appears to be a launch escape rocket.
>>
>>24965215

Nice to see that shes been doing good. We should try to send some scouts to the island of Prince Orion's mother to send word that we are back and if hes wishes to return we shall be waiting.
>>
>>24965215
We should frame and hang the photo tastefully. Keep us reminded of our competitor.
>>
>>24965466
As you hang the picture, doing the math in your head, you would estimate that the capsule is between mass 5 and 6. You'd need something equivalent to the Cherubim (which is in development hell right now) to put it into orbit. You don't know if the SSC has anything that big.
>>
>>24965510

We can worry about that later, right now we can start drawing up plans with the Professora about the heat chamber to test out our equipment in. That way we can recreate the conditions of reentry radio failure.
>>
>>24965510
We will need to begin developing our new capsule, and an even bigger rocket.
>>
>>24965667
The professora wants to wait till Klaus returns, and the workshop is repaired before starting work on a high pressure furnace.

On the eve of turn 22, you receive a radio transmission from none other than the RAF's Flying Fortress Aggressor. "Aggressor to Tannhauser, requesting permission to land a glider on your airfield."
>>
>>24966104

Grant them permission. But why are they here. Oh no matter lets double check the runway and personally greet whoever is arriving.
>>
>>24966104
We shall ask the airfield operators if te runway is clear.
We shall grant authorization to land, and forward any warnings about the conditions of the runway.

You had out to the runway and see that all major obstructions have been removed. There is still some sand, but Harker said that it "won't be a problem"

You see a white speck on the horizon, which must be the aggressor, and from under it drops a smaller dark speck which soars through the air towards the island. As it gets closer it's form is revealed to be a triangular black aircraft without any engines, just a delta wing with two control surfaces on the tips. It lands nose up on the runway and deploys a drag chute to come to a complete stop. Before the hatch opens revealing the pilot.

On the side of the aircraft are the words. Halcon Aerospace Meteor, and Lord Charles Harker.
>>
>>24966405

"Neat. A small plane inside the rocket. I like it Sir Harker. Anything else you have been working on or would you rather rest for the evening and go over it tomorrow?"
>>
>>24966518
"Well I've had better landings than that... Ahh Good afternoon your highness. Sadly this isn't the heroic return I had planned. This Meteor was designed for spaceflight and atmospheric re-entry, it even has attitude control jets. I was going to test it by launching it sub-orbitaly from Merika, and landing it here. But sadly I don't think Ms Kenaway trusts me anymore. She wouldn't lend me one of her Anga IV's."
>>
>>24966667
Doubtless, Sir Harker. You say this vehicle can make Orbital Insertion? What is its payload?"
>>
>>24967111
"Right now just a single pilot. I wanted more room, but the RCS system takes up too much. I could scale the design up tough. And I haven't been able to try it in orbit yet sadly."
>>
>>24967430

"Well its your design so you can test it out next time you go up if you want. Anything else interesting happen during the storm season?"
>>
>>24967430
What does the Meteor Mass at? We might consider testing it if we can get some scientific data from it.
>>
>>24967619
As you walk back to the Manor, he hands you the Meteor's specs.

HA meteor
>Type Reusable Capsule, Mass 4, Capacity 2, Reliability 10/15

>1 pilot, 1 RCS

Also the specs of the SSCs launch vehicles which he had hoped to borrow one of.

>Type: First stage, Mass 4. Capacity 4, Reliability 19/20

Anga VIII
>Type: First stage, Mass: unknown, slightly bigger than Archangel type A, Reliability unknown
>>
>>24967724
Interesting.
But right now we must devote our resources to development of a mapping satellite.
>>
>>24967867
We could conceivable work towards both ends by working on both the Cherubum and the photovoltaic systems once we get ourselves back up and running. There may additionally be patrons interested in the developments related to the minivac, as it is not likely to be a big development priority at present. Getting an EVA flight had also ought to be on the priority list.

The next day, Klaus arrives on the Maiale Volante. It is now turn 22 and you have 38 points to spend.

Fixing the workshop will cost 5 points, Fixing the launch tower will cost 15 points.

You currently have business suit equipped. You have 3 luck points.
>>
>>24968509
We should get our facilities back up as soon as possible (20 points).

Then perhaps 10 into the cherubum, 5 photovoltaics, and the remaining 3 into the reusable space vehicle. If we can enlarge it, BAM, cameras in space without neeeding wireless data transmission.
>>
>>24968584
The Cherubim will require 12 points per level of improvement. The Meteor will cost 4 points to improve per level, and prototyping a larger version will cost a number equal to the total size x 3.
>>
>>24968614
Ok, so Our proposal is to get one of size 6 so we have some mission payload. Sound good to the other ladies in the thread?
>>
>>24968794
The Mark A is size 6, it can only however lift a size 3 payload into space because of the present limitations of your engines. A mass 6 first stage can carry a mass 3 second stage, which can carry 3 mass worth of payload. You either need to work on a more efficient upper stage, or a larger lower stage if you wan to get something larger than the Pathfinder into orbit.

Col Smith says that if 24 points were invested in it every turn, the Cheribum would be ready for a test flight in 5 tuns.

Professor Hawtrey says he should be able to improve the efficiency of the second stage considerably. This would save a lot of weight on fuel and allow larger payloads to be launched with the same rockets.

Sergent Adell says that her Minivac would allow you to fit more equipment into a smaller package, and re-use the Pathfinder design as a self contained satellite for communications and reconnaissance.
>>
>>24968925
Ok, those sound like good proposals. It is our desire to see a proof-of-concept flight with harker's flying machine some time soon What are the costs of Hawtrey's experiments?
>>
It's time for bed, the quest will continue on Thursday between 1600 and 1800 UTC-7
>>
>>24968925
We will need to know how much Hawtrey's modifications will cost on the Mk4A Arcangel rocket and what gains it will provide.

We will also wish to explore Sgt. Adell's suggestion, and improve the MiniVAC to act as a control module.

Budget, 38RP
24RP - Mk4c Cheribum 6/11
6RP - MiniVAC 6/11
8RP - Hawtrey's Efficiency Boost
>>
>>24969790
Oh, but 20RP is already earmarked for repairing the workshop and launch tower.

Turn 22, 38RP:
5RP - Workshop
15RP - Launch Tower
12RP - Mk4c Cheribum 6/10
6RP - MiniVAC 6/11
