"Five bucks says it's the StuG." Roys says over the comms.

You are the commander of Black Jack, an M26 Pershing Heavy Tank and you'll take some of that action. "Betting on a tank without a turret? Brave. Five on the Panzer IV." You say, reaching down across the breach of the cannon to shake your loader's hand on it.

Black Jack is sitting on the other side of a low from where most of the other tanks should be starting. Hull down and with a great view of the battlefield. It had been an hour since the battle had begun, and forty-five minutes since you'd reached your defilade position.

You pop back up above the hatch with your binoculars. Scanning the forests below you for signs of tank movement.

"See anything?" Rose asks from the gunner's seat. "A few dust trails, no reports though." It had taken the girls nearly 20min to figure out how to drive their tanks in a straight line that didn't include fences, cars, houses or other vulnerable private and public property and it had taken another hour for the girls to make it to their respective starting points. You didn't expect there'd be any contact between them for a while.

"Getting bored down here, Commander." Richard says from below. You actually had expected things to move along a bit faster.

Let me rephrase that then. It appears as though it's just barely enough to penetrate. If it expends all of it's kinetic energy penetrating, I don't imagine that there will be all that much left that would actually inflict enough damage to trigger the flag.

Assuming the computer is advanced enough to keep track of that sort of thing.

The I-go could withstand a direct hit from the Maus main gun and it wouldn't be structurally compromised.

actually, just the act of things penetrating the armor would typically be lethal to the crew. Look up "Spalling".

The shells don't actually pen- a computer in the shell tells the tank it's dead, and raises a flag on the roof. Something about "carbon coating" or some shit
>>
>>24833564
If it has enough to pen a tank armor, even the spalling behind the armor will be enough to main or kill whatever is sitting behind it.
>>
>>24833701

>>
>>24833817
Or warships like the Sheffield.
>>
>>24833701
Actually, spalling was/is lethal to crews... Even if the shot DOESN'T penetrate. The massive 122mm and 155mm guns the Soviets used were notorious for killing crews either through sheer concussive impact, or spalling damage, even when they didn't penetrate. The British Challenger 2 (their current MBT) uses HESH rounds (High Explosive Squash Head), which are designed primarily to cause spalling damage and kill crews inside vehicles even when it doesn't penetrate. The primary defense against spalling damage, is padded lining interior designed to absorb spalling shrapnel, which western allied tanks all use now.
>>
>>24833833
Yeah, just because we can, doesn't mean we should. Just hit them with the main gun and be done with it. Should be a one and done deal across the board.
>>
>>24833872
It's a practice match and we're the only crew that's even been in a tank before, never mind mock combat experience. Giving them a handicap is fair, and using only the M2 is a clever handicap.
>>
"What's the point of a training match if we just roll down there and smite them like the fist of an angry god?" You say. "Let them get some practice in shooting each other up- we've got a good defensive position."

"Can I at least turn on the radio?" Patrick asks.

"Can you find something that doesn't suck?" You say, grinning as you scan the valley below.

"It's all Japanese, but I can try."

A few minutes of turning through various stations rewards you with a station playing western classic rock. Thank God for Ameriphiles, you think before the quiet pop of a tank gun wafts up to Black Jack's position. "Contact! I hear guns!" You say excitedly, scanning across the trees.

"Who was it?" Rose asks.

"Too quiet for a seventy-five..." You guess. "Probably the 38' or the I-Go." As you scan across a road, you finally see the cause of the commotion. Miho's Panzer IV comes whipping out of the woods before turning onto a service road. You switch over to the telescope sight in the hull, switching over to 6x to watch the action. "Looks like the Panzer IV with..." A bright pink blod emerges from the woods next, attempting to turn onto the fleeing Panzer IV for a shot, but firing much too early and sending the 75mm round into a burm of dirt along the road. "There's the Lee."

And then, a few second later a garish golden tank emerges from the forest, seemingly shooting randomly at the Lee and Pz.IV. "There's the President's Thirty-Eight."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH yeah no.

Took you nigh on three decades to "liberate" the Phillipines even slightly, and that was only because you didn't have the money left to keep the colony going. And you've still got your claws in Guam and Puerto Rico.

Besides which, even with The Roosevelt Corollary (which would've arguably brought the US in on the British side) the wording of the doctrine, no matter how abused it's been to spread Yank Imperialism, is that it applies only to the extension of European colonialism into Latin America.

So it doesn't apply at all, really.

Certainly their gunner. Even forgiving the fact that their tank was moving along as near-top speed, she wasn't even close to being on target.

"Nah, let 'em go." You say, watching the 38(t) try to take a sharp turn and nearly spin itself off the road. "Shooting them like this just wouldn't be sporting." You say with a grin.

You put your helmet on and get ready to pop the hatch open again a large stand of rocks beside your tank explodes, showering the side of the tank with steel and stone shrapnel. "Jesus!" You yelp. "Contact! Richard get the engine going!" You move to the periscope site, scanning along treelines and and hills.

That was almost certainly a 75mm round, and if it wasn't the PzIV or the M3...

PATANG! Black Jack rocks as a round bounces off the side of the turret- the round shattering on impact rather than doing any real damage- and you saw where that one came from.

"Bingo!" You say. "Target StuG III, forty-two degrees left rotation." You hit the commander override. "Frontal silouette, target stationary. Range thirteen-hundred. Bringing you on-target."

If theres even schrecks with league ammo around.
Personally what would be utter hilarity would the PIAT, since it stands to reason the only person capable of using one would be ridiculously fit.

IIRC, League Rules would prohibit the use of anything that they didn't have/couldn't have done/didn't do.
Panzerschrecks weren't shot out of the turrets of tanks.
The Japanese didn't have Panzerschrecks.
So that's two strikes against it.

>>
>>24835530
They had panzerschreks in WW2, too.

My point is that they weren't chucking them out of tank cupolas by hand, which seems to be the quoted posts' objection.

It was worded poorly, i'll grant.

Awesome, let's do it. Even if it's just strapped to the I-Go's turret, it'll give the volleyball team at least one shot that can seriously fuck up its opponents. That'll open up an "unconventional tactic" for whoever was reaching for them the last few threads.
>>
"Bad move, Erwin." You say under your breath. "Load HVAP. Engage."

A few seconds later you hear the round being rammed home. "Up!" Roy shouts.

"Fire!" You call out.

"Firing." Rose says calmly. The tank shakes and rocks as the ninety-millimeter shell arcs out towards the StuG. You see it disappear into the woods behind the German self-propelled gun, right through where the turret would've been on a normal tank.

"Correct down, one degree. Engage." you call down- the gun lowers slightly.

"Up!"

"Firing." The tanks rocks again as the hills still echo with the report of your first shot. The rounds strikes true- it impacts almost dead center on the StuG, just below and to the left of the gun. The impact carries it back a good three feet before a small white flag pops out of the top.

"Target destroyed!"

A loud 'ting" shows that you've been spotted by someone else- another shell has bounced off your turret.

>Pull back, if they want to engage they can come to us.

"Alright, Richard, we've got a bit too much attention for my likes." You say trying to figure out where the round game from.

PATANG! Dammit, where is that coming from?

"Moving back." Black Jack drops back down behind the lip of the hill.

You take a look at the map. Two shots, both from the right front. Small caliber rounds meant it wasn't the Pz.IV. You needed to get into cover before the guns that could actually penetrate you figured out where you were.

Didn't help that the 90mm was about the louding gun around. You'd probably broadcast your position to every other tank out there- something you hadn't had to worry about before. "Alright, get on this road." You do some quick calculations- the battlefield was on a boat so the map wasn't necessarily oriented by the compass.

"Alright, take a right here." Further back there's a short gulley- you can back into it and force them to come at your front armor one-by-one. "Alright, follow the road..."

"Aye." Richard says. It's slow-going, most of the road is uphill and the M26's biggest weakness was an underpowered engine that made hilly terrain it's biggest enemy. Richard handles the clutch and gears like a pro, giving the M26 it's best possible time. Meanwhile you're looking

"Alright, back in here." Now the waiting game begins- hopefully whoever was shooting at you is less patient and decides to come after you.

The only question is how long you want to wait- If the girls go back to shooting at each other then the longer you wait, the fewer you'll have to face. But if the girls decide to get smart and team up to take you, then this gulley could go from an ambush point to your own personal Armor Alamo.

Oil, Ho!
>>
>>24837329
Because there's sooooo much oil in Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Afghanistan... Seriously Iraq is the only country ever that has had Oil and even that barely even came up in the reasoning for the invasion. Actually would that "GET THE OIL" WAS the objective, at least that would have made some fucking sense...
>>

>>
>>24837543
People wouldn't have been that willing to go for it.

That and I heard Afghanistan had some oil but it served more as a starting point to use the "war on terror" to invade Iraq. I mean with most of the population so drunk of patroitism and righteous indignation, no one thought about it until it was too late.

Insert GW Bush, 9/11 theories here.

that's equally plausible as I have a theory that the oil companies in the US keep gas prices high and only blame the arabs for any gouging they do. A oil source they control would allow them to easier control things.

Whatever the case GW Bush more or less took advantage of 9/11 and its aftermath. If not for that, I'm not sure if he'd have gotten reelected.
>>
>>24837329
You realize we're on track to be a net exporter of Oil by 2015 and the largest exporter by about 2035 right?

Even though exporting our oil is silly, we should keep it all to ourselves and laugh as the middle east runs out and has to beg Russia and Canada.

>>
>>24837676
Yep. Affected companies started raising prices (let's give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they really were raising them to deal with the hit they took), then all the other vultures saw that they could raise THEIR prices and nobody would notice, so they did it.

So, here's the thing about oil. Even if we produced enough of it domestically, all oil still gets sold on the open international market to the highest bidder (thanks, capitalism), so in the event of a suppy shock somewhere else, prices will still go up because the chinese / europeans / some other third world assholes will be buying it.

no, hes full of shit; all of those reserves are locked up in shale or otherwise difficult to get at; the only reason we're doing it now is because with oil at $90 a barrel it's actually cost effective for companies to go after it.

You end up using almost as much energy pumping it out as it has in it to begin with, too, so the EROI is pretty bad compared to regular crude.
>>
You give it about ten minutes to be safe- Even the slowest tank wouldn't take more than that to pursue you up into the hills. Whoever was taking pot-shots at you had either given up.

"Alright, move us out, we're gonna hang a right and head down that service road. Should take us down into those wooded hills." Plenty of hulldown positions and you had some brush to hide in.

As you moved out though, you happened to glance to the left. And there, waiting for you, is the Lee, 75mm maingun already leveled at you. "Richard, rotate left!" The tank jerks to a stop as he pulled the tank into a tight left-hand turn just in time for the seventy-five to bounce off the front hull plate.

"Load AP!" You yell. "Target close! Bringing you on target!" The Lee has already back around a bend in the road, though, replaced by the Panzer IV which darts off, and snaps a shot off at your face before pulling back.

"Up!" Roy finally calls out.

"Reverse back, they can't get through our front armor..." Richard does a magnificent job of that order- backing down a hill with almost no ability to see behind him, relying on your directions to keep from backing into a hill or off the embankment.

The Panzer IV's definitely driving differently from what you witnessed early- you remember Hana being the driver earlier. In contrast to the jerky, clumsy driving you saw when she was being chased, now she was precise, darting out just far enough to give Yukari a shot.

"Ok, there's the bridge." You finally call out after a five minute running battle.

A shell slams into the back of your turret. PANK!

You turn and look out the back of the cupola. The 38(t) is already waiting on the other side. Alone, in the open, and completely still. As you watch, it fires another 37mm shell, bouncing it off the back of your turret.

"Richard, keep reversing." You say, hoping that the 38(t)'s popgun doesn't get a shot on your engine.

"Up!" Roy shouts, loading another AP rounds.

"Firing!" Rose states as the tank rocks again. "Confirm hit on the Lee?" She says calmly.

You turn back around and check the periscope. The Lee is smoking from a hull in it's lower-glacis. "Confirmed. Lee is down." The Panzer IV immediately pulls back, having lost it's distraction. "Panzer IV is disengaging!" You say with a smile- that was a rough patch but it's looking like Black Jack took the worst of it.

"Alright, Rose, bringing you on target. Time to pay Anzu back for the paintjob."

"Aye!"

"Target rear. Point blank range." The 38(t) begins reversing away, but it's far too late-

"On target. Firing." A single AP round ends the match for the 38(t).

Her fallout was less due to comptence in a tank but rather the fact she was concerned with saving someone before Maho fired on the tank with that person still out. Nothing to do with her tanking otherwise.

It's assumed the trauma from that caused her to repress her tank knowledge, hence her less than usefulness at first. That and her docile nature stemming from being in her sister's shadow.

that's something people are woefully overlooking, and it may prove to be a fatal mistake. This is not Ep1 Doormat Miho we're dealing with.

Proper tactics may involve using our strengths, but it also includes considering our enemy's strengths and abilities.

Cute. You do realize that a tactical genius with shitty tools can't work miracles, right? Miho can't convert her tank to an Ausf. H2 on the fly, so her range and penetration have hard limits. We can exploit them, and should. How is making an accurate evaluation of her tank underestimating her? Should I assume that Hana suddenly becomes a dead-eye, estimates windage, and puts a HEAT shell right in the cupola?

Miho's showing herself to be a very dangerous opponent, and even with a tank that your should completely outclass, she's put you into two seperate ambush positions where only quick reactions and excellent gunnery saved you. If she's heading back into the hills, it's because she wants you back in those hills.

And if she wants you back in the hills, then you're heading into the forest. "Rich, get us back into the woods. Everyone keep an eye out- there's still two tanks out there..." You say, finally starting to feel the pressure of the situation. You smiled inwardly- this was your world, this is what you were born to do, this is the pressure your were born to feel.

As soon as you're confident that you've broken line of sight with any of the hill-side firing positions that the Pz.IV could get to, you have Richard turn the tank around so you can make better time- it's still slow going though- trees and brush are almost as bad as the uphill climb.

You consult your map. You need to end this, which means you need the distance to hit Miho before she can engage you. Your Pershing emerges into a small clearing. You need a moment to think and get your bearings. "Alright, Rich, stop for a minute." You swing the hatch open and you notice for the first time how stale and hot the air inside the turret had become.

As you open the turret though you think you hear tank tracks, but as soon as you hear them they stop. "So what's the plan, commander?" Patrick calls up. You shush him before climbing up into the cupola. You know you heard a tank- the problem is that the two tanks left were the ones that were least garishly painted. You carefully scan the surrounding trees.

And read the word: "GUTS" in Kanji. Looking up you finally get the outline of the I-Go and see Noriko, sitting in her cupola, looking at you. You stare at each other, and both drop into your turrets.

>Engage with cannon- make sure you finish this.

Do you bother reading before responding? Tactical genius is only as good as the tools you have to implement them. She cannot psychically will the shell to fly straighter and penetrate deeper, no matter how smart she is. It is a physical property of the gun. Instead, she uses her tactics to get into a position where the low pen doesn't matter. Guess where that is? At close range. Guess how a tank gets there? By driving up to the other one.

So how do we stop this plot? By getting to an area where we can use our own strength: firepower at range. Is that so hard a concept for you to grasp? I'm not syaing "lolpershing i win," I'm saying to, like you yourself said, use our strengths (firepower at range) to counter our weakness (sides/rear).

>>
"Target left! Rich turn us to face them!" He begins turning the tank at the moment the I-Go's cannon fires a round into the cheeck of your turret.

TING.

So that's who that was. The I-Go is already on the move again, but their driving into your turn. "Patrick! Rose! Ma-Deuce! Light 'em up!"

The machine guns strafe across the hull of the I-Go for a good five seconds before it gently rolls to a stop, a white flag flying from it's turret.

"Great job gu-" BANG! "Jesus!" You spin the periscope around and see Miho's Pz.IV, literally thirty feet behind you. "Rich! Turn us around! Get us around!" You hit the turret override, trying to get the turret on target. You'd just barely heard the I-Go in the woods, you hadn't even gotten a chance to heard the Pz.IV over the machinegun fire. "Load AP! Target rear! Range point-blank! Bringing you on target!"

You don't have enough time. Somewhere in the Pz.IV a 75mm shell was already loaded and aimed dead on your thinnest piece of armor from nearly-point-blank range. "Rich why aren't you turning?!"

"I'm trying! Left track is off!"

...She'd hobbled your tank with the first shot.

The Pz.IV fires. Your turret is still nearly ninety degrees off from her.

"Clever girl." You say as you hear the flag go up.

>>
>>24839629
I mean if she was expecting us to make that move or not as if she was she wouldn't have gone too far ahead and waited for signs of a conflict to close in.
>>
>>24839643

Actually, it's 43mm armor at a thirty-degree slope at 700m.

She fired at 50mm of armor with no slope at around 10m.
>>
>>24839656
We were in a Super Pershing. The standard Pershing was an underpowered slug, adding a bigger gun and more armour didn't quite help.
>>
>>24839415
On one hand I'm happy we didn't walk all over them.
On the other hand I'm annoyed we're not allowed to choose sensible options not in the list.
>>
>>24839599
The "how" is easy. No matter what you choose, Miho chose the opposite. Such is the nature of pre-determined CYOA's.

Or, hell, if you REALLY want an in-story explanation: after uniting the school against us, it came down to a slow-turning tank against two fast ones. We're used to one on one fights, so the vote option to WATCH YOUR SURROUNDINGS after seeing the I-Go was missing and needed to be a write-in. Instead, we tunnel-visioned before getting circle-o'-death'd.
>>
>>24839689
doesn't explain how she teleported around the map while making no sound at all because Pz. IV's are totally quiet right?
>>
>>24839625

I don't believe that's correct considering our tank, but for the sake of the story, I'm assuming Miho had to win.

Considering the writer may have been getting tired as well and wanted to wrap things up quick, I can't really complain about some degree of railroad.
>>
>>24839538
Logically the smaller lighter P4 wouldn't have as much trouble as an underpowered heavy, especially an upgunned and uparmoured under powered heavy to slog through the forest.
Logically when the OP says "Thinnest piece of armour" he's obviously talking about the engine block
Logically an upgunned and uparmoured turret would also have a slower turret traverse and that's not to say the turret traverse on a WWII era tank was amazing to begin with.
Logically the terrain isn't as large as you would assume.

Or really anyone whose naysaying in this thread, I bet those guys also think that Tiger I's really were invincible armour wise.
>>
>>24839711
..weren't we firing our Ma Deuce all the way? The approach could have been masked by us dealing with the I-Go.
>>
>>24839689
That actually only works out to about 49mm at vertical, but perhaps it could get through point blank. The bullshit that allowed it to occur remains in force.

Seriously, how did she magically know our exact course and position exactly? She had fled and had no visual on us the I-go was in the forest, she had NO Spotting information whatsoever, but somehow is able to magically overtake and position perfectly behind us point blank within ten seconds of visual contact with the ONLY other vehicle that could inform us of her location?

I'm sorry dude, but did you ponder the logistic of this AT ALL?
>>
>>24839656
You forgot that once the BlackJack was in the forest, the crew were too busy being defensive to keep a good eye on where it was. And when the I-Go appeared, welp that gave her the sign she wanted.

I'm starting to think our big mistake was using conventional tactics.

>>24839711

>TUNNEL VISION
>MOAR TUNNEL VISION LEL

is only further proof of railroading and poor QM'ing on OP's behalf, this quest gets shitter and shitter every thread and OP makes no effort to try and make it better
>>
>>24839752
Distance also plays a part. 700m and 10m range is very much different. And besides, Miho has to win to have confidence.
>>
>>24839516
Thanks again for the quest and I'll be here tomorrow

If I can make a suggestion, when you give out options, it might be good to add a
>Other
option, so we can make up our own course of action if we feel we need to
>>
>>24839719
I think you think our tank is a T26E4, it is not, it is a M26E1, we don't have 5tons of bolted on boiler plate and panther UFP or a counter weighted turret, all thats different from a standard pershing is the M3E1 gun, which adds very little weight, meaning that the tanks performance is virtually unchanged in regards to the original
>>

I'll be in this ride up until the end either way, so a couple of changes here and there is all the same to me. I'll be enjoying all the way.
>>
>>24839837
>not the fucking engine, which is not armor
Tell that to the Merkava
>>
>>24839415
>The machine guns strafe across the hull of the I-Go for a good five seconds before it gently rolls to a stop
>good five seconds
>five seconds

that totally enough time for a 25ton tank to reposition behind us in a heavily wooded forest right?
>>
>>24839812
Regardless the Pershing is not actually a very mobile tank. A 500 HP engine is the only thing that drives Black Jack.

>>24839837
Thanks for not picking a part of the arguement to attack, sorry I placed faith in you to fill in the incongruity yourself, but please tell me further how that debunks the overall arguement that this situation was entirely possible. Why this wouldn't happen in real life is because real life involved engagement ranges far in excess of what we face here.
Additionally in real life tanks are supported by infantry, not expected to fight alone against each other in terrain you really don't want to be fighting alone in a tank.
>>
>>24839872
the Merkava is just a really over engineered overweight apc with a large main gun, in the world of MBTs it has no right to call itself a tank

but mounting the engine forward of the fighting compartment was a smart move
>>
>>24839756
>was using conventional tactics
Fishman if you utter that phrase one more time I'm going to blow a blood vessel

sage for rage at how well you imitate a broken record
>>
>>24839867
well it's hard to tell until we actually get his notes.

while I wonder about if things could have been different, but the past is past. I'm just having fun reading it as it comes. Then again I'm not someone who expects this to be WoT Quest, I wouldn't bother with such a thing at all.

I read this as this promises to be a nice mix of action. humor and cute girls, similar to what SWQ was at its peak.
>>
I love how the end of every thread somehow manages to create argumentative shitstorms, its more enjoyable to observe than the 5 OP updates over the course of 4-6 hours that a thread runs
>>
>>24839890
It was a bit underpowered yes, but keep in mind it wasn't Tiger heavy and unlike some vehicle it was otherwise automotively sound, so off road anyway it wasn't like it was Churchill awful or something and the wider tracks gave it an edge off road verses even some medium tanks.
>>
>>24839923
>well it's hard to tell until we actually get his notes.
its actually not that hard to tell seeing as every interaction we have had is planned out and there is no way for us to avoid the set course of action
>>
>>24839901
I assume you're referring to the door.
That's meant for ammo, not troops.
>>
>>24839954
>That's meant for ammo, not troops.
so that troop compartment in the back for 4 soldiers fully kitted out is for ammo and not for troops?
>>
>>24839947
It was a yank tank.

that automatically makes it a piece of shit, dontcha know?
>>
>>24839973
>>24839954
Actually IIRC the idea was to allow a tank to rescue another crew from a disabled vehicle, but it was sometimes pressed into use as a "super APC" in practice.
>>
>>24839867
I'm just glad that I don't actually participate in the choices, otherwise I would be mad at the amount of railroading going on
>>
>>24839807

Heartily seconded. Based on how the end result was written, both choices would give the same result, and that's just plain frustrating.

At least put the Other option there, to indicate that perhaps there is a better solution.
>>
>>24839992
>sometimes
thats all the Israelis use it for now
>>
>>24839973
Does it have seats?
Is it next to the ammo?
If the answer is no then yes,it should be pretty evident it was not designed as an APC in mind.
>>
>>24839995
>and that's just plain frustrating.
welcome to being railroaded

>perhaps
there is always a better solution, its just that OP couldn't have us actually making changes and impacting the quest now, otherwise it wouldn't be Train Simulator 2013
>>
>>24840014
>Does it have seats?
yes it actually does
>>
>>24840000
I might be wrong, but last I didn't think they deployed them with troops on board all the time as a matter of course like a real APC. Like each tank doesn't have an assigned squad that's always on board, but admittedly I haven't really read much about what they're doing nowadays in some time.
>>
>>24839947
Tiger had a better power to weight ratio then the Pershing, it was actually quite nimble for a Heavy Tank. And one of the best parts about the Churchill was that it would perform over almost any sort of terrain, thanks to the double bogey suspension.
>>
>>24839947

Not Tiger heavy, but its still has a disappointing P/W ratio, around 12. On top of that its recorded top off road speed is about 9 kph.
So yes, the Panzer 4 should easily be able to run around and get behind the Black jack
>>
>>24840034
that is exactly what they are doing with them, its the only way they can work with infantry safely in the fights they get in
>>
>>24840047

Wouldn't it have been making a racket, however?
>>
>>24840064
it would have, a very load one infact, and then theres the fact that it would have been as slow as us through the forest because tanks DONT FUCKING CHARGE THROUGH FORESTS
>>
>>24840064

Sure, but over the Pershing's own engine?
>>
>>24840064
Yeah, but I think we were buttoned up at the time. And would we have heard it over the sound of the Black Jack's own engines?
>>
>>24840088
you are capable of hearing right? you're not a deaf person are you? or have you never been outside before?
>>
>>24840111
Have you never been buttoned up inside a running tank before?

Good luck even hearing your driver, let alone another tank.
>>
>>24840045
Correction it had pretty much exactly the same ratio (10.86 vs 10.95 hp/ton), which you just admitted was adequate, and true the Churchill would drive over almost anything slllllooowwwwly. Regardless my point stands the Tiger was agile enough to be tactically viable with similar power loading and pretty much inferior everything else.
>>
>>24840109
The fact we were buttoned up with no obvious threats and while moving through rough terrain is retarded in and of itself really.
>>
>>24840152
WELCOME TO POOR DECISION MAKING

THE MC IS NOT INFALLIBLE

WHODA THUNKIT
>>
>>24840111

This

>>24840123

If the P4 is loud, the Pershing, buttoned up and running over forest terrain would most certainly have been louder especially with the crew at battle stations.

Not everyone sticks their heads out of their hatches whilst shots are flying. Only Nishizumi's do that.
>>
>>24840152
the fact that we could not choose otherwise and were railroaded into and out of that situation is retarded in and of itself really.
>>
>>24840047
The panzer IV top speed off road is recorded as... 9.9 mph.
>>
>>24840160
>WELCOME TO POOR DECISION MAKING
its not poor decision making if that decision and every other decision was made for us
>>
>>24840169
>9.9 mph.
>16kph

Yeah.
>>
>>24840169

Still faster than the Pershing on and off.
Oh yeah, units.
My cited speed is in Kph
K's
Not miles.
>>
>>24840180
Your very existence is a poor decision that was made for everyone else, but we don't bitch at it like a horny dog now do we?
>>
>>24840190
Derp my bad it's 3 AM here I misread that, still it's not exactly some shockingly huge margin, and probably not nearly enough to allow this to have occurred.
>>
>>24840199
>but we don't bitch at it like a horny dog now do we?
what was that now?
>>
>>24840219
It's still almost twice as fast. And if they're not as limited in choice of paths due to our large size, they can make it up.
>>
>>24839930
here

I love how this keeps on going, and how it has moved from logical arguments to insults and correcting syntax

well done OP, you should have some kind of record for shitstorms at the end of each thread
>>
>>24840236
>It's still almost twice as fast.
traveling through ha heavily wooded forest? yep, sure is twice as fast, and if you think that the difference in size between an M26 and a Pz. IV means they are more free to move in a heavily wooded forest, you're an idiot
>>
The speed and penetration discussion aside, anyone else feel Miho is being portrayed as too good, far too soon?

Considering her rookie crew and previous emotional, as well as confidence issues, basically. Shouldn't she be a wreck for awhile? We really haven't done anything to fix her, and she's not had time to practice.
>>
>>24840254
By Definition, they are less limited thanks to their size you cockfucking niggerslut.
>>
>>24840254
Care to explain why not?
A P4 is really not that large, plus it doesn't have a long barrel 90mm gun to worry about.
Not to mention I was right earlier, the M26E1 is a redesignated Super Pershing. Its weighed down by its larged gun AND heavier armour.

Additionally those speeds cited are off road speeds, not road speeds if you're assuming the arguement is based off of road speeds.
>>
>>24840275
We provided some moral support and talking to her tanker to tanker, it was surprising, and possibly caused some bad decision making.
>>
>>24840275
>Miho is being portrayed as too good, far too soon?

You mean she should not be auto-winning everything? but then she wouldn't be super Miho
>>
>>24840290
>the M26E1 is a redesignated Super Pershing.
no it is not

>AND heavier armour.
no it is not

>Post-war, two M26 tanks had the T54 gun installed, which had the same long gun barrel, but the ammunition cartridge was designed to be shorter and fatter, while still retaining the propellant force of the original round. They also had the muzzle brake and bore evacuator from the M3A1 gun of the M26A1 and M46. The tanks were designated as the M26E1 tank, but lack of funds cut off further production.

all of the T26E series tanks were considered super pershing's, ours is not a T series, it is a modifyed M26, designated as M26E1

ffs our tank is not a super pershing
>>
I think everyone is forgetting that this means we won the bet against Rose

It's like half a meter less in width, which I'd consider the primary issue in moving through a forest. I can't see that being a huge advantage, and at least some part of the trip wasn't even in the forest.

The way it was written gave me the impression we drove in pretty much a totally different direction from what she went. Presumably she was hauling ass away for at least a while because if she stayed and we DID come after she would be totally boned, so she would have wanted to open up some distance.

So we're pretty much moving directly away from each other for some period of time, which means we're opening a pretty large gap. This was frankly why, while I didn't support the forest option I wasn't overly worried about it. We were moving almost directly away from her and if she had any sense she was running away from us, so my only real worry was that we were pointlessly prolonging the fight by retreating.

So we’ve opened up a pretty major gap, and we haven’t seen here and she has no one that can spot us left. Once we move into the woods she should really have zero idea where exactly we are until we make contact with the I-go. This is when the BS comes in because somehow she DOES know where we’ve gone exactly, and she manages to somehow cross back over her entire line of retreat, over our line of retreat, overtake in dense terrain that probably mostly equalizes speed, and position perfectly behind us within SECONDS of her last possible spotter locating us.

The ONLY way this MAYBE works is if:
-She flat out GUESSED, she there were some clearings or paths we might take and just guessed which one we might us.
-She then totally disregarded all caution and advanced flat out toward the position, not sticking to cover or moving at combat speed.
-She then got SUPER ucky that the I-go managed to distract us at just the right moment to give her ANY chance of getting a hit in.

If this occurred and we call her out on it next time I might fee SLIGHTLY better.
>>
>>24840343
Derp meant to reference this >>24840236
>>
>>24840337

Bet was with our loader, Roy, I believe.
>>
>>24840343
>If this occurred
It didn't and it couldn't have, the whole situation does not work, it was not thought out by OP in terms of maneuvering and tactics, it was thought out as "hrm, how can I make Miho win and anon lose"

It was fucking railroaded through and through and there is nothing OP can do that would make it otherwise
>>
>>24840377
it was too, fuck it they all have names starting with R, so we shall take all their money
>>
>>24840381
I don't disagree, but I'm into damage control here. I doubt the OP will retcon it, so at this point the best we can do is call her out on having relied on pure blind luck to win, and not that, that is a VERY bad thing to count on in combat.
>>
>>24840385

And for blamming us, Miho can now treat us to lunch!
>>
ITT: Arguments based entirely around misinterpretations of a wikipedia article
>>
>>24840393
There's the possiblity the ambush spooked some of us so badly we assumed she was more competent than she was and assumed the whole trap scenario.

Though being so shaken by such a thing may have been a product of overconfidence.
>>
>>24840420
The trap scenario never worked anyway the only thing she could have ambushed us with as the I-go which literally could not damage us if you pressed the muzzle to our hull. Following her, keeping her in sight, and keeping out front too her was the blindly obvious move and she would have had no real answer too it.

It wasn't OVERconfidence, it was actually completely irrational cowardice. We ran away from a vehicle grossly inferior to our own, exposing ourselves in the process out of a meta-gaming fear of her character shields. Then again I highly suspect that even if the chase option had been chosen the OP would have railroaded a win for her anyway, but still.
>>
>>24840453
whatever the case people screwed up and made a CREEED out of Miho over an ultimately ineffectual ambush
>>
>>24840467
>CREEED
I just had a mental image of an I-Go poking its turret around a lightpole

But seriously, this thread should serve as a warning, to not believe the "super-Miho" bullshit and to BlackJack, if he continues the railroading, the amount of rage he is going to get will be astronomical, never mind the fact the quest will shrivel and die
>>
The show could justify the character sheilds due to it being a show.

Something as interactive as a quest needs to rely on it less. This victory on Miho's part felt arbitary.
