[Begin reading space control book before heading out]

You decide to begin with the more difficult subject first, that of space control. Deciding that you should get to the basics of it first.

What you discover is that this is a rather meaty tomb. The terminology is a bit difficult, but certainly not as difficult as the book from Langy’s library on rituals. Little more than the first half of the book involves itself explaining the concept of space and spatial relations. Of how the ‘vulgar’ see space, and how it actually works when it is applied to the realm of Aether. The first thing that the book lays clear for you is that in the magical world, the concept of “here” or “there” is useless and inadequate. Space can be more clearly defined in a way as a large loom of sorts, in where each string represents something. Now whenever someone sees, touches, or experiences something directly with his senses, his string is literally touching the object of the other. At that point you cannot literally get any closer to that object in question metaphysically. However it is when one moves away from an object that things begin to get more muddled. From then on, it all depends on how well the caster is able to visualize the target in his mind. If you do not possess an image or information on your target, than absolutely no space magic will work, period. But if you know someone you’ve known your entire life, than you are able to use space magic on them rather easily. This is called a metaspacial relationship.

End result is the more familiar you are with a target (Be it a person, place, or thing), then the greater your success in space magic will be and the more effective it is. It isn’t based on how well you LIKE a person, but rather how well you know them. So even a deep seated fury on a subject works just as well as the more enamoured love.

Seeing as how you want to see the merchant twins later on tonight, you skip ahead a bit in order to find out sort of starter spells you can expect from Space Control. As it seems from water control, you are able to do a few useful tricks at the very least. At the beginner level of space control you’d be able to such things as detect exactly how well one person knows another in terms of a metaspacial relationship, see 360 degrees, see around corners, detect spatial relationships (such as when object is overlapping another in realspace), make accurate mental maps of your entire surroundings (including where people are, where an arrow came from, etc... Sharing a lot in common with Old World ‘Radar’), and the ability to track objects in your immediate area flawlessly. The next bit seems quite a big jump, as if you read it right, it allows you to use literally any of your spells against someone even on the other side of the continent!

Putting the book down for a second, you begin to wonder how you should prepare for meeting the merchant twins.

The good news is unless it is something that could seriously put a dent in the Langy family budget and is legal, you could afford it and acquire it rather easily.

Anyway, one thing we have a really strong metaspacial relationship with is our corpse. It would be neat if we could just teleport it to us and finally have that dealt with. Not that it could ever be that easy, from a storytelling perspective.

The difference is with space control is that you can make it so the source of the attack can originate from a point other than you, even far far beyond your normal sensory range.

The only problem is that it costs aether to use such a thing, a noticable bit too.

OK! First things first! Clothes! You need some good clothes in order to meet up with the twins! While your leather uniform is snappy, that’s only when it doesn’t have its own wear and tear all over it. You need to bring something in style out for the twins!

...Wait a second... You don’t have the slightest clue on what weapon wear on this occasion. Well... As a noble you do somewhat, but only for really formal events such as meeting up with other royalty at gala’s, dinner parties, meeting the peasants, and other events of equal value.

Hm... Now that you’re in Castle Langy as the Royal Family Mage, it shouldn’t be too difficult to get new clothes right? You’re positive they have seamstress maids and butlers here on grounds, and even if they cannot make you anything new right NOW, they should have some replacement dresses. Mary-Anne Langy, Brothen’s mother, was more than happy to lend you some clothes once before at the price of being a dress up doll, so maybe she’d help you again? You maybe you should check and see if your room is now ready. Perhaps there are some simple clothes in there?

Here we go again.

(I typed this up between threads, so sorry it is not relevant to what is happening right now.)
Next time we have the opportunity to train, we need to work on our physical skills.
We've been neglecting them, even though we've been advised multiple times to improve them.

Our axe skill is still the same as when we started the quest, basic.
That means our soliogram soldiers are near useless as anything other than kamikazes, and we'd be in deep shit if we got locked into a melee fight we couldn't escape from.
Getting that (or even a different weapon skill, if for whatever reason we suddenly decide we don't want to use an axe anymore) to 'Good!' is a priority.

Our dodge is at average, but we need to get better.
Mina lost her arm because she had to push us out of the way of a shot we could have avoided ourselves, if we weren't too slow. Upgrading it to 'Good!' is also a priority

Our strength is pitiful, even for an Okarian.
A *mortal* could probably beat us in a contest of strength. Troy, the human rogue *kid*, is probably stronger than us.

We don't even have endurance as a skill yet.
I mean even Amanda has endurance at basic, and she's probably never been in a serious fight before. So we should try to get that to at least average.

And we still need to learn how to fly.

Right now, we've been scraping by on raw magical power alone. But if we want to be a Battlemage, we need to learn how to actually fight, not just how to sling spells at people.

I'm pretty much with you on Brooklyn's build, but I'd probably support learning to fly for faster travel when we're trying to conserve magic. I'd also support upgrading our soligrams (either better durability of better non-suicidal offense capabilities) so they can do a less energy intensive job of stalling enemies while we spell snipe from cover or charge up our more powerful spells. Upgrading our light magic is my next pressing priority though...

You decide to check out your new room first. Not only are you curious about what your new room is like, but also to see if you have any new clothes there.

You head on over to the center tower in the castle, the same place you originally had to climb in order to meet up with Langy. Recalling the lore of this castle, you remember this center power was built specifically so any visiting wizards would not endanger the castle in case the spells proved to be particularly volatile or dangerous.

Before you round a certain bend of the tower, you take a small breath, collecting yours wits before heading around. You know this bend. It’s the same one you killed all those mercs in while escaping. You place your hand against the cold wall of the castle, feeling sick just remembering it.

After another deep breath, you shake your head and walk on up. Slowly bit by bit, heading around the curve to see...

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The entire area looks as if it has been wiped perfectly clean.

“Come on Brooklyn, that happened nearly a week ago...” you mutter aloud to reassure yourself, despite that your body is still shaking. “Get a hold of yourself.”

You continue to climb up the stairs, looking in the room where you had the battle with Langy and the demonic bodyguards. Construction materials of sorts can be seen inside, but no crew. By the looks of it, nothing else has been finished in it so far.

As you head up to your room on the highest room in the tower, you can see a light shining out of it. Heading up to the door, you take a look and peer on inside.

Looking into the room you can see that it appears to be both half clean and half filthy. A red-headed maid is doing her best to clean up the room, but she only appears to be half completed. Indeed, one half the room looks absolutely spotless. The fireplace burns and crackles with the smell of fresh logs while the mirror and alchemist set on the table appears to be spotless. However on the other side of the room the desk and bookshelf appear to be covered with literal years of dust. You’re unable to make out the names of the books on the shelves with how dirty they are.

“”W-Who’s there?” the maid asks turning around.

“O-Oh. I-It’s just me. The new Head Mage. This is my room right?” you ask the maid.

“Yes it is but I’m afraid I’m not done completely cleaning yet!” the maid says giving a small bow in apology. “The rug was so dirty that we had to remove it completely! We have a new rug on order, so you’re free to place an order for anything you want!”

You look down at the large barren stone floor. “I suppose the place is a bit barren yes.”

“O-Oh! P-Pardon me for my manners! My name is Linda Minton! I’m a new maid and have been assigned to be your personal maid by Lady Marina Langy!” Linda says doing a bow in front of you. Looking over her, she appears to be just a little older than the noble girls, probably just gaining the full title and responsibilities of a real maid. Her hair appears to be a duller red than Mina’s, but is tied up into two pigtails and has glasses on her face. Her clothes are mostly covered in dust at the moment but you can see that she has a relatively healthy body frame. Not nearly as athletic as Mina or buxom as Leona, but a rather comfortable middle ground it seems.

I'll give you Dodge, maybe endurance depending on what it does. But Brooklyn doesn't need axe skills when we're throwing around spells that can bring down a mountain.

“In order to get clothes *fast* we needed to use another piece of clothing as the base.” Linda says as she brings out a uniform that looks to be a cross between a maid’s uniform and a witches uniform. A black dress with a small white apron going down which has many pockets. An overcoat is worn over a shirt with long sleeves on it. Completing the outfit is a somewhat scorched but still rather well off pointed witches hat. ...In fact that is your hat. Huh, it appears that survived the house being destroyed it seems.

“I-I apologize if this is not to your taste milady!” Linda says sweating bullets in front of you while holding up the clothing article. “The only clothing we have finished is your nightgown!”

“I’m honored by your words Lady Brooklyn.” Linda says giving a small bow while beaming.

You take the uniform from her, holding it up as you look at it. “Hmm, good base, see if you can swap out the apron for a craftman's tool belt with extra pockets for reagents. I need something a bit sturdier, no offense. But since I’m in a rush it’ll do for tonight.”

“None taken milady. It was only a rush job. We’d have no idea what the Head Magician would’ve wanted ever since Langy killed the last one over 50 years ago.” Linda replies.

“...And they never got another one?” you ask her.

“No milady, he put another one in power.” Linda replies.

“What a paranoid bastard. Oh, and boots. Leather, minimal heel so I can still move quickly as necessary, preferably damage resistant since I will inevitably spill something." you say issueing another clothing order to Linda.

“Yes milady, I shall see that you get proper work boots as well. Is there anything else you’d need?” Linda asks you.

“Well... normally the standard dress for maids is set for the castle, but given your position you’re allowed set my dress to anything the current lord approves of.” Linda says before looking down at her dress, then speaking in extremely formal language. “And if you do not mind me saying so milady, I like my current dress. I may add more pockets if my job with you demands it, but ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of wearing this dress with pride. A peasant like me getting such a respectable job as a private maid is one of the highest honors I could ever ask for.”

“How were you selected?” you ask. You don’t mind, but you do wonder how a low ranking maid (by the sounds of it) became the private maid to a high rank like you.

“I know a small bit of occult theory, or at least the extent one could check out from the public library in town.” Linda replies. "Granted such information in that place most likely pales before your knowledge milady."

I've always been against the Miyian for Amanda. Main reason is because there would be no one to help her or train her up like Erika. Even if we gave her the spell to speak with Miyu, Amanda wouldn't be able to use it. She would have to have someone to cast it for or give her a spark to dump her Aether into it.

I think the main reason people want her to be Miyian is because they want one of every variety of Succubus to start with.
That said, I would think Amanda would find being Miyian very frustrating. She'd like Okarian much better.

“As everyone major in society seems to have it. If you’re a mage amongst human society or even just have enlightened aether you are then automatically moved up several places up in the food chain.” Linda replies. “I admit reading a few stories about such a thing when I was younger and always dreaming of being something like an adventurer, but I have long since grown up from being a child and realized my odds. Even then, becoming the personal maid of the first head Magician Fort Hope has seen in nearly two generations makes me more than happy.”

“So you just wish for power?” you ask her as you turn on your aura sight. You can notice that her aura is violet (excited).

“H-heavens n- I mean of course not milady. Part of the reason I wished to be an Adventurer when I was younger and a maid now is that I enjoy helping others. This life has also all the necessities I ever need. My family and I never need to worry about hunger or cold so long as I maintain this job.” Linda replies.

“How big is your family?” you ask.

“I have 6 sisters and three younger brothers. I am the eldest of them all by at least five years.” Linda says, her aura now a mix of silver (sad) and yellow (idealistic). “Mother helps out around the home but has gotten ill in these past few years, so most of my earnings are sent to my family.”

Heading on over to the bath house, you notice that Amanda isn’t at the front desk. Probably still with Erika and Leona. You make due by giving the bath house your credentials as the Head Royal Mage of the Langy Castle, before putting the money for the private bath house on Ada’s tab. “Your room is number 5, the Mambo room. Shall I escort you there?” the clerk asks you.

“”No thank you, we’ll take care of ourselves.” you say to the clerk before heading off to the private bath suite.

Upon opening the door, you give a small stretch as the hot, moist air rapidly fills your lungs.

There's a cost-benefit analysis to it. Actually taking her out would be a lot of work, they'd lose a lot of guys, they might fail and then have no idea where she went after that, she's presumably got supporters who'd make their life troublesome, attacking her might unite all the Succubutts in the area against them. Demons typically have unique ways to recover their aetheric power. As stated in the Quest earlier, Pride Demons regain aether from managing lessers or simply having their ass kissed by adoring fans/worshippers. Sloth Demons regain aether from an accelerated rate compared to mortals by resting. Envy demons get it from the pursuit of something they want. Greed Demons have extremely large aether pools and regain aether by residing within places of vast knowledge. Rage Demons can get it from violent emotions (normally those in the red spectrum of Aura sight) or by combat.

Succubi are unique in that they can feed of the emotions of nearly anything and have the Drain ability, which allows them to ingest raw Aether (Normally revolting to anyone else, Succubi and the other demons who can ingest it consider it a delicacy). The comes with the downside that they do not naturally respire aether on their own, compared to the majority of other demons which typically have some sort of minor aetheric regeneration when not doing anything strenuous. I planned to introduce how various demons feed as it comes up in the story.

Also even Mina herself would be quick to defuse the "Succubus = slut" rumour. Yes it is true that Succubi can drain Aether far faster via some sort of intercourse, but living off ambient emotions is also completely possible to do. Most Succubi look at this sort of thing like a vegan who only eats bean sprouts.

I noticed a pattern in our magic, controls have passives:
Darkness Control - Can see perfectly in darkness
Light Control - You are able to see perfect through hazy obstructions such as fog (AKA: Any gas)
Water Control - Immune to natural extremely cold temperatures. Resistance to supernaturally based cold/water attacks.

The following have no passive:
Suggestion
Aura Sight
Cloaking

So, what does it mean in terms of passive abilities for the following magic types we know of but haven't gotten?:
Fire control
Earth Control
Wind Control
Healing Magic

I always love stacking a whole bunch of passive abilities together.

Suggestion does have a passive, but it is way up there.

In terms of some passives:

Fire Control: Gain immunity to mundane flame, resistance to supernatural flame.
Earth Control: Cannot be crushed by earth. Even in the middle of a landslide, you'd still be buried and unable to move, but you won't be crushed to death by the pressure and always have breathable air. You also gain a sort of tremorsense which allows you to detect if underground caverns (natural or manmade) exist below your feet.
Wind Control: Immunity to mundane electricity, resistance to magical electricity and wind attacks.
Aura Sight: Not really a true passive, but Erika has a version of it. It just comes with a downside of being unable to read flat surfaces, such as books.
Healing: Gain complete immunity to mundane illnesses and poisons. Gain resistance supernatural illnesses and poisons. Life Control offers similar benefits, but the Healing versions are more powerful due to the focused nature of the magic.

As a supernatural creature, your resistance to mundane illnesses is higher than normal. You won't catch weak things like head colds. Only really major illnesses could fuck you up.

But to mundane fire and electricity? No resistance whatsoever. Your only defense against them will be armour and your supernatural toughness. In which you gain a minor amount as an Okarian (such as being an extremely fit and healthy human), but otherwise it is all you.

Despite their fragility, Okarians are somewhat effective at tanking magical attacks. The resistance gained from controls stacks with the native Okarian resistance to magic (unless the magic is physical based, than the Okarian resistance won't kick in).

But yes, works on mundane heat as well. With fire control average standing under the Mojave desert in high noon will feel like a pleasantly warm day (Filled with monstrous creatures trying to kill you, but win some lose some) or treat an active volcano as a warm bath.

Such things can be mimicked though high enough levels of supernatural toughness, but the controls will get it a lot sooner.

You missed:
Light Control (as well as the fog thing) - Immunity to mundane radiation, resistant to magical radiation.
Water Control (ours is different to Ada's) - Resistance to natural cold. Freezing temperatures feel chilly to you. Minor resistance to supernatural based cold. Can breathe water as if it were air.
Spirit Control - Can see dematerialized spirits and interact with them normally. Can also see whenever a person can channel Aether and how powerful they are.

I'm curious which bits if any of the Space Control list we got at the start of the thread are passive. Almost all of them sound like they could be but that would be insanely powerful. Most of them probably cost aether.

In essence, same power as others but less aether to cast. Even when you were weaker you were able to throw around Annihilator shots, weak lasers, and darkness tentacles all the time without putting a dent in your aether pool. Light cost means you get the aether back fast yes, but for you it allows it to be cheap to the point where you are able to throw them around quite casually. A small additional punch is added as well.

In essence, this is about a 20% discount on casting magic spells.

Gemelli will have enhanced Aether sight by default when I write them.

As for enhancing a control? Such a thing can be done a few ways:

1) A being is HEAVILY slanted towards one Element (EX: A Fire Elemental will have Enhanced Fire Control). In such case it'd be boosted further and they'd be healed by their own element.
2) Be an Okarian or Greed Demon
3) Pick up the [Elemental] Focus ability while knowing the control. This will improve it into the enhanced section.

Did the queens ever tell us HOW to open their prison? IIRC they said they can't open it from the inside and that had a lord (who has since died) tasked with opening it, but I don't remember ever being told the method via which this can be achieved. We really need to know since this is one of our major goals.

I suggested before we use this to provide energy for the queens in lieu of sacrifices and was rebuffed with "large scale importation would be noticed". thread was deleted before I could respond so I would like to clarify now. What I meant was producing it ourselves rather then importing it. If we learn how (presumably it just costs us Aether) we could have Ada arrange for more sports events and use those to make large quantities of Aeth Royale for the queens. A miyan who learns the mana battery tech from Miyu could also do the trick... or we could have the succubi in town on a rota delivering energy to the queens manually.

By hitting it really, really, REALLY hard.

You'd need a damn powerful demon to break it open. Any kind of aether required to break it up will be noticed akin to the way of a nuclear bomb test in today's society. They have plans of how to hide themselves, but considering how drained they are it'd take them years to regain their full aether pools. Right now, Brooklyn going all out cannot open it.

As for Aeth Royale, you never heard of the stuff before Ada mentioned it. Just think of it as a mana potion flavored for demons who can drink aether, while being a horribly overpriced and just as ghastly tasting mana potion for anyone who cannot drink raw aether.

Our short term plans:
1. Deal with paladin
2. Stabilize Ada's rule over this town. (mainly keeping her being a succubus a secret from articus so he does not try to reconquer it... problem is ada is personally ruling so if he comes to empower her we are screwed)
3. Convert our students to succubi (Leona, Amellia, Merchant daughter's twins)
Perhaps we should cut down on acquiring new students and focus on actually finding and recruiting succubi already out there in the world?
If we are going to continue recruiting we should learn the ritual of conversion ourselves so we don't have to reveal the queens to every new recruit.

The above 3 things won't take too much time. So what are we going to do later? So far ideas we seem to have had:
1. Conquer another town. - would have to choose carefully lest we get crushed by pride demons.
2. Travel to old TO (learn from okarians, make peace between succubi, etc...) conquering it is way too risky as it will incite immediate retaliation from a large army.
3. Reacquire our original body - very high priority
4. Free queens. - highest priority since it majorly changes things in our favor but I have no idea how to do that.

5. If we manage to convince articus that Ada is actually a human and the town is still loyal to him then it would be safe to have a timeskip for training. We are a newborn Lord and have been growing at an amazing rate. With more personal power we could do a lot more. - probably dumb idea. Time is not in our favor just yet... on the other hand if we are powerful enough to proove ourselves to be a Lord we would more easily unify warring succubi tribes.
6. Inflame competition between regional lords under articus, then assassinate him in hope regional lords fragment and are thus easier to conquer. - Best bet for actual conquest.
