You are Ssen, a Lamia raised by a human Paladin who adopted you after killing the ones who birthed you. You are grown now, and Father has passed on. After a great deal of work, you have become a Paladin like your Father, and now take up his duties.

You are accompanied by your best friend from childhood, the insect druid Tricia; Mage, a magic user who ran away from his family of cannibal raiders known as the Ghouls (Yes, his name is Mage. It was his idea); Persephone, a 22-year old thief/ex-guerllia fighter (She goes by Peri), and Mari, a 13-year old prodigy scholar/now sniper, who has her mind and soul trapped within Peri's body; and Lea, a deeply religious musician/martial artist, trained by her father, a famous trainer for arena fighters, she's covered from her mouth down in bandages to hide the horrific state her body has become thanks to the 'cures' that saved her from cancer.

Your journey continues...

"Lord Trevor, even if you don't like what I had to say earlier, the fact remains that most of your defenders have left this place, and that there are powerful people looking to capture Mer for their armies. These are not simple poachers or trappers that are searching; these are servants of Citadel who are brimming with all the power that it can muster.

"It is readily apparent that you care about your subjects and their well-being. For their sake, please take the necessary steps to ensure their safety from a large-scale attack.

"Those two lamias that lived there will be leaving with me today so feel free to do what you will with the Cathedral, should you change your mind."

Trevor just turns his back on you. You nod to Dana and the two of you leave.

"I know another girl whose art was criticized! You know, if you saw me out all the way to where I'm going I could introduce you!" You say.

Dana pauses. "Well...I have a duty to open and close the door for the Queens." She says. She opens the door to the Feast Hall. Then she walks through the threshold and closes the door. With her and you on the outside. She smiles. "There. I have done my duty."

She blinks and looks at you. "You sure you need an escort to make sure you leave all that way?" She rubs her arms. "I haven't...really...gone that far." She says. "Also, I can be extraordinarily cross with people, and have very harsh arguments with them...often with my stick." She points to the coral handled mace at her side. "It is a very poor argument sometimes...I just refuse to allow the other side to make any form of rhetoric at all." She frowns. "Also...people make too much sense out there." She says. "I could get confused and make mistakes."

When you get back, the others have the boat ready, and Ssah is wrapped around Lea's arm.

"The little one loves Lea's singing." Tricia says. "Who is this?" She looks at Dana.

"Uh...huh." Tricia says. "So her name's Abby?"

You and Dana roll your eyes at the same time. Humans just can't understand, at least it sounds close enough that Dana isn't insulted.

"I have not felt my arm for the past hour." Lea says. "I want this kid GONE." She takes a dep breath. "His Light is filled with compassion and charity. Children are the virtues of His Light in purest form." She says. "I am a pious and good person, I serve the Light, I can..." She grunts as the kid squeezes.

<Ssah, come here, your hurting Lea and thats not a good thing. Poor human arms are fragile.> You say.

<Auntie! Auntie!> Ssah says as she uncoils from Lea and wraps around you.

<Ssai, what's the word for Ship?> You ask.

<Kassat> Ssai says.

"Kassat." You say.

You hear a scraping sound. You look. Dana's etched the word into the prow of the boat with her claws. She gives you all a cheery wave. "This word also means death by exsanguination by way of perforation in my tongue! Although it's pronounced Kasst-aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh-ttttt."

"Yep..." Mage says. "She's one of us." He shrugs as he casts sail. "So...here's hoping we don't die!"

You set sail.

The first bit of the sailing is pretty fair. It's a matter of getting the right current in open water. Thankfully, with Dana and you in the water, it's not really a problem.

The first problem you hit is when you reach the first heavy coral reef.

Steer around it, guide it through with Dana, or just smash any coral that gets in the way with beacon and Dana helping with her stick?

Well, you get Kassat through the area in one piece. Trouble is that it takes longer than you thought it would.

A few bumps here and there, but nothing harmful.

The next obstacle is nastier. There's a crazy strong riptide in this area. You need to keep the Kassat on course, or at best you'll be pulled into dead water, at worst, back into the coral shores.

Steer it yourself, have Mage use some magic to make a stronger wind. Stay in the water and follow Dana's leads on guiding the ship, trying not to get sucked out to sea yourself.

Marvelous! And you've made up a little of the time that you lost on the reefs!

Now the hard part, you have to leave the ocean and go through a sound for a bit, rapids, rocks, and His Light only knows what else, but if you can speed through this, you'll be spit out back into open water, and you'll Be able to ride the current to get you to Stone Hall and the Leviathan before Adahn and his troops. Should Mage keep up the wind control?
You want to brave the rapids with Dana?
Should Ssai help here?

Yes to all. We need those bonuses

As far as any other tactics taking a Schooner through rapids is stupid. We need kayaks.
>>
>>24695569
We had one of those on our way to this watery hellhole.
>>24695564
Keep the kid in the boat where is marginally safer, do not change the plan unless the changes involve prayer to the Light
>>
>>24695564
In the rapids, wind seems like it'll mostly churn things up, and it'll toss us around more when we need precision control. If the sound has currents moving us in the direction we need to go, cut down on the sail a bit and go with it, though leave enough if we need to furl it back out quickly. Use the blunt end of Beacon as a guiding pole to push us away from rocks if needed.

>>24695564

The ship pitches and rolls, back and forth, and someone, you're not sure who, maybe you, over corrects.

You spin around wildly, and the get pulled along sideways, you look and you see a chance to push off. You push off one way, you'll survive, but you'll lose your lead, and you'll tie Adahn to Stone Hall.

The other way keeps you in the current...but you're going to have to pray that when you slam into the reef, that the ship holds enough not sink. Pushing off wont be hard from that, and you'll keep your lead.

Or you can push really really hard, and grab Mage, and blast your way out.
>>
>The other way keeps you in the current...but you're going to have to pray that when you slam into the reef, that the ship holds enough not sink. Pushing off wont be hard from that, and you'll keep your lead.

He slams the staff against the side of the Kassat.

There's a horrid CRUNCH sound, and you see the mast of the Kassat crack and snap. The boat quietly floats out of the sound and into the current...but you watch in quiet horror as the mast slowly breaks and falls, splashing into the water.

You're still afloat, and in the proper current...but you have lost your sail.

Dana pulls herself up onto the ship. "You lost your big bed sheet and stick. They were important, weren't they?"

<Wanna do that again! Whoosh, splash, CRUNCH!> Ssah says.

"Well...that's it." Peri says. "It was nice knowing the Leviathan and Stone Hall." She sighs. "Motherfucking cock-sucker!" She kicks the side of the boat.

Mage just goes to the stern, he's not looking at anyone.

Because he might just boil the water away.
>>
>>24696714
Snatch the mast and sail out of the water. We're *ludicrously* strong at wrapping. If the main mast is all that broke, and the bits holding the sail unfurled are still in place, we can manage this.

Between that, the oars, and Dana and Ssai, we can manage this.
>>
>>24696831
Retrieve the sail. We can still use it.

The mast... I dunno.

"I'm afraid that thing was what allowed the wind to push us. We could move it so the wind pushed us differently. Without it we cannot move as we want." You say.

You jump into the water. "Come on, help me get the bed sheet."

You and Dana dive down and grab the sail. Your claws are invaluable to cutting it free. The mast is way too heavy, even with your tail. It's also covered in ropes and metal, and you can warp around it teasy enough...but you can't get it to go up, even with Dana's help. You write it off as a lost cause, but you're able to salvage most of the sail.

You come back up. The others have gotten out the oars and the poles and are trying to row.

"Dana, you looked like you took a hard hit, you good?"

Dana winces as she touches her arm. "Not broken, but very very hurt."

"Everyone else?" You ask.

You get declarations of 'Fine' or 'good' from everyone.

<How are you two doing? No damage done I hope?>

<We're fine.> Ssai says as she rows.

"Mage? You okay?" You ask.

No answer from your brother.

You head over to him. "Mage, stop sulking, this is my fault. I got too greedy."

"Every time...every time you NEED me to do something...I botch it." He looks out into the ocean. "Now people are going to die, and we can't stop it, and don't say that it's all you fault, because some of it IS my fault. You needed me to step up...and I botched it."

You hug his shoulders and you and he stare out at the water. You see a bird soar past.

Deep in your Lamia Brain, you get an idea.

"They don't flap...they soar...like a kite." You look at your brother. "Mage, could...could we make that," You point at the huge drying sail. "Into a kite?"

Mage stares at it. Then he tilts his head. He nods. "We'll need a steady wind for this..." He nods. "I can do that...yeah...make sure someone keeps me from nodding off, but we could do it...but where are we going to get the rope?" He asks. "It went down with the mast."

You nod. "I'll think about that." You say. You head down to Dana who's drinking a healing potion that Tricia gave her. "Dana, can you get any sea animals to help us? Dolphin, or something to pull?"

"How would I do that?" Dana looks around. "I don't know these waters, and I don't see any convenient dolphins. If some show up, maybe...but we are pretty alone out here for now." She shrugs. "I could go looking, but I don't want to lose the Kassat."

First of all, make a mental note to start carrying a large length of rope in our pack; we're clearly failing as an adventurer if we don't have any.

Meanwhile, other approaches:

Dive for the rope and cut/bite through the knots holding it to the mast.

Tie some lengths of spare clothing together.

Use strips of the sail itself, carefully twisted for strength.

Full-length Lamia chain, with a strong enough wind.

"So called because of how tiny the 'threads' of it are...but if you grab the root of the plant, and tie it together, and make sure that the temperature doesn't exceed 93 degrees...then those work as ropes. Ten minutes later, the Kassat has it's new...propulsion. You've anchored it to the positions that Mari say will work and wont rip off from the ship. Mage has taken position, and everyone's waiting for your go.

Lea bows her head. "Amen." She says. "Punch it, Mage."

Mage casts his winds, and the sail fills, it rises up and fills the sky...and for a moment, there's nothing and you have a shred of fear...and then...the Kassat shifts...and pulls...and then you're moving!"

After a few moments, you just hang on and then the cheering and clapping and a punch of people patting Mage on the back or kissing his cheek. Mage looks focused. He's not showing off, or forcing things, but he wants nothing more than to get to the city on time.

And by His Light...it looks like you might actually make it.

As the day goes on, Dana explains that you wont run into Adahn and his army, odds are good by now that you've already passed him.

Mage takes the occasional break when it looks like the regular wind will catch the kite. Everyone's more than happy to let the guy have a few moments...and you realize, as the sun has gone down and you're piloting with Dana's help and moonlight...that you are crazy tired too.

You head down into the small cabin below, and before you can see or call for Tricia, you feel two bodies coil around you and two bronzeish-greenish heads of hair are right below yours.

<Goodnight Auntie.> Ssah says.

<Thank you, Auntie.> Ssai says. <It's been cold for a while.>

Tricia sticks her head down and blinks at the scene. She smiles. "I'll go keep Mage company." She says.

You sleep, and the hearts of your kin go into sync like normal.

yes. 100%.

This is an awkward and wondrous joy. These kids are damn great.
>>
So guys, I have a crazy plan to neutralize the Leviathan if we can convince the Mers not to attack it.

We spoil all of its food and water supplies. That way it either has to sail all the way back to Citadel, or it'll be forced to dock in Stone Hall to resupply, and HEARTS AND MINDS them.

Either that or they just decide to shell us.
>>
>>24697880
Not bad.
>>
>>24697880
Why is this necessary again? Is the Leviathan an enemy ship?
>>
>>24697891
>>24697880
Can tricia still do the send-bugs-to-eat-it trick with food supplies, like she offered before?
>>
>>24697897
no, just a citadel ship. one big enough to kill a city.
>>
>>24697880
Can we try talking to the captain first before we take action against it? Everyone wants to go right for action on this...
>>
>>24697897
It's Citadel's ship, yes. It's sitting in Stone Hall harbor ready to shell it the moment true civil war breaks out.

>>24697898
Indeed, and it wouldn't even be gross like last time; we're not talking about bodies, we're talking about food.
>>
>>24697914
I'd like to, but at the same time I'm really tempted to go for a stealth mission. If we show ourselves to talk, and then later something goes wrong with the ship, it'll look suspicious enough to possibly start the civil war early.
>>
>>24697931
Wroth the risk personally.
>>
>>24697931
>>24697914
of COURSE we talk first. we're a paladin.
>>
>ball made of snakes, women, and children

I don't know how I'd react to this if I broke into it.
>>
>>24697939
>>24697941
I'm not saying we *sink* the ship without warning. I'm saying we could sabotage the food stores, forcing them to land (they won't be able to sail back to Citadel, either), and then have a nice conversation with them in a friendly port rather than on their ship.
>>
One benefit of getting the Leviathan into the harbor... we can get everyone off the ship in case Adahn doesn't listen to us at all. In case Peace is riding herd on him or something.
>>
>>24697966
Or we invite the Captain some officers and men over for a dinner party and speak there? There's way to speak with them that don't involve action against them.
>>
>>24697988
Plausible, if they'll come. Seems unlikely, but worth a shot.
>>
>>24697966
>>24697988
It's the not trying the other routes that's killing me about this. People seemed to want to jump right for one type of action without thinking of others.
>>
We should head straight to Adahn after dropping off the kids. We can't let them actually get in view of the city. An army at a city of Citadel's gates would be enough to get Citadel's own army to act even if we defuse them.
>>
>>24698029
yes, indeed.
>>
>>24698029
Agreed.
>>
>>24698029
Fourthed.
>>
Has anyone thought about the issue of getting a boat into port at all with the Leviathan right there? It's likely to try to stop us.
>>
>>24698053
we can talk to them when they try, then.

More convenient for us.
>>
>>24698053
the only reason it'd blockade the city is if we were in open revolt... and we are a paladin.
>>
Your shoulder is gently squeezed as you wake up. You see Tricia's smiling face. "Hey. We're here." She says.

You wake up the other two, who are reluctant to uncoil around you, but eventually let go with promises for fresh fish via Dana.

You head up and see a welcome sight. Stone Hall in the morning dawn. A glittering city on the water, no longer the uniform buildings of clean stone and recognizable features, but a mess of stone, wood, a little metal here and there. And all of it jumbled int a mess, a smell that's sour and sweet at the same time, and the sounds of hundreds of people arguing with hundreds more coming from the park, and even more people from the market, hawking different visions of the future, begging for that little kick they need to get going.

And you can even see Isen's mural from here, that or he had a new one painted of him.

This is your city, you helped make this...you can't help but feel a little proud.

"Mage is exhausted." Lea says. She has your brother over her shoulder. He's out cold. "We're rowing into dock."

It takes a little bit, and the Kassat has docked. Isen has said that the Dawnchasers get free mooring...but fixing the Kassat's not going to be cheap. Hopefully Avery has your stipend...or Barney has an idea. Either way, this busted old ship is a Dawnchaser now.

You hope Lightmare's okay back at Coral Gate.

"Where to first?" Lea asks. "Lighthouse, the Manor, Granny, send a message to the Leviathan, or try and head off Adhan and the Mer?" She says. "We've got about six hours before the show happens, you don't have to do everything yourself, Ssen." She says. "But I'm taking Mage to the Lighthouse. He needs rest if he's going to be any use to us."
>>
>>24698067
Drop the kids off at grandma's house
>>
Hmm, six hours. Lets only spend 2-3 here. Send Lea to the Manor. She is to explain that there might be an attack soon. However we might be able to head it off if we can talk to the leadership. So keep things quiet. No need for a panic

We should take the kids to Granny. As for the others they can split up between each other.
>>
>>24698067
Ssen will drop off the kids with Granny. Tricia can come if she wants. Peri/Mari and Lea should head over to Manor let Isen know what's going. Well, after Lea drops off Mage. After that... head off to Adhan and the Mer. Hopefully we'll catch them before they're in view of the city.
>>
>>24698067
"Before anything else, we need to get Ssai and Ssah over to Granny; if anything goes wrong, I don't want them in harm's way. Tricia, maybe you should come with me, and make sure I don't do anything stupider than usual this time. Then we need to cut off Adahn and the Mer, and figure out what to do about the Leviathan ourselves, whether parley, sabotage, or making it look worse than Kassat does now.

Maybe if we get some downtime after that, we could check on the progress of helping Mumei out. I feel bad for running out without finishing that."

We can, and probably should, take the land route back. So we don't urgently need to fix Kassat.
>>
>>24698067
We should deposit Ssai and Ssah with Granny. First off she needs to know what's about to come this way, and second I'd prefer if the kids were out of the way when Adahn arrives. Lea can take Mage back to the lighthouse, but I think Tricia and Dana should come with us: reason being that some folk might not take kindly to us bringing two more lamias into the city.
>>
>>24698138
This sounds like a sensible way to divide up tasks.
>>
>>24698067
"If we have time, I should probably drop off the kids. Granny would be angry if I did it by proxy and didn't absolutely need to. Check in with barney about ideas on the ship while you're there, lea. Peri and meri- you're good with finances, go inquire at the manor about our stipend, and ship usage. I doubt that ours will, er, be functional in time. Dana, please go with lea and get acquainted with the lighthouse. It's a home to us, when we're not running around like maniacs. Feel free to look around the city, but if you're coming with us for the discussion with the army, be back at the lighthouse or with us within four hours. Tricia, you'll come with me and do all the cutesy things that are distracting when we're out on in dangerous places. Make sure we all meet up within four hours at the docks or at the lighthouse, because we want to head this army off at the pass."

Everyone got it? Good. Break!"

If you guys want, we could make tricia send a message to the leviathan instead of hang out with us, but I can't think of a good one.
>>
>>24698171
>Tricia, you'll come with me and do all the cutesy things that are distracting when we're out on in dangerous places.

That's amazingly demeaning.
>>
>>24698187
Well, we don't have to use it. The original wording was "Make up for lost cabin time", but that was worse.
>>

Maybe instead we could have Tricia scout out the Leviathan. We had all those half-baked plans and having some more information would be good.
>>
>>24698212
Yeah. Tricia can do something about the leviathan in all these plans, as she's sort of the extra here.

We just need to select an action.
>>
Thought of something also. Maybe we should have Tricia get checked out by Granny. I know Mari said that everything was green, but it never hurts to ask another to confirm.

>>
>>24698212
That really can wait until after dealing with the Mer army.
>>
>>24698258
Yeah. The highest priorities are getting the kids safe and introducing them to Granny, and intercepting Adahn and the Mer.

"If we have time, I should probably drop off the kids. Granny would be angry if I did it by proxy and didn't absolutely need to. Tricia, you'll come with me and make sure that I don't do anything stupider than usual this time. Also, I'd like Granny to look at you.

Lea, check in with Barney about ideas on the ship while you're there. And have him or Ambrose fix Mage up and make sure he wakes up in time.

Peri/Meri- you're good with finances, go inquire at the manor about our stipend, and ship usage. I doubt that ours will, er, be functional in time, so get us one. Tell Isen about what's going on as well, if he's here.

Dana, please go with Lea and get acquainted with the lighthouse. It's a home to us, when we're not running around like maniacs. Feel free to look around the city, but if you're coming with us for the discussion with the army, be back at the lighthouse or with us within four hours.

Make sure we all meet up within four hours at the docks or at the lighthouse, because we want to head this army off at the pass."

Everyone understands, and they take off. You head down to the tunnels, through the halls, and into the Undercity. Granny is in her photo room, reminiscing with the help of a little good whiskey. She turns to look at you, and the cup of liquor drops to the ground when she sees the girls.

She's across the room in an instant, scooping up the pair in a massive hug. She's whispering things to them in the lizard tongue, so softly that you can't hear, but you have a pretty good guess.

She instantly shoves by you, both girls in her arms still, and goes to her kitchen. You two follow, and you see that Granny has sit the pair down and is putting large amounts of stored meat in front of their faces and demanding that they eat.

"We better break in." Tricia says. "She looks like she may be at this for a while." A big smile on her face. "Did you see the look on her face?"

Yeah, it was even more shocked than when you broke out the barbs.

Your right. Damn our time constraints.

Granny. I'm sorry to interrupt but there is a few things we need to talk with you about. The first was about letting the girls stay with you but I'm guessing that is now moot.

The second is that me and Tricia are now Bonded. There were some complications so I wanted to get your opinion.

The third thing is that there is an army headed here. Mer. Lead by Adahn the former Lightbringer. Once we are done here we will go to talk to him. But if we fail to convince him to throw off Peace's shackles we might be facing seige. You need to prepare, quietly to not provoke a panic.

>>24698445
I'm pretty sure the attack is on the Leviathan first. Which is something we need to stop at all cost. That's when they'll just shell Stone Hall.
>>
>>24698474
if we fail with Adahn we move on to the 'capture' or 'contain' Leviathan plan.
>>
>>24698486
we COULD give the leviathan a heads-up about the army, and inform them it's NOT a part of stone hall at all.

but that would increase fish casualty.
>>

ALSO: We should send a man to fetch the lightmare. Or feed the lightmare. bring meat, not peasants.

>>
>>24698445
"Granny....Granny...Scheherazade!" You shout.

Granny pats the pair on the head and goes to you and Tricia. She hugs you tightly for a moment. <Thank you, for this.> She says. <I will never forget this.>

"Yes, I'm glad." You say as you pull free. "I'm sorry to interrupt but there are a few things we need to talk with you about. The first was about letting the girls stay with you but I'm guessing that is now moot."

Granny nods. "They need to be taught human tongue, good manners...so so much." She seems almost giddy at the idea. "I'll make sure they end up almost as 'civilized' as you...maybe less reckless."

You let the jab slide. "The second is that me and Tricia are now Bonded. There were some complications so I wanted to get your opinion."

Granny looks at Tricia and does a double take. "Oh...my." She looks at her up and down. "This is...this is something I haven't seen for ages. Have you been able to see though the bugs' eyes yet? Shift it so your palms are filled with stingers? Add to your swarm?"

Tricia shakes her head.

Granny nods. "It took the other Wasp Witch a century to get that much control...of course she just had half her body." Granny nods. "I'd love to sit you down and see what is what."

"Well, that's the problem. The third thing is there's an army headed here. Mer. Lead by Adahn the former Lightbringer. Once we're done here we'll go to talk to him. But if we fail to convince him to throw off Peace's shackles we might be facing siege. Or, worse case scenario, an assault from the Leviathan. You need to prepare, quietly to not provoke a panic." You say.

Granny nods. "I'll call the Lizard people back and have the Undercity and the tunnels prepared for a siege. I'll also have them seal off the sea exits." She sighs. "I suppose you two need to rush off, don't you?" She hugs you again and kisses your cheek. <You know...I was wrong Little Snake...you aren't one to devour the world. You're the serpent who shakes the world when she moves.>

>>
>>24698644
Depends on the definition of 'world ending.' To many the world is ending. Citadel isn't taking care of all their problems. To others a new world is being born in front of their eyes. With new chances and hope.

"... His Light, why can't we ever have a normal day?"
>>
>>24698599
"One last thing though." You say. "How could you NOT tell me that my name was NAME?!" You snap.

Granny lets out a peal of laughter. "And miss this moment?" She laughs again. "Little Snake, you must know what your real name now is, yes?"

"Fourth Child, Monster." You say.

"Pssh. Your real name is Ssen Patrick. What your birth parents designated you as is irrelevant. Do you know how many Ssai, Ssah, and other types of that are?" Granny shakes her head. "My name is Ssai, as well...but you're the only one of our kind..." Granny chokes back laughter. "To have the name of Ssen. A Name unto itself." She laughs.

Tricia giggles a little and gives you an apologetic grin.

"Anyway, you can give me grief about that joke later." Granny says. "Go, you have to stop a war. Make..." She chokes back laughter. "Make an even greater name for yourself!"

My name is Adahn.

I was a Lightbringer, once. You know how the story goes. Well, it didn't go that way for me.

Everything I ever loved was lost. Destroyed one after the other. It seemed that whatever I did, whatever I touched, whoever I loved, was taken from me. Killed. Burned. Lost. I couldn't understand. Nothing made sense. Why only me? Was I born to suffer? To fail? The destiny of the Lightbringer was the only meaning my life ever had, and even that was taken from me. No more. Now, I start taking back.

I stand now upon the brink of Destiny. Stone Hall was where it all began, and where it will now end and begin again. I failed here once. I will not fail again, whatever the cost.

But there is one small snake in the grass. A paladin, one who it seems met only success where I knew only sorrow. It seems she is here in defense of Stone hall, and is now delivering her terms.

She offers me...

...candy?

Night Echo, damn near killed me with Dawww overload.
>>
>>24698848
And that's how you break a story.
>>
>>24698859
I had to go and pace about after that lamia-pile thing. Just too good. Secondary objective: Meet your own people has been completed, and it's way satisfying.
>>
>>24698848
If this sugar-sticks thing works, I we can declare it an authentic miracle.
>>
>>24698829
Yeah. It felt...happy. Not the Citadel happy of everything going perfectly (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Nice_Place_to_Visit), just plain happy. With a healthy helping of d'awww.
>>
>>24698893
We better not have to make a fucking roll on this.

That would be bullshit as fuck
>>
>>24698900
oh we'll TOTALLY have to roll on it.

Just so the dice can say no.
>>
>>24698898
What made the entire thing feel more happy is we didn't give a single shit when the mast broke. I love it when we surmount terrible problems like that.
>>
>>24698898
That's what you get when you change your perspective. Suddenly, this isn't an endless fight to stop everything from going the slightest bit wrong, but it's simply exploration, discovery, and hard work. We earned this.
>>
You know what?

That guy really wasn't that far off when he called us "dangerously crazy". Given our record, it is ENTIRELY true.
>>
>>24698936
Yeah. The kite
>>24696783
>>24696928
was a stroke of brilliance.

>>24698938
Exactly.
>>
>>24698814
I do like this song. I see it being played during the 'Flight of the Kassat' bit.

Email is included in post.

Also, may I just say a deep thank you to you guys? It's having such a group of creative fun players that makes this such a joy, and I really feel happy each time I see the 'I've caught up' message. You guys keep me wanting to come back. Thank you.
>>
>>24698976
I want you to want to keep coming back.

I am doing my very best to use psychology to keep you coming back.

You are a fixture of my entertainment schedule now. I hope this and its derivative works continue on for quite a long while.

>>24698967
Let's go fly a kite!
>>
>>24698976
We keep coming back because you make it feel so good to be creative in this beautiful and terrible world you've created, and it feels so alive that we want to go poking around in every corner of it. And the characters! By the Light, the characters!
>>
>>24698976
I just wish you'd answer some peoples concerns about game mechanics is all... so doesn't rear its head every few threads. Putting ones head into the sand and not saying anything isn't going to make those post go away. Just saying.

Otherwise love the characters man. Really the main the reason I come back.
>>
>>24699035
I don't have the impression that Echo is sticking his head in the sand; I have the impression that he's experimenting with ways to fix it. Notice all the very visible modifiers we got this time, including some for decisions, help, good reasoning, and the like?
>>
>>24699043
It would help to say something at times as 'The GM' though. It tends to keep people from going on rants for 50 post or so.
>>
>>24699035
I like the characters, sure. I'm extremely interested in making sure Ssen and her friends wind up with goodend, if not bestend. Or at least not mega-hitler-stalin-snake-queen-bitch end.
>>
>>24699051
yes. Sometimes we need some GM information when we're making our crazy theories.
>>
>>24699055
That's the really disturbing thing; the bad end here isn't the apocalypse, it's the lotus eater.
>>
>>24699057
that's ONE of the bad ends. Not the one I'm hoping the avoid though.
>>
>>24698976
Meta question for you, Echo, if you don't mind answering it: is Ssuad Ssen's "true name", for magical purposes?
>>
>>24699106
It probably is. Either that or Ssen Patrick.

If neither of those work, then it might be paladin serpent.

Or Snake, as tricia calls us.
>>
>>24699137
Speaking of which, now that we know Granny's true name, we might be able to surprise her the next time she pulls magic on us when we're sparring.
>>
>>24699145
Have we come to a decision on whether we're ever going to learn magic ourselves?

The entry requirement is... kinda high.
>>
>>24699106
In regards to Citadel Magic rules, Ssuad is Ssen's true name.

In regards to OTHER magics (Dragon, Ghoul, Leviathan, Phoenix Empire, Etc.) that might not be the case.
>>
>>24699156
Now that I'm thinking of game rules and such:

We totally missed the coral gate optional boss. Didn't even notice it.
>>
>>24699155
I'm still in favor of eating Peace... but we might get the chance at Comedy.
>>
>>24699156
Thank you.

>>24699155
Comedy and Tragedy both do magic. And Old One only wanted their heads.

That's not so much "high price" as "perk".
>>
>>24699168
We still have to confront him later. We can't leave the Mer under his command.
>>
>>24699168
We're going back.
>>
>>24699168
No, this IS the optional boss. Coral Gate is the optional level. You got Dana and the Kassat. The Boss bit is incoming...do you think that the Leviathan is FULLY staffed by innocent soldiers...or are there some people there, on that ship crewed by close to 100, who are /passionate/ about their work?

And you think that all the Mer are free or do a few have white scales?

To say nothing about Adhan. You know how at the start of a story, the villain's nigh-invincible right. Hopeless Boss Fights are common things.

This isn't an elegant stage play put up by Rage, where every move is calculated, and the casualties are minimized, and all the Lightbringers need to do is to come in and follow the steps.

No no no...this is a living stage.

This time...people have been WARNED that you could show up and have planned accordingly.
>>
>>24699229
Oh dear, we do badly enough when we're dealing with the Dramatae's fuckups as it is.
>>
>>24699229
>go get ready for bad
>come back
>oh no, the boss fight is TOTALLY COMING YOU GUYS

Oh great. I stopped worrying for a second there. just a split second.
>>
Please tell me that when the others went to collect our stipend they warned Paladin Avery about the impending attack?

If we fail we'll need all of the city defenders ready to hold back the attack. We also shouldn't discount the possibility of an attack by land at the same time if the plan is to wipe out Stone Hall not just Leviathan.
>>
>>24699229
Yup, I thought that all might be the case. Gotta remember we aren't interrupting this before the story can start or cleaning up after the story has finished. We're at the beginning. Where the BBEG starts his campaign of terror.

Also I hope while they may have accounted for us coming... but not the approach we will use. Or the fact that we actually are setting up contingencies instead of simply rushing in where angels fear to tread.
>>
>>24701159
If worse comes to worse and we fail to stop all this, in the fray, do we kill or rescue Adahn? Rescuing him will help toward winning him to our side but lose us the spin war as the image of "A monstrous pretender paladin (already infamous for inciting bloody revolution and cultural upset) rescuing the shaper of darkness" is just so damnably convenient for the Dramatae. Ending Adahn will throw another huge wrench in the Dramatae's plans in the EXACT way that Purple Sands did, but goes against everything we've been fighting for.
>>
>>24701545
remember Mage's dad? How we literally could not kill him until we had destroyed the magic that was holding him together? Ya I'm betting its going to be the same thing.

Though with Citadel being in the state its in I wonder how many deaths it retcon.

Still I'm hoping we can get through to him with Sugar sticks and Ava.
>>
>>24702079
Ava's still in Bronze Peak if I recall.
We're in Stone Hall. That's a 3 day trip.
We have 3 hours until the Mer army is upon the city.
