(( This is the second thread in this series. First is https://archive.foolz.us/tg/thread/24489854/ here.))

You shift on your hoard of pennies, awakening. Everything is fuzzy, and your stretch, opening your wings as you refresh your muscles from the night's sleep, a small growl rising from your throat as you grip the floorboards with your claws. Wings flutter, and you feel them catch more air than before.

Hrn. You've grown, in the night. Previously, you were the size of a middling dog, maybe three or four feet long, and two or three tall. Now, standing on your hinds, you might match a small human in height, and your depth is rather respectable. You're the size of a rather large dog, the biggest breeds.

However, you are still hungry. And soon, you think, you will outgrow your current lodgings. You can hear the young woman cooking downstairs, something that smells of egg and, ah, meat.
Stat sheet in next post.
>>
>>24623268
>Yearling's Stat sheet:

20 Mental Power
10 Limit
1 Bonus

Powers:

>Hypnosis
Hypnosis is somewhat of a misnomer: It forces the mind to turn on itself, sending it into a state of deep sleep. Only works on sentient beings.

>Telepathy
There are two uses of Telepathy. The first, which always costs 1 Mental Power, forms a link between user and nearby target until they move far enough away from one another, or are seperated by a dense material.
Further dedication of mental power allows for greater distance. Current base range is 20 meters ( 1 base, 1 bonus x 10 meters ) and maximum is 110 meters (10 limit, 1 bonus, x10 meters)

Hoard is currently worth 2 gold.
Current lair is an attic, which has the benefit of a steady stream of easy to hunt food in mice and rats.
>>
>>24623293
Finally:

In order to use a mental power, roll "dice 1dx+y" in the email field, where x is the desired amount of Mental Power to use at once (current limit is 10) and y is your bonus (1). Be aware that using more than 20 points a day is highly inadvisable.
>>
>>24623293
Sneak over and see what is cooking.

can we use telepathy to read mind/thoughts? if we can, use it on the lady to learn about her before we talk to her. if not, use telepathy and say hi, and tell her we are the spirit/protector/owner of this place, and all we want to know is what is she doing

You slink carefully down the steps, draconic form well-suited at this age for stealth - and your color helps hide you in shadow a great deal. You finally get a good look at your host.

You don't know what humans are beautiful or not, but this one strikes you as a weakling and therefore ugly. She is slim of form, without muscle, wild red hair that is easy to grab cascading from her head. She wears a heavy dress of drab color. You almost scoff at her weakness, finding it an insult that she survives on so little while you, a strong and powerful dragon, must hide in darkness.

Contacting her might be a very large step. Are you sure you want to?
>>
I seem to remember our size being described as that of a large cat. I didn't take that to mean between three and four feet long and two to three tall. Or was that including the tail in the length? Ah, details.

Anyway sneaking to get a look at the young lady and then attempting telepathic communication seems the most direct course of action. If she reacts poorly we are likely large enough to maul her to death. Claws and teeth and all.
>>
>>24623488

"Red Lady. I demand your meat and egg food."

>>24623488

>>
>>24623488
yep. as long as she don’t know where we are, we are safe. even if she freaks out and tell everybody, we told her we are the protector of this land (and we will explain that we talk about the town, not the house) so they want search in our lair

>>24623526
>>24623528

>>
You recall the speech of the other humans, and while you cannot yet emulate it, you can almost certainly do something similar with your mind. Slipping further into darkness, you connect your minds on a very limited level.

"Red lady. I demand your meat and egg food."

You can hear the woman jump a little as she changes the burners. You think she is looking around, but you can't tell. She's not moving, however.

"Who are you? How did you get in my house?" she asks.

"I am a protector of this land." from mice and rats, true enough, you think inwardly, "And I have been here since my inception." also true!

She nervously serves herself.

"I will not serve something without a name." she says, though nervousness tinges her voice. Hrn. A name?

>ask her about what have changed in my land in the time i was gone. ask her if any other humans live on my land as well
After much discussion, you have a mental image of the surrounding area. However, the young woman (The weakling Ysabell, rather) notes that she does not often socialize with her neighbors. You know there are several entrances to something called a 'sewer' nearby, and the names of nearby streets.

You ask about Paladins, and learn that they are enforcers of the will of a greater thing than her, and are very powerful. You note to avoid Paladins at any cost. Unless they are recently dead. In which case you assume they will taste fantastic.

You have a few hours before the weak human finishes making the pie meal, and street traffic seems to be rather sparse at this hour. What do you do?
>>
Maybe we could go out to further explore the town. I mean, we're not going to sit there all day, are we?

>>24624029
Why not? >>24623238 gave me the idea. Not that it matters very much to me.
>>
>>24624038
You clamber from the window to the roof, sticking low to the house, looking around. Your mental map is indeed accurate, but the city is huge - the area you know of is only at most 1/50th of it. It's daunting, but not mind-shattering. You always knew the world was vast, simply because if it were not, it would be a disappointment to conquer.

You feel that openly walking the streets might be chancing it, on second thought, but there are many alleys and streets, so you slip into one and look around. Idly, you prey upon large rats that you find, eating them with joy of victory and power.

(Eaten 1 self-mass.)

You chance upon what the woman described as a sewer entrance. She mentioned that they were infested with goblins, who steal from humans and make themselves a pest. Which means, likely enough, that they have shiny things they stole. This appeals to you, on a very basic, draconic level. You also wander the alleys along Sally Street and Book Way, the latter of which has a lot of rectangular light things in its alley.

You slip into the sewers. The smell is cloying and deep, like the depths of some foul bin. The fluid that runs down the center of the large cave is unthinkably filthy, so you avoid it, looking around. Eventually, you find a few goblins, slightly smaller than you. Each holds a tiny dagger, and they all have sharp, sharp teeth and sharpened nails. You hang in the darkness, watching them.

You are interested, mostly in the shining objects about their waist, glimmering in the dark. They seem to be arguing over something, but you cannot see it or understand their yappy language.

With a great deal of effort, you connect to all three at once.
(A note: You have 16 Mind Power now. Be careful.)

"I am Eminence, the golden eater!" you roar in their minds, but they look confused, looking around with wide eyes. They don't seem to understand your language, and your mind is suddenly assaulted by theirs. Yipping, and yapping, filling your thoughts and your mind. It confuses you, and you forcefully cut off the link, groaning. It appears that communication requires more prescience than you expected. Still, they left the thing they were arguing about, so you walk over after they flee. It is long and pointed, shining. It appears to be something like the long shiny things you saw in Ysabell's food place not long ago, but more... dangerous. It shimmers invitingly.

A large, large room, open and forgotten of purpose, greets you. It is free of the stench you found before, and tall. The room could easily fit you, and your horde, and it isn't that far to move it, either. It appears that you can lift your own weight, but not with ease. Your limit appears to be just that, and lower than that takes a solid effort down to a fourth of it.

You can run decently fast, about 10 meters every few seconds without effort.
You cannot fly just yet. However, you can glide fairly well.
You have enough control over your voice to modulate volume and harshness of tone, but can only make meaningless noise.

Finally, you move up again, putting the coins in the book and clambering back into the attic carrying it all. The coins clink into your hoard pleasantly, and you place the thing next to it. The hoard grows! You jump aroiund it a little in excitement.

You can smell the meat pie, which makes you stop dancing and start drooling.

try to use the telepathy to find if there is anyone nearby (just scanning for brains). After that, block and cover all the windows and doors.

>>24625519
Checking for individuals nearby, you find none. Looking at the walls, you see windows, but do not know how to open or close them, or even that it can be done. So you just happily nosh on your pie, growling steadily as you feast. It tastes even better than before, with a different meat than you remember, and soon enough, you carry it up the stairs and drop it next to the long shiny. It feels good to be rich, you think, as the sun begins to set.
>>

How about we just look around and eat the stuff if no-one is looking. Closing windows without telekinesis would be really awkward.

>Why hunt them? Scare them to death, and earn their service
You think, momentarily, on scaring your foes into service. It appeals as a dragon, but it falls apart when you realize you simply cannot commune with goblins. They speak a language you do not quite understand.

The tin sits next to your hoard, and you look it over. You think, for a moment, cutting out parts and pieces, working away until it fits firmly on your head, points jutting sharply up. Yes. This pleases you. The rest is polished with some work, and you smile at your own visage. You have some energy for the night.

The book rests next to your hoard.
>>
>>24626001

Tear out pages and start folding them into shapes.
>>
>>24626001
We might cant talk with them, but violence is an universal language. They don't have to do anything useful- you can just toy with them. When we will be able to talk with them, they will be loyal to us
>>
>>24626035
No, no, we need the book to learn how to read
>>
>>24626071
Yes! Do not destroy the book! We need to learn its language!
>>
>>24625881
>Why hunt them?
Because we need to eat a whole lot. Rat's won't suffice and goblins are the next logical step. Even if our human feeds us some delicious stuff it won't sate our needs.
>>
>>24626061
Yea, we should just scare the goblins again and again until the just freeze from feed when they see us. So when we could talk with them, we will rule them
>>
>>24626178
>>24626071
You decide against harming the book, instead looking through it. The pretty pictures in it are of powerful creatures on mounds of gold, looking down on mere humans with sneers as they should. You are filled with pride for your brothers, and hope to one day grow as large and magnificent.

(Pastebin unlocked for end of thread.)

>>24626224
>>24626230
You mentally debate whether to rule the goblins or feed upon them and take their shiny objects. You really are not sure which is more beneficial. You do know you are a bit peckish, though.
>>
>>24626230
You are making this more complicated than is necessary. As soon as we are powerful to kill them and able communicate with them we will be able to rule them. Until then scaring them will do nothing of consequence other than increasing the chance that some of them will try to kill you when they notice how small you are.
>>
>>24626268
We will observe them. If they seem intelligent enough to be of any use we rule them. Otherwise we eat them.
>>
>>24626280
Eating them might be more tasty, but toying with them of more fun
>>
>>24626356
Too bad we have to eat then. Why would you think that eating them precludes toying with them anyway? There are many goblins I assume and toying with your food is a fun activity for a dragon.
>>
>>24626356
So you're saying we should toy with them before eating them like a true Dragon would?
>>
>>24626418
But do we have the time to do both?

His weapon is holstered, a long bit of metal with points all over, it looks hard to even hold, but worse to have shoved into you. >>
>>24627714

That sounds amazing. So much meaty happiness... can we ditch the goblin and do that right now?
>>
>>24627733
Bad idea. The butcher will notice that his store has been broken into. While he won't suspect "MUST'VE BEEN A DRAGON!", people will certainly be more on guard after a break-in, which will just make our life harder.
>>
>>24627728
1. A single goblin sized dog is easier to hunt. A dozen dogs are easier then a dozen goblins.
2. Goblins are people, they have language, weapons, their own psikers, and are organized. On the other hand, nobody will miss a few stray dogs and even if they do they will not come hunting us in a group for that.
>>24627768
People would be on guard? seriously? Break-ins occur all the time in a big city
>>
>>24627787
Goblins are not really a threat compared to a pack of dogs. Wild dogs are brutal, vicious motherfuckers. They're more like wolves than dogs.

Goblins are:
Weak
Cowardly
Isolated from public view
large enough to make a full meal individually
and nobody cares if a whole pack of them turns up dead.

So we work together. We live as brothers, for there are none like us. All Walkers walk together, or we die alone."

"I am a dragon! I do not need help!"

"And when the nations of the world bring their armies upon you, and your other dragons stand beside them, and the armies of man ride your brother's wings, and the elves cast their arrows on your horde, and the orcs raise their machetes for war, and the dwarves clatter their spears, it is not dragons or kobolds who will stand beside you." he says, "It is the Walkers, the ones you truly can call kin. Tomorrow night, I shall attempt to free the dragons in the kennals of the military barracks. I would like your help." he holds out his hand.

"Will You Walk With Me?"
>>
>>24628183
Yes.
As mighty as we think we are if those things enslave our kind it would be prudent not to underestimate them.
We might think ourselves mightier then them but are we mightier then an army of dragons?
And besides, lesser beings should not enslave dragons... we should free them on principle.

>>
>>24629495
Meant to say two, there.
>>
>>24629495

>Mental soundness
More Mind Power (10 additional).

>Mental greatness
More power use (d15 maximum).

>Mental aptitude
More bonus (+11 from +10)

>New power
A new psionic power (this will open another choice to make.)

>Appraising
Allows you two bonus die on appraising (Base 2d6)

>Voice
Allows you to speak Common.

>Cunning
Allows you two extra dice on Cunning (Actions that require forethought, base 2d6)

>>
>>24629512
>Meant to say two, there.
Where, specifically?
>>
>>24629558
(>Bonus is 10, not 1

BOY DO I LOOK SILLY. Take two options, not one, for my gaffe. )
>>
>>24629558

A new Psionic Power might be good.
>>
>>24629572
Day 2, not day 1
>>
Guys

Guys

Why did we try to distract him with noise when we could have roared in his mind?
>>
>>24629581

Also Greatness up. Whatever that is.
>>
>Cunning
Lets do this.
>>
and for our second lets do another power
>>
>>24629558
NEW PSIONICS POWER AND MENTAL APTITUDE
>>
>>24629558

Voice.
>>
>>24629558
Well not voice, since we can use mind powers to talk on those occasions when we need to. Cunning dice seem handy. So does mental soundness. I really want those thick scales now though, even if it's too little too late.
>>
>>24629611
we have telepathy, we don't need voice.
>>
>>24629558
>Voice
Fuck using up all our mental power just to talk to human weaklings.

>New power
New powers are cool.
>>
>>24629578
So mental aptitude gives +1 bonus?
>>
>>24629611

Oh two options, uh for my second... Cunning.

So voice and cunning.
>>
New power

>>24629595
Because he was blind and that was the only thing we did right during that fight.
Why didn't we run away to grab the sword, or run down the stairs and trip/ambush him, or any number of actions is what I want to know.

We really should stop trying to "rip and tear" opponents.
>>
Get 2x new power.
Voice is pointless we got telepathy for it.

New power we can get telekinesis (attack and utility) and defense (so we don't get stabbed again)
>>
Can we eventually use magic or not since we pick psionics?
>>
>>24629654
>We really should stop trying to "rip and tear" opponents.
You really, really are not built for it, yeah.

There's roughly three kinds of Dragon: Great Wyrm, which uses physical mutations to gain an edge in battle and out, Psionic Drake, which you mainly are, and Magical Lizard, which focuses on arcane.
>>
>>24629678
The starting point for that requires physical growth, sadly.
>>
>>24629628
We have a limit of 20 mind power a day before our brain explodes. We really don't want to be wasting it all telepathing some redhead about pie. If we pick Voice we can bring out the big dice (d10! Blow half our power at once!) for important stuff like fighting people.
>>
>>24629678
>>Mental/Greed growth achieved.
It seems our available upgrades are in categories. We missed that option this time, but may get it later. Which is good because this showed pretty clearly that we need to get thick scales and claws as soon as possible.
>>
>>24629720
If we don't spend growth point to acquire voice, will we get voice naturally as we age? or do we have to pick it and if we don't we are mute for life?
If we do pick it, do we get the XP refunded when we are old enough?
>>
>>24629720
We don't need to talk that much. We can give her a standing order about pie. By contrast, mental soundness gives us ten points we can spend on talking, or on anything else.
>>
>>24629654
Yeah but we don't need to look people in their eyes to mentally connect with them. We could have made a telepathic connection and made a lot of noise in his head which would distract him.
>>
>>24629760
True, we don't seem to be talking more than 10 times a day. I'll change >>24629637 to mental soundness and a power.
>>
>>24629670
is 2x new power an option or do we have to pick 2 different things?
>>
>>24629954
I'm going to ask for two different things.
>>
>>24630025
thanks for clarifying.
Changing my vote to: new power + cunning
>>
>>24630025
Makes sense. Two new powers would be kind of too much to try out in a single thread anyway.
>>
>>24630061
Not necessarily.
Power 1: barrier (take less damage, passive)
Power 2: something offensive (like telekinesis).
>>
Please link all votes to this post. Voting ends in 20 minutes.
>>
>>24630128
New Power
Cunning
>>
>>24630128

New Power
Mental Greatness
>>
>>24630128
New power + Cunning

Also, when making 2 purchases it is better to make purchases 1 at a time.
For example in another quest I have seen a vote for buying 2 starting powers.
2 offensive powers were tied. 4 defensive powers were tied. everyone voted for 1 offensive + 1 defensive power of choice...
The result of the vote was buying both offensive powers and none of the defensive one due to the way the vote was split

>>24630128
Cunning and Mental Soundness

>>24630128
New Power
Mental Soundness

>>24630128
New Power
Mental Soundness
>>
>>24630365
and we are back to being tied.

Current count:
5 new power
3 cunning
3 mental soundness
1 mental greatness
>>
>>24630413
If it stays tied, Drake should just roll off for them.
>>
>>24630445
Better yet. Select new power and then make a tiebreaking vote between cunning and soundness
>>
Rolled 1

>>24630413
1 Cunning
2 Soundness
>>
>>24630536
>>24630413

>Cunning

>New power

>Telekinesis
Allows you to exert your physical strength + Mind Power at a distance.

>Suggestion
Allows you to make a one-word suggestion. Does not convey obedience. Length is dependant on Mental Power.

>Mental Cloud
Allows you to daze, confuse, and haze the mind of individuals. Number of individuals is based on Mental power, as is length.

>Kinetic Reduction/Redirection
Allows you to manipulate kinetic forces currently in action, with a limit of Mind Power.

>Burst
Allows you to raise the temperature in a location by your Mind Power in degrees.

>Link
Allows you to create a long-term link with an individual that can be turned off at will. Only thoughts sent through the link can be heard by the other end.

>Read
Allows you to read surface thoughts.
>>
>>24630506
Takes longer.

>>24630614
Isn't Link mostly just a lamer Voice?

Anyway, I vote Read.
>>
>>24630614
>Link
Seems cool. We can just phone up mentor goblin or red lady whenever we want. Get it early so we can start throwing them around on anyone interesting we meet.
>>
>>24630614
Telekinesis! This will be so useful!
>>
>>24630614
>Link
I can't really think of a good reason that wasn't stated by >>24630659 already.
>>
>>24630614
>Telekinesis
Offensive, long ranged, and utility.
We are currently helpless and nearly got killed by one dude.

>>24630614
Is the op waiting for a tie breaker?

Telekinesis chosen.

See you all next week!

Excerpt from "On Dragons" by Professor Droog:

Draconic growth is most fascinating. It seems different from ours, wildly so. Simply by eating mass, whether it be vegetable or organic, they rapidly grow in size. And some dragons exibit wild mutation with growth, as I've noticed foot-thick scales on mere teens, when they are normally seen on full adults. More interesting is the growth they exibit from other stimuli - Dragons simply EXPAND in power, wherever they have it. Most interesting!
