You’ve spent the last thirty minutes pacing in your room after waking up from your usual nightmare, the stress of yesterday seems to still be working its way into your body and you’ve managed to catch 4 hours of sleep at most. Needless to say that the night was particularly long and remembering the fresh events only worked to fuel your insomnia, along with your instinctive fear of sleep due to that damnable nightmare.

"Can I really become a pilot?"

In the end that was the question that popped the most in your head. You’ve dreamed all your life to go inside a TSF, but now that the option is almost within your reach you feel some reservations. After all, your livelihood and day to day existence was just stolen from you…
Is this the kind of sacrifice one must make to become an Eishi?

A loud knock on your door almost makes you jump. The solicitor, however, doesn’t wait for your acknowledgement for they open it shortly afterward.

Good thing you weren’t doing anything important. There was already a set of clothes made especially for you in the crude wardrobe. Nothing but a black t-shirt and blue jeans.

The one to invade your room is the blond girl from yesterday who, upon looking at you, breaks into a large smile and puts one of her hands on her hip, not minding the fact that she broke the rules of privacy. Then again, maybe you’ve stayed cluttered in here for a while.

"Come with me, it’s about time you get to meet the crew."

Your tried your best to keep your cool but couldn’t find much will to respond to the girl small talk. You forgot her name after yesterday’s commotion but at the very least she revealed it to you after the short walk down the hallway.

Alexandrine Mirabelle, Surface Pilot and former newest recruit that seemed quite glad to lose her title. There was quite a bit of mischief within her.

The room you were led to looked very cozy despite the metallic nature of its furniture.

Relatively small, it was nonetheless filled with stuff you’d see in the city: two couches in front of a wall mounted television, a small bar, a few tables and chairs here and there… This is probably violating military regulation. Still, it looked like the perfect place to unwind.

"Right-O, here’s our little mascot."

The French girl cut straight into your train of thought and finally forces you to look at the numerous people who, of course, had all turned to look at you the moment you entered; she even went as far as putting both of her hands on your shoulders after her statement.

Barring the one clinging to you, there were four other people looking very much different from one another, with one familiar face. You immediately started to read them for first impression, with all of them sharing very similar feelings; empathy and fondness, but you weren’t able to form a clear picture beside the fact that they seemed to like you. At least there wasn’t any pity.

"Well then!"

A vigorous voice followed the rattling of a chair as one of the two men stood up with a broad smile. He’s got short hair and a solid build that clearly stands out with a good amount of developed muscles. He walks toward you with clear steps and puts his hand forward.

"Name’s Alfonso. Alfonso Mariano. I’ve participated in Rain Dancers and would delight in giving you a few tips. I always wanted to have my own little cute rookie!"

Ah…

You’re not good at being the center of attention. Thankfully his statement is more than enough of an excuse to stare awkwardly. Strangely though, he seems to be enjoying himself.

"You weren’t that creepy when you welcomed me last year."

Thankfully, the blond girl jumped in.

"Each time I saw you outside the module you looked like you were about to go berserk. A man has to back off sometime y’know?"

Before she could respond, a new arrival interrupts. One that you remember seeing yesterday. Standing straight with hair almost as long as yours put in one long ponytail. The dignity in her entire presence could only be described as knight-like, and while she abandoned the prim clothes for a black camisole and jeans, she certainly didn’t lose in charisma.

"Your fondness of self-derision tends to give a poor first impression."

To which he replies with a laugh.

"A man has to know when to laugh at himself!"

Walking back to one of the chairs, Alfonso doesn’t look one bit dejected despite your impression. Finally, the two late arrivals make themselves known.

"Name’s Adam Manley. I’m the Field commander, so if you’ve got any problem, you come talk to me alright?"

He’s the tall guy that was pursuing Mister Mariano yesterday.

He’s… Very tall. You’d guess him at a good 190 centimeters and certainly built like a prim and proper military man with a lot of presence. He really gives you the same impression as the aging generals you’ve rarely seen in the various military bases you’ve been to. His dark skin also sticks out quite a bit. This is probably the strongest portrait of a "veteran" you’ve ever seen.

"He’s just a big cozy bear."

Coming from the last person to introduce herself, you gaze at a relatively short girl, who happens to be the closest one to your height. She’s garbed like everyone else and had nothing to envy the others pilots in terms of fitness with the only clear difference being her dusky, brownish skin and, in contrast to Shigeko and Alexandrine, her hair was kept short and boyish with a strange greenish tint. She appeared relatively peaceful and elegant but didn’t give the same impressions as Shigeko. She looked… Peaceful, for lack of a better term.

"Name’s Berenice Salama. It’s a pleasure to meet you and if I may, your hair looks wonderful."

He stop for a moment, gauging your reactions, you feel a mix of stress, joy and fear at what you are just about to do.

As you comb over each and every pilots present, there’s an overall feeling of peace and anticipation, with Shigeko probably looking the most reserved.

The next few minutes were spent relatively peacefully, your awkwardness managed to filter out as each of the Eishi made themselves comfortable and conversed amongst themselves as you observed them silently.

They probably know about your power, this impression extend into certainty as you manage to finally pick up some images from each persons, which represented conflicts and peace at once, as if whatever they were thinking juggled between two subjects that inevitably narrowed into one thought.

Each of them suffered through some kind of incompetence, which they want to make certain will never be imparted on you.

The one that really stuck was the gallant Shigeko Susumu Takara who, unlike the other 4, always looked at you with a reserved expression, but for a single second an image popped in your mind and disappeared like the flash of a gun.

A city in flame in the background and wreckages of Tactical machines littered the ground amidst BETA organs, with many still smoking craters.

You didn’t have time to properly identify anything else and when Alexandrine put her hands on your shoulders, you almost passed out, which prompted a remark from Alfonso.

A bit more back and forth followed, which thankfully gave you enough time to get your bearing.

Mister Alfonso breaks right into the conversation and the girl snap back at him.

For a moment you give a pleading look to Berenice who’s been watching you all along, the short exotic girl simply give you a smile that somehow chill your bones.

Thankfully, said Royal Guard had enough and freed you from the overexcited French girl going on a tirade about ‘’flexible arms’’ and ‘’sweeping guns’’ with a good dose of ‘’French storming engineering allowing for proper…’’

You lost her at this point.

You even go as far as putting your head down and wait for her to talk.

You look up much more surprised than confused, upon seeing her obviously amused smile and the fact that her emotions were still good and peaceful; you come to an obvious conclusion.

With your every joint stiffer and stiffer your shoes clanged every steps of the way toward wherever Victor was guiding you, the hallway of the carrier were spacious but active and you crossed path with many a soldiers and personnel members that stopped to salute they’re commander who, each time, repeated ‘’at ease’’ without so much as stopping for them, your destination seemed to be deeper inside the bowels of the ships and well outside the surface Pilots quarters, although the door leading to it was obvious given the ‘’Simulation Room’’ written nicely on the door.

You’ve read about those things before, but seeing it on person is always something else. 12 big metallic cubes were perfectly aligns to each other inside the long, but not too large, room with an amazing set of hydraulics beneath especially made to replicate TSF movements, there was also an inside room with tainted glass where Victor swapped a card through the required lock and, looking at your intimidated self, nodded at you to step inside.
Needless to say you had no idea what the various consoles were about.

‘’Today I want to test your powers’’

He suddenly says as he close the door.

‘’While basic training is needed, we’ll need to speed your training and I believe this exercise will be perfect, I trust this is fine with you, Ekaterina?’’

Standing inside a small control room next to a tall, intimidating commander give you many conflicting feelings, but how will you answer his question?

Finally, the 5 pilots walk into the room and immediately move to one of the big metallic cubes without so much as exchanging a word, although many glances and gestures were thrown with everyone giving a thumb up as they walked to they’re destination.
They’re fortified suits looked absolutely wonderful, even if the dull gray was a seriously lackluster color the simple way it clung to everyone body gave a sort of presence that was properly only matched by knights of old.

It really is a wonderful piece of equipment.

‘’Adam, we’ll be running course H-03’’

You didn’t notice Victor talking through one of the intercom, the rough face of the Field Commander appeared over one of the many consoles and his voice resonated in the control room without a hint of static.

‘’Hive? Shit, you’re pretty harsh on us today’’

Many comments were also heard from everyone else, Alfonso seemed quite happy to be sitting; Berenice looked like she was meditating while Alexandrine had a large smile akin to a hungry predator, your mentor however, had absolutely no slip up in her guard, she was looking ahead clutching her controls without so much as hint of tension.

One console displayed everyone vitals and beside the various spike of excitements, everyone looked fine.

It’s hard to admit, but you really are a trainee.

The biggest monitor gives you the image of something truly alien; giant walls of some kind of greenish material extend in an endless tunnel at the front of back with probably insane distance beneath the soil and roof, the entirety of the architecture look like some kind of long, endless serpent.

Regardless, you’ve got something to do here and as the units start exchanging call sign and immediately proceed down the northern path, you focus on the camera giving you the image of Shigeko spearheading the position, 5 Ef-2000

Typhoon barreling down the hive structure at insane, practiced speed with her as immediate scout.

It didn’t take long for the enemy to show up, but you resisted the urge to look as guns started blaring and machines entered evasive maneuvers, the sounds seemed truly authentic, especially when the machines cut in the air and landed on the ground…

No, focus, focus!

Depleted uranium smashed onto the aliens and ripped them apart where the stood, despite her close quarter armaments Shigeko didn’t take out her swords when she was pressed into close combat, in fact the entire unit was running, bypassing as many BETA as possible to plunge deeper and deeper into the hive.

You missed many more of the actions, but each and every single one of her move was… made without hesitation, even when her thruster forcefully made her go backward to dodge one of the Forts acid whip, a laser was fire right into the small opening between the two fortress aliens and blew up her right arm as she managed to twist her machine, offering her profile instead of cockpit.
