You are Ssen, a Lamia raised by a human Paladin who adopted you after killing the ones who birthed you. You are grown now, and Father has passed on. After a great deal of work, you have become a Paladin like your Father, and now take up his duties.

You are accompanied by your best friend from childhood, the insect druid Tricia; Mage, a magic user who ran away from his family of cannibal raiders known as the Ghouls (Yes, his name is Mage. It was his idea); Persephone, a 22-year old thief/ex-guerllia fighter (She goes by Peri), and Mari, a 13-year old prodigy scholar/now sniper, who has her mind and soul trapped within Peri's body; and Lea, a deeply religious musician/martial artist, trained by her father, a famous trainer for arena fighters, she's covered from her mouth down in bandages to hide the horrific state her body has become thanks to the 'cures' that saved her from cancer.

Your journey continues...

You've left Bronze Peak, having a full to-do list regarding bringing down the Dramatae, and stopping them from restarting the whole Lightbringer mess.

You stopped at your hometown of River's Crossing. It was a nice quiet reunion with friends and family. Until that evening, at least. Tricia had completed the ritual potion that was used in the Dragon Bonding ceremony. You both downed it, and then things went very wrong.

Next thing you knew was that you were trapped in the Blank Space, with only Peace to keep you company. She told you that the ritual had forcibly begun the transformation that Wasp Witches undergo, years of shifting and changing all in an instant. If it didn't kill Tricia, then her mind would be gone. Peace made the usual devil's bargain, but with prayer and force of will, you were able to help...you think...and bring yourself back.

You awoke to find Tricia. She seemed fine, but the truth was a little complicated. When her body began to shift and warp, she did the only thing she could do, and called out to the swarms. They arrived, and she had them rid her body of the offending flesh, and once that was done, she was able to still command the bugs she had summoned to stay, and serve as her new body.

It was a very long night.
>>
Echo, I just like to state for the record, that if you are female, I want to be with you. And if you're a dude, then (no homo) I want you inside me.

Fuck you, I can't get anything done, ever, when I know there's a Lamia Quest going.
>>
>>24576400
"So," Lea sighs as she looks at the two of you. Mari is examining Tricia, poking and prodding her, writing down a lot of items in a notebook. "Would you like me to smack the both of you now, or wait until later?" She sighs. "What were you two thinking? Doing this alone...stupid!" She whaps you on the back of your head. "I don't want to say that either of you deserve this...but honestly, you do foolish things like this and you make your own bed."
>>
You know, I'm sort of curious how much of tricia is bugs. I am also at the same time feeling like I would experience body horror at finding out.
>>
Up 'til silly o'clock last night, prepared to do it again. Worth it.

From last thread:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24555586/#p24566827
>Tell Tricia what happened
>Find out changes to our own body
>break the news to the party
>speculate who comedy is
(we did some of that last one in the previous thread)

> figure out if we shared "that list" with isen and co. otherwise, send messenger to Barnes to do so.
> figure if theres anyone else we should ask about those names for
> See if echo would be willing to tell us what thought other choices would have wrought, now or after its all over
>>
>>24576495
yea, the all night threads are crazy, but so worth it.

>>24576400
Just to confirm, we don't owe Peace shit right? I fell asleep and only caught the end.
Also I am alright with tricia bugs.
>>
>>24576485
"I know Lea, I know. This one was entirely our fault. It would have been more wise to have someone along in case something went wrong.

Things were looking... bleak for a while there."
>>
>>24576485
>but honestly, you do foolish things like this and you make your own bed."

Resisting urge to make a "make your bed and lie in it" joke here.
>>
>>24576522
no, we ALMOST DID though. Really fucking close.
>>
>>24576522
Right, we got out of it without Peace's "help". Just a pile of psychological torture.
>>
I am also wondering, do all of her bugs stay... together? While she sleeps? Oh our poor bugwitch is now the scariest member of the monster squad. Even Made-Of-Poison Ssen is less likely to end minds than Tricia exploding into bugs.

Can Ssen try drawing something on her arm to see if the bugs always go back the same way? Curiousity is killing me.
>>
>>24576485
"Well we did that too." with a grin at Lea.

>>24576527
couldnt help myself
>>
>>24576549
Since there was no mention of Ssen waking up covered in bugs, I'm assuming so.
>>
I'm a bit concerned about Tricia's noted lack of a epidermal layer on most of her body excluding her neck and face and head. Unless her new (powered-up?) state of Wasp Witch renders her immune to most diseases, that much exposed tissue could become very painful or very infected in a short amount of time. Not to mention that the buggy second skin could be vulnerable to extreme changes in moisture and/or temperature, unless there's some magic mystical stuff going on.

If she can control Arachnids now, she might want to consider weaving a bodysuit of spidersilk.
>>
>>24576596
she can control silkworms. so she can do normal silk.
>>
>>24576596
If her transformation was playing that strictly to realism, I think she would've died around the point her flesh became bugs.
>>
>>24576617
Let's just ask her to not... come apart if she can help it.

It's worrying. Especially if she tries to do it in combat and doesn't have flesh protecting her bones and arteries.
>>
We still have to ask about the dragonfly wings.
>>
>>24576617

I figured that there's some sort of magic symbiosis going on that attunes the bugs to her vitality. So they can inherit most of the duties of the skin without worrying about all the vital functions it carries out. So it might in reality be a crawly layer of skin that she can easily regenerate in temperate areas.
>>
>>24576639
Yes. We have to inform Tricia she's our little dragonfly now. Regardless of what she things.
>>
>>24576657
This has to be done.
I find it surprisingly fitting the 4th ed lamia picture is a redhead.
>>
>>24576657
We do indeed.
>>
>>24576524
"I know Lea, I know. This one was entirely our fault. It would have been more wise to have someone along in case something went wrong.

"That was the second or third thing that occurred to me when I found myself unconscious and visited by Peace. The first few aren't fit for polite company.

"Things were looking...pretty bleak for a while." You say.

"Alright." Mari steps back. "So, you want the full diagnostic, or do you want to wait until Mage comes back from vomiting outside?"

Tricia looks away.

"Look, he was okay until you touched him with your...skin off." Peri says. "Anyone would freak."

"Fair enough." She sighs. "Alright, go ahead."

"Okay. your skeletal, nervous, digestive, respiratory, and arterial systems are still intact. In fact, most of your insides are still you. Now, they've been totally altered in how they work, but they're there and healthy. But fat, muscle, your old skin, and everything that doesn't keep you alive, and your skeleton held together from your collar bone down. Yeah. That's gone. It's been replaced with...yeah." She sighs. "As for your new skin...you know how certain druids can change their body into animals?"

"Yeah, Dad can make himself into a horse."

"Right, same principle...kinda. You're just polymorphing the shells of all your little friends into a single dermis. You're also using the silk from your worms as well." She nods. "It's actually a bit tougher than normal skin really. But don't go testing that out. It's not that much tougher." Mari says. "Also, don't think you can just keep adding bugs to it. This swarm is now yours, and literally a part of you. They've been altered by your magic and...well I guess we should call it Dragon magic too."

Lea shakes her head, still angry at your foolish actions.

(cont)
>>
>>24576832
"What?" Tricia asks. "Am I now too much of a monster or an abomination to be allowed to be seen in HIs Light?" She snaps.

Lea takes a step back, she looks hurt. "Tricia..." She says, she shakes her head. "No."

"Tricia, that's not fair." Peri says. "You know Lea's not like that."

Tricia sighs. "Sorry." She pauses. "Lea, can you come with me to see my father? I...I think I'll need you, and I don't want him mad at Ssen."

"Of course." She says. "But promise me you wont scare him like you did with Mage. I think the poor boy's hair will go white from the shock."

The pair leave.

"Okay, your turn." Mari says. "Stretch out and let me see what happened to YOU."

(Okay, time to pick. Scales, arms, eyes, or tail?)
>>
>>24576832
>"Look, he was okay until you touched him with your...skin off." Peri says. "Anyone would freak."

"I didn't."

> (Okay, time to pick. Scales, arms, eyes, or tail?)

Mmmm. Eyes or tail, I'd think; personally I'd prefer eyes.
>>
>>24576845
those all sound interesting. Surprise me!
>>
>>24576845
oh boy, if we pick arms are we a Maralith?

leaning towards tail or scales.
>>
>>24576845
could we get a run down of what the options do
>>
>>24576865
Actually, I'd like to keep our snake eyes.

Hopefully any change to the eye doesn't change the fact they're all slittish and snake like. Maybe change something else?
>>
eyes, we're a hunter and yet its our worse skill hah.
>>
(of course that is mostly the dice's fault)
>>
>>24576865
Since this is a fairly meta decision to begin with: I'm thinking enhanced eyes are the most likely to help us with actually hitting things, which is what we need the most help with. We already dodge like crazy, so scales doesn't seem that important. I'm really curious about tail though.

Except, if arms had any chance whatsoever of giving wings, even small wings, it'd be so worth it.
>>
I'm really hoping the eyes aren't a multisegmenting thing and more of an iridescent scaling thing, look the same but now we can perceive a wider spectrum of light than even before. Like a horrible cross between snake and mantis shrimp.
>>
>>24576929
actually, I'm just mostly worried about changing the look of our eyes is all.

Snakeyes is a thing of great significance culturally, and I bet, magically.
>>
We're going to have a harder time with this than the dresses.
>>
>>24576970
I was going to suggest that dragon eyes would fit, but then I realized that even though this is dragon magic, we just exchanged blood with Tricia, making it just as possible that we now have some bugly traits instead.

Hedging bets, on that theory: tail, because we don't want bug eyes.
>>
>>24576929
meh, not a fan of wings, especially since they would have to be massive to lift us, we are like 600+ pounds, probably 700+ now that we have gained a bit of length.

as fir eyes, I like our yellow/golden snake eyes.
>>
>>24576970
>>24576897
these were BOTH me, so it's only 1 anti-eye vote. Just, you know, no doublecounting. Sorry bout that.
>>
>>24576845
Voting for Tail.
>>
>>24576845
Gonna go with tail for this one

Also fuck you echo that shit you pulled last night gave me insomnia.
>>
all valid concerns... alright I can go with tail as well.

>>24577026
>>24577024
>>24576993
>>24576897
>>24576891
Sounds like we're converging on tail.
>>
>>24576845

I'm voting scales. And praying to His Light that Lea can keep Tricia's parents from hurting Tricia's feelings,
>>
>>24576991
We are surprisingly vain about this, though in my case, its more of a case of avoiding the horror that is a lot of the mary sue protagonists with all that special rainbow shit. Can't speak for anyone else of course. Wings would be fucking way too much.
I'm all for eyes, since it seems like the most subtle of the changes.

I would still like an explaination of the meta changes since this is a meta decision.
>>
>>24577026
You probably had it better off than me. Not sure I even finished the thread before sleeping, woke up after dreaming about Lamia Assassins though.
>>
>>24577063
>I would still like an explaination of the meta changes since this is a meta decision.
Yeah I do agree with that.
>>
>>24577055
I'm betting they're going to look right past the bug thing and instead be upset that Tricia got married without talking to them.
>>
>>24577080
well we still need to get actually married.

and find Julian or someone else suitable to do the ceremony.
>>
>>24577103
Or Father Uriah. But yes, true. Just because we went through the draconic equivalent doesn't mean we should skip the well-recognized version.
>>
>>24577080
To be fair, the entire wedding was a clusterfuck of twitching on the floor, necrosis, and Magic. They really didn't miss much of a 'ceremony'.
>>
Well, come what may. An eye mutation might actually retain our snakeness.
>>
>>24576929
>>24576903
>>24576865

"Okay, so...your body is...normal...for you." She gently examines your tail. "These little slits are where your barbs will eventually come out, right?" She shakes her head. "We are a never ending freak show. No wonder Lea's happy with her lifespan. What a trade off, huh?" She then does a check of your waist and arms. "Okay...that seems good." She goes up to your face. Then she pauses. "Ssen...okay. Be calm. Blink your eyes."

You do so. Mari exhales, and then takes out a small little stick with a cotton ball on the end. "And now hold still..." She pushes the cotton ball up to your eye and...tap. Tap. It stops and you feel a pressure, but...you don't feel it touch your eye. "Okay, I can see the slit. It opens sideways." She pauses. "One more test." She closes the door, covers the window, and put out the fire. "Seen? What can you see?"

Everything. The residual heat from the fire. Peri/Mari and their heartbeat. The cracks in the wall, and well...you can see the little change what happens when Peri's there, as opposed to Mari, and you can see a...glow along one side of the wall. That's where Mage is trying to regain his stomach. You can see Beacon shining in the corner too.

Mari restores the light. "Okay." She nods. "So, that's that." She looks at you. "How do you feel, Ssen? I mean. Trish' is that 'so calm it's clear she's a hair away from freaking out' but how are you holding up?"
>>
>>24577175
alright, Im happy with the eyes.
>>
>>24577175
Sorry, saw the votes for eyes before it changed to tail. Is this okay, or would you like to scrap this and have me do the tail?
>>
>>24577198
Fine with this.
>>
>>24577198
its fine, personally Im happy with enhanced vision... its what I wanted in the first place before vanity got ahold of everyone heh
>>
>>24577198
The eyes turned out fairly well, but it does seem like the vast majority of people ended up wanting tail, including several people changing their mind and going for tail.
>>
>>24577198
I'm cool with what we've got.
>>
(could we get a brief summery of what would have changed if we picked the other options? Im hella curious.)
>>
>>24577198
fine with this, but now I am endlessly curious what you had planned for arms/tail/scales!

can we stick with eyes but get a rundown of how the others would have turned out?
>>
>>24577198
well I like the eyes for heatvision but what does the tail get is my question. Cause if you tell us then I might switch to the tail but I'm cool with the eyes if not.
>>
>>24577235
In all honesty he should have done that from the start.
>>
>>24577224
>>24577209
I'm trying to not take into account getting a sneak preview of what we would have gotten.
>>
>>24577237
My guess is that Tail would've been the barbs. Just a guess.
>>
>>24577262
I was guessing a stinger. Or actual dragon tail. SInce this IS a dragon ritual.
>>
>>24577175
Eh, sideways snake slit it okay I suppose. Makes us look more... leviathan-y. Less dragon-y. Also we apparently have some sort of eye cover now? That's curious. As for dialogue:

"Well, to be honest I'm so relieved I could faint. Or throw up. I thought Tricia wasn't... wasn't going to make it. That's the wrong kind of stupid."
>>
>>24577269
Dragon ritual, with Wasp Witch blood. Who knows.
>>
>>24577262
I somewhat doubt it, he said we couldnt get those till MUCH later, it has only been a few threads since we got the Black/Clear and Claws.
>>
>>24577198
I was only worried about eyes because I wanted to avoid some kind of crazy heterochromy compound eyes bullshit. This is satasfactory.
>>
>>24577235
(Tail gets you your barbs, scales lets you have a little chamelion action, arms lets you eventually grow a Naga-style bone blade.)
>>
>>24577320
Oh. In that case, yes, I think eyes is pretty clearly the right choice. Mage can already pull off the chameleon thing, we have claws already, and the barbs aren't as awesome as enhanced eyesight.
>>
>>24577277
No no, you have your normal eyelids, but you also have a second pair of clear eyelids that are hard that open sideways.
>>
>>24577320
So question... was this one are only chance at barbs? Or will we have others?
>>
>>24577320
Well then the eyes have it.
>>
>>24577347
oh, so the snake-eye thing is still vertical? But we just have a secondary eyelidset? Fascinating!
>>
>>24577352
I'm assuming it will develop as we get older and the bond deepens.
Which makes me stoked for ancient Ssen going full chameleon.
>>
(was this the only other chance for the barbs?)

I just realized thats everyone in our little party who has extended life awating for them barring death by Citadel except for Lea. Mage is Serpent, Peri\Mari has their pseudo lich. And now Tricia is a Dragon Wasp Queen.
>>
>>24577347
ooh double eyelids for underwater work.

fine with me, just hope we get another chance for the barbs.
>>
>>24577352
>>24577381
Yeah, whether it was or not, this seems better.
>>
>>24577320
>Tail gets you your barbs
Wait, so was that our one chance to get the barbs?
Not that they would be as useful as infravision or chameleon scales.
>>
>>24577352
Honestly, we'll probably get barbs naturally at age like 40-120. We weren't long enough to do it easily, I remember.
>>
>>24577381
>Dodging responsibility but sunning on a rock nearly perfectly blending in with the surroundings.
>>
>>24577386
Don't worry, Lea is holy as fuck and lives healthily.

She'll survive easily 300 years.
>>
>>24577401
>an acolyte trips on the end of your chameleon tail, which was too long to all fit on the rock.
>>
>>24577386
This was a bonus chance for the barbs. You'll get them when you complete Coral Gate's bonus dungeon, or whack one of the Dramatae
>>
>>24577401
An almost invisible snake and a head with attached skeleton, sunning on a rock and watching the circling dragonflies.
>>
>>24577433
I really, really look forward to having acolytes. We can get some immediately upon citadel's collapse, and we should.

We'll need to train additional clarus sects like ourselves post-haste in a post citadel environment.
>>
>>24577433
>A choice of blades or claws later on in feral combat, using the claws as a blade catcher while dueling with the other.
>>24577456
So no chance at eventual chameleon?
>>
>>24577460
"Tricia, please keep yourself together. You're hardly skin and bones."
>>
>>24577460
Par for the course. No worse than the boar sled.
>>
>>24577456
.... bonus dungeon? Im stoked.

don't worry. if we snuck around at night, we'd be so invisible chameleon doesn't matter.

I mean, we can see perfectly in pitch darkness. One well lobbed snowball or glob of jello, the torch goes out... Ssen time.

Mari nods. "Here's hoping."

"I would like to talk to Tricia though." You say.

Mari/Peri nod.

After a bit, Tricia and Lea return. They look...okay.

"So...Mom and Dad are very upset." Tricia says. "They yelled a lot, and Dad's now a horse riding around the farm a few times to calm down."

"They're mad at you two for the same reasons I'm mad at you." Lea says. "Give it time, and they'll be alright. At least they don't have to worry about the change anymore." Lea shakes her head. She looks like she's about to lecture you two again when Peri is at her shoulder. "They need to talk. Let's clean Mage up and go get ready for checking out that lamia issue."

Lea harumphs. "Fine." She points at the both of you. "Don't think you've gotten out of this though." The pair leave.

"I honestly think Lea's happier when she has someone to scold." Tricia says. She looks at you. "So...now what?"

I'm worried people are going to start thinking we're a plaguespreader or something. Mage is the most 'normal' in our group and he's a former ghoul that looks like he was raised in a cave. and he's going to get scaly in a few years.

this is the entire basis of what the hell a "squire" was.

You pick a badass knight and follow him the hell around, hoping some of it rubbed off on you. And you know what? It totally does. Any squire that survives our company for more than 2 months is going to have class levels and a legend.

"Yes." She says.

"Then nothing important has changed. Sure, our friends saw how stupid we were, and we're going to have a whole pile of unexpected complications with your condition, but you're still my dragonfly. We'll continue on as we were."

She looks at you. "You're going to call me that forever, aren't you?" She smiles. "Okay...I'm your Dragonfly, and you're my Snake." She says.

You can't help it. You're crying, your second eyelids have to blink to keep the tears out. You tell her about the Blank Space. About the thing with Peace, and how you could have stopped the whole damn thing from happening to her.

She looks at you and hen slaps you. "Don't. You. Dare." She says. "This is OUR stupid thing, and OUR stupid consequences, and OUR stupid life. We'll live and we'll make do. We DON'T ask for people to just make it all better. that's Citadel crap." She kisses you. "Ssen...you need to get a more solid spine."

"If my spine was more solid I couldn't do this."

You shift in that way that makes Tricia giggle every time.

"But, I do have one, yours. As horrible as it was, you were the strength that helped me through it.

"The thing with Peace was one thing, but what right did I have to choose between those dolls? It was your life, dammit! In the end, I just chose for you to be truly happy, not Citadel happy.

"I'm just thankful you're alive."

Tricia rolls her eyes and bops you on the nose. "You know, you're a real Dragon when you get like this. So dramatic, and over the top and it's all about YOU and ME and how BAD you feel...honestly, it's kind of getting tired." She smiles and then she just holds you for a bit. "Just shut up for a while."

The two of you stay there for a good hour or so. If you didn't know better of what was under Tricia's skin, you couldn't tell. It is smooth now, all the little bumps and welts are gone now. You aren't sure about how you feel about that.

"For our proper wedding, let's wait...I want Dad to calm down, and to have kicked in the teeth of that bitch and fed her her own mask." Tricia says.
>>
>>24578173

"Yeah. And since she cared so much about us not killing Comedy, I do believe that baby-eating brat will be our first stop."
>>

"Well, if we're getting into revenge plans, we'll have to collaborate. I've got plans of my own for peace, none to pleasant."
>>

Well, if we're going to visit the lamia, this is probably the time. Make sure we have the anti-venom Granny provided.
>>
>>24578300
"Heh. Funny about that. I think we should pay Comedy a visit. Peace seemed to want to protect it the most."
>>
>>24578300
It occurs to me to wonder: how might Tragedy feel about Peace choosing Comedy over him?
>>

"Yeah. If we're getting into revenge plans, we'll have to collaborate. I've got plans of my own for peace, none to pleasant. And since she cared so much about us not killing Comedy, I do believe that baby-eating brat will be our first stop."

There's a knock on the door. "Enough with the lovey-dovey stuff. Let's go see if we can get killed again. The usual way!" Peri says.

Tricia wiggles free of your coils. "Come on. I need to get my hat."
>>
>>24578468
Grab her hat and play keep-away while we go into the forest.

I'm feeling playful after all that drama.
>>

>>24578485
This. And grab Granny's anti-venom.
>>
>>24578468
It occurs to me that, unlike most fights, we're actually in the most danger here. The others would get hurt by venom and need some help within a few minutes, but Ssen has all of a few seconds before her heart stops.
>>
>>24578485
"You mean this one?" You say as you snatch the hat with your reflexes.

The other three step out of the way as you come outside of your house, waving Tricia's hat. Your mate swearing and yelling threats involving hordes of ants in uncomfortable, unreachable, places. And a boycott on tail rubs.

Mage smiles. "Okay, so...back to normal...for us. Thank His Light."

Finall, Tricia gets her hat back, and with a punch to your shoulder, everyone heads off into the woods. You know that the ruin of Bright Tower is where they're reported to live, but you know better than to just charge in. Time to track one of your own, in YOUR woods.

Okay...so you're a little rusty. Not your fault. You've been in mountains and caves, and seashores, and cities. It's been ages since you were this deep in a forest.

So...let's just go to the Bright Tower.

The place hasn't changed much since...well...since you were taken away from here. There's an old wall of stones that surrounds a courtyard. You can see where the house, stable, armory, and other places used to be. They were made of wood that has long ago since rotted away into colored patches of dirt. There's just the wall...and the tower. There's no door anymore. There are signs of snake trails that go into and out of the tower. This is their new lair.

Peri puts a hand on your shoulder. "Let me go first. I don't want you getting surprised and chomped."

Peri sneaks inside and you all wait.

"Do you remember anything about your life here?" Lea asks, idly. "I mean, before your Father came?"

"Not much. Sights, smells...lots of smells. I think I was trying to play hide and seek or something when Liam found me. Other than that..." You say. "And thunder...I'd always hide, when there was thunder. They always found me. Well...save once."

Peri comes back out. "It's safe, but you'll want to see this."

You come up. The place is a blood bath. And the smell is awful. Tricia has to focus to force the flies to go away for the moment.

The nest is wrecked, there's blood everywhere. Three men are on the ground, one a semi-gelatinous lump of skin and flesh. The other has it's throat clawed out. The last has a claw inside his chest. The last one is a Passion and the other two are Blanks. The claw that is inside the Passion's chest is attached to a lamia with long gold hair. There's two blades sticking out of her chest. Her eyes are open and glazed over.

The other lamia. Her hair a beautiful shade of silver is slumped in the corner. There's a couple of nasty looking gashes in her side, and there's burn marks on her body and on the wall she's slumped against. her eyes are closed and not a single part of her body is moving.

"This just never ends. Does it?" Lea says. She clasps her hands. "May these two souls be given His mercy, and may my prayer be used to help light their way on their Journey so they may find their way to His Light and true peace."

"Amen." Mage says.

>>
>>24579089

It may be unlikely, but it might be worth checking out if that Lamia against the wall is still alive (if in a bad way). Just be careful about the cornered animal instinct.
>>
Amen

Why would the Dramatae send Passions after Lamia... it doesn't make much sense.

Unless Peace is capturing lamia hatchlings to pervert and grow. Sniff\look around for signs of a young one.
>>

No, one of the others should; they're actually less vulnerable than us.

Harpies: 100 gp
Mer: 50 gp
Naga: 25 gp for Pets, 200 wild
Lamias: 500 gp

The list keeps going with all different kinds of monsters and associated prices. There's a few notes at the bottom.

Double fee for eggs, babies, & breed-able females.

The Caligo Clarus are not to be approached, unless you have direct orders, or a clear overwhelming force. They will kill you, or you will be captured and receive the standard punishment.

No other unsanctioned actions apart from gathering are allowed. Punishment will be severe. Do not defy us. Do not betray us.

"No." Mage says. "This isn't our fault. We're causative of this scenario, but we didn't give this order, and we didn't cause this scene. What we ARE going to do is find these fuckers and melt each and every last one of their skulls."

"Mage, please," Lea says. "we're better than that. We can be much more creative." She sighs. "Mage, can you dig two graves?"

"One." Tricia says. "They went down together."

Lea nods. "You're right."

"Yeah, give me a bit." He says.

Lea sneers at the other three corpses. "As for those creatures. I say we just haul them out and leave them for the carrion."

"No." Tricia says. "Lea, Peri/Mari...you may want to leave." She says.

The pair leave to help Mage with the grave.

Tricia looks at you. "You...you don't have to watch this, you can try and get them out of here." She gestures to the two lamia.

Good thought. Also, I notice lizardfolk aren't on that list.

"Alright." Tricia crouches down and takes off the masks and puts her hands on the blanks' face. It's a buzzing hissing popping sound as Tricia's arms revert to the swarming mass, and then they flow over the two bodies. To the point where you can see her bony hands. The bodies shudder and jerk under their robes and armor. You can't even see their faces, as there's bugs all over it. Then the swarms exit from the Blanks and go over to the Passion. They pour into the holes in the mask. The body does the same shuddering as the bugs do their thing. Then they all return to Tricia's outstretched hands and up into her robes. Then her arms return to normal. There are now three skeletons on the ground. Tricia smiles. "You know how you told me about that rush you got when you cracked someone to death with your coils?" She smiles at you and nods.

Taking out Comedy seems likely to trigger even more massive retaliation than we've already seen, and Leviathan is making me nervous.
>>
>>24579829
leviathan first. It's the safest for our suckling baby civilization.
>>
>>24579743
Trish, there's one very important part about that sensation I want you to never forget and it is how utterly subhuman a feeling it is. Allow yourself the satisfaction and the animal comfort that comes naturally from knowing the annihilation of your mortal foe, and hold the leash tight. Savoring it is what makes one a monster, and it's all too easy a mistake to make.
>>
>>24579743
"Tricia, if you're going to be doing that from now on, I might stop feeling so guilty about helping myself to thirds and fourths at dinnertime."
>>
>>24579743

Well, if this adventuring thing doesn't work out, at least we'll have a good chance of being successful taxidermists. Within limits, of course.
>>
I keep hoping we find like, an egg, or hear "don't wanna be alone" or something.

But of course we won't.
>>
>>24579853
We are *not* describing what Tricia did as "subhuman". We need more tact.
>>
>>24579892
We haven't looked for one, yet. We do need to make one more pass over the tower before we leave, smelling and using our new eyes.
>>
>>24579783
"Yeah. Easy to get hooked on. Seductive." You say. You shake your head and clear your throat.

"I'm curious; does that make you...less hungry?"

Tricia blushes and nods. "Sick. I know."

"That something you have to do from now on?" You ask.

"Well, seeing as I had a normal breakfast, I don't think so."

"Then you might want to avoid doing that often." You say.

Tricia nods. "Right. Right...that was...a little much. Sorry."

You wave it off. "Let's take the gold one. She didn't get to close her eyes, when the time came. Only fair she's buried first."

Tricia nods. You pull out the blades, close her eyes, and carry her down to the courtyard as gently as you can. She's just over 10 feet long. They were just entering the prime of their lives...

The others take Gold from you, and Lea and Mage start to clean up the body.

Mari comes up to you. "Mind if Peri and I poke around the tower some more?" She asks.
>>
>>24579915

>>24579893
Not the action, but the feeling. Point well made though. Animalistic is a better word for it mayhap? All i know is that I -really- don't want Tricia to let any of the changes to her body get to her head.

But these are concerns for another day; don't want to become -too- much like Dad with all this dread and duty and grim vigilance, etc.

"No, it builds up over time. And either you react like Mari, or you get used to it. I think Mari's is the saner reaction." You say.

"Thank His Light for that." Peri says. "I'll help you with the other one, since Mari's taking a rest."

The three of you go back up to the room. Peri looks at the skeletons, looks at Tricia, raises and eyebrow, and then shakes her head.

"I...I don't think I'm going to do that again." Tricia says. "Ever." She looks a little green. "Ugh."

The three of you pick up Silver and carry her down.

Silver is dead, and that's that.

Lea and Mage clean her up. Then you carefully wrap the pair together, so at least they have that. Then Tricia, Lea, and You lower them into the grave. A motion from Mage and the dirt slides back over them. Peri arranges two little stone piles.

"Amen." The others all say.

You all go to exploring the tower. There's really not much. The nest room was where most of the stuff was. There's some rusted old pieces of metal that might have been or belonged to something, and there's a few marks and shreds of long rotted wood.

"Hey." Lea says. "Look." She points at a rock in the wall. "The Nine-Pointed Star."

"There's magic there." Mage says.

You can't see the glow, but then again Mage has better senses for it.

Lea touches the block. Nothing, She pushes it. It gives a little, but then stops. "Peri, a stick or a blade?"

Peri had Lea one of her blades and Lea slowly, carefully pries the brick out. It falls to the ground. NOW you see the glow of something inside the hole.

She reaches inside and pulls out a waxed scroll. Something designed to last for a long time. More in a dry hole like that one.

The seal has the Nine-Pointed Star on it.

"Be careful." Mage says. "Maybe I shoul-AH!" He flinches away as Lea pops open the seal. Nothing happens. "Don't DO that. I'm NOT mopping up your face when it melts from doing stuff like that!"

Lea waves him off, and then looks at the scroll. "Ssen, this is yours, I think." She hands you the scroll. "It's written by your father."

... the last part of this letter was left AFTER we got together with Tricia.

I don't know what the fuck. s
>>
>>24581224
wait, how does he know about us and Tricia, unless we showed interest in her before he died...

he is either dead and has some influence somehow, or didn't actually die of old age?
>>
>>24581252
He did this while alive, though that last part of the message matching his messages from the Light is eerie.

>>24581224
Hug Tricia over all the great news, especially the blessing. "You know what? We're going to win this."
>>
>>24581315
Genre-savviness is a requirement for fighting Citadel and the Dramatae. He just saw it before Ssen and Tricia did.
>>
>>24581311
It would be so fucking awesome. Just utterly fucking Peace's plan right in the ass. Giving her as many middle fingers as we can.
>>
>>24581311
>freeing
I suppose we would do that, but we would most likely feed and educate them as best as we could, rather than just letting them back out into the wild.
>>
>>24581310
...wait, you're right. That *is* eerie. But the "not the hard part" bit does make it unlikely to be a fake.
>>
>>24581315
We were best friends and both social oddballs. Dad didn't know we'd be lovers or anything, but -everyone- could tell we'd be in each other's lives in some way.
>>
>>24581292
It'd really cheapen the original writefaggery this is inspired by in a way.
>>24581310
Yeah I'm suspicious as fuck.
>>24581311
I have no lamiashock.jpg for this.
>>
>>24581292
You know, I still don't know that we should put another spirit in Citadel's place, but if we had to, Liam might be a good choice.
>>
>>24581351
Isnt that the point? Afteral if we manage to get Humans and "Monsters" working together wont that fuck with Citadel as hard as killing Tragedy or Comedy would?
>>
>>24581332
too much stuff from after he died to be coincidence.

Us with Tricia being lovers, the Grand Seal, the fact that they need to be mirrors, and the last bit about the hard part from our dreams.

>>24581358
it is written as him giving blessing for being lovers though.
>>
>>24581376
yes. that is the point. We educate and get them together.

We don't just "free" them after we save them, that would just mean they'd be recaptured or killed. We at LEAST teach them language before we let them go.
>>
>>24581224
SO even here Peace is trying to fuck with us. That fucking bitch NEEDS to die, and die horribly.
>>
>>24581310
>>24581352
Could be that Dad did some research in the years after his cadre's defeat.

Then again, >>24581384
Yeah I agree, this is bogus.
>>
>>24581408
>Could be that Dad did some research in the years after his cadre's defeat.

He did call us "dragon", after all.

Still:

"OK, this is heartwarming and all, but does anyone else find it unusual how much knowledge this ties in from our journey? Either Father learned far more about Citadel than we knew, or this is some kind of trap. I'm not ruling out either possibility, but how can we know this is genuine? Especially since we know the Dramatae know of this place."
>>
>>24581224
This has trap written ALL over it in twelve shade of fucked up. Id say burn it.
>>
>>24581408
>>24581436

I am more inclined to think that the Light is letting him communicate with us even after death, or he is somehow still alive.

especially since it says what father always says in our dreams.
>>
>>24581442
Let's not go that far. But we should definitely give it a closer look.

The one thing that seems really hard to fake is the "you still haven't reached the hard part, yet". I wouldn't put it past the Dramatae to read our minds, but that's a bit much.
>>
>>24581453
We JUST had a run in with Peace. A REALLY close run in. I cant trust anything like this right now.
And if this is true why did he not just GIVE this to us before he died.
This is a trap, and a VERY insidious one.
>>
>>24581462
If they can read our minds to that degree, we're already in serious shit.
>>
>>24581468
Probably these notes will not be for only aimed at me either. We might find something similiar if we ever search Mari's grandmother's place.

We know Citadel and the Dramatae love altering information. Its partly why they were after those books.
>>
>>24581484
If they could read Ssen's mind deep enough to pull the "this is not the hard part" and modify it this fast then we are pretty much done any way you look at it.
>>
oh, oops, it got deleted
>>
>>24581484
Fuck it. We don't need to seal citadel.

We just need to kill the dramatae, prevent the sacrifice, and the citadel will wither on the vine. It will become a shadow of itself.
>>
>>24581492
Peace ALREADY has proven capable of doing some crazy ass shit. I would NOT put it past it to do something like mind read us. She pretty much got a throughout inspection of the state of our mind body and soul in the last thread.
>>
Guys. It COULD be they were reading our mind and made a plant-trap.

Or.

It could be we were having a leviathan vision with the "this isn't the hard part".
>>
>>24581547
Like a certain dickass mountain? I can dig it.
>>
>>24581484
As much as I'd like to go in with your lovely inspirational paranoia. (Told you writing that letter was a bitch, bad pick on my part) I intended the information within it to be legitimate. But I see I fucked it up, royal. I'm tempted to just scrap the letter actually and give you guys something else. Would you mind that big of a retcon, or just charge forward with what we have?
>>
>>24581569
After what happened to us last thread in heavily leaning toward the "Peace did this and is fucking with us hardcore" option.
>>
>>24581574
I thought the letter was actually quite good. If you want to retcon it into being more obviously genuine, go for it, but I don't think you should retcon it into something else.
>>
>>24581574
I don't think actual tangible interaction from father would be in good taste. Too fucking Citadel.
>>
>>24581574
Oh well......after the way the last thread and most of this one went, my mind is literally on "OH EVERYTHIGN IS TRYING TO KILL ME" mode.
>>
>>24581603
...true. Perhaps we could just find the first part of the letter, and maybe even the bit about Tricia (I don't doubt he could see that coming), but the Grand Seal will have to come some other way.
>>
>>24581603
the light's influence has been growing stronger and stronger throughout these threads. Just the other day we literally tore gashes and wounds into a woman with them, and now it makes direct physical alterations to the way of the world in letters. We are doing some form of ritual or sacrifice that empowers the light and we don't even know it.
>>
>>24581574
I'm forgiving to allow for the occasional retcon once in a blue moon, since you are doing near daily threads. Being a GM is hard and mistakes happen. If you truely feel that it needs to be changed go ahead
>>
>>24581574
Figured as much.

Honestly I was pulling for a little lamia for the emotional gutpunch, but that was just me.
>>
>>24581574
Like for instance im waiting on the reveal that Citadel itself is making us the lightbringers in its story and is going to try to feed on us at some point by sacrificing Most if not all of the dramatae. in order to do it and then take over absolutely everything in the world.

Them demons are goddamn everywhere.
>>
>>24581574
I say scrap the parts that mention mirrors, grand seal etc, except for the part about Tricia, he may have figured that out before he died

for everyone else, calm the hell down with the paranoia, this happens in every damn quest where anon becomes increasingly paranoid, we did this once or twice before already.
>>
I vote retcon, first half of letter was alright though
>>
>>24581574
Suggestion, if you want to mostly maintain continuity: we touch the nine-pointed star, and get a vision of Father rather than a letter from him.
>>
If you really want to give us something, perhaps a little bonus for Lea? Shes kinda been getting left behind. Except when does our job better then we do. (goddamn tracking rolls.)
>>
>>24581659
Even better, if we're having visions in here, our FATHER had a vision, and put this pattern on a map. He doesn't know what it's for, other than Ssen will need it. The light plays the long game.
>>
>>24581651
Cant man. If your not paranoid enough you WILL die in any game. Afterall insanity is only your friend in these cases.
>>
>>24581659
No long words with him, because that'd be inconsistent with what we've had so far. But that would let us get a vision of the Grand Seal or similar, and some general happiness over Ssen and Tricia.

>>24581675
Or this, that works nicely.

In any case, you've got a pile of suggestions, but it's your show. Take it away, Echo.
>>
>>24581651
>for everyone else, calm the hell down with the paranoia
Agreed. That shit gets old fast in these quest. Every goddamn one of them.
>>
>>24581695
A reasonable amount of paranoia is fairly justified, though, given the stunts the Dramatae have pulled.

>>24581574
As much as I would like pic related, a better method of fucking up the passions, or maybe an idea where other lamias we could interact with would be nice.
>>24581651
Paranoia is justified when our bonuses do not scale with our abilities. I hate to sound like a fucking complainer, which I do a lot I know, arrow incident for example. but at this point we seem to be entirely at the mercy of the dice, with situational bonuses only being applied rather than our, hopefully growing competence being taken into account. I mean hell, a lot of these search rolls have seemed like it was a level 1 peasant doing this. Its really not a case of numbers but more probability. With us strung out over that, we take the actions we CAN have an effect on seriously, and then get paranoid. At least that is my theory.
>>
Also you guys now how fucking bad spoilers look in suptg right? Annoying as hell to read through.

>>
>>24581740
True enough. Just saying it's a fine line.

>>24581716
This much I'd agree with, yeah. We do well enough in battle, but things like searching and spot checks do need some hefty bonuses at this point given all the abilities and practice we're bringing to bear.
>>
>>24581695
>>24581651
Ther dice have been desperatly trying to kill us over the past three sessions, we just had a WAYYYYYYYY too close for comfort run in with the fucking BBEG, and now we find our moves being premepted.
Yeah nothings wrong with this goddamn picture at ALL, nope.
>>
>>24581749
>reasonable amount, we blew past that when Echo had to retcon the letter(which he intends to be an actual message from our father) because of rampant paranoia.

Granted, though in fairness the letter did say more than Father knew while he was alive, so that means something strange was going on; we just didn't know if it was good strange or bad strange.
>>
>>24581763
>The dice

Right there is the issue in all of this. 90% of the shit we've had to deal with would be a non-factor right now.
>>
I agree, our search rolls seem more suited to a novice at looking for clues rather then the experianced hunter Ssen is. She has so much going for her (heat vision, scent, magic vision, experiance, etc) and yet every single time practically we've failed.
>>
Your paranoia only feeds Echo. It's a very intoxicating feeling.
>>
>>24581785

>>
>>24581796
It'd be her skin doing the throwing up, though. So, no.
>>
>>24581781
Well if we remove the dice the quest goes for interactive to a fucking /a/ style quest of PUSH BUTTAN X FOR JAWSOME!!!!!!!!
I would not want to see that.
>>
>>24581782
I really do get the feeling we lost a chance to notice a surviving lamia, which was the point of the last three hours or so, because we couldn't roll higher than a five.
>>
>>24581823
Pretty much in agreement there.
>>
>>24581796
Implying the flesh of the slavers wasnt poisoned to kill Tricia now that she is the bugs, because Peace WATCHED that happen.
>>
>>24581823
Eh, we were looking here for a clue. The one that would have been alive if we rolled well was silver.

We'll just have to free some lamia slaves if we EVER want a friend of our own species.
>>
>>24581819
That's not necessarialy a bad thing. It's just a different style that revolves more around the character interactions than the combat itself, which is secondary to the character development.

God that sounds dorky.
>>
You open it carefully, and allow Tricia to look over it.

I do not know why I returned here. Maybe I thought there would be another sign. Something that would show me that I was on the right path. That I wasn't mad for convincing Alex to come and raise his family here as well. That I'm supposed to be here instead of out there, fighting.

I come back and I only find the skeletons. I just finished burying them, and now I wait for dawn to go back home to Ssen. I don't know why I cared or did it. Hardly a fitting apology to someone for killing them and taking their most valuable possession.

So I sit here, and I wonder, and wait for a sign. I know that this is a sure way to receive no answer, but I am not someone who can just remain here, and do nothing, and accept it as all that I can do. There must be more.

I'm too old though. The armor is heavy and my sword arm is slow. Also, Beacon will not light for me any more. I don't blame it.

I have made a study of my fall, though, and I have learned my biggest mistake. There was another option. Past Tallows' insistence that the 'Fifth' take over, no idea how, and past the idea of letting Citadel starve to death or to rip The Heart out and collapse the entire thing. There is a way to prevent the deaths.

Free Citadel.
>>
>>24581819
Nah its just the dice modifiers are disproportionate to our abilities. We think we're winning when we are losing.
>>24581823
Case in point, this. With heat sense we should have at least noticed a third.
>>
>>24581839
To be exact. ALL of Citadel has to be set free. That is how we could have won.

Of course, it matters little now. I sit here, and there is no answer. I hear Ssen out there, having difficulties hunting actually...maybe that is my answer.

Should anyone find this, and it makes no sense, burn this letter, or use it for some other use or toilet paper. But...if an Occuli or, by the Light I pray, the Caligo Clarus find this. Then when you reach the Heart of Citadel, and you can break all those barriers and spells that surround it, and if you can beat the Dramatae...free Citadel from itself.

Now, I go to my daughter...she is my everything now. Is she His Light's reward to me for my efforts? Either way, she is a miracle. A dragon as well. But never tell her that, His Light knows I don't need a daughter with an ego of a Dragon to match.

May His Light Be With You.

- Liam Patrick.

I actually do I just forgot to take my trip off that time.

Much harder to keep up with Lamia Quest though, since I always seem to be running at the same time as Echo.
>>
We could make it a message to the CC in general. Since pointing out Ssen specifically raised paranoia caps despite the cool factor, it'd make far more sense for Dad to assume someone would pick up the torch after he's set it down.

Although a footnote would bring a bit of the previous cool factor back in.
>>
>>24581841
Hell , with heat sense we should be able to tell if silver was alive or not by just looking at her.

>Ssen
>having difficulties hunting
Fucking dice
>>
>>24581858
Basically.
And it seems arbitrarily cruel to decide on whether she is alive or not with roll that makes it seem like it is our fault rather than chance. It should be another base d100 or something for chance based things like that. At least to give us an indication. I would like to hear what echo has to say regarding the modifiers though, I feel it is a legitimate issue.
>>
>>24581839

>>
>>24581896
The dice do seem OK 90% of the time. It's just the points where it's something we ought to have little trouble with where it ought to be much easier (though not guaranteed) to succeed.
>>
>>24581896
It always has been an issue one that's never been address or brushed aside for many threads.
>>
>>24581896
The modifiers bit is a legitimate issue. We're sort of entirely dice dependant right now, everywhere but battle. Battle is the only place we get non-situational, constant modifiers, and it's the only place we do consistantly.
>>
>>24581913
>>24581920

Thats just the important shit the dice have fucked up for us in the most recent threads.

"Thanks dad. Light be with you too."

"I wonder what freeing citadel means though. Seperating the spirit from the people?"
>>
>>24581956
If you're going to count those, look back at all the crits that have gone in our favor; don't just look at the failures. I've got no complaints about the dice; they keep things interesting. I do agree with the thoughts about modifiers, but I think we've more than made that point. Right now Ssen has a letter in her hands and is staring off into space intently.
>>
>>24581956
Relax. It's all things we've dealt with and overcome. It's not like every trip ever is going to be justasplanned.png.
>>
>>24581956
Okay, enough of that. We get it. Point made. Quest is picking up steam again, and I'd like to make good use of our few remaining hours.
>>
my only problem with the mods on mundane things like perception are a little low, on a D20 they should be in +4 range for stuff we are competent at.

ie search/perception, we have super smell, and now super eyesight, that should at least be a +4 or so perception check, or mabie 2d20 with+2 on each, one for each sense.

>>24581956
thats just crap luck that we rolled 17-20s on we need low rolls, had it been reversed and we wanted high we would have had a crit success for the transformation.
>>
(this is the biggest reason why most quests don't use first rolls. The dice aren't really random, they are time based. Which is why you have roll after roll do similiar things. Echo just seems to pick the best times in which that RNG screws us over)
>>
>>24581898
"His Light above, this is everything we could have hoped for. Thank you, Father; we will." You say.

"Yeah." Tricia nods and squeezes your shoulder. "Umm, one question. What did he mean by 'freeing' it, and how are we supposed to DO that?"

Lea shrugs. "But it's something...hopefully." She looks around. "It's starting to get dark. We should go back home."

The others nod. Tricia holds up a hand as she goes green. "Ugh...okay, yeah. Not doing that again...hang on." She goes around a corner, you hear...well...it's certainly a sound. Of WHAT you aren't sure. But Tricia comes back, looking very surprised, and her cheeks are bright red. "Never doing that again. EVER." She shudders.

"Why are your sleeves dripping?" Mage asks.

"Don't ask, and never bring this moment up again. Ever." She shudders. "Let's just go home now, okay?"

You all make your way back home. Tricia's dad is back from his long run. He's still upset, and Tricia waves you away as she goes to get chewed out.

Lea whispers something to Mage and Mari/peri and the two walk away.

"Ssen? Could we talk in your house?" She asks.

You go into your house, and Lea pours two cups of tea. She looks at hers for a while. "Ssen...remember how I said a while back how we were all a little bit in love with you?" She sighs. "I'm not so sure about that for myself anymore. At least for me." She looks up at you. "I don't know if I should stay with you all anymore."

Its just being a LOT more subtle than the Dragon who was of Shadows was back on the mountain.

>I don't know what to do, how to get back to fighting the battle "for people", instead of "against Citadel";

This is really good.

"I suppose. So many things have happened recently I'm not sure what I am any more. People, monster, lamia, dragon, paladin, leviathan. I suppose I'm just moving to not have to think about it. That I'm doing the right thing, that what I have done has been the right thing. Not only for the world but for the people around me. I don't want to have to pave my path with the bones of friends. I think somewhere along the way I've lost my path and it took my foe to let me truly see it. I think I really need to talk to another paladin. If only Uncle were here." *straightens herself in her chair*
"But enough about my problems. This is your decision and I'll leave it to you. You joined me willingly and I never expected you to stay with me as long as you have. So thank you. For at least sharing yourself with me for the short time that you did."
>>

this, then fill her in on what happened with Peace in the blank space?

"A little. The mantle's been quite heavy, of late. I'm regretting many more of my choices.

I'm glad we can talk like this, Lea. Even if you're going to be leaving, I'm glad. I feel live I've been losing it lately, and I hadn't wanted to burden you all with it. I guess I've done the opposite?"
>>
bleh I wanna write something, but its not coming out right.

>>24582192
welcome to the club. My post here took four revisions.
>>
>>24582172
Yeah, we need to talk to her about that. That's why I'm suggesting we ask for confession. We need to explain why we're feeling this way, how Citadel is becoming too much of a driving force for us, and to some extent how we rely on being a Paladin as a tool as much as a calling.
>>
>>24582124
"If you feel you should go, go. But I don't want to lose our friendship, and if you feel you need to say something about my actions, say it."

Keep in mind, I sound a BIT self-centered in this, needs some editing.

"I can sympathize. I wish it was simply as easy as righting all wrongs before me by tongue or by steel, but good intentions and a plan alone will not bring this land out of darkness. My father's struggle against Citadel is an example of that. I would wish for a clean and clear way of doing it, but it has not presented itself. I do not find myself taking joy in the thought of bringing the heads to the Old One. I have many ideas on how to make things better, to uphold the teachings of his Light, to make everyone have a fair shot on their own rather than the storybook role citadel puts them in, but I have no way of knowing what will happen. I feel caught in the surge of a breaking dam, and any port in a storm is not an option. So, while we have a brief moment of tranquility between surge and backwash, would you take my confession?"
>>
>>24582247
I don't think we want to just give up here. We shouldn't go full-on speech-to-convince mode, but I feel like we should actually have the conversation before we take her leaving as a foregone conclusion.

"A little. It's like something I'm familiar with already: a monster trying to act like a human, a lamia trying to act like a paladin. You feel like something has changed, liek I'm not the Paladin you expect me to be, and it disturbs you. And that's okay. Old One DID kind of start calling me "Little Dragon", and not without reason."

"But you know something, Lea? When Granny gave me that weird stuff that turned me feral for a bit, and I eventually came back to my sanity, she called me "Little Snake". I have to admit, I feel really proud of that. Because for a lamia, "little" is a good thing. When we give in to our base instincts, we grow longer... that's why you noticed my tail grew, not just because I'm a growing girl. And you know what I realized? I don't WANT to be the "Little Dragon", because that's not who I am. It's not who I should be."

"So thank you, Lea. Thank you for telling me how you felt. And while I can't promise to be perfect, I know that so long as you're part of our family I'll be better for it. We all will. And that's why I'd like for you to stay, and give it some time."

"The mantle's been quite heavy of late. I'm regretting many more of my choices. I don't know what to do, how to get back to fighting the battle 'for people', instead of 'against Citadel.'

"At the moment, Peace is driving me near mad, and I do feel like I have to fight harder to resist seeking revenge rather than justice. I just can't stand seeing my friends hurt. I don't want to have to pave my path with the bones of friends. I think somewhere along the way I've lost my path and it took my foe to let me truly see it.

"There are days where this gem," you hold up your medallion, "Should probably by rights be red, not clear.

My father's struggle against Citadel is an example of that. I would wish for a clean and clear way of doing it, but it has not presented itself. Would you take my confession?"

Lea just gets up from her seat. "It was the dead lamia that confirmed it for me." She says as she gets a candle and arranges it on the table, and starts closing the doors and windows. "You kept on acting like...like they belonged to you. As if it was your RIGHT that they not be dead, and that the hunters and the people they work for suffer for taking something that was YOURS...and you just seemed to give lip service to the loss of two lives. You wanted your vengeance more than their peace...and...and I know you better than that. I know you ARE better than that...you just need some help. As we all do." She lights the candle and gently takes off your circlet, mantle, and medallion.
>>
>>24582314
"Just as you were a Paladin for Peri, you have to not be one for me." She says as she sets your vestments aside.

She sits down across from you. "Ssen Patrick. We are here, alone, save for His Light. Take as long as you need, and say as much as you want. I am ready to hear your confession."

"I'm afraid. It feels like the more I care about someone, the more blind I become in matters relating to them. I start making stupid, selfish or destructive mistakes when I -know- better but I'm just so afraid of losing them. I can't be objective. In my heart, I don't think I can truly be fair when it comes to a choice between many strangers or one friend. It scares the hell out of me, because making precisely that choice on a regular basis is my job. I get so mixed up I often miss the most important thing because I don't want to miss anything."

"Things used to be so much simpler. It wasn't long ago that Tricia and I left town to go gather alchemical ingredients... and THAT was what we considered an adventure. And then we started to see the way things were out in the world, and it was ugly. So much hate and needless death... and here, in the middle of it all, a lamia trying to act like a hero. A hero! Most people took some convincing to think of me as a PERSON. And yet, I kept going. I found people along the way. For the first time since my Father died, I had a family."

"And then we started piecing together the whole thing with Citadel. I thought things were ugly before, but the enemy we face? It's an ugliness that doesn't go away. You face it, and it tattoos your mind with its ugliness. It's everywhere, in everything. It's tried to take the only things that mattered to me: you, Tricia, Mage, Mari and Peri. It damn near succeeded too, on several occasions: most notably last night."
>>
>>24582318

"Maybe you're right. After what happened with Tricia..."

I feel like I'm being pulled in every direction at once. I guess I've gotten so used to people wanting me to solve their problems that I just take it on myself to solve it FOR them, before being asked. You know, I was secretly happy when the Old One called me a Little Dragon. I suppose that is a part of what I am, but only a PART. I think I know why Uncle and so many other joined the Red. To always go into dark places, that's my duty. It's what I signed up for. I need to be careful that that same darkness doesn't devour me.

*looking at Beacon* Light above, it would be so easy, wouldn't it? I could just... I see how foul and how twisted the Darkness is, and I know that I could just a sword and make the world so much BETTER...

Except it wouldn't, would it? Not really. I'm just replacing one vision for a perfect world with my own. I can't end every pain. I can't fix every broken soul. I can't heal every wound, undo every crime. And I can't FORCE the world around me to do it, even if I could.

When I saw the Lamias, I wondered how my life would have turned out if Father had never come along. What would I have been? Like then? I was never aware of my claws or poisons until Granny showed them to me. Does the potential to act like a feral monster, just a little bit, still exist? Like an instinct I'm not even aware of?
>>
>>24582441
Not likely.
>>
>>24582443
"I almost made a deal with Peace herself. The one responsible for slaughtering innocents for... well, centuries at least. And I almost made a deal with her because I was so terrified of losing Tricia. It was... I don't know if it was luck or His guidance, but as it happened things turned out okay. No deals were made. But I came SO close."

"And today, I saw two of my own kind, lamias, who had done NOTHING WRONG, butchered. And I was too late. Too late to save them, to find out if they were like me or not. And now I'll never know. But what I do know is that THEY were responsible for it, and that they're doing something horrible to people like me RIGHT NOW. And I can't stop it."

"And I guess inside, it's hard not to hate it. It's hard not to hate them. That clear gem is the heaviest burden I've ever carried... and now it's heavy with doubt as well."
>>
>>24582318
"Where to begin? Well, you know a few of them. The little ones. The wolf, that I hurt tricia as a kid. That it's satisfying to crush someone. I've lived with these things, though, and I think that's not why we're here.

Peace... Peace has been getting to me. The offers, the manipulations, the bounty on monsters like me, why, she even tried to hold Tricia as a hostage. I've never wanted someone to have a more horrid death than with peace. It wasn't like that before. It wasn't personal before. It was supposed to just be about how she was mismanaging the nation. I'm probably going to do something crazy when I finally get my claws on her.

And... so many have died. So many are going to die. People. ALL the ghouls. Ophelia. Lizardmen. All those slain in the two stone hall riots. These two. so many of your people starving and mine slain. So many we don't even know about! I didn't do these things, not directly, no. It's still my fault. I knew there would be serious consequences to even trying to rattle the cage, I was stupid to not expect this. I didn't even have the guts to bring our fine lightbringer friend back her original body. I don't even know if I failed her.

And... And I hurt tricia. She's like that now because of me. And it could have been worse- so, so much worse. How could I have done that? How could I play such games with her?"
>>
>>24582314
"We started down this road before any of us ever knew of Citadel, and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a blissful ignorance. I fought for my friends, I fought for what I thought was right, and I tried to be more human, more Paladin. I felt like I had been given so much, that I had a chance where others did not, and that I should give that chance to others.

Then we found out about Citadel, and I felt like I had a mission. It was my Father's mission before me, and Granny's before that, and I want my attempt to be the last.

Even after that, at first, I felt strongly about forgiveness. If I could be seen as a person, and not a monster, then how could I not give others the same chance? I fought for the that kid from New Stone Hall, I fought for Odette. I even tried to convert Old One to the Light, and succeeded after a fashion. And you know what? I think I got used to winning. I saved you and Sandover both from Peace, and I started feeling like the Dramatae were mortal, and I could take them. I could talk anyone into or out of anything. And it was nice. It felt like becoming a better Paladin.

But maybe the name "Paladin Serpent" was a little too on the nose. I've been acting like Little Dragon lately. And Little Dragon didn't like to lose.

I didn't tell you everything about encountering Peace when I was unconscious after the ceeremony. She tried to get me to make a deal, to agree not to kill Comedy in exchange for saving Tricia. I fought against it, and by the grace of the Light I got a chance to do otherwise. I saw three horrific dolls, representing what might happen to Tricia, and I had to pick one in the hopes of saving her. I chose one that looked genuinely happy for her sake, but with a shredded body. I felt so guilty for choosing anything at all, and I very nearly took the deal from Peace just to save her; only thinking of Tricia helped me do otherwise.

>>24582541
But that was just the latest in a long line of horrible things Peace and the other Dramatae have done. And I keep seeing the things they've done to us, to me personally, and they hurt as much if not more as the atrocities against the rest of world.

Maybe I've been acting like Little Dragon, or a Leviathan. But worse than that, I think I've been acting like a Lightbringer. Those lamia, that bounty list, that was my fallen home town. I wanted so badly for there to be something there, something more than monsters. I wanted a Citadel ending to the story.

I need to learn how to act like a Paladin again, and one with a clear gem, not a red one. I need to let go of revenge, and to see justice for others rather than as a personal vendetta. I need to not let Citadel define my life as its enemy. I want everything to turn out all right. I know that it won't, and yet I still want it to, because I've done the impossible before and I want to keep doing it.

I'm not sure I know how to keep going if I have to accept loss like this. I need help. i want to be Little Snake, not Little Dragon. I need to learn how to be a Paladin, and not the Paladin Serpent.

Thus I confess."

>Used to winning when everything has been skin of our teeth shit.
Only complaint, other than that. This so fucking hard.
>>
>>24582579
No, that's the point. That's why it hurts so much when we roll badly, that's why we dig so hard for taking a third option, that's why nearly all of our party has a path to immortality now, that's all of it. We've gotten so used to winning, so used to our moments of awesome, that we're unwilling to accept even the little losses. We scramble for rerolls, we ask after dice mechanics, we read paranoia into touching letters from Father, we look for any edge that will help us *not lose*.

Thus I confess.
>>
>>24582505
"I'm a little jealous of you, honestly. This path seems to come naturally to you, Lea. There are days when I feel like you should be wearing the mantle, and not me. But people keep looking to me. You admitted once that you do it too.... or at least you used to."

"The worst feeling is that I've never seen why that is, and I'm beginning to doubt what people seem to see is even there, or was ever there in the first place."

"... so I confess."

>>
>>24582708
its more like a penny on the scale rather a main reason

We have been getting more in touch with our vengeance side rather than justice side though, for sure
>>
>>24582718
I would counterpoint that with the fact we didn't gut the two dramatae fuckers. This is a hair bit unwarranted. At least from my perspective.
>>
>>24582718
Justice is just vengeance with a good excuse: especially with crimes like the ones Peace has committed.
>>
Echo, protip as a newbie GM to an expert-seeming GM:

Read 'em all and use them as inspiration to make a gist-of-it confession. It's much quicker.
>>
>>24582730
Agreed. We've been damn merciful to many of are enemies. To the point where it's hurt us because we kept trying to save them in some shape or form.
>>
Hmm I think the problem I had with writing something up is that I don't exactly think Lea is right. We're still picking the hard options. We chose to not take Peace's offer and did everything in our power to have Tricia happy. Our last combat saw us spare the Glass Assassins AND the two pawns of the Dramatae. We also saw them go from being executed to being productive. Our newest... accessories have been primarily used as tools like everything else we have access too.

The only thing truly non-paladny I can think of is allowing Tricia to eat those guys. However we did caution her in indulging herself... perhaps not harsh enough but we do love her.
>>
>>24582747
that's not the point. I believe her when she says it was the lamia that did it.

I mean, only like 2 people helped give last words for those lamia. And mine had a bit about vengeance right in there.
>>
>>24582768
And that's more of meta issue than a IC issue.

It means people were not sure what to say.
>>
>>24582780
it becomes an IC issue when there's no dialogue but my vengeance based one.
>>
>>24582718
I wouldn't be too surprised if Old One was manipulating us too. Remember, a Dragon's supposed to be independent...now if only they weren't so butthurt over most/all the others falling (or if Old One's just being a dick/dragon).

>>24582757
Our reason for not killing the two Dramatae plants in the assassins was personal. We didn't even try to save them after the dinner. Hell, we should have gotten the books ready earlier. And remember what Avery said, we HAVE been taking command constantly...
>>
>>24582617
"The worst feeling is that I've never seen why that is, and I'm beginning to doubt what people seem to see is even there, or was ever there in the first place."

"... so I confess."

"His Light forgives all," Lea says. "And I pray that you will forgive yourself as well." She says.

She sighs.

"Do you think you can be better? Honestly?" She says. "That's the most important part. It's one thing to say you're wrong and be forgiven, and then slip back into old ways. His Light does not give Grace for cheap. Absolution costs you. You are willing, at least you say you're willing...but...when you lose, and don't get what you want, will you just keep trying or wail like Citadel? When I tell you that I do not WANT to keep on living, or have a longer life span, or be immortal...do you have the ability to accept it? Or will you always just nod at me and smile and in the back of your mind howl with rage at my decision and be upset?" She looks at you dead on. "I'm not asking you to accept my decision, but I want you to accept that is IS my decision!" She sighs and smiles at you. "I don't mean to be all doom and gloom and 'burn away the Darkness' but..." She sighs. "I will stay with you. For as long as you are willing to look at yourself and see when you're becoming the Dragon again, instead of the Paladin. I will stay, and help you. And right now...you need to stop." She says. "We can go to the mansion, but we're going there to see Lord Holting. We can go to the Fey Court...to keep our promise to Robin. Or we could go to Coral Gate, to HELP the Mer. Not to stop the hunters, and NOT to 'get them on OUR side' and NOT as a solution to the Leviathan...the ship." She says. "You understand what I'm saying...and you are willing to listen." She nods. "I will stay."

She opens the window and lets the soft light of the evening come into the room. She blows out the candle, and then comes over to you and hugs you.
>>
>>24582799
>we didn't even try to save them
They had already escaped at that point. It's only in retrospect we realize they were in danger.
>>
>>24582757
She's not entirely right, but she's not entirely wrong, either. It's a motivation thing. It's not like our actions haven't been pretty much entirely those of an honorable Paladin. That's why she said we were like a Dragon or Leviathan pretending to be a Paladin.

>>24582768
This, exactly. And I immediately seconded it, without even thinking about how the sentiment didn't fit, because I was still thinking about the bounty letter and how it gave us one more reason to want Peace and the Dramatae dead.

I'm a little upset that a lot of the meta planning of possible things to look into is being used against us. I didn't think it was in doubt that our intention wasn't honest. This seems like a bit of a stretch to get lea to comment on our OOC behavior.

Or we could go to Coral Gate, to HELP the Mer. Not to stop the hunters, and NOT to 'get them on OUR side' and NOT as a solution to the Leviathan...the ship." She says. "You understand what I'm saying...and you are willing to listen." She nods. "I will stay."

...man. That's the kind of thing I was thinking about when I wrote
>>24582607
, but with a half-dozen other things I wasn't even seeing when I was trying to look for them. We really are mapping out a todo list these days, and it isn't wrongs to right; it's "how do we gear up for war against Citadel".

>>24582842
When we talked about going to Coral Gate, how many people were thinking about how to help the Mer, and how many people were thinking about how the Mer could help us?
>>
>>24582801
Huh. So we just sort of did all the confessions? I like it.

"Thank you Lea. I don't know if I can do better. I really would like to believe I can. If only I made the right decision, if only, if only.

But I will TRY. I swear to you that. I am trying. I've been trying. I'm going to keep trying. I just hope you'll be there to help me when I'm unsure. "

"I still want to help the mer, and repay robin, and talk to holting. I also want to do something about all those being rounded up into slavery with this bounty out right now. Can I ask- what ABOUT comedy, and the leviathan, and all of that? They have to be attended to, don't they?"
>>
>>24582865
>how many people were thinking about how to help the Mer, and how many people were thinking about how the Mer could help us?

Both? Because that was very much the way I was going into it. We help them out as much as we can and ask if we can get some help in return, if they don't. Then so be it. We did what we felt was right at the end of the day. We can't force anyone into doing anything for us.
>>
>>24582801
Guys. We're a paladin. First priority is to Coral Gate to make sure the Mer don't get flexed with. 2nd priority is to our oath ie. helping Robin.

And on the way, we -MUST- help Mage with something he has to do. We gotta talk to him, apologize for just dumping our whims and pet projects on him like a fucking intern. He's our brother.
>>
hmm, I never got the sense we were trying to recruit the Mer. Merely warn them and ask them for help with gathering ingredients.

As far as not hunting down the Dramatae... thats a mistake. They are MAKING an army. Thousands will die if we do not stop them. 'monster' and person alike. The longer we let them be the more assured their plans will come to fruition.

Leviathan itself can be left alone until it becomes a genuine threat.
>>
>>24582886
yup, pretty much.
>>
>>24582801
"Lea... I never cared that you didn't want to be immortal. I honestly accepted it as your choice, and I had no plans to try and force a longer life span or anything on you. I don't... see how that has anything to do with Citadel or us fighting them, or why that means we should stop fighting the Dramatae..."
>>
>>24582812
Good point. Maybe I'll pay a bit more attention to the thread and be around for it.

>>24582861
Kinda glad to see someone else noticing this, felt kinda alone.
>>
>>24582865
Given I'm not everyone? I have no idea, but I was for going there BECAUSE they were the most directly threatened by bad things happening next. We know what we need to do regarding citadel, at least with regard to the mirrors. We have done most of our factfinding. I felt this was fighting the resultant flash fires of the dramatae fighting back. Not allies. I personally? No intention of being lord of the new empire, which is something a dragon would want to be.
I like plans I like making them, I like worldbuilding. Thats why I suggested the semaphore towers made of the mirrors, it serves a dual purpose and would help stop advance civilization.
Getting a hit like this is like a fucking punch in the dick out of left field. Especially when we have been handling our companions with kid gloves AFTER the fucking dragon incident when nobody wanted to talk.
>>
>>24582911
>would help stop advance civilization.
Fuck I'm tired and pissed. Remove the stop.
>>
>>24582865
>how many people were thinking about how to help the Mer, and how many people were thinking about how the Mer could help us

You can't really help the Mer, Elves, Harpies, or Lamia without dealing with Citadel in the long run, and you can't deal with Citadel without dealing with all the other crap. So really, it's both the right thing to do AND the pragmatic thing to do: both a means AND a worthy goal itself.

The two rationales aren't mutually exclusive.
>>
>>24582801
So, a response to what Lea said:

"You're right, Lea. We...I've been mapping out a plan to take down Citadel and the Dramatae, and I've started seeing everything as a means to that end. I really have turned into a little Lightbringer, haven't I? Go on quest, get reward for use in the coming battles. I was thinking about Coral Gate because of the mind-protection potion Old One mentioned, and what to do about the Leviathan, and barely gave any thought to the Mer. We helped the lizard people for much better reasons, but even with the harpies we...I was looking for a way to help Bronze Peak more than I sought to save the harpies.

And about the immortaliity thing...I've always accepted that it was your decision, but I admit to not understanding it, and to feeling a rather selfish desire to keep my friends around forever, not just in memory but in the flesh. I'm not sure I'll ever fully accept it, but know that I'd never go against your wishes about it.

We still have to fight the Dramatae, and I can't overlook opportunities to do that, but you're right that I need to pay closer attention to when I'm thinking like a Dragon rather than a Paladin. There's a balance there, I think; I need to think like a dragon sometimes, but use that to be a better Paladin and not a dragon."
>>
>>24582889
Calm down and think what the Dramatae would -actually- accomplish by forming an army.

>Bring strife to the land (steps on citadel's toes a bit)
>Manufacture a massive resource sink
>Collect a clumsy, hard-to-mobilze opposition which could never harm/catch our cadre lest we charge into it.

Really, if they gather a huge army and we stay ou of their way, they'll be dragged down by the weight of their own unsustainable muscle. The only real worry is saving the "monster" kin. They largely have no free will under citadel, unlike humans, so they can't help themselves.
>>
>>24582911
>Especially when we have been handling our companions with kid gloves AFTER the fucking dragon incident when nobody wanted to talk.

FUCK THIS TOO. Dear god. We wanted to talk that shit out but 'oh noes too soon too soon' and we said Fine. Okay. We left an open door for them to come to us. When they felt like it. Did any of them? NOPE.
>>
>>24582932
>what would the dramatae do with an army OF MONSTERS

get them killed. All of our peoples. Killed. To prepare the lightbringer sacrifice.
>>
>>24582927
Thing is, there's a line between Paladin and Pragmatic Dragon. We had begun to drift quite far. We saw everything as "how does this help ME" and "stop Citadel at all costs"
>>
>>24582865
We need to give Mage the gift of working for Valve. The book is a book of suggestions, not things to do. He's known for a while what to do on his own, and if we can't convince him, it probably doesn't need to be done.

Oh, and we totally should spend some time with Lea. Learning to sing, possibly. xD
>>
>>24582932
the thing is they are using the army as a threat to the new Lightbringers. The Lightbringers will defeat Adahn... then the army will dissolve.
>>
Actually Tricia did come to us about her issues... its kinda what led to her becoming Made of Bugs tm
>>
>>24582863
"Thank you, Lea. I'll be better for it, I know.

"I will TRY. I swear to you that. I am trying. I've been trying. I'm going to keep trying. I just hope you'll be there to help me when I'm unsure.

"And honestly, I was sore that I wasn't the Little Dragon anymore at first. But then Granny took to calling me "Little Snake," and you know what I realized? I don't WANT to be the "Little Dragon", because that's not who I am. It's not who I should be."

"I still want to help the mer, and repay Robin, and talk to Holting. I also want to do something about all those being rounded up into slavery with this bounty out right now. Can I ask- what ABOUT Comedy, and the Leviathan, and all of that? They have to be attended to, don't they?"

Lea lets go and bops you on the head. "Of course, and we're going to face those fuckers down, and teach them you don't fuck with the Dawnchasers." She smiles at you. "But, we have to do it the right way, or else it all goes wrong." She says. "We do it the right way, and this never happens again, and the kingdom becomes something good. If we don't...then it's just the same story as the First Lightbringer. One where we have to keep winning and winning and winning until we collapse and go back to the way things used to be. In one form or another." She squares her shoulder. "Plus, Peace hurt me, I owe the bitch a broken rib." She sighs. "Of course you know that all of this is just me, and my opinions." She hands you your vestments back. "I'm probably wrong about a good deal of it...but thank you for hearing me." She smiles at you. "We do as best we can, fumbling in this Darkness."
>>
>>24582952
And how many villages and towns get razed by that point? How many humans would completely refuse to allow any surviving "monsters" to live after that?

That's my main concern.
>>
>>24582952
Then why not charge alongside the lightbringers? We can always insert ourselves into LB business again to fuck up the dramatae's plans. Even easier/safer if we cut down one or two dramatae first. But I digress.

>>24582936
For once I agree with you. We have to have a big sit-down with each of our comrades in turn and clear the air. Starting with Lea and what was eating away at her in the Dark Peaks.
>>
>>24582936
Please for the love of god remove the name. I want to agree with you but I don't remember you from earlier threads and jesus dick it gets annoying.
>>24582930
>>24582945
Except we haven't. Hell, most of OOC is either semilewd suggestions, or planning. Part of the point is to ESCAPE the goddamn "land spirit handles everything" mentality citadel is in. This means accounting for damn near everything. The worst of my suggestions at least have bordered on repurposing things in a way that benefits our fledgling society, not us in particular. In fact, we've been more about "How does this help those outside citadels influence" and "How do we stop citadel from mindraping shit"
Its fucking insulting to suggest otherwise. Especially in a fucking condescending passive aggressive manner such as this.
>>
>>24582936
We've talked through Tricia's issues already in a couple of conversations, and this is Lea coming to us, finally. Mage still has a few things to work through, though we probably ought to have a chat with him about the todo list and how magic tends to be our first thought when trying to do the "impossible". Mari and Peri had less in the way of issues with us and more with each other, and those have mostly been dealt with.

>>24582945
Yeah, exactly. Personally, I enjoyed Lea (and Echo) getting inside my head a bit. I won't speak for anyone else, but in my case it really, *really* worked.
>>
>>24582930
Actually, Story Stitcher, replace Dragon with dragon. Dragons are what people see, dragons are what they are. That's why Ssen's father called her a Dragon.
>>
>>24582987
And the spoilers get annoying. Welcome to my world.
>>
With you five being my Lanterns perhaps we will find the path we need to end this.

Hug her.
>>
>>24582970
"And to think, I'm supposed to be holding the lantern for us all. Thank you for the talk, Lea. I still have no idea what to do, but I'm a bit more content about it.

Say, I've been kicking around the idea for a while, but if either of us lives through this, I want to start a school. Teach people like me how to speak, teach people how to make machines, or trades, just teach. Whadda you think, while we're still doing confessions and all?"
>>
>>24582970
"Lea, there may have been a few things I disagree with, but you were spot on. Thank you." /hug
>>
>>24582998
you're just kind of a dick is all.
>>
>>24583015
Always have been.
>>
>>24582970
"Aye. I hope we can each make the other's best a bit better.

Which reminds me, Lea. About what happened in the Dark peaks. Do you want to talk about that?"
>>
>>24583027
Pretty sure we just did, though we might want to say so explicitly.
>>
>>24582970
"... speaking of Peace, I wonder how far into Citadel's story she and her crew have fallen? I wonder if they're even in control anymore..."

"Anyway, you've still not told me what people see in me... but maybe it would be more helpful if you just told Alexander instead? I think he's still mad... and worse, rightfully so."
>>
>>24583006
"And to think, I'm supposed to be holding the lantern for us all. Thank you for the talk, Lea. I still have no idea what to do, but I'm a bit more content about it.

"Which reminds me, Lea. About what happened in the Dark peaks. Do you want to talk about that?"

Lea rubs her arms. She looks very uncomfortable and then she nods. "You don't waste any time, do you? Alright, what's good for the lamia is good for the monk." She sighs. "I should leave the jokes to the others. Go ahead, let's talk about it." She looks to the side. "Anything specific? I've actually tried to not think about that moment."
>>
>>24583045
no, we handled the immediate stuff to get her out of her breakdown, but the issues remain there.
>>
>>24582987
The main complaint is that it seems like its ignoring the issues that were brought up earlier. Only to find it hitting us later despite my warnings. I am a little tired of being the unheard warning in quests and having something like this show up just seems to be setting me up for it once again.
>>
>>24583056
For starters, what's so bad you won't even look at me? This isn't a confession, I just want to help if I can.
>>
>>24583056
"You had made mention that I prayed too much at times. Call upon His Light more than I should. "

There was something else too but I cannot recall it.
>>
>>24583056
Well the Dragon was messing with all our heads pretty badly, you remember. He stirred up some bad stuff in you; some fear of losing your mind?
>>
Sometimes I wish Echo had an IRC I could bitch at him in rather than shit up the thread. I just can't ignore it when I see stuff I find iffy. Too many arguments starting between people when all I want is an acknowledgement from him.
>>
>>24583056
for reference,

the start of Dark Peaks influence and making the team freak out.
>>
>>24583091
>"Notice me, Echo-senpai!"
>>
>>24583091
he has an email you can contact. Fuck if I remember it. It was in a thread.
>>
>>24583103
>>24583098
Its a bit of a moot point. I'm going to be going to the land of no internet for seven months at the end of this week anyway so I don't know why I should even bother.
>>
>>24583096
Right she was worried about losing control of her mind again after what happen in Citadel. That she really was helpless.
>>
>>24583111
and freaking out about her mind being the only thing she has left.
>>
She also snapped at us for calling on the Light every time we did something.

"Maybe it wasn't the Lamias. Maybe I was already acting like a Dragon, expecting the Light to come when I called for it, like a dog."
>>
>>24583116
Yeah the only parts of her not 'ruined.' Her mind and faith.
>>
>>24583086
"You had made mention that I prayed too much at times. Call upon His Light more than I should. "

She nods. "I hated that. When I had the disease, and when I was in recovery. I was with other people. And all day, all I heard was people praying to His Light, promising things, demanding things, acting like all they needed to do was the right amount of faith, devotion, and self sacrifice, and they'd get everything they'd want." She sighs. "Like His Light is that carnival game with the wheel, all you have to do is get the wheel to stop on your number and you win anything you want!" She shakes her head. "I think I hated it so much, because I was the worst of them. I would go over the teachings, the meditations of the teachings, the letters of Her Illuminated Selves. I kept looking for the right secret...the proper way of the faithful, and I would be rewarded with health and beauty." She sighs. "And when I hear other people doing it, a little part of that girl is still there, trying to get them to shut up so His Light can hear me do it right.

"So that's why I can't be a Paladin. I'd be as bad as Odette was, or worse." She shakes her head. "But when I'm around you and the Dawnchasers...well...it helps me see His Light clearer. What he truly wants from us, not just words." She shakes her head. "That was what that was about."
>>
>>24583056
>>24583078
This. "Everything we all said up there was to some extent true. Some of it was said more harshly than we really felt, but all of the feelings were real."

"I'm assuming that what we just talked about played no small part in what was said up there?" (Wait for her to react.)

"But there's more to it than that, for both of us.

You mentioned how much I rely on prayer. It started out because it really did have an effect when trying to ward off the influence of malicious land spirits like Citadel and the Dragon who Was of Shadow. But...
>>24583130
this.

"The big one, though, was when you said your mind and your faith was all you had left that hadn't been ruined, and that you didn't want to have to be saved, by me in particular.

Do you really feel that way, Lea? I can tell you that that feeling was part of why I thought about seeking out dragon's blood for you; not to make you immortal but because I thought you were unhappy with, well, [gesture to the bandages] this."
>>
>Lea's oh shit face when we mention our ideas for the Caligo Scholarus basically shit all over her criticisms about us only thinking about war.
>>
>>24583146
I would like the misunderstanding regarding exactly why we offered the blood cleared up yes. So I'm going to second this.
>>
>>24583141
"Makes sense. Sorry for bringing it up again, I just figured if there was any more air to clear, it needed to be cleared."

Have we brought up the school yet? I feel like we need to tell our partymembers or the idea will die with us if we die.
>>
>>24583141
Hey Echo, what's your Lamia-quest related e-mail, I wanted to ask you a few questions about GMing games. Also, apparently you has fans, ever think of starting an IRC channel?
>>
>>24583150
I'd definitely like to mention that, too.

>>24583141
"Here you are, teaching me how to be a better Paladin, and you say you couldn't be one yourself. You'd be a wonderful Paladin, Lea, if that's a path you want to walk.

>>24583146
>It started out because it really did have an effect when trying to ward off the influence of malicious land spirits like Citadel and the Dragon who Was of Shadow.

And later on, it worked with Beacon and Rachel. Maybe I was spoiled by having my prayers actually answered, visibly and immediately; that's a boon few ever get, and not one I should count on for anything more than clear minds and the freedom to make our own solutions to problems. That's all we can ask for, really."
>>
>>24583146
The second half of this now.
>>
>get an IRC
>be yelled at in real time
>>
>>24583169
Yeah. I won't claim that the dream of the immortal Dawnchasers didn't cross my mind, but that wasn't the original motivation.
>>
>>24583200
Agreed. I've been trying to word that part just can't get it to turn out.
>>
>>24583186
We should. It also would kind of kill doubt that we were only planning for war. Which would be at least a minor vindication in that we weren't 'entirely' dragon mode (Though I still dispute that we were in the first place..). I suggest we do so after this talk. To Lea first, since it would resonate with her more
>>
>>24583219
>>24583186
>>24583141
well then, might I suggest this chunk of dialogue from earlier for when we finally do?

"Say, I've been kicking around the idea for a while, but if either of us lives through this, I want to start a school. Teach people like me how to speak, teach people how to make machines, or trades, just teach. Whadda you think, while we're still doing confessions and all?"
>>
>>24583231
Sounds good.
>>
>>24583231
>>24583234
Provided we append with how we wanted to get the red involved as a means of showing them there was more than just purge and smite. Which IS something we discussed.
>>
>>24583231
YES! thank god one of you brought up the Schola Clarus idea.
>>
>>24583146
"The big one, though, was when you said your mind and your faith was all you had left that hadn't been ruined, and that you didn't want to have to be saved, by me in particular."

"My body betrayed me, and I had to be saved by Cups. My family's a mess, I had different mother every five years, and a father who made me feel like I owed him, so I never left him until my last mother showed me that he was an ass and I left with her." She sighed. "I've always been in need of help. I never was happy with it, but I accepted it. But I always felt that my faith, my knowledge of all of His Light, was strong. It was what helped me get past all the bad crap, once I stopped treating it like a contest or butler." She sighed. "Then, I turn around, and even in that. I'm weak, helpless, and someone needs to save me." She shrugs. "It gets to you, who wants to life their life feeling like a damsel in distress over and over and over again? Doesn't matter if it's true...I'm just tired of having to be saved from my own weakness or inability. I wanted to be strong enough to resist Citadel on my own, like you or Tricia. Instead, I'm as weak as any normal person...and I don't like that...not when it hit me with my faith."
>>
>>24583249
>No mention of our original reasons for offering the dragon blood.
echo pls. I expect what she will say but pls.
>>
>>24583263
it seems like this isn't a prompt for us to respond. Which means more is coming.
>>
>>24583249
It hit you with your faith, it hit Tara with her anger, Mage with his diligence, Mari/Peri with money and power. And it hit Tricia with ME.

It's not because you were weak, it's because Citadel uses your strengths like a tool and a weapon.
>>
>>24583249
"Lea, I'm not that strong. Ssen as surrounded by loyal comrades is strong. And, you know, I'm -glad- you have times where you need help. If you never needed anyone, you wouldn't be a part of the world, and I like having you around."
>>
>>24583286
Insightful, and well said.
>>
>>24583249
"Now now lea, none of us could resist Citadel on our own back then. I was unconscious, I didn't count. And Tricia- I think I was her obsession. Months at my bedside, they told me. Months."
>>
>>24583286
"And it hit me with the struggle to be a Paladin, not to mention a little resentment of you for that, since it seems to come so naturally to you."
>>
It's should also be mentioned that while we were the first to shake off the effects of the Peaks, we weren't able to help everyone else. And the Dragon Who Was of Shadow came down on us like a hammer afterwards.
>>
>>24583286
Strengths and fears, really; Mari and Peri are stronger together, but they fear losing their senses of self. Mage has that incredible diligence, but he fears letting people down. Tricia feared that Ssen was the best she could do, even though Tricia's the one that acts as Ssen's pillar of strength and support.
>>
>>24583146
"Sometimes, I want to feel like I'm the best one in the room, that I'm the hero. The Paladin." Lea says.

"Do you really feel that way, Lea? I can tell you that that feeling was part of why I thought about seeking out dragon's blood for you; not to make you immortal but because I thought you were unhappy with, well," You gesture to her body. "This."

She nods. "I wont lie, and say I wouldn't accept it." She says. "But I do have my pride, and part of me thinks that looking this way...like it justifies me getting things, or being better than others. I can live with this, so I get to be better than you, that kind of mindset." She says. "That's what makes me not supposed to be the Paladin in the group, because I want it for reasons like that. Because sometimes I feel that after all the things I've been through that I deserve it. That I'm the one who knows the most, so I'm the most qualified for it." She deflates. "And I know that's no kind of person who should EVER be a Paladin."

"Now now Lea, none of us could resist Citadel on our own back then. I was unconscious, I didn't count. And Tricia- I think I was her obsession. Months at my bedside, they told me. Months."

She nods. "I know, but it's a cold comfort. You see another person covered in filth, it doesn't mean that the shit you're covered in stinks less." She shakes her head. "I don't know." She sighs. "I'm tired...it's been a long day." She says. "I'd like to go to bed."

"Before you go to bed," You say. "I've been kicking around the idea for a while, but if either of us lives through this, I want to start a school. Teach people like me how to speak, teach people how to make machines, or trades, just teach. What do you think?"

Lea smiles. "That's...that's a fantastic idea." She stands for a moment. "Wow. That's...amazing, Ssen. It's a great idea." She shakes her head. "Shows what I know about other people." She shrugs. "Anything else?"
>>

And we're done for the evening. The next thread may be on Saturday, but it's a little iffy. There's other factors at work. But the next thread for sure will be 6-7pm Sunday, May 5th.

I'd like to thank you all again for allowing me that redo with Liam's letter. Hopefully fuck-ups of that magnitude wont happen again.

I look forward to seeing you all again.
Email is included, for those who wish to contact me. I make no promises on the speed of responses.

May his light be with you.

I look forward to seeing you on saturday, echo. You've always come through on the maybes before.

Apologies from the playerbase for all the bickering earlier. That slows down questpace a good deal.
