>Second thread!

The gas giant was large, the clouds pale and blue, swirling constantly and you saw the moon below, shining green and covered in fog. Various terraformation satellites filtered the green out, replacing it with normal air constantly, while the orbital stations sat silent, drifting.
This world wasn't particularly populated, you could tell. Only three small colonies.. though they were very well developed.
"This is home." Summer said. "The upper atmosphere isn't very safe, but the lower one is fine. We keep it filtered."

You look down at it, and you can see the enormous liner that had taken the councilors to the institute was attached to the moon's orbital station.

"Surya, this is Valesi ground control. Surya, this is Valesi ground control." The intercom said. "Your trajectory says you're coming in for a landing. Is this right? You'll need authorization."
"Hey, Tannis!" Summer called. "It's me and a friend!"
"... Oh, Summer! Okay, come on down. I have a landing zone for you and everything." The intercom said.
>>
>>24552670
"Haha. Landing. Yeah."
>>
>>24552670
Land!
We did research how to land after the disaster last time, right? Right?
>>
>>24552670
Um.
How about we just dock and take a shuttle down? Landing seems like a BAD IDEA until we've had a LOT of practice.
>>
"Haha... landing... yeah." You say. You did do a bunch of research a few days after that incident on Sarvesh's homeworld, and spent a run through the simulator... but this was the real deal.
And you didn't have either Omni to do it for you, or Sarvesh to help you if something went wrong.
"... You'll be fine." Summer said. "I believe in you!"
Carefully, you slowed yourself so that your trajectory projected you toward the landing zone, and, biting your lip, slid out the heat shield. You held onto the stick, holding it still, and kept an eye on the atmospheric projections. There'd be an eddie in five seconds, and you just had to... lean... into it....

You twisted the stick slightly, and slid right through the eddie and below. The atmosphere got less and less green the further down you went. You'd passed the hard part, and you were quickly slowing...
So you whirled the thrusters downward and fired them up, slowing you more and more until... you stopped, just fifty feet above the surface. Carefully, you eased up on the thrusters, lowering and lowering... and then finally, you touched down.
And nothing exploded.
"See, toldja." Summer said. "Come on, I want to introduce you to Auntie Tannis!"

>It was in permasage, sadly. Would've died eventually.

You let go of the breath you'd been holding.
"I wasn't worried at all." You lied.
"Yeah, you weren't." She said.
"Sweet, let's go." You say, and climb out of your chair, getting to your feet. "Is she an uplift tiger too?"
Summer giggled. "Nah, she's actually like my cousin or something. She's just older than I am."
The two of you made your way out of the ship, and you locked it up tight behind you. The sky was brilliant green and rather foggy, and the way the sun reflected through the atmosphere made it almost look greener, though you knew from the navigational data that it was a yellow sun. On the horizon, barely visible through the atmosphere, was the great gas giant.
Summer instantly started padding along, and you followed as she went into the control tower. In there, sitting in a chair and with headphones was a girl almost ten years older than you, with incredibly dark skin and even darker hair, dyed red in strips.
"Hey, Tannis!" Summer said, and pulled the woman into a hug. She giggled.
"Summer. Who's your friend?"
"This is Heather. She made that ship, and owns it. She's also my best friend."
"Nice to meetcha!" Tannis called, and pulled you into a hug as well.
>>

"Hiya!"

"Yup, that's me. Where are we going, Summer?"
>>
"Hiya!" You say. "Summer hasn't told me anything about you at all!"
"She hasn't told me anything about you either!" She said, and grinned.
"... Sorry." Summer said, and both of you gave her ear scritches.
"Well, I had better get back to work." Tannis said. "Don't want to keep you from showing off."
"Alright! Do you know if mom's in?"
"She isn't yet." Tannis said. "She's up on the orbital station. Should be down here later today."
"Okay. Thanks!"
"Alright, take care you two."
"We will!"

>Field too long!
>>
>>24553218
The two of you make your way out of the control tower, and Summer continued padding. It almost looked like the downtown of a large city, but it was almost... a ghost town, with a few people here or there, but there didn't seem to be many. The gravity was incredibly light, and Summer was almost bouncing along. "And this is my place!" She said, and showed you.
It was most likely one of the larger buildings in the city. A full mansion, complete with alloyed slanted walls that made it look almost pyramidish, and thrumming atmospheric control systems through the vents around the edges. Summer walked close, and put her paw on the door, and it chimed, opening.
<Yay, summer's home!> The automated door cried, cheering happily.
Inside was just as spacious and large. There was a huge couch in the corner connected to a tridscreen nearly as large as Sarvesh's, and everything was spectacularly clean and well lit. You bit your lip... Perfect. That was the word for what this place looked like. Like someone had spent years trying to make this place perfect. It looked like the homes in a commercial, save the fact that all the doors and cabinets didn't have knobs, but bars, letting uplifts pull and close them with a paw.
"What do you think?" Summer asked.
>>
>>24553236
"It's a model home! Perfect!"

"Also, the door loves you."
>>
>>24553236
"It's amazing! The door seemed really excited to see you."
>>
>>24553236
"Summer, you know how to live."
>>
>>24553236
Woah, no expense spared!

We have to lounge on that couch later. Or I'll be very sad.

Where's your room?
>>
>>24553236
"Your parents have got it *made*!"
>>
"It's amazing!" You say. "The door really seemed excited to see you."
"Did it? Yay!" She said.
"And this is a model home! It's perfect!"
"Mom gets really anal about things not being just right." She said, and lay down on the couch with a huff.
"You really know how to live. Where's your room?"
"Right! This way." She said, and led you through the extensive halls of the place, and you entered a room that you'd seen before- the very one that Summer accidentally sent you to when she got really high on catnip. The bed was covered in stuffed animals and pillows, and the walls were covered in posters of everything conceivable. A clawed up magazine lay in the trash, and the tridvision was still on, playing something. In the corner was a haptic gaming machine, heavily modified for what looked like uplift usage.
"... I ... I forgot to turn this off when I left." She said, and tapped off the tridscreen with a paw. "Whoops."
Then she giggled. "For weeks. And I don't think they noticed."

>>
"What, not even any housekeepers coming in to clean?" You asked. "With a house this big, that doesn't really surprise me."
"They stay out of my room." She said. "Because mom wants me to learn to clean up my own messes."
You sit down on her enormous, fuzzy bed, and look at one of the stuffed lions.
"Lil'summer is cuter." You say.
"No, this lil' guy's name is Lionel!" Summer said. "He's adorable!"
>>
>>24553522
"Why don't you make a Lil'Lionel!"
>>
>>24553522
He is adorable, but Lil'Summer is cuter.

Hey, could you make a bigger Lionel? I'd like to meet him.
>>
>>24553522
"What, clean up when you're not here? I'd imagine even a tidy room would need dusting when its occupant is away for weeks."
>>
"Why don't you make a lil'lionel?" You ask.
"Because he's a stuffed animal." Summer said.
"He is adorable, but Lil'summer is cuter."
"Well, duh. That's because I'm the cutest thing that exists."

You giggle, and relax on the bed.
"So do your parents live here, or separately?"
"They all live here." Summer responded.
"And what does your father do, by the way?"
"He runs Greycorp. It's one of those places that has all sorts of subsidary companies that all do their own things." Summer said. "And mom started up one of the small buisinesses here when the colony was made."

"So what did you do with yourself before you came to the institute?"
"Watched television, studied on my own, played videogames... I took walks at noon every day to say hi to everyone in the colony." She said. "That's pretty much all I do."
"You know, now that I think about it, all of the natural psions at the institute have parents that do- or did- something significant. I wonder if it's just a coincidence?"
"... I didn't even think about that before." Summer said. "What do your parents do? One's a mechanic and the other is a cook, isn't she?"

The two of you giggled for a while, and then one of the machines in the walls chimed. Summer looked out the window, and turned back. You saw an ioncar slowly set down outside, and saw Laurent climb out, pulling a younger, beautiful girl to her feet.
"Hey, mom and dad are here!" Summer said, and got to her paws. "Do I look fine? No fur sticking out weirdly, nothing like that?"
You look her over, and give her a nod.
"Okay! Let's go!"
She led you back into the main room.
"Hey, mom, dad! I let a friend in!" Summer called, padding her way over. The woman and Laurent gave you a look and a smile, respectively.

"Oh, really?"
"She did make a ship." Laurent said. "I rode on its maiden voyage."
"Impressive!" She said, coming back with a sodacan for Laurent and a bowl for Summer. "What's your current project? Just working on that ship more, or...?"
"I think it's that big exo power suit thing, isn't it?" Summer asked. "Omnissiah was talking about his work with it during breakfast."
"Ooh, who's Omnissiah?" She asked, giving you a glass of water and some coffee.
"That's... kind of complex. Omni's special." Summer said, thinking.
>>
>>24554499
"I'm not really sure what I should say about Omni. But he's a rather brilliant AI that we rescued."

"And yes, I'm working on a superheavy exosuit now. Omni is fabricating the shield generators and I just need to furnish the helmet with a HUD and some other things, then it'll be done."

>>
"He's a friend of ours." You say. "He's an AI. I'm not sure how much I should say beyond that; it's a sensitive topic that probably has a half dozen layers of top-secret on it."
"Oh, don't worry about that." Jane said. "If it's top secret, then say no more! Just tell him I said hello."
"But yes, I am making an exosuit. It's mostly done, I just need a bit more on the wiring- I'll finish the helmet on the way back."
"Ooh, interesting." Laurent said. "Any chance I could-"

"By the way, your house is very nice." You say, and take another drink of water. "I mean that in a literal sense. Your doors especially; all of the machines in here are polite, kind, and very excited to see Summer again."
"Polite and kind? Huh." She said. "That'd mean you're... er, I think it was one of these magazines in here..." She said, and then shook her head. "In the magazine! Techno... path-sis?"
"Technopathy, mom."
"Right, right, I'm sorry." She said, and scritched Summer's ear.

<Go ahead, Summer, I'm right here.>
"It's about Winter."
"Oh?" Jane asked, and she appropriated her own neutral expression.
"I... I didn't know she was... imaginary, until recently." Summer said.
"I... see." She said. "How are you feeling?"
"Well... I just wanted to thank you two for... well, putting up with her. And me. And stuff. And that's pretty much it." Summer said.
After a moment, she paused, and giggled.
"Seems kind of stupid to come all the way here to talk about an imaginary friend, now that I think about it." Summer added, before Jane pulled her into a tight, tight hug. You hear servos- and then you realize- Jane was covered, head to toe, in implants. Nothing around her brain or internal organs, but her entire skeletal structure had been revamped, and there was something pumping transgenes into her body.
"It's fine. It's not stupid at all." Jane said. "As far as I'm concerned, Winter's as real as you want her to be."
Then she giggled.

If it's meant to correct for some medical condition or anything like that. See if there's any hidden weapons or the like. If we can see what the transgenes being pumped into her are meant to do.

You nod, and turn to Jane.

"Jane, you're all... roboty!" You say. "That's so cool!"
"It is?"
"Can I take a look? With technopathy?"
"Oh, go ahead." She said.
Carefully, you read them- they were braced around her bones, holding them in place, and most of them seemed to be designed around gaining diagnostic data from her body- like redundant, invasive scanners. From what you could tell, they mostly seemed medical- there to strengthen her bones and immune system, filtering her food intake and such. From your perspective, you could only really tell that the implants were nearly twenty years old, now.
And then you find her medical record inside of an RFID. You don't look at most of it, but one thing was clear- that she was born with a genetic disorder, and that the transgene was part of an on-going thirty year process of fixing them, and desterilizing her.
When you open your eyes, Summer was purring, and Jane was absentmindedly scratching Summer's chin.
"You see anything weird?" Jane asked, meeting your eyes.

>Selling designs of your ship when you can make money infinitely other ways.
Lets not. Surya is our baby.
>>
>>24555058
"No, I find when dealing with implants they don't speak. And if they do, it's with the mind of the person."
>>
>>24555058
I'm no doctor, but it all look like it's working as it was intended to.
I'm really impressed, it's such a complicated system!
>>
>>24555058
"nothing really"
<your medical file; sorry if you wanted it kept secret...>

"and if you want to buy the designs Mr. Grayson I'm sure I can call up omni or Sarvesh and see if they'd want to sell it. as for the armor, well it isn't finished yet."
>>
>>24555058
"Looks like it's all medical stuff. Not a single implant that gives you super-strength or lets you fly! Very weird."
>>
>>24555058
"Depends on what you consider weird. Implants don't really have a personality of their own, they're part of the person they're implanted into, but I did find your medical history and why everything was there.

I'm not really good with bio stuff, but I hope it's been helping.

You should come by the School some time, I can't promise anything, but a friend of ours may be able to help you."
>>
Rolled 14, 11, 7, 9 = 41

>>24555108
Selling our stuff is chump-tier.

First we found an engineering firm and employ them, *then* we license out the tech we make,
>>
>>24555058
"Interesting, but not weird. It's very extensive, I'm impressed. And all of it is functioning as intended."
>>
>>24555058
Enthuse about all the neat things we learned about how implants are put together!
>>
"Looks like you've got about another decade left? If you can make time to swing by the institute, I'm betting we could speed that up considerably."
>>
>>24555161
Theta's really the only one who can help her, and I'm not sure offering like that would be a good idea if we haven't check with him first.
>>
>>24555196
Yeah, we need to stop using the clones as machines that can use psionics. that's what Armatec did, and while they seem used to it it still seems wrong to me.
>>
>>24555196
agreed
>>
"Looks like it's all medical stuff." You say. "Not a single implant that gives you super-strength or lets you fly! Very weird."
Jane giggled again. "If you think that's weird, you haven't met many cyborgs." She said. "Some of them have really weird things. Like this one fellow had these two big... mechadar gites or something. Big robot tentacle bits."
"It's very extensive. I'm impressed. And all of it's functioning as intended."
"Glad to hear I won't die today, then!" She cheered, raising both arms.
"Don't joke about that, Mom." Summer said, and pouted at her.
"Oh, I can joke all I want. I'd have like a few weeks anyway, if they shut down."
"Well, anyway, I do want to thank you guys for being awesome." Summer said.
"You were cute enough as a kitten to be worth any hardship." Jane giggled, and scritched at Summer's head again.
"Oh! That reminds me!" Summer said, and focused. She focused hard... and then lil'summer appeared on her own head.
"Ohmygodthat'ssocute!" Jane called, and hugged the kitten. It mewed. "It's a baby you!"
"I manifested it! I can do a lot of cool things now."
"She's so cute!" Jane called, tickling the tiger kitten's belly. It wiggled it's paws. "Heheheheheh~"
>>
>>24555196
True, we should mention it to Theta though when we get back, ask him himself rather than volunteering him without his go-ahead.
>>
>>24555196
Alright then, change it to:
"Looks like you've got about another decade left? If you can make time to swing by the institute and convince Theta, I'm betting he could speed that up considerably."
>>
>>24555226
Laurent's been rather quiet, what's he up to?

"Ooh, Lil'Max too!"
>>
>>24555236
Let's actually talk to Theta ourselves first, make sure he's okay with it. Even that would be kind of putting him on the spot.
>>
>>24555226
"I'm sorry for talking business Laurent, but do you have any companies that do work on exosuits? If I could buy a lot of stuff for the helmet it'd speed up construction a lot!"
>>
>>24555226
Copy all of the medical data from her RFID to some storage device we have on us so we can show Theta and get his professional opinion.

"She can do an awful lot of cool things, though Lil'Summer is one of the cutest things she can make.

So, Laurent, could you give me a bit more detail on the sorts of companies under your umbrella? I'm considering your offer and while I may not work for you directly I will probably at least end up licencing designs to you at some point."
>>
>>24555254
How about we just don't offer Theta's magical solution to everything? He's still top secret, anyway.

Also what she's got seems to be working absolutely fine! This isn't a problem that needs solving!
>>
>>24555285
Holy shit, this. If she starts dying, then we do something. But she's fine.
>>
You look over to Laurent, and he was watching Jane as she squeeed and tickled the kitten. "Ooh, Lil'max too!" You say, and a puppy appeared on your own head. You pull him off, and he yipped at you, and rolled onto his back- demanding belly pettings. You gave them to him, and Laurent started chuckling.
Then his personacom beeped, and he got to his feet. "I gotta take this." He said. "Take care, you three!"
"See you, Dad!" Summer said, and he made his way outside and back toward the aircar, slipping on his personacom.

"Well, anyway." Summer said. "I was thinking I'd show Heather around. Is that fine?"
"Oh? Yeah." Jane said. "That's fine with me. Hehehe, so cute~..."
"Alright." She said, and got to her paws. "Come on, Heather."
>>
>>24555319
"Okey dokey cattbutt."
>>
>>24555319
"Sounds good to me Summer."
>>
>>24555285
Pretty much.

We should probably stop using Theta as an automatic 'fix-all-your-problems' button. It's insulting to him and everyone he helps. Decapitated by a time traveller? THETA CAN FIX IT! Got a cold? THETA, GET OVER HERE. 30 years worth of transgenes? HEY THETA, NEED A FAVOUR. etc etc.
>>
>>24555319
<I think you should leave Lil'Summer here. She's got a fan.>

Scratch the tiger's ears as we follow her out.
"That went much better then expected."
"It seemed as thought they would have taken it much worse if you revealed... Well."
>>
>>24555356
>Decapitated by a time traveller?
That one was a pretty valid reason to use Theta.
>>
>>24555356
>Decapitated by a time traveller? THETA CAN FIX IT!

You know, I'm pretty sure Theta wanted to save his dead sibling. That wasn't really a favour to us.
>>
>>24555375
>>24555387
Point still stands.
>>
>>24555412
Not really, we haven't been pimping out Theta's abilities anywhere near as much as you seem to be implying.
>>
>>24555427
Yeah, but he already gently rebuked us for trying to use him to make our love life with Anna more interesting. I don't think we should rely on him as we have been.
Not enough 'friend credits', as it were.
>>
Hey guys, why don't we just - this is gonna be a crazy radical idea here, but bear with me - send Theta a message asking him if he'd be cool with it?
>>
I really think we should be more careful with asking Theta favors.
He might decide to cash them in by using us as his Biokinesis guinea-pig...
>>
>>24555442
Yeah but that's because he doesn't get anything out of Heather dicking Anna. He gets the feelgoods out of helping out Jane.
>>
"Okey dokey, catbutt!"
<I think you should leave Lil'summer here.> You say. <She's got a fan.>
"Of course!" Summer said. "That's another reason I came back. C'mon, humanibutt."

And then the two of you went out into the streets, going wherever Summer's paws took her.

>End of thread! No interviews today, sadly.
>>
>>24555058
well this sounds like a problem for theta.
>>
>>24555458
This is what I was saying before. Somehow people seem to be convinced that we're on the edge of driving Theta to evil with our occasional requests for silly changes.
>>
>>24555461
doesn't he do that anyway?
>>
We could just get summer to ask.
>>
>>24555475
How the fuck is this a "silly change"? We'd be asking him "Hey, my best friend who you're also on real good terms with who can make anything out of thin air? Yeah, her mom is real sick and reliant on implants to live. Would it be too much to ask you to do what you can for her? We'll probably reimburse you in all kinds of awesome ways."

I'm not seeing how this is an unreasonable request. Especially given that he has the option of, y'know, turning it down.
>>
>>24555442
>not enough friend credit
We saved him and his whole family from life as test subjects for an evil corporation.

We have billions in friend credit, he's not going to flip his shit at us for asking if he can cure one of our best friend's mother's genetic disorder.
>>
>>24555522
It's not an unreasonable request, which is why I find it odd that some people are saying we shouldn't ask, because apparently we're driving Theta to the edge with our demands.
>>
>>24555538
>>24555523
>>24555522
>>24555475
>>24555466
Actually, before it was decided that you weren't going to tell Ms. Grayson, what I wrote involved her being mildly offended at the question.
>>
>>24555555
>all those 5's
Fair enough, I guess some people do get very proud about their medical issues.
>>
>>24555555
Yeah, I'm sure sterile women who want kids would just loathe to have people ask them if they want to be cured. Just like the people with polio and the paraplegics get all uppity about getting more freedom of movement.

??????
>>
>>24555555
What? Why?

If someone turned up and told me they could fix all my medical issues right then and there with magic mind bullshit, no strings attached, I know I'd be happy as fuck.
>>
>>24555572
>>24555591
Not exactly, there's more to it, but that's all spoilers.
>>
>>24555591
That's the thing, she's already getting cured. And having the treatment you've already spent 20 years receiving suddenly become superfluous, because MAGIC, would make you feel kinda shitty too, I'd think.
>>
Its probably my paranoia but we should technopahy our way into Laurent's Not!phone and see what the call is about
>>
>>24555737
He's an important, busy man, and Exabyte wanted to move things on.
>>
>>24555737
You're not the only one thinking that. I'd support it, but the thread is over so w/e
>>
>>24555623
It's not spoilers when it's incredibly obvious, Exabutt. Tactless McGee over here just doesn't understand the >implying implications
that her tigerdaughter isn't 'good enough'. Summer isn't 20 and the implants are also part of maintaining her health so Jane has had them pre-adoption and has to keep them for other reasons that fertility.
>>
>>24555737
>>24555757
Don't worry, this is not BFQ. We don't have to be crazy paranoid just to survive.
>>
>>24555781
no but we do have to be crazy paranoid to keep our relationships intact apparently

im pretty sure its my paranoia but with the recent threads discussions about parents in danger it tickled my spidey sense
>>
>>24555781
I just try to plan for the worst.
>>
>>24555781
>He says as Sarvesh teleports a piece of the sun above his head.
LaughingPsions.gif
>>
>>24555781
But this way when everything turns out okay it's a nice surprise.
