Welcome to the sixth episode of A Game of Thrones – The Quest of House Harrock.
Previously: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24475272/
All Previous Threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Harrock

In this quest, the year is 284AL and it is six months after Robert Baratheon was crowned king. You are Lord Artys Harrock, thirty-eight years old and the head of House Harrock, sworn to House Arryn of the Mountain and Vale. You are a dedicated, devoted and cunning man, eager to see the rebirth of your house from its ruined state. With a head for numbers, a good sword-hand and an exotic Valyrian yataghan named 'Ambition,' you shall lead your family to new wealth and new stability.

During the last episode, you arranged for a meeting with House Egen and brought about the end of the month. Developing your military for the coming battle, you founded a company of well-trained and well-armed infantry known as the Woodsmen and created an additional garrison to guard High Harrock. To help fund this you placed a claim on Northmarsh Fields, a swath of fertile farmland at the very North of your territory and highly contested by House Belmore. You spent some time with your family in the quiet before the storm but now the chaos is almost upon you. Loras Egen is coming to visit.

Is anyone interested in continuing?

Westpass. This is your land, your territory, your home. It's a harsh and unforgiving place, sparsely populated by evergreens and hardy shrubs. It's a steep valley filled with sudden falls, treacherous cliffs and unexpected gutters and furrows. Anyone who lives in this part of the Vale of Arryn quickly learns to walk softly and with great care.

Splitting Westpass in half is a great river just as unimaginatively named, the Westflow. Born from a great sheet of water that descends from the mountains, the small stream quickly transforms into a great raging current, with many muddy little rills and brooks contributing to its size. Despite the dangerous pace at which it flows, there are a few safe places where the river can be forded.

Clinging to the mountains on either side of the Westflow, the road for which the region is named winds and bends, a well-worn path of gravel and dirt that it is your duty to protect and maintain. One of the few routes in and out of the Vale, many merchants use the Westpass for their trade routes for a certain fee. To the North, the road leads to Strongsong. To the East, the road leads to Crown Crag.

Finally, there are the great structures of Westpass. The hub of civilisation is High Harrock, a grim and foreboding structure that brings comfort to the inhabitants of the region as the sole provider of protection, boasting an iron mine and great solid stone walls. Then there are the two towers that guard it; Skycliff built amongst the peaks and Wetrock built upon a solid stone foundation beside the Westflow.

But what about the people who live here? There are a few thousand smallfolk scattered throughout the land, in huts and hovels that dot the rocky landscape. It's a hard life but honest life, where they harvest and farm what they can, whenever they can. Some keep herds of hardy mountain goats for their meat and milk, while others farm lettuces, berries and edible ferns.

This is your land and these are your people. Treat them well.

Waking up with the sun after a very pleasant night beside your wife, you go through the morning rituals of cleansing your body and dressing yourself appropriately for the day ahead. For once, the feast hall of High Harrock shall need to be brightly lit and filled with luxury, for you are playing host to your neighbour, Lord Loras Egen. If you plan on marrying his daughter to your son then you need to impress. On the other hand, you need not distract him too much from the matter at hand. The eradication of the Milk Snake clan comes soon.

With the assistance of your uncle you have the servants arrange and clean the tables and ensure that the vast stony hall is not only well-lit but spotless, a hard thing to achieve after the impoverished and destitute times of the past seven months. Eventually the room is made presentable if a little austere and the fragrances of cooking fill the air from the nearby kitchens. Perhaps you should breath life into this grand room more often.

Is there anything specific that you would like to in preparation from Lord Egen's visit, or any unrelated activity you need to attend to before he arrives?
>>
>>24532688
It was a metaphor.
>>
>>24532761
Just make sure everything is in place, this is not a pleasurable visit, we're marching to bitchslap some savages.
>>
>>24532761
Should we have Brock be present at the meeting with Egen, or will he look like too much of a fat retard?

>>
>>24532814
>>24532807
Is it just me or is half of this quest talking about how fat and stupid Brock is?

He's like the anti-waifu.
>>
>>24532761
Do we know of any particular food he likes? Or a certain type of drink he prefers? Having that to offer him would perhaps help to endear him to us?

Also, if we are to ask him for his daughter's hand for Brock, surely we need to make sure Brock is presentable, is at our side, and does all he can to make Lord Egen like him... especially if his son, and first heir, is going to have an accident one day...

We should also have some of our men doing drills as he arrives, to show him their skill, but pass it off as a quiet day for your troops, that they're normally out patrolling and pushing back the Milk Snake menace.
>>
>>24532790
I second this. Maybe we should show some of our newly created military muscle to convince Egen we mean business against the Milk Snakes.
>>
>>24532839
We have a kickass character and he had to have a fat retarded cunt for a son, we're in our right to hate him.
>>
>>24532839
I don't think he's too bad anymore - he's learnt a certain amount of respect for us, and he's made some good contributions in the war council (better than his tutor, at least). He'll be alright as long as we keep working on him.

He can attend, and he can answer if Lord Egen speaks to him. He needs to know what it is to meet another lord, and seeing us will show how to act in such a situation.

We need to mould him into our image, and we best get started, as there's a hell of a lot of him to mould.

You make sure that all of the men are drilled and practising. The garrison of High Harrock is training in courtyard while the castle's marksmen are manning the walls, keeping a lookout for any guests, expected or otherwise. As for your son, while he's allowed to attend the meeting you insist that he keeps his mouth shut unless told otherwise. Don't want the fat child spoiling everything.

After all of the preparations have been made, you wait. The sun rises higher in the sky and eventually, the esteemed lord comes riding up through the gates of High Harrock. A little late perhaps, but you get the feeling that was his intention. The faux-Braavosi lord certainly seems like the sort of man who likes to feel important. Stepping out into the cool Vale air to greet the man yourself, you're offered a slightly nervous smile by Loras as he dismounts.

“Lord Harrock, it is such a pleasure to see you again! I am glad to see that you are in good health – might I introduce you to my master-at-arms, Ser Crowlys? An excellent knight and the man who handles the military affairs of my house.”
This Ser Crowlys offers a curt bow, seeming quite uncomfortable wearing courtier's fashion. You get the impression that the stocky, muscular man is certainly more used to wearing leather and steel than velvet and silk.

You get the impression your neighbour expected a more pleasant and jovial atmosphere. Lord Loras certainly seems a bit put off by all of the bristling metal and soldiers hard at work, while his sworn sword seems to be analysing and admiring the display.

"Perhaps we might head inside, Lord Harrock? I've got quite the chill during my journey."

>>

Ser Crowlys is suitably impressed by our demeanour, I'm sure he'll be mindful of what we say.

I'm scared shitless the faggy lord is going to ask the pants of Brock out of boredom. Oh shit oh shit.
>>
>>24533111
Oh jesus, we allied with the fairy of the kingdom. Goddamit, god fucking dammit. I hope he's better in military affairs and he only takes this as a joke just because they're savages.

Proper greeting and let's direct them to the hall. Get them some beverages and put them out to speed about everything. Let's mention the arrows detail, and keep an eye on them to see if their reaction seems suspicious, yes I'm paranoid still, I can't avoid being paranoid.
>>
>>24533111
"Of course, thank you for coming. There is food waiting in the hall and I would much like to discuss our preparations with you and Ser Crowlys. My own sworn advisors will join us."
>>
>>24533111
The princess lord is going to be miffed if we don't offer him food and drink and put his mind at ease. Send for a servant to fetch the most expensive drink and food we have lying around.
>>
>>24533111
Apologise that things aren't quite as festive as you might have done normally, but given the current military situation, we have obviously been busy dealing with the mountain savages.

Then get them into the hall, get the food and drink flowing, and introduce our family to him, and have a meal, before we get down to business.
>>
>>24533201
Crowlys pretty evidently runs the military side of his house. I'm pretty sure the lord is just sitting on his ass (or cocks) all day long, pretending he's a high lord.

Ser Crowlys is our way into getting anything done, militarily speaking.

You settle down for a pleasant meal – an extravagant one compared to the usual affair. All sorts of meats and cheeses and different foods from throughout the Vale. Hardly a feast but still quite an expense. It's worth it if it leaves a positive impression on your ostentatious neighbour though. Your son is present, as well as your war council – the honourable knights Morys, Tenry, Boros and Lyn, with the new additional Captain Bonaris, commanding officer of the Woodsmen. It seems like Lord Loras cares little for military matters, as the only men he brought with him other than his guard detail are his young son Alber and his knight, Ser Crowlys.

After some small talk and little chatter, eventually the sworn sword of House Egen begins the more serious discussion. His lord seems happy enough to sit back and listen, hiding his bored expression in his goblet.
“Thank you for your hospitality, my lord but I would like to speak about the battle that you're planning. If House Egen is to lend its assistance, then a few basic rules will need be laid out. My militia take orders from me alone and no other. In addition to this, we will contribute no more than four hundred men. We need reserves, in case of an assault on Crown Crag. I hope you find this agreeable, Lord Harrock?”
>>
>>24533288
How many of our own men do we have again? Like 500?
>>
>>24533311
This, need a rundown on our military reports. Total of our troops, and how many did the savages had according to our scouts, 700? more?
>>

>>
>>24533288
Agreeable
>>
>>24533288
Hell yes. That's double our own force. Commence mountain rapings.

Give an offhand compliment about Crowlys' foresight and caution. We wouldn't leave our own holdfasts unprotected either.

100 Green Garrison (High Harrock Guardsmen)
100 Trained Garrison (Skycliff Guardsmen)
100~ Trained Garrison (Wetrock Guardsmen)
100 Trained Infantry (The Woodsmen) (Castle-forged weapons and armour)
100 Trained Archers (Harrock Marksmen)
100 Trained Guerrillas (Tenry's Mountain Rangers)
100 Trained Guerrillas (Boros' Wetland Rangers)
>>
>>24533311
We have 200 Trained Garrison, 100 Green Garrison, 100 Trained Archers, 100 Trained Guerillas (Mountain Rangers), 100 Trained Guerillas (Wetland Rangers), and 100 Green Infantry, I believe it is.

>>24533288
That's fine! Their men, plus ours (leaving our garrisons behind), gives us roughly equal numbers to the savages, and that includes their women, children and old, and if we have the range advantage, we should be able to cut many of them down before they reach our lines.

But yea, we wouldn't expect them to give over command of their own forces to us, and leaving men to guard Crown Crag just makes tactical sense.

I honestly don't think we're going to get a better deal than this.
>>
>>24533344
This. I've got no problems with that, can we get an idea of what kinds of troops he'll be loaning us?
>>
>>24533359
I am extremely cautious about taking just 400 of our men, and the 400 by Lord Fabulous. That's just 800 men, vs 700 clansmen and who knows how many of the mysterious archers.
>>
>>24533359
>>24533385
Ahh, didn't realise they were Trained Infantry. Fuck yea!

So yea, we each then contribute 400 men, which will be equal or more than the clan's warriors, and equal to their entire population, which should do us fine.
>>
Try to convince him to go to 500 hundred
>>
>>24533398
Agreed, how many did Egen have available?
>>
>>24533414
I doubt he'll agree, as we'll only commit 400.
>>
>>24533398
>>24533344
>>24533323
You recall the report that Ser Tenry gave you a while ago.
>Three hundred civilians. Potential combatants, likely inexperienced.
>Three hundred raiders, armed and armoured for quick assaults, not prolonged fights. Some of them seem quite green but most carry themselves well. They probably do most of the hunting.
>A large group of big brutes. Some have castle-forged axes and hammers. Heavy hitters, seem to be well-trained. They guard the chief, old one-eyed bastard with muscles like a bear. Maybe a hundred of them.
>A bunch of slingers. A hundred or so, not very well-armed or very well-trained.

Roughly a hundred of the mountain men died from the night raids you had organised - and in addition, you killed around a hundred raiders.
>>
>>24533427
Oh bollocks, no, we can't go that tight into battle, it's just asking for trouble. Try to leverage some more troops of his part by explaining the mysterious archer fact.
>>
>>24533427
This sounds too good to be true. If we head out in full force, I know we'll be ambushed by our asshole bastard brother. It just sounds entirely too easy.
>>
>>24533459
I suppose, but we can't push it - we need this alliance, and pushing it too hard and too fast will just result in them taking all their soldiers home and leaving us in the shit.

>>24533471
I still think we should put out feelers about at least talking to our brother - he might have turned, but in his eyes, we turned on him, so clearing the air, at least, might be worth it, if it results in one less enemy to worry about.

Plus we could do with the extra military forces he'd bring with him when it comes to the inevitable fight with House Belmore.

He's still our blood, after all.
>>
>>24533501
No, we are not gonna fucking deal with the bastard, you're just adding sharks into the pool.
>>
>>24533418
>>24533414
>>24533424
House Egen has:
>300 Trained Militia (armed with proper weapons)
>200 Green Militia (armed with crude weapons)
>100 Scouts (Forest)

When questioned, Ser Crowlys says that he'll be willing to commit two hundred of his trained militia and the two green men, with the hopes that this battle will provide them with greater experience.

When questioned about the archers, Ser Crowlys is sceptical.
"While I believe that they could know how to use bows, the hill tribes don't have the facilities to craft arrows like those. They don't have the tools or the forges required to shape steel. Either these savages are being sponsored by another lord of the Vale or they looted a company of archers. Perhaps my scouts can survey the area the night before we attack? I'm not willing to risk any more of House Egen's forces on the assault."
>>
>>24533597
>>>24533424
>two hundred green men.
My brain.
>>
>>24533597
Agree with him on scouting ahead. If we're going to go balls out to the enemy, we need intel. Send out rangers of our own too.
>>
>>24533597
Okay we're not getting anymore shit, let's just accept and agree to the scouting.
>>
>>24533597
Sure, have his scouts check it out beforehand. The numbers he promised are good enough.
>>
>>24533530
When he has a military about 2-3 times the size of ours, however, we might not have a choice in the matter, and we won't get help from any other House to deal with that, because it's an internal family issue.

Either way, we're not fighting our bastard brother just yet, we need to focus on the clans.

>>24533597
Urgh... only half his men being trained soldiers, and them all being nothing but militia, is fairly shit. I'd hoped they'd have a decent military, but yea, looks like that's all the men we'll get out of them.

Agree with it, along with the scouts surveying the night before the attack - but they'll go with some of our rangers, and our rangers will be in command, since they know the land better than the Egen scouts.
>>
>>24533653
If you deal with him there's two possible outcomes:
He realizes we're weak and he murders us or he realizes we're weak, uses our proposal as a safe pass for him and his troops beyond our castle walls and murders everyone. Not happening brah.
>>
>>24533653
He probably spends half his wealth on fancy clothes and young boys rather than on his military.
>>
>>24533530
seconding this. Fuck our bastard brother for all eternity
>>
>>24533638
>>24533639
>>24533648
>>24533653
Ser Crowlys and his lord both seem quite amiable to that agreement. Now is the time to discuss strategy.

According to Ser Tenry, the easiest way of accessing the grove that the mountain men call their home is from the North. If we approach it during the day, your army is likely to be spotted the moment it arrives. Alternatively, attacking in the night removes a lot of the advantages that your archers possess although it will allow you to deploy much closer.

In addition, each commander can lead a hundred men for every point of Warfare they have. Who do you want to lead what?

>Ser Morys (Warfare 5)
>Ser Tenry (Warfare 4)
>Ser Boros (Warfare 3)
>Ser Lyn (Warfare 3)
>Lord Artys Harrock (Warfare 3)
>Squire Brock Harrock (Warfare 3)
>>
>>24533821
Ser Tentry should take the rangers and archers. He'll know where to put them in position best and how to use them most effectively.

Ser Morys should handle the brunt of the infantry to coordinate them and keep them working cohesively. Sers Boros, Lyn, ourself and Brock could take whatever's left.
>>
>>24532761

I am still proud of this coat of arms, one of my finest works.
>>
>>24533821
hello OP,
have been waiting for this!
>>
>>24533821
Move out at night. Our burning arrows will light up the night sky,

Morys and Tenry will obviously lead two units. We will lead one ourselves. I'm quite sure Brock could lead a hundred men too, but he's not done being a squire yet, so it's not an option yet and it will piss off the other commanders.. Have him by our side.
>>
>>24533821
Approach during the late night allowing us to get into a decent position and attack at dawn. Best of both worlds.
for numbers I second this >>24533858
>>
>>24533821
Ser Morys need to be in charge of our trained infantry, since they're the center piece of our formation.

Tenry in charge of a guerrilla

Boros in charge of another guerrilla.

We can lead the archers. Also we'll attack during the day, I think having so many ranged troops would be a waste to screw them attacking over-night.
>>
>>24533821
Have Boros lead his Wetland Rangers, and Tenry his Mountain Rangers - have Ser Morys in overall command, as well as leading the archers and we'll command the Woodmen, in the thick of the fight with the men of the Westpass.

Brock isn't coming with us, just in case, and Ser Lyn and our uncle will stay back with him. This is our fight, not Lyn's.

>>24533906
I was thinking... could we approach during the night, when we can't be spotted, and attack at the first light of dawn? We will catch most of them in their beds, where our fire arrows will make quick work of them, and give us the benefit of our three-hundred archers and rangers.
>>
>>24533949
Excellent idea. Attack at dawn after taking the most advantageous position late at night/very early in the morning while it's still dark.
>>
>>24533821
We should think about Brock leading a hundred men think of the experience to he could gain from it. Even if it's a simple safe job
>>
>>24533932
Oh wait a 100 troops per warfare, that's stupid then. Have Morys in charge of infantry+archers. The rest stays the same since we're gonna split the guerrillas and shove them in their rear when they're attracted by our infantry+archers.
>>
>>24533906
Ohh... potentially, could Boros command the two units of Rangers, and Tenry stays behind with Brock - if we fall, Brock will need a loyal sworn sword at his side, and as loyal as Boros has shown himself to be, Tenry is of the Vale and Mountain, his blood is from these very rocks.
>>
>>24533977
better yet if it's not a safe job we lose an incompetent heir. It's a win win
>>
>>24533977
Or we could kill him in that assignment. It's cool.
>>
>>24533949
Wasn't Lyn given to us by Lord Aryn to help us beat the mountain clans how is the not his fight? This is the exact definition of his fight.
>>
>>24533997
It'd be a win-win if we fucked our way into another heir.
>>
>>24533977
>>24533997
You might not like him, but Brock is still our heir, and we need to ensure that our line, and the stability of the Westpass, continues if we fall. We can't risk him in battle.
>>
>>24533997
I can see it now.

>D-did I do you proud, Art-... f-father..?
>>
>>24534026
we have a daughter and a wife with which to make more sons. It wouldn't be the end of the world if he died. And if he doesn't he gets to love us more because we are giving him responsibility and all that
>>
>>24534026
We have to risk him in battle. He NEEDS to prove himself, to us, to his dickass knight, to himself. He needs a chance to shine and to prove to everyone that he is worthy of being our heir.

He fights from the front, same as us.
>>
>>24534026
Where would the Lanisters be if Twyin didn't risk himself in battle against house Reyne? Heirs fight in battle all the time plus he's even good at it.
>>
>>24534049
But if we're ambushed by the force using the arrows, we could die, if the Seven will it so, and if Brock is with us, he'll die too, and we can't leave all our lands in the hands of a girl who isn't even of age yet, who will in time marry, and House Harrock will cease to be.

>>24534074
Fine - if he fights, however, it is next to us, by our side, with us, as his father, showing him how a true war is fought.

He should stand with us, leading the Woodsmen infantry, in the thick of the fighting.
>>
>>24534085

Agree.

Ser Tenry leads:
>Mountain Rangers.
Ser Boros leads:
>Wetland Rangers
Ser Morys leads:
>Harrock Marksmen
Lord Artys Harrock leads:
>The Woodsmen

Most of your men seem satisfied with this situation and Ser Crowlys also finds it appropriate - one man should not carry an entire army on his shoulders, otherwise his death might throw everything into disarray.
Ser Lyn interrupts, as he would like the honour of leading the Woodsmen.
Your son remains silent, if uncomfortably so.
>>
>>24534129
Ser Lyn will accompany Brock and us personally. Feed him lines about how the safety of our house is in his hands. We want a strong willed, trained knight at our side in the heat of battle, a man we can trust with our lives.
>>
>>24534129
I'm fine with Ser Lyn leading the Woodsmen so long as their Captain consents to it and they can work together.

Unfortunately, Captain Bonaris disagrees. The Tyroshi mercenary captain that you hired to handle the training of the Woodsmen insists that you are his employer, rather than Ser Lyn. He shan't allow the knight to lead the Woodsmen; it's either you or him.

Of course, the scenario's ultimately in your hands. Your neighbours watch and listen with relative interest as you resolve this internal conflict.
>>
>>24534169
>>24534164
Sounds good to me - Ser Lyn can have command, I guess, as long as he still defers to us, and both Brock and ourselves will join him with the Woodsmen.

Couldn't we do with leaving one of our men behind to ensure the safety of our family, though? I know it is harsh that they'd miss the battle, but they must surely know how much faith and trust we'd put in them by putting our family in their hands.
>>
>>24534318
I told you faggots, Lyn will be our bodyguard, in the thick of battle, but you kids wouldn't listen. Now the captain is all buttfrustrate.
>>
>>24534318
Oh, in that case, we're in command, Lyn is by Brock's side. Tough shit for him.
>>

The captain is in our employ and give charge of our unit to whoever we like. If he refuses to listen tell him to get fucked. Lyn can handle the troops for this battle and then we can find another captain later.

Crap. Hmm. How about this: Lyn will accompany us as a bodyguard and shield for Brock. Naturally we'll throw him into the thick of the combat.

Quietly fuming, Ser Lyn gives into your final decision - you shall lead the Woodsmen and he shall accompany you as a guard, with ample opportunity to cut through the unwashed masses of the mountain men. He seems to be comfortable with at least.
Quietly butting in at the end, Brock announces that he would like to join you and the honourable knight in the thick of battle.

Now there's the matter of formation. Although you don't have a map, how would you like to arrange the units? You don't have a map (yet) so just offer a vague idea of how you'd like it all organised.

Ser Morys suggests that the peasant levies are at the front with the Woodsmen to lead them, with the guerrillas and archers as support.
Ser Tenry suggests that the guerrillas swing about to assault the mountain men from either side and perhaps cut off the retreat - although this would leave the rangers vulnerable to attack.
Ser Boros suggests putting the peasant levies at the front while the infantry holds back to deal with the mystery archers - but this idea doesn't amuse Ser Crowlys at all.
Ser Lyn agrees with Ser Morys, although his focus is on a straight-forward charge above anything else. Overwhelm the mountain men and cut them all down.

The history of the Woodsmen:

>
A few weeks ago when you began to build a new fighting force, you bought a few mercenary captains at a generous price from your distant neighbour, Lord Palfrey Badics. These officers would train your men, but these soldiers would come from many backgrounds. Some are the disgruntled soldiers from Erenford to the West, who once worked for a riverlord no longer able to pay them. A handful of them are hedge knights and sell swords, eager to put their skills to use. But most of them are your own boys, native to Westpass. Hunters and trappers and even a handful of smugglers sick of being trodden on by hillfolk, they gladly accepted the training of the mercenary captains and began their transformation into a strong fighting force. No matter their background, they're all brothers in arms now, each one wearing a shirt of heavy mail and a set of boiled leather armour, each one carrying an arming sword and a hefty poleaxe. Led Captain Bonaris, these soldiers call themselves the Woodsmen.
>>
>>24534548
Let him
>>
>>24534548
One guerrilla in one flank, another guerrilla in another flank, main flank with our archers and infantry. We bait them with our archers+infantry+Egen forces and then enclose their flanks with our guerrillas. I think that sounds reasonable.
>>
>>24534548
Go with Lyn's idea. It will ease his temper too.
>>
>>24534548
Agree with Lyn
>>
>>24534548

I have to agree with Ser Lyn if we can hit the mountain men before they can even organize themselves we will break them and turn the battle into a slaughterer in our favor.
>>
>>24534548
Charge we have about a hundred more people who are better equipped. Plus mountain men are more use to small skirmishes than an actual battle.
>>
>>24534634

Also we have more than enough scouts and rangers to screen the advance of the main force. Leave the mountain men blind and deaf to our advance and they will not stand a chance once the battle starts.
>>
Lyn. But we must use flaming arrows, because shit's on fire yo. Plus it'll be more effective against leather armor than regular arrows.
>>
>>24534696

>>
>>24534729
If we catch them still in their huts, then yes, to cause panic. Otherwise, no, as they'll get more shots off without having to set them on fire.

I still think the Rangers should flank them, though - give the impression that we're all around them, and then, after the initial charge, they hit the clan's flanks.

>>24534761
Nope, they're trained now, after their drilling and their participation in the fight at Wetrock.

>>
>>24534797

>>
>>24534868
it will most likely break their greener troops too.

You decide to hold back on the fire arrows for now.

So, the general plan is as follows:
>Arrive during the night, attack with the dawn.
>Ser Tenry in charge of mountain rangers, Ser Boros in charge of wetland rangers, Ser Morys in charge of Harrock marksmen, Lord Artys in charge of the woodsmen and Ser Crowlys in charge of the militia.
>Keep the archers behind the infantry, rangers effectively function as archers. Militia and infantry go on a direct charge to overwhelm the foe. The marksmen fire standard arrow on any enemies not engaged in the melee.

Agreed? If so, we shall end the planning phase and make our preparations for the assault.
>>
>>24534934
It's go time.
>>
>>24534922
Cheers - just a shame it took me a minute or so too long for it to matter.
>>
>>24534868
Right but their homes are in a forest right. First a home catches then all the tinder on the ground then all the trees in the area. Then we have to retreat because a fire can double it's size in no time at all. If we were besieging a town yea but it's not like they're hiding behind a wall our infantry can't fight in fire better than theirs.
>>
>>24534934
Agreed
>>
>>24534934

>>
>>24534934

The guests leave after their farewells. Lord Egen even leaves you with a showcat pelt, skinned from the very beast that Ser Tenry killed during your hunt with him. It's up to you what you want done with it - but that's something for a later date.
A day passes and the scouts of Ser Crowlys examine the grove that the mountain men call their home, during the night. They were unspotted but at the same time, they caught no glimpse of the mysterious archers that attacked your rangers.
Finally, the fateful night comes and you give your wife that passionate farewell kiss you thought so frequently about. There's actually a real thrill passing through your body and your mind as you go through with this. It will be your first true battle. You were always a bookworm, you barely ever left High Harrock before recently. The treachery of your brother has certainly called for some drastic measures.

Waiting in the mountains with your men throughout the night, the time eventually comes for the assault. You slowly move your men into position - it seems like the savages have gotten soft, with only a handful of lookouts. You can see them but can they see you? Almost a thousand men, each armed with shining steel waiting for the rising sun? Surely someone has to see that.

Not quite the dawn surprise attack that you were hoping for. You hear a sudden scream from one of the lookouts as they point in the direction of one of the militia companies. Men and women in their dozens start to wail and shout throughout the camp as their soldiers spring to life. It's time to act, now or never. Wipe the bastards from your land and never see them again.

This is the default map, along with the basic rules.

Allow me to do a lot of the rolling in private, so I don't clog up the quests. You have to wait in anticipation and see what happens. But when it comes to the infantry that you are in direct control of, you do want to move them forward yes?

While you urge the Woodsmen onwards, the archers and both of the ranger companies immediately open fire, aiming at the grizzled veterans that gradually begin their slog out of the woodlands. Unfortunately your prized archers miss and only the rangers manage to hit, Tenry's mountaineers doing the most damage of bunch. A handful of the savages slump while the rest move forward. As for the militia, they remain in formation and Ser Crowlys manages to keep them following you in perfect, precise order.

The opposing slingers aim a volley at Tenry's men but fortunately miss their shot. However, you have moved just into range of the grizzled veterans. The savages with the looted weapons of great and grand proportions smash into the front of the Woodsmen only to almost bounce away, doing minimal damage against the castle-forged mail that they wear. However, the other raiders begin their march forward while the savage 'civilians' begin to pack their supplies.

It's up to you what to do with the Woodsmen next. Would you like to retreat from this melee so that the archers can fire or would you rather attack? Do you shout any orders to your allies?

Ambition tastes the blood of one raider and then another as the poleaxes swing down on the savage bastards, with Brock beside you turning a one-eyed giant's face into a crater using a ball and chain and Ser Lyn cleanly beheading another. For a brief moment the savages waver before they respond in kind, hammers and axes tearing down a handful of your soldiers. Not wound as many of you as you wounded them though.

Ser Morys and Ser Boros focus their bowmen on the inexperienced savages off to the side, with the marksmen causing them to scatter and the the rangers picking off the few survivors in a clean blow. Even Ser Tenry's men take down many a mountain man on their flank. Unfortunately, they suffer a nasty hit from the slingers, almost halving their numbers under a rain of deadly accurate stones.

And Ser Crowlys moves his peasants in from the sides, letting the militia swarm in on the savages. Unfortunately only the well-armed ones seem to do any damage - farming tools just seem to break and splinter against the heavy hides that the raiders wear. Away from all of the combat, the civilians have finished their packing and are preparing to flee.

You can choose to focus your attention on either the veteran or trained raiders or you could try to pull back - again, you can try to shout orders to your own men and see if they can take at all. Ser Tenry and his lot don't seem to be doing very well - apparently those slingers are talented shots.

Oh, and good rolls chaps.

It's only when you're in the midst of battle that you think "Wait a second, maybe we should have set up a system to actually give reliable orders in the middle of the battle".

Funny that!

It doesn't take much encouragement - after a brief yell, Ser Tenry and his men pull away and shrink back into the wilderness, out of range of the slingers. It doesn't take much more effort to slaughter the veterans, just one last surge of pole-axes and the varied weapons of you, Brock and Lyn. Even as the last savages begin to fall, you can hear their leader screaming orders - only for Brock to drop his shield and smash his fist into the side of the man's head, cleanly knocking him out. Crouching beside him, the lad grabs a set of rope from his belt and begins to bind the unconscious mountain man once he's sure there's no one left to attack him.

Unfortunately, the peasants guarding your flank have been obliterated by the raiders - but the loss of their leader has left them confused and uncertain, in the midst of your forces. Ser Crowlys yells for one portion of his forces to chase down the peasants and the slingers - who have also decided to flee - while his own company engage with the trained raiders. Ser Boros and Ser Morys have also given chase, trying to move into a more appropriate position to fire upon the foe.

Do you wish to withdraw, give chase or focus on the last surviving group of raiders? Any last commands you wish to try and shout to the others?
>>
>>24536675

>>
>>24536675

>>
>>24536675
Obliterate the raiders, leave none alive. Make them rue the day they made enemies of the House of Harrock.

Have Ser Lyn assist Brock in taking the chief to safety, perhaps back towards where Tenry went - he will be dragged back to High Harrock in chains, and not even given the dignity of a clean death. He will be made an example of.

Have Morys and Boros give chase, and slaughter the peasants to the last.

That's enough to secure a hit - barely. But not enough to eliminate the raiders. They're hardy bastards and they're focused on butchering the militia. Despite how well-armed they are, these peasants are no match for the ruthless mountain men who spend most of their lives raiding and their numbers are easily reduced to a third of what they were when the battle began. You even catch a glimpse of an ugly crone of a woman stunning Ser Crowlys with some sort of crude cudgel. You'll need to perform the killing blow on these savages, before they eliminate your ally.

Many of the slingers are taken down with shots from Ser Boros and his men but it's not enough to take them down, especially as they begin to flee into the mountains and clamber through the rocks. If they escape into the Mountains of the Moon, the bastards will be impossible to find and the Milk Snake threat will likely begin anew, a few years from now, perhaps even a decade.

You mean knowledge of manners? One of the biggest parts of courtly education?

Something we have neglected to help with for fifteen years.

Regardless of how much he will struggle, the boy needs at least a basic understanding of stewardship. We are already planning on teaching our daughter this stuff, we can get them lessons together, it will (probably) be a good bonding experience.

And when the bitch leans in for the killing blow, she's disemboweled with a single sweep from Lady Forlorn, the Valyrian blade that Ser Lyn carries. You can deny that the man is a skilled swordsman, able to slice through whatever he wishes. A skilled and fine man, compared to the brute force and stupidity of your sun. Then again, who was the one that captured the leader of the clansmen?

After this, the battle draws off to a close. The archers and rangers gradually pick off the slingers as they try to make their way up into the mountains, only for the civilians to be out of range when they turn their attention to them. The peasants try to give chase but stop at the foot of the mountain, each one knowing how foolish it would be to fight the hill tribes on their own terms - even if they're just the sick, the young, the wounded and the women. Nonetheless, Ser Boros and his men give chase to try and hunt them down while Ser Morys and his men return to your side to recover and re-cooperate. The battle has drawn to a close and victory is yours. You have your men ransack what little that was left behind, for any useful information or loot.

YOU HAVE KILLED:
>100~ Veteran Raiders
>100~ Trained Raiders
>100~ Green Raiders
>100~ Green Slingers
>50~ Civilians

YOUR CASUALTIES:
>15~ Woodsmen
>40~ Mountain Rangers

HOUSE EGEN'S CASUALTIES:
>20~ Trained Militiamen
>70~ Green Militiamen

YOU GAIN
>3 Influence
>7 Law
>2 Wealth

Now that the battle's over, what do you wish to do? Some of the Milk Snakes have disappeared into the wilderness but so has Ser Boros to deal with them - he'll likely report back later in the day.

Make sure Crowlys is OK. Break out some beer for the men.

Possibly think about constructing some sort of small fortified ranger post nothing major, but a few heavy log cabins and a palisade would be a great staging point for any future anti-mountain clan expeditions, as well as denying them their prime base of operations.
>>
>>24537318
Have the men search the bodies and the huts, we want to get any information we can from this. Then put it all to the torch, burn it all, and let the crows have the corpses of the clansmen dead, hanging from the trees.

We shall take the leader and his lieutenants (any that live) back to High Harrock in chains, where our men will have their way with them until they tell us all they know, and then they shall be hung from our tower, not even given the honour of a clean execution.

This was a hard fought-for victory, my friends - though it might seem harsh, at least most of the losses were taken by Egen, but then that teaches them to only send peasants to do a soldier's job.

The mood is a somber one. Many men are performing crude last rights for the men who died in the fighting and many others are drinking themselves into oblivion. Others busy themselves doing actual work, hanging the corpses from trees and torching the huts of the clansmen that once lived in the grove. Once everything has been looted and all of the dead and injured are ready to be carried off, you commend your men - including your son Brock for his achievements. He managed to subdue to their leader, even if he did it in a foolhardy and risky way. If he keeps that up, the sorry lad will get himself killed.

Ser Crowlys and his men head back to to their own land with a dark silence ruling over them. Although he is thankful that his life was savaged, he regrets how many men died and that's clear on his face. Sorrow is written into his features as he goes. As for your method of hanging the dead from the trees, it gets quite a few uncertain murmurs from the men. It's a grim and unsettling sight, the entire glade filled with dangling carcasses. You gladly march out, leaving behind the ugly remenants of the battle.

>For this crude and almost barbaric warning you've left behind, you gain 2 Law but -1 Influence, to represent a handful of rumours circulating about your cruel, strange ways.

Returning home, Ser Morys and Ser Tenry comfort each other over several bottle of wine, doing their best to drink away the memories of the men that they lost. However, you have a prisoner to that. An elderly, stubble-covered clansman almost as broad as Brock and half a foot taller. Half of his face is swollen but it seems like he was injured before your boy landed the flow - he's got several missing fingers freshly sliced off and an arrowhead buried deep in his shoulder. Couldn't have been that difficult to subdue him after all.

What would you like to ask him?
>>
>>24537576
In addition to this, you take as many of your own dead as you can identify back home for burials - Ser Crowlys takes along as many as his men can carry. Almost half of the force that he had brought alone has died, after all.
>>
>>24537616
Talk about his injuries, we wanna know where he got them.
>>
>>24537616
Could we send some men with Ser Crowlys to help tend to his dead and take them home? It feels like we owe him that.

Let's ask the leader where he came from before his clan entered our lands and why they invaded.
>>
>>24537616
>For this crude and almost barbaric warning you've left behind, you gain 2 Law but -1 Influence, to represent a handful of rumours circulating about your cruel, strange ways.

That's because House Egen knows nothing of how you deal with these mountain scum. If they had suffered the same hardships as us, they would be doing the same, and worse besides.

>What would you like to ask him?

Where did he get those injuries, and who gave them to him? Why has he been harrying us for so long, rather than moving to greener pastures? We know they are semi-nomadic, surely they would have moved to where they could get better loot, rather than staying in the mountains where the pickings are often scarce.
>>
>>24537616

Putting the fool's ranting and raving behind you, you demand that he's kept in the deepest and darkest cell beneath the castle where you'll never have to see him again. And if there isn't a cell that deep, that one is made for the sorry clansman scum. He's dragged away kicking and flailing and screaming, almost breaking free of his captors' grasps several times - but nothing that a bit of blunt trauma to his skull doesn't prevent.

Taking the opportunity to sit back and relax with nothing to bother or disturb you, you relax for a moment and let your muscles unwind after the battle. In fact, you dare say that you're exhausted. What do you want to do for the rest of the day? It's only the morning - after all, the attack started in the night.

Seconded also go tell are daughter extremely romanticized stories from the battle about her father and brother taking down the savage tribesman together.

Also before we start getting into it with house Belmore release whats his name as long as he makes a new tribe and pesters them
>>
>>24538137
Fair point, and it means he doesn't even have the honour of joining his ancestors in whatever afterlife scum like him believe in.

>>24538140
> next time we go to war with clansmen we drag his emaciated, bedraggled pitiful shell along as a warning/demoralization.

That's twisted, anon... I approve entirely. Seeing one of their own reduced to such a state could sow terror among their ranks.
>>
>>24538168
There's no point in lying to her. If she asks, tell her the truth. Otherwise, leave it be, our sweet daughter shouldn't hear such things.
>>
I seriously wonder what the fuck are we going to do spending time with our men. Give them a permit or something, but don't spend the whole day with our men, we need some time for ourselves, and after this fucking victory we sure as hell deserve it.
>>
>>24538168
Nah he hates us more than the Belmores because we destroyed his clan and tortured him. I struggle to believe he wouldn't turn on us.
>>
>>24538195
I second this. We shouldn't shield her from the harsh realities of the world, but neither should we force them upon her if she doesn't ask.
>>

She's a kid goddamit, she shouldn't have to hear that crap until she's older.

"We will be cruel to the clansmen, and through our cruelty they will know who we are. And they will find the evidence of our cruelty in the disemboweled, dismembered, and disfigured bodies of their brothers we leave behind us. And the barbarian won't not be able to help themselves but to imagine the cruelty their brothers endured at our hands, and our boot heels, and the edge of our knives. And the barbarian will be sickened by us, and the barbarian will talk about us, and the barbarian will fear us. And when the barbarian closes their eyes at night and they're tortured by their subconscious for the evil they have done, it will be with thoughts of us they are tortured with.

Sound good?"

I agree, we also should express regret at his losses but assure him that our men will be at his disposal as per the treaty agreement. If he learns to rely on us militarily that is just more leverage we have on him.

Cheers, I just thought it really fit the situation.

So, is Aldo Raine Boros, or Tenry? He makes a decent looking ranger-knight.

Also, I took the liberty to do the archive now, and I'll update it once we're done for the night too. If you could vote for it, and vote for any of the parts you haven't voted for previously, that'd be awesome.

First of all, a bath. Then your men. Old man Morys is drunk out of his brain and Tenry is numbed by milk of the poppy - his kneecap was shattered by a shot from a slinger but according to him, he insisted that Maester Llelewyn would handle the rest of his men first - their injuries matter far more than his own. Many a death dirge and a sad ballad is sung, with few men good at singing. Victory isn't something to be celebrated in High Harrock; not unless it's perfect. Every loss is to be mourned, every mistake treated with regret. It's a place of sorrow and duty but the men drown that way of thought with alcohol and other things. Ser Boros eventually arrives as well, with several scalps dangling from his belt and a scowl on his face. He doesn't get all of them - many of the savages disappeared into the wilderness without a trace.

Next, your children. You allow Brock the chance to drink with the other men and even a day off of his practice and training, for all of the good work that he's done. It's been a long and exhausting night and he deserves a break however short it is. The words between you are short and he's not as thankful as you like. Then again, you never were fond of over-enthusiasm. After a brief conversation you part and make your way to where your daughter is being taught by your wife, sharing the tales of your battle with the others. You make the event seem a little cleaner than what it really was - no need to describe what you did with the corpses, no need to tell Little Katrin about the hideous mountain man locked beneath the castle. Although you miss out some truths, you are certainly not to tell any lies. Children must learn everything eventually.
>>
>>24538500

As the day drags on, you eventually get a little bit of alone time with your wife. She insists on tending to your injuries; she has some training when it come to cleaning and patching wounds. Nothing compared to Maester Llelewn but still quite skilled. You share the truth with her and tell her everything and she thinks no less of you for it. Deyya is simply glad that you returned home safe and that you brought Brock with you. After sharing your affection with one another in privacy, you take the moment to reflect on the future. This is a milestone, of sorts. One of the greatest threats in your land has been eliminated. The Milk Snakes are gone, at least for now. There will still be the occasional bandit or mountain man but unless new savages move into your territory, Westpass shall be a safe place to live.

What is there to do next, now that this mess has been said and done? What are your goals for the future and what plans do you want to lay out? The immediate threat has been eliminated but you still haven't earned wealth or true security for your family. What comes next?
>>
>>24538493
That was my thought - he fits that better than a more tanned man from the West.
>>
>>24538454
Thanks, again.

And thanks for the archive, already voted.

>>24538493

Agreed. To me Boros is a little younger.
>>
>>24538512
Well, don't that other house have a port that we used to own? I say we should focus on building up our wealth and trying to (subtly) regain some of our lost territory. But keep up ranger patrols to track the Milk Snakes, watch for other clans, and try and find those damn archers.
>>
>>24538512
After this we should really work our lands a lot. We're probably in the shitter wealth-wise. Maybe start farming those lands we acquired in the previous thread.

Long term? Preparing to press our claims.
>>
>>24538512
We need to secure economic security for our House, and for that, we need to build up our economic base - perhaps build another mine, or get another artisan to join us, or try to get territory near the river for us to build a port.

Or we should try to show up Belmore, in order to claim their port off them.
>>
>>24538512
what's the status of our land's and production? where does our iron go? with the milk snakes gone it might be a good idea to start some trade routes, maybe a small trading fleet on the river
>>
>>24538611
We don't have a port at the moment to have a trade fleet at - we either need to spread our territory to the river and build one ourselves, or try to get Belmore's port off them, since it's really ours by right.

How hard would it be to start to develop a town, or some more mines?
>>
>>24538611
>>24538600
>>24538582
Seconded. Weren't we trained as the steward? This should be right up our alley.
>>
>>24538611
I second these questions and the proposal to start farming our new lands.

I think an overview of our House's finances ad options is needed.
>>
>>24538512
I feel like it would do us good to raise Sers Tenry and Morys as landed knights as thanks for their good service. Give them some lands (maybe based around Wetrock and Skycliff) to settle as permanent estates for harvesting crops and lumber. They'd be effectively our own minor bannermen. Without the Milk Snakes they'll be able to develop the land relatively peacefully and make a nice buffer zone for anyone invading our lands. This could also attract travelers to settle here, increasing our population, economy, and influence. It would also give our smallfolk a more stable place to live.
>>
Next thread we should buy some goats for economic prosperity
>>
>>24538670
And after that cunning level up we should be able to get some juicy house-rolls.
>>
>>24538512

What's our current stats? We will eventually need to get a bit more of an economic machine rolling in order to elevate our house from its current dregs.

Also, we should look into building our military even more. While costly in the short term, having a reliable and loyal force of warriors patrolling the western border is sure to win us points with The Eyrie, and we can let neighboring lords hire out our services to harry mountain clans and brigands wherever they are found-at a good price of course.

I know we are getting a little scarce with space to house our soldiers, but I suggested earlier building a small outpost for our mountain rangers in the Milk Snake grove.

.>>24538316
>>24538140
>>24537054

Guess I should start putting on a trip.
>>
>>24538074

Yes, hang; but hang him high where everyone who uses the pass can see him with the word raider hanging with him. We can make hanging our thing.
>>
>>24538691
And trip fail.
>>
>>24538677
Giving our loyal knights some land of their own seems like an excellent idea, though I'm not sure if Ser Tenry is really the 'lord' type.

I think Ser Morys should be given the old Milk Snake land, it is virgin territory and ready for the advancing wave of civilization.
>>
>>24538743
BUt there are hanging bodies everywhere...
>>
>>24538571
Ah yes, Grimarbour. The island that sits squarely in the middle of the Westflow before it joins with the Virgin River to the North. It was stolen from your house due to the ineptitude of your grandfather, now belonging to House Belmore. You can press this claim through military might or through political clout; you're currently lacking in both. Eliminating a mountain clan and taking on one of the more prosperous noble houses in the Mountain and Vale are two entirely different things.
>>24538611
>>24538653
You trade iron with the Egens, the Erenfords, the Terricks and the Freys, the last of whom get their resources from many sources in exchange for the vast amount of crops that their land produces. They're hardly the best deals - but when you made them, you weren't in a position to negotiate anything better.

So, now that the military issue has been confronted you wish to turn your attention to the economic issue, as well as the issue of your knights - some of them do deserve to be landed, after all.

We will begin this next episode however. It'll be a brand new day, with the Milksnake mess behind you. With the aid of your uncle, you'll bring this house to glory.

Thanks to everyone who participated! Come back on Friday, 9PM GMT! Feel free to continue to discuss options or ask questions.
>>
>>24538743
I think we should assess how much land we have before we start giving it away. while our loyal knights have earned a reward, granting them swathes of land is way too much, maybe their own farmstead for now, with the possibility of lordship in the years to come.
>>
>>24538743
I was thinking this would be an opportunity for Ser Tenry to recover from his injury while still contributing positively to our House.
>>24538767
That could be a colorful name for the place - Crow's Keepings. I don't like that it's so close to the mountains though.
>>
We don't have enough resources to make banner-men. Next day invite the captains and make a toast and personally thank each and every single one of them.

A Hamlet would be 10 land, a small town 20.

Mines are 10 wealth, though if I can find Princely's pastebin there are a number of upgrades we can do to our own mine.

Does anyone need the ASOIAF RPG book?
>>
>>24538811
Didn't we gain a land or two when we expanded into the meadow?
>>
>>24538677
That could be a good idea, as it'll make them fairly happy. What about Boros, though? And we kinda need the land too.

>>24538811
Cheers Plasma! Brilliant session as always!

I would, then, suggest we renegotiate our iron trade agreements if possible, since we're now in a slightly better position.

Otherwise, we need to get the money to build more farms or mines, so as to either decrease our outgoings, or increase what we can sell.

Hiring some merchants might be good, if we can spread our iron further afield.

>>24538825
Crow's Keepings (with, if we build a tower there, Crow's Keep) works very well, I think.

>>24538916
Upgrading our mine might be worth it then.
>>
>>24538965
Claiming Northmarsh Fields gave you plenty of fertile farmland up in the North of your territory. However, you spent most of the benefits that you got from that on your military - so the small population and wealth boost that came with it didn't do much. Still, it's a piece of land you can offer to a knight - something for them to maintain and watch over.
>>
>>24538984
upgrade the mine and maybe hire a few smiths? if we can develop a good base of smiths we can have our own iron go straight into our own forges. it would help our military and if we develop enough of a reputation for forged goods we could and cut out the middleman and sell the finished product.
>>
>>24539052
Well, the smiths would be artisans with the appropriate specialty - if we had one that made all our weapons into castle-forged versions, that would help our forces, and if we got one with the specialty that increases the modifier for our House Fortune roll, I guess we could fluff that as being better quality iron/weapons being exported.
>>
>>24538811
Thanks for the excellent session and quest Plasma. You rock.

>>24538984
The upgrades were expensive as well but greatly boosted mine production if I remember correctly. I know House Bourdain became one of the biggest iron producers in the area.

Making a banner house costs 20 Influence but I agree that it is something we should look to in the future.
>>
>>24539128
It depends - do we want to save our influence for making banner-houses, or save it to get Grimarbour through political dealings, or use it to get a second-born son at some point?
>>
>>24539119
sure, I have no idea how the mechanics work in this game.
>>
So about how much time has passed in the quest thus far?
Just like a month or so?
>>
>>24539255
A month and a half, I think, give or take a week.
>>
Even if we do have a second son, I don't see any reason to get rid of Brock, quite the contrary really.

Like wasn't our uncle blathering on about how House Harrock has traditionally been ruled by brothers or whatever?
>>
>>24539200
Ah, you guys were just talking about making them landed, not banner houses. My bad. I say we save it, it's one of our best stats.

I still say we should look to hiring out some of our forces to some of the smaller houses around, gain a rep as mountain men hunters, get our troops experience, get some gold in our coffers.

Win. Win. Win.

If Plasma allows it, PrincelyDM's list of upgrades(used in Karban and Bourdain quests) can be found at: http://pastebin.com/46BLMQ3M
>>
>>24539296
Yep, that's how it's traditionally been done. Our idea was that, if we had a son, he would be the brains to Brock's brawn.

>>24539298
Hiring out our forces could work, but it'd take a while for us to get a decent amount of money, and there's no saying when the mysterious attackers will strike again.
>>
>>24539447

Even one or two wealth a month, when added to (hopefully positive) House Fortune outcomes would help vault our wealth up so that we can use it to buy upgrades and increase our other stats. It might also boost our influence in the region: House Harrock, Sword of The Eyrie, Guardians of the Wesmounts! Has a nice ring to it.

We don't even need to use them all, one unit of trained rangers and infantry would be a significant addition to most of the less powerful houses-e.g. the pitiful state of House Egen military.

captcha: flexesh redoubt Why yes we did flex our muscles and turn the westpass into a veritable redoubt.
