"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! LIVE FROM HAFENSTAD, I GIVE YOU MISSSSTER RAAAAAAAAADIO!"

"Ninety minutes folks, that's how long it took Dame Chobam to go all the way around the world. Yes sir ladies and gents, The Crimson count may be the fastest man on earth, but yesterday there was an even faster woman up in space. Her highness's Royal Rocket Corps has done it again.
These are exciting times listeners, Between this and the Suthlander's satellites, who knows what's going to happen next. But rest assured, I, Your very own Mister Radio, will have the story, so stay tuned..."

You are Princess Lydia Tannhäuser Von Cygnus Gates the third, duchess of Tannhäuser and executive director of the Royal Rocketry Corps of Midland. It is now the summer Solstice and you are celebrating the successful return of your first Void Knight, while drawing up plans for your next rocket, the Mk4c Cherubim.

The press are Clamoring for interviews with you and Dame Cobham. How shall you spend the solstice?
>Grant the press an interview
>See what plans Colonel Smith and the Computational staff have.

>>
>>24482223
Doing four different things at once is quite difficult.
>>
>>24482260
Alright.
Grant the Press Interview, and see what Colonel Smith is up to.

I'll get started on the budget.
>>
>>24482297
I agree with the interview and the talk with Colonel Smith, but:

>Your per-turn Budget is spent
>>
>>24482334
>>24482297
It was spent last night inventing the type C.

However you can always plan for future turns.
>>
It turns out, Mister Radio has been arranging something with Ms Kenaway to use her satellites to stage a 3 way intercontinental conference call.
If she can get a second one up, it could last for a whole 30 minutes! And everyone will be able to attend from the comfort of there own homes, how novel.
>>
>>24482334
I meant for next turn.

With a budget of 38RP, we can improve the Mk4c with 24RP to 6/11.
We can then also spend 9RP to Invent the Advanced Guidance Module "Mustang" (underped advanced guidance modules count as Mass 3 during invention and development, but are actually Mass 0 when installed in a capsule).
Spend 4RP on Photovoltaic Power Cells to 3/7.
1RP to train Harker on Engineering.
>>
>>24482422

The Suthlanders are focusing on practical uses of the satellites. I know we want to reach the moon ASAP, but maybe we should build something immediatly useful too.
>>
>>24482456
It turns out, the computational staff have actually been working on something like that. They think it's possible to build an Automatic Computer that uses a series of vacuum tubes as switches. This machine would be able to do simple math and make decisions based on binary logic.

They just need funding to make it happen.
>>
>>24482485
We're developing photovoltaic and radio-reactive power cells, which can be introduced to the civilian market after development.
Also, we can build a geo-recon satellite to take photos from orbit, but it requires developing Thrusters, either power source, Advanced Guidance Module, and 20 turns of photographing.
>>
>>24482527
How much funding do they need?
>>
>>24482537
It's researched, purchased, and upgraded as a mass 3 part. Although it takes up no space once built.
>>
>>24482543
Since invention of a new part is 3xMass, it will cost 9RP to research.
We'll do that next turn when the budget becomes available.
>>
You don't have much time to look over the plans however, as you have to get ready for the interview. Miss Kenaway will be launching a second Reflector Balloon into orbit for this.
>>
Rolled 4, 10 - 2 = 12

>>24482693
>>
Rolled 10, 7 - 2 = 15

>>24482707
>>
Unfortunately the second stage does not ignite properly, and the second Balloon crashes into the gulf. The conference will only be able to last for 10-15 minutes at most.

Any instructions for Cobham before the transmissions begin?
>>
>>24482775
She knows enough not to embarrass us.
We shall instruct that she avoid being baited into revealing too much of our future plans.
Not for any real need for secrecy, but because we do not have a firm time table, and would not wish to promise what we cannot deliver.
>>
>>24482775

Be kind, no bad talking Sir Harker on the air and don't say a word about how silly the training was. no need to have future recruits laughing at our completely preplanned selection process.
>>
>>24482834
The radio officer counts down and hands you the Mic. "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! This is Miiiiister Raaaaadio! Together with her highness Princess Princess Lydia Tannhäuser, live from Tannhauser island, and First Daughter Miss Jakisan Kenaway, Live from Merika!
Goood morning ladies and gentlemen, And good morning to you ladies. although I understand it's actually noon for You Your highness. How are you two doing today?"
>>
>>24482919
"Quite well, Mr. Radio. We must congratulate Miss Kenaway and the Suthern Space Council for their elegant solution to intercontinental radio transmission. Rest assured that Midland shall not fall behind when it comes to radio technology."

Replace Suthern Space Council with the name of Suthland's space program.
>>
>>24482919

"Doing wonderful here in the islands so far, Typhoon season will be here soon after the summer solstice but we are well prepared for them."

"A congratulations to our neighbors that have allowed us to even speak like this."
>>
>>24482968
(that is the name of there space program, it's a collective effort between all of the major city states)

Kenaway "Thank you Your highness, and I still have a lot of work to do to catch up with you, I just lost another rocket last night, Still having trouble with that upper stage. I'm so glad your rockets have gotten safe enough to Cary people, I could imagine having somebody ride the Anga."

Radio "Yes, this really is something, and too bad about that second rocket. I understand this interview is going to have to be cut short because of it? Is that right?"
>>
>>24483014
"Unfortunately, yes, without the second relay this conference will not be as long as it could be.
"However, you should not sell yourself or your countrymen short, Ms. Kenaway. Midland did have a head start, after all. We shan't be resting on our laurels with you fast catching up."
>>
>>24483053
Radio: "Well well have to make the best of the short time we have then, Is our hero, Dame Cobham here with you?"

Cobham: "Y-yes! Mister Radio! I'm here, Oh dear I'm not sure where to start. I'm a big fan and always wanted to be on your show, I didn't think I'd go into space first though!"
>>
>>24483135
Radio: "It's always nice to hear from a fan, especially when they make history. So Your highness, what made you pick Cobham here over all the other possible candidates? I'm sure there were lots."
>>
>>24483419
"Oh yes, there were many other candidates. All went through a series of tests designed to gauge their mental and physical limits. All performed well, of course, however Dame Cobham simply succeeded in performing the best out of the gathered champions."
>>
>>24483419

"We had a series of grueling test that the prospective void knights had to pass, Dame Cobham and Sir Harker where tied up to the end. Dame Cobham won in a duel the right to ascend to space as the first void knight."
>>
>>24483493
Radio: "So, knights of the void, Tell me more about your new order? Is this just for Midland's Astro-Knights, or does it apply to anybody who goes into space?"
>>
>>24483672
"The Order of the Void is a Midland institution, awarded to those enter the Void. It is meant primarily for Midland, however, we would award a knighthood in the Order for any who touch the emptiness of space."

I think that's what we were going for, right?
>>
>>24483775
Kenaway "I suppose I'll have to see about getting my own star scouts into orbit then."

Radio: "So, What can you ladies tell the folks back home about your future plans? Surely you must have something big in the works."
>>
>>24483899
"The Royal Rocketry Corps is working upon mapping the world from orbit, in order to provide better navigational maps. We also have in development a radio beacon system, to assist in oceanic and aeronautical navigation."
>>
>>24483899
Our two largest goals are to put up permanent artificial satelites, and then, the moon.
>>
Kenaway. "I intend to complete my network of reflector satellites, And I did agree to race Lydia to the moon. So our plans are aligned. I hope we can work together in the future."

Radio: "Well it looks like we are running out of time, Do either of you have anything else to say before we go?"
>>
>>24484145
"May Midland and Suthland continue our explorations into the uncharted Void, so that our discoveries may enrich all mankind."
>>
>>24484145

"You're on."
>>
"And there you have it folks. This is Mister Radio, Signing off with Her Highness, Princess Lydia Tannhäuser, First Daughter Jakisan Kenaway, and Dame Kateryn Cobham."

The broadcasting light turns off...
>>
>>24484311

yay i didnt iss it!
>>
Your intercontinental radio broadcast is now over. Cobham looks slightly embarrassed. "I'm so sorry your highness, I wanted to say something historical, but I got stage fright."
>>
>>24484528

Phew! That went better than expected.

We can use the inability t launch due to the typhoon season in order to work on power sources; we'l need those regardless.

So, is Prince Orion more interested in Mrs. Cobham now? ^^
>>
>>24484722

"At least nobody can say it was just staged platitudes!"
>>
>>24483899
>Star scouts
Ha, Void Knights is a much cooler term.

Midland 2
Suthland 0

On a separate note, I think that the Order of the Void shouldn't just be some fancy title; our Void Knights should be awarded lands for their dedication and service to the Empire. Maybe we should speak to father about this...
>>
>>24484734

If we can afford it.... which is a big if. The prestige of being an early space traveler should be enough for a while, hopefully.

Sharing our upper stage design with Jakisan would be too much of a security risk, or is it thinkable?
>>
>>24484755
With what our Mother said about the Huns having agents and supporters in some of Suthland's city-states, I think it's too dangerous.
>>
>>24484763
I'd second this. We are friendly with the Suthlanders, but we shouldn't go out of our way to actively help them; at least not at this point in time.
>>
>>24484734
There is a finite amount of land to be parceled out. Granting land is not something to do lightly.

>>24484727
"You want me to build a radio-reactive pile in the middle of a storm? I'm sorry that's Just too risky."

As for Prince Orion. He's more interested in being the next to go into space than in Cobham herself.
>>
>>24484793
Hmm...maybe some land just for Cobham then.

If we built an underground bunker complex, then Minerva could work on radio-reactive technology safely, could she not?
>>
>>24484769

Good point. On that note, is there any intel about what the Huns might be doing? Surely we have access to something more in depth than the daily news.

>>24484793

We were hoping to use the launch hiatus to do some basic research, it'd be easier than testing solar panels...

While the chinchilla powerplant idea was silly, we wonder if adding a hand crank to our capsule designs is a good idea, if it's not too heavy.

Prince Orion is slotted third IIRC?
>>
>>24484825
Construction during storm season is risky.

>>24484827
A hand crank would be redundant. The Pathfinder uses a combination of fuel cells and batteries. The Pilot will run out of air before the power runs out.
>>
>>24484881
Most of these plans appear to be ill-considered and impractical.

Ask Colonel Smith if the new computational device could be scaled up, to do ballistic and trajectory calculations. Could our computers then be shifted from manually doing the calculations, to feeding and programming this machine with data.

That's gotta make a lot of clicking and whirring. Wonder if there are patterns to feed into it that create pleasing music...

Something born of a storm needs a fitting name. How about Briareos?
>>
It's time for bed now. See you tomorrow.
>>
>>24485114

thank you1
>>

Good night.
