Take two, folks. The last attempt fell apart due to personal issues.

That said, let's get ready to rock! It's time once more, for Civilization Quest; the longest-running quest currently on /tg/ (by my reckoning).

You are the Long Fangs tribe, a primitive tribe of peoples on the cusp of the Bronze Age. With the assistance of your heroes and the guidance of your gods, it falls to you to guide your people through the ages, steering them through good times and bad, towards their eventual, far-off destiny. Do you think you are up to the task? Can you (to steal a phrase) build a civilization to stand the test of time?

Clackity!
>>
so, as somebody coming to this TOTALLY NEW, how far into the stone age are you?
>>
>>24420675
We are currently in the copper age. We have knowledge on how to work copper. We know what it takes to make bronze, but have yet to find a source of tin for it.
Most of our neighbours already know how to make bronze, so we may be a bit behind in that respect.

That's just the very brief overview.
>>
>>24420675
We've gone past the stone age really.

We know animal husbandry, have agriculture, can forge copper (learning how to bronze), have a writing system, a calendar, and are currently figuring out masonry.

Let us begin

>>
>>24421367
But what is more pressing? Groza's revelation or Khoine's?
>>
>>24421388
Im gonna go with Koine on this one since the warriors seem to have not been of use in a while.
>>
>>24421454
I'm going with Ref for the same reason. Maybe they'll finally show their worth to the tribe.

>>24421388
Groza's revelation isn't going anywhere, Khoine we only have the Winter to deal with.
>>
>>24421524
Guess that's a point.
>>
>>24421488
If I remember correctly there was a lot of commotion about the entire thing including Khoinemass and the use of the priesthood for the improvement of foreign relations.

Could be mistaking though.
>>
>>24421524
It's not like Khoine disappears when it isn't the winter. She can still be talked to through her priest.
>>
>>24421623
She has a priest?
>>
>>24420872
Derrik and Rina guide the hunters and fishers respectively, but hunting and fishing in winter always comes with a risk. Two of the village are lost to the frost, snow and darkness, one vanishing into the forest, never to be seen again and one slipping from his raft in the cold. By the time he is dragged from the river, it is tragically too late.

While the wise ones STILL try to batter their heads against the problem of working stone into a reasonable building material (an EXTRA-ORDINARILY slow process, with no sustainable and suitable tools to use), the rest of the village is eager to hear from Groza's devouts, all about their adventures in the wider world.

As it turns out, the devouts are quite eager to boast of their journey and more importantly, the battles they fought. It seems those of their number that they lost were not simply victims of the journey, but fell in battle against far-flung peoples. Though the devouts did not exactly make any maps of their journey, it seems they mostly ventured out, over the plains to the south and west of the village; the same direction the vanished Lion tribe came from. During their wanderings, they chose to honour Groza by starting a fight with pretty much anyone they came across. Nomads, villagers, farmers... The plunder of food, tools and weapons were what allowed them to survive, before their return to the village.
>>
>>24422391
Plunder?

Well... did they bring anything cool back?
>>
>>24422391
Wow. Our warriors sound like a bunch of barbaric dicks.
>>
>>24422344
She does. One priestess and two trainee acolytes.

>As a friendly reminder, the village hasn't actually BUILT the granary yet; you just have the tech for it.

>The time for war has come again, but the elite of the Fang squad have not forgotten their roots. Even now, as the rest of their tribe mates made preparations for war, millions of miles away, they were in enemy territory. They have crossed the enormous distance in only days, never stopping to rest.

Even as he thought this, his brothers in arms were slitting the throats of enemy officers, setting critical supplies aflame, and sabotaging the gate mechanism.

He has located his target. After easily scaling the wall a normal man would not consider climbing, he found himself face to face with four guards. Groza guided his sword, Hrunti made him agile - the years of training and experience did their part too.

He did take a mild cut, but they have all trained with Chani, and the wound was sealed tight.

In hours, the enemy lost it's king, it's generals, and the supplies which made it likely to hold an extended siege were but a pile of ash.

The Fang squad left the city without a single casualty. They would now hunt enemy scouts, so the Long Fang army could arrive without warning.

Good lord, it's you! Good to see you back and good piece... If not for the face that it's been established (I think) that only priests can only channel the powers of only one god. At least as far as any of you know... A for effort though!

>>24423026
Realising they're getting no-where fast, the Wise Ones finally decide that they really need better tools, before trying to work stone in any meaningful way. To this end, it is a small logical leap to using bronze to create more efficient tools. The trick comes, however, in fashioning said tools. Thankfully, the new forge proves up to the task of holding enough heat to soften bronze and render it workable and by the turn of the moon, the tribe finally has command of basic bronzeworking, though the secret of where the metal might be found or how it might be made eludes them.

Realising the need for a better food store, the tribe starts to once again clear timber from the forest, in preparation for constructing a granary. The second major component of the granary is, of course, the clay required for the hard-baked, pottery walls; another resource the tribe has been steadily chewing through, as pots and containers need to be replaced.

Sadly, the devouts did not return with a great deal in the way of plunder. Most of they targets were not particularly wealthy, in food, tools, or particularly weapons, which were the only things they thought worth taking.

Khoine's priestess attempts to commune with her goddess, but after some time in meditation, she breaks down into tears, even as a dense, if not fierce snowstorm envelops the village. After several hours, the priestess is finally consoled enough to speak. "It's... Horrible," she sobs, clutching a fur blanket about her shoulders, "Khoine... Her grief is... So terrible. Svell has not returned. He never will. Whatever that... Monster did to him, it killed him. Forever. The power of the spirit of frost is still seeking a new host. Khoine's brother is dead, forever."

The priestess of Chani stressed that she, and only she, could channel Chani's healing power. She did not know the *will* of the disciples. They sat there motionless, for days, focusing on what they have learned, *willing* it into reality.

Weeks later, they emerged, each one of them with a number of scars on each of their wrists, all sealed, like the skin was deeply cut, but years ago. Yet these marks were not there when their training begun earlier this month.

Rina and Derrik, after a brief rest the previous moon, are again drafted in to help with the hunt and fishing. Thankfully, the spring weather proves milder and there are no losses this time. With the two heroes's assistance, the hunt and fishing goes well and provides for the villagers for some time to come.

The rest of the moon is spent using rafts to ferry clay downstream from the clay banks further up the river. It is messy, heavy, exhausting work that no-one likes doing, but by the time it is done, the village has a substantial supply of clay, most of which immediately goes on starting construction of the granary. Though it is not completed this moon, the work is about half-done by the time the moon turns.
